Given a quaternionic form G of a p-adic classical group (p odd) we classify all cuspidal irreducible representations of G with coefficients in an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from p. We prove two theorems: At first: Every irreducible cuspidal representation of G is induced from a cuspidal type, i.e. from a certain irreducible representation of a compact open subgroup of G , constructed from a β -extension and a cuspidal representation of a finite group. Bacterial biofilm formation has been implicated in the high incidence of persistent otorrhoea after tympanostomy tube insertion. The aim of the study was to investigate whether biofilm formation on tympanostomy tubes depends on the genetic profile of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. Capacity of biofilm formation on fluoroplastic tympanostomy tubes (TTs) was tested on 30 MRSA strains. Identification and methicillin resistance were confirmed by PCR for nuc and mecA genes. Strains were genotypically characterised (SCC mec, agr and spa typing). Biofilm formation was tested in microtiter plate and on TTs. Tested MRSA strains were classified into SCC mec type I (36.7 %), III (23.3 %), IV (26.7 %) and V (13.3 %), agr type I (50 %), II (36.7 %) and III (13.3 %), and 5 clonal complexes (CCs). All tested MRSA strains showed ability to form biofilm on microtiter plate. Capacity of biofilm formation on TTs was as following: 13.3 % of strains belonged to the category of no biofilm producers, 50 % to the category of weak biofilm producers and 36.7 % to moderate biofilm producers. There was a statistically significant difference between CC, SCC mec and agr types and the category of biofilm production on TTs tubes ( p < 0.001): CC5, SCC mecI type and agrII type with a moderate amount of biofilm, and CC8 and agrI type with a low amount of biofilm. Biofilm formation by MRSA on TTs is highly dependent on genetic characteristics of the strains. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate biofilm formation on silicone tubes by genetically diverse methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. Methods: Capacity of biofilm formation on dacryocystorhinostomy silicone tubes was tested on 30 MRSA strains. Identification and methicillin resistance were confirmed by PCR for nuc and mecA genes. Strains were genotypically characterised (SCC mec, agr and spa typing). Biofilm formation was tested in microtiter plate and on silicone tubes. Results: Tested MRSA strains were classified into SCC mec type I (33.3 %), II (3.3 %), III (20.0 %), IV (26.7 %) and V (16.7 %), agr type I (56.7 %), II (36.7 %) and III (6.6 %), and eight spa clonal complexes (CCs). All tested MRSA strains showed ability to form biofilm on microtiter plate. Capacity of biofilm formation on silicone tubes was as follows: 33.3 % of strains belonged to the category of low biofilm producers, and 66.7 % to moderate biofilm producers. There was statistically significant correlation between spa CC and the category of biofilm production on silicone tubes ( p = 0.01): CC5 and CC45 with moderate amount of biofilm, and CC8 with low amount of biofilm. A moderate amount of biofilm formed on silicone tubes correlated with agr type II MRSA strains ( p = 0.008). Conclusions: Biofilm formation by MRSA on silicone tubes is highly dependent on genetic characteristics of the strains. Therefore, MRSA genotyping may aid the determination of the possibility of biofilm-related ocular device infections. In a weak acidic medium, the reaction of some aminoglycoside antibiotics (AGs) such as kanamycin sulfate (KANA), gentamycin sulfate (GEN), and tobramycin sulfate (TOB) with acid thiazolyl bisazo dye Titan Yellow (TY) can result in the fading of TY. The maximum fading wavelength was located at 409 nm. The molar absorptivities (ɛ/×104 1 mol−1 cm−1) were 2.0, 1.5 and 2.5 for KANA, GEN and TOB, respectively. The spectral characteristics, effect factors, optimum conditions of the reaction and the influence of foreign substances were also investigated. The procedure is easy and fast. This method has high sensitivity and can be applied to the determination of commercial aminoglycoside antibiotics and serum samples with satisfactory results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pore formation of alamethicin has been studied by the analysis of steadystate fluctuations of single-pore conductances. An aggregation model is proposed where transitions to the next higher or lower pore state occur by uptake or release of one monomer. It is assumed that alamethicin forms an elongated loop in the bilayer. The main voltage-dependent step is the insertion of this monomer into the membrane after complexation with a cation. This mechanism is equivalent to dipole orientation in an electric field. Pore formation is restricted by the energy required to enlarge the channel in the membrane. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Problems connected with the structural aspects of dynamics are addressed in the context of the algebraic approach to generally convariant quantum field theory. It is argued that the dynamical structure of observables in the generally convariant context becomes fundamentally state dependent. This makes it necessary to relate the entire dynamics to state-dependent automorphisms of the algebra of observables. The relevant states are highly correlated on large scales, so that we may not have exact accuracy for the identification of their observables in terms of a (quasi) local net of algebras. This feature is controlled by a scale fluctuation of the total observables around a point which is used to obtain a description of a one-parameter group of state-dependent automorphisms in terms of the modular group. In general, it is not clear whether the action of the latter group has a dynamical interpretation. We comment on a duality principle which could provide a straightforward means to obtain an “asymptotic” interpretation of the modular group on small scales. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
