Objective: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is an ANCA-associated vasculitis. The 2022 ACR/EULAR-endorsed classification criteria for GPA was derived using data only from adult patients. We aimed to assess the performance of the ACR/EULAR classification criteria for GPA in paediatric patients and compare it with the EULAR/Pediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organization (PRINTO)/Pediatric Rheumatology European Society (PReS)-endorsed Ankara 2008 criteria for GPA., Methods: Retrospective data of paediatric patients with GPA in 20 centres from 9 countries were evaluated. The diagnosis of GPA was made according to the expert opinion. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of the criteria sets were evaluated., Results: The study included 77 patients with GPA and 108 controls [IgA vasculitis (n = 44), Takayasu's arteritis (n = 20), microscopic polyangiitis (n = 16), polyarteritis nodosa (n = 14), Behçet's disease (n = 12), eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (n = 1) and Cogan's syndrome (n = 1)] with a median age of 17.8 and 15.2 years, respectively. Among patients with GPA, constitutional symptoms (85.7%) and ENT involvement (79.2%) were the most common presentations. In the GPA group, 73 patients fulfilled the Ankara 2008 criteria and 69 the ACR/EULAR classification criteria. Sensitivities of the Ankara 2008 criteria and the ACR/EULAR classification criteria were 94.8% and 89.6%, while specificities were 95.3% and 96.3%, respectively. No significant difference was found between sensitivities and specificities of both classification criteria (P = 0.229 and P = 0.733, respectively)., Conclusion: In children, both the ACR/EULAR and EULAR/PRINTO/PReS Ankara 2008 classification criteria for GPA perform well and similarly., (© Crown copyright 2023.)

Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of subcutaneous tocilizumab (SC-TCZ) treatment in a long-term extension (LTE) of clinical trials in polyarticular or systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pJIA or sJIA)., Methods: Patients with pJIA or sJIA from two open-label, 52-week phase 1b core trials of SC-TCZ who had adequate response per investigator assessment entered the LTE and continued SC-TCZ treatment according to body weight-based dosing regimens until commercial availability or up to 5 years. Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and efficacy were assessed for up to 3 years, and safety for up to 5 years in the LTE., Results: Forty-four patients with pJIA and 38 patients with sJIA entered the LTE. Tocilizumab trough concentrations were maintained within the range expected to provide clinical benefit (mean values: pJIA, ∼10 μg/ml; sJIA, ∼75 μg/ml over 3 years). Pharmacodynamic parameters (interleukin-6, soluble interleukin-6 receptor, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein) were maintained throughout the LTE at levels achieved in the core trials. Inactive disease per American College of Rheumatology provisional criteria was reported for 90% (17/19) and 53% (8/15) of patients with pJIA and 91% (10/11) and 92% (12/13) of patients with sJIA in the <30 and ≥30 kg body weight groups, respectively. Serious adverse events in the LTE were reported in six patients with pJIA (13.6%; five serious infections) and five patients with sJIA (13.2%; one serious infection)., Conclusion: Patients with pJIA or sJIA experienced long-term disease control with SC-TCZ treatment. Objectives: To assess immunogenicity of a heterologous fourth dose of an mRNA (BNT162b2) severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine in autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD) patients with poor/non-response to inactivated vaccine (Sinovac-CoronaVac)., Methods: A total of 164 ARD patients who were coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) poor/non-responders (negative anti-SARS-CoV-2 S1/S2 IgG and/or neutralizing antibodies-NAb) to the third dose of Sinovac-CoronaVac received an additional heterologous dose of mRNA (BNT162b2) 3 months after last dose. IgG and NAb were evaluated before and after the fourth dose., Results: Significant increases were observed after the fourth dose in IgG (66.4 vs 95.1%, P < 0.001), NAb positivity (5.5 vs 83.5%, P < 0.001) and geometric mean titre (29.5 vs 215.8 AU/ml, P < 0.001), and 28 (17.1%) remained poor/non-responders. Patients with negative IgG after a fourth dose were more frequently under rituximab (P = 0.001). Negative NAb was associated with older age (P = 0.015), RA (P = 0.002), SSc (P = 0.026), LEF (P = 0.016) and rituximab use (P = 0.007). In multiple logistic regression analysis, prednisone dose ≥7.5 mg/day (OR = 0.34; P = 0.047), LEF (OR = 0.32, P = 0.036) and rituximab use (OR = 0.19, P = 0.022) were independently associated with negative NAb after the fourth vaccine dose., Conclusions: This is the largest study to provide evidence of a remarkable humoral response after the fourth dose of heterologous mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in ARD patients with poor/non-response to the third dose of an inactivated vaccine. Objectives: We evaluated cardiac function in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients by 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography (2DSTE) and to assess possible associations with clinical, laboratorial, and treatment data., Methods: A group of 42 JIA patients and 42 healthy controls were evaluated using both conventional echocardiography and 2DSTE. JIA patients underwent clinical and laboratory assessment., Results: Conventional echocardiography data demonstrated normal left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction in both groups (71 vs. 71%; p = .69). 2DSTE analysis demonstrated that JIA patients presented significantly lower LV global systolic longitudinal strain (LVGLS) (-18.76 vs. -22%; p < .0001), LV systolic strain rate (LVSSR) (1.06 vs. 1.32 s-1; p < .0001), LV diastolic strain rate (LVDSR) (1.58 vs. 1.8 s-1; p < .0137), right ventricular global systolic strain (RVGLS) (-24.1% vs. -27.7%; p = .0002), and right ventricular systolic strain rate (RVSSR) (1.4 vs. 1.8 s-1; p = .0035). JIA patients under biological agents presented higher LVGLS (p = .02) and RVLS (p = .01). We also detected an association between LVGLS and C-reactive protein [CRP; -20% in normal CRP (10/42) vs. -18% in elevated CRP patients (32/42), p = .03]., Conclusions: JIA patients present different echocardiographic status from healthy patients. Objectives: To evaluate immunogenicity and safety of an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in systemic autoimmune myopathies (SAMs) and the possible influence of baseline disease parameters, comorbidities and therapy on immune response., Methods: This prospective controlled study included 53 patients with SAMs and 106 non-immunocompromised control group (CTRL). All participants received two doses of the Sinovac-CoronaVac vaccine (28-day interval). Immunogenicity was assessed by anti-SARS-CoV-2 S1/S2 IgG seroconversion (SC), anti-S1/S2 IgG geometric mean titre (GMT), factor increase GMT (FI-GMT), neutralizing antibodies (NAb) positivity, and median neutralizing activity after each vaccine dose (D0 and D28) and six weeks after the second dose (D69). Participants with pre-vaccination positive IgG serology and/or NAb and those with RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 during the protocol were excluded from immunogenicity analysis., Results: Patients and CTRL had comparable sex (P>0.99) and age (P=0.90). Immunogenicity of 37 patients and 79 CTRL-naïve participants revealed at D69, a moderate but significantly lower SC (64.9% vs 91.1%, P<0.001), GMT [7.9 (95%CI 4.7-13.2) vs 24.7 (95%CI 30.0-30.5) UA/ml, P<0.001] and frequency of NAb (51.4% vs 77.2%, P<0.001) in SAMs compared with CTRL. Median neutralizing activity was comparable in both groups [57.2% (interquartile range (IQR) 43.4-83.4) vs 63.0% (IQR 40.3-80.7), P=0.808]. Immunosuppressives were less frequently used among NAb+ patients vs NAb- patients (73.7% vs 100%, P=0.046). Type of SAMs, disease status, other drugs or comorbidities did not influence immunogenicity. Vaccine-related adverse events were mild with similar frequencies in patients and CTRL (P>0.05)., Conclusion: Sinovac-CoronaVac is safe and has a moderate short-term immunogenicity in SAMs, but reduced compared with CTRL. Objective: To analyse the safety, immunogenicity and factors affecting antibody response to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination in patients with SSc., Methods: This is a phase 4 prospective study within a larger trial of two doses of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CoronaVac) in 51 SSc patients compared with 153 controls. Anti-SARS-CoV-2-IgG and neutralizing antibodies (NAb) were assessed at each vaccine shot (D0/D28) and 6 weeks after the second dose(D69), only in individuals with negative baseline IgG/NAb and those who did not have coronavirus-19(COVID19) during follow-up. Vaccine safety was also assessed in all participants., Results: Patients and controls had comparable median ages [48(38.5-57) vs 48(38-57) years, P =0.945]. Patients had mostly diffuse SSc (68.6%) and the majority (74.5%) had interstitial lung disease. Most patients were under immunosuppressive therapy (72.5%), mainly MMF (52.9%). After full vaccination (D69), anti-SARS-CoV-2-IgG frequency (64.1% vs 94.2%, P < 0.001) and NAb positivity (53.8% vs 76.9%; P =0.006) were moderate, although lower than controls. The first dose response (D28) was low and comparable for both seroconvertion rates (SC) (P =0.958) and NAb positivity (P =0.537). SSc patients under MMF monotherapy vs other (no therapy/other DMARDs) had lower immunogenicity (SC: 31.3% vs 90%, P < 0.001) and NAb(18.8% vs 85%, P < 0.001). Multiple regression analysis confirmed that MMF use, but not disease subtype, is associated with insufficient seroconversion [odds ratio (OR)=0.056(95% CI: 0.009, 0.034), P =0.002] and NAb positivity [OR = 0.047(95% CI: 0.007, 0.036), P =0.002]. No moderate/severe side-effects were observed., Conclusion: CoronaVac has an excellent safety profile and moderate response to anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in SSc. Objective: We studied the rate of remission of LN in an international cohort of 248 children and adolescents with biopsy-proven LN. Five different definitions from scientific studies and the definitions recommended by the ACR and Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes were used., Methods: Anonymized clinical data in patients with biopsy-proven LN class ≥III (International Society of Nephrology/Royal Pathology Society) diagnosed and treated in the last 10 years in 23 international centres from 10 countries were collected. We compared the rate of patients in complete and partial remission applying the different definitions., Results: The mean age at diagnosis was 11 years and 4 months, and 177 were females. The number of patients in complete and partial remission varied a great deal between the different definitions. At 24 months, between 50% and 78.8% of the patients were in full remission as defined by the different criteria. The number of patients in partial remission was low, between 2.3% and 25%. No difference in achieved remission was found between boys and girls or between children and adolescents (P > 0.05). Patients with East Asian ethnicity reached remission more often than other ethnicities (P = 0.03-0.0008). Patients treated in high-income countries showed a higher percentage of complete remission at 12 and 24 months (P = 0.002-0.000001)., Conclusion: The rate of children and adolescents with LN achieving remission varied hugely with the definition used. Objectives: Toassess whether 18F-fluordeoxiglucose (18F-FDG) PET/MRI) with angiographic sequences can contribute to detecting vessel wall inflammation in patients with childhood-onset Takayasu's arteritis (c-TA) under immunosuppressive therapy., Methods: A three-centre cross-sectional study was conducted. 18F-FDG PET/MRI scans were performed in c-TA patients and in oncologic patients, who served as the control group. Clinical and laboratory characteristics were also analysed., Results: Seventeen c-TA patients (65% females) between the ages of 6 and 21 years with a mean disease duration of 9.4 years were recruited. Only one patient presented clinical disease activity and six (35.6%) had increased ESR and/or CRP levels. The most frequent magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) findings were stenosis and thickening, observed in 82.4 and 70.6% of c-TA patients, respectively. 18F-FDG PET revealed 18F-FDG uptake greater than the liver in at least one arterial segment in 15 (88.2%) patients in a qualitative analysis and a median maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of 3.22 (interquartile range 2.76-3.69) in a semi-quantitative analysis. c-TA patients presented significantly higher SUVmax values than oncologic patients (P < 0.001). A positive correlation between SUVmax and CRP levels (ρ = 0.528, P = 0.029) was seen., Conclusion: A state-of-the-art imaging modality was used in c-TA patients and revealed a strong arterial FDG uptake even in patients in apparent remission. We suppose that this finding may represent silent activity in the vessel wall; however, we cannot exclude the possibility of arterial remodelling. Importantly, a negative imaging scan may help in immunosuppression withdrawal in daily clinical practice., (© The Author(s) 2021. This study identified the levels of trace minerals and vitamins used in commercial diets by the Brazilian pork industry and compared these levels against the Brazilian reference tables and those from the North American pork industry. Animal feed companies ( n = 15) and cooperatives/agro-industries ( n = 15) from the Brazilian pork sector participated in this study. Levels of vitamin A, D, E, and K, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folic acid, vitamin B 12 , choline, vitamin C, cobalt, copper, chromium, iodine, iron, manganese, selenium, and zinc were collected. Data were compiled by feeding phase to determine descriptive statistics. Ratios were calculated comparing the observed levels to those from the Brazilian reference tables and those from the North American pork industry. Average levels of trace minerals and vitamins used by the Brazilian pork industry were between 40% and 240% higher than the recommendations of the Brazilian reference tables. Compared to the North American pork industry, Brazilian levels for trace minerals were overall higher but for water-soluble vitamins they were significantly lower. Large between-companies variations were observed for most of the studied nutrients, especially for water-soluble vitamins. In conclusion, the Brazilian pork industry adds a significant margin of safety for trace minerals and vitamins supplementation. The large between-companies variations, especially for water-soluble vitamins, reflect the limited knowledge available on precise levels of supplementation for trace nutrients for pigs., (© Crown copyright 2020.)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of creatine supplementation (CS) on renal function in young, healthy, and active subjects. We used a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial as the study design. Thirty-six healthy male university students were recruited and divided into three groups: group placebo, group G3 (3 g/day of CS), and group G5 (5 g/day of CS). To assess renal function, new kidney biomarkers, kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), were quantified. Serum albumin, serum creatinine, serum urea, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), proteinuria, and albuminuria were also measured. All groups were evaluated at two times: prior CS or placebo (pre) and after 35 days on CS or placebo (post). After 35 days of intervention, all characteristics were maintained without significant difference ( P  > 0.05) between the groups, including serum creatinine, eGFR, and more sensitive kidney biomarker concentrations (KIM-1 and MCP-1). The paired analysis showed that the supplemented groups (G3 and 5G) had increased serum creatinine and decreased eGFR levels ( P  < 0.05). However, the values were still within the normal reference range. In conclusion, the results of renal function evaluation did not show any difference between the evaluated groups. Increased serum creatinine and decreased eGFR levels in CS groups can be explained by increased creatine stores and metabolism, since creatinine is a by-product of creatine metabolism. These findings indicate that the use of CS at doses of 3 g and 5 g/day for a short period (35 days) is safe and did not impair the kidneys or renal function in young healthy subjects., (© The Author(s) 2020. Objectives: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) occurs during reproductive age, however, there are no systematic data regarding ovarian function in this disease., Methods: Twenty-eight post-pubertal JIA patients and age-matched 28 healthy controls were studied. Complete ovarian function was assessed during the early follicular phase of the menstrual cycle including anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), estradiol, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and antral follicle count (AFC) by ovarian ultrasound, and anti-corpus lutheum antibodies (anti-CoL). Demographic data, menstrual abnormalities, disease parameters and treatment were also evaluated., Results: The mean current age (22.6 ± 6.59 vs. 22.5 ± 6.59 years, p = .952) was similar in JIA patients and healthy controls with a higher median menarche age [13(8-16) vs. 12(8-14) years, p = .029]. A lower median AMH levels [2.65(0.47-9.08) vs. 4.83(0.74-17.24) ng/mL, p = .029] with a higher LH [8.44 ± 4.14 vs. 6.03 ± 2.80 IU/L, p = .014] and estradiol levels [52.3(25.8-227.4) vs. 38.9(26.2-133.6) pg/mL, p = .008] were observed in JIA compared to control group. Anti-CoL and AFC were similar in both groups (p > .05). Further analysis of JIA patients revealed that current age, disease duration, number of active/limited joints, ESR, CRP, patient/physician VAS, JADAS 71, DAS 28, CHAQ, HAQ, patient/parents PedsQL, PF-SF 36, cumulative glucocorticoid and cumulative methotrexate doses were not correlated with AMH, FSH, estradiol levels or AFC (p > .05)., Conclusion: The present study was the first to suggest diminished ovarian reserve, not associated to hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis, in JIA patients during reproductive age. The impact of this dysfunction in future fertility of these patients needs to be evaluated in prospective studies.

Objective: To assess the possible effect of therapy, disease subtype and severity on H1N1 immunogenicity in patients with SSc., Methods: Ninety-two patients and 92 age- and gender-matched healthy controls received adjuvant-free influenza A/California/7/2009 (pH1N1) vaccine. Blood samples were collected immediately before and 3 weeks after vaccination to evaluate antibody responses to the H1N1 virus. Efficacy was assessed by seroprotection (SP) and seroconversion (SC) rates and the factor increase in geometric mean antibody titre. Participants received a 21-day symptom diary card and were instructed to report local and systemic adverse events., Results: SSc patients were predominantly females (91%) and 61% had limited SSc, 12% had severe skin involvement and 57.6% were on immunosuppressive (IS) therapy. SSc patients and controls presented comparable overall SP (P = 0.20) and SC (P = 0.61) rates. Further evaluation of the possible effect of disease and therapy revealed similar rates of SP and SC in patients with dcSSc vs lcSSc (SP P = 0.62 and SC P = 0.66), severe vs mild/moderate skin involvement (SP P = 1 and SC P = 0.45) and with vs without IS (SP P = 0.26 and SC P = 0.10). The frequency of mild local and minor systemic reactions was similar in patients with dcSSC vs lcSSc (P = 0.70 vs 0.32) and in those with and without severe skin involvement (P = 0.59 vs 0.28)., Conclusion: The non-adjuvanted influenza H1N1 virus vaccine proved to be safe and effective, independent of SSc clinical subtype, disease severity or therapy. These latter factors do not seem to contribute to mild adverse events observed in SSc. Objectives: To compare clinical and laboratorial features between childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE) and adult SLE (aSLE) at concomitant diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)., Methods: This study evaluated 56 cSLE and 73 aSLE patients regularly followed at Pediatric and Rheumatology Divisions of the same University hospital with ITP (platelets count <100,000/mm 3 in the absence of other causes) at lupus onset., Results: Median current age was 11.6 and 27.3 years in cSLE and aSLE, respectively. cSLE had a higher frequency of ITP compared to aSLE (17% vs. 4%, p < .0001) and the former group had more hemorrhagic manifestations (36% vs. 16%, p = .0143). Constitutional symptoms and reticuloendothelial manifestations (p < .05), as well as pericarditis (25% vs. 10%, p = .029) and central nervous system (CNS) involvement (30% vs. 14%, p = .029) were more common in cSLE. Conversely, in aSLE, ITP was solely associated with cutaneous and articular involvements (p < .05). Concerning treatment, intravenous methylprednisolone, intravenous immunoglobulin, blood transfusion and platelets transfusion were more frequently used in the cSLE population (p < .05)., Conclusion: ITP at cSLE has distinct features compared to aSLE with a more severe presentation characterized by concomitant constitutional/reticuloendothelial manifestations, CNS involvement and hemorrhagic manifestation. These findings reinforce the need for a more aggressive treatment in this age group.

Objectives: To assess the rate of serious and/or opportunistic infections in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients from a single tertiary center under biologic therapy and to identify possible risk factors associated to these complications., Methods: A total of 107 JIA patients followed at the biologic therapy center of our tertiary university hospital using a standardized electronic database protocol including demographic data, clinical and laboratorial findings and treatment at baseline and at the moment of infection. Opportunistic infections included tuberculosis, herpes zoster and systemic mycosis., Results: A total of 398 patient-yrs(py) were included. The median time of biologic exposure was 3.0 years (0.15-11.5). We observed 35 serious/opportunistic infectious events in 27 (25%) patients: 31(88.6%) were serious infections and four (11.4%) opportunistic infections. Serious/opportunistic infections rates were 10.6/100py for ETN, 10.9/100py for ADA, 2.6/100py for ABA and 14.8/100py for TCZ. Comparison of 27 patients with and 80 without infection showed a higher frequency of systemic-onset JIA, lower age at biologic therapy initiation and a history of previous serious infection (p < .05) in the former group., Conclusions: This study demonstrated a high rate of serious infections in JIA patients under biologic therapy in a real-life setting. Systemic-onset JIA, lower age at biologic therapy start and history of previous serious infections were important risk factors for these complications. Also, higher rates of severe infections comparing to the former studies was possibly due to elevated MTX doses in our patients.

Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of exposure to air pollutants and inhalable environmental elements during pregnancy and after birth until childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus(cSLE) diagnosis., Methods: This case-control study comprised 30 cSLE patients and 86 healthy controls living in the Sao Paulo metropolitan area. A structured and reliable questionnaire (kappa index for test-retest was 0.78) assessed demographic data, gestational and perinatal-related-factors, and exposure to inhalable elements during pregnancy and after birth (occupational exposure to inhalable particles and/or volatile vapor, and/or tobacco, as well as, the presence of industrial activities or gas stations near the home/work/daycare/school). Tropospheric pollutants included: particulate matter (PM 10 ), sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ), nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), ozone (O 3 ) and carbon monoxide (CO)., Results: The median current age was similar between cSLE patients and healthy controls [16.0 (5-21) versus 15.0 (4-21) years, p = .32], likewise the frequency of female gender (87% versus 78%, p = .43). The frequencies of prematurity (30% versus 6%, p = .001), maternal occupational exposure during pregnancy (59% versus 12%, p < .001), exposure to volatile vapor (48% versus 8%, p < .001) and fetal smoking (maternal and/or secondhand) (37% versus 19%, p = .008) were significantly higher in cSLE patients compared with controls. In a multivariate analysis regarding the gestation period, maternal occupational exposure (OR 13.5, 95% CI 2.5-72.4, p = .002), fetal smoking (OR 8.6, 95%CI 1.6-47, p = .013) and prematurity (OR 15.8, 95%CI 1.9-135.3, p = .012) remained risk factors for cSLE development. Furthermore, exposure to secondhand smoking during pregnancy and after birth (OR 9.1, 95%CI 1.8-42.1, p = .002) was also a risk factor for cSLE development., Conclusions: Prematurity and environmental factors were risk factors for developing cSLE.

Background: Type 1 reaction (T1R) is an acute T-helper type 1 (Th1) inflammatory episode in patients with leprosy. While immunological responses associated with T1R have been investigated, the corresponding metabolic responses that could contribute to T1R pathology have received little attention., Methods: Metabolomics-based analyses of sera from 7 patients with and 9 without T1R were conducted via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Serum metabolites present at levels that significantly differed (P < .05) with a log2 fold change of ≥ 1.0 between patient groups were interrogated against known metabolic pathways. The structural identification of targeted metabolites was confirmed and abundance changes validated by mass spectrometry and enzyme-linked immunoassay., Results: Forty metabolic pathways were perturbed in patients with T1R, with 71 dysregulated metabolites mapping to pathways for lipid mediators of inflammation. Of note was an increase in the abundance of the proinflammatory leukotriene B4 (LTB4) and a corresponding decrease in the level of proresolving resolvin D1 (RvD1). Also, levels of prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and lipoxin A4 (LXA4) in patients with T1R were significantly increased, while the level of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) was decreased., Conclusions: The dysregulation of metabolic pathways leading to abundance shifts between proinflammatory and proresolving lipid mediators provides a link between metabolic and cellular immune responses that result in the Th1-mediated pathology of T1R., (© The Author 2016. Objective: Complete deficiency of Complement C4 component is a strong genetic risk factor for SLE. C4 is encoded by two different genes, C4A and C4B, which show considerable gene copy number (GCN) variation. This study investigates the association of total C4, C4A and C4B GCN with JSLE., Methods: Ninety JSLE patients, 170 adult-onset SLE (aSLE) patients and 200 healthy individuals were evaluated for C4A and C4B GCN by quantitative real-time PCR., Results: JSLE patients had lower GCN for C4A (mean = 1.7; 95% CI: 1.5, 1.9) and C4B (mean = 1.5; 95% CI: 1.3, 1.6) compared with healthy individuals (mean C4A = 2.3; 95% CI: 2.2, 2.5, P < 0.001; C4B = 2.0; 95% CI: 1.8, 2.1; P < 0.001) or with aSLE patients (mean C4A = 1.9; 95% CI: 1.8, 2.1, P = 0.006; mean C4B = 1.8; 95% CI: 1.7, 1.9, P < 0.001). Low total C4 GCN (<4 copies) was more frequent in JSLE than in healthy individuals (59% vs 28%; P < 0.001). The same was observed for low C4A (⩽1 copy) (52% vs 18%; P < 0.001) and for low C4B (60% vs 31%; P < 0.001). JSLE had a stronger association with low total C4 (OR = 3.68, 95% CI: 2.19, 6.20), C4A (OR = 4.98, 95% CI: 2.88, 8.62) and C4B (OR = 3.26; 95% CI: 1.95, 5.47) than aSLE (C4 OR = 2.03; 95% CI: 1.32, 3.13; C4A OR = 2.36; 95% CI: 1.46, 3.81; C4B OR = 1.13; 95% CI: 0.73, 1.74). In addition, pericarditis in JSLE patients was associated with low C4 (OR = 4.13; 95% CI: 1.02, 16.68; P = 0.047) and low C4A (OR = 5.54; 95% CI: 1.37, 22.32; P = 0.016)., Conclusion: Low total C4, C4A and C4B GCN were associated with a stronger risk for developing JSLE than aSLE. Objective: To evaluate force decay between intermaxillary orthodontic elastics with and without latex in the oral medium at different time intervals., Materials and Methods: Intermaxillary orthodontic elastics with and without latex [1/8″ (3.2mm), 1/4″ (6.35mm), and 5/16″ (7.94mm) in diameter] were evaluated 'clinically'. For this purpose, 26 patients served as hosts for the elastics during the evaluation period. Initially, 52 thermoplasticized plates 1mm thick were made according to the patients' mould. Then, the orthodontic accessories were bonded to the plates, which kept the elastics distended throughout the experimental period. The force released by the elastics at this distance was evaluated at 0, 12, and 24 hours. Statistical analyses were performed using the Friedman, Wilcoxon, and Mann-Whitney tests (significance set at 5 per cent)., Results: Elastics with and without latex presented with permanent deformation and increasing internal diameter throughout the entire period. Elastics with latex, 1/8″ (3.2mm) in diameter, sustained higher levels of force than those without latex. Elastics measuring 1/4″ (6.35mm) and 5/16″ (7.94mm) in diameter without latex sustained higher levels of force at 0 and 12 hours compared to those with latex. At the end of the experiment (24 hours), no significant difference was observed between the elastics (P > 0.05)., Limitations: This study only evaluated three time intervals: 0, 12, and 24 hours. If the behaviour was evaluated at different time intervals, different behaviours of these materials might be revealed., Conclusion: Elastics with latex 1/8″ in diameter sustained a higher level of final force than the corresponding type without latex. Background: It is hypothesized that chronic increase of availability of acetylcholine, resulting from the effect of antiacetylcholinesterases, may prevent autonomic imbalance and reduce inflammation yielding benefic effects for cardiovascular disorders in hypertension. The effect of long-term administration of antiacetylcholinesterase agents with central and/or peripheral action, i.e., donepezil and pyridostigmine, were investigated on arterial pressure (AP), sympathovagal balance, plasma cytokine levels, and cardiac remodeling in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR)., Methods: Chronic treatment with donepezil or pyridostigmine started before the onset of hypertension. AP was measured by plethysmography every 4 weeks. At the end of 16 weeks of treatment, methylatropine was used to evaluate the cardiac vagal tone; AP and pulse interval (PI) variability were also evaluated followed by plasma and heart collection for analysis., Results: Pyridostigmine, which does not cross the blood-brain barrier, increased cardiac vagal tone, and reduced cardiomyocyte diameter and collagen density, but did not affect the AP and plasma cytokine levels. Donepezil, which crosses the blood-brain barrier, attenuated the development of hypertension, increased cardiac vagal tone, and improved AP and PI variability. Likewise, donepezil reduced the plasma levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin 6, and interferon γ, besides reducing cardiomyocyte diameter and collagen density., Conclusions: Donepezil attenuated the development of hypertension in SHR probably involving antiinflammatory effects, indicating that acetylcholinesterase inhibition yields benefic effects for antihypertensive therapy., (© American Journal of Hypertension, Ltd 2015. To the best of our knowledge, no cases of ulcerative colitis (UC) mimicking Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) have been reported so far. During a 28-year period 5635 patients were followed up at our Pediatric Rheumatology Unit and 357 had HSP according to the European League Against Rheumatism, the Paediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organisation and the Paediatric Rheumatology European Society validated classification criteria. At the same period, 148 patients with IBD according to the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition criteria were followed up at the Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit in our University Hospital. Only two of them had vasculitis, as an extra intestinal manifestation of UC mimicking HSP, and fulfilled both disease criteria. A 2-year old girl had bloody diarrhoea, severe abdominal pain, arthritis in ankles, petechiae and palpable purpura not related to thrombocytopenia in lower limbs. A 5-year old boy had bloody diarrhoea, palpable purpura in buttocks, lower limbs, penis and scrotum associated with arthritis in knees, orchitis in right testicle and periarticular swelling in hands and feet. Their ileocolonoscopy showed diffuse mucosal erythema, oedema, friability and multiple irregular ulcers, and histopathological examination of colonic specimen revealed diffuse chronic mucosal inflammation, crypt distortion and crypt abscesses suggesting ulcerative colitis. There were no signs of intestinal vasculitis in both cases. In conclusion, this is the first study in a paediatric population that evidenced palpable purpura associated with UC mimicking HSP., (Copyright © 2012 European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation. Objective: To evaluate the immunogenicity of the anti-influenza A H1N1/2009 vaccine in RA and spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients receiving distinct classes of anti-TNF agents compared with patients receiving DMARDs and healthy controls., Methods: One hundred and twenty patients (RA, n = 41; AS, n = 57; PsA, n = 22) on anti-TNF agents (monoclonal, n = 94; soluble receptor, n = 26) were compared with 116 inflammatory arthritis patients under DMARDs and 117 healthy controls. Seroprotection, seroconversion (SC), geometric mean titre, factor increase in geometric mean titre and adverse events were evaluated 21 days after vaccination., Results: After immunization, SC rates (58.2% vs 74.3%, P = 0.017) were significantly lower in SpA patients receiving anti-TNF therapy, whereas no difference was observed in RA patients receiving this therapy compared with healthy controls (P = 0.067). SpA patients receiving mAbs (infliximab/adalimumab) had a significantly lower SC rate compared with healthy controls (51.6% vs 74.3%, P = 0.002) or those on DMARDs (51.6% vs 74.7%, P = 0.005), whereas no difference was observed for patients on etanercept (86.7% vs 74.3%, P = 0.091). Further analysis of non-seroconverting and seroconverting SpA patients revealed that the former group had a higher mean age (P = 0.003), a higher frequency of anti-TNF (P = 0.031) and mAbs (P = 0.001) and a lower frequency of MTX (P = 0.028). In multivariate logistic regression, only older age (P = 0.015) and mAb treatment (P = 0.023) remained significant factors for non-SC in SpA patients., Conclusion: This study revealed a distinct disease pattern of immune response to the pandemic influenza vaccine in inflammatory arthritis patients receiving anti-TNF agents, illustrated by a reduced immunogenicity solely in SpA patients using mAbs., Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov, www.clinicaltrials.gov, NCT01151644.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of pandemic 2009 influenza A (H1N1) in SLE under different therapeutic regimens., Methods: A total of 555 SLE patients and 170 healthy controls were vaccinated with a single dose of a non-adjuvanted preparation. According to current therapy, patients were initially classified as SLE No Therapy (n = 75) and SLE with Therapy (n = 480). Subsequent evaluations included groups under monotherapy: chloroquine (CQ) (n = 105), prednisone (PRED) ≥20 mg (n = 76), immunosuppressor (IS) (n = 95) and those with a combination of these drugs. Anti-H1N1 titres and seroconversion (SC) rate were evaluated at entry and 21 days post-vaccination., Results: The SLE with Therapy group had lower SC compared with healthy controls (59.0 vs 80.0%; P < 0.0001), whereas the SLE No Therapy group had equivalent SC (72 vs 80.0%; P = 0.18) compared with healthy controls. Further comparison revealed that the SC of SLE No Therapy (72%) was similar to the CQ group (69.5%; P = 0.75), but it was significantly reduced in PRED ≥20 mg (53.9%; P = 0.028), IS (55.7%; P = 0.035) and PRED ≥20 mg + IS (45.4%; P = 0.038). The concomitant use of CQ in each of these later regimens was associated with SC responses comparable with SLE No Therapy group (72%): PRED ≥20 mg + CQ (71.4%; P = 1.00), IS + CQ (65.2%; P = 0.54) and PRED ≥20 mg + IS + CQ (57.4%; P = 0.09)., Conclusion: Pandemic influenza A H1N1/2009 vaccine response is diminished in SLE under immunosuppressive therapy and antimalarials seems to restore this immunogenicity. The fennel aphid, Hyadaphis foeniculi (Passerini) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a major pest of fennel, Foeniculum vulgare Miller in northeast region of Brazil. We hypothesize that intercropping can be used as an alternative pest management strategy to reduce aphid yield loss in fennel. Thus, we investigated the severity of fennel plant damage in relation to infestation by the fennel aphid and predation by Cycloneda sanguinea (L.) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) (spotless lady beetle), green lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae), and Scymnus spp. (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in sole fennel plots and plots of fennel intercropped with cotton with colored fibers. The fennel aphid populations in nontreated plots were significantly larger in sole fennel plots than in intercropped plots. The highest densities of C. sanguinea, green lacewings and Scymnus spp., associated with the suppression of fennel aphid populations was found in fennel in the intercropping systems. Fennel aphids reduced the fennel seed yield by 80% in the sole fennel plots compared with approximately 30% for all intercropping systems. The results obtained in this research are of practical significance for designing appropriate strategies for fennel aphid control in fennel-cotton intercropping systems. In summary, intercropping fennel with cotton with colored fibers apparently promoted biocontrol of fennel aphid in fennel.

Despite evidence for the important role of oestrogens in the aetiology and pathophysiology of chronic immune/inflammatory diseases, the previous view of an unequivocal beneficial effect of oestrogens on RA compared with a detrimental effect on SLE has to be reconsidered. Likewise, the long-held belief that RA remits in the majority of pregnant patients has been challenged, and shows that only half of the patients experience significant improvement when objective disease activity measurements are applied. Pregnancies in patients with SLE are mostly successful when well planned and monitored interdisciplinarily, whereas a small proportion of women with APS still have adverse pregnancy outcomes in spite of the standard treatment. New prospective studies indicate better outcomes for pregnancies in women with rare diseases such as SSc and vasculitis. Fertility problems are not uncommon in patients with rheumatic disease and need to be considered in both genders. Necessary therapy, shortly before or during the pregnancy, demands taking into account the health of both mother and fetus. Long-term effects of drugs on offspring exposed in utero or during lactation is a new area under study as well as late effects of maternal rheumatic disease on children.

Objective: We assessed the orofacial involvement in JDM, and evaluated the possible association of gingival and mandibular mobility alterations with demographic data, periodontal indices, clinical features, muscle enzyme levels, JDM scores and treatment., Methods: Twenty-six JDM patients were studied and compared with 22 healthy controls. Orofacial evaluation included clinical features, dental and periodontal assessment, mandibular function and salivary flow., Results: The mean current age was similar in patients with JDM and controls (P > 0.05). A unique gingival alteration characterized by erythema, capillary dilation and bush-loop formation was observed only in JDM patients (61 vs 0%, P = 0.0001). The frequencies of altered mandibular mobility and reduced mouth opening were significantly higher in patients with JDM vs controls (50 vs 14%, P = 0.013; 31 vs 0%, P = 0.005). Comparison of the patients with and without gingival alteration showed that the former had lower values of median of cementoenamel junction (-0.26 vs -0.06 mm, P = 0.013) and higher gingival bleeding index (27.7 vs 14%, P = 0.046). This pattern of gingival alteration was not associated with periodontal disease [plaque index (P =0.332) and dental attachment loss (P = 0.482)]. The medians for skin DAS and current dose of MTX were higher in JDM with gingival alteration (2.5 vs 0.5, P = 0.029; 28.7 vs 15, P = 0.012). A significant association of lower median manual muscle testing with a reduced ability to open the mouth was observed in patients with JDM than those without this alteration (79 vs 80, P = 0.002)., Conclusions: The unique gingival pattern associated with cutaneous disease activity, distinct from periodontal disease, suggests that gingiva is a possible target tissue for JDM. In addition, muscle weakness may be a relevant factor for mandibular mobility.

We tested the hypothesis that lung preservation techniques disarrange lung architecture, increase pulmonary impedance and lead to ischemia-reperfusion injury, which can be prevented by re-establishment of optimal lung geometry. In the first phase, fresh, cold ischemic, preserved lungs insufflated to total lung capacity (TLC) and preserved lungs ventilated with tidal volume prior to reperfusion were submitted to a 60-min ex-vivo reperfusion to evaluate the gas exchange, pulmonary hemodynamic and lung mechanics' properties. In the second phase, we evaluated the mechanical properties of lungs submitted to the same conditions of the first phase. Cold ischemic lungs developed fulminant edema during the first 15 min of ex-vivo reperfusion, whereas gas exchange, hemodynamic and mechanic properties of lungs insufflated to TLC and ventilated during 10 min prior to reperfusion were similar to fresh lungs. After the pulmonary vascular flush pulmonary impedance and alveolar collapsed area increased significantly. The insufflation to TLC and 10 min of tidal ventilation reduced the lung impedance and the percentage of alveolar collapsed area. Lung preservation techniques disarrange alveolar architecture, which lead to ischemia-reperfusion injury; recruitment maneuvers decrease the pulmonary inhomogeneities and protect the lungs against the ischemia-reperfusion injury.

A cross-sectional study was conducted on a randomised sample of 405 children aged 6-71 months in Brazil to investigate the association between nutritional status, environmental and socio-economic factors and Giardialamblia infection. Data collection entailed an interview, anthropometric measurements and the collection of faeces and venous blood samples. The analysis was performed using multivariate logistic regression. The prevalence rate for G. lamblia was 26.3%. Nutritional status evaluation showed that 7.9% of the children had chronic malnutrition and 11.1% had acute malnutrition. The risk factors associated with infection by G. lamblia were an age of 2 years or older [odds ratio (OR)=2.4], living in a two-bedroom house or smaller (OR=2.3), living among a family of five or more people (OR=2.4) and living in a house without access to a sewerage system (OR=2.1). Non-participation in the social service programme was associated with a lower risk of infection (OR=0.2). The model adjusted for age, including only biochemical and nutritional variables, showed weak associations with G. lamblia infection for two variables: inadequate animal protein intake according to the Dietary Reference Intake recommendation and low haemoglobin concentration. The sociodemographic and environmental risk factors classically described were associated with G. lamblia infection, but nutritional variables were only weakly associated with it.

A heparin-binding hemagglutinin (HBHA) expressed on the surface of Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an antigenic protein that has been implicated in bacterial adherence to epithelial cells and systemic dissemination. In this study, the potential role of the Mycobacterium leprae HBHA (ML-HBHA) homologue in leprosy was investigated. Initially, the in vivo expression of HBHA and its association with the M. leprae cell envelope was confirmed by immunoblotting and proteomic analysis. Mycobacterium leprae recombinant HBHA (rML-HBHA) bound to a heparin-Sepharose column, and its capacity to act as an adhesin was demonstrated in experiments showing that the exogenous addition of the protein to latex beads or to M. leprae cells promotes a dramatic increase in association with epithelial cells. Finally, serum anti-HBHA immunoglobulin G levels were investigated in individuals infected with M. leprae. Altogether, our data indicate that HBHA is recognized during the course of bacterial infection in humans and may play a role in leprosy pathogenesis.

This study was designed to determine whether the functional IL-10 gene polymorphism -1082G/A is associated with the development of cardiomyopathy in individuals infected with Trypanosoma cruzi and whether interleukin (IL)-10 expression can be correlated with patients' cardiac function. Our results demonstrated that the polymorphic allele, which correlates with lower expression of IL-10, was associated with the development of Chagas disease cardiomyopathy. Accordingly, correlative analysis showed that low IL-10 expression was associated with worse cardiac function, as determined by left-ventricular ejection fraction values. Therefore, the IL-10 gene polymorphism and IL-10 expression are important in determining susceptibility to chagasic cardiomyopathy.

Objective: To assess the testicular Sertoli cell function in male SLE patients., Methods: Thirty-four consecutive patients were prospectively selected to evaluate serum inhibin B. Clinical features, treatment, semen analysis, urological evaluation, testicular ultrasound, hormones and anti-sperm antibodies were determined., Results: Patients were subdivided into two groups: low serum inhibin B (Group 1, n = 8) and normal levels (Group 2, n = 26). The median sperm concentration (P = 0.024), total sperm count (P = 0.023) and total motile sperm count (P = 0.025) were lower in Group 1. Inhibin B levels were positively correlated with sperm concentration (r = 0.343), total motile sperm count (r = 0.357), and negatively correlated with follicule-stimulating hormone (FSH) (r = 0.699) and luteinizing hormone (r = 0.397). The median serum inhibin B was lower in SLE patients treated with intravenous cyclophosphamide (IVCYC) compared with those without this therapy (P = 0.031). Further evaluation of the 26 SLE patients with normal inhibin B and FSH levels revealed that medians of inhibin B/FSH ratio were lower in SLE patients with oligozoospermia compared with normozoospermia (P = 0.004). This ratio was also lower in SLE patients treated with IVCYC than those without this therapy (P = 0.04). In contrast, inhibin B serum level alone did not discriminate the later group of patients (P = 0.12)., Conclusions: This is the first study to identify a high frequency of testicular Sertoli cell dysfunction in male SLE associated with semen abnormalities. Further prospective studies are necessary to determine if inhibin levels and inhibin B/FSH ratio will be an earlier and useful marker of IVCYC toxicity in these patients.

We examined the effect of chronic (15 days) administration of antihypertensive agents, from different pharmacologic classes, on arterial pressure (AP) and heart rate variability in two-kidney, one-clip hypertensive (2K1C) rats. The 2K1C rats received by gavage one of the following: water, ramipril, losartan, atenolol, amlodipine, or hydrochlorothiazide. Sham-operated normotensive rats received water. After 15 days of treatment AP was continuously sampled from an indwelling catheter in awake rats during a 2-h period and systolic AP and pulse interval (PI) were submitted to autoregressive spectral analysis with oscillatory components quantified in low (LF: 0.25 to 0.75 Hz) and high (HF: 0.75 to 3.0 Hz) frequency bands. The AP measured by tail-cuff was 170 +/- 2 mm Hg in 2K1C and 131 +/- 3 mm Hg in normotensive rats. Pooled data indicated that all antihypertensive agents reduced the AP of 2K1C rats to 127 +/- 2 mm Hg, whereas 2K1C rats treated with water remained hypertensive (206 +/- 11 mm Hg). Variance of systolic AP was found increased in 2K1C rats treated with water (34 +/- 2 mm Hg2), whereas 2K1C rats treated with ramipril, atenolol, amlodipine, or hydrochlorothiazide presented AP variance similar to normotensive rats (16 +/- 2 mm Hg2). Losartan normalized AP of 2K1C rats but variance of systolic AP remained increased (34 +/- 7 mm Hg2). The 2K1C rats treated with water had increased LF of systolic AP, whereas 2K1C rats treated with losartan showed higher LF of systolic AP and PI. Atenolol presented lower LF and higher HF of PI. In conclusion, losartan normalized AP but did not reduce AP variability, suggesting an autonomic imbalance characterized by higher sympathetic modulation of the cardiovascular system.

Objective: Juvenile localized scleroderma (JLS) includes a number of conditions often grouped together. With the long-term goal of developing uniform classification criteria, we studied the epidemiological, clinical and immunological features of children with JLS followed by paediatric rheumatology and dermatology centres., Methods: A large, multicentre, multinational study was conducted by collecting information on the demographics, family history, triggering environmental factors, clinical and laboratory features, and treatment of patients with JLS., Results: Seven hundred and fifty patients with JLS from 70 centres were enrolled into the study. The disease duration at diagnosis was 18 months. Linear scleroderma (LS) was the most frequent subtype (65%), followed by plaque morphea (PM) (26%), generalized morphea (GM) (7%) and deep morphea (DM) (2%). As many as 15% of patients had a mixed subtype. Ninety-one patients (12%) had a positive family history for rheumatic or autoimmune diseases; 100 (13.3%) reported environmental events as possible trigger. ANA was positive in 42.3% of the patients, with a higher prevalence in the LS-DM subtype than in the PM-GM subtype. Scl70 was detected in the sera of 3% of the patients, anticentromere antibody in 2%, anti-double-stranded DNA in 4%, anti-cardiolipin antibody in 13% and rheumatoid factor in 16%. Methotrexate was the drug most frequently used, especially during the last 5 yr., Conclusion: This study represents the largest collection of patients with JLS ever reported. The insidious onset of the disease, the delay in diagnosis, the recognition of mixed subtype and the better definition of the other subtypes should influence our efforts in educating trainees and practitioners and help in developing a comprehensive classification system for this syndrome.

Objectives: To assess the prevalence of pregnancy in 28 females with dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM), assess the outcome in those who became pregnant after the onset of the disease and review the literature of all published cases., Method: Fifty-four patients with myositis have been under long-term follow-up from 1976-2001 (28 female, nine male)., Results: Twenty-eight female patients were divided into 15 with pure DM/PM (seven PM, eight DM) and 13 with an overlap syndrome. The majority of patients had the onset of the disease after childbearing years (mean age of 32 yr for the overlap group and 41 for the DM/PM group). Only four of our patients (14.3%) have been pregnant after the onset of the disease. One patient had a spontaneous abortion, but was on methotrexate and had active disease; one had a late pregnancy loss, but had active disease; and the other two had uneventful pregnancies during a time when the disease was in remission., Conclusion: Fetal prognosis in the main reflects the level of maternal disease. The more active the myositis during the pregnancy, the greater the chance of fetal loss.

The effects of aqueous extracts and hydro-alcoholic extract (HAE), and of a dichloromethane fraction (MG1) obtained from the HAE of Mikania glomerata leaves on isolated respiratory and vascular smooth muscle have been investigated. Aqueousextracts and HAE induced a significant inhibition on the histamine contractions on the isolated guinea-pig trachea. HAE extract induced a concentration-dependent relaxation on guinea-pig trachea pre-contracted with histamine (IC50 0.34 (0.29-0.39) mg mL(-1)), acetylcholine (IC50 0.72 (0.67-0.77) mg mL(-1)) or K+ (IC50 1.41 (1.18-1.64) mg mL(-1)) and on isolated human bronchi precontracted with K+ (IC50 0.34 (0.26-0.42) mg mL(-1)). The dichloromethane fraction induced a concentration dependent relaxation in guinea-pig trachea precontracted with K+ (IC50 0.017 (0.012-0.022) mg mL(-1)). The dichloromethane fraction had also a small vasodilator effect on the isolated mesenteric vascular bed and on the isolated rat aorta, and a significant reduction of the oedema induced by subplantar injections of Bothropsjararaca venom in mice. When tested on plasmid DNA, MG1 did not damage the DNA. Chromatographic analysis showed the presence of 11.4% w/w coumarin in MG1. The results supported the indication of M. glomerata products for the treatment of respiratory diseases where bronchoconstriction is present.
