Abstract The current study examines how careless online behavior and personality traits are related to the detection of fake news. We tested the relationships among accurately distinguishing between fake and real news headlines, careless online behavioral tendencies, and the HEXACO and dark triad personality traits. Poorer discernment between fake and real news headlines was associated with greater careless behavior online (i.e., greater online disinhibition, greater risky online behavior, greater engagement with strangers online, and less suspicion of others’ intentions online), as well as lower Conscientiousness, Openness, and Honesty-Humility, and greater dark triad traits. Implications for the literature as well as potential interventions to reduce susceptibility to misinformation and fake news are discussed.

Abstract Infection with the intracellular bacterium Coxiella (C.) burnetii can cause chronic Q fever with severe complications and limited treatment options. Here, we identify the enzyme cis‐aconitate decarboxylase 1 (ACOD1 or IRG1) and its product itaconate as protective host immune pathway in Q fever. Infection of mice with C. burnetii induced expression of several anti‐microbial candidate genes, including Acod1. In macrophages, Acod1 was essential for restricting C. burnetii replication, while other antimicrobial pathways were dispensable. Intratracheal or intraperitoneal infection of Acod1−/− mice caused increased C. burnetii burden, weight loss and stronger inflammatory gene expression. Exogenously added itaconate restored pathogen control in Acod1−/− mouse macrophages and blocked replication in human macrophages. In axenic cultures, itaconate directly inhibited growth of C. burnetii. Finally, treatment of infected Acod1−/− mice with itaconate efficiently reduced the tissue pathogen load. Thus, ACOD1‐derived itaconate is a key factor in the macrophage‐mediated defense against C. burnetii and may be exploited for novel therapeutic approaches in chronic Q fever.

Astrocytes are increasingly appreciated to possess underestimated and important roles in modulating neuronal circuits. Astrocytes in striatum can regulate dopamine transmission by governing the extracellular tone of axonal neuromodulators, including GABA and adenosine. However, here we reveal that striatal astrocytes occupy a cell type-specific anatomical and functional relationship with cholinergic interneurons (ChIs), through which they rapidly excite ChIs and govern dopamine release via nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on subsecond timescales. We identify that ChI somata are in unexpectedly close proximity to astrocyte somata, in mouse and human, forming a "soma-to-soma" satellite-like configuration not typically observed for other striatal neurons. We find that transient depolarization of astrocytes in mouse striatum reversibly regulates ChI excitability by decreasing extracellular calcium. These findings reveal a privileged satellite astrocyte-interneuron interaction for striatal ChIs operating on subsecond timescales via regulation of extracellular calcium dynamics to shape downstream striatal circuit activity and dopamine signaling. Bitter taste receptors (TAS2Rs), a subfamily of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed orally and extraorally, elicit signaling in response to a large set of tastants. Among 25 functional TAS2Rs encoded in the human genome, TAS2R14 is the most promiscuous, and responds to hundreds of chemically diverse ligands. Here we present the cryo–electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structure of the human TAS2R14 in complex with its signaling partner gustducin, and bound to flufenamic acid (FFA), a clinically approved nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The structure reveals an unusual binding mode, where two copies of FFA are bound at distinct pockets: one at the canonical receptor site within the trans-membrane bundle, and the other in the intracellular facet, bridging the receptor with gustducin. Together with a pocket-specific BRET-based ligand binding assay, these results illuminate bitter taste signaling and provide tools for a site-targeted compound design. Background: The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) implemented the Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) program to fill staffing gaps in primary care (PC) clinics via telemedicine and maintain veterans' healthcare access. Objective: To evaluate PC wait times before and after CRH implementation. Design: Comparative interrupted time series analysis among a retrospective observational cohort of PC clinics who did and did not use CRH during pre-implementation (October 2018–September 2019) and post-implementation (October 2019–February 2020) periods. Participants: Clinics completing ≥10 CRH visits per month for 2 consecutive months and propensity matched control clinics. Main Measures: Two measures of patient access (i.e., established, and new patient wait times) and one measure of clinic capacity (i.e., third next available appointment) were assessed. Clinics using CRH were 1:1 propensity score matched across clinical and demographic characteristics. Comparative interrupted time series models used linear mixed effects regression with random clinic-level intercepts and triple interaction (i.e., CRH use, pre- vs. post-implementation, and time) for trend and point estimations. Key Results: PC clinics using CRH (N = 79) were matched to clinics not using CRH (N = 79). In the 12-month pre-implementation, third next available time increased in CRH clinics (0.16 days/month; 95% CI = [0.07, 0.25]), and decreased in the 5 months post-implementation (−0.58 days/month; 95% CI = [−0.90, −0.27]). Post-implementation third next available time also decreased in control clinics (−0.48 days/month; 95% CI = [−0.81, −0.17]). Comparative differences remained non-significant. There were no statistical differences in established or new patient wait times by CRH user status, CRH implementation, or over time. Conclusions: In a national VHA telemedicine program developed to provide gap coverage for PC clinics, no wait time differences were observed between clinics using and not using CRH services. This hub-and-spoke telemedicine service is an effective model to provide gap coverage while maintaining access. Further investigation of quality and long-term access remains necessary. Distinguishing periods of intermittent unrest from the run-up to eruption is a major challenge at volcanoes around the globe. Comparing multidisciplinary monitoring data with mineral chemistry that records the physical and spatio-temporal evolution of magmas fundamentally advances our ability to forecast eruptions. The recent eruption of Mauna Loa, Earth's largest active volcano, provides a unique opportunity to differentiate unrest from run-up and improve forecasting of future eruptions. After decades of intermittent seismic and geodetic activity over 38 years of repose, Mauna Loa began erupting on 27 November 2022. Here we present a multidisciplinary synthesis that tracks the spatio-temporal evolution of precursory activity by integrating mineral and melt chemistry, fluid inclusion barometry, numerical modeling of mineral zoning, syn-eruptive gas plume measurements, the distribution and frequency of earthquake hypocenters, seismic velocity changes, and ground deformation. These diverse data indicate that the eruption occurred following a 2-month period of sustained magma intrusion from depths of 3–5 km up to 1–2 km beneath the summit caldera, providing a new model of the plumbing system at this very high threat volcano. Careful correlation of both the geochemistry and instrumental monitoring data improves our ability to distinguish unrest from the run-up to eruption by providing deeper understanding of the both the monitoring data and the magmatic system—an approach that could be applied at other volcanic systems worldwide. Context: Satellite products of fractional vegetation cover are often used to manage rangelands. However, they frequently miss the details of heterogeneous landscapes. The use of unoccupied aerial systems (UAS) to produce high spatial resolution rangeland fractional cover maps could fill that gap at local scales. Objectives: We evaluated the capabilities of UAS imagery for mapping rangeland fractional vegetation cover in sagebrush steppe communities of the Northern Great Basin, USA. Methods: We applied segmentation and machine learning models for image classification, and established regression functions with field-measured herbaceous cover and multiple spectral indices to quantify herbaceous fraction in bare/herbaceous mixed polygons. Finally, we conducted a correlation analysis to compare UAS-derived rangeland fractional cover with satellite-derived products. Results: Overall classification accuracies for the UAS-derived rangeland fractional cover maps were high (89–98%). Modified Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index was the most important spectral index for predicting photosynthetic classes and including Brightness Index in a multiple index approach improved classification of shadows and bare ground. Regression models effectively estimated herbaceous fractions within bare/herbaceous mixed polygons with high accuracy (R2 = 0.71–0.88). UAS-derived rangeland fractional cover estimates captured within-site variability, while satellite-derived products did not, specifically for herbaceous and litter. Conclusions: This study demonstrated a workflow using UAS and intensive ground sampling for estimating rangeland fractional cover in sagebrush communities. We found a disagreement between UAS-derived and satellite-derived fractional cover products at two sagebrush communities in the Northern Great Basin. Purpose: We applied a previously established common T-score metric for patient-reported and performance-based physical function (PF), offering the unique opportunity to directly compare measurement type-specific patterns of associations with potential laboratory-based, psychosocial, sociodemographic, and health-related determinants in hemodialysis patients. Methods: We analyzed baseline data from the CONVINCE trial (N = 1,360), a multinational randomized controlled trial comparing high-flux hemodialysis with high-dose hemodiafiltration. To explore the associations of potential determinants with performance-based versus patient-reported PF, we conducted multiple linear regression (backward elimination with cross-validation and Lasso regression). We used standardized T-scores as estimated from the PROMIS PF short-form 4a (patient-reported PF) and the Physical Performance Test (performance-based PF) as dependent variables. Results: Performance-based and patient-reported PF were both significantly associated with a laboratory marker-based indicator of muscle mass (simplified creatinine index), although the effects were relatively small (partial f2 = 0.04). Age was negatively associated with PF; the effect size was larger for performance-based (partial f2 = 0.12) than for patient-reported PF (partial f2 = 0.08). Compared to performance-based PF, patient-reported PF showed a stronger association with self-reported health domains, particularly pain interference and fatigue. When using the individual difference between patient-reported and performance-based T-scores as outcome, we found that younger age and more fatigue were associated with lower patient-reported PF compared to performance-based PF (small effect size). Conclusion: Patient-reported and performance-based assessments were similarly associated with an objective marker of physical impairment in hemodialysis patients. Age and fatigue may result in discrepancies when comparing performance-based and patient-reported scores on the common PF scale. Power can be generated from radiative exchange between two bodies with different temperatures—from the radiative cooling of the Earth's surface into space, for example. Thermoradiative diodes are low-bandgap optoelectronic devices in which the occupancies of the valence and conduction bands are established through radiative exchange with the external environment. A warm diode viewing cold surroundings will spontaneously develop a reverse electrical bias, which, combined with the recombination current from the radiative imbalance, generates electrical power. Here we review the operating principles of the thermoradiative diode in both the radiative limit and in the presence of non-radiative processes. We discuss some present limitations and opportunities for improved performance together with potential applications such as night-sky power generation and waste-heat recovery. Background: Oral and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC and LSCC) and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) are common head and neck cancers (HNCs) typically treated surgically. Challenges in tumour delineation often lead to inadequate resection margins in OSCC and LSCC, and missed multifocality in PTC. Fluorescence imaging (FLI) using near-infrared tumour-targeting tracers may improve intraoperative identification of malignancy, facilitating precise excision. This study evaluates six potential FLI targets in OSCC, LSCC and PTC. Materials and methods: Immunohistochemical staining was performed on OSCC (n = 20), LSCC (n = 10) and PTC (n = 10), assessing CEA, c-Met, EpCAM, EGFR, integrin αvβ6 and VEGF-α. Expression was scored (0–12) using the total immunostaining score (TIS) system, and categorized into absent (TIS 0), low (TIS 1–5), moderate (TIS 6–8) or high (TIS 9–12). Results: Integrin αvβ6 showed significant overexpression in OSCC (TIS: 12; p < 0.001) and LSCC (TIS: 8; p = 0.002), with 80% of OSCC and 90% of LSCC exhibiting moderate-high expression. Similarly, EGFR expression was moderate-high in most OSCC (87.5%; TIS: 8) and universally high in LSCC (100%; TIS: 12). In PTC, EGFR and VEGF-α expressions were low-moderate, but significantly higher than in healthy tissue (TIS: 6; p < 0.006). Conclusion: This study highlights integrin αvβ6 and EGFR as viable FLI targets in OSCC and LSCC, especially integrin αvβ6 for tumour margin delineation. In PTC, despite lower expressions, the significant overexpression of VEGF-α, c-MET, and EGFR suggests their potential as FLI targets. Pathways for NH3 decomposition to N2 and N2H4 by atmospheric pressure nonthermal plasma are analyzed using a combination of molecular beam mass spectrometry measurements and zero-dimensional kinetic modeling. Experimental measurements show that NH3 conversion and selectivity towards N2 formation scale monotonically with the specific energy input into the plasma with ~ 100% selectivity to N2 formation achieved at specific energy inputs above 0.12 J cm−3 (3.1 eV (molecule NH3)−1). The kinetic model recovers these trends, although it underpredicts N2 selectivity at low specific energy input. These discrepancies can be explained by the underestimation of reaction rate coefficients for reactions that consume N2Hx species in collisions with H radicals and/or radial nonuniformities in power deposition, gas temperature, and species concentrations that are not represented by the plug flow approximation used in the model. The kinetic model shows that N2 formation proceeds through N2Hx decomposition pathways rather than NHx decomposition pathways in low temperature, atmospheric pressure plasma. Higher selectivity toward N2 production can be achieved by operating at higher NH3 conversion and with a higher gas temperature. The high energy cost of NH3 decomposition by atmospheric pressure nonthermal plasma found in this work (25–50 eV (molecule NH3 converted)−1; 17–33 eV (molecule H2 formed)−1) is a result of the energy requirement for electron-impact dissociation of NH3 and the significant re-formation of NH3 by three-body recombination reactions between NH2 and H. Aims/hypothesis: Dietary patterns characterised by high intakes of vegetables may lower the risk of pre-eclampsia and premature birth in the general population. The effect of dietary patterns in women with type 1 diabetes, who have an increased risk of complications in pregnancy, is not known. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity during pregnancy and maternal complications and birth outcomes in women with type 1 diabetes. We also compared dietary patterns in women with and without type 1 diabetes. Methods: Diet was assessed in the third trimester using a validated food frequency questionnaire in participants followed prospectively in the multi-centre Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) study. Dietary patterns were characterised by principal component analysis. The Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire was completed in each trimester. Data for maternal and birth outcomes were collected prospectively. Results: Questionnaires were completed by 973 participants during 1124 pregnancies. Women with type 1 diabetes (n=615 pregnancies with dietary data) were more likely to have a 'fresh food' dietary pattern than women without type 1 diabetes (OR 1.19, 95% CI 1.07, 1.31; p=0.001). In women with type 1 diabetes, an increase equivalent to a change from quartile 1 to 3 in 'fresh food' dietary pattern score was associated with a lower risk of pre-eclampsia (OR 0.37, 95% CI 0.17, 0.78; p=0.01) and premature birth (OR 0.35, 95% CI 0.20, 0.62, p<0.001). These associations were mediated in part by BMI and HbA1c. The 'processed food' dietary pattern was associated with an increased birthweight (β coefficient 56.8 g, 95% CI 2.8, 110.8; p=0.04). Physical activity did not relate to outcomes. Conclusions/interpretation: A dietary pattern higher in fresh foods during pregnancy was associated with sizeable reductions in risk of pre-eclampsia and premature birth in women with type 1 diabetes. Introduction: Desmoid tumors (DTs) are rare, fibroblastic cell proliferations that can exhibit locally aggressive behavior but lack metastatic potential. Initial management has traditionally involved upfront resection; however, contemporary guidelines and expert panels have increasingly advocated for prioritizing active surveillance strategies. Methods: A single-institution, retrospective chart review identified all patients diagnosed with a primary DT at any site from 2007 to 2020. The primary outcome was the initial management strategy over time. Secondary outcomes included treatment-free survival (TFS) and time to treatment (TTT) for those undergoing active surveillance, as well as recurrence-free survival (RFS) and time to recurrence for those undergoing resection. Results: Overall, 103 patients were included, with 68% female and a median follow-up of 44 months [24–74]. The most common tumor locations included the abdominal wall (27%), intra-abdominal/mesenteric (25%), chest wall (19%), and extremity (10%). Initial management included resection (60%), systemic therapy (20%), active surveillance (18%), and cryoablation (2%). Rates of surgical resection significantly decreased (p < 0.001) over time, from 69.6% prior to 2018 to 29.2% after 2018. For those treated with upfront resection, 5-year RFS was 41.2%, and for patients undergoing initial active surveillance, TFS was 66.7% at 2 years, with a median TTT of 4 months [4–10]. Conclusions: This single-institution cohort at a tertiary medical center spanning over a decade demonstrates the transition to active surveillance for initial management of DTs, and highlights salient metrics in the era of surveillance. Background: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) price transparency rule tries to facilitate cost-conscious decision-making. For surgical services, such as pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), factors mediating transparency and real-world reimbursement are not well described. Methods: The Leapfrog Survey was used to identify United States hospitals performing PD. Financial and operational data were obtained from Turquoise Health and CMS Cost Reports. Chi-square tests and modified Poisson regression evaluated associations with reimbursement disclosure. Two-part logistic and gamma regression models estimated effects of hospital factors on commercial, Medicare, and self-pay reimbursements for PD. Results: Of 452 Leapfrog hospitals, 295 (65%) disclosed PD hospital or procedure reimbursements. Disclosing hospitals were larger (beds > 200: 81.0% vs. 71.3%, p = 0.04), reported higher net margins (0.7% vs. − 2.1%, p = 0.04), more likely for-profit (26.1% vs. 6.4%, p < 0.001), and teaching-affiliated (82.0% vs. 65.6%, p < 0.001). Nonprofit status conferred hospitalization reimbursement increases of $8683–$12,329, while moderate market concentration predicted savings up to $5066. Teaching affiliation conferred reimbursement increases of $4589–$16,393 for hospitalizations and $644 for procedures. Top Leapfrog volume ratings predicted an increase of up to $7795 for only Medicare hospitalization reimbursement. Conclusions: Nondisclosure of hospital and procedural reimbursements for PD remains a major issue. Transparency was noted in hospitals with higher margins, size, and academic affiliation. Factors associated with higher reimbursement were non-profit status, academic affiliation, and more equitable market share. Reimbursement inconsistently tracked with PD quality or volume measures. The evolution of morphinan alkaloid biosynthesis in plants of the genus Papaver includes permutation of several processes including gene duplication, fusion, neofunctionalization, and deletion resulting in the present chemotaxonomy. A critical gene fusion event resulting in the key bifunctional enzyme reticuline epimerase (REPI), which catalyzes the stereochemical inversion of (S)-reticuline, was suggested to precede neofunctionalization of downstream enzymes leading to morphine biosynthesis in opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). The ancestrally related aldo-keto reductases 1,2-dehydroreticuline reductase (DRR), which occurs in some species as a component of REPI, and codeinone reductase (COR) catalyze the second and penultimate steps, respectively, in the pathway converting (S)-reticuline to morphine. Orthologs for each enzyme isolated from the transcriptomes of 12 Papaver species were shown to catalyze their respective reactions in species that capture states of the metabolic pathway prior to key evolutionary events, including the gene fusion event leading to REPI, thus suggesting a patchwork model for pathway evolution. Analysis of the structure and substrate preferences of DRR orthologs in comparison with COR orthologs revealed structure-function relationships underpinning the functional latency of DRR and COR orthologs in the genus Papaver, thus providing insights into the molecular events leading to the evolution of the pathway. Conservation across the Papaver genus of two aldo-keto reductases catalyzing the second and penultimate steps in morphine biosynthesis reveals the latent activity of several enzymes and suggests a patchwork model of pathway evolution in opium poppy. Injection molded (IM) and additively manufactured (AM) selective laser sintered (SLS) Nylon-12 was irradiated with gamma irradiation to determine the damage mechanism. Modulated differential scanning calorimetry was used to separate the thermodynamic (reversible) and kinetic (non-reversible) heat flows and evaluate how manufacturing method and radiation dose impacted the thermodynamics of melting, along with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to investigate thermal stability. Tensile testing and fractography were utilized to evaluate mechanical behavior. The bulk crystallinity of SLS Nylon-12 was not significantly affected by gamma radiation and was estimated to be 38.2 ± 2.3% averaged over all doses. Ultimately, 20 MRad of exposure to SLS Nylon-12 reduced the samples' early-stage thermal stability by ca. 14.3 °C as measured by TGA, suggesting that the radiation may have contributed to breaking chemical bonds and/or affecting chain entanglement within the polymer structure. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) decreased with irradiation, suggesting that radiation exposure has a weakening effect (possibly due to chain scissioning) as well as degrading particle coalescence with sintered Nylon-12. SLS Nylon-12 is more susceptible to radiation; the average UTS of Nylon-12 SLS and IM decreased by 54% and 9%, respectively. Background: To assess thoracic vascular computed tomography (CT) contrast enhancement of a novel intravenous tantalum oxide nanoparticle contrast agent (carboxybetaine zwitterionic tantalum oxide, TaCZ) compared to a conventional iodinated contrast agent (Iopamidol) in a rabbit multiphase protocol. Methods: Five rabbits were scanned inside a human-torso-sized encasement on a clinical CT system at various scan delays after intravenous injection of 540 mg element (Ta or I) per kg of bodyweight of TaCZ or Iopamidol. Net contrast enhancement of various arteries and veins, as well as image noise, were measured. Randomized scan series were reviewed by three independent readers on a clinical workstation and assessed for vascular conspicuity and image artifacts on 5-point Likert scales. Results: Overall, net vascular contrast enhancement achieved with TaCZ was superior to Iopamidol (p ≤ 0.036 with the exception of the inferior vena cava at 6 s (p = 0.131). Vascular contrast enhancement achieved with TaCZ at delays of 6 s, 40 s, and 75 s was superior to optimum achieved Iopamidol contrast enhancement at 6 s (p ≤ 0.036. Vascular conspicuity was higher for TaCZ in 269 of 300 (89.7%) arterial and 269 of 300 (89.7%) venous vessel assessments, respectively (p ≤ 0.005), with substantial inter-reader reliability (κ = 0.61; p < 0.001) and strong positive monotonic correlation between conspicuity scores and contrast enhancement measurements (ρ = 0.828; p < 0.001). Conclusion: TaCZ provides absolute and relative contrast advantages compared to Iopamidol for improved visualization of thoracic arteries and veins in a multiphase CT protocol. Emergent digital technologies provide cultural heritage spaces with the opportunity to reassess their current user journey. An immersive user experience can be developed that is innovative, dynamic, and customised for each attendee. Museums have already begun to move towards interactive exhibitions utilising Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IOT), and more recently, the use of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) has become more common in cultural heritage spaces to present items of historical significance. VR concentrates on the provision of full immersion within a digitised environment utilising a headset, whilst AR focuses on the inclusion of digitised content within the existing physical environment that can be accessed through a medium such as a mobile phone application. Machine learning techniques such as a recommender system can support an immersive user journey by issuing personalised recommendations regarding a user's preferred future content based on their previous activity. An ethical approach is necessary to take the precautions required to protect the welfare of human participants and eliminate any aspect of stereotyping or biased behaviour. This paper sets out a human-centred manifesto intended to provide guidance when inducing smart digital immersion in cultural heritage spaces. A review of existing digital cultural heritage projects was conducted to determine their adherence to the manifesto with the findings indicating that Education was a primary focus across all projects and that Personalisation, Respect and Empathy, and Support were also highly valued. Plastic is a material that has become ubiquitous since entering the marketplace in the 1930s and 1940s; as a result, the presence of nano and microplastics (NMPs) are pervasive in natural environments affecting air, soil and water ecosystems. These NMPs are varied in size (categorised as either microplastics at 5 mm–1 µm or nanoplastics at < 1 µm), shape and chemical composition. They represent a potential threat to aquatic life and human health through ingestion and inhalation. The toxicity of NMPs is attributed to chemical additives introduced during production and the absorbance of inorganic and organic chemical contaminants in environmental settings. This review is designed to discuss the use of biochar as a natural adsorbent for the remediation of water contaminated with NMPs. Biochar is a sustainable, affordable material which can remediate water and contribute to ecosystem restoration. Whilst it is well established as a material to sorb organic and inorganic contaminants, its use to remove NMPs is in its infancy and as such this review sets out to outline the mechanisms and modifications of biochar to remove NMPs from aqueous environments. Although removal mechanisms in laboratory settings are becoming clearer this review highlights that remediative studies need to be undertaken in conjunction with the systematic investigation of the effect of key environmental parameters on remediation and the use of environmentally aged NMPs. The future direction of this discipline also needs to incorporate field trials alongside laboratory work to develop a stronger understanding of the viability of biochar to remove NMPs from waterways.Highlights: Biochar is a viable option to treat NMP contaminated water. Post-conflict behaviors are a crucial component of primate sociality, yet are difficult to study in the wild. We evaluated the presence and timing of reconciliation, victim-solicited and unsolicited third-party affiliation, and secondary and redirected aggression following observed agonistic interactions among 38 wild gelada monkeys (Theropithecus gelada) in eight one-male, multi-female units at Guassa, Ethiopia, from April to August 2018. We also report background rates of aggression and patterns of agonistic interactions and post-conflict behaviours among wild geladas relative to possible mediating factors for each conflict, including social rank disparity, kinship type, sex, age class, conflict intensity, and conflict decidedness. Across 55 post-conflict and 55 subsequent matched-control focal follows, we found no evidence for post-conflict reconciliation, third-party affiliation, secondary aggression, or redirected aggression. These findings contrast with previous studies of captive geladas, which find that individuals often reconcile after fights and frequently exhibit unsolicited third-party affiliation when reconciliation does not occur. Our results from wild geladas point to possible populational differences in behavioral tendencies arising from variable space, time, social grouping, and/or food availability constraints. Our findings also reveal potential limitations in applying identical data collection protocols across environmental contexts and underscore the importance of creating generalizable cross-context metrics to better understand, and contextualize, the diversity of post-conflict behavioral mechanisms underpinning primate sociality in geladas and other group-living primates. An integral of a group G is a group H whose derived group (commutator subgroup) is isomorphic to G. This paper continues the investigation on integrals of groups started in the work [1]. We study: A sufficient condition for a bound on the order of an integral for a finite integrable group (Theorem 2.1) and a necessary condition for a group to be integrable (Theorem 3.2). The existence of integrals that are p-groups for abelian p-groups, and of nilpotent integrals for all abelian groups (Theorem 4.1). Integrals of (finite or infinite) abelian groups, including nilpotent integrals, groups with finite index in some integral, periodic groups, torsion-free groups and finitely generated groups (Section 5). The variety of integrals of groups from a given variety, varieties of integrable groups and classes of groups whose integrals (when they exist) still belong to such a class (Sections 6 and 7). Here we report the case of a cow with two ovaries that each exhibited hyperplasia but that otherwise had normal gross morphology. Both ovaries had a large number of tertiary follicles on the ovarian surface. Oocytes from one ovary were studied in more detail. The transcriptome was largely similar to other oocytes. Oocytes could undergo cleavage at a rate consistent with other oocytes and result in blastocyst-stage embryo formation after in vitro maturation and fertilization. Review of the literature from cattle and other species did not reveal reports of a similar type of spontaneous ovarian abnormality. Whole genome sequencing revealed many single nucleotide polymorphisms with predicted large effects on protein structure that could potentially be causative for the phenotype. The fermentative model yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been extensively used to study the genetic basis of stress response and homeostasis. In this study, we performed quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis of the high-temperature fermentation trait of the progeny from the mating of the S. cerevisiae natural isolate BCC39850 (haploid#17) and the laboratory strain CEN.PK2-1C. A single QTL on chromosome X was identified, encompassing six candidate genes (GEA1, PTK2, NTA1, NPA3, IRT1, and IML1). The functions of these candidates were tested by reverse genetic experiments. Deletion mutants of PTK2, NTA1, and IML1 showed growth defects at 42 °C. The PTK2 knock-out mutant also showed significantly reduced ethanol production and plasma membrane H+ ATPase activity and increased sensitivity to acetic acid, ethanol, amphotericin B (AMB), and β-1,3-glucanase treatment. The CRISPR-Cas9 system was used to construct knock-in mutants by replacement of PTK2, NTA1, IML1, and NPA3 genes with BCC39850 alleles. The PTK2 and NTA1 knock-in mutants showed increased growth and ethanol production titers at 42 °C. These findings suggest an important role for the PTK2 serine/threonine protein kinase in regulating plasma membrane H+ ATPase activity and the NTA1 N-terminal amidase in protein degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome system machinery, which affects tolerance to heat stress in S. cerevisiae. Context: The invasion of annual grasses in western U.S. rangelands promotes high litter accumulation throughout the landscape that perpetuates a grass-fire cycle threatening biodiversity. Objectives: To provide novel evidence on the potential of fine spatial and structural resolution remote sensing data derived from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to separately estimate the biomass of vegetation and litter fractions in sagebrush ecosystems. Methods: We calculated several plot-level metrics with ecological relevance and representative of the biomass fraction distribution by strata from UAV Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and Structure-from-Motion (SfM) datasets and regressed those predictors against vegetation, litter, and total biomass fractions harvested in the field. We also tested a hybrid approach in which we used digital terrain models (DTMs) computed from UAV LiDAR data to height-normalize SfM-derived point clouds (UAV SfM-LiDAR). Results: The metrics derived from UAV LiDAR data had the highest predictive ability in terms of total (R2 = 0.74) and litter (R2 = 0.59) biomass, while those from the UAV SfM-LiDAR provided the highest predictive performance for vegetation biomass (R2 = 0.77 versus R2 = 0.72 for UAV LiDAR). In turn, SfM and SfM-LiDAR point clouds indicated a pronounced decrease in the estimation performance of litter and total biomass. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that high-density UAV LiDAR datasets are essential for consistently estimating all biomass fractions through more accurate characterization of (i) the vertical structure of the plant community beneath top-of-canopy surface and (ii) the terrain microtopography through thick and dense litter layers than achieved with SfM-derived products. Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is a major cereal grain with uses in the feed, food, and malting industries. Growth habit, seed dormancy, and disease resistance are important considerations when selecting germplasm for production or release. With the ever-increasing availability of sequencing technologies, a deeper understanding of the genes underlying these key traits is within reach. In the present case study, the VRN-H1 (HvBM5A), SD2 (HvMKK3), and the novel stem and stripe rust resistance quantitative trait locus (QTL) described by Hernandez et al. (Hernandez et al. Phytopathology 110:1082–1092, 2020b) were investigated. These loci in three advanced barley inbred genotypes were the focus of the present study using next-generation sequencing. The intent behind the study was the identification and exploration of possible causal sequence variation in the genotypes within the context of the whole gene or QTL region. The sequence data was used to identify an intron one deletion in the HvBM5A sequence of the spring genotype that was conserved in the winter and facultative genotypes. Interestingly, a tandem duplication of the HvMKK3 sequence was identified in one of the genotypes, Thunder, that merits further investigation. Finally, 13 high confidence genes were identified within the Morex V3 reference genome in proximity to the rust QTL identified previously. Sequence variation between all tested genotypes was identified for 11 of the genes. This study explored structural and sequence variation of key genes in barley development and outlined directions for future research. The oxidation resistance of Hf0.28B0.72 and Hf0.11Al0.20B0.69 thin films was investigated comparatively at 700 °C for up to 8 h. Single-phase solid solution thin films were co-sputtered from HfB2 and AlB2 compound targets. After oxidation at 700 °C for 8 h an oxide scale thickness of 31 ± 2 nm was formed on Hf0.11Al0.20B0.69 which corresponds to 14% of the scale thickness measured on Hf0.28B0.72. The improved oxidation resistance can be rationalized based on the chemical composition and the morphology of the formed oxide scales. On Hf0.28B0.72 the formation of a porous, O, Hf, and B-containing scale and the formation of crystalline HfO2 is observed. Whereas on Hf0.11Al0.20B0.69 a dense, primarily amorphous scale containing O, Al, B as well as approximately 3 at% of Hf forms, which reduces the oxidation kinetics significantly by passivation. Benchmarking Hf0.11Al0.20B0.69 with Ti–Al-based boride and nitride thin films with similar Al concentrations reveals superior oxidation behavior of the Hf-Al-based thin film. The incorporation of few at% of Hf in the oxide scale decelerates oxidation kinetics at 700 °C and leads to a reduction in oxide scale thickness of 21% and 47% compared to Ti0.12Al0.21B0.67 and Ti0.27Al0.21N0.52, respectively. Highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI H5N1) viruses occasionally infect, but typically do not transmit, in mammals. In the spring of 2024, an unprecedented outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in bovine herds occurred in the USA, with virus spread within and between herds, infections in poultry and cats, and spillover into humans, collectively indicating an increased public health risk1–4. Here we characterize an HPAI H5N1 virus isolated from infected cow milk in mice and ferrets. Like other HPAI H5N1 viruses, the bovine H5N1 virus spread systemically, including to the mammary glands of both species, however, this tropism was also observed for an older HPAI H5N1 virus isolate. Bovine HPAI H5N1 virus bound to sialic acids expressed in human upper airways and inefficiently transmitted to exposed ferrets (one of four exposed ferrets seroconverted without virus detection). Bovine HPAI H5N1 virus thus possesses features that may facilitate infection and transmission in mammals.HPAI H5N1 virus isolated from infected cow milk is characterized in mice and ferrets, was inefficiently transmitted in ferrets, and bound to sialic acids expressed in human upper airways, showing features that may facilitate infection in mammals. The current study examines how careless online behavior and personality traits are related to the detection of fake news. We tested the relationships among accurately distinguishing between fake and real news headlines, careless online behavioral tendencies, and the HEXACO and dark triad personality traits. Poorer discernment between fake and real news headlines was associated with greater careless behavior online (i.e., greater online disinhibition, greater risky online behavior, greater engagement with strangers online, and less suspicion of others' intentions online), as well as lower Conscientiousness, Openness, and Honesty-Humility, and greater dark triad traits. The article discusses the development and benefits of total body positron emission tomography (PET) scanners, which have an extended axial field of view and improved sensitivity compared to traditional scanners. These scanners allow for simultaneous imaging of the entire body, resulting in higher sensitivity, improved signal-to-noise ratio, shorter scan times, and the ability to conduct pediatric scans without anesthesia. The article highlights the clinical and research applications of total body PET scanners, including the quantification of mu-opioid receptors in the monkey brain, spinal cord, and peripheral organs. Linear model trees are regression trees that incorporate linear models in the leaf nodes. This preserves the intuitive interpretation of decision trees and at the same time enables them to better capture linear relationships, which is hard for standard decision trees. But most existing methods for fitting linear model trees are time consuming and therefore not scalable to large data sets. In addition, they are more prone to overfitting and extrapolation issues than standard regression trees. In this paper we introduce PILOT, a new algorithm for linear model trees that is fast, regularized, stable and interpretable. PILOT trains in a greedy fashion like classic regression trees, but incorporates an L2 boosting approach and a model selection rule for fitting linear models in the nodes. The abbreviation PILOT stands for PIecewise Linear Organic Tree, where 'organic' refers to the fact that no pruning is carried out. PILOT has the same low time and space complexity as CART without its pruning. An empirical study indicates that PILOT tends to outperform standard decision trees and other linear model trees on a variety of data sets. This article discusses the safety, structure, and function of two patients who underwent human embryonic stem cell-derived retinal pigment epithelium (hESC-RPE) patch transplantation for acute neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with submacular hemorrhage. The study followed the patients for five years and found no evidence of uncontrolled RPE proliferation, tumor formation, or major ocular immune reactions. The patients experienced improved best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at two years, although the BCVA decreased for one patient at five years. The study also observed patch pigmentation and areas of continuous hyper-reflective lines consistent with the hESC-RPE on imaging. Purpose: Short-term intake of the egg-protein hydrolysate Newtricious (NWT)-03 improved executive function, but underlying mechanisms and long-term effects, including other cognitive domains, are unknown. Methods: A 36-week randomized controlled trial involving 44 overweight/obese individuals experiencing elevated Subjective Cognitive Failures (SCF; aged 60–75 years) assessed the impact of daily consumption of 5.7 g of NWT-03 or placebo powders on cognitive performance (psychomotor speed, executive function, memory) and Cerebral Blood Flow (CBF), a marker of brain vascular function. Cognitive performance was evaluated using a neurophysiological test battery (CANTAB) and CBF was measured using magnetic resonance imaging perfusion method Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL). Serum samples were collected to determine brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentrations. Results: Anthropometrics, and energy and nutrient intakes remained stable throughout the trial. NWT-03 was well tolerated, and compliance was excellent (median: 99%; range: 87–103%). No overall intervention effects were observed on cognitive performance or CBF, but post-hoc analyses revealed significant improvements on executive function in women, but not men. Specifically, a reduction of 74 ms in reaction latency on the multitasking task (95% CI: −134 to −15; p = 0.02), a reduction of 9 between errors (95%CI: −14 to −3; p < 0.001), and a reduction of 9 total errors (95%CI: −15 to −3; p < 0.001) on the spatial working memory task were found in women. No intervention effects were observed on serum BDNF concentrations (p = 0.31). Conclusion: Long-term consumption of NWT-03 improved multitasking abilities and working memory in women with elevated SCF. Brain vascular function remained unaffected. Phytophthora diversity was examined in eight forest and ornamental nurseries in the Czech Republic. A leaf baiting isolation technique and, in two nurseries, also Illumina DNA metabarcoding were used to reveal the diversity of Phytophthora in soil and irrigation water and compare the efficacy of both approaches. In total, baiting revealed the occurrence of 12 Phytophthora taxa in 59.4% of soil samples from seven (87.5%) nurseries. Additional baiting of compost was carried out in two nurseries and two Phytophthora species were recovered. Irrigation water was examined in three nurseries by baiting or by direct isolation from partially decomposed floating leaves collected from the water source, and two Phytophthora species were obtained. Illumina sequencing of soil and water samples was done in two and one nurseries, respectively. Phytophthora reads were identified as 45 Phytophthora taxa, 15 of them previously unknown taxa from Clades 6, 7, 8 and 9. Another 11 taxa belonged to known or undescribed species of the oomycete genera Globisporangium, Hyaloperonospora, Nothophytophthora, Peronospora and Plasmopara. Overall, with both techniques 50 Phytophthora taxa were detected with five taxa (P. taxon organica, P. plurivora, P. rosacearum, P. syringae and P. transitoria) being exclusively detected by baiting and 38 only by DNA metabarcoding. Particularly common records in DNA barcoding were P. cinnamomi and P. lateralis which were not isolated by baiting. Only seven species were detected by both techniques. It is recommended to use the combination of both techniques to determine true diversity of Phytophthora in managed or natural ecosystems and reveal the presence of rare or unknown Phytophthora taxa. Purpose of Review: Sleep disturbances are amongst most frequent non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's Disease (PD), and they are similarly frequently reported in other alpha-syncleinopathies, such as Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). More recently, the orexin system has been implicated in control of arousal based on salient environmental set points, and its dysregulation in sleep issues in alpha-synucleinopathies suggested by the findings from the translational animal models. However, its role in the patients with alpha-synucleinopathies remains unclear. We thus set to systematically review, and to critically assess, contemporary evidence on the association of the orexinergic system and sleep disturbances in alpha-synucleinopathies. In this systematic review, studies investigating orexin and sleep in alpha-synucleinopathies (Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Behaviour Disorder (RBD), Parkinson's Disease (PD), Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), Multiple System Atrophy (MSA)) were identified using electronic database searches of PubMed, Web of Science and PsychINFO using MeSH terms, keywords, and title words such as "Alpha-synucleinopathies" AND "Orexin" AND "Sleep Disturbances". Recent findings: 17 studies were included in this systemic review, of which 2 studies on RBD, 10 on PD, 4 on DLB, and 1 on MSA patients. Taken together, RBD and PD studies suggest a potential adaptive increase in orexin levels in early stages of the neurodegenerative process, with reduced levels more often reported for later, more advanced stages of illness. To date, no differences in orexin levels were demonstrated between MSA patients and healthy controls. Summary: There is a dearth of studies on the role of orexin levels in alpha-synucleinopathies. Moreover, significant methodologic limitations in the current body of work, including use of non-standardised research protocols and lack of prospective, multi-centre studies, disallow for any finite conclusion in regards to underlying pathomechanisms. Nonetheless, a picture of a complex, multifaceted relationship between the dysregulation of the orexinergic pathway and sleep disturbances in alpha-synucleinopathies is emerging. Hence, future studies disentangling orexinergic pathomechanisms of alpha-syncleinopathies are urgently needed to obtain a more comprehensive account of the role of orexinergic pathway in alpha-synucleinopathies. Pharmacological manipulations of orexins may have multiple therapeutic applications in treatment strategies, disease diagnosis, and might be effective for treating both motor and non-motor symptoms. The current agri-food systems are unable to fulfill global demand and account for 33% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Conventional agriculture cannot produce more food because of the scarcity of arable land, the depletion of freshwater resources, and the increase in greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, it is important to investigate alternate farming methods. Algae farming is a feasible alternative that produces food, feed, and feedstock using wastelands and unconventional agricultural settings such as coastal regions, salt-affected soils, and urban/peri-urban environments. This review focuses on three emerging scenarios. First is seawater, which makes up 97.5% of the water on Earth. However, it is nevertheless used less often than freshwater. Second is a growing trend of people moving from rural to urban regions for improved employment prospects, living standards, and business chances. However, most rural migrants are essentially skilled in agriculture, which limits their applicability in metropolitan environments. The third scenario focuses on excellent crop yields and soil fertility; it is essential to maintain appropriate levels of organic matter and soil structure. In this case, algae have remarkable potential for osmoregulation-based salt tolerance and may provide valuable metabolites when cultivated in brackish or saltwater. Using brackish water, treated wastewater, and saltwater, algal culture systems may be established in arid/semi-arid, urban/peri-urban, and coastal areas to fulfill the increasing need for food, feed, and industrial feedstocks. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term effects of almond consumption on peripheral vascular function, ambulant blood pressure profiles (ABP), and serum/plasma markers reflecting endothelial dysfunction and inflammation in participants with overweight/obesity and prediabetes. Methods: Thirty-four participants completed this single-blinded, randomized, cross-over trial with 5-month intervention and control periods, separated by a 2-month wash-out. During the intervention period, participants consumed 50 g of whole almonds daily. At the end of each intervention period, peripheral vascular function was assessed by measuring the carotid-to-femoral and carotid-to-radial pulse wave velocities (PWVc-f and PWVc-r, respectively) and retinal microvascular calibers. Serum/plasma concentrations of soluble intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), serum amyloid A protein (SAA) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and 24-hour ABP were also analyzed. Results: Almond consumption did not significantly affect arterial stiffness (PWVc−f and PWVc−r), while central retinal venular equivalent (CRVE) was minimally increased by 2 μm (P = 0.019). Central retinal arteriolar equivalent (CRAE), the arteriolar-to-venular ratio (AVR), and endothelial and inflammatory serum/plasma markers showed no significant changes after almond consumption. Almond consumption reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP; -3 mmHg 24-hour P = 0.035, -4 mmHg daytime P = 0.046, and − 4 mmHg during nighttime P = 0.029), SBP variability during 24-hour, daytime, and nighttime (P = 0.005, P = 0.019, and P = 0.003, respectively), and diastolic blood pressure variability during nighttime (P ≤ 0.001). Conclusion: Almond consumption did not affect arterial stiffness, retinal microvasculature calibers, or serum and plasma markers for endothelial dysfunction and inflammation in participants with prediabetics, while BP and BP variability were improved. In this work we introduce the LAMBDA 4.0 toolbox, which provides an enhanced implementation for integer estimation, validation, and success rate evaluation. This free and open-source toolbox is a major update to LAMBDA 3.0 (2012), while it also integrates the functionalities from Ps-LAMBDA 1.0 (2013), thus respectively merging both estimation and evaluation capabilities. The new implementation provides redefined algorithms, such as an improved integer search strategy with a one-order reduction in the computational time, along with additional estimators: Vectorial Integer Bootstrapping (VIB), Integer Aperture Bootstrapping (IAB) and Best Integer Equivariant (BIE). This toolbox aims to become a valuable resource for researchers and/or practitioners dealing with mixed-integer models in high dimensions, e.g., terrestrial-based carrier-phase systems, multi-constellation Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), or other interferometric applications. Distal forearm fractures are the most common pediatric fractures. Currently, the diagnostic reference standard is X-ray. However, there is growing evidence that point-of-care ultrasound can be used for the diagnosis of distal forearm fractures in children and adolescents with good accuracy. The objective of this scoping review was to explore the current evidence for the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis of pediatric distal forearm fractures and to identify the gaps in the literature for further research. We performed a scoping review searching on the following databases PubMed, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, EMBASE, and ClinicalTrials.gov. The main review question was “What is the evidence for using ultrasound to diagnose distal forearm fractures in patients < 18 years old?” All types of studies, including randomized clinical trials and prospective and retrospective observational studies (case–control, cohort, and cross-sectional studies, case series) were included. Twenty-three articles were included in the scoping review; only two articles were from a single randomized controlled trial. Our scoping review found high sensitivity (91.5–99.5%) and specificity (85–99.5%) of POCUS for distal forearm fracture diagnosis. All studies used a linear ultrasound probe, with an upper range frequency ranging from 5 to 15 MHz and typically used a six-view scanning protocol. The duration of the procedure was only a few minutes, and pain associated with ultrasound was usually mild. When compared with X-ray, an ultrasound first approach shortened the length of stay by an average of 15 min per participant. Conclusions: The evidence suggests that ultrasound can be used for the diagnosis of clinically nondeformed distal forearm fractures in children and adolescents by a variety of practitioners. With the rapid advancement in technology, numerous advanced vehicular applications have emerged that generate large volumes of data that need to be processed on the fly. The vehicles' computing resources are limited and constrained in processing the huge amount of data generated by these applications. Cloud data centers, which are large and capable of processing the generated data, tend to be far away from the vehicles. The long distance between the cloud and the vehicles results in large transmission delays, making the cloud less suitable for executing such data. To address the long-standing issue of huge transmission delays in the cloud, edge computing, which deploys computing servers at the edge of the network, was introduced. The edge computing network shortens the communication distance between the vehicles and the processing resources and also provides more powerful computation compared to the vehicles' computing resources. The advantages offered by the vehicular edge network can only be fully realized with robust and efficient resource allocation. Poor allocation of these resources can lead to a worse situation than the cloud. In this paper, a hybrid Marine Predatory and Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm (MPA–PSO) is proposed for optimal resource allocation. The MPA–PSO algorithm takes advantage of the effectiveness and reliability of the global and local search abilities of the Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm (PSO) to improve the suboptimal global search ability of the MPA. This enhances the other steps in the MPA to ensure an optimal solution. The proposed MPA–PSO algorithm was implemented using MATLAB alongside the conventional PSO and MPA, and the proposed MPA–PSO recorded a significant improvement over the PSO and MPA. Carnosine is an endogenous dipeptide that buffers intracellular pH and quenches toxic products of lipid peroxidation. Used as a dietary supplement, it also supports exercise endurance. However, the accumulation and distribution of carnosine after supplementation has not been rigorously evaluated. To do this, we randomized a cohort to receive daily supplements of either placebo or carnosine (2 g/day). Blood and urine samples were collected twice over the subsequent 12 week supplementation period and we measured levels of red blood cell (RBC) carnosine, urinary carnosine, and urinary carnosine-propanol and carnosine-propanal conjugates by LC/MS–MS. We found that, when compared with placebo, supplementation with carnosine for 6 or 12 weeks led to an approximate twofold increase in RBC carnosine, while levels of urinary carnosine increased nearly sevenfold. Although there were no changes in the urinary levels of carnosine propanol, carnosine propanal increased nearly twofold. RBC carnosine levels were positively associated with urinary carnosine and carnosine propanal levels. No adverse reactions were reported by those in the carnosine or placebo arms, nor did carnosine supplementation have any effect on kidney, liver, and cardiac function or blood electrolytes. In conclusion, irrespective of age, sex, or BMI, oral carnosine supplementation in humans leads to its increase in RBC and urine, as well as an increase in urinary carnosine-propanal. RBC carnosine may be a readily accessible pool to estimate carnosine levels. Disease-monitoring in large vessel vasculitis (LVV) is challenging. Simultaneous 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography with magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) provides functional assessment of vascular inflammation alongside high-definition structural imaging with a relatively low burden of radiation exposure. Here, we investigate the ability of PET/MRI to monitor LVV disease activity longitudinally in a prospective cohort of patients with active LVV. We demonstrate that both the PET and MRI components of the scan can distinguish active from inactive disease using established quantification methods. Using logistic-regression modelling of PET/MRI metrics, we devise a novel PET/MRI-specific Vasculitis Activity using MR PET (VAMP) score which is able to distinguish active from inactive disease with more accuracy than established methods and detects changes in disease activity longitudinally. These findings are evaluated in an independent validation cohort. Finally, PET/MRI improves clinicians’ assessment of LVV disease activity and confidence in disease management, as assessed via clinician survey. In summary, PET/MRI may be useful in tracking disease activity and assessing treatment-response in LVV.
