This volume is the first of a two-volume set of the Proceedings of the XXVI International Conference on Living and Walking in Cities, held September 6-8 2023 at the University of Brescia, Italy. The LWC International Conference was first organized in 1994 at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Brescia (IT). This year the LWC Conference has arrived at its XXVI edition. The Conference traditionally deals with the topics of urban mobility and quality of life in urban areas, with a specific focus on vulnerable road users. The LWC Conference allows researchers, experts, administrators, and practitioners to gather and discuss policy issues, best practices, and research findings from different perspectives. The main theme of the 2023 conference was “new challenges for sustainable urban mobility”, and the papers herein address the issue from a multidisciplinary perspective and cover a wide variety of related topics. This eleven-volume set LNCS 14815 – 14825 constitutes the refereed workshop proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2024, held at Hanoi, Vietnam, during July 1–4, 2024. The 281 full papers, 17 short papers and 2 PHD showcase papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 450 submissions. This book examines the Europeanisation of party politics in Malta. It evaluates the influence of Europeanisation on the political system, which is based on two party-system, polarisation, and clientelism. Malta is the smallest European Union (EU) member state, which joined the EU in 2004. The road toward membership was fraught with contentious and emotionally charged debates. This book explores the relationship between Maltese political parties and the EU, the politicisation and framing of the European Union by political parties, and the impact of the European Union on Malta's political system. The book is dedicated to the implementation of different multi-criteria decision-making techniques for various problems concerning planning and operation of the smart grid from the Society 5.0 perspective. It consists of a practical explanation of several multi-criteria approaches and examples of their application to real problems. In this book, the choice of the optimal smart grid strategy in planning and operation is made. Various areas of smart grid problems are analyzed, from the smart grid project efficiency assessment to the electric vehicle charging schedule optimization. Tourism has become one of the most dynamic sectors in the economy and has exhibited a structurally growing importance over the past decades. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the conference was organized in an online event.Computational Science is the main pillar of most of the present research, industrial and commercial applications, and plays a unique role in exploiting ICT innovative technologies.The 466 full papers and 32 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 1450 submissions. This book highlights a selection of the best papers presented at the 2016 SIEV conference “The Laudato sì Encyclical Letter and Valuation. Cities between Conflict and Solidarity, Decay and Regeneration, Exclusion and Participation”, which was held in Rome, Italy, in April 2016, and brought together experts from a diverse range of fields – economics, appraisal, architecture, energy, urban planning, sociology, and the decision sciences – and government representatives. Does application of countdown timers at traffic lights affect pedestrian safety? How can one model walking routes in transport systems using open source tools? What features should be particularly taken into account while implementing highly advanced ICT components in contemporary towns? What scenario for the development of Intelligent Transport Systems should be chosen for a specific area? How to estimate the impact of the substances emitted by vehicles on climate changes? This book examines electric car sharing in cities from a variety of perspectives, from service design to simulation, from mathematical modeling to technology deployment, and from energy use improvement to the integration of different kinds of vehicle. The contents reflect the outcomes of the Green Move project, undertaken by Politecnico di Milano with the aim of fostering an innovative and easily accessible electric vehicle sharing system. The first section of the book illustrates the car sharing service, covering service design, the configuration of the vehicle sharing model and the Milan mobility pattern, analysis of local demand and supply, testing of the condominium-based car sharing model, and communication design for social engagement. The second section then explains the technological choices, from the architecture of the system and dynamic applications to information management, the smartphone-based energy-oriented driving assistance system, automatic fleet balancing systems, and real-time monitoring of vehicle positions. This book shows how transit assignment models can be used to describe and predict the patterns of network patronage in public transport systems. It provides a fundamental technical tool that can be employed in the process of designing, implementing and evaluating measures and/or policies to improve the current state of transport systems within given financial, technical and social constraints. The book offers a unique methodological contribution to the field of transit assignment because, moving beyond “traditional” models, it describes more evolved variants that can reproduce:• intermodal networks with high- and low-frequency services;• realistic behavioural hypotheses underpinning route choice;• time dependency in frequency-based models; and• assumptions about the knowledge that users have of network conditionsthat are consistent with the present and future level of information that intelligent transport systems (ITS) can provide. This book is focused on the challenges to implement sustainability in diverse contexts such as agribusiness, natural resource systems and new technologies.The experiences made by the researchers of the School of Agricultural, Forestry, Food and Environmental Science (SAFE) of the University of Basilicata offer a wide and multidisciplinary approach to the identification and testing of different solutions tailored to the economic, social and environmental characteristics of the region and the surrounding areas.Basilicata's productive system is mainly based on activities related to the agricultural sector and exploitation of natural resources but it has seen, in recent years, an industrial development driven by the discovery of oil fields. Globalization of the economy, fragmentation of the production process, increasing externalization of TNCs activities through their global value chains and the widespread adoption of Just-in-Time have increased the flows of raw materials, intermediate goods and finished products, with a direct effect on the transport and logistics industry. This industry, indeed, plays a key role in connecting the different import and export markets and the vertically disaggregated components of production system, which are widespread in the world. The existing literature on transport and logistics is mainly focused on engineering research, transportation economics and management studies, disregarding the view of regional economics, which relates with the impact of economics on space, and therefore, on the impact of internationalisation on a specific industry – transport and logistics and its effects on space. The present book aims to fill the gap in the existing literature by presenting the state of the art of the impact of globalisation and internationalisation of the economy on this industry and focusing on the case of Italy.

This edited volume presents new insights and challenges in the field of electric mobility in relation to new mobility and infrastructure concepts as well as to renewable energies. The book covers the socio-economic view on the topic as well as technical aspects and thus offers valuable knowledge for future business models. It primarily addresses practitioners and researchers in the field but may also be of use to graduate students.

This volume of papers grew out of a research project on'Cross-Linguistic Quantification'originated by Emmon Bach, Angelika Kratzer and Barbara Partee in 1987 at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and supported by National Science Foundation Grant BNS 871999. The publication also reflects directly or indirectly several other related activ­ ities. Bach, Kratzer, and Partee organized a two-evening symposium on cross-linguistic quantification at the 1988 Annual Meeting of the Linguistic Society of America in New Orleans (held without financial support) in order to bring the project to the attention of the linguistic community and solicit ideas and feedback from colleagues who might share our concern for developing a broader typological basis for research in semantics and a better integration of descriptive and theoretical work in the area of quantification in particular. The same trio organized a six-week workshop and open lecture series and related one-day confer­ ence on the same topic at the 1989 LSA Linguistic Institute at the University of Arizona in Tucson, supported by a supplementary grant, NSF grant BNS-8811250, and Partee offered a seminar on the same topic as part of the Institute course offerings. Eloise Jelinek, who served as a consultant on the principal grant and was a participant in the LSA symposium and the Arizona workshops, joined the group of editors for this volume in 1989.

Since the pioneering publications on coordination chemistry by Lehn and Pedersen in the late 1960s, coupled with the more orthodox interest from the transition metal chemists on template reactions (Busch, 1964), the field of supramolecular chemistry has grown at an astonishing rate. The use of transition metals as essential constituents of multi-component assemblies has been especially sharp in recent years, since the metals are prone to quick and reversible redox changes, and there is a wide variety of metal--ligand interactions. Such properties make supramolecular complexes of transition metal ions suitable candidates for exploration as light--energy converters and signal processors. Transition Metals in Supramolecular Chemistry focuses on the following main topics: (1) metal controlled organization of novel molecular assemblies and shapes; (2) design of molecular switches and devices operating through metal centres; (3) supramolecular catalysts that mimic metalloenzymes; (4) metal-containing sensory reagents and supramolecular recognition; and (5) molecular materials that display powerful electronic, optoelectronic and magnetic properties.

After 17 years, the Nutricia Symposium retumed to its horne grounds in The of the 10th Nutricia Netherlands, where the first five Symposia were held. The objective Symposium was to bring together a limited number of opinion leaders and key researchers in selected topics of infant nutrition to discuss the current state of the art based on original contributions and reviews. The discussion sessions after the papers were taped and edited and may give additional information and views. As a result of time constraints, the discussions on a few papers had to be cut short, or, unfortunately, could not take place at all. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend reading the discussion sections, such as the panel discussion on the requirements for LCPUFA for term and/or preterm infants. During the preparation of the Symposium the sad news that Professor J. H. P. Jonxis died prompted the organisers to dedicate one special lecture to the memory of the principal organiser of the first four Nutricia Symposia. This lecture entitled'What determines the production and composition ofbreast milk?'was given by Dr. Kathleen Moti!.
