The evaluation of tumor follow-up according to RECIST 1.1 has become essential in clinical practice given its role in therapeutic decision making. At the same time, radiologists are facing an increase in activity while facing a shortage. Radiographic technologists could contribute to the follow-up of these measures, but no studies have evaluated their ability to perform them. Ninety breast cancer patients were performed three CT follow-ups between September 2017 and August 2021. 270 follow-up treatment CT scans were analyzed including 445 target lesions. The rate of agreement of classifications RECIST 1.1 between five technologists and radiologists yielded moderate (k value between 0.47 and 0.52) and substantial (k value = 0.62 and k = 0.67) agreement values. 112 CT were classified as progressive disease (PD) by the radiologists, and 414 new lesions were identified. The analysis showed a percentage of strict agreement of progressive disease classification between reader-technologists and radiologists ranging from substantial to almost perfect agreement (range 73–97%). Analysis of intra-observer agreement was strong at almost perfect (k > 0.78) for 3 technologists. These results are encouraging regarding the ability of selected technologists to perform measurements according to RECIST 1.1 criteria by CT scan with good identification of disease progression. Colleges and Universities have a more diverse student body than ever before—this includes a growing number of students with disabilities. Many of these students are attracted to the flexibility and anonymity of learning online. However, research suggests that students with disabilities often face barriers learning online. Given this, we set out to investigate how faculty and educational technologists are prepared to design accessible online courses and instructional materials. We surveyed 95 educational technologists, directors, and disability access personnel in this exploratory study. In the following paper, we report the results of our inquiry into these professionals' perspectives on faculty and educational technologists' knowledge and skills in creating accessible courses and instructional materials. A first opportunity lies in the need for ongoing innovation in the characterisation of the biological behaviour for treatment options, prognosis and therapy prediction by using diagnostic molecular imaging. Clinical technologists are a full-fledged member of the multidisciplinary clinical team for diagnosis and/or therapy, with a specific accent on their expertise in clinical technical execution of the nuclear medicine procedures, and to transform processes more efficiently within the department. The clinical technologist expands together with the nuclear medicine physician and medical physicist, the new field of personalised radionuclide therapy [[4]]. Scoring sleep stages from biological signals is an essential but labor-intensive inspection for sleep diagnosis. The existing automated scoring methods have achieved high accuracy but are not widely applied in clinical practice. In our understanding, the existing methods have failed to establish the trust of sleep experts (e.g., physicians and clinical technologists) due to a lack of ability to explain the evidences/clues for scoring. In this study, we developed a deep-learning-based scoring model with a reasoning mechanism called class activation mapping (CAM) to solve this problem. This mechanism explicitly shows which portions of the signals support our model's sleep stage decision, and we verified that these portions overlap with the "characteristic waves," which are evidences/clues used in the manual scoring process. In exchange for the acquisition of explainability, employing CAM makes it difficult to follow some scoring rules. Although we concerned the negative effect of CAM on the scoring accuracy, we have found that the impact is limited. The evaluation experiment shows that the proposed model achieved a scoring accuracy of 86.9 % . It is superior to those of some existing methods and the inter-rater reliability among the sleep experts. Amid accelerating threats to species and ecosystems, technology advancements to monitor, protect, and conserve biodiversity have taken on increased importance. While most innovations stem from adaptation of off-the-shelf devices, these tools can fail to meet the specialized needs of conservation and research or lack the support to scale beyond a single site. Despite calls from the conservation community for its importance, a shift to bottom-up innovation driven by conservation professionals remains limited. We surveyed practitioners, academic researchers, and technologists to understand the factors contributing to or inhibiting engagement in the collaborative process of technology development and adoption for field use and identify emerging technology needs. High cost was the main barrier to technology use across occupations, while development of new technologies faced barriers of cost and partner communication. Automated processing of data streams was the largest emerging need, and respondents focused mainly on applications for individual-level monitoring and automated image processing. Cross-discipline collaborations and expanded funding networks that encourage cyclical development and continued technical support are needed to address current limitations and meet the growing need for conservation technologies. We aim to prospectively investigate, in a large and heterogeneous population, the electroencephalogram (EEG)-reading performances of EEG technologists. A total of 8 EEG technologists and 5 certified neurophysiologists independently analyzed 20-min EEG recordings. Interrater agreement (IRA) for predefined EEG pattern identification between EEG technologists and neurophysiologits was assessed using percentage of agreement (PA) and Gwet-AC1. Among 1528 EEG recordings, the PA [95% confidence interval] and interrater agreement (IRA, AC1) values were as follows: status epilepticus (SE) and seizures, 97% [96–98%], AC1 kappa = 0.97; interictal epileptiform discharges, 78% [76–80%], AC1 = 0.63; and conclusion dichotomized as "normal" versus "pathological", 83.6% [82–86%], AC1 = 0.71. EEG technologists identified SE and seizures with 99% [98–99%] negative predictive value, whereas the positive predictive values (PPVs) were 48% [34–62%] and 35% [20–53%], respectively. The PPV for normal EEGs was 72% [68–76%]. SE and seizure detection were impaired in poorly cooperating patients (SE and seizures; p < 0.001), intubated and older patients (SE; p < 0.001), and confirmed epilepsy patients (seizures; p = 0.004). EEG technologists identified ictal features with few false negatives but high false positives, and identified normal EEGs with good PPV. The absence of ictal features reported by EEG technologists can be reassuring; however, EEG traces should be reviewed by neurophysiologists before taking action. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: In the clinical workflow of radiology services, a critical connection exists between technologists and radiologists, yet there is often limited communication between this key link in the chain of patient imaging. Our aim was to quantify and detail the communication between CT technologists and radiologists in our tertiary oncology practice. Methods: Using the note function in our EMR, as standard operating procedure, CT technologists are instructed to place pertinent notes for the radiologist relevant to any portion of the patient encounter. Note categories pertain to quality and/or safety: patient limitations (e.g., patient unable to raise arm), protocol confirmation (e.g., rectal contrast given), critical finding communication, scan range considerations, IV issues, reduction in eGFR, oral contrast issues, allergy information, general feedback, equipment malfunction, and radiologist approval information. The percentage of notes within each category were recorded upon review of contiguous abdominal CT scans in July 2018 with the primary outcome measure of overall note volume compared to baseline in July 2016 after which time technologists were educated on the importance of notes and were requested to increase use of this tool. Notes were regularly reviewed to identify practice improvement opportunities. Results: Compared to baseline 2 years earlier (8860 CT scans, 812 technologist notes), there was a 32% increase in technologist note volume (10,948 CT scans, 1330 technologist notes), representing an increase of notes from 9.2% of exams to 12.1% of exams (p <.001) and there were 14 related practice improvements. Conclusion: After communicating the importance of CT technologist notes and requesting increased notation frequency, technologist note volume significantly increased and 14 specific case examples of related practice improvement demonstrate the electronic medical record note function to be a robust tool in the management of patient imaging. Objective: To assess the use of a volumetric image display simulation tool (VDST) for the evaluation of applied radiological neuroanatomy knowledge and spatial understanding of radiotherapy technologist (RTT) undergraduates. Methods: Ninety-two third-year RTT students from three French RTT schools took an examination using software that allows visualization of multiple volumetric image series. To serve as a reference, 77 first- and second-year undergraduates, as well as ten senior neuroradiologists, took the same examination. The test included 13 very-short-answer questions (VSAQ) and 21 exercises in which examinees positioned markers onto preloaded brain MR images from a healthy volunteer. The response time was limited. Each correct answer scored 100 points, with a maximum possible test score of 3,400 (VSAQ = 1,300; marker exercise = 2,100). Answers were marked automatically for the marker positioning exercise and semi-automatically for the VSAQs against prerecorded expected answers. Results: Overall, the mean test score was 1,787 (150–3,300) and the standard deviation was 781. Scores were highly significantly different between all evaluated groups (p < 0.001). The interoperator reproducibility was 0.90. All the evaluated groups could be discriminated by VSAQ, marker, and overall total scores independently (p ≤ 0.0001 to 0.001). The test was able to discriminate between the three schools either by VSAQ scores (p < 0.001 to 0.02) or by overall total score (p < 0.001 to 0.05). Conclusion: This software is a high-quality evaluation tool for the assessment of radiological neuroanatomy knowledge and spatial understanding in RTT undergraduates. Purpose: To evaluate the performance of trained technologists vis-à-vis radiologists for volumetric pancreas segmentation and to assess the impact of supplementary training on their performance. Methods: In this IRB-approved study, 22 technologists were trained in pancreas segmentation on portal venous phase CT through radiologist-led interactive videoconferencing sessions based on an image-rich curriculum. Technologists segmented pancreas in 188 CTs using freehand tools on custom image-viewing software. Subsequent supplementary training included multimedia videos focused on common errors, which were followed by second batch of 159 segmentations. Two radiologists reviewed all cases and corrected inaccurate segmentations. Technologists' segmentations were compared against radiologists' segmentations using Dice-Sorenson coefficient (DSC), Jaccard coefficient (JC), and Bland–Altman analysis. Results: Corrections were made in 71 (38%) cases from first batch [26 (37%) oversegmentations and 45 (63%) undersegmentations] and in 77 (48%) cases from second batch [12 (16%) oversegmentations and 65 (84%) undersegmentations]. DSC, JC, false positive (FP), and false negative (FN) [mean (SD)] in first versus second batches were 0.63 (0.15) versus 0.63 (0.16), 0.48 (0.15) versus 0.48 (0.15), 0.29 (0.21) versus 0.21 (0.10), and 0.36 (0.20) versus 0.43 (0.19), respectively. Differences were not significant (p > 0.05). However, range of mean pancreatic volume difference reduced in the second batch [− 2.74 cc (min − 92.96 cc, max 87.47 cc) versus − 23.57 cc (min − 77.32, max 30.19)]. Conclusion: Trained technologists could perform volumetric pancreas segmentation with reasonable accuracy despite its complexity. Supplementary training further reduced range of volume difference in segmentations. Background: During COVID-19 lockdown, non-urgent medical procedures were suspended. Grade of urgency of electroencephalography (EEG) may vary according to the clinical indication, setting, and status of infection of SARS-CoV-2 virus. "Italian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology" (SINC), "Italian League Against Epilepsy" (LICE), and the "Italian Association of Neurophysiology Technologists" (AITN) aimed to provide clinical and technical recommendation for EEG indications and recording standards in this pandemic era. Methods: Presidents of SINC, LICE, and AITN endorsed three members per each society to formulate recommendations: classification of the degree of urgency of EEG clinical indications, management and behavior of physicians and neurophysiology technologists, hygiene and personal protection standards, and use of technical equipment. Results: Scientific societies endorsed a paper conveying the recommendation for EEG execution in accordance with clinical urgency, setting (inpatients/outpatients), status of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection (positive, negative and uncertain), and phase of governmental restrictions (phase 1 and 2). Briefly, in phase 1, EEG was recommended only for those acute/subacute neurological symptoms where EEG is necessary for diagnosis, prognosis, or therapy. Outpatient examinations should be avoided in phase 1, while they should be recommended in urgent cases in phase 2 when they could prevent an emergency room access. Reduction of staff contacts must be encouraged through rescheduling job shifts. The use of disposable electrodes and dedicated EEG devices for COVID-19-positive patients are recommended. Conclusions: During the different phases of COVID-19 pandemic, the EEG should be reserved for patients really benefiting from its execution in terms of diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and avoidance of emergency room access. Introduction: Preclinical imaging is still seen as a new field, and its recognition as a specific topic occurring only about 20 years ago. Nuclear medicine technologists (NMTs) and radiographers' skills covering technical, anatomical and clinical fields can be highly beneficial to preclinical imaging research centres: many tasks and knowledge are complementary between clinics and preclinical laboratories. Our goal is to reach a consensus on the required set of competencies needed to translate the work of NMTs and radiographers from the clinic to the preclinical laboratory, particularly in regard to multimodal imaging. Preclinical imaging environment: Currently, all imaging modalities used in clinical routine (ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET, SPECT, radiographs) are available, using specific architectures allowing for the spatial resolution and sensitivity needed for small rodents (which are the most commonly used species in research). Ideally, a preclinical laboratory should produce images/examinations at a high throughput in order to meet the statistical expectations of the studies (while respecting the 3R principles for animal research) and the care and welfare of each individual. To reach the quality and throughput expectations of such an organization, specific qualified professionals are needed to complete the scientific/research staff. Where NMTs and radiographers fit in: The increasing use of preclinical imaging requires professionals who can put imaging procedures into action, ensuring a significant success throughput. NMTs and radiographers have a variety of skills that work well within a preclinical laboratory, with the ability to perform the following tasks independently: animal preparation, positioning, monitoring and anaesthesia recovery, acquisition parameter programming, archiving and data processing, device quality controls, surface cleaning and disinfection, radioactive and biological waste management, radiation safety for users, use of hot lab equipment and auxiliary equipment, injected products and material management. In light of the current European Qualification Framework, a set of skills, knowledge and competencies were defined to cover the whole set of duties and tasks deliverable to an NMT or radiographer working in a preclinical laboratory. One of the key responsibilities of the NMT or radiographer is related to compliance on animal care and welfare when undertaking any animal procedures, including imaging. Conclusion: We believe that NMTs and radiographers' skills match perfectly with the requirements of a preclinical imaging lab, and that they could be considered a keystone of such an organization in the future. Background: After the success of PET/CT as a clinical diagnostic tool, the introduction of PET/MRI is a natural development aimed at further improving combined diagnostic imaging and reduced ionising radiation dose for half-body imaging. As with PET and CT, the combination of PET and MRI presents a series of issues that need to be addressed regarding workforce training and education. At present, there is a lack of agreement over the competencies, training requirements and educational pathways needed for PET/MRI operation. In the UK, following the establishment of the MR-PET imaging network, a task force was created to investigate the status of the workforce training, identify gaps and make recommendations regarding staff training. To do this, we ran a national survey on the status of the workforce training and the local practices across the UK's seven PET/MRI sites, reviewed the literature, and convened a panel of experts, to assess all the evidence and make recommendations regarding PET/MRI competencies and training of nuclear medicine technologists and radiographers. Results: There is limited literature available specifically on competencies and training for technologists and radiographers. The recommendations on the topic needed revisiting and adapting to the UK MR-PET network. The online survey confirmed the need for developing PET/MRI competencies and training pathways. Local organisational structures and practices were shared across the seven sites, based on models derived from experience outside the UK. The panel of experts agreed on the need for PET/MRI competencies and training strategies. Professional organisations started collaborative discussions with partners from both Nuclear Medicine and Radiography to set training priorities. Multidisciplinary collaboration and partnership were suggested as a key to a successful implementation of competencies and training. Conclusions: The report identified the need for establishing competencies for the PET/MRI workforce, particularly for technologists and radiographers. It also helped defining these competencies as well as identifying the demand for bespoke training and the development of local and national courses to be implemented to fulfil this new training need. The authors investigated educational technology multimedia competencies for professionals who work in higher education institutions. Similar studies have been proposed, but none of them have focused on competencies required in the context of higher education. An online survey adapting sixteen competency factors from a study conducted by Rizhaupt and Martin ( Educational Technology Research and Development 62(1), 13-33, ) was distributed to educational technologists to obtain their perceptions regarding the levels of importance of each of the competency factors. One hundred and forty educational technologists responded to the survey. The results of ordinal regression analysis showed that gender, years of experience, academic degree, and job titles significantly explained respondents' different opinions about the levels of importance of the sixteen competency factors. The Graft Processing subcommittee of the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation wrote this guideline to assist physicians and laboratory technologists with the setting up of a cell processing laboratory (CPL) to support a hematopoietic stem cell transplant program, thereby facilitating the start-up of a transplant program in a new location and improving patient access to transplantation worldwide. This guideline describes the minimal essential features of designing such a laboratory and provides a list of equipment and supply needs and staffing recommendations. It describes the typical scope of services that a CPL is expected to perform, including product testing services, and discusses the basic principles behind the most frequent procedures. Quality management (QM) principles specific to a CPL are also discussed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the overall performance of rapid antigen detection (RAD) in group A streptococcus (GAS) in Finland by using the results of external quality assurance (EQA) samples. We also compared the performance of laboratory professionals to that of nursing professionals. Around 22,800 EQA results among a total of 383 laboratories and physician’s offices were analysed. Vocational data on the personnel who carried out the tests were available for 10,088 EQA samples, 7,428 of which were tested by laboratory technicians and 2,531 by nursing staff. The best overall performance was found with GAS-negative samples: 99% of the reports were correct. In contrast, the overall performance was only 76% when the samples were weakly positive for GAS antigen. The laboratory technicians performed statistically significantly better than the nursing staff, with both strongly positive (correct results 98.9% vs. 95.1%, respectively; p<0.001) and weakly positive (79.3% vs. 65.3%, respectively; p<0.001) samples. With negative samples, no difference in performance between the laboratory and nursing staff was found (99.5% vs. 99.0%, respectively). The professional skills of the person performing the RAD test for GAS have a major impact on the sensitivity of the test. Based on the results of this study, we suggest that EQA-like artificial specimens could be used as a tool to improve and validate the quality of RAD testing in individual testing sites. From the perspectives of training and research’ models with concentrated parameters and models with distributed parameters represent two levels of simulation of the dynamics of the thermal state of blast furnaces. Using a hierarchical structure with a minimum of equations in the basic system ensures visibility — a prerequisite to success. The use of nonstandard numerical methods provides for stable calculations with a minimum number of steps in the subdivision and’ thus’ high speed in the calculation. To correspond to the Association for Educational Communication Technology (AECT) Code of Professional Ethics and the professional journal TechTrends’ ethics columns, this paper provides empirical data regarding ethical issues associated with the use of instructional technology in design and training situations. In-depth interviews of 20 professional technologists were conducted. The three most prominent ethical concerns reported were copyright, learner privacy, and accessibility. The results of this study also identified three ethical issues that have not been discussed extensively in the literature: diversity, conflicts of interest, and professionalism/confidence. In addition to identifying ethical issues, the findings of the study also contribute to the current literature through identifying coping strategies of ethical issues adopted by professional technologists. This paper reviews the recent work carried out in the field of modern high-energy materials (HEMs) with the emphasis on homoleptic polynitrogen compounds. A large volume of quantum-chemical investigations have predicted the possibility of existence of polynitrogen compounds not only as short-lived transient species but also in the form of isolable discrete molecules. Despite the theoretical speculations, only a few polynitrogen ions are known today in addition to well-entrenched Ndiscovered almost 100 year ago. Extraordinary potential of these green molecules to deliver high amounts of energy in comparison with today’s and tomorrow’s most powerful HEMs, namely, hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20) and octanitrocubane (ONC), has fuelled the imagination of propellant and explosive engineers and technologists. Research activities are in progress in many quantum-chemical schools to explore the possibility of other promising polynitrogen compounds. After the recent discovery of key synthons/building blocks Mg(N5)2, NSbF, NSbF11, N, NSnF6, and NSn(CF3)4, the wealth of polynitrogen compounds is just waiting to be harvested by the HEMs community. The article reports that charged aerosol particles have attracted the attention of scientists and technologists for already more than a century. Not to mention such remarkable phenomena like thunderstorms, linear and ball lightnings, formation of crystal-like structures in dusty plasma charged aerosols play considerable role in the dynamics of particle formation in the atmosphere. These circumstances have motivated the permanently growing interest in the studies of aerodisperse systems wherein the aerosol particles are suspended in plasma.

Over the space of a year, I have conducted user, task and context analyses as part of a larger project to develop a knowledge management (KM) system for the U.S. Navy. In this article, I share that experience as well as point out a few of the challenges that I encountered. The goal is to offer just one possible path that human performance (HP) technologists might take to meet the theoretical and practical challenges presented by knowledge management precepts and practices. Thinking about knowledge as a process and contemplating interventions at collective and organizational levels are not easy tasks, especially given our conventional roots. Fortunately, there are emerging perspectives that may greatly facilitate the HP technologist's venture into this arena. I suggest that we begin to use these and related theories to inform and improve development.

This article describes sustained efforts by the Professional Ethics Committee of the Association for Educational Communication and Technology (AECT) to upgrade the organization's Code. It describes some of the serious considerations involved and how, with group energy and persistence, a sensible revision has been achieved. It is demonstrable that AECT is leading the profession in the development of ethics for technologists and in the ethical use of technology. From an instructional point of view, not only has a Code been established but also a functioning set of illustrative scenarios to encourage argument and generalization. The conclusion centers on continuing to move forward by rethinking professional ethics for the 21st century.
