Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have garnered significant attention in the photovoltaic field owing to their exceptional photoelectric properties, including high light absorption, extensive carrier diffusion distance, and an adjustable band gap. Temperature is a crucial factor influencing both the preparation and performance of perovskite solar cells. The annealing temperature exerts a pronounced impact on the device structure, while the operational temperature influences carrier transport, perovskite band gap, and interface properties. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the influence of varied annealing temperatures on the hole transport layer, electron transport layer, and perovskite layer. Additionally, we present an overview of innovative annealing methods applied to perovskite materials. The effects of diverse working temperatures on the overall performance of perovskite cells are thoroughly examined and discussed in this review. In the end, different temperature conditions under ISOS testing conditions are summarized.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs), a relatively new class of materials, have attracted significant attention in materials science owing to their unique properties and potential applications. High entropy stabilizes the phase of a solid solution over a wide range of chemical compositions, yielding unique properties superior to those of conventional alloys. Therefore, this study analyzed the microstructure and electrochemical behavior of HEAs (Cantor) to evaluate their corrosion resistance, according to their manufacturing process (casting, cold rolling, and annealing). The microstructural morphologies and sizes were analyzed using electron backscatter diffraction. The electrochemical behavior was examined using open circuit potential measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, potentiodynamic polarization tests, and critical pitting temperature measurements using a potentiostat. The casting process formed a nonuniform microstructure (average grain size = 19 μm). The cold rolling process caused the formation of fine grains (size = 4 μm). A uniform microstructure (grain size > 151 μm) was formed after heat treatment. The corrosion resistance of the HEAs was determined from the passivation layer formed by Cr oxidation. These microstructural differences resulted in variations in the electrochemical behavior. Microstructural and electrochemical analyses are crucial because HEAs have diverse potential applications. Therefore, this study contributes to future improvements in HEA manufacturing processes.

Heat treatment is important for optimizing the strength performance and improving the toughness of titanium alloys. In this study, we investigated the impact of three heat treatment methods (β-annealing, double annealing, and solid-solution and aging treatment) on the mechanical properties and fracture morphology of Ti555211 titanium alloy. The results show that after β-annealing treatment, the alloy retains a high strength, while showing almost no ductility, and no yield strength. The alloy after double annealing has a high elongation rate (~54%) and lower strength. After solid-solution and aging heat treatment, the alloy was able to retain both high strength and a certain degree of ductility. The optimal heat-treatment process is solid-solution treatment at 820 °C/2 h and aging at 560 °C/12 h, which results in a maximum tensile strength of 1404 MPa and an elongation rate of 11%.

The oxidation behaviour of iron-based 316L stainless steel was investigated in the temperature range of 700 to 1000 °C. The test specimens in the shape of plates were produced by selective laser melting. After fabrication, the samples were sandblasted and then annealed in air for different periods of time (0.5, 2, 8, 32 h). Under the influence of temperature and time, stainless steels tend to form an oxide layer. Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive analysis, and X-ray diffraction were employed to analyse the composition of this layer. Notably, a thin oxide layer primarily composed of (Fe-Cr) formed on the surface due to temperature effects. In addition, with increasing temperature (up to 1000 °C), the oxide of the main alloying elements, specifically Mn2(Fe-Cr)O4, appeared alongside the Fe-Cr oxide. Furthermore, the samples were subjected to conversion X-ray (CXMS) and conversion electron (CEMS) Mössbauer spectroscopy. CXMS revealed a singlet with a decreasing Mössbauer effect based on the surface metal oxide thickness. CEMS revealed the presence of Fe3+ in the surface layer (0.3 µm). Moreover, an interesting phenomenon occurred at higher temperature levels due to the inhomogeneously thick surface metal oxide layer and the tangential direction of the Mössbauer radiation towards the electron detector.

In this paper, a Cr coating was prepared by induction heating and pack-cementation chromizing on AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel. Then, the cold-rolling deformation and annealing treatment were introduced to refine the coarse matrix grains caused by pack-chromizing and improve the overall performance of 304 austenitic stainless steel. The phase composition, element distribution, and microstructure of the coating were carefully characterized. The microhardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the coating were tested. The results show that the Cr coating with a thickness of 100 μm is mainly composed of a (Cr,Fe)23C6, (Cr,Fe)7C3, and α-Fe-Cr solid solution. After the cold-rolling deformation and subsequent annealing treatment, the grains are significantly refined and the Cr coating is divided into two layers, consisting of carbon-chromium compounds such as Cr23C6, Cr7C3, Cr2C, and Cr3C2 in the surface layer and a Fe-Cr solid solution in the subsurface layer. The cold-rolling deformation and annealing treatment significantly improved the microhardness and wear resistance of the coated sample, and the corrosion resistance was also better than that of the uncoated sample.

The dissolution behavior of δ-ferrite in two commercial stainless steels, 15-5PH and M-154, was studied. In this work, a new approach combining hot deformation and additional post-treatment was investigated and compared with conventional annealing heat treatments for the dissolution of δ-ferrite. The results showed the acceleration in the dissolution of δ-ferrite using the new methodology. Samples from each steel were subjected to conventional annealing heat treatments at 1000 °C and 1150 °C, with soaking times of 1, 2, and 3 h. A second set of samples was subjected to hot compression experiments at 900 °C, under different strain rates, followed by post-processing heat treatments at 1000 °C and 1150 °C, while keeping the holding time constant for 10 min. Advanced microstructural characterization techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Electron Probe Micro-Analysis (EPMA) were employed to investigate δ-ferrite dissolution in terms of changes in area fraction and chemical composition. The results indicated a strong correlation between the dissolution behavior of δ-ferrite and the processing parameters. In addition, thermodynamic calculations using Thermo-Calc software (version 2021.2.87071-368) were used to assess the diffusion of elements during the dissolution of δ-ferrite as a function of temperature and time.

The microstructure evolution during the cold rolling and subsequent annealing of Alloy 800H was investigated. Two distinct rolling methods, unidirectional rolling and cross-rolling, were introduced. Cracks were observed in the cross-rolled plates, while such cracks did not appear in the unidirectionally rolled plates, which indicated better ductility during the unidirectional rolling process. The difference between the two different rolling methods was explained by the evolution of Schmit factors during the deformation. A higher volume fraction of large, deformed grains was observed in the cross-rolled plates than in the unidirectionally rolled plates. Abnormal grain growth was observed in the cross-rolled specimens after annealing while no abnormal grain growth was seen in the unidirectionally rolled ones. In addition, the recrystallization occurred faster in plates from unidirectional rolling than from cross-rolling.

In the current work, a facile ion-solution spraying strategy was employed for one-step fabrication of CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films under atmosphere. The dependences of sample properties on annealing parameters (toleration temperature and duration time) were investigated in detail. As the results suggested, the sample prepared at 200 °C for 15 min featured better properties than others. The sample displayed a cubic phase with good crystallinity, a dense and compact morphology, a bandgap energy of 2.289 eV, and an average decay lifetime of 55.536 ns. Furthermore, the sample presented a Br-rich state, which was favorable for the carrier behavior and structure stability.

Recycled soda-lime glass powder is a sustainable material that is also often considered a filler in cement-based composites. The changes in the surface properties of the glass particles due to the treatments were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and optical spectroscopy. We have found that there is a relatively high level of carbon contamination on the surface of the glass particles (around 30 at.%), so plasma technology and thermal annealing were tested for surface cleaning. Room temperature plasma treatment was not sufficient to remove the carbon contamination from the surface of the recycled glass particles. Instead, the room temperature plasma treatment of recycled soda-lime glass particles leads to a significant enhancement in their room temperature photoluminescence (PL) by increasing the intensity and accelerating the decay of the photoluminescence. The enhanced blue PL after room-temperature plasma treatment was attributed to the presence of carbon contamination on the glass surface and associated charge surface and interfacial defects and interfacial states. Therefore, we propose blue photoluminescence under UV LED as a fast and inexpensive method to indicate carbon contamination on the surface of glass particles.

The reliability and durability of integrated circuits (ICs), present in almost every electronic system, from consumer electronics to the automotive or aerospace industries, have been and will continue to be critical concerns for IC chip makers, especially in scaled nanometer technologies. In this context, ICs are expected to deliver optimal performance and reliability throughout their projected lifetime. However, real-time reliability assessment and remaining lifetime projections during in-field IC operation remain unknown due to the absence of trustworthy on-chip reliability monitors. The integration of such on-chip monitors has recently gained significant importance because they can provide real-time IC reliability extraction by exploiting the fundamental physics of two of the major reliability degradation phenomena: bias temperature instability (BTI) and hot carrier degradation (HCD). In this work, we present an extensive study of ring oscillator (RO)-based degradation and annealing monitors designed on our latest 28 nm versatile array chip. This test vehicle, along with a dedicated test setup, enabled the reliable statistical characterization of BTI- and HCD-stressed as well as annealed RO monitor circuits. The versatility of the test vehicle presented in this work permits the execution of accelerated degradation tests together with annealing experiments conducted on RO-based reliability monitor circuits. From these experiments, we have constructed precise annealing maps that provide detailed insights into the annealing behavior of our monitors as a function of temperature and time, ultimately revealing the usage history of the IC.

Transition-edge sensor (TES) microcalorimeters are advanced cryogenic detectors that use a superconducting film for particle or photon detection. We are establishing a new production line for TES detectors to serve as cryogenic anticoincidence (i.e., veto) devices. These detectors are made with a superconducting bilayer of titanium (Ti) and gold (Au) thin films deposited via electron beam evaporation in a high vacuum condition on a monocrystalline silicon substrate. In this work, we report on the development of such sensors, aiming to achieve stable sensing performance despite the effects of aging. For this purpose, patterned and non-patterned Ti/Au bilayer samples with varying geometries and thicknesses were fabricated using microfabrication technology. To characterize the detectors, we present and discuss initial results from repeated resistance–temperature (R–T) measurements over time, conducted on different samples, thereby augmenting existing literature data. Additionally, we present a discussion of the sensor’s degradation over time due to aging effects and test a potential remedy based on an easy annealing procedure. In our opinion, this work establishes the groundwork for our new TES detector production line.

This study investigates the effect of a high-temperature annealing process on the characteristics and performance of a memristor based on a Ag/Ga2O3/Pt structure. Through X-ray diffraction analysis, successful phase conversion from amorphous Ga2O3 to β-Ga2O3 is confirmed, attributed to an increase in grain size and recrystallization induced by annealing. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed a higher oxygen vacancy in annealed Ga2O3 thin films, which is crucial for conductive filament formation and charge transport in memristors. Films with abundant oxygen vacancies exhibit decreased set voltages and increased capacitance in a low-resistive state, enabling easy capacitance control depending on channel presence. In addition, an excellent memory device with a high on/off ratio can be implemented due to the reduction of leakage current due to recrystallization. Therefore, it is possible to manufacture a thin film suitable for a memristor by increasing the oxygen vacancy in the Ga2O3 film while improving the overall crystallinity through the annealing process. This study highlights the significance of annealing in modulating capacitance and high-resistive/low-resistive state properties of Ga2O3 memristors, contributing to optimizing device design and performance. This study underscores the significance of high-temperature annealing in improving the channel-switching characteristics of Ga2O3-based memristors, which is crucial for the development of low-power, high-efficiency memory device.

The functional characteristics of starch can be altered by shear force, which makes the impact on its microstructure of great importance to the food industry. This study investigated the effects of freeze-drying on the gel texture, pasting capabilities, and swelling power of starches made from sweet potatoes (SP), chickpeas (CP), and wheat (WS) combined with Cordia (CG) and Ziziphus gum (ZG). The samples were annealed in water without shearing and in a rapid visco-analyzer (RVA) for 30 min at 60 °C while being spun at 690 rpm. Both native and freeze-dried samples were mixed with 1% or 3% ZG and CG. After annealing, the starches were examined using a texture analyzer and RVA. The results showed that freeze-drying had a substantial (p > 0.05) impact on the starch granule, in addition to the effect of annealing. The peak viscosity of freeze-dried native CP and SP starches increased, but the peak viscosity of freeze-dried wheat starch decreased. The setbacks for CP and WS increased, whereas the setbacks for SP varied slightly. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that annealing in an RVA exhibited a substantially lower peak viscosity than annealing in a water bath; the RVA’s shearing effect may have been the cause of this difference. Cordia gum fared better than ZG in terms of peak viscosity, although ZG significantly reduced setback in comparison to CG. Among the various blends, the native WB sample had the lowest hardness (100 ± 4.9 g), while the freeze-dried WB SP sample had the greatest (175.5 ± 4.8 g). Shearing of starches broke up the granules into smaller pieces, which made them gel at lower temperatures. This could be a good thing when they are needed for food uses that require little cooking.

Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have attracted much attention as highly efficient, eco-friendly energy conversion devices. However, carbon-supported Pt (Pt/C) catalysts for PEMFCs still have several problems, such as low long-term stability, to be widely commercialized in fuel cell applications. To address the stability issues of Pt/C such as the dissolution, detachment, and agglomeration of Pt nanoparticles under harsh operating conditions, we design an interesting fabrication process to produce a highly active and durable Pt catalyst by introducing a robust carbon shell on the Pt surface. Furthermore, this approach provides insights into how to regulate the carbon shell layer for fuel cell applications. Through the application of an appropriate amount of H2 gas during heat treatment, the carbon shell pores, which are integral to the structure, can be systematically modulated to facilitate oxygen adsorption for the oxygen reduction reaction. Simultaneously, the carbon shell functions as a protective barrier, preventing catalyst degradation. In this regard, we investigate an in-depth analysis of the effects of critical parameters including H2 content and the flow rate of H2/N2 mixed gas during heat treatment to prepare better catalysts.

Thermoelectric power can convert heat and electricity directly and reversibly. Low-dimensional thermoelectric materials, particularly thin films, have been considered a breakthrough for separating electronic and thermal transport relationships. In this study, a series of Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 thin films with thicknesses of 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, and 1 μm have been fabricated by RF sputtering for the study of thickness effects on thermoelectric properties. We demonstrated that microstructure (texture) changes highly correlate with the growth thickness in the films, and equilibrium annealing significantly improves the thermoelectric performance, resulting in a remarkable enhancement in the thermoelectric performance. Consequently, the 0.5 μm thin films achieve an exceptional power factor of 18.1 μWcm−1K−2 at 400 K. Furthermore, we utilize a novel method that involves exfoliating a nanosized film and cutting with a focused ion beam, enabling precise in-plane thermal conductivity measurements through the 3ω method. We obtain the in-plane thermal conductivity as low as 0.3 Wm−1K−1, leading to a maximum ZT of 1.86, nearing room temperature. Our results provide significant insights into advanced thin-film thermoelectric design and fabrication, boosting high-performance systems.

(1) Background: Orthopedic surgery has been transformed by 3D-printed personalized instruments (3DP-PSIs), which enhance precision and reduce complications. Hospitals are adopting in-house 3D printing facilities, using cost-effective methods like Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) with materials like Polylactic acid (PLA) to create 3DP-PSI. PLA’s temperature limitations can be overcome by annealing High-Temperature PLA (ann-HTPLA), enabling steam sterilization without compromising properties. Our study examines the in vivo efficacy of ann-HTPLA 3DP-PSI in pediatric orthopedic surgery. (2) Methods: we investigated safety and efficacy using ann-HTPLA 3DP-PSI produced at an “in-office” 3D-printing Point-of-Care (3DP-PoC) aimed at correcting limb deformities in pediatric patients. Data on 3DP-PSI dimensions and printing parameters were collected, along with usability and complications. (3) Results: Eighty-three ann-HTPLA 3DP-PSIs were utilized in 33 patients (47 bone segments). The smallest guide used measured 3.8 cm3, and the largest measured 58.8 cm3. Seventy-nine PSIs (95.2%; 95% C.I.: 88.1–98.7%) demonstrated effective use without issues. Out of 47 procedures, 11 had complications, including 2 infections (4.3%; 95% CI: 0.5–14.5%). Intraoperative use of 3DP-PSIs did not significantly increase infection rates or other complications. (4) Conclusions: ann-HTPLA has proven satisfactory usability and safety as a suitable material for producing 3DP-PSI in an “in-office” 3DP-PoC.

In this study, we investigate the changes in the crystalline structure of MBE-deposited SrTiO3 layers on Si with different deviations from Sr/Ti stoichiometry as deposited but also after annealing at high temperatures (>600 °C). We show that as-grown 15 nm thick non-stochiometric SrTiO3 layers present surprisingly lower FWHM values of the (002) omega diffraction peak compared to fully stoichiometric layers of similar thickness. This can misleadingly point to superior crystalline quality of such non-stochiometric layers. However, thermal post-deposition anneals of these layers at temperatures up to 850 °C in oxygen show strong detrimental effects on the crystalline structure, surface and interface with the Si (001) substrate. On the contrary, the post-deposition anneals applied to the stoichiometric samples strongly improve the physical, optical and electrical properties of the epitaxial SrTiO3 thin films.

In recent years, antimony sulfide (Sb2S3) has been investigated as a photovoltaic absorber material due to its suitable absorber coefficient, direct band gap, extinction coefficient, earth-abundant, and environmentally friendly constituents. Therefore, this work proposes Sb2S3 film preparation by an effective two-step process using a new graphite box design and sulfur distribution, which has a high repeatability level and can be scalable. First, an Sb thin film was deposited using the RF-Sputtering technique, and after that, the samples were annealed with elemental sulfur into a graphite box, varying the sulfurization time from 20 to 50 min. The structural, optical, morphological, and chemical characteristics of the resulting thin films were analyzed. Results reveal the method’s effectivity and the best properties were obtained for the sample sulfurized during 40 min. This Sb2S3 thin film presents an orthorhombic crystalline structure, elongated grains, a band gap of 1.69 eV, a crystallite size of 15.25 Å, and a nearly stoichiometric composition. In addition, the formation of a p-n junction was achieved by depositing silver back contact on the Glass/FTO/CdS/Sb2S3 structure. Therefore, the graphite box design has been demonstrated to be functional to obtain Sb2S3 by a two-step process.

This study investigates the use of low molecular weight poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a plasticizer for poly(lactic acid) (PLA). PLA/PEG blend films were prepared using the solvent casting method with varying mixing ratios. The films were analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and dynamic rheological analysis. The results indicate that the addition of PEG as a plasticizer affects the thermal and mechanical properties of the PLA/PEG blend films. The study found that the glass transition and cold crystallization temperatures decreased with increasing PEG content up to 20 wt%, while the crystallinity and crystallization rate increased. The blends with up to 20 wt% PEG were miscible, but phase separation occurred when the plasticizer content was increased to 30 wt%. Subsequently, amorphous samples of neat PLA and PLA plasticized with 10 wt% of PEG underwent annealing at various temperatures (Ta = 80–120 °C) for durations ta of 1 and 24 h. The samples were then analyzed using DSC and DMA. The addition of PEG to PLA altered the content of α′ and α crystalline forms compared to neat PLA at a given (Ta; ta) and favored the formation of a mixture of α′ and α crystals. The crystallinity achieved upon annealing increased with increasing Ta or ta and with the incorporation of PEG.

A novel method of the hot consolidation metal powders with shear deformation is proposed. The powders were encapsulated into tight containers and compacted after short-term heating in a furnace preheated to 900 °C. The method prevents powder oxidation, peripheral spalling and ensures the removal of the oxide films from the powder surfaces. Commercial titanium powders of different dispersivities and impurity concentrations were hot-compacted. The microstructure, hardness and bending strength of the compacts were investigated. The compacts from fine PTOM-1 powder, containing 0.32% of hydrogen, reveal the greatest values of the hardness and bending strength. Additional annealing results in 60% increase in the bending strength.

The aim of this study was to investigate the photoactivity of dioxide titanium (TiO2) nanotube films depending on different structure factors including pore size, tube length, tube wall thickness and crystallinity. Aqueous p-nitroaniline was used as a probe to assess the photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide nanotube layers under UV irradiations. Self-organized titanium dioxide nanotube thin films were prepared by electrochemical anodization of titanium (Ti) foils and Ti thin films sputtered onto silicon (Si). The amorphous as-formed titanium nanotube layers were then annealed at different temperatures ranging from 450 to 900 °C in order to form crystalline phases. The structure and the morphology of the films were characterized by surface analysis techniques and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the resulting TiO2 thin films was evaluated by monitoring the UV degradation of p-nitroaniline by UV spectrophotometry and by determining nitrification yields of by ion chromatography. The highest photocatalytic activity was exhibited for titanium nanotubes annealed at 450 °C. The presence of rutile -obtained for an annealing temperature of 900 °C—appeared to reduce the photodegradation yield of p-nitroaniline. Finally, the TiO2 nanotubes obtained from Ti foils revealed the most efficient photocatalytic properties.

It was observed recently that the giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) effect in Fe-rich glass-coated amorphous microwires with positive magnetostriction can be improved significantly by means of post-annealing. The increase in the GMI is attributed to the induced helical magnetic anisotropy in the surface layer of the microwire, which appears after the annealing. The application of external stresses to the microwire may result in changes in its magnetic structure and affect the GMI response. In this work, we study theoretically the influence of the tensile and torsional stresses on the off-diagonal magnetoimpedance in annealed amorphous microwires with positive magnetostriction. The static magnetization distribution is analyzed in terms of the core–shell magnetic structure. The surface impedance tensor is obtained taking into account the magnetoelastic anisotropy induced by the external stresses. It is shown that the off-diagonal magnetoimpedance response exhibits strong sensitivity to the magnitude of the applied stress. The obtained results may be useful for sensor applications of amorphous microwires.

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has played a fundamental role in our understanding of the world, and has applications across a broad range of disciplines. The introduction of PCR into forensic science marked the beginning of a new era of DNA profiling. This era has pushed PCR to its limits and allowed genetic data to be generated from trace DNA. Trace samples contain very small amounts of degraded DNA associated with inhibitory compounds and ions. Despite significant development in the PCR process since it was first introduced, the challenges of profiling inhibited and degraded samples remain. This review examines the evolution of the PCR from its inception in the 1980s, through to its current application in forensic science. The driving factors behind PCR evolution for DNA profiling are discussed along with a critical comparison of cycling conditions used in commercial PCR kits. Newer PCR methods that are currently used in forensic practice and beyond are examined, and possible future directions of PCR for DNA profiling are evaluated.

High-nitrogen austenitic steel (HNS) cold-rolled with a reduction rate of 25% was subjected to an investigation of the effect of annealing temperature on microstructural evolution, tensile properties and the variation in fracture surface morphology. In cold-rolled HNS, matrix recovery occurred at an annealing temperature of 600 °C, and recrystallization was locally initiated at an annealing temperature of 800 °C. The 0.2% offset yield strength (0.2% YS) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) were almost constant up to an annealing temperature of 500 °C, and these values gradually decreased above the annealing temperature of 600 °C, while a sharp reduction in the percentage reduction in area (RA) occurred at the annealing temperatures of 600 and 700 °C due to Cr2N precipitation along the grain and twin boundaries. The ratio of 0.2% offset yield strength to ultimate tensile strength (0.2% YS/UTS) remained constant until matrix recovery took place; however, once recrystallization occurred, the ratio decreased significantly. Furthermore, the variation in the morphology of Cr2N along the grain boundaries in the annealing temperature range from 600 to 800 °C influenced the intergranular fracture morphology, resulting in a transition from dimple to ledge and back to dimple.

The nanoscale Cu-rich precipitates (CRPs) are one of the most critical microstructural features responsible for degrading the mechanical properties of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels. The prospect of the rapid regeneration of the service performance of degraded materials through electropulsing is attractive, and electropulsing has been proven to have the application potential to eliminate the CRPs and recover the mechanical properties of RPV materials. However, few studies have investigated the secondary service issue of electropulsing. This paper provides experimental findings from microstructural investigations and property evaluations of a FeCu RPV model alloy subjected to re-aging following recovery electropulsing and annealing treatments. The evolution behavior of CRPs and the changes in the hardness of the alloy during the re-aging process after electropulsing treatment were consistent with the initial aging process, while the re-aging process of the annealing treatment group was quite different from the initial aging. The difference between the electropulsing and annealing treatment groups was that the annealing treatment failed to eliminate the precipitates completely, leaving behind some large precipitates. This work demonstrates the potential application of EPT in this field.

The phase evolution, magnetic properties and microstructure of rod-shaped permanent magnets prepared by annealing the amorphous precursor Fe70−xNd7B21Zr2Nbx (x = 0–3.0) were systematically studied. X-ray diffraction analysis, magnetometer, microstructure and δM-plots studies show that the good magnetic properties of the magnet are attributed to the uniform microstructure composed of exchange-coupled α-Fe and Nd2Fe14B phases. Nb addition to Fe67.5Nd7B21Zr2Nb2.5 alloy led to an increase in the volume fraction of the soft magnetic phase, reinforced exchange coupling and improved magnetic properties. The magnetic properties of the optimized annealed Fe67.5Nd7B21Zr2Nb2.5 rod are: coercivity (Hci) = 513.92 kA/m, remanence (Br) = 0.58 T, squareness (Hk/Hci) = 0.24 and magnetic energy product ((BH)max) = 37.59 kJ/m3.

Stainless steel (SS) exhibits excellent ductility; however, its low strength hinders its practical applications. To achieve good synergy between strength and ductility, a heterogeneous structure was introduced into a newly developed nitrogen-alloyed low-nickel austenitic steel, QN1803. The received QN1803 was cold-rolled and annealed at 993 K for different durations, and the microstructural evolution and tensile mechanical properties were investigated. The yield strength (1130 MPa) of the QN1803 annealed at a temperature of 993 K for 15 min was approximately three times higher than that of the as-received sample (314 MPa). The short annealing time of 15 min yielded a heterogeneous structure with grain size distributions ranging from nanoscale to micron-scale. The annealed QN1803 exhibited typical dislocation cells and dislocation walls caused by slipping after cold rolling. During annealing, a step-like lamellar structure is formed. The high yield strength was obtained from the large number of twins and hard ultrafine grains. The good ductility is due to the large number of dislocations generated in the soft grains and the GNDs around the heterogeneous interfaces. Additionally, the lamella structure of the material also contributes to improved ductility to a certain degree. The aim of this paper is to develop new materials with both high yield strength and excellent toughness based on more economical materials cost.

CaZrO3 (CZO) thin films were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates at 450 °C by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering technology. The microstructures and dielectric properties of CZO thin films were investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the perovskite orthogonal CZO phase would be promoted by a higher O2 partial pressure in the flow ratio of O2/Ar after thin films were annealed at 700 °C for 3 h in air. The films prepared under the flow ratio of O2/Ar (20:40, 30:40 and 40:40) show the main perovskite crystal phase of CaZrO3 with a small amount of Ca0.2Zr0.8O1.8. The main crystal phase was Ca0.2Zr0.8O1.8 when the film was deposited under an O2/Ar ratio of 40:10. The annealed film with a 40:40 O2/Ar ratio exhibits a dielectric performance with a high dielectric constant (εr) of 25 at 1 MHz, a temperature coefficient of permittivity of not more than 122.7 ppm/°C from 0 °C to 125 °C, and a low leakage current density of about 2 × 10−7 A/cm2 at 30 V with an ohmic conduction mechanism.

The phase transition of austenitic stainless steel of commercial label CL20ES and zinc ferrite nanoparticles was studied in an oxidative atmosphere of dry air to develop a low-cost, effective technique for covering-layer fabrication. CL20ES powder and zinc ferrite powder were mechanically mixed. This mixture was studied in an atmosphere of dry air at different annealing temperatures from room temperature to 900 °C. The employed characterization techniques are X-ray powder diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy in the transmission geometry, and scanning electron microscopy with elemental mapping. The fabricated layers were also characterized by surface-specific techniques such as conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy and grazing incidence X-ray powder diffraction. The analyzed powder mixture shows resistance against oxidation in dry air and high temperatures. These results were employed to produce zinc ferrite covering layers on 3D-printed cylinders of CL20ES. The results show a predisposition of zinc ferrite to be recrystallized at temperatures above 350 °C without the production of corrosive substances on steel. The zinc ferrite layers were analyzed by an ultrasonic hardness tester as well, which proved the hardness enhancement.

The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of different single or dual physical treatments, including pre-gelatinization (PBF), annealing (ANN), PBF+ANN, and ANN+PBF, on banana flour’s characteristics and its application in gluten-free chip production. The study involved determining the color, swelling capacity, solubility, oil absorption index, and pasting properties of both the native and modified banana flour samples. The results showed a significant change in color, particularly in the pre-gelatinized samples. There was a noticeable decrease in the values of the pasting parameters in the modified samples. PBF samples exhibited a remarkable reduction in the breakdown value compared to the native and ANN treated samples. Furthermore, PBF-treated banana flour displayed higher oil absorption and swelling power than the other samples, along with lower solubility in the PBF-treated sample. These characteristics appear to be responsible for enabling the pre-gelatinized sample to form the dough required for producing banana chips, resulting in distinct texture profiles. Finally, our research emphasizes the useful application of modified banana flour in the food industry and emphasizes how crucial it is to choose the right modification method to achieve the desired effects on the product.

This study investigated the effect of annealing treatment on the stability of soy protein isolate (SPI) during storage. Different SPI samples with varying denaturation levels were subjected to varying annealing temperatures and durations before being stored at 37 °C for 12 weeks to assess their stability. Our findings revealed that annealing at 65 °C for 30 min significantly mitigated protein deterioration, improving the stability of highly denatured proteins during storage. Surface hydrophobicity and endogenous fluorescence analyses indicated that this annealing condition induced protein structure unfolding, an initial increase in SPI hydrophobicity, and a blue shift in the maximum absorption wavelength (λmax). The slowest increase in hydrophobicity occurred during storage, along with a red shift in the maximum absorption wavelength by the 12th week. These results suggest that annealing treatment holds promise for mitigating the issue of reduced SPI stability during storage.

We investigate the microstructural evolution of electrochemically deposited poly-crystalline Cu films during subsequent thermal process cycles at mild maximum temperatures, compatible with the integration in advanced metallization schemes for electronic device manufacturing. The modifications induced by the thermal budget have been characterized at different scales (from the film-substrate interface to the wafer scale) with different complementary techniques: X-ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and dynamical warpage measurements. Moreover, the film internal grains’ evolution has been modelled by a tri-dimensional on-cell model, derived by the Pott-like multi-states configurational energy dependence, able to consider multiple orientation of the grains and densification kinetics in the canonical ensemble. Finally, a macroscopic model of the warpage dependence on the process conditions is discussed. The presented joint theoretical and experimental analysis provides a complete and consistent scenario of the grain densification phenomenon and its impact for the Cu film microstructure and the composite system morphology, indicating several strategies for the integration of the process in real device structures.

The as-cast (Fe50Mn30Co10Cr10)97C2Mo1 HEA (high entropy alloy) was prepared and cold-rolled at 70%. Subsequently, annealing heat treatment at different temperatures (900 °C, 950 °C, 1000 °C) was carried out. The microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the HEA were systematically investigated. The results showed that the HEA annealed at 900 °C and 950 °C exhibited uneven grain size and rich σ precipitation phase at grain boundaries. The grains began to grow and complete recrystallization, and no σ phases were observed in HEA annealed at 1000 °C, which resulted in a higher tensile strength of ~885 MPa and elongation of ~68% compared with other annealed HEAs. The higher volume fraction of annealing twins with 60° orientation was produced in HEA annealed at 1000 °C, which enhanced the tensile strength and plasticity via the Twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) mechanism.

A more sustainable use of plastic parts makes it necessary to replace current plastic parts with recyclable components, also allowing the modulation of the part properties through the process. Injection molding is one of the most widely used technologies for obtaining rigid plastic parts, so it is crucial to understand how to tailor properties by adopting the correct processing conditions. One way is to perform annealing steps directly inside the mold: in-mold annealing improves the structural integrity and durability of the material, reduces defects, increases the resistance of parts against certain chemicals, reduces wear and tear, increases ductility, and lowers brittleness. In this work, several in-mold annealing steps were conducted, changing the mold temperature and annealing duration selected on the basis of the half crystallization time of the adopted isotactic polypropylene. The typical molded part morphology, composed of oriented layers at the surface, transition zones, and spherulitic core, is strongly affected by in-mold annealing. In particular, the thickness of the oriented layer, which forms in the early phase of the process, decreases, and the spherulites increase in size. Concerning mechanical behavior, the orientation degree mostly determines the elastic modulus value close to the surface, whereas the conditions under which crystallization occurs determine the modulus in the core.

This study explores the suitability of (Cd,Mn)Te and (Cd,Mn)(Te,Se) as room-temperature X-ray and gamma-ray detector materials, grown using the Bridgman method. The investigation compares their crystal structure, mechanical and optical properties, and radiation detection capabilities. Both crystals can yield large-area single crystal samples measuring approximately 30 × 30 mm2. In low-temperature photoluminescence analysis, both materials showed defect states, and annealing in cadmium vapors effectively eliminated donor–acceptor pair luminescence in (Cd,Mn)Te but not in (Cd,Mn)(Te,Se). Moreover, harder (Cd,Mn)(Te,Se) exhibited a higher etch pit density compared to softer (Cd,Mn)Te. X-ray diffraction examination revealed uniform lattice constant distribution in both compounds, with variations at a part per million level. (Cd,Mn)Te crystals demonstrated excellent single crystal properties with narrower omega scan widths, while (Cd,Mn)(Te,Se) exhibited a high contribution of block-like structures with significantly larger misorientation angles. Spectroscopic evaluations revealed better performance of a pixelated (Cd,Mn)Te detector, in comparison to (Cd,Mn)(Te,Se), achieving a mean full width at half maximum of 14% for the 122 keV gamma peak of Co-57. The reduced performance of the (Cd,Mn)(Te,Se) detector may be attributed to deep trap-related luminescence or block-like structures with larger misorientation angles. In conclusion, Bridgman-grown (Cd,Mn)Te emerges as a more promising material for X-ray and gamma-ray detectors when compared to (Cd,Mn)(Te,Se).

This paper presents the physicochemical characteristics of CeF3 nanopowder (NP) obtained via electron evaporation. The initial NP was annealed in air (200–500 °C) for 30 min. The annealed NP was evaluated using the following methods: X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), differential scanning calorimetry-thermogravimetry (DSC-TG) and luminescence/magnetic measurements. The degree of cytotoxicity of CeF3 nanoparticles (NPles) to cell cultures was determined. The cubic phase CeO2 formed in CeF3 NP after annealing (500 °C). The appearance of the CeO2 oxide phase led to an increase in the intensity of photoluminescence. Cathodoluminescence was not excited. The paramagnetic response of NPles decreased with an increase in the annealing temperature. Cerium fluoride NPles showed low cytotoxicity towards cancerous and non-cancerous cells. Annealing of the CeF3 NP at low temperatures led to an improvement in the textural parameters of the not annealed NP. Improved texture parameters indicate the prospect of using CeF3 as a biomedicine nanocontainer.

Polycrystalline zinc selenide (ZnSe) and Cr2+ or Fe2+ doped ZnSe are key optical elements in mid-infrared laser systems. The laser-induced damage of the optical elements is the limiting factor for increasing the power and pulse energy of the lasers. In the present work, the optical damage of the ZnSe, Cr2+:ZnSe, and Fe2+:ZnSe samples induced by a repetitively pulsed Ho3+:YAG laser at 2091 nm was studied. The probability of the optical damage and the laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) were determined for the samples manufactured using different processing techniques. The highest LIDT was found in ZnSe samples annealed in an argon atmosphere. It was also found that the samples annealed in a zinc atmosphere or with hot isostatic pressing resulted in a decrease in the LIDT. The Cr2+-doped ZnSe had the lowest LIDT at 2.1 µm compared to Fe2+-doped or undoped ZnSe. The LIDT fluence of all tested ZnSe samples decreased with the increase in the pulse repetition rate and the exposure duration. The results obtained may be used to improve the treatment procedures of ZnSe, Cr2+:ZnSe, and Fe2+:ZnSe polycrystals to further increase their LIDT.

Polymer extrusions are employed in the fabrication of crucial parts for automotive, aerospace, and other mechanical applications. The use of fillers and microfibers is contributing to the advancement of material extrusion polymers. In order to enhance their mechanical characteristics, printed materials undergo a post-heating process utilizing microwaves. Specimens were fabricated using polylactic acid filaments containing 2 wt% aluminum. Two sets of specimens were fabricated and subjected to testing in order to evaluate the features of extruded specimens and specimens that underwent post-heating. In terms of mechanical performance, specimens subjected to post-heating exhibited superior results compared to specimens merely subjected to extrusion. The tensile, flexural, and Shore D hardness properties of the specimens exhibited improvements of 5.07, 6.16, and 1.32%, respectively, after being subjected to heating. Furthermore, the wear rate decreased by 13.58 percent. The results of the regression analysis indicate that the print angle and the air gap exhibit the greatest influence on the observed responses. The validation test outcomes exhibit a high level of concordance with the predicted findings. The mechanical and surface properties of components extruded with filler-added material are enhanced by subsequent heating.

The SA516 Gr.70 steel possessing excellent toughness and plasticity has been widely used in the cryogenic field. However, the appearance of coarse bainite in the heat affected zone (HAZ) of the fusion welded joint deteriorates the toughness and ductility. In this work, 4.5 mm thick SA516 Gr.70 steel was joined using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and friction stir welding (FSW), respectively, and the microstructure and mechanical properties of joints were investigated in detail. The Charpy energy in the HAZ in the FSW joint was 80 J/cm2, which was higher than that of the HAZ in the SMAW joint (60 J/cm2) and due to microstructure refinement. In addition, the total elongation (TE) of the SMAW joint was 17.5%, which was higher than that of the FSW joint (12.1%) and caused by a wider nugget zone with high hardness. The post-welding annealing was used to improve the toughness and ductility of the SMAW and FSW joints, and the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joints after annealing were analyzed. The toughness in the HAZ of the SMAW and FSW joints were 80 and 103 J/cm2, and the TE of the SMAW and FSW joints were 18.6% and 25.2%, respectively. Finally, the as-annealed FSW joints exhibited excellent toughness and ductility. The abovementioned excellent mechanical properties were primarily attributed to the appearance of tempering martensite, decrease in dislocation density, and fine grain.

The synthesis of β-Ga2O3 ceramic was achieved using high-energy electron beams for the first time. The irradiation of gallium oxide powder in a copper crucible using a 1.4 MeV electron beam resulted in a monolithic ceramic structure, eliminating powder particles and imperfections. The synthesized β-Ga2O3 ceramic exhibited a close-to-ideal composition of O/Ga in a 3:2 ratio. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed a monoclinic structure (space group C2/m) that matched the reference diagram before and after annealing. Photoluminescence spectra revealed multiple luminescence peaks at blue (~2.7 eV) and UV (3.3, 3.4, 3.8 eV) wavelengths for the synthesized ceramic and commercial crystals. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the bonding modes in the synthesized ceramic. The electron beam-assisted method offers a rapid and cost-effective approach for β-Ga2O3 ceramic production without requiring additional equipment or complex manipulations. This method holds promise for fabricating refractory ceramics with high melting points, both doped and undoped.

Steel slag waste produced by the steel industry accumulates in open areas or is disposed of in landfills, causing harm to the environment and human health. Valorizing steel slag through comprehensive data analysis is imperative and could add value to the product with respect to energy conversion and storage applications. This study investigated the morphological, structural, and optical characteristics of a thermally annealed steel slag composite generated from iron and steel factories. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and UV–visible spectrophotometry were subsequently used to evaluate the impact of thermal treatment on the morphology, structure, elemental composition, and optical properties. It was found that the pre-treated slag composites contained a variety of irregular grain sizes and microscale fragments, primarily composed of C (18.55%), O (50.85%), and Fe (29.41%), with lower amounts of Mg (0.31%), Si (0.44%), and Ca (0.44%), indicating the natural formation of a disordered iron composite. Thermal treatment at different temperatures (300 °C, 600 °C, and 900 °C) increased the grain density and clustering, resulting in denser two-dimensional microstructures at 900 °C. Additionally, XRD and Raman analyses of both untreated and thermally treated slag composites revealed the presence of a disordered iron oxide composite, including (Fe3O4), hematite (α-Fe2O3), and maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) phases. A significant increase in optical absorbance was also observed after annealing at 600 °C, highlighting the successful optimization of the elemental composition of the slag composite. A band gap energy of approximately 2.2 eV was obtained from this optimization at 600 °C. The optical conductivity of the composite reached 2.1 × 106 S−1 at 600 °C, which indicates an enhancement in charge transfer among the optimized chemical elements in the waste composite. These findings suggest an optimization method for novel composites derived from steel slag waste, indicating its potential as a low-cost material for energy storage systems (batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells) and optoelectronic devices.

Practical applications of Li-metal anodes are limited by dendrite formation, Li loss, and poor reaction, resulting in a low Coulombic efficiency. In this study, we investigated the effects of island-shaped Ag atoms on the electrochemical behavior of Li-metal anodes. A Ag–Cu film was co-deposited through sputtering and subsequent annealing to anchor the Ag atoms with an island shape on a Cu substrate. The Ag target was co-sputtered with Cu with controlled atomic ratios in the Ag–Cu alloy. The sputtering thickness was set to 100 nm, and various annealing conditions were applied. The embedded island-shaped Ag atoms provided effective nucleation sites for Li deposition during the electrochemical nucleation of Li, increasing the nucleation density and spatial uniformity while decreasing the nucleation size and potential. Compact dendrite-free high-density Li deposition was achieved by annealing the Ag–Cu current collector (CC) at 600 °C. Under repetitive Li plating and stripping for 110 cycles at a current density of 0.5 mAcm−2 and capacity of 1 mAhcm−2, a high Coulombic efficiency of 98.5% was achieved. Conversely, the bare Cu CC had a life of up to 67 cycles under the same test conditions.

This study investigates the mechanical properties of exceptionally high-strength steel produced by wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), using the 304 stainless steel wire and the low carbon wire (LCS). The study found that annealing treatment can enhance the steel’s mechanical properties. The microstructure in the LCS layer changed from ferrite to bainite and then to a mixture of austenite, pearlite, and bainite with increasing annealing temperature. In contrast, the SS layer retained its martensitic structure, albeit with altered lath sizes. The annealing treatment also improved the orientation of the grains in the steel. The optimal annealing temperature observed for the steel was 900 ℃, which resulted in a maximum tensile strength of 1176 MPa along the Y direction and 1255 MPa along the Z direction. Despite the superior mechanical properties, the LCS layer still exhibited failure during tensile testing due to its lower hardness. The study suggests that annealing treatment can be a useful technique for enhancing the mechanical properties of high-strength steel in WAAM applications.

This article presents an enhanced method for synthesizing β-SiC on a silicon substrate, utilizing porous silicon as a buffer layer, followed by thermal carbide formation. This approach ensured strong adhesion of the SiC film to the substrate, facilitating the creation of a hybrid hetero-structure of SiC/por-Si/mono-Si. The surface morphology of the SiC film revealed islands measuring 2–6 μm in diameter, with detected micropores that were 70–80 nm in size. An XRD analysis confirmed the presence of spectra from crystalline silicon and crystalline silicon carbide in cubic symmetry. The observed shift in spectra to the low-frequency zone indicated the formation of nanostructures, correlating with our SEM analysis results. These research outcomes present prospects for the further utilization and optimization of β-SiC synthesis technology for electronic device development.

In this study, Al21Co22Cr22Fe13Ni22 high-entropy coatings were produced on steel substrates by non-vacuum electron beam cladding of Co, Cr, and NiAl powders. The high-temperature oxidation behavior of the coatings was studied by holding the specimens at 900 °C in air. The microstructure and phase constitution of the samples were studied both in the as-cladded state and after the heat treatment. The microstructure was characterized using light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Synchrotron X-ray diffraction (SXRD) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were used to study the phase constitution of the coatings and the “coating-substrate” interface. The coating consisted of disordered bcc (A2), ordered bcc (B2), and disordered fcc (A1) phases. Annealing the coatings for 50 h at 900 °C led to the formation of fcc precipitates in the bcc dendritic grains and a mixture of fcc and σ-phase particles in the interdendritic regions. Needle-like nanosized B2-precipitates were formed due to annealing in the fcc grains at the coating/substrate interface. The microhardness at the top of the as-cladded coating was 585 HV and gradually decreased towards the substrate. A more uniform distribution of the microhardness was obtained after the annealing. Its average value was 441 HV. Rhomboid Cr2O3, needle-like Al2O3, and spinels of a different morphology were found on the surface of the samples after oxidation at 900 °C.

Powder metallurgy stands out as a preferred manufacturing method across various industries due to its advantages in design flexibility, material efficiency, and cost-effective production. In this work, we study the influence of different compaction directions on the strength characteristics of parts produced using powder metallurgy. Al–4 wt.%Cu alloys are used due to their recyclability. We use three distinctive compaction pressures. After sintering, samples are either air-cooled or water-quenched and naturally aged (T4 temper). Both the compressive and tensile strengths are characterized and thoroughly analyzed. This research highlights the significant impact of both heat treatments and compaction directions on anisotropic strengths. The novelty of this research lies in the use of powders that can be reclaimed from machining, turning, or foundry rejections. By eliminating or minimizing the melting stage and employing powder metallurgy, we achieve cost-effective and environmentally friendly processes. Furthermore, we underscore the critical role played by careful planning of compaction loads, compaction directions, and heat treatments in determining the final mechanical performance. This approach is not only economically viable but also aligns with the growing adoption of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in industry.

In this study, we utilized a hybridization approach for two different fibers to overcome the drawbacks of single-fiber-reinforced PLA composites. Coir fiber and bamboo leaf fiber were used as reinforcing natural fibers as their properties complement one another. Additionally, we combined thermal annealing with hybridization techniques to further improve the overall properties of the composites. The results showed that the hybridization of BF: CF with a ratio of 1:2 gave PLA-based hybrid composites optimal mechanical and thermal properties. Furthermore, the improvement in the thermal stability of hybrid composites, attributable to an increase in crystallinity, was a result of thermal annealing. The improvement in HDT in annealed 1BF:2CF hybrid composite was about 13.76% higher than that of the neat PLA. Annealing of the composites led to increased crystallinity, which was confirmed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The synergistic effect of hybridization and annealing, leading to the improvement in the thermal properties, opened up the possibilities for the use of PLA-based composites. In this study, we demonstrated that a combined technique can be utilized as a strategy for improving the properties of 100% biocomposites and help overcome some limitations of the use of PLA in many applications.

This study investigated the effects of annealing on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and electrical conductivity (EC) of AA4043 rods produced through the Properzi CCR process. Annealing was conducted at two temperatures (200 °C and 300 °C) for 4 h. Characterization techniques were performed on the rod samples, including optical microscopy, EBSD, microhardness, tensile tests, and EC measurements. The results showed a significant improvement in EC with decreased mechanical strength during annealing. The sample annealed at 300 °C exhibited the most favorable combination of EC (57.48% IACS), microhardness (41 HV), and ultimate tensile strength (124 MPa). Furthermore, the image analysis revealed slight alterations in the shape factors of eutectic Si particles with increasing annealing temperature. In addition, EBSD results demonstrated that the annealing promoted the recrystallization process.

Magnetic phase transitions in alloys are highly influenced by the sample preparation techniques. In the present research, electronic and magnetic properties of Fe48Cr3Rh49 alloys with varying cooling rates were studied, both experimentally and theoretically. The degree of crystalline ordering was found to depend on the cooling rate employed after annealing the alloy. Modeling of alloy structures with different degrees of crystalline ordering was carried out via strategic selection of substitution positions and distances between chromium atoms. Theoretical calculations revealed significant changes in magnetic and electronic properties of the alloy with different substitutions. A comprehensive analysis of the calculated and experimental data established correlations between structural characteristics and parameters governing the magnetic phase transition. In this study, we also developed a method for evaluating the magnetic properties of the alloys obtained under different heat treatments. The proposed approach integrates atom substitution and heat treatment parameters, offering precise control over alloy manufacturing to effectively tune their essential magnetic properties.

The effects of treatment time of continuous annealing (ANN) and cycle numbers of cycled ANN on the structural, physicochemical, and digestive properties of water caltrop starch were studied under 70% moisture at 65 °C. It was found that continuous and cycled ANN have no significant effects on the morphology of starch granules. However, the relative crystallinity and content of resistant starch increased pronouncedly, possibly due to crystalline perfection, which also led to the rise in gelatinization temperature and the narrowed gelatinization temperature range of starch. The treatment time in continuous ANN generally showed a pronounced effect on the rheological properties of water caltrop starch. During pasting, the breakdown viscosity and setback viscosity of all treatment decreased, implying that ANN modified starch was less susceptible to the condition in heating and continuous shearing, and less likely to cause short-term retrogradation. In contrast, peak viscosity decreased with increasing treatment time of continuous ANN, indicating crystalline perfection restricted the swelling of starch granules and viscosity development during pasting process, which was consistent with the results of steady and dynamic rheological evaluation. All ANN-modified samples showed pseudoplastic behavior with weak gel viscoelastic characteristic. Under a total annealing time of 96 h, the pasting and rheological properties of water caltrop starch were essentially less affected by annealing cycle numbers. However, multistage ANN showed stronger resistance to enzyme hydrolysis.
