The 66 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 124 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on classification recognition, and tracking, segmentation, images analysis, image processing, video surveillance and biometrics, algorithms and optimization; and 3D, depth and scene understanding.

This volume collects the papers accepted for presentation at the 12th Int- national Conference on “Advanced Concepts for Intelligent Vision Systems” (ACIVS 2010). Following the?rst meeting in Baden-Baden (Germany) in 1999, whichwaspartofalargemulticonference,theACIVSconferencethendeveloped into an independent scienti?c event and has ever since maintained the tradition of being a single track conference. ACIVS 2010 attracted computer scientists from 29 di?erent countries, mostly from Europe, Australia, and the USA, but also from Asia. Although ACIVS is a conference on all areas of image and video processing, submissions tend to gather within certain major?elds of interest. This year 3D and depth processing and computer vision and surveillance were popular topics. Noteworthy are the growing number of papers related to theoretical devel- ments. We would like to thank the invited speakers Mubarak Shah (University of Central Florida), Richard Kleihorst (VITO, Belgium), Richard Hartley (A- tralian National University), and David Suter (Adelaide University) for their valuable contributions.

The 25 revised full papers, including 4 poster presentations, presented together with 3 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 50 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on robust watermarking, video watermarking, steganography and steganalysis, multimedia watermarking and security protocols, as well as image forensics and authentication.

We are delighted to welcome the attendees of the Fourth International Wo- shop on Digital Watermarking (IWDW). Watermarking continues to generate strong academic interest. Commercialization of the technology is proceeding at a steadypace. We haveseen watermarkingadoptedfor DVD audio.Fingerpri- ing technology was successfully used to determine the source of pirated video material. Furthermore, a number of companies are using watermarking as an enabling technology for broadcast monitoring services. Watermarking of digital cinema contentis anticipated. Future applications may also come from areas- related to digital rights management. For example, the use of watermarking to enhance legacy broadcast and communication systems is now being considered. IWDW 2005 o?ers an opportunity to re?ect upon the state of the art in digital watermarking as well as discuss directions for future research and applications. This year we accepted 31 papers from 74 submissions. This 42% acceptance rate indicates our commitment to ensuring a very high quality conference. We thankthemembersoftheTechnicalProgramCommitteeformakingthispossible by their timely and insightful reviews. Thanks to their hard work this is the?rst IWDW at which the?nal proceedings are available to the participants at the time of the workshop as a Springer LNCS publication.
