Background: Auditory electrophysiological tests of the cortex, which are processed in or close to the auditory cortex, are brain reactions to sound. A variation in a continuous stimulus causes the acoustic change complex potential (ACC), which is a wave following the P1-N1-P2 response. Objective: To measure the amplitude and latency of different components of ACC in normal subjects and across individuals with mild and moderate degrees of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Patients and methods: The study includes 100 individuals with the age ranged from 10 to 50 years with different degrees of SNHL. The ACC was evoked by a change of second formant in the middle of ongoing steady-state synthetic, 3 formant vowels (ooee). The total duration was 500 ms. Changing occurred at 250 ms. Results: The SNHL subgroups showed statistically significantly longer P1 and N1 latencies. N1 and P2 amplitudes of ACC onset response were larger with a statistical significance as compared to controls. Post hoc analysis revealed no statistically significant difference between mild and moderate SNHL on ACC parameters. Age showed a significant negative correlation with ACC N1 and P2 latency, ACC P1 and N1 amplitude, and onset P2 latency. Onset response P1 latency was significantly higher in children than adults. Median ACC P1 amplitude significantly increased in children than adults. Conclusion: ACC is a reliable tool for testing the auditory cortex function of detecting difference in sounds presented that can be recorded readily in patients with mild and moderate SNHL. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as essential regulators of gene expression, significantly influencing various biological processes. Approximately half of all lncRNAs are classified as long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs), which are situated among coding genes. Recent studies have documented the role of lincRNAs in the pathogenesis of lung diseases, including lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary arterial hypertension. These lincRNAs can modulate gene expression through various mechanisms, including epigenetic modifications, transcriptional regulation, and post-transcriptional regulation. By functioning as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), lincRNAs can affect the activity of microRNAs (miRNAs) and their corresponding target genes. This review delves into the intricate mechanisms by which lincRNAs contribute to the development and progression of various lung diseases. This research evaluates the environmental and health risks linked to potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and PAHs along the western coast of the Gulf of Suez, Egypt. This study investigated the concentration of 16 PAH compounds in the Suez Gulf, revealing significantly higher levels than the EU (0.20 µg/L) and US (0.030 µg/L) standards. The average total PAH concentration across eight locations was significantly higher, with the Suez area having the highest concentration at 479 µg/L. Pyrene (Pyr) was the dominant PAH with a concentration of 443 µg/L in Suez, while acenaphthylene (Ace) had the lowest concentration at 0.120 µg/L in Northern Zaafarana. Carcinogenic PAHs (CAR) ranged from 8.67 µg/L at Ras Gharib to 29.62 µg/L at Suez, highlighting the urgent need for regulatory measures. Confirmatory ratios pointed to industrial and shipping influences as petrogenic sources. Elevated total organic carbon (TOC) levels in Suez Bay indicated aggravated organic pollution, exacerbated by oil rigs and refineries. The ecological risk assessment highlighted substantial risks, particularly in Suez, necessitating immediate interventions to combat PAH contamination and preserve the environmental balance of the Red Sea. The dominant metals in water samples were arranged in descending order as follows: Pb > Fe > Cr > Cu > Zn > Mn > Cd > Ni. The study evaluated environmental and human health risks using a multifaceted approach, including cluster analysis, principal component analysis, and various indices (HPI, RI, MI, HQ, HI, and CR). Most water samples exhibited high pollution risks, surpassing permissible limits for HPI (> 100) and MI (> 6). Notably, HI oral values indicated significant non-carcinogenic risks for adults and children. While HI values for adults suggested low-risk dermal contact, those for children showed a substantial proportion in the high-risk category. Most water samples displayed CR values exceeding 1 × 10–4 for Cd, Cr, and Pb, indicating vulnerability to carcinogenic effects in both age groups. Monte Carlo simulations reinforced these findings, revealing a significant carcinogenic impact on children and adults. The identified clusters, reflective of industrial, petroleum-related, and urban runoff contamination sources, were consistently validated and clarified through PCA, enhancing the reliability of the findings. In light of these results, urgent and comprehensive water treatment measures are imperative to mitigate carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risks. Background: Statins or 3‑hydroxy‑3‑methyl‑glutarylcoenzyme A (HMG‑CoA) reductase inhibitors are medications that act by reducing the cholesterol content of liver cells Moreover, statins have been found to improve endothelial function and reduce vascular wall inflammation. A growing body of research suggests that statins are associated with less risk of migraine, and they can be used to treat symptoms. However, the evidence has been inconclusive, so we aim to investigate the nature and strength of the effect of statins on the prevention and prophylaxis of migraines. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive systematic search across multiple electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library, from inception until October 2024, to include studies on the association between statins use and migraine. The outcomes of interest involved the association of the HMG-CoA reductase gene with the risk of migraine, as well as the association and efficacy of statins in migraine patients. Results: Thirteen studies were included in our systematic review. Mendelian Randomization (MR) studies revealed that expression of HMGCR was associated with an increased risk of migraine with odds ratio (OR) ranging from 1.38 to 1.55 (P < 0.001). Three observational studies investigating the relationship between statins and migraine risk demonstrated a protective effect, with odds ratios ranging from 0.73 to 0.94 (P < 0.001). The findings suggest a significant reduction in overall migraine risk, particularly for migraines with aura and in patients with higher vitamin D levels. Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) showed that statins significantly reduced monthly migraine frequency (MD= -3.16, 95%CI= [-5.79, -0.53]; p = 0.02, I2 = 79%; P = 0.03). RCTs supported the efficacy of statins in reducing migraine frequency, days, and intensity compared to placebo. Conclusions: Statins, already well-established for cardiovascular benefits, emerge as a promising dual-purpose therapy for many neurological disorders. The association between the HMGCR gene and increased migraine risk, coupled with the possible efficacy of statins in reducing migraine frequency, may open new avenues for migraine prophylaxis. The rice moth, Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is a harmful insect pest for grains in storage systems. However, there is a lack of available data on the effect of ozone on rice moth. In this study, we assessed the ozone at concentrations of 1.0, 3.0, and 5.0 g/m3 for six-time intervals (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 h) on the mortality of insect life stages as well as pupation and adult emergence. The results showed that for all stages, the percent of mortality increased with increasing concentration and exposure time with 5.0 g/m3 and 5.0 h of exposure time resulted in 100.0% egg mortality. The highest mortality of treated larvae (89.1%) and pupae (96.2%) resulted after 5.0 h exposure to 5.0 g/m3 of ozone. Also, the results showed that the treated adults were more sensitive to ozone than the three other stages. A complete adult mortality was achieved by all concentrations of ozone at the following exposure times, 5.0 h after 1.0 day of treatment, 4.0 h after 2.0 days of treatment and 2.0 h after 3.0 days of treatment. Beside the effect on mortality, ozone suppressed the pupation and adult emergence from treated immature stages. The chemical analysis of treated wheat flour showed a slight decrease in protein, fat, carbohydrate, moisture and fibre and a slight increase in ash contents compared with untreated wheat flour. Asthma is a severe respiratory disease marked by airway inflammation, remodeling, and oxidative stress. β-Glucan (BG), a polysaccharide constituent of fungal cellular structures, exhibits potent immunomodulatory activities. The investigational focus was on the anti-asthmatic and anti-ferroptotic properties of beta-glucan nanoparticles (BG-NPs) in a murine model of allergic asthma induced by ovalbumin (OVA). BG was extracted from Chaga mushrooms (Inonotus obliquus), and its BG-NPs were characterized utilizing techniques including FT-IR, UV visible spectroscopy, zeta potential analysis, DLS, XRD, and TEM. The Balb/C mice were allocated into five groups: control, untreated asthmatic, dexamethasone (Dexa)-treated (1 mg/kg), BG-treated (100 mg/kg), BG-NPs-treated (45 mg/kg), and BG-treated (100 mg/kg). Treatment with BG-NPs markedly diminished the entry of inflammatory cells into the respiratory passage, serum IgE concentrations, DNA damage, and markers of oxidative stress through the reduction of malonaldehyde (MDA) levels and enhancing the levels of reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT). Furthermore, BG-NPs reduced iron deposition and promoted the transcriptional activity of the GPx4 gene in pulmonary cells, attenuating ferroptosis. The results demonstrated that BG-NPs reduced asthma by inhibiting oxidative stress, inflammation, DNA damage, and ferroptosis. This paper presents an implementation of a cooling system within a room wall, combining a photovoltaic panel outside the wall, two layers of phase change material embedded in the wall, and a thermoelectric cooling (TEC) system inside the wall. The objective of this work is to substitute the conventional air conditioning system with an environmentally friendly one powered only by solar energy. In addition, A comparison is made between using the PV panel, PV with PCM, and the proposed cooling system. The phase change materials layers are employed; one is to absorb the heat from the thermo-electric system to enhance the cooling performance, and the other is to cool the photovoltaic (PV) panel. A detailed mathematical model of the systems is created, solved using numerical methods, and then validated. The overall system, including PV, PCM, and TEC, substitutes one wall or the roof, so the investigation is conducted to assess the performance of the TEC cooling system when the overall system replaces the west, east, north, and south walls, as well as the roof. The results of this study indicate that the most effective performance of the TEC cooling system is obtained when it is installed on the roof, with a maximum PV power output of 857 W, indoor temperature reduction of 17.5 °C, and maximum system COP of 6. The lowest obtained indoor temperature is 19.8 for the east wall system, while this value is 20.42 and 26.7 °C in the case of roof and west cooling systems, respectively. The minimum coefficient of performance of the cooling system is 2, 1.9, and 4.34 for the east, roof, and west systems. Tetanus is a serious toxin-mediated disease caused by Clostridium tetani, and it was well-known to ancient physicians and in Greece. The disease is still prevalent in developing countries including Egypt with high morbidity and mortality. It is preventable with a safe and cost-effective vaccine and effective immunization programs. Background: The treatment landscape for intracranial aneurysms (IAs), particularly those involving the middle cerebral artery (MCA), has evolved significantly over the past two decades. The pivotal International Subarachnoid Aneurysm Trial (ISAT) of 2002 heralded a paradigm shift toward endovascular coiling as the preferred treatment modality for ruptured IAs, prompting a widespread adoption of this approach in neurosurgical centers worldwide. However, despite the initial enthusiasm for coiling, microsurgical clipping remains the cornerstone of treatment for MCA aneurysms in experienced cerebrovascular centers due to its superior efficacy in achieving complete aneurysm occlusion and minimizing long-term recurrence rates. Objective: We aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of microsurgical clipping versus endovascular coiling for middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysms, focusing on rates of occlusion, procedural complications, and long-term neurological outcomes. Methods: We prospectively analyzed 40 patients with ruptured and unruptured MCA aneurysms presented at Ain Shams University Hospital neurosurgical department from January 2021 to December 2023 and they underwent microsurgical clipping or endovascular coiling. Results: In patients treated with microsurgical clipping for MCA aneurysms, commonly associated with hypertension, smoking, and drug abuse, favorable clinical grades were observed, with most aneurysms located at bifurcations. Intra-operative complications, primarily premature rupture, led to a 12.45-day hospital stay, with post-operative issues including vasospasm-related strokes and infections. Six-month follow-up showed a 65% favorable outcome. Conversely, in 20 patients treated with endovascular coiling, typically for ruptured aneurysms, hypertension, and smoking were prevalent risk factors, with fewer complications during hospitalization (average 4.2 days). At 6-month and 1-year follow-ups, complete occlusion rates were 85% and 80%, respectively, with some cases requiring further intervention due to incomplete occlusion. Conclusion: While endovascular coiling has revolutionized the management of intracranial aneurysms, surgical clipping remains a vital treatment option, offering superior outcomes in select cases, particularly those involving MCA aneurysms. A balanced approach, tailored to individual patient characteristics and institutional expertise, is essential to optimize treatment outcomes and minimize the risk of recurrence and re-rupture in this challenging patient population. This article presents an innovative asymmetric multilevel inverter (MLI) topology that outperforms conventional counterparts. The introduced topology presents a breakthrough in implementing power electronics control by maximizing specific levels while minimizing switching components. A cutting-edge control scheme for optimal operation of the cascaded half-bridge MLI is presented. The ant lion optimization (ALO) algorithm was implemented to optimize the switching control to reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) and improve power quality. For verification, the performance and effectiveness of the ALO technique are assessed by comparing its results to those obtained using the simplified sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SSPWM) technique, genetic algorithm (GA), and particle swarm optimization (PSO) in existing literature. Simulation results verified the efficacy of ALO in finding the optimal parameters. The suggested method showcases a remarkable reduction in the THD compared to SSPWM. The quality of the resulting waveform was enhanced, and both filter size and cost were significantly reduced. To meet stringent IEEE standards, an LC filter has been designed with minimal size and proper requirements. Experimental results validation of the suggested scheme, using a dSPACE R&D controller board unequivocally, confirmed its robustness and effectiveness. This groundbreaking study not only introduces a superior asymmetric MLI topology but also validates its exceptional performance through comprehensive analysis and experimentation. Empagliflozin (EMPA) is one of the sodium/glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors that has been recently approved for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type II. Recently, EMPA has shown protective effects in different neurological disorders, besides its antidiabetic activity. Kindling is a relevant model to study epilepsy and neuroplasticity. This study aimed to investigate the potential protective effects of EMPA (1 and 3 mg/kg orally) against convulsant effects induced by pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) using a modified window- (win-) PTZ kindling protocol. The biochemical dysfunction and hippocampal damage induced by PTZ were profoundly reversed by EMPA treatment in a dose-dependent manner, as evidenced by the significant increase in reduced glutathione (GSH) and decrease in malondialdehyde (MDA) hippocampal contents. Furthermore, EMPA counteracted PTZ-induced neuronal damage in the hippocampal region, as confirmed by histopathological examination of the hippocampal tissues. EMPA impaired astrocytosis and showed an antiapoptotic effect through a significant reduction of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and BCL2-Associated X Protein (BAX) expressions, respectively. Interestingly, EMPA exhibited an antiepileptic effect against PTZ-induced seizures through significantly reducing neuronal PAS domain Protein 4 (Npas4), cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) response element binding protein (CREB) hippocampal expressions, and enhancing the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)-tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) pathway, which are found to be involved in epileptogenesis, eventually leading to significant improvement of behavioral impairments induced by PTZ. Fabrication of heavy density mortar using aggregates reinforced with available solid inorganic chemical additives is of a great importance as a protective layer to mitigate radiations in nuclear facilities. The effect of lead oxide and borax decahydrate on the hydration kinetics was evaluated by determining setting time, leachability and compressive strength. To speed up the reaction, 0.5% calcium chloride was added to all formulations, and then the results were compared to their blank counterparts. Once, the optimal compositions were explored, another batch of mortar were designed to increase efficiency against radioactive sources with different photon energies. After 28 days, bulk density, linear attenuation coefficient, half-value layer, tenth-value layer, and mean-free path in the field of 137Cs and51Co were considered. Similarly, macroscopic effective removal cross-section was evaluated using radioactive source-239Pu-α-9Be. According to the previous literature, adding 0.2% PbO to cement is the optimal ratio without affecting hydration kinetics and phase composition. The study explored that, co-incorporation of PbO with 0.5% CaCl2 increases the ratio to 2.5%, while enhancing physico-mechanical and radiological characteristics against radioactive sources. Introduction: There remains uncertainty about whether transitioning to oral antibiotic therapy is appropriate for the management of children with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremic osteomyelitis. We compared clinical outcomes for children with MRSA osteomyelitis with associated bacteremia who were transitioned to discharge oral antibiotic therapy to those discharged on outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT). Methods: We performed a retrospective, multicenter, cohort study of children ≤ 18 years hospitalized with MRSA bacteremic osteomyelitis across four children's hospitals from 2007 to 2018 discharged on oral antibiotic therapy versus OPAT. The primary outcome was treatment failure within 6 months of discharge, defined as any of the following: diagnosis of chronic osteomyelitis, conversion from oral to IV antibiotic route, an operative procedure after the index hospitalization (abscess drainage, bone biopsy, arthrocentesis, or pathologic fracture) and/or recrudescence of MRSA bacteremia. Outcomes were analyzed in an inverse propensity score weighted (IPW) cohort. Results: A total of 106 cases of MRSA bacteremic osteomyelitis were included; 44 (42%) were discharged in the oral antibiotic therapy group and 62 (59%) patients were discharged in the OPAT group. In the IPW cohort, treatment failure within 6 months of discharge occurred in 3.4% of children in the discharge oral therapy group and 16.3% in the OPAT group (P = 0.03). The odds of 6-month composite treatment failure between discharge oral therapy and OPAT were 0.18 (95% CI 0.05–0.61). Conclusions: Discharge oral therapy was not associated with higher rates of treatment failure compared to OPAT for children with MRSA bacteremic osteomyelitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study introduces some novel soliton solutions and other analytic wave solutions for the highly dispersive perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation with generalized nonlocal laws and sextic-power law refractive index. This equation models the behavior of complex wave propagation. The improved modified extended tanh function governs the transmission of various solitons with different effects. New optical solitons are constructed as bright solitons, dark solitons, combo bright-dark solitons and singular solitons. Furthermore, exponential solutions, triangular solutions and rational wave solutions are shown. The findings conferred in this article show a crucial advancement in understanding the propagation of waves in non-linear media. The study also includes modulation instability analysis to examine the stability of the derived wave solutions, supplemented by graphical simulations that depict their distinctive features. Purpose: Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) describes a heterogeneous group of rare congenital conditions. Health-related quality of life (HRQL) may be reduced in AMC due to broadly heterogeneous physical impairments and participation limitations. This study described HRQL in children and youth with AMC, compared HRQL between child self- and parent-proxy reports, and identified factors associated with better/worse HRQL. Methods: Data on 205 children with AMC (age 8–21 years) from a North American AMC registry across eight hospital sites was used. HRQL was assessed cross-sectionally using the Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) and European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions-Youth-3 Levels (EQ-5D-Y-3 L) by self-report, parent proxy-report or both. Results: Mean child-reported PROMIS T-scores were significantly lower than the normal mean for the Upper Extremity (mean = 33.0) and Mobility (mean = 37.2) but in the normal range for Pain Interference (mean = 46.6) and Peer Relationships (mean = 51.7). A lot of problems in EQ-5D-Y-3 L was reported by 37% in Feeling Worried/ Sad/ Unhappy, 46% in Having Pain/Discomfort, 50% in Doing Usual Activities, 56% in Mobility, and 57% in Looking After Myself. Compared to child-report, parents reported significantly worse PROMIS T-scores and higher problems in EQ-5D domains. Wheelchair use, being small for gestational age, prolonged hospitalization after birth, increased number of orthopedic surgeries, and caregiver's stress were associated with lower HRQL scores. Conclusion: Findings indicate the importance of considering both the child's and parents' reports of HRQL, and to provide multimodal interventions that focus on the effect of childhood and parental characteristics to promote HRQL among children with AMC. Plain English summary: Our study describes health aspects of quality of life (HRQL) in a large sample of children with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC). Information on HRQL is crucial for clinicians treating AMC to improve treatment outcomes, and for individuals with AMC and their families to understand various aspects of life in AMC. Our results showed that most children with AMC have mild to moderate problems in mobility (e.g., getting around, walking), self-care (e.g., taking shower), and doing usual activities. We found that the parents tend to perceive worsened HRQL for the child with AMC. Our findings also showed that children who had low birthweight for gestational age, were hospitalized for prolonged periods as an infant, had multiple orthopedic surgeries, and use a wheelchair are more likely to have lower HRQL. Children who have a parent who expressed high caretaking stress tend to have lower mobility and physical functioning. Aloe vera (AV) gel extracted from fresh AV leaves was chosen in this study to evaluate its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic activities against cadmium (Cd) -induced liver injury. Forty Wistar male adult rats were equally divided into four groups. Group I (standard control) ingested with 2.5 ml/kg b.w. of physiological saline. Group II (Cd-intoxicated) received 3 mg/kg b.w./day of CdCl2 dissolved in saline. Group III (AV) received 200 mg/kg b.w./day of AV gel dissolved in saline. Group IV (Cd+AV) ingested with 200 mg/kg b.w./day of AV gel solution along with 3 mg/kg b.w. CdCl2. All groups were ingested orally by gavage for 3 consecutive weeks. Paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) and HSP70 were measured in serum. The deposited Cd level, nitric oxide content, lipid peroxidation, collagen-1 (COL-1), and metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) levels were all determined in liver tissue homogenates. Gene expression of NF-κB and IL-6, Bax, and Bcl2, as well as immunohistochemistry analysis of activated caspase-3, was performed. Results showed that ingestion of AV gel greatly relieved all oxidative stress due to Cd exposure, modulated the NF-κB, IL-6, Bax, and Bcl2 expression levels, and improved the apoptotic state. The optical and electrical characteristics of novel dome-shaped nanowires (NWs) are reported for energy harvesting applications. In order to show the superiority of the suggested design, a comparison is made with cylindrical and other tapered nanowires such as conical and horn-shaped NWs. A tapering parameter is introduced to control the NW geometry and its optical and electrical efficiency. Further, the different geometrical parameters are investigated using finite difference time domain to minimize the light reflection and maximize the absorption through the suggested designs. It is evident that the tapering parameter effectively can control the NW-tip geometry to achieve optimum light coupling. The dome-shaped NW design has a good light confinement with better absorption compared to the horn and conical NW structures. This is due to the supported MIE-based mode resonances over a broad wavelength range. Further, the top diameter of the dome-shaped NWs supports more guided modes with high intensity and better light coupling. Besides, the light reflections between the tapered NWs improve the light coupling with the NWs where the optical path length of low frequencies is increased with improved light absorption. Therefore, the reported design with tapering factor of 2.2 achieves an average absorption of 81% with an improvement of 9.5% over the absorption of the conical NWs SC. Further, photo-generated current density and optical efficiency of 37 mA/cm2 and 41% are obtained by the reprted design with an enhancement of 22% and 8.8% compared to conventional cylindrical and conical NWs, respectively. Further, the electrical efficiency is simulated using the finite element method considering the recombination effects. The power conversion efficiency of the dome-shaped array is equal to 15.96%, with an enhancement of 32% and 17.5% relative to cylindrical and conical NWs, respectively. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in children is challenging due to increased antibiotic resistance and decreased effectiveness of the current therapeutic choices, especially in developing countries. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety of triple therapy (TT), sequential therapy (ST), hybrid therapy (HT), concomitant therapy (CT), and ciprofloxacin-based triple therapy (CTT) as an empirical therapy for H. pylori eradication in children. In this randomized controlled trial, 200 children (aged between 3 and 16 years) with both positive rapid urease test and histopathology for H. pylori infection were included. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either TT, ST, HT, CT, or CTT. The eradication status was evaluated using a stool antigen test (SAT) 4 weeks after stoppage of antibiotic therapy and 2 weeks after stoppage of proton pump inhibitors. SAT was performed using an ELISA monoclonal antibody-based kit. The most common presenting symptom was epigastric pain (79%). The most common endoscopic findings were gastric antral erythema (98%) and antral nodularity (54.5%). All gastric biopsies showed superficial lamina propria infiltration with plasma cells and lymphocytes. Active gastritis with neutrophils infiltration was seen in 75% of the cases. Gastric atrophy and intestinal metaplasia were uncommon histopathological findings (8.5% and 1%, respectively). The eradication rates for TT, ST, HT, CT, and CTT were 70%, 77.5%, 80%, 85%, and 90%, respectively, with the latter achieving a statistically significant difference when compared with TT (p = 0.025). The rate of occurrence of adverse effects among different regimens was not statistically different. Conclusion: As an empirical treatment for children with H. pylori infection, CTT is safe and provides the highest eradication rate. HT, ST, and CT might not be superior to TT. For nanobeam resonators, it is of the utmost importance to have a solid understanding of how to tune the energy damping and thermal quality factor. The periods of thermal and mechanical relaxation are quite important when it comes to adjusting energy damping. Within the scope of this study, the novelty of this work is constructing an analytical thermal model to investigate the effects of the static pre-stress, as well as the thermal and mechanical relaxation periods, on a viscothermoelastic silicon nano resonator in the context of a hyperbolic two-temperature dual-phase-lag heat conduction model. Several factors, including the length scale, mechanical relaxation time, thermal relaxation times, static-pre-stress, and isothermal frequency, have been investigated concerning the thermal quality factor. It is possible to alter the length-scale parameters, as well as the static-pre-stress, thermal, and mechanical relaxation times, to achieve a significant increase in the thermal quality factor. PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) have received a lot of attention for their functions in cancer research. This class of short non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) has roles in genomic stability, chromatin remodeling, messenger RNA (mRNA) integrity, and genome structure. We summarized the mechanisms underlying the biogenesis and regulatory molecular functions of piRNAs. Among all piRNAs studied in cancer, this review offers a comprehensive analysis of the emerging roles of piR-823 in various types of cancer, including colorectal, gastric, liver, breast, and renal cancers, as well as multiple myeloma. piR-823 has emerged as a crucial modulator of various cancer hallmarks through regulating multiple pathways. Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) is considered one of the main and serious problems facing the electrical grid. It occurs due to three-phase symmetric faults and asymmetric faults such as a double line to ground fault that applies in this system. This paper applies Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) to improve the LVRT capability and dynamic performance of an electrical grid linked to a Photovoltaic (PV)/Wind hybrid system through grid disturbances. A hybrid power system containing a PV station that produces 1 MW and a wind farm from type Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) that produces 9 MW is connected to STATCOM with 48 pulses at PCC bus and energized load. It compensates reactive power to improve LVRT that occurred due to fault. The applied STATCOM controller adjusts the voltage of the PCC bus during an occuring fault on the grid by compensating reactive power. STATCOM is controlled by a Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) and is compared with STATCOM controlled by Artificial Intelligence Control (AIC)-based on Proportional—Integral Fuzzy Logic Control (PI FLC). The Lightning Attachment Procedure Optimization Algorithm (LAPO) optimization method is used to adjust the parameters of the PI controller to reduce error signals. A simulation model of the suggested hybrid power system has been performed using Matlab/Simulink. The simulation results of STATCOM proved powerful and the effectiveness of STATCOM with PI FLC in reducing voltage dip, compensating active power of wind and PV farm, protecting DC-link voltage of PV and wind from overvoltage and oscillation that happens at three-phase fault and double line to ground fault as compared with PID STATCOM in enhancement LVRT capability, and power quality. Integration of biological activities of the algal and bacterial communities enhances the bioremediation potency of aquaculture systems. The effects of nitrogen removal mediated by Ulva lactuca on the bacterial community structure and the abundance of nitrogen cycle functional genes were investigated using an integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) system mainly composed of sea cucumber (Stichopus japonicus), shrimp (Penaeus japonicus), and crab (Portunus trituberculatus). The experimental treatments were separated into two groups: control group (C: without U. lactuca) and algae treatment (A: with U. lactuca). Microbial diversity and abundance indexes, including the Sobs, Shannon, Ace, and Chao1 indexes, were higher in the U. lactuca treatment group in both water and sediment. Flavobacteriaceae and Rhodobacteraceae were the dominant families in both the U. lactuca and control treatment groups in October and November, respectively. In sediment, Bacillaceae was the dominant family in the U. lactuca treatment group throughout the experimental period, whereas Desulfocapsaceae was the dominant family in the control group in October and November. Moreover, the nitrogen cycle functional genes nifH, amoA, nxrB, norB, and nrfA were more abundant in the U. lactuca treatment group than in the control group. Results of water quality and its correlation with bacterial community were comprehensively investigated, revealing that U. lactuca influenced the bacterial community structure and nitrogen cycle by increasing DO in the IMTA system. In conclusion, U. lactuca co-cultured in an IMTA system could represent a novel approach for enhancing nitrogen removal, based on the interaction between the algal and bacterial communities. Background: Asthma patients with atopic tendencies often experience airway inflammation and structural changes. Common triggers for asthma exacerbations include exercise, specific foods, and respiratory viral infections. Acupuncture has been investigated as a possible treatment for asthma management, but the efficacy of specific acupuncture points remains uncertain. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of stimulating specific acupuncture points along combined visceral meridians on asthma exacerbations triggered by various factors. It also assessed improvements in quality of life, focusing on symptoms, daily activities, environmental influences, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using the Mini Asthma Questionnaire. Method: The study included 50 patients with chronic persistent asthma who were randomly assigned and categorized based on the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) guidelines for asthma control. Over 5 weeks, participants underwent 12 laser acupuncture (LA) sessions targeting acupuncture points on the lung, heart, conception vessel, spleen, and stomach meridians. A low-level laser (780 nm wavelength, 800 mW output) was used to deliver 9.6 J/cm2 per acupoint in continuous mode. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and 5 weeks post-treatment using the Mini Asthma Questionnaire, Asthma Control Test (ACT), and Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 s (FEV1). Results: Following 5 weeks of laser acupuncture sessions, there was a significant improvement in exercise tolerance (p < 0.001) and a marked reduction in asthma exacerbations triggered by viral infections and food allergies (p < 0.001). The overall Mini Asthma Questionnaire scores were significantly increased from 37.08 ± 10.14 at baseline to 72.60 ± 9.97 post-treatment (p < 0.001). Spirometry findings demonstrated a significant improvement in FEV1 (p > 0.005). Conclusion: Laser acupuncture targeting combined visceral meridians shows promise in enhancing exercise tolerance and reducing asthma exacerbations caused by viral infections and food allergies. In this paper, we investigate the highly dispersive perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with β -fractional derivatives, generalized nonlocal laws and sextic-power law refractive index. This equation is crucial for modeling complex phenomena in nonlinear optics, such as soliton formation, light pulse propagation in optical fibers, and light wave control, with potential applications in designing efficient optical communication devices. Furthermore, it provides a framework for understanding the intricate interactions between high dispersion, nonlocality, and complex nonlinearity, contributing to the development of new theories in wave physics. To accomplish this, we use the modified extended direct algebraic method. A variety of distinct traveling wave solutions are furnished. The obtained solutions comprise dark, bright, combo bright-dark and singular soliton solutions. Additionally, singular periodic solutions, rational and exponential solutions. Furthermore, graphical simulations are presented that highlight the distinctive characteristics of these solutions. Compared to Nofal et al. (Optik 228:166120, 2021), the proposed technique produced novel and diversified results. The results showcase the significant influence of fractional derivatives in shaping the characteristics of the soliton solutions, which is crucial for accurately modeling the dispersive and nonlocal effects in optical fibers. The extracted solutions confirmed the efficacy and strength of the current approach. The parameter constraints ensure the existence of the obtained soliton solutions. Because of the growing popularity of novel forms of narrative, such as flash fiction, this study aims at expanding the parameters of cognitive narratology to encompass the interpretation of these unnatural and anti-mimetic narratives which disrupt the narrative conventions relying on inventive techniques. It adopts cognitive narratology and insights form cognitive linguistics to analyze how the unconventional narrative structures of flash fiction are encoded and decoded. This study aimed to explore the effects of heat stress and black sand acute exposure on the erythron profile, hematological and antioxidant parameters, as well as histological and histochemical indices. Catfish were subjected to black sand nanoparticles (6.4 g of nanoparticles black sand per kg of diet), thermal stress (32 °C), and a combined treatment involving both stressors over a period of 15 days. Catfish exposed to black sand nanoparticles and heat stress singly and/or in combination showed significantly lower red blood cells (RBCs) count, hemoglobin (Hb), platelets, white blood cells (WBCs) count, large lymphocytes, small lymphocytes, and monocytes. Antioxidant indices decreased in black sand NPs and heat stress combination compared to other groups. Notably, the combination of black sand nanoparticles and heat stress led to a substantial increase in the percentages of both RBCs alterations and nuclear abnormalities. Histological examinations of the liver revealed various features, including intracellular bleeding, cytoplasmic vacuolation, tissue deterioration, hepatocyte pyknotic nuclei, nuclear displacement, shrinkage, and accumulation of melanomacrophage cells. In conclusion, the study underscores that the effects of black sand nanoparticles on erythron profile, hematological and antioxidant parameters, as well as histological and histochemical indices, become more pronounced under elevated temperatures indicating the potential for synergistic effects between pollution and climate change. Snappers (Lutjaniformes, Lutjanidae) are among the commonest world fish families. They play a vital ecological role as components of coral reef-associated ecosystems. Also, they are very commonly consumed fish. This work implied the application of DNA barcoding to identify some key lutjanids in international fish markets. Samples of Lutjanus ehrenbergii, L. kasmira, L. bohar, L. gibbus, L. argentimaculatus, and L. monostigma were obtained from Hurghada city fish market in the Red Sea, Egypt. Also, samples of L. malabaricus, L. ehrenbergii, and L. fulviflamma were collected from Doha City, Qatar fish markets. These samples were DNA barcoded through sequencing of their mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (COI) and 12SrDNA barcodes. The resulting DNA barcodes exhibited several cases of misidentification. This included L. gibbus which showed mixed identity with L. erythropterus; L. ehrenbergii with L. fulviflamma; L. malabaricus with L. erythropterus and L. sanguineus; and L. kasmira that was misidentified as L. quinquelineatus, L. rufolineatus, L. fulvus, L. boutton, and L. bengalensis. Moreover, the westernmost L. ehrenbergii showed a polyphyletic relationship with its conspecifics in the Indo-Pacific region. The first encompassed Egyptian, Qatari, and the Western Indian Ocean samples. The second encompassed references from Indo-Pacific countries. This discordant phylogenetic pattern referred to a possible cryptic lineage in L. ehrenbergii. Results of the current research supported the need for more extensive, morphogenetic-based authentication of different lutjanids in the Indian Ocean and its related environments. This article aimed to review the current literature on the impact of continuous shedding of the COVID-19 virus in infected patients in relation to disease outcome variables and viral dynamics. Electronic databases PubMed, Google Scholar, and MedlinePlus were searched using relevant keywords, restricting the selection to thirty-two peer-reviewed articles and four gray literatures from the WHO websites. Findings from this study showed that several variables such as sex, age, immune status, treatments, and vaccines were found to affect the outcomes associated with the COVID-19 virus shedding. Background: Both bone forearm fractures (BBFFs) are a common injury amongst the pediatric population. The main indications of surgical fixation are open, irreducible, or unstable fractures. The two most commonly used surgical techniques are closed or open reduction with intramedullary fixation (IMF) and open reduction with plate fixation (PF). The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine which fixation method is superior for BBFFs. Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and CENTRAL were searched to identify studies comparing IMF and PF. We extracted data on union rates, complications, early hardware removal rates, reoperation rates, and radiographic, clinical, and perioperative outcomes. Results: Sixteen studies were included in the analysis, with a total of 922 patients (539 IMF and 383 PF). Similar union rates were achieved by both fixation technique. IMF was associated with a higher incidence of symptomatic hardware, and early hardware removal. Better restoration of the radial bow was observed with the PF group, especially in older children and adolescents. The rate of excellent function was comparable between groups, whereas better cosmesis was reported with the IMF group. Despite shorter fluoroscopy time and immobilization time, PF demonstrated longer tourniquet time, operating time, and hospital stay compared to IMF. Conclusions: We found no significant difference between IMF and PF in terms of union rates and functional outcomes taking in consideration the merits and demerits of each technique. Furthermore, the review integrates discussions on both medical and agricultural applications of TMNPs, highlighting their multifunctional potential across diverse fields. This comprehensive perspective enhances our understanding of how TMNPs can address various challenges. Additionally, the review explores the synergistic effects among the different metals in TMNPs, providing insights into how these interactions can be harnessed to optimize their properties for specific applications. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of subsurface layers for infrastructure development using geophysical and geotechnical studies. Six seismic refraction and six 2D geoelectic profiles were conducted in the study area to analyze the geotechnical characteristics of the subsoil in order to assess its suitability for construction projects. According to the geophysical investigation, there are two main geoelectric strata, each with a different lithology and thickness. The first layer has high resistivity values of more than 200 (Ωm) and its thickness is between 3.5 and 6.3 m. The second layer's resistivity ranges from 0.3 to 200 (Ωm). The findings indicate that the near-surface area of the study site is composed of two layers in addition to the surface layer, which consists of semi-consolidated wadi fill deposits of gravel, sand, and silt with rock fragments. The first layer comprises fractured limestone with clay intercalation, followed by a second layer of marly limestone, which transitions into marl and clay. Both compressional (P) and shear (S) waves were detected and analyzed. The shallow seismic refraction technique indicates that the velocity waves (Vp) in the first and second layers range from 133 to 770 and 790 to 3100 m/s respectively. Various engineering parameters for the second layer were determined, including elastic moduli (bulk modulus, Poisson's ratio, rigidity modulus, and Young's modulus), competence scales (stress ratio, concentration index, material index and density gradient), and bearing capacity (ultimate and allowable). The average Poisson ratio for the first and second layers is 0.235. The ultimate bearing capacity (Qu) of the first layer ranges from 379.1 to 1031.2 gm/cm2 and between 1040.8 and 1548.5 gm/cm2 of the second layer. Allowable bearing capacity (Qall) for the first layer is between 126.4 and 343.7 gm/cm2, and for the second layer, it is between 346.9 and 516.2 gm/cm2. According to the geotechnical investigation's findings, the range of liquid limit (LL) values is between 41.20 and 86.30%, the range of plastic limit (PL) values is between 18 and 35.25%, the range of plasticity index (PI) values is between 14.17 and 51.45%, and the range of free swelling values is between 60 and 170%. However, the study identified high-risk areas in the study area. These zones are located in the first and second layers represented by strongly swelling clay layers and strongly fractured limestone, which will have a major impact on the road and buildings. Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at risk of developing conditions such as atherosclerosis and inflammation-induced anemia (AI) due to persistent inflammation. Ziltivekimab, an antibody targeting interleukin-6, is being studied for its potential to reduce inflammatory markers in these patients. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to August 20, 2023, and analyzed the data using RevMan 5.4 software. The study period spanned from February 18, 2023, to September 23, 2023. We assessed efficacy outcomes such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), serum amyloid A (SAA), and both high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), as well as safety outcomes, including adverse events (AEs) and infections. Pooled results were calculated using the random effects model and inverse variance method, with mean differences (MD) and risk ratios (RR) presented alongside 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: Our review included three RCTs with a total of 473 patients. Compared to the placebo group, patients treated with ziltivekimab showed significantly lower levels of hs-CRP, fibrinogen, and SAA (MD = − 51.64, 95% CI [− 73.73 to − 29.56], P < 0.00001; MD = − 48.23, 95% CI [− 61.73 to − 34.72], P < 0.00001; MD = − 26.34, 95% CI [− 38.63 to − 14.04], P < 0.0001, respectively). There was a notable increase in LDL and HDL levels (MD = 5.92, 95% CI [2.53 to 9.31], P = 0.0006, I2 = 0%; MD = − 5.73, 95% CI [3.75 to 7.71], P < 0.00001, I2 = 0%, respectively). No significant difference in AEs or infections was observed between the two groups. Meta-regression analysis indicated a significant linear relationship between the dose of ziltivekimab and its effect on hs-CRP levels. Conclusion: Ziltivekimab showed promise in significantly lowering inflammatory markers without a significant impact on AEs or infections, positioning it as a valuable treatment option for patients with chronic kidney disease CKD who are susceptible to inflammatory diseases, particularly atherosclerosis and autoimmune conditions. The use of microalgae as a feedstock in biofuel production is highly encouraging. The marine diatom in this study, Thalassiosira pseudonana, was used as a test organism to evaluate the impact of nitrogen or phosphorus limitation and sewage water on improving biodiesel production. The growth rate is more affected in cultures without phosphorus by 41.8% lower than in control and the highest dry weight estimated in control. The cellular dry weight significantly increased in cultures treated with mix1 and mix2 wastewater compared to the control cultures. Chlorophyll a content decreased in the absence of nitrogen and phosphorous and in sewage water cultures. Lipid content in algal cultures without nitrogen or phosphorus and in sewage water accumulated nearly twice as much lipid content in synthetic medium. T. pseudonana showed high FAME contents; the two most abundant fatty acids, stearic acid (C18:0) and palmitoleic acid (C16:1), in the algal extracts revealed that T. pseudonana was predominantly composed of these fatty acids. T. pseudonana grown in nitrogen or phosphorus-deficient conditions exhibited an extreme percentage of saturated fatty acids (SFAs) by 87.38% and 85.47%, respectively, of the total fatty acids (TFAs). More importantly, the low polyunsaturated fatty acid content in oils indicates a high cetane number, low iodine value, and low corrosion for biodiesel quality indicators. Producing biodiesel that closely meets worldwide biodiesel requirements (ASTM D6751 and EN 14214) is the goal of this work, which shows that growing T. pseudonana under nutrient limitations leads to algal metabolism in that direction. Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are prevalent emerging pollutants in the aquatic environment. The photocatalysis process has proven high efficiency in degrading PPCPs; however, the fate and repercussions of photocatalyst residuals are a major concern. To avoid that, we developed a composite from graphitic carbon nitride/tungsten doped with titanium dioxide (g-C3N4/W-TiO2) and loaded it on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes by the phase-inversion method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and other different analyses implied the successful synthesis of g-C3N4/W-TiO2 composite and coating on PVDF membranes. A Box–Behnken design (BBD) was used to optimize the operational parameters, including pH, g-C3N4 ratio in the composite, and initial SMZ concentration by the response surface methodology (RSM). The highest SMZ degradation percentage was 98.60% after 240 min of irradiation. Liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) along with suspect screening was used to identify the intermediate transformation products and propose the SMZ degradation pathway. The loss in membrane activity after five cycles of photocatalytic degradation was about 18%. Background: Although most pilocytic astrocytomas grow slowly, their progression in critical sites such as the brainstem or hypothalamus may prove fatal much more rapidly. Cystic progression may be more problematic than solid tumor. Patients with progressive cystic PAs located in eloquent deep areas of the brain are the best candidates for stereotactic radiosurgery. Objective: This retrospective case series aims to present the effective outcomes obtained from GKRS, targeting the mural nodules of symptomatic eloquently deep-seated cystic PAs in 9 consecutive patients treated at the IMC Gamma Knife Centre in Cairo, Egypt, between 2003 and 2021. Patient and methods: The median follow-up period was 84 months (range 24–240 months). The median treated mural nodule volume was 1.25 cm3 (range 0.32–1.97 cm3), treated with a median peripheral prescription dose of 12 Gy and a median maximum dose of 24 Gy. The median cyst volume in treated patients was 7.64cm3(range 1.66–40.6cm3). Results: At the last follow-up, 7 out of 9 patients (78%) achieved tumor control (marked reduction > 50% of the entire tumor volume in 6 patients and moderate tumor reduction < 50% in one patient) in addition to clinical improvement. The median time of confirmed tumor reduction was 18 months (range 12–32 months). Two patients reported progression of the treated tumor. The overall tumor control rates at 2, 5, and 7 years of follow-up were 88.9%, 78%, and 78%, respectively. Conclusion: The encouraging results of this series indicate that limiting the GKRS to the mural nodule of eloquently deep-seated cystic PAs may be a practical and effective pattern in the salvage of its treatment. Two simple, valid and green chromatographic based techniques are developed in the present work for first time to simultaneously analyze the recently approved combination of Aspirin (ASP) with the novel gastro-protective agent Vonoprazan (VON). First method is an HPLC-DAD "diode array detection", where separation was successful using C18 (250 × 4.6 mm) column with isocratic elution of phosphate buffer-pH 6.8 and acetonitrile in ratio of 63:37 with detection at 230 nm. Second method is an HPTLC method on HPTLC silica plates using ethyl acetate: ethanol (75%): ammonia (5:5:0.05 v/v) mobile phase followed by densitometric scanning at 230 nm. The methods were applied successfully for analysis of VON and ASP mixture in laboratory-prepared tablets and the methods were validated in regards to linearity, precision, accuracy and selectivity. The proposed methods are assessed for their greenness and whiteness as well using the "Analytical GREEnness Metric Approach", "Complementary Modified Green Analytical Procedure Index" and the new algorithm "RGB 12 model" (Red-Green-Blue) and proved the greenness and the sustainability of the methods in the routine assay of the newly marketed formulation. This paper presents NN_ILEACH, a novel neural network-based routing protocol designed to enhance the energy efficiency and longevity of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). By integrating the Energy Hole Removing Mechanism (EHORM) with a sophisticated neural network for cluster head selection, NN_ILEACH effectively addresses the energy depletion challenges associated with traditional protocols like LEACH and ILEACH. Our extensive simulations demonstrate that NN_ILEACH significantly outperforms these classical protocols. Specifically, NN_ILEACH extends the network lifetime to an impressive 11,361 rounds, compared to only 505 rounds achieved by LEACH under identical conditions—representing a more than 20-fold improvement. Additionally, NN_ILEACH achieves a 30% increase in throughput and a 25% enhancement in packet delivery ratio, while reducing overall energy consumption by 40%. These results underscore the protocol's potential to optimize energy usage and maintain network stability, paving the way for more resilient IoT systems in dynamic environments. Background: The KCNJ11 gene belongs to the potassium channel gene family. It has a major role in the secretion of insulin. Genetic variations in KCNJ11 are possibly responsible for the progression of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In this study, we investigated the possible correlation between KCNJ11 (rs5210) gene polymorphism and T2DM. Subjects and method: This study included 92 individuals divided into two groups. Group 1 included 46 type 2 diabetic patients. Group 2 (control group) included 46 healthy participants. A complete history was taken and a full physical examination was performed. Anthropometric data were measured. Laboratory investigations included fasting blood glucose (FBG), two hours post-prandial blood glucose (2HPPBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and fasting lipid profile. KCNJ11 (rs5210) single nucleotide polymorphism was detected by polymerase chain reaction restriction-fragment length polymorphism (PCR–RFLP). Results: Both AG and GG genotypes were associated with increased risk for T2DM (OR 5.2, 95% CI 1.32–20.5, P = 0.01 for AG; and OR 18.2, 95% CI 2.99–31.7, P = 0.002 for GG). Also, the frequency of the G allele was significantly higher in type 2 diabetic patients compared to healthy controls (50% versus 23.9%, respectively). The G allele of rs5210 in KCNJ11 contributed to an increased risk of T2DM (OR 3.18, 95% CI 1.31–7.75, P = 0.01). There was a statistically significant association between increased 2HPPBG and HbA1c levels and the carrier of AG and GG genotypes (P = 0.01 and 0.007, respectively). There was a statistically significant association between total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c), and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c) levels and the carrier of AG and GG genotypes (P < 0.001, 0.02, and 0.007, respectively). Regression analysis detected that body mass index (BMI), 2HPPBG, TC, triglycerides (TG), and the G allele of rs5210 in KCNJ11 gene showed a significant association with T2DM (P = 0.004, 0.042, 0.003, 0.006, and 0.01, respectively) while no association was observed with FBG, HbA1c, LDL-c or HDL-c (P = 0.099, 0.123, 0.522, and 0.765, respectively). Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and hydroxyapatite-based materials show promising potential in the healthcare sector due to their distinctive properties such as biocompatibility, antimicrobial efficacy, non-toxicity, and robust mechanical characteristics. This makes HAp materials play an important role in hindering infection spreading in healthcare provider institutions. This study assesses the antimicrobial efficacy of the developed hydroxyapatite-based composites incorporating copper, zinc, and silver nanoparticles. The synthesized HAp and its modified composite variants (Cu/HAp, Zn/HAp, and Ag/HAp) with varying ratios ranging from 0 to 15% (wt) were characterized using XRD, XPS, SEM, and TEM analyses. Furthermore, the antibacterial and antifungal properties of the synthesized HAp and HAp-based composites were evaluated. The antibacterial effectiveness of the HAp and its composites was evaluated using a modified disc diffusion test, where the resulting inhibition zones on the agar surface were observed. All the HAp and HAp-based composites (HAp, Cu/HAp, Zn/HAp, and Ag/HAp materials) elicited in the formation of inhibitory zones. The most substantial inhibition values were observed for the 5% Ag/HAp formulation, with values of 19.7 and 13.8, against E. coli and S. aureus, respectively. The 5% Ag/HAp concentration may strike an ideal balance, providing high antimicrobial activity without adverse effects on biocompatibility or material stability. These findings underscore the recommendation of the proposed HAp-based composites for infection control measures through their application on medical instruments, textiles, healthcare personnel attire, and patient garments. Background: Inflammatory bowel disease is characterized by chronic and relapsing inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, including two prominent forms: Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Determining diagnostic biomarkers for predicting disease activity and treatment response remains a challenging aspect. Aim of the work: The purpose of our research was to compare fecal CP and fecal MMP-9, two non-invasive biomarkers for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and to find out how fecal MMP-9 levels relate to disease activity by looking at how they relate to clinical, endoscopic, and histologic scores of disease activity. Patients and methods: This study was performed on 80 subjects divided into 3 groups: group A: 30 patients with Crohn's disease evidenced by endoscopy ileocolonoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, and tissue biopsy (15 patients with active disease and 15 patients in remission). Group B: 30 patients with ulcerative colitis disease evidenced by colonoscopy and tissue biopsy (15 patients with active disease and 15 patients in remission). Group C: 20 age-matched and sex-matched healthy controls. All participants underwent a thorough history review, comprehensive physical examination, complete laboratory tests, and C-reactive protein measurements. A quantitative enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the levels of fecal matrix metalloproteinase MMP 9 for both the patients and the controls. Ulcerative colitis was evaluated using the Mayo score, Montreal classification, and the Riley histological score. Additionally, Crohn's disease was assessed with the Crohn's Disease Activity Index, the Simple Endoscopic Score for Crohn's Disease, and the D'Haens histological score. Results: Comparing fecal MMP-9 with fecal calprotectin (FC), we found that fecal MMP-9 was superior to FC in differentiating active Crohn's disease from inactive Crohn's disease, although there was no significant difference between FC and MMP-9 (P-value = 0.561). However, in ulcerative colitis, FC was superior to MMP-9 in distinguishing active UC from inactive UC, but again, there was no significant difference between FC and MMP-9 (P-value = 0.0731).In both the ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease groups, fecal MMP-9 could discriminate between patients in remission and those with active disease. Fecal matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) was discovered to be a significant marker for assessing the clinical activity of both Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), with an AUC of 0.998 for CD and 0.991 for UC. Fecal MMP-9 demonstrated great sensitivity (93.33%), specificity (100%), positive predictive value (PPV) of 100%, and negative predictive value (NPV) of 93.7% (with a P-value < 0.001) using cutoff values of > 0.34 ng/mL for CD and > 0.36 ng/mL for UC. There was a strong positive correlation between fecal MMP-9 and endoscopic and clinical scores of disease activity. Conclusion: Fecal MMP-9 has emerged as a promising biomarker for evaluating the clinical activity of both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It demonstrated superior diagnostic performance compared to fecal calprotectin in distinguishing active from inactive disease, especially in Crohn's disease. Although fecal calprotectin outperformed MMP-9 in identifying active ulcerative colitis, the differences between the two markers were not statistically significant, suggesting that they may complement each other in clinical practice. Furthermore, fecal MMP-9 is capable of assessing the activity of endoscopically visible inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which could help reduce the need for invasive endoscopic procedures. Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a debilitating and time-consuming disease that can interfere with or impair typical daily life activities and social interactions. This study aims to identify and evaluate behavioral problems and cognitive dysfunction in children with CF. Methods and procedures: This study was carried out on a cohort of 40 children diagnosed with CF. Patients were assessed using a child behavior checklist (CBCL) and intelligence quotient (IQ) photograph test. The obtained results were compared with 40 matched controls. Results: The male population accounted for 62.5% of the patients included in the study. Patients with CF exhibited elevated somatic, anxious and aggressive behaviors relative to the control group with p values < 0.012, < 0.025, < 0.027 respectively. In addition; there was a statistically significant positive correlation between somatic problems with both age of the patients and disease duration (r value for age = 0.368; r value for duration = 0.468). Furthermore; there was positive correlation between anxious behavior with age of patients and disease duration (r value for age = 0.358; r value for duration = 0.351). Otherwise, patients had comparable IQs (median of 107.5) with those of the control group (median of 105) with p value = 0.544. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that CF has a substantial negative impact on the behavior of affected patients. However, it did not have an impact on the individual's level of intelligence. The positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) spectroscopy characteristics of ethylene-propylene-diene monomer rubber (EPDM) composites reinforced with treated wheat husk fibers (WHFs) were investigated for the first time. PAL spectroscopy is employed to study the free volume of polymers. The use of lignocellulosic materials as reinforcement in polymeric composites has gained attention due to their low cost, availability, and eco-friendliness. In this study, the impact of the loading concentration on the interfacial adhesion between the EPDM matrix and WHFs is quantified, along with the evaluation of swelling measurement and tensile properties. Additionally, the nanoscopic properties derived from PAL spectroscopy correlate with the composites' macroscopic properties. In addition, the dielectric properties of the investigated samples have been studied, and their conductivity has been calculated. To determine the conduction mechanism within these samples and how it is affected by the addition of WHF, the change in electrical conductivity with the frequency of the external electric field applied to the samples was studied, and from this, the conduction mechanism was determined, and the barrier height value was calculated. The experimental results provide insights into the relationship between the structure and properties of EPDM-WHF biocomposites, offering valuable knowledge for developing sustainable and high-performance materials. Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a valuable surgical method for limb lengthening and bone defect correction, but its lengthy consolidation phase presents challenges. The accordion technique (AT), involving compression and distraction of bone segments, has shown potential for enhancing healing. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the AT conducted at three different time points (distraction phase, early consolidation phase, or late consolidation phase) compared to conventional DO in a mouse osteotomy model. Healing was evaluated using in vivo microCT, histology, and computational modeling. Results showed that bridging frequency, BV, and callus tissue composition were similar between conventional DO and late consolidation AT. In contrast, distraction phase AT led to delayed healing at day 15 with a 72% reduction in BV compared to DO, but no significant differences by the endpoint. Early consolidation AT showed significantly impaired healing compared to DO, with only 29% of mice achieving bony bridging, and significantly reduced bone marrow area of the endpoint callus. In silico modeling was generally predictive of in vivo findings and suggested that application of the AT during early consolidation results in destruction of newly-formed vascular tissue. Plant probiotics are live microbial cells or cultures that support plant growth and control plant pathogens through different mechanisms. They have various effects on plants, including plant growth promotion through the production of indole acetic acid (IAA), biological control activity (BCA), and production of cellulase enzymes, thus inducing systemic resistance and increasing the availability of mineral elements. The present work aimed to study the potential of Achromobacter marplatensis and Bacillus velezensis as plant probiotics for the field cultivation of potatoes. In vitro studies have demonstrated the ability of selected probiotics to produce IAA and cellulase, as well as antimicrobial activity against two plant pathogens that infect Solanum tuberosum as Fusarium oxysporum and Ralstonia solanacearum under different conditions at a broad range of different temperatures and pH values. In vivo study of the effects of the probiotics A. marplatensis and B. velezensis on S. tuberosum plants grown in sandy clay loamy soil was detected after cultivation for 90 days. Probiotic isolates A. marplatensis and B. velezensis were able to tolerate ultraviolet radiation (UV) exposure for up to two hours, the dose response curve exhibited that the D10 values of A. marplatensis and B. velezensis were 28 and 16 respectively. In the case of loading both probiotics with broth, the shoot dry weight was increased significantly from 28 in the control to 50 g, shoot length increased from 24 to 45.7 cm, branches numbers increased from 40 to 70 branch, leaves number increased from 99 to 130 leaf, root dry weight increased from 9.3 to 12.9 g, root length increased from 24 to 35.7 cm, tuber weight increased from 15 to 37.0 g and tubers number increased from 9 to 24.4 tuber, the rot percentage was reduced to 0%. The addition of both probiotic isolates, either broth or wheat grains load separately has enhanced all the growth parameters; however, better results and increased production were in favor of adding probiotics with broth more than wheat. On the other hand, both probiotics showed a remarkable protective effect against potato pathogens separately and reduced the negative impact of the infection using them together. This study focuses on the role of low-quality calcined Fanja (FNJ) clay in enhancing the behavior of cured cement mortar (CM) and its resistivity to chloride and sulfuric acid attack. Ordinary Portland cement was replaced with different quantities (10%, 25%, 35%, and 50% by weight) of FNJ, which was calcined at different temperatures (620 °C, 760 °C, and 900 °C). After 28 days of curing, all the hardened mortars were immersed in 5% sulfuric acid for up to 12 weeks. Additionally, a rapid chloride permeability test was conducted on the 91-day cured CM and CM-FNJ samples to evaluate the affinity of calcined FNJs to retard the chloride diffusion into CM. The results showed that all samples containing FNJ900 showed better physical and mechanical properties than the control sample, while CM with NFJ760 recorded nearly similar performance as CM-NFJ900. In contrast, the CM-FNJ620 mixtures showed lower properties than those of other mixtures. In addition to the pozzolanic reactivity of the calcined clay, the presence of hematite in the calcined clay strongly contributed to increasing the mechanical properties of the hardened mortar through forming calcium ferrosilicate hydrate binding phase, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Moreover, the existence of hematite increased the resistivity of CM against sulfuric acid attack as it acts as a buffer for an acidic medium. Compared with CM-FNJ900, the CM-FNJ760 is recommended for use as it exhibited a higher strength activity index and comparable resistance to accelerated chloride diffusion and sulfuric acid accompanied by lower energy demand and lower CO2 emission, achieving the concept of 'sustainability'.
