Scientific journal on mining, titled „Mining Science” has been issued since 1978 at the Faculty of Geoengineering Mining and Geology, the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. In order to improve the quality and visibility of the journal on the world stage, numerous changes have been introduced. Implementation of the strategy for the journal development began with change to its title, from „Prace Naukowe Instytutu Górnictwa Politechniki Wrocławskiej. Górnictwo i Geologia” [Research Papers of Institute of Mining of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Mining and Geology] (ISSN 0370-0798) into „Mining Science” (ISSN 2300-9586). Journal’s visibility of the internet, built in order to increase the chance to quote, was achieved by signing multiple contracts or filing to key global abstract databases. Also, Editorial System was implemented, which has improved the entire editing, editorial and reviewing process, as well as operation of the journal’s homepage.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is the largest and authoritative international source of information about open journals. Polish open access journals are indexed there from the very beginning of DOAJ. In 2015, the catalog's editorial board prepared new guidelines for indexing journals. Consequence of this move was preparation of the new application and reapplication form. The article gives the review for the changes in all application forms that occurred since the beginning of DOAJ. It also contains most important guidelines for journals publishers and editorial boards who are applying to DOAJ according to new rules. Part of the paper is also devoted to good practices related to the openness of journals and scientific publications accepted in the DOAJ.

The platforms of scientific journals and the bibliographic databases are essential tools for each researcher. They document the development of scientific research, and – in the context of the formal parametric and evaluation requirements – guarantee the inclusion of individual publications in the scientific communication system. Although the two types of tools have similar tasks, they also have some differences (in the field of creating, functionality, co-operation with digital repositories, accessibility for the potential users). Author tried to indicate the fields and tendencies of both sources mutual permeability, as well as the differences between them.

Journal publishers increasingly decide to share their resources in open access. They do this by using a web page journal, a digital library, a repository, or put articles in databases. Databases are one of the most important channels of access to the full text of the journals gathered there. The aim of the study will be to check the availability of full texts in Polish databases and to draw attention to the role that they play in the dissemination of research achievements.

The Bibliography of Polish Ethnography (BEP) has been online since 2007 and since that year has changed several times. At the technical level, the software was changed, which effected on the way how the editors work. At the level of functioning, the functionality of the database has been expanded by adding redirects from the database directly to the texts, if they are available in the public domain. The members of the editorial team also began to incorporate BEP into the didactic process. The paper presents the lessons learned from the work on modified database and the experience gained during didactics using BEP.

The aim of the article is to present a multi-annual project co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education within the grant for the dissemination of science called „Extension of the PEDAGOG database”. This database was presented in relation to the EDUKACJA database and the generally accepted assessment criteria for evaluation of abstracts and bibliographical databases.

Polish Literary Bibliography (PBL) is the largest bibliography of the humanities in Poland. It covers literature, theatre and Polish film. At the beginning it was printed – there were 45 volumes published in print. In 1998 PBL was transformed into a database. Now, the new version of a database is being created. One of the main goals of a new database is to better depict the relations between entities registered by PLB.

Social marketing of the database is a fairly new phenomenon in the scientific community. Does the product, that is bibliographical BazTech database, need community building around itself, the bond and permanent communication? The author of the following article is trying to answer these questions, as well as describing promotional activies of the BazTech’s makers. She is also describing the stages of the base promotion programme’s implementation via social networking site Facebook (planning posts in terms of the plot, form and frequency) and through traditional promotion tools, i.e. poster or other graphic forms.

Phenomena incident to social communication are currently undergoing metamorphoses, which may be putting in a troublesome situation practitioners of professions, responsible for cuirculation of information or organization of knowledge. In post-normal science (we suggest a Polish term: nauka aparadygmatyczna) traditional borderlines between the body of scientific knowledge and its applications and implementations are fading away, and contradictions between uncertain facts, values in dispute, stakes high and decisions urgent (S. Funtowicz, J. Ravetz, 1993) seem indelible. This is why we are looking for new taxonomies defining subject, scope and method of scientific research and alternative methods of quantitative and qualitative insights into scientific text. It seems it might be worthwhile to depart here from long-accepted methods based on disciplinary structure of science and on predicted reception of a work. We believe that in the future bibliography and science policy will detect quality and importance of a work based on its structure and vocabulary, and we look around to locate such analyses, sprouting already in different areas of theory and practice, for example through the development of artificial intelligence research.

The aim of the BazEkon database is to satisfy the information needs for users in terms of the scientific literature in the field of economic sciences and related subjects promote in this regard the achievements of Polish scientific forethought. The databases recipients are mainly students, graduate students, PhD’s and all scientific staff of Polish universities and research and development institutes. Nevertheless, due to the open access to the variety of subjects covered by the database, the number of costumers is constantly growing. The database can also be a valuable source of information for employees of different industries and businesses. In addition BazEkon may assist publishers to upload publishing data to governmental system calls POL-index, simultaneously the database can be a form of advertising itself due to the open access and indexing via Google Scholar, Google. Finally, new available solutions obtainable in the database will be presented.

Together with technological development, subject bibliographies have evolved - from the classic printed bibliographic form through bibliographic and abstracts’ databases to full-text databases. The organization work on bibliographies and their informational capabilities have also changed. The basic role of subject bibliography is to document writings on a specific knowledge discipline. Based on literature and databases’ analysis, we tried to answer following questions: What is the role of subject bibliography towards science? Why is subject bibliography important? What are the problems of sub-ject bibliography nowadays? What is the subject bibliography’s competition? Can internet content re-place subject databases? What types of subject bibliographies do users expect? What are the expec-tations for the subject bibliography in the future?

The directions of development of the AGRO database in the years 2009-2015 and the following are discussed. New elements of the database introduced by the implementation of two EU projects were presented and the related qualitative and quantitative development of the base, above all the increase in chronological metadata. The recipients of the database were defined and the information and search preferences of their users were determined based on surveys. The types of learning resources included in the AGRO database are characterized. The statistics on database usage are illustrated.

The speech presents plans for the development of the Polish Medical Bibliography for the years 2017–2018. All publications included in the periodical appearing in PBL will be added to the database and the number of indexed journals will also be increased in the database, while the descriptor language development will be narrowed down only to the articles of Polish authors. Other documents will only be entered with keywords. Changes will also include the expansion and refinement of the search engine with new capabilities such as search history, keyword search, multiple content indicators, or multiple qualifiers. In addition, a full search engine will be launched to the prePBL database, which provides records immediately after entering, even before the final revision. Implementing the above aims requires a complete modernization of the production database.

Article stresses that digitization, digitalization and its derivatives, such as electronic delivery service, full-search, open access, open data and Web 2.0 make it rethink meaning and contemporary tasks of bibliography as a link in the cycle of creating, circulating and applying knowledge.

The paper describes the structure and contents of the Arianta–Polish Scientific and Professional Electronic Journals database created by Aneta Drabek and Arkadiusz Pulikowski. It provides statistics on Polish journals and the changes that have been introduced in connection with the journal evaluation done by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The paper also presents the problem of access to information on the indexing of periodicals in databases and deals with Ministry scoring.
