Background: The safety and efficacy of robotic liver resection (RLR) for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have been reported worldwide. However, the exact role of RLR in HCC patients with liver cirrhosis is not sufficiently determined. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on consecutive patients with cirrhosis or non-cirrhosis who received RLR for HCC from 2018 to 2023. Data on patients' demographics and perioperative outcomes were collected and analyzed. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the risk factors of prolonged postoperative length of stay (LOS) and morbidity. Results: Of the 571 patients included, 364 (64%) had cirrhosis. Among the cirrhotic patients, 48 (13%) were classified as Child–Pugh B. After PSM, the cirrhosis and non-cirrhosis group (n = 183) had similar operative time, estimated blood loss, postoperative blood transfusion, LOS, overall morbidity (p > 0.05). In addition, the intraoperative and postoperative outcomes were similar between the two groups in the subgroup analyses of patients with tumor size ≥ 5 cm, major hepatectomy, and high/expert IWATE difficulty grade. However, patients with Child–Pugh B cirrhosis had longer LOS and more overall morbidity than that of Child–Pugh A. Child–Pugh B cirrhosis, ASA score > 2, longer operative time, and multiple tumors were risk factors of prolonged LOS or morbidity in patients with cirrhosis. Conclusion: The presence of Child–Pugh A cirrhosis didn't significantly influence the difficulty and perioperative outcomes of RLR for selected patients with HCC. Background: Many individuals consider nocturia a significant nuisance, leading to a reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL). However, there has been a lack of psychometrically sound patient-reported outcome measures to assess the impact of nocturia on patients in Chinese contexts. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Nocturia Quality of Life Module (ICIQ-NQOL) for use among primary care patients in Hong Kong, China. Additionally, it sought to investigate the mechanisms that link nocturia and sleep quality with HRQOL by employing moderated mediation analysis. Methods: The traditional Chinese version of the ICIQ-NQOL was developed through iterative translations, cognitive debriefing interviews, and panel reviews. The psychometric evaluation included assessments of factor structure, convergent validity, concurrent validity, known-group validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability and responsiveness. Study instruments included the ICIQ-NQOL, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and a modified Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-Short Form (IIQ-7). Results: A total of 419 primary care patients were recruited from general outpatient clinics, among whom 228 experiencing an average of two or more nocturia episodes per night over the past four weeks. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the two-factor structure of the ICIQ-NQOL. Concurrent validity was confirmed by moderate correlations between the IIQ-7 total score and the total score as well as two domain scores of the ICIQ-NQOL (r ranging from 0.43 to 0.49, all p < 0.001). The ICIQ-NQOL also had moderate correlations with the IPSS total symptom score (r ranging from 0.40 to 0.48, all p < 0.001). Convergent validity was supported by moderate correlations between the global PSQI score and the total score as well as two domain scores of the ICIQ-NQOL (r ranging from 0.42 to 0.52, all p < 0.001). Known-group comparisons showed that the ICIQ-NQOL could differentiate between patients with and without nocturia in terms of sleep/energy domain score (p < 0.001), bother/concern domain score (p < 0.001), and total score (p < 0.001), each demonstrating a moderate Cohen's d effect size. Item-total correlations corrected for overlap exceeded 0.4, and Cronbach's alpha coefficients were greater than 0.7. Test-retest reliability was confirmed with intraclass correlation coefficients exceeding 0.7 among patients reporting no change in their nocturia symptoms at a 2-week follow-up. Regarding responsiveness, the Cohen's d effect sizes for differences in domain and total scores between the baseline and 2-week follow-up assessments were greater than 0.3 among patients showing improvement in nocturia. Our moderated mediation analysis indicated that sleep quality significantly moderated the impact of nocturia on HRQOL, with a notably stronger indirect effect among females compared to males. Conclusions: The ICIQ-NQOL is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the HRQOL in primary care patients suffering from nocturia. Background: The efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients with impaired liver function (ILF) have not been sufficiently studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DOACs for stroke prevention in patients with AF and ILF. Method: This study was based on data from 15 centers in China, including 4,982 AF patients. The patients were divided into 2 subgroups based on their liver function status: patients with normal liver function (NLF)(n = 4213) and patients with ILF (n = 769). Logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the risk of total bleeding, major bleeding, thromboembolism, and all-cause deaths in AF patients with NLF and ILF after taking dabigatran or rivaroxaban, respectively. Results: Among AF patients treated with dabigatran or rivaroxaban, patients with ILF were associated with significantly higher major bleeding, compared with NLF patients (aOR: 4.797; 95% CI: 2.224–10.256; P < 0.001). In patients with NLF, dabigatran (n = 2011) had considerably lower risk of total bleeding than rivaroxaban (n = 2202) (aOR: 1.23; 95% CI: 1.002–1.513; P = 0.049). In patients with ILF, dabigatran (n = 321) significantly favored lower risks of major bleeding compared with rivaroxaban(n = 448) (aOR: 5.484; 95% CI: 1.508–35.269; P = 0.026). Conclusion: After using dabigatran or rivaroxaban, patients with ILF had remarkably increased risk of major bleeding compared with patients with NLF. In AF patients with NLF, dabigatran had the distinct strength of significantly reduced risk of total bleeding compared with rivaroxaban. Background: Endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD) is a safe and effective treatment for Crohn's disease (CD)-associated strictures. However, serial EBDs have rarely been reported. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of serial EBDs for treating CD-associated duodenal strictures compared with intermittent EBDs. Methods: Patients with CD-associated duodenal strictures who underwent EBD were recruited. The clinical data, stricture characteristics, number of EBDs, dilation diameter, complications, surgical interventions, and follow-up periods were recorded. Patients were divided into a serial dilation group and an intermittent dilation group to analyze the differences in safety and efficacy. Results: Forty-five patients with duodenal CD-associated strictures underwent a total of 139 dilations. A total of 23 patients in the serial dilation group underwent 72 dilations, for a median of 3 (range 3 ~ 4) dilations per patient, and 22 patients in the intermittent dilation group underwent 67 dilations, for a median of 3 (range 1 ~ 6) dilations per patient. Technical success was achieved in 97.84% (136/139) of the patients. During the follow-up period, three patients in the intermittent dilation group underwent surgery, and the total clinical efficacy was 93.33% (42/45). No difference in safety or short-term efficacy was noted between the two groups, but serial EBDs exhibited significantly greater clinical efficacy between 6 months and 2 years. No significant difference in recurrence-free survival was observed, but the median longest recurrence-free survival and recurrence-free survival after the last EBD in the serial dilation group were 693 days (range 298 ~ 1381) and 815 days (range 502 ~ 1235), respectively, which were significantly longer than the 415 days (range 35 ~ 1493) and 291 days (range 34 ~ 1493) in the intermittent dilation group (p = 0.013 and p = 0.000, respectively). At the last follow-up, the mean diameter of the duodenal lumen was 1.17 ± 0.07 cm in the serial dilation group, which was greater than the 1.11 ± 0.10 cm in the intermittent dilation group (p = 0.018). We also found that the Simple Endoscopic Score for Crohn's Disease was associated with an increased risk of surgical intervention (HR 2.377, 95% CI 1.125–5.020; p = 0.023) and recurrence at 6 months after the last EBD (HR 0.698, 95% CI 0.511–0.953; p = 0.024), as assessed by univariate analysis. Conclusions: Compared to the intermittent EBDs, serial EBDs for duodenal CD-associated strictures exhibit greater clinical efficacy within two years and could delay stricture recurrence. Objective: To investigate the risk factors for delayed postoperative bleeding after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in patients with gastric precancerous lesions and to construct a risk prediction model. Methods: This retrospective analysis included clinical data from patients with gastric precancerous lesions who underwent ESD at Wuhan University People's Hospital between November 2016 and June 2022. An XGBoost model was built to predict delayed bleeding after ESD using risk factors identified by univariable and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The model was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC), and SHapely Additive exPlanations (SHAP) analysis was used to interpret the model. Results: Seven factors were statistically associated with delayed postoperative bleeding in gastric precancerous lesions after ESD: age, low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia, hypertension, lesion size ≥ 40 mm, operative time ≥ 120 min, female, and nonuse of hemoclips. A risk prediction model was established. In the training cohort, the model achieved an AUC of 0.97 (0.96–0.98), a sensitivity of 0.90, a specificity of 0.94, and an F1 score of 0.91. In the validation cohort, the AUC was 0.94(0.90–0.98), with a sensitivity of 0.85, a specificity of 0.89, and an F1 score of 0.85. In the test cohort, the AUC was 0.94 (0.89–0.99), the sensitivity was 0.80, the specificity was 0.92, and the F1 score was 0.84, indicating strong predictive capability. Conclusion: In this study, an XGBoost prediction model for assessing the risk of delayed postoperative bleeding after ESD in patients with gastric precancerous lesions was developed and validated. Based on previous empirical evidences and theoretical framework, sleep problems and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI)/suicidal behavior may bidirectionally related to one another. However, this still needs to be examined through longitudinal research. Moreover, the mediating mechanisms accounting for their potential bidirectional relations have yet to be fully investigated. This study thus aimed to evaluate whether sleep problems and NSSI/suicidal behavior promoted each other directly or indirectly through the mediating roles of emotion regulation difficulties (ERD) and externalizing problems. A total of 1648 Chinese adolescents (48.12% boys; Mage = 13.69; SD = 0.82; Age range = 11–16 years old at T1) completed self-report measures on 3-time points across 1 year. Cross-lagged panel models were used to examine the focal longitudinal associations. Results revealed a predictive effect of sleep problems on NSSI and a positive bidirectional relation between sleep problems and suicidal behavior. Moreover, sleep problems exerted an indirect effect on NSSI through ERD, and vice versa. Additionally, both ERD and externalizing problems served as mediators in the pathway from suicidal behavior to sleep problems. This study disentangled the differential mediating roles of ERD and externalizing problems in the longitudinal associations between sleep problems and NSSI/suicidal behavior, which may help provide a more holistic theoretical framework through which to precisely identify key targets for early prevention and intervention of sleep problems and NSSI/suicidal behavior in adolescents. Background: To date, studies on the effects of preeclampsia on perinatal outcomes in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are comparatively few, and the results are inconsistent. Objective: This study aimed to explore the effects of preeclampsia on perinatal outcomes in women with GDM. Methods: This retrospective cohort study collected data of women with GDM whose babies were delivered in a Chinese hospital between July 2017 and June 2020. We divided eligible pregnant women with GDM into two groups based on whether they were diagnosed with preeclampsia: GDM with preeclampsia group and GDM without preeclampsia group. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the risks for perinatal outcomes which were used as the dependent variables. Results: We identified 7533 eligible women with GDM (245 in GDM with preeclampsia group and 7288 in GDM without preeclampsia group). After adjusting for covariates, preeclampsia was significantly associated with higher risks of fetal malformations (OR: 1.67, 95% CI: 1.08–2.57), fetal growth restriction (OR: 5.36, 95% CI: 2.91–9.88), cesarean section (OR: 2.48, 95% CI: 1.83–3.37), emergency cesarean section (OR: 2.32, 95% CI: 1.77–3.05), preterm birth (OR: 1.89, 95% CI: 1.27–2.81), low birth weight (LBW) (OR: 3.30, 95% CI: 2.16–5.05), small for gestational age (SGA) (OR: 3.05, 95% CI: 2.01–4.63) and neonatal hypoglycemia (OR: 1.77, 95% CI: 1.10–2.85). Conclusion: Women with GDM complicated with preeclampsia were at higher risks of fetal malformations, fetal growth restriction, cesarean section, emergency cesarean section, preterm birth, LBW, SGA and neonatal hypoglycemia. Summary: Fractures often cause irreversible harm in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). This study investigated the trajectory of bone mineral density (BMD) using group-based trajectory modeling and identified that BMD acts as an early-stage indicator of clinically significant bone fragility. The greater the early-stage BMD, the better the 4-year bone health outcome. Purpose: Most Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) children suffer bone loss after long-term glucocorticoid (GC) exposure, which induces scoliosis and fragility fractures. To assess the BMD progression pattern and individual medical risk markers for these phenotypes in young ambulatory boys with DMD, and provide evidence-based suggestions for clinical management of bone health. Methods: A retrospective longitudinal cohort study of 153 boys with DMD in West China Second University Hospital (2016–2023) was performed. Group-based trajectory modeling was used to study the BMD progression pattern, and potential predictors were further analyzed by logistic regression and survival analysis. Results: One hundred and fifty-three participants were included, 71 of which had more than 3 BMD records. Three BMD trajectories were identified. Baseline BMD and age-started GC and were independent predictors of trajectory attribution. The median survival time of the first observation of low BMD in GC-treated DMD boys was 5.32 (95% CI 4.05–6.59) years, and a significant difference was tested (P < 0.001) among the three trajectory groups. Conclusion: BMD may serve as a novel early indicating marker for monitoring bone fragility for DMD. We proposed a bone health risk stratification through BMD progression trajectory that allows us to adapt the osteoporosis warning sign in DMD from a fixed threshold approach to a more individualized strategy, where baseline BMD and age of glucocorticoid initiation can provide an earlier prediction of bone loss. Objective: To analyze the serious medication errors (MEs) on dabigatran, and their related factors, in order to avoid or reduce the occurrence of adverse events. Methods: Serious MEs related to dabigatran were extracted from the WHO global database of reported potential side effects of medicinal products (VigiBase) by using "Medication errors and other product use errors and issues" High Level Group Term (HLGT) of the international Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities (MedDRA). Well-documented reports, vigiGrade completeness score ≥ 0.80, or with an informative narrative were analyzed with a focus on the clinical features of the cases. The PCNE Classification for drug-related problems (DRP) was used to classify medication errors in our analysis of cases. Results: Until January 26, 2020, there were 453 cases with serious MEs related to dabigatran in VigiBase, and 113 were well-documented. Among these, 69 patients (61%) were hospitalized or had prolonged hospitalization, 16 (14%) had life-threatening events, and 12 (11%) died. The MEs occurred in the prescription phase in 77 cases, in administration in 35, and at the dispensing stage in one case. The MEs in prescription were related to a drug selection error in 44 cases (24 concerning contraindications and 20 drug interactions) and to dose error in 33 cases (17 with excessive dose; eight with insufficient frequency; four had an incorrect time; in three, the dose was too low; and in one, too frequent). The MEs in administration were medical-staff-related errors in five cases (three with wrong administration route, one administration omission, and one overdose), patient-related errors in 28 (14 insufficient dose or no administration, seven improper drug storage, four wrong administration method, and three over prescribed dose), and other errors in two (without efficacy monitoring). The dispensing error of a wrong drug strength occurred in a pharmacy. The main adverse events in the 113 patients were haemorrhage in 57 cases (50%) and ischemia in 29 cases (26%). Conclusion: Based on the analysis of reports in VigiBase, serious MEs related to dabigatran mainly occurred during prescription and administration. Although the incidence of MEs with clinical consequences in the use of dabigatran cannot be determined, attention should be paid to selection of the appropriate dose to a right patient in the prescription, and to patient compliance and storage in drug administration. Background: This study aimed to compare postoperative complications in patients with esophagogastric variceal bleeding (EVB) who underwent laparoscopic splenectomy combined with pericardial devascularization (LSPD) versus transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedures. Methods: A retrospective collection of medical records was conducted from January 2014 to May 2020 at Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The study included patients from the departments of trauma surgery, interventional radiology, and general surgery who were diagnosed with EVB caused by portal hypertension and treated with LSPD or TIPS. Follow-up data were obtained to assess the occurrence of postoperative complications in both groups. Results: A total of 201 patients were included in the study, with 104 cases in the LSPD group and 97 cases in the TIPS group. There was no significant difference in the 1-year and 3-year post-surgery survival rates between the TIPS and LSPD groups (P = 0.669, 0.066). The 3-year survival rate of Child–Pugh B patients in the LSPD group was higher than TIPS group (P = 0.041). The LSPD group also had a significantly higher rate of freedom from rebleeding at 3-year post-surgery compared to the TIPS group (P = 0.038). Stratified analysis showed no statistically significant difference in the rebleeding rate between the two groups. Furthermore, the LSPD group had a higher rate of freedom from overt hepatic encephalopathy at 1-year and 3-year post-surgery compared to the TIPS group (P = 0.007, < 0.001). The LSPD group also had a lower rate of severe complications at 3-year post-surgery compared to the TIPS group (P = 0.020). Conclusion: Compared to TIPS, LSPD does not increase the risk of mortality and rebleeding, while demonstrating fewer complications. Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) involves a very complex pathogenesis, and there is no neuro-specific marker for risk prediction. Neuron-specific enolase (NSE), a key enzyme in glycolysis, has a broad spectrum neurotrophic and neuroprotective effect on neurons, and also cause injury and inflammatory response of peripheral nerves. The relationship between neuron-specific enolase, highly sensitive c-reactive protein (hsCRP), and diabetic peripheral neuropathy remains unclear. We aimed to investigate whether elevated serum NSE and hsCRP levels increased the risk of DPN in patients with type 2 diabetes. Materials and methods: In this prospective nested case–control study, a total of 1072 eligible subjects with type 2 diabetes constituted the follow-up cohort. Demographic data and parameters including serum NSE and hsCRP were collected at baseline. Two neuropathy screening scales (MNSI and MDNS) were used to assess DPN during follow-up period. Nerve conduction studies were performed at the end of follow-up. Conditional logistic regression was used to inspect the risk factors of the incidence of DPN. Results: During an average follow-up period of 5.1 years, 176 subjects developed DPN. Serum NSE and hsCRP levels at baseline were significantly higher in DPN group than in matched non-DPN groups (p < 0.001). NSE was positively correlated with age and hsCRP (p < 0.001). The amplitude of sensory nerve action potential and compound muscle action potential of the lower extremity nerves were significantly decreased in the high tertile of NSE. After adjustment for matching and confusing factor, conditional logistic regression showed the risk of DPN in the high tertile of NSE level was still 3.176 times higher than that in the low tertile of NSE level (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Elevated serum NSE levels predicted the high incidence of DPN in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes for an average of 5.1 years, which may be associated with increased neuroinflammatory response caused by high NSE levels, but further studies are needed. Bipolar disorder (BD) is commonly comorbid with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). However, little is known about their relationship. This study aimed to assess the impact of comorbid PMS or PMDD on the clinical characteristics of BD. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 262 women with BD. PMS and PMDD were screened with the Premenstrual Symptoms Screening Tool (PSST). Symptomatic features were assessed with Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), and atypical features by the depressive episode section of SCID-I/P. The rates of PMS and PMDD among BD were 57.6% and 20.6% according to PSST. No significant difference in the rates of PMS and PMDD was found between BD I, BD II, and BD-NOS. Compared to BD patients without PMS or PMDD, patients with comorbid BD and PMS or PMDD were younger, more educated, had a higher risk of OCD, had an earlier age of onset, scored higher on HAMD-17 and its sub-scale of anxiety/somatization, cognitive deficit, psychomotor retardation, and were more likely to have increased appetite and leaden paralysis. In addition, patients with comorbid BD and PMDD were less likely to experience traumatic life events, more likely to have family history of mental disorders and have inflammatory or autoimmune disease, scored higher on HMAD-17, particularly in its sub-scale of anxiety/somatization, cognitive deficit, psychomotor retardation, and sleep disturbance. Compared with BD without PMS or PMDD, BD with PMS or PMDD might be a specific subtype of BD characterized with earlier onset age, heavier genetic load, increased symptom severity, and atypical features. This study tested the role of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)'s conversational expansion in mediating between mothers' descriptive language and children with ASD's conversational repair, and whether this mediation was moderated by the relative complexity of mother-child language. Videos of forty children with ASD engaging in various activities with their mothers were transcribed into language samples and then coded. Mediation analyses indicated that conversational expansion mediated the association between descriptive language and conversational repair. Moderated mediation analysis further indicated that the relative complexity of mother-child language moderated the relationship between descriptive language and conversational expansion, creating a conditional indirect effect. Background: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a leading cause of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) that predominantly affects the podocytes. While mutations in genes causing pediatric SRNS have enhanced our understanding of FSGS, the disease's etiology remains complex and poorly understood. Methods: Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed on a 9-year-old girl with SRNS associated with FSGS (SRNS–FSGS). We analyzed the expression of CRB2, slit diaphragm (SD)-associated proteins, and sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1PR1) in the proband and CRB2 knock-down podocytes. Results: In this study, we identified two novel compound heterozygous mutations in the Crumbs homolog 2 (CRB2) gene (c.2905delinsGCCACCTCGCGCTGGCTG, p.T969Afs*179 and c.3268C > G, p.R1090G) in a family with early-onset SRNS–FSGS. Our findings demonstrate that these CRB2 abnormalities were the underlying cause of SRNS–FSGS. CRB2 defects led to the dysfunction of podocyte SD-related proteins, including podocin, nephrin, and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), by reducing the phosphorylation level of S1PR1. Interestingly, the podocytic cytoskeleton remained unaffected, as demonstrated by normal expression and localization of synaptopodin. Our study also revealed a secondary decrease in CRB2 expression in idiopathic FSGS patients, indicating that CRB2 mutations may cause FSGS through a previously unknown mechanism involving SD-related proteins. Conclusions: Overall, our findings shed new light on the pathogenesis of SRNS–FSGS and revealed that the novel pathogenic mutations in CRB2 contribute to the development of FSGS through a previously unknown mechanism involving SD-related proteins. Background and objectives: Cumulative lipid profile burden is designed to dynamically measure lipid accumulation, and its effect on hypertension has been poorly studied. Our main purpose was to investigate the effect of cumulative lipid profile burden on the incidence of essential hypertension (EH) and to investigate whether cumulative lipid burden mediates the pathogenesis of the effects of diet and obesity on EH. Subjects and methods: A total of 1295 participants were included in the study, which started in 2017. The average follow-up time was 2.98 years. A total of 240 EH patients occurred during the follow-up period. Results: The HR (95% CI) of the highest quartile in cumulative Total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) burden were 1.747 (1.145 - 2.664), 1.502 (1.038 - 2.173), 0.615 (0.413 - 0.917) for incidence of EH respectively, compared to the respective reference groups. Participants with EH consumed more red meat and refined grains, and red meat was positively associated with cumulative TC burden. BMI and Waist-To-Height Ratio (WHtR) increased the incidence of EH, and obesity was positively correlated with cumulative TG burden. Mediating analysis showed that cumulative TG had a partial mediating effect in the causal relationship between obesity and EH, and Mendelian randomization (MR) also proved this result. Background: Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are increasingly recommended over warfarin in stroke prevention for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). However, there is an important evidence gap in choosing the most appropriate DOAC for Chinese patients in clinical practice. Methods: A multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) was adopted to build a scoring framework. Attributes and criteria were identified and determined by a scoping literature review, two rounds of Delphi surveys, and a consensus meeting. Weights of each attribute and criterion in the framework were determined using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Evidence was collected based on the domestic or at least Asian data. Scoring methods for each criterion were developed depended on their characteristics and determined with an expert consensus meeting. Comprehensive scores of each DOAC were calculated based on the utility scores of each criterion and their corresponding weights. Results: A total of 5 attributes, including safety, efficacy, costs/cost-effectiveness, suitability, and accessibility, were determined, and 16 criteria were under the 5 attributes. The safety and efficacy were ranked as the top two important attributes with the weights of 38.8% and 35.9%, respectively, while the suitability received the lowest weight of 7.9%. The comprehensive score for edoxaban was the highest (72.3), followed by dabigatran (49.7), rivaroxaban (37.9), and apixaban (35.8). Conclusions: This study provided a scoring framework developed for comprehensive evaluation of DOACs in China. The ranking of DOACs could help to support the decision-making in clinical practice. Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are at risk of micronutrient deficiencies, particularly during flares. Vitamin B6 is required for the proper development of brain, nerves, and many other parts of the body. However, limited studies are available to describe the prevalence, relevance and consequences of vitamin B6 deficiencies in IBD. We aim to estimate the prevalence of vitamin B6 deficiencies in Crohn's disease (CD) patients, to identify associated risk factors and to explore the alteration of intestinal microbiota related to vitamin B6 status. Methods: A total of 360 CD patients and 55 ulcerative colitis (UC) patients from Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital of Tongji University were included. Serum vitamin B6 concentrations were collected from the computerized laboratory data. The logistic regression was used for statistical analysis. Fecal-associated microbiota was also analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing in another 20 CD patients (10 of vitamin B6 normal, 10 of vitamin B6 deficiency). Results: The prevalence of vitamin B6 abnormality was significantly higher in CD than in UC patients. Logistic regression analysis showed that small bowel lesion, ileocolonic lesion (L3), extraintestinal manifestations, ileal resection, and usage of immunosuppressor were independently associated with abnormal vitamin B6 in CD. Interestingly, the microbial structure presented significant differences between two CD groups. PICRUSt2 prediction revealed that some enzymes and metabolic pathways between the two groups were significantly different. Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of lymphoma in adults with high heterogeneity. Recent studies have manifested that the occurrence and development of DLBCL is related to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. As a medium-to-high prevalence area of HBV infection in China, the importance and exact mechanism of HBV infection in the occurrence of DLBCL have attracted considerable attention. HBV-associated DLBCL has unique clinical characteristics, poor treatment effect and inferior prognosis. HBV reactivation caused by DLBCL treatment also needs for constant vigilance. In this review we summarize the current research progress in the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical characteristics, HBV reactivation and antiviral therapies of HBV-associated DLBCL, in order to provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Background: Sleep disorders are a common syndrome and could affect the life quality of the older adults. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the association between nutritional status and sleep quality in the Chinese community-dwelling older adults. Methods: A total of 2,878 participants ≥ 65 years old from the Yiwu Elderly Cohort were included in the study. Nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short Form (MNA-SF). Participants were categorized as subjects with malnutrition, at risk of malnutrition or well-nourished based on their MNA-SF score. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to identify sleep disorders. PSQI score ≥ 6 was categorized as poor sleep quality. Results: Among the 2,878 participants (mean age 72.71 ± 5.79 years, 50.3% men), 31.5% (n = 906) were classified as having sleep disorders, and 25.5% were identified as malnutrition or at risk of malnutrition. We found a significantly relationship between nutritional status and sleep quality in older adults, and the results showed well-nourished decreased the risk of sleep disorders (OR = 0.32, 95% CI = 0.13, 0.75). And well-nourished status was significantly associated with less daytime dysfunction, adequate sleep duration, and good subjective sleep quality (all P < 0.05). Conclusion: There was a close association of nutritional status and sleep quality in older adults. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a pervasive neurodevelopmental disorder that brings heavy burdens to families and the society. This case-control study explored risk factors for ASD based on 74,252 children aged 3–12 years who were recruited from general education kindergartens, primary schools, and special education schools in Shanghai, China. One hundred ninety-two children were identified with ASD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders—Fifth Edition. Male sex, the presence of anoxia or asphyxia at birth, artificial feeding, adverse maternal psychological status, complications during pregnancy and higher paternal education were associated with ASD even after controlling for age, residential district, family history of mental disorders, parental personality, and amount of daily TV viewing. Objective: To evaluate whether electroacupuncture (EA) would improve gastrointestinal function and clinical prognosis in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) complicocted by acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI). Methods: This multicenter, single-blind trial included patients with TBI and AGI admitted to 5 Chinese hospitals from September 2018 to December 2019. A total of 500 patients were randomized to the control or acupuncture groups using a random number table, 250 cases in each group. Patients in the control group received conventional treatment, including mannitol, nutritional support, epilepsy and infection prevention, and maintenance of water, electrolytes, and acid-base balance. While patients in the acupuncture group received EA intervention at bilateral Zusanli (ST 36), Shangjuxu (ST 37), Xiajuxu (ST 39), Tianshu (ST 25), and Zhongwan (RN 12) acupoints in addition to the conventional treatment, 30 min per time, twice daily, for 7 d. The primary endpoint was 28-d mortality. The secondary endpoints were serum levels of D-lactic acid (D-lac), diamine oxidase (DAO), lipopolysaccharide (LPS), motilin (MTL) and gastrin (GAS), intra-abdominal pressure (IAP), bowel sounds, abdominal circumference, AGI grade, scores of gastrointestinal failure (GIF), Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II), Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA), and Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), mechanical ventilation time, intense care unit (ICU) stay, and the incidence of hospital-acquired pneumonia. Results: The 28-d mortality in the acupuncture group was lower than that in the control group (22.80% vs. 33.20%, P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the acupuncture group at 7 d showed lower GIF, APACHE II, SOFA, MODS scores, D-lac, DAO, LPS, IAP, and abdominal circumference and higher GCS score, MTL, GAS, and bowel sound frequency (all P<0.05). In addition, the above indices showed simillar changes at 7 d compared with days 1 and 3 (all P<0.05) in the EA group. Background: Trauma patients are at high risk of Venous thromboembolism (VTE), but compared to well-established deep venous thrombosis (DVT), data specifically evaluating post-traumatic pulmonary embolism (PE) are scarce. The aim of this study is to assess whether PE represents a distinct clinical entity with injury pattern, risk factors, and prophylaxis strategy different from DVT, among severe poly-trauma patients. Patients and methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients admitted to our level I trauma center from January 2011 to December 2021 who were diagnosed with severe multiple traumatic injuries and identified thromboembolic events among them. We regarded four groups as None (without thromboembolic events), DVT only, PE only, and PE with DVT. Demographics, injury characteristics, clinical outcomes, and treatments were collected and analyzed in individual groups. Patients were also classified according to the occurring time of PE, and indicative symptoms and radiological findings were compared between early PE (≤ 3 days) and late PE (> 3 days). Logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore independent risk factors for different VTE patterns. Results: Among 3498 selected severe multiple traumatic patients, there were 398 episodes of DVT only, 19 of PE only, and 63 of PE with DVT. Injury variables associated with PE only included shock on admission and severe chest trauma. Severe pelvic fracture and mechanical ventilator days (MVD) ≥ 3 were the independent risk factors for PE with DVT. There were no significant differences in the indicative symptoms and location of pulmonary thrombi between the early and late PE groups. Obesity and severe lower extremity injury might have an impact on the incidence of early PE, while patients with a severe head injury and higher ISS are particularly at risk for developing late PE. Conclusion: Occurring early, lacking association with DVT, and possessing distinct risk factors warrant PE in severe poly-trauma patients special attention, especially for its prophylaxis strategy. Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have risk of cardiovascular complications if blood glucose, blood lipids, and blood pressure (BP) are not optimally controlled. National Metabolic Management Center (MMC) has established a new management model to improve metabolic control. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the level of metabolic control in T2DM patients under MMC and explore the relationship between clinical follow-up frequency and target-reaching rate of HbA1c, LDL-C, and BP. Method: This was a retrospective study. Baseline measurements and follow-up data were collected from September 2017 to November 2019. The subjects were grouped according to the follow-up frequency as <4 times/year, =4 times/year, and >4 times/year. Results: The positive changes in HbA1c and LDL-C were associated with follow-up frequency. After adjusting for confounders, the target-reaching rate of HbA1c for patients with follow-up ≥4 times/year was higher than those with <4 times/year, with odds ratios of 1.518 (=4 times/year) and 1.508 (>4 times/year). Compared to patients with follow-up <4 times/year, the target-reaching rate of LDL-C for patients with follow-up ≥4 times/year was higher, with odds ratios of 1.998 (=4 times/year) and 2.517 (>4 times/year). After 1 year of management, 48.91%, 47.43%, and 56.72% of patients achieved the target goals, respectively. 12.88% patients met all three targets. Conclusion: MMC improves the target-reaching rate of HbA1c, BP, and LDL-C for T2DM patients in China. Compared with follow-up <4 times/year, follow-up 4 times/year has the maximum benefit of metabolic control in patients while >4 times/year was found no additional benefits than 4 times/year. Objective: To investigate the factors related to renal impairment in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) from the perspective of integrated Chinese and Western medicine. Methods: Totally 492 patients with DKD in 8 Chinese hospitals from October 2017 to July 2019 were included. According to Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) staging guidelines, patients were divided into a chronic kidney disease (CKD) 1–3 group and a CKD 4–5 group. Clinical data were collected, and logistic regression was used to analyze the factors related to different CKD stages in DKD patients. Results: Demographically, male was a factor related to increased CKD staging in patients with DKD (OR=3.100, P=0.002). In clinical characteristics, course of diabetes >60 months (OR=3.562, P=0.010), anemia (OR=4.176, P<0.001), hyperuricemia (OR=3.352, P<0.001), massive albuminuria (OR=4.058, P=0.002), atherosclerosis (OR=2.153, P=0.007) and blood deficiency syndrome (OR=1.945, P=0.020) were factors related to increased CKD staging in patients with DKD. The morbidity of skin tumors (ST) in China is a great concern as the population ages. No epidemiological survey on ST in elderly communities in China has been reported. A questionnaire survey was conducted among the residents over 60 years old in a community in Shanghai, China from May 1, 2011 to November 30, 2011. The prevalence of cutaneous tumors and associated factors were analyzed. Among 2038 valid cases, a total of 78 (3.8%, 95% CI 3.0–4.7) skin cancers (SC) were confirmed. According to the final multivariate regression analysis, age, gender and previous occupation were the significantly influential factors for SC. Actinic keratosis (AK) accounted for the largest proportion (63, 3.1%) in SC. The head and neck was the physiological site with the highest incidence of SC (64, 82.1%), and AK was the most common (55, 87.3%) in head and neck SC. The common concomitant diseases of SC were hypertension (26, 33.3%) and diabetes mellitus (9, 11.5%). Seborrheic keratosis (SK) was the most common benign skin tumor with a prevalence of 100%. Men and women developed SK in significantly different parts of the body (P < 0.0001). The incidence of ST in the elderly population in Shanghai community increased with age. ST preferred to occur in the head and neck, which might be attributed to excessive ultraviolet (UV) exposure in these areas. Skin erosion is a common skin-related complication in patients underwent deep brain stimulation. Traditionally, treatment of these skin-related complications has required removal of the entire deep brain stimulation system, which may cause considerable consequences. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of pedicled omental transposition in the treatment of recurrent skin erosion following deep brain stimulation. This study was conducted on patients with recurrent skin erosion following deep brain stimulation, between August 2019 and August 2021 at Shanghai Ruijin Hospital. The patients were grouped into the pedicled omental transposition group (OT group) and the routine group based on the surgical methods, for comparison of surgical outcomes. The study included 9 patients (5 in the OT group and 4 in the routine group). Four patients in the OT group were asymptomatic throughout 6–11 months of follow-up. All 4 patients in the routine group received hardware removal because of severe wound re-erosion within 4 months after discharge. The OT group exhibited significantly lower recurrence and explanation rates at 6 months after discharge (p < 0.05). No adverse events were observed. Our study showed that recurrent skin erosion following deep brain stimulation can be effectively and safely treated with pedicled omental transposition. Background: Atherosclerosis is one of the most important global health hazards and air pollution (AP, PM2.5) has been implicated. In addition to traditional risk factors hyperhomocysteinemia (HC) has been recognized in many parts of China related to risk of stroke. Methods: To evaluate the impact of HC (homocysteine >14µmol/l) and PM2.5 air pollution on atherogenesis in modernizing China, we studied 756 asymptomatic Chinese in China from 1998–2007. PM2.5 exposure, HC, folate, and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C/T genotype were evaluated. Brachial flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) were measured by ultrasound. Locations were categorized as zones 1, 2 and 3, with increasing PM2.5 exposure. Results: HC was higher (19.4±13.1 and 27.1±25.1µmol/l) in high PM2.5-polluted zones 2 and 3 than in zone 1 (9.7±4.5µmol/l, p<0.0015). The top HC tertile was characterized by lower folate and vitamin B12, but a higher proportion of the MTHFR TT genotype, Metabolic Syndrome (MS) and PM2.5 level (p=0.0018). FMD was significantly lower (7.3±2.3%) and carotid IMT thicker (0.63±0.12mm) in the top HC tertile, compared with low HC tertile (8.4±2.5%, p<0.0001; 0.57±0.1mm, p<0.0001 respectively). Similar differences in FMD and IMT were seen in zones 2 and 3, compared with zone 1 (p<0.0001). On multivariate regression, HC was related to male gender (beta=0.106, p=0.021), MTHFR-TT (beta=0.935, p<0.0001), locations (beta=0.230, p<0.0001) and folate-MTHFR interaction (beta=−0.566, p<0.0001). FMD was related to age (beta= −0.221; p<0.0001), male gender (beta= −0.194, p=0.001) PM2.5 and location (beta=−0.285 to −0.303, p<0.0001). Carotid IMT was related to PM2.5 (beta=0.173, p<0.0001), HC (0.122, p=0.006) but not to MTHFR or location, independent of age, gender, MS, and LDL-C. No significant HC-PM2.5 interaction effect on FMD and IMT was observed. Conclusion: HC and PM2.5 pollution but not MTHFR genotype were both related to carotid IMT, independent of other traditional risk factors. There may be distinct conduct disorder (CD) etiologies and neural morphologies in adolescents with high callous unemotional (CU) traits versus low CU traits. Here, we employed surface-based morphometry methods to investigate morphological differences in adolescents diagnosed with CD [42 with high CU traits (CD-HCU) and 40 with low CU traits (CD-LCU)] and healthy controls (HCs, N = 115) in China. Whole-brain analyses revealed significantly increased cortical surface area (SA) in the left inferior temporal cortex and the right precuneus, but decreased SA in the left superior temporal cortex in the CD-LCU group, compared with the HC group. There were no significant cortical SA differences between the CD-HCU and the HC groups. Compared to the CD-HCU group, the CD-LCU group had a greater cortical thickness (CT) in the left rostral middle frontal cortex. Region-of-interest analyses revealed significant group differences in the right hippocampus, with CD-HCU group having lower right hippocampal volumes than HCs. We did not detect significant group differences in the amygdalar volume, however, the right amygdalar volume was found to be a significant moderator of the correlation between CU traits and the proactive aggression in CD patients. The present results suggested that the manifestations of CD differ between those with high CU traits versus low CU traits, and underscore the importance of sample characteristics in understanding the neural substrates of CD. Objectives: Changes in the oral cavity can reflect other changes throughout the body. This study aimed to investigate the association of dental caries with muscle mass, muscle strength, and sarcopenia, and also to describe the microbial diversity, composition, and community structure of severe dental caries and sarcopenia. Design: Cross-sectional study based on a Chinese population aged from 50 to 85 years. Setting: Communities from Lanxi City, Zhejiang Province, China. Participants: A total of 1,442 participants aged from 50 to 85 years from a general community (62.8% women; median age 61.0 [interquartile range: 55.0, 68.0]). Measurements: Dental caries was assessed by the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index. Sarcopenia was defined as the presence of both low muscle mass (assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scanning) and low muscle strength (assessed by handgrip strength). Multivariate logistic regression models were used to analyze the association of dental caries with muscle mass, muscle strength, and sarcopenia. Fecal samples underwent 16S rRNA profiling to evaluate the diversity and composition of the gut microbiota in patients with severe dental caries and/or sarcopenia. Results: In the fully adjusted logistic models, dental caries was positively associated with low muscle strength (DMFT ≥ 7: OR, 1.61; 95% CI, 1.25–2.06), and sarcopenia (DMFT ≥ 7: OR, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.01–2.26), but not low muscle mass. Severe dental caries was positively associated with higher alpha-diversity indices (richness, chao1, and ACE, all p < 0.05) and associated with beta-diversity based on Bray-Curtis distance (p = 0.006). The severe dental caries group and the sarcopenia group overlapped with 11 depleted and 13 enriched genera. Conclusion: Dental caries was positively associated with low muscle strength and sarcopenia but not muscle mass, and this association was more pronounced in male individuals. Significant differences were observed in gut microbiota composition both in severe dental caries and sarcopenia, and there was an overlap of the genera features. To explore the risk factors for allergic conjunctivitis (AC) in Chinese children. We recruited 176 children who suffered from AC and a control group comprising 131 normal subjects in southern China. Each participant completed a questionnaire and underwent multiple eye examinations and a skin prick test (SPT). The data of the questionnaire, the scores of the symptoms/signs and the results of the SPT were analysed. The rate of parental allergic history in the case group was much higher than that in the control group (P < 0.01). Compared with the control group, the case group was more likely to have other concomitant diseases (P < 0.01). The scores of ocular symptoms/signs had a significant correlation with the clinical duration of AC in the case group (P < 0.01). Objectives: Malnutrition is associated with increased incidence of heart failure (HF). Left ventricular (LV) remodeling is one of the most important processes in the occurrence and evolution of HF. However, the association between nutritional status and LV remodeling is not well known. The study aimed to investigate the association between malnutrition and LV remodeling. Design: The study was a retrospective observation study. Setting and Participants: We included patients from the registry of Cardiorenal Improvement study from January 2007 to December 2018 at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital. Measurements: The primary endpoint was LV remodeling, defined as an absolute decrease in LV ejection fraction ≥10% after discharge compared with baseline. Nutritional status was assessed by the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score. Eligible patients were divided into absent-mild malnutrition group (CONUT score ≤4) and moderate-severe malnutrition group (CONUT score >4). Univariable and multivariable logistic regression was performed to verify the association between malnutrition and left ventricular remodeling. Results: A total of 7,217 patients (mean age 61.3±10.5 years, 71.7% male) were included in the final analysis, among which 712 (9.9%) had LV remodeling. The incidence of LV remodeling in moderate-severe malnutrition group was significantly higher than that in absent-mild malnutrition group (12.9% vs. 9.5%, p=0.002). In multivariable logistic regression, moderate-severe malnutrition group was significantly associated with 1.69-fold increased risk of LV remodeling after adjusting confounders (OR: 1.69, CI: 1.32–2.16). Similar results were observed in subgroup stratified by age, gender, and coronary artery disease. Conclusion: Nearly one eighth of patients were classified as moderate-severe malnutrition, 12% of whom had LV remodeling. Moderate-severe malnutrition was associated with 69% increased risk of LV remodeling. Objectives: There is little evidence on the association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and disability trajectories among middle-aged and older adults. This study aimed to investigate the association between ACEs and activities of daily living (ADL) trajectories over eight years of follow-up and the mediation role of different chronic diseases on this relationship. Design: Prospective cohort study, eight-year follow-up. Setting: China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS). Participants: A total of 10651 participants age 45 and over from CHARLS 2011 to 2018 were included in this study. Measurements: Five ACEs exposure groups were formed based on the cumulative ACE scores. A 6-item ADL score was used, including bathing, dressing, eating, getting in/out of bed, using the toilet, and controlling urination, to measure the ADL disability, and the group-based trajectory model (GBTM) was used to identify the ADL disability trajectories. Multinomial logistic regression was performed to investigate the association between ACEs and ADL disability trajectory memberships, and KHB-method was used to estimate the contribution of different chronic diseases on this relationship. Results: Of the 10651 participants, 9.64% showed a mild-increasing trajectory in terms of change in ADL score during follow-up, followed by the low-mild trajectory (32.00%) and low-low trajectory (58.36%). Compared with those without ACEs exposure, participants who had ≥4 ACEs were associated with an increased risk of being on low-mild trajectory (OR 1.32, 95%CI:1.11–1.57) and mild-increasing trajectory (OR 1.41, 95%CI: 1.06–1.89), respectively. Besides, mediation analysis revealed chronic diseases had a mediation effect in this association, with the largest effect from arthritis or rheumatism (over 60%), followed by digestive system disease (around 14%), respiratory disease (around 12%), and cardio-metabolic disease (around 5%). Conclusion: This study suggested that exposure to ACEs was associated with a higher risk of being worse ADL disability trajectories. Moreover, chronic disease accounts for a meaningful proportion of this association. Background: Although many reports have shown that preoperative dementia affects surgical prognosis, it is unclear whether the dementia based on Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) affect hospital mortality in old old patients undergoing elective gastrointestinal surgery. Aims: This study aims to investigate whether preoperative dementia might affect the outcomes of old old patients undergoing elective gastrointestinal surgery by evaluating with the MMSE. Methods: All patients aged ≥ 75 years who undergoing elective gastrointestinal surgery form January 2015 to December 2021 in a Chinese tertiary hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Their preoperative cognitive status was evaluated using the MMSE, and analysis was performed to compare the patients with MMSE score < 24 (dementia group) or MMSE score 24–30 (non-dementia group). Risk factors for hospital mortality were explored using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: 980 patients were rolled in the study, and 102 (10.4%) patients were in the dementia group. ICU and hospital stay were longer in the dementia group. Regarding the postoperative complications, the incidence of cerebral infarction (P = 0.014), delirium (P = 0.019), and pulmonary infection (P = 0.017) was more frequent in dementia group. Hospital mortality was 11% in the dementia group and 3% in the non-dementia group (P = 0.009). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that dementia (P = 0.0135), preoperative lower albumin (P = 0.0018) and malignancy (P = 0.0212) were independent risk factors for hospital mortality. Conclusions: Among old old patients undergoing elective gastrointestinal surgery, hospital mortality was increased significantly for patients with dementia evaluating with the MMSE. Background: Falls are major health care concerns for older adults. Pain is associated with increased falls in older adults. However, the impact of pain on functional disability and how this might predispose Chinese older adults to fall is unclear. Aim: The aim of the current study was to examine whether functional disability mediates the association of any pain, back and/or shoulder pain (B–S pain) and leg and/or knees pain (L–K pain) with falls and serious falls. Methods: The study included 7619 community-dwelling older adults aged 60 years and above from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. Baseline data were from Wave 3 and fall outcomes were from Wave 4. Functional disability was measured by the ADLs and IADLs scales. We used a logistic regression model to investigate associations between pain and fall outcomes and KHB method to estimate the mediating effects of ADL/IADL disability on pain–fall relationship. Results: After fully adjusting for covariates, the three pain measures (any pain, back and/or shoulder pain, leg and/or knees pain) were significantly associated with fall outcomes. When body pain was compared with no body pain, the proportion mediated by the ADL disability was 28.43% for falls, while the proportion mediated by IADL disability was 17.96% for falls. For associations between specific parts of body pain and falls, the proportions mediated by the ADL disability were 34.18% and 35.89% in back and/or shoulder pain and leg and/or knees pain, respectively, but the proportions reduced to 21.98% and 20.82% when mediated by the IADL disability. However, there were no significant contributions of ADL/IADL disability for the association between specific part of body pain and serious falls. Conclusions: Pain in general and pain in specific body sites were significantly associated with an increased risk of fall among older adults living in community in China. Aim: Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is neurophilic, and its relationship with Alzheimer's disease (AD) remains controversial. This study aimed to examine the relationships between HHV-6 and cognitive abilities in elderly people aged 60 years or above from communities in Shenzhen. Methods: We recruited participants from 10 community health service centers in Shenzhen. Participants were divided into case and control groups according to Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scale standards and were included in this study with 1:1 matching based on sex and age (± 3 years). The HHV-6 gene was detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR, and the HHV-6 copy number was quantified. Results: A total of 580 participants (cases, n = 290; controls, n = 290), matched for gender and age was included in this study. A positive HHV-6 test was not associated with a significant difference in global cognitive performance (ORadjusted = 1.651, 95% CI = 0.671–4.062). After adjusting for gender, age, education, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score, homocysteine (Hcy) and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), the results of multiple linear regression showed that there was a statistically negative correlation between HHV-6 copy number and orientation (βadjusted = −0.974, p = 0.013), attention and calculation (βadjusted = −1.840, p < 0.001), and language (βadjusted = −2.267, p < 0.001). The restricted cubic spline (RCS) model results showed that there was a nonlinear dose–response relationship between HHV-6 log10-transformed copies and orientation (poverall = 0.003, pnonliner = 0.045), attention and calculation (poverall < 0.001, pnonliner < 0.001), and language (poverall < 0.001, pnonliner = 0.016). Summary: The widely recommended fracture prediction tool FRAX was developed based on and for the general population. Although several adjusted FRAX methods were suggested for type 2 diabetes (T2DM), they still need to be evaluated in T2DM cohort. Introduction: This study was undertaken to develop a prediction model for Chinese diabetes fracture risk (CDFR) and compare its performance with those of FRAX. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 1730 patients with T2DM were enrolled from 2009.08 to 2013.07. Major osteoporotic fractures (MOFs) during follow-up were collected from Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and telephone interviews. Multivariate Cox regression with backward stepwise selection was used to fit the model. The performances of the CDFR model, FRAX, and adjusted FRAX were compared in the aspects of discrimination and calibration. Results: 6.3% of participants experienced MOF during a median follow-up of 10 years. The final model (CDFR) included 8 predictors: age, gender, previous fracture, insulin use, diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein A. This model had a C statistic of 0.803 (95%CI 0.761–0.844) and calibration χ2 of 4.63 (p = 0.86). The unadjusted FRAX underestimated the MOF risk (calibration χ2 134.5, p < 0.001; observed/predicted ratio 2.62, 95%CI 2.17–3.08), and there was still significant underestimation after diabetes adjustments. Comparing FRAX, the CDFR had a higher AUC, lower calibration χ2, and better reclassification of MOF. Conclusion: The CDFR model has good performance in 10-year MOF risk prediction in T2DM, especially in patients with insulin use or DPN. Summary: The association between peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and osteoporosis in elderly men with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unclear. We demonstrated the association between subclinical PAD and decreased total hip bone mineral density (BMD) in men aged ≥ 55 years with T2DM, providing clinical clues for the early detection of decreased bone density in total hip. Purpose: To investigate the association between subclinical peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and bone mineral density (BMD) at total hip, femoral neck, and lumbar spine (L1–4) in elderly men with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: We identified 2,466 patients with confirmed diabetes in this retrospective cross-sectional study. A total of 272 men aged ≥ 55 years with T2DM (50 with subclinical PAD and 222 without PAD) were analyzed. Partial correlation analysis was conducted to explore the associations between ankle-brachial index (ABI) and BMD. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the contributor for low bone density (T-score < − 1.0). Results: Patients with T2DM and subclinical PAD (ABI ≤ 0.9) had significantly lower total hip BMD and T-score (BMD, 0.87 ± 0.14 vs. 0.92 ± 0.15 g/cm2, P = 0.014; T-score, -1.30 [-1.70 to -0.45] vs. -0.80 [-1.40 to 0.00], P = 0.009) than those in the control group. The partial correlation analyses indicated that ABI significantly correlated with the total hip T-score (adjusted r = 0.166, P = 0.009). The logistic regression analysis indicated that subclinical PAD was an independent risk factor for the risk of decreased bone density in total hip (adjusted odds ratio [95% CI]: 8.933 [1.075–74.222], P = 0.043). Conclusion: Subclinical PAD (ABI ≤ 0.9) could be used as a risk factor for decreased total hip BMD in men aged ≥ 55 years with T2DM, which provides clinical clues for the early detection of low bone density in total hip in such populations. Purpose: Laparoscopic contralateral patent processus vaginalis (CPPV) repair in children is debatable due to the high CPPV rate, but low metachronous contralateral inguinal hernia (MCIH) rate. We conducted this study to find risk factors for MCIH.Method: We conducted a prospective, observational trial with patients recruited from Shanghai Children's Hospital. Eligible participants were patients under 16 years old with unilateral inguinal hernia whose parents did not opt for simultaneous CPPV repair. The subjects were followed for 24 to 34.1 months. Patients who developed MCIH were analyzed to identify the relationship between CPPV and MCIH.Results: Between October 17, 2018, and July 31, 2019, we included 184 patients and 182 completed follow-up. MCIH occurred in ten patients, of which 7 (7.53%) had CPPV and three (3.37%) had no CPPV. Univariate analysis showed that age (p = 0.025, OR = 0.938) and CPPV diameter (p = 0.003, OR = 1.783) were related to the development of MCIH. In multivariate analysis, only diameter of CPPV (p = 0.008, OR = 1.411) was associated with MCIH. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to test, and it was found that when the diameter of CPPV was greater than 4 mm, the Youden index was the highest, with a specificity of 62.8% and a sensitivity of 100%.Conclusion: The incidence of MCIH was not statistically higher in patients with CPPV compared with those without CPPV, so there is no indication for routine CPPV repair. The risk of MCIH development increases with CPPV diameter. 4 mm is the optimal cutoff point. Metabolic disturbance may be implicated in the pathogenesis of autism. This study aimed to investigate the gut metabolomic profiles of autistic children and to analyze potential interaction between gut metabolites with autistic symptoms and neurodevelopment levels. We involved 120 autistic and 60 neurotypical children. Autistic symptoms and neurodevelopment levels were assessed. Fecal samples were analyzed using untargeted liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry methods. Our results showed the metabolic disturbances of autistic children involved in multiple vitamin and amino acid metabolism pathways, with the strongest enrichment identified for tryptophan metabolism, retinol metabolism, cysteine-methionine metabolism, and vitamin digestion and absorption. Differential gut metabolites were correlated to autistic symptoms and neurodevelopment levels. Our findings improved the understanding of the perturbations of metabolome networks in autism. Objective: To delineate the onset and recurrence characteristics of noncardiogenic ischemic stroke patients in China. Methods: A prospective, multicenter and registry study was carried out in 2,558 patients at 7 representative clinical sub-centers during November 3, 2016 to February 17, 2019. A questionnaire was used to collect information of patients regarding CM syndromes and constitutions and associated risk factors. Additionally, stroke recurrence was defined as a primary outcome indicator. Results: A total of 327 (12.78 %) patients endured recurrence events, 1,681 (65.72%) were men, and the average age was 63.33 ± 9.45 years. Totally 1,741 (68.06%) patients suffered first-ever ischemic stroke, 1,772 (69.27%) patients reported to have hypertension, and 1,640 (64.11%) of them reported dyslipidemia, 1,595 (62.35%) patients exhibited small-artery occlusion by The Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) classification. Specifically, 1,271 (49.69%) patients were considered as qi-deficient constitution, and 1,227 (47.97%) patients were determined as stagnant blood constitution. There were 1,303 (50.94%) patients diagnosed as blood stasis syndrome, 1,280 (50.04%) patients exhibited phlegm and dampness syndrome and 1,012 (39.56%) patients demonstrated qi deficiency syndrome. And 1,033 (40.38%) patients declared intracranial artery stenosis, and 478 (18.69%) patients reported carotid artery stenosis. The plaque in 1,508 (41.36%) patients were of mixed. Particularly, 41.09% of them demonstrated abnormal levels of glycated hemoglobin levels. Conclusions: Recurrence in minor and small-artery stroke cannot be ignored. Hypertension, dyslipidemia, abnormal HbA1c, intracranial artery stenosis and carotid plaque were more common in stroke patients. Particularly, phlegm-dampness and blood stasis syndromes, as well as qi deficiency and blood stasis constitutions, were still the main manifestations of stroke. Objectives: To comprehensively evaluate the association between BMI and death risk in people aged 65 years and over in Shenzhen, China, and suggest the optimal range of body mass index (BMI) for the older adults. Design: A prospective cohort study. Setting: A population-based study of elderly adults in Shenzhen, China. Participants: 359044 Shenzhen Healthy Ageing Research participants aged 65 and over with 4682 deaths during a mean of 1.5 years of follow-up were included in this analysis. Measures: Hazard ratio of all-cause and cause specific mortality risks associated with BMI categories. The association between BMI and all-cause and cause specific mortality were independently estimated by Cox regression model. Results: Regardless of gender, BMI of 24–29.9 kg/m2 was a protective factor for death in all ages, while BMI above 30 kg/m2 was still a protective factor for older adults under 70 years old. Regardless of age, BMI at 24–25.9 kg/m2 was associated with lower mortality in men, while BMI at 26–27.9 kg/m2 was associated with lower mortality in women. For the older adults without chronic diseases, BMI at 24–25.9 kg/m2 was also significantly associated with lower mortality. In the analysis of BMI and cause of death, we also found that BMI of 24–25.9 kg/m2 was significantly associated with the lower mortality from cardiovascular disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and digestive system disease in China. Conclusion: BMI in the range of 24–25.9 kg/m2 may be protective for mortality in Chinese older adults. Objectives: Tooth loss, which usually leads to malnutrition, is common in the elderly. However, limited information is available regarding its association with sarcopenia. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between loss of occlusal pairs of tooth and sarcopenia. Design: A cross-sectional retrospective study was performed. Setting: The elderly who participated in the National Basic Public Health Project in the Maigaoqiao Community Medical Center in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China. Participants: A total of 2850 individuals aged ≥60 years were enrolled. Measurements: Sarcopenia was defined according to the criteria proposed by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. A trained dentist assessed oral health status and counted the number of present teeth. Logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association between the loss of occlusal pairs and sarcopenia. Results: The prevalence of sarcopenia was 7.1% (201/2850). Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that loss of occlusal pairs was associated with sarcopenia [anterior occlusal pairs (AOPs): odd ratio (OR) = 1.292, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.158–1.442; posterior occlusal pairs (POPs): OR = 1.147, 95% CI = 1.018–1.221]. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that loss of POPs was still an independent risk for sarcopenia (OR = 1.108, 95% CI = 1.007–1.220) after adjustment for traditional confounders. Subgroup analysis showed that loss of POPs was more significantly linked to sarcopenia in those with advanced age (≥80years) (OR = 1.307, 95% CI = 1.116–1.532) and in females (OR = 1.165, 95%CI = 1.038–1.308). Compared to individuals with ≥5 occluding pairs of POPs, those with <5 occluding pairs of POPs had a higher incidence of sarcopenia. Conclusions: Loss of POPs is associated with an increased risk of sarcopenia in the elderly in a Chinese population. Further research on the mechanism of the observed causal relationship is needed. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association and mediation pathways among muscle mass, muscle function (muscle strength and physical performance), and malnutrition with depressive symptoms clusters in the older hemodialysis patients. Design: A multi-center cross-sectional study. Setting and Participants: A total of 499 patients aged ≥ 60 on hemodialysis from seven facilities in Shanghai of China from 2020 to 2021. Measurements: Muscle mass was assessed by skeletal muscle index(SMI). Muscle strength was measured by handgrip strength, and physical performance was measured via gait speed and Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT). Nutritional status was assessed by Malnutrition Inflammation Score (MIS). Depressive symptoms were evaluated by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Logistic regression and mediation analyses fully adjusted for all potential confounding factors. Results: Among 499 participants (312 men, mean age 69.2±6.6 years), 108 (21.6%) had depressive symptoms. The muscle strength, physical performance and malnutrition were associated with depressive symptoms. Furthermore, malnutrition significantly mediated the association of muscle function with total, cognitive-affective symptoms. The association of the muscle function with somatic symptoms were mediated by the nutritional status. The mediated proportions of malnutrition in the relationship between physical performance and depressive symptoms clusters were stronger in somatic symptoms than in cognitive-affective symptoms. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that muscle function rather than muscle mass may contribute substantially to the development of depressive symptoms clusters in the hemodialysis via malnutrition. The malnutrition mediated stronger in the association of muscle function with somatic symptoms. Objective: To compare the clinical effects of interactive dynamic scalp acupuncture (IDSA), simple combination therapy (SCT), and traditional scalp acupuncture (TSA) on cognitive function, depression and anxiety in patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment. Methods: A total of 660 patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment who were admitted to 3 hospitals in Shenzhen City between May 2017 and May 2020 were recruited and randomly assigned to the IDSA (218 cases), SCT (222 cases) and TSA groups (220 cases) according to a random number table. All the patients received conventional drug therapy for cerebral stroke and exercise rehabilitation training. Scalp acupuncture and computer-based cognitive training (CBCT) were performed simultaneously in the IDSA group, but separately in the morning and in the afternoon in the SCT group. The patients in the TSA group underwent scalp acupuncture only. The course of treatment was 8 weeks. Before treatment (M0), 1 (M1) and 2 months (M2) after treatment, as well as follow-up at 1 (M3) and 2 months (M4), the cognitive function of patients was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MoCA) Scales; depression, anxiety, sleep quality, and self-care ability of patients were assessed using Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Modified Barthel Index (MBI), respectively. During this trial, all adverse events (AEs) were accurately recorded. Results: There were no significant differences in the MMSE, MoCA, HAMD, HAMA, PSQI, and MBI scores among the 3 groups at M0 (all P>0.05). In the IDSA group, the MMSE, MoCA and MBI scores from M2 to M4 were significantly higher than those in the SCT and TSA groups, while the HAMD, HAMA and PSQI scores were significantly reduced (all P<0.01). The changes of all above scores (M2-M0, M4-M0) were significantly superior to those in the SCT and TSA groups (all P<0.01, except M4-M0 of HAMD). At M2, the severity of MMSE, HAMD, HAMA, PSQI and MBI in the IDSA group was significantly lower than that in the SCT and TSA groups (all P<0.01). There was no serious AE during this trial. Conclusions: IDSA can not only significantly improve cognitive function, but also reduce depression, anxiety, which finally improves the patient's self-care ability. Background & AIMS: To compare the association of geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and controlling nutritional status (CONUT) scores with malnutrition, and to study their association with clinical outcomes in older adult cancer patients. Methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted on 854 older adult cancer patients collected from 34 hospitals in 18 cities in China between June and September 2014. Anthropometric and hematological examination results at admission were collected, and subjective global assessment was used. Clinical outcomes, such as complications, length of hospital stays, and hospital costs, were recorded. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the accuracy of the two nutritional assessment tools for malnutrition. The association between GNRI and CONUT score and clinical outcomes was analyzed using the chi-square test, t-test, or rank sum test. Results: Among 854 patients with cancer, the prevalence of malnutrition was 42.7%. Compared with subjective global assessment, the GNRI had a significantly higher accuracy than the CONUT score in predicting malnutrition (area under the curve 0.704, 95% confidence interval, 0.658–0.750, P < 0.001). The GNRI was significantly associated with the occurrence of complications (χ2 = 4.985, P = 0.026), and low GNRI (≤98) was associated with a longer length of hospital stay (t = −2.179, P = 0.030). On June 23, 2020, Prolia® (denosumab) was approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in the People's Republic of China as the first monoclonal antibody for the treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk of fractures. Its brand name in Chinese is 普罗力, a transliteration from the English name "Prolia", which has an implied meaning of "to give strength to everyone"— a suitable name for a potent anti-resorptive therapy. The approval was supported by a novel marketing authorization application (MAA) that included data from Prolia's global clinical trial program establishing favorable efficacy and safety, augmented by results from a real-world evidence (RWE) study confirming the effectiveness and safety of Prolia in clinical practice within Taiwan and Hong Kong. Key constructs for this registration-quality RWE study included the fit-for-purpose assessment of data quality, methodology and quantitative assessment of potential biases, good practices of study conduct, and reproducibility of results. Using data from clinical practice in Taiwan and Hong Kong to evaluate the benefits versus risks of Prolia treatment in ethnic Chinese women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, the RWE study results for effectiveness were comparable to efficacy demonstrated in the global clinical trial program and results for safety were consistent with the incidence observed in global post-marketing safety studies. While RWE is often used to monitor postmarket safety of drug products, support health insurance coverage decisions, and inform clinicians on real-world use of medicines, it has not been widely used to support regulatory approval for new medicines in lieu of clinical bridging studies in countries where such studies are required. Well-conducted registrational RWE studies can play a pivotal role in complementing the totality of evidence presented in an MAA. The benefits of such an approach include avoiding the collection of additional placebo-controlled trial data in populations where adequate ethnic characterization of efficacy, effectiveness, and safety may already exist from postmarketing sources, and accelerate access for patients to innovative medicines in important regions. Background: Headache disorders are disabling, with major consequences for productivity, yet the literature is silent on the relationship between headache-attributed disability and lost productivity, often erroneously regarding the two as synonymous. We evaluated the relationship empirically, having earlier found that investment in structured headache services would be cost saving, not merely cost-effective, if reductions in headache-attributed disability led to > 20% pro rata recovery of lost productivity. Methods: We used individual participant data from Global Campaign population-based studies conducted in China, Ethiopia, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Russia, and from Eurolight in Lithuania, Luxembourg and Spain. We assessed relationships in migraine and probable medication-overuse headache (pMOH), the most disabling common headache disorders. Available symptom data included headache frequency, usual duration and usual intensity. We used frequency and duration to estimate proportion of time in ictal state (pTIS). Disability, in the sense used by the Global Burden of Disease study, was measured as the product of pTIS and disability weight for the ictal state. Impairment was measured as pTIS * intensity. Lost productivity was measured as lost days (absence or < 50% productivity) from paid work and corresponding losses from household work over the preceding 3 months. We used Spearman correlation and linear regression analyses. Results: For migraine, in a linear model, we found positive associations with lost paid worktime, significant (p < 0.05) in many countries and highly significant (p < 0.001) in some despite low values of R2 (0–0.16) due to high variance. With lost household worktime and total lost productivity (paid + household), associations were highly significant in almost all countries, although still with low R2 (0.04–0.22). Applying the regression equations for each country to the population mean migraine-attributed disability, we found pro rata recoveries of lost productivity in the range 16–56% (> 20% in all countries but Pakistan). Analysing impairment rather than disability increased variability. For pMOH, with smaller numbers, associations were generally weaker, occasionally negative and mostly not significant. Conclusion: Relief of disability through effective treatment of migraine is expected, in most countries, to recover > 20% pro rata of lost productivity, above the threshold for investment in structured headache services to be cost saving. Background: To study the influence of hyperbilirubinemia on indexes of neonatal kidney function. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted September 2019 to March 2020 in Neonatology Department of Xuzhou Central Hospital. Neonates with gestational age ≥ 35 weeks and aged ≤ 7 days were included and divided into mild, moderate, and severe groups according to total serum bilirubin level. Epidemiologic and demographic data and daily urine output were recorded. Total serum bilirubin, serum creatinine, serum cystatin C, serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), urine NGAL, and kidney injury molecule-1 were tested before and 12~18 h after phototherapy. Parameters of kidney function were compared between groups. Results: Fifty-three, 52, and 49 neonates were included in the mild, moderate, and severe groups, respectively. Urine NGAL was higher in severe (1.36 ± 0.24 μg/L) compared to moderate (1.22 ± 0.19 μg/L) and mild groups (1.16 ± 0.19 μg/L), and differences were statistically significant (P = 0.004 and < 0.001, respectively). Urine NGAL was not significantly different between moderate and mild groups (P > 0.05). No significant differences in other kidney function indexes were observed between the three groups (all P > 0.05). Significant reduction in urine NGAL levels 12~18 h after stopping phototherapy was found in severe group ((1.17 ± 0.28) μg/L vs. (1.35 ± 0.23) μg/L, P < 0.001). Urine NGAL positively correlated with total serum bilirubin (r = 0.575, P < 0.001). Among all cases, neither serum creatinine nor daily urine output met neonatal acute kidney injury diagnostic criteria. Conclusion: Severe hyperbilirubinemia may temporarily impair renal tubular reabsorption functions in full-term and near-term neonates, which is likely reversible. Aims: To investigate the longitudinal association of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components with disability outcomes. Methods: A total of 5875 participants aged 60 and above completed the 2011 and 2015 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). MetS at baseline was measured by the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III criteria. Logistic regressions were conducted to analyze the associations between baseline MetS and incident disability, measured as the onset of limitations regarding instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and activities of daily living (ADL) 4 years later. Linear regression was adopted to analyze the longitudinal impact of baseline MetS on the number of IADL and ADL limitations in 2015. A comprehensive list of baseline covariates was adjusted in all regression analyses. Results: Baseline MetS was related to increased odds of incident IADL disability (OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.05–1.55) and incident ADL disability (OR = 1.27, 95% CI 1.05–1.53) among disability-free participants at baseline. Baseline MetS was also associated with an increase in the number of IADL (beta = 0.15, 95% CI 0.07–0.23) and ADL limitations (beta = 0.10, 95% CI 0.01–0.18), while adjusting for baseline functional performance. Significant MetS component predictors of disability outcomes include abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, and a low level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Conclusions: Our findings suggest an increased risk of incident disability and deteriorated functional performance over 4 years, associated with the presence of MetS and its components. Previous studies have examined the moderating effect of respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) on the association between marital conflict and externalizing problems, however the findings were inconsistent. One possible reason is that the covariation of internalizing problems in externalizing problems. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine this issue. Participants were 332 Chinese adolescents (54.5% boys) age from 13 to 15 years old. At T1, electrocardiogram monitoring was performed on adolescents during the resting state and stressor tasks (a speech task and a mental arithmetic task) to obtain RSA data. The Chinese version of the Achenbach Youth Self-Report-2001 (YSR-2001) and the Chinese version of the Children's Perception of Interparental Conflict scale were used to assess adolescents' externalizing and internalizing problems and their perception of marital conflict, respectively. Adolescents' problem behaviors were assessed again in the second and third waves of data collection, with a 1-year lag among each wave. The results revealed that the 3- interactions of marital conflict × RSA reactivity in speech task × sex significantly predicted the trajectory of externalizing problems when controlling for internalizing problems from externalizing problems. Specifically, girls with greater RSA suppression to the speech task reported low and stable externalizing problems, however, boys with the same pattern were associated with slightly increased levels of externalizing problems. While, RSA augmentation to the speech task predicted the increase in externalizing problems among both girls and boys in high marital conflict families over time. However, this interaction effects were not significant when not partial out internalizing problems from externalizing problems. The findings highlight the importance of controlling for the covariation of internalizing problems when examining the interaction effects of person and environment on the development of adolescents' externalizing problems.
