Hypopituitarism in leukemia is very rare. In addition, central nervous system (cns) relapse and leukemic retinopathy in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (all) have declined with the use of modern systemic chemotherapy that includes cns prophylaxis. Here, we report the case of a 4-year-old girl who received chemotherapy and intrathecal therapy without cns radiation after a diagnosis of B-precursor all without cns involvement. Three months after chemotherapy completion, she presented with lower-extremity weakness and was diagnosed with an isolated cns relapse. Concurrent hypopituitarism and leukemic retinopathy were also found. After receiving craniospinal radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy, her retinopathy and vision improved. She is now in complete remission, and she is still on chemotherapy according to the guideline from the Pediatric Oncology Group. Although rare, hypopituitarism and leukemic retinopathy should be taken into consideration in patients with cns involvement by leukemia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Although APPL1 is overexpressed in many cancers, its status in gastric cancer (GC) is not known. In the present study, we used relevant pathologic and clinical data to investigate APPL1 expression in patients with GC. Methods In 47 GC and 27 non-GC surgical specimens, immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of APPL1, and reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to detect messenger rna (mRNA). A scatterplot visualized the relationship between survival time and mRNA expression in GC patients. The log-rank test and other survival statistics were used to determine the association of APPL1 expression with the pathologic features of the cancer and clinical outcomes. Results In GC, APPL1 was expressed in 28 of 47 specimens (59.6%), and in non-GC, it was expressed in 7 of 23 specimens (30.4%, p < 0.05). The expression of mRNA in GC was 0.82 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.78 to 0.86], and in non-GC, it was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.69 to 0.77; p < 0.05). Immunohistochemistry demonstrated that, in GC, APPL1 expression was correlated with depth of infiltration (p = 0.005), lymph node metastasis (p = 0.017), and TNM stage (p = 0.022), but not with pathologic type (p = 0.41). Testing by RT-PCR demonstrated that, in GC, APPL1 mRNA expression was correlated with depth of infiltration (p = 0.042), lymph node metastasis (p = 0.031), and TNM stage (p = 0.04), but again, not with pathologic type (p = 0.98). The correlation coefficient between survival time and mRNA expression was -0.83 (p < 0.01). Overexpression of APPL1 protein (hazard ratio: 3.88; 95% ci: 1.07 to 14.09) and mRNA (hazard ratio: 4.23; 95% ci: 3.09 to 15.11) was a risk factor for death in patients with GC. Imatinib has improved outcomes in patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Minimal residual disease (MRD) is a useful tool for predicting leukemia relapse. However, there is no consensus on how to treat children with elevation of BCR-ABL transcripts but no evidence of hematologic relapse during chemotherapy combined with imatinib. Here, we report the case of a child with Ph+ ALL who had persistent elevation of mrd, but no evidence of hematologic relapse while receiving imatinib plus intensive chemotherapy. Dasatinib was substituted for imatinib because no suitable donor for allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) was available. Less-intensive chemotherapy with methotrexate and 6-mercaptopurine was administered concomitantly. No serious adverse events were encountered. With continuous dasatinib combined with chemotherapy, but no allogeneic HSCT, our patient reached complete molecular remission and has been in complete molecular remission for more than 13 months. This report is the first about the long-term use of dasatinib in patients with Ph+ ALL and MRD elevation but hematologic remission during imatinib chemotherapy. In a similar situation, chemotherapy combined with dasatinib instead of allogeneic HSCT could be considered to avoid HSCT-related mortality and morbidity. Clinical trials are needed. The effect of laser irradiation with different numbers of laser shots on the microstructure, the surface, and the hardness of gun metal alloy was studied by a KrF pulsed excimer laser system, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Vickers hardness test. The influence of 100–500 laser shots was irradiated on the surface hardness profile and on the microstructure of gunmetal alloy. XRD results showed the maximum 2θ shift, the maximum full width of half maximum FWHM, the maximum dislocation density, and the minimum crystallite size for the sample irradiated with 300 laser shots. The hardness was measured in three different regions at the laser irradiated spot, and it was found that maximum hardness was present at the heat affected zone for all samples. The hardness value of the un-irradiated sample of gun metal was 180, and the value increased up to 237 by raising the number of laser shots up to 300. The peak value of surface hardness of the laser treated sample was 32% higher than the un-irradiated sample. The Raman shift of the un-exposed sample was 605 cm−1 and shifted to a higher value of wave number at 635 cm−1 at 300 laser shots. The hardness value was decreased by further increasing the number of laser shots up to 500. The samples irradiated with 400 and 500 laser shots exhibited smaller hardness and dislocation defect density, which was assigned to possible annealing caused by irradiation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, both AZ91 alloy and nano-SiCp/AZ91 composite were subjected to multi-pass forging under varying passes and temperatures. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy were compared with its composite. After six passes of multi-pass forging at a constant temperature of 400 ℃, complete recrystallization occurred in both the AZ91 alloy and composite. The decrease of temperature and the increase of passes for the multi-pass forging led to further refinement of dynamic recrystallized grains and dynamic precipitation of second phases. The grain size of the nano-SiCp/AZ91 composite was smaller than that of the AZ91 alloy under the same multi-pass forging condition, which indicated that the addition of SiC nanoparticles were beneficial to grain refinement by pinning the grain boundaries. The texture intensity for the 12 passes of multi-pass forging with varying temperatures was increased compared with that after nine passes. The ultimate tensile strength is slightly decreased while the yield strength was increased unobviously for the AZ91 alloy with the decrease of temperature and the increase of the passes for the multi-pass forging. Under the same condition of multi-pass forging, the yield strength of the composite was higher than that of the AZ91 alloy due to the Orowan strengthening effect and grain refinement strengthening resulting from externally applied SiC nanoparticles and internally precipitated second phases. By comparing the microstructure and mechanical properties between the AZ91 alloy and nano-SiCp/AZ91 composite, the strength-toughness properties of the composites at room temperature were affected by the matrix grain size, texture evolution, SiC nanoparticles distribution and the precipitated second phases. Despite the fact that doping nanoparticles into insulating transformer oil has proven to be an effective method of enhancing its dielectric and electrical properties, it remains unclear how different types and surface conditions of nanoparticles may affect their dielectric and electrical properties. Therefore, the effect of doping various types of BN nanoparticles (nanosphere, nanotube, and nanosheet) in insulating mineral oil (MO) on the diffusion properties of water molecules and electrical properties across the BN/MO interface was investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) simulations. Our results show that different surface morphology and grafted functional groups in different types of BN nanoparticles have a significant impact both on the water diffusion behavior and the interfacial potential barrier across the interface between BN and MO. In the MO system directly doped by BN nanospheres, water diffusion behavior is not significantly restricted. However, grafting -NH 2 polar groups onto the BN nanoparticle surface may significantly limit the diffusion behavior of water due to the strong attraction between the -NH 2 polar groups and water molecules; the most significant effect is with nanospheres, followed by nanotubes and nanosheets. In terms of electrical properties across the interface between BN and MO, the h-BN surface (derived from BN nanosheets and nanotubes) acts as a trap for electrons in MO (-0.59 eV), while the c-BN surface (derived from BN nanospheres) acts as a potential barrier for electrons in MO (1.45 eV), and it is noteworthy that the presence of water molecules near the interface between BN and MO has little impact on the potential barriers. Advancing a fundamental understanding of the electrical and water diffusion properties of MO in correlation with the surface morphology of different types of nanoparticles is key to improving the insulation properties of oil-impregnated power transformers.

Non-dairy creamer is a class of microencapsulated powdered fats and oils that are widely used in the food industry. However, the oils used in it are hydrogenated vegetable oils, which contain large amounts of saturated fatty acids and are extremely harmful to the human body. This study investigated the effects of replacing hydrogenated vegetable oil with walnut oil to prepare walnut non-dairy creamer on lipid levels and intestinal microorganisms in mice. The results show that low-dose walnut non-dairy creamer significantly decreased the contents of TC and TG in serum and increased the content of HDL-C ( p < 0.01). The contents of MDA, ALT, and AST were significantly decreased, while the content of SOD was increased ( p < 0.01). The abundance of Firmicutes in the walnut non-dairy creamer group decreased, and the abundance of Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes (B/F) increased, which significantly increased the richness of Lactobacillus and Oscillospira ( p < 0.01). Allobaculum richness was significantly decreased ( p < 0.01). In conclusion, a low dose of walnut non-dairy creamer can effectively promote the metabolism of blood lipids in vivo, alleviate oxidative stress injury and lipid accumulation damage to mouse hepatocytes, and ameliorate the adverse effects of a high-fat diet on the intestinal microbiota of mice. This study provides a theoretical basis for the replacement of traditional non-dairy creamer and the research and development of walnut deep processing.

In the environment of smoke and suspended particles, the accurate detection of targets is one of the difficulties for frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) laser fuzes to work properly in harsh conditions. To weaken and eliminate the significant influence caused by the interaction of different systems in the photon transmission process and the smoke particle environment, it is necessary to increase the amplitude of the target echo signal to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), which contributes to enhancing the detection performance of the laser fuze for the ground target in the smoke. Under these conditions, the particle transmission of photons in the smoke environment is studied from the perspective of three-dimentional (3D) collisions between photons and smoke particles, and the modeling and Unity3D simulation of FMCW laser echo signal based on 3D particle collision is conducted. On this basis, a laser fuze structure based on multiple channel beam emission is designed for the combined effect of particle features from different systems and its impact on the target characteristics is researched. Simulation results show that the multiple channel laser emission enhances the laser target echo signal amplitude and also improves the anti-interference ability against the combined effects of multiple particle features compared with the single channel. Through the validation based on the laser prototype with four-channel beam emitting, the above conclusions are supported by the experimental results. Therefore, this study not only reveals the laser target properties under the 3D particle collision perspective, but also reflects the reasonableness and effectiveness of utilizing the target characteristics in the 3D particle collision mode to enhance the detection performance of FMCW laser fuze in the smoke.

Phalaenopsis orchids, with their unique appearance and extended flowering period, are among the most commercially valuable Orchidaceae worldwide. Particularly, the variegation in leaf color of Phalaenopsis significantly enhances the ornamental and economic value and knowledge of the molecular mechanism of leaf-color variegation in Phalaenopsis is lacking. In this study, an integrative analysis of the physiology, cytology, and transcriptome profiles was performed on Phalaenopsis Chia E Yenlin Variegata leaves between the green region (GR) and yellow region (YR) within the same leaf. The total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents in the YR exhibited a marked decrease of 72.18% and 90.21%, respectively, relative to the GR. Examination of the ultrastructure showed that the chloroplasts of the YR were fewer and smaller and exhibited indistinct stromal lamellae, ruptured thylakoids, and irregularly arranged plastoglobuli. The transcriptome sequencing between the GR and YR led to a total of 3793 differentially expressed genes, consisting of 1769 upregulated genes and 2024 downregulated genes. Among these, the chlorophyll-biosynthesis-related genes HEMA , CHLH , CRD , and CAO showed downregulation, while the chlorophyll-degradation-related gene SGR had an upregulated expression in the YR. Plant-hormone-related genes and transcription factors MYBs (37), NACs (21), ERFs (20), bHLH (13), and GLK (2), with a significant difference, were also analyzed. Furthermore, qRT-PCR experiments validated the above results. The present work establishes a genetic foundation for future studies of leaf-pigment mutations and may help to improve the economic and breeding values of Phalaenopsis .

Due to the limitations on the depth of field of high-resolution fluorescence microscope, it is difficult to obtain an image with all objects in focus. The existing image fusion methods suffer from blocking effects or out-of-focus fluorescence. The proposed multi-focus image fusion method based on local maximum luminosity, intensity variance and the information filling method can reconstruct the all-in-focus image. Moreover, the depth of tissue's surface can be estimated to reconstruct the 3D surface model.

The increasingly complex electromagnetic environment of modern warfare and the proliferation of intelligent jamming threaten to reduce the survival rate of radio fuzes on the battlefield. Radio frequency (RF) stealth technology can fundamentally improve the anti-interception and reconnaissance capabilities of radio fuzes, thereby lessening the probability of them being intercepted, recognized, and jammed by the enemy. In this paper, an RF stealth waveform based on chaotic pulse-position modulation is proposed for ultra-wideband (UWB) radio fuzes. Adding a perturbation signal based on the Tent map ensures that the chaotic sequences have sufficiently long periods despite hardware byte limitations. Measuring the approximate entropy and sequence period shows that the Tent map with the addition of perturbation signals can maintain good randomness under byte constraints, closely approximating the Tent map with ideal precision. Simulations verify that the proposed chaotic mapping used to modulate the pulse position of an ultra-wideband radio fuze signal results in superior detection, anti-interception, and anti-jamming performance.

Persimmon fruits are brightly colored and nutritious and are fruits that contain large amounts of sugar, vitamins, mineral elements, and phenolic substances. The aim of this study was to explore the differences in fruit-sugar components of different persimmon germplasms and their relationships with phenotypic and flavor indices through the determination of phenotypes and sugar components and through electronic-tongue indices, which provided the basis and inspiration for the selection of different sugar-accumulating types of persimmon fruits and the selection of high-sugar persimmon varieties. Our results showed that persimmon germplasm fruit-sugar components were dominated by sucrose, glucose and fructose and that the remaining sugar components were more diverse but less distributed among the various germplasm types. Based on the proportion of each sugar component in the fruit, persimmon germplasms can be categorized into sucrose-accumulating and reduced-sugar-accumulation types. Sucrose-accumulating types are dominated by sucrose, galactose, fucose and inositol, while reduced-sugar-accumulation types are dominated by glucose, fructose, mannose-6-phosphate, and xylose. The content of sugar components in the germplasm persimmon of fruits of different types and maturity periods of also differed, with significant differences in sugar components between PCNA (pollination-constant non-astringent) and PCA (pollination-constant astringent) fruits. Cluster analysis classified 81 persimmon germplasms into three clusters, including cluster I-A, with low glucose and fructose content, and cluster I-B, with medium glucose, fructose, and sucrose contents. Cluster II was high in sucrose and fructose. Cluster III had high contents of glucose and fructose and low contents of sucrose and inositol.

The significant deposition of tail fat in sheep has a profound impact on the economic benefits of animal husbandry. Furthermore, increasing the litter size is a crucial means of enhancing economic benefits. The BMPR1B and T / Brachyury genes are considered major functional genes that could affect sheep litter size and tail bone number, respectively. In this study, we employed direct sequencing to identify specific mutations of the BMPR1B gene in Gobi short tail sheep and carried out genotyping using MassARRAY technology for each variant of both the BMPR1B and T genes. Significant associations were demonstrated between the c.687G>A mutation of BMPR1B and the litter size in both the Gobi short tail sheep and Ujimqin sheep breeds. Meanwhile, the g.30058882&#95;30058873GCAGATTAAAIndel mutation was significantly associated with the litter size in Gobi short tail sheep. These findings may provide valuable genetic markers for expanding sheep litter size. In addition, we also confirmed that the frequency of tail-bone-number-related T alleles was significantly higher in Gobi short tail sheep than in longer-tailed Ujimqin sheep.

Carrier-free nanoparticulate formulations are an advantageous platform for the oral administration of insoluble drugs with the expectation of improving their bioavailability. However, the key limitation of exploiting carrier-free nanoparticulate formulations is the controlled preparation of drug nanoparticles on the basis of rational prescription design. In the following study, we used curcumin (Cur) and piperine (Pip) as model water-insoluble drugs and developed a new method for the controlled preparation of carrier-free drug nanoparticles via multidrug co-assembly in a high-gravity environment. Encouraged by the controlled regulation of the nucleation and crystal growth rate of high-gravity technology accomplished by a rotating packed bed, co-amorphous Cur-Pip co-assembled multidrug nanoparticles with a uniform particle size of 130 nm were successfully prepared, exhibiting significantly enhanced dissolution performance and in vitro cytotoxicity. Moreover, the hydrogen bonding interactions between Cur and Pip in nanoparticles provide them with excellent re-dispersibility and storage stability. Moreover, the oral bioavailability of Cur was dramatically enhanced as a result of the smaller particle size of the co-assembled nanoparticles and the effective metabolic inhibitory effect of Pip. The present study provides a controlled approach to preparing a carrier-free nanoparticulate formulation through a multidrug co-assembly process in the high-gravity field to improve the oral bioavailability of insoluble drugs.

The manufacture of damping alloy parts with stable damping properties and high mechanical performances in the selective laser melting (SLM) process is influenced by temperature evolution and residual stress distribution. Choosing an appropriate scanning strategy, namely the specific trajectory along which the laser head scans powders within given area, is crucial, but clearly defined criteria for scanning strategy design are lacking. In this study, a three-dimensional finite element model (FEM) of the SLM process for manufacturing a WE43 alloy component was established and validated against the published experimental data. Eleven different scanning strategies were designed and simulated, considering variables such as scanning track length, direction, Out-In or In-Out strategy, start point, and interlayer variation. The results showed that scanning strategy, geometry, and layer number collectively affect temperature, melt pool, and stress outputs. For instance, starting scanning at a colder part of the powder layer could lead to a high peak temperature and low melt pool depth. A higher layer number generally results in lower cooling rate, a lower temperature gradient, a longer melt pool life, and larger melt pool dimensions. Changing the start point between scanning circulations helps mitigate detrimental residual stress. This work highlights the potential of analyzing various scanning strategy-related variables, which contributes to reducing trial-and-error tests and selecting optimal scanning strategies under different product quality requirements. This article can assist in the design of appropriate scanning strategies to prevent defects such as element loss due to evaporation, poor bonding, and deformation or cracking from high residual stress. Additionally, identifying stress concentration locations and understanding the effects of geometry and layer number on thermal and mechanical behaviors can assist in geometry design.

Curcumin (Cur) is a phytochemical with various beneficial properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. However, its hydrophobicity, poor bioavailability, and stability limit its application in many biological approaches. In this study, a novel amphiphilic chitosan wall material was synthesized. The process was carried out via grafting chitosan with succinic anhydride (SA) as a hydrophilic group and deoxycholic acid (DA) as a hydrophobic group; 1 H-NMR, FTIR, and XRD were employed to characterize the amphiphilic chitosan (CS-SA-DA). Using a low-cost, inorganic solvent-based procedure, CS-SA-DA was self-assembled to load Cur nanomicelles. This amphiphilic polymer formed self-assembled micelles with a core-shell structure and a critical micelle concentration (CMC) of 0.093 mg·mL -1 . Cur-loaded nanomicelles were prepared by self-assembly and characterized by the Nano Particle Size Potential Analyzer and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mean particle size of the spherical Cur-loaded micelles was 770 nm. The drug entrapment efficiency and loading capacities were up to 80.80 ± 0.99% and 19.02 ± 0.46%, respectively. The in vitro release profiles of curcumin from micelles showed a constant release of the active drug molecule. Cytotoxicity studies and toxicity tests for zebrafish exhibited the comparable efficacy and safety of this delivery system. Moreover, the results showed that the entrapment of curcumin in micelles improves its stability, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a common clinical pharmacogenic disease. In the United States and Europe, DILI is the most common cause of acute liver failure. Drugs can cause hepatic damage either directly through inherent hepatotoxic properties or indirectly by inducing oxidative stress, immune responses, and inflammatory processes. These pathways can culminate in hepatocyte necrosis. The role of the gut microecology in human health and diseases is well recognized. Recent studies have revealed that the imbalance in the gut microecology is closely related to the occurrence and development of DILI. The gut microecology plays an important role in liver injury caused by different drugs. Recent research has revealed significant changes in the composition, relative abundance, and distribution of gut microbiota in both patients and animal models with DILI. Imbalance in the gut microecology causes intestinal barrier destruction and microorganism translocation; the alteration in microbial metabolites may initiate or aggravate DILI, and regulation and control of intestinal microbiota can effectively mitigate drug-induced liver injury. In this paper, we provide an overview on the present knowledge of the mechanisms by which DILI occurs, the common drugs that cause DILI, the gut microbiota and gut barrier composition, and the effects of the gut microbiota and gut barrier on DILI, emphasizing the contribution of the gut microecology to DILI.

We assessed the feasibility of implementing a virtually guided Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) protocol over the tibialis anterior (TA) muscle while collecting heart rate (HR), Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), and quality of contraction (QoC) data. We investigated if HR, NPRS, and QoC differ ON and OFF the TA motor point and explored potential relationships between heart rate variability (HRV) and the NPRS. Twelve healthy adults participated in this cross-sectional study. Three NMES trials were delivered ON and OFF the TA motor point. HR, QoC, and NPRS data were collected. There was no significant difference in HRV ON and OFF the motor point ( p > 0.05). The NPRS was significantly greater OFF the motor point ( p < 0.05). The QoC was significantly different between motor point configurations ( p < 0.05). There was no correlation between the NPRS and HRV ( p > 0.05, r = -0.129). We recommend non-electrical methods of measuring muscle activity for future studies. The NPRS and QoC can be administered virtually. Time-domain HRV measures could increase the validity of the protocol. The variables should be explored further virtually to enhance the protocol before eventual ICU studies.

Rubber concrete has been applied to a certain extent in fatigue-resistant structures due to its good durability. Based on a cohesive model of rubber composed of a five-phase material containing mortar, aggregate, rubber, aggregate-mortar interfacial transition zone (ITZ), and rubber-mortar ITZ, this paper studies the influence of the cohesive parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ on the fatigue problem of rubber concrete on the mesoscopic scale. As the weak part of cement-based composite materials, the ITZ has a great influence on the mechanical properties and durability of concrete, but the performance of the ITZ is difficult to test in macro experiments, resulting in difficulties in determining its simulation parameters. Based on the cohesive model with a rubber content of 5%, this study uses Monofactor analysis and the Plackett-Burman test to quickly and effectively determine the primary and secondary influences of the cohesive model parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ; further, the response surface method is used to optimize the cohesive parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ, and the numerical simulation results after optimizing the cohesive parameters are compared and analyzed with the simulation results before optimization. The results show that, under the setting of the optimized parameters, the simulation results of each item of the optimal cohesive model parameters in the rubber-mortar ITZ are in line with the reality and closer to the experimental data, and they are also applicable to rubber concrete models with different rubber dosing.

Due to the lower cost compared to screen-printed silver contacts, the Ni/Cu/Ag contacts formed by plating have been continuously studied as a potential metallization technology for solar cells. To address the adhesion issue of backside grid lines in electroplated n-Tunnel Oxide Passivating Contacts (n-TOPCon) solar cells and reduce ohmic contact, we propose a novel approach of adding a Ni/Si alloy seed layer between the Ni and Si layers. The metal nickel layer is deposited on the backside of the solar cells using electron beam evaporation, and excess nickel is removed by H 2 SO 4 :H 2 O 2 etchant under annealing conditions of 300-425 °C to form a seed layer. The adhesion strength increased by more than 0.5 N mm -1 and the contact resistance dropped by 0.5 mΩ cm 2 in comparison to the traditional direct plating Ni/Cu/Ag method. This is because the resulting Ni/Si alloy has outstanding electrical conductivity, and the produced Ni/Si alloy has higher adhesion over direct contact between the nickel-silicon interface, as well as enhanced surface roughness. The results showed that at an annealing temperature of 375 °C, the main compound formed was NiSi, with a contact resistance of 1 mΩ cm -2 and a maximum gate line adhesion of 2.7 N mm -1 . This method proposes a new technical solution for cost reduction and efficiency improvement of n-TOPCon solar cells.

The significant impact of Nb on ferrite transformation, both in terms of solute drag effect (SDE) and interphase precipitation, was investigated quantitatively. Ferrite transformation kinetics were characterized using thermal expansion experiments and theoretical calculations. The microstructures were characterized using high-temperature confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), a field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), and a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Under a higher driving force, interphase precipitations were observed in the sample with a higher Nb content. A three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction method was used to convert the two-dimensional (2D) image of interphase precipitation into a three-dimensional model for a more typical view. The SDE and interphase precipitation had opposite effects on the kinetics of ferrite transformation. A lower Nb content showed a strong contribution to the SDE, which delayed ferrite transformation. A higher concentration of Nb was expected to enhance the SDE, but the inhibition effect was eliminated by the interphase precipitation of NbC during interfacial migration. Both the experimental results and theoretical calculations confirmed this phenomenon.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic still threatens human health around the world. The methyltransferases (MTases) of SARS-CoV-2, specifically nsp14 and nsp16, play crucial roles in the methylation of the N7 and 2'-O positions of viral RNA, making them promising targets for the development of antiviral drugs. In this work, we performed structure-based virtual screening for nsp14 and nsp16 using the screening workflow (HTVS, SP, XP) of Schrödinger 2019 software, and we carried out biochemical assays and molecular dynamics simulation for the identification of potential MTase inhibitors. For nsp14, we screened 239,000 molecules, leading to the identification of three hits A1-A3 showing N7-MTase inhibition rates greater than 60% under a concentration of 50 µM. For the SAM binding and nsp10-16 interface sites of nsp16, the screening of 210,000 and 237,000 molecules, respectively, from ZINC15 led to the discovery of three hit compounds B1-B3 exhibiting more than 45% of 2'-O-MTase inhibition under 50 µM. These six compounds with moderate MTase inhibitory activities could be used as novel candidates for the further development of anti-SARS-CoV-2 drugs.

Aflatoxins (AFs) including AFB 1 , AFB 2 , AFG 1 and AFG 2 are widely found in agriculture products, and AFB 1 is considered one of the most toxic and harmful mycotoxins. Herein, a highly sensitive (at the pg mL -1 level) and group-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of AFB 1 in agricultural and aquiculture products was developed. The AFB 1 derivative containing a carboxylic group was synthesized and covalently linked to bovine serum albumin (BSA). The AFB 1 -BSA conjugate was used as an immunogen to immunize mice. A high-quality monoclonal antibody (mAb) against AFB 1 was produced by hybridoma technology, and the mAb-based ELISA for AFB 1 was established. IC 50 and limit of detection (LOD) of the ELISA for AFB 1 were 90 pg mL -1 and 18 pg mL -1 , respectively. The cross-reactivities (CRs) of the assay with AFB 2 , AFG 1 , and AFG 2 were 23.6%, 42.5%, and 1.9%, respectively, revealing some degree of group specificity. Corn flour, wheat flour, and crab roe samples spiked with different contents of AFB 1 were subjected to ELISA procedures. The recoveries and relative standard deviation (RSD) of the ELISA for AFB 1 in spiked samples were 78.3-116.6% and 1.49-13.21% ( n = 3), respectively. Wheat flour samples spiked with the mixed AF (AFB 1 , AFB 2 , AFG 1 , AFG 2 ) standard solution were measured by ELISA and LC-MS/MS simultaneously. It was demonstrated that the proposed ELISA can be used as a screening method for evaluation of AFs (AFB 1 , AFB 2 , AFG 1 , AFG 2 ) in wheat flour samples.

Dye/salt separation has gained increasing attention in recent years, prompting the quest to find cost-effective and environmentally friendly raw materials for synthesizing high performance nanofiltration (NF) membrane for effective dye/salt separation. Herein, a high-performance loose-structured NF membrane was fabricated via a simple vacuum filtration method using a green nanomaterial, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxide radical (TEMPO)-oxidized cellulose nanofiber (TOCNF), by sequentially filtrating larger-sized and finer-sized TOCNFs on a microporous substrate, followed by crosslinking with trimesoyl chloride. The resulting TCM membrane possessed a separating layer composed entirely of pure TOCNF, eliminating the need for other polymer or nanomaterial additives. TCM membranes exhibit high performance and effective dye/salt selectivity. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis shows that the TCM membrane with the Fine-TOCNF layer has a tight layered structure. Further characterizations via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the presence of functional groups and chemical bonds of the crosslinked membrane. Notably, the optimized TCM-5 membrane exhibits a rejection rate of over 99% for various dyes (Congo red and orange yellow) and 14.2% for NaCl, showcasing a potential candidate for efficient dye wastewater treatment.

In cation-anion co-doping, rare earth elements excel at regulating the electronic structure of perovskites, leading to their improved photocatalytic performance. In this regard, the impact of co-doping rare earth elements at the Ba and Ti sites in BaTiO 3 on its electronic and photocatalytic properties was thoroughly investigated based on 2 × 2 × 2 supercell structures of BaTiO 3 with different La concentrations of 12.5% and 25% using DFT calculations. The band structure, density of states, charge density difference, optical properties, and the redox band edge of the co-doped models mentioned above were analyzed. The results indicated that the BaTiO 3 structure co-doped with 25% La at the Ti site exhibited higher absorption in the visible range and displayed a remarkable photocatalytic water-splitting performance. The introduced La dopant at the Ti site effectively reduced the energy required for electronic transitions by introducing intermediate energy levels within the bandgap. Our calculations and findings of this study provide theoretical support and reliable predictions for the exploration of BaTiO 3 perovskites with superior photocatalytic performances.

The interplay between the immune system and cancer underscores the central role of immunotherapy in cancer treatment. In this context, the innate immune system plays a critical role in preventing tumor invasion. Myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) is crucial for innate immunity, and activation of MyD88 promotes the production of inflammatory cytokines and induces infiltration, polarization, and immune escape of immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. Additionally, abnormal MyD88 signaling induces tumor cell proliferation and metastasis, which are closely associated with poor prognosis. Therefore, MyD88 could serve as a novel tumor biomarker and is a promising target for cancer therapy. Current strategies targeting MyD88 including inhibition of signaling pathways and protein multimerization, have made substantial progress, especially in inflammatory diseases and chronic inflammation-induced cancers. However, the specific role of MyD88 in regulating tumor immunity and tumorigenic mechanisms remains unclear. Therefore, this review describes the involvement of MyD88 in tumor immune escape and disease therapy. In addition, classical and non-classical MyD88 inhibitors were collated to provide insights into potential cancer treatment strategies. Despite several challenges and complexities, targeting MyD88 is a promising avenue for improving cancer treatment and has the potential to revolutionize patient outcomes.

The remaining useful life (RUL) prediction of RF circuits is an important tool for circuit reliability. Data-driven-based approaches do not require knowledge of the failure mechanism and reduce the dependence on knowledge of complex circuits, and thus can effectively realize RUL prediction. This manuscript proposes a novel RUL prediction method based on a gated recurrent unit-convolutional neural network (GRU-CNN). Firstly, the data are normalized to improve the efficiency of the algorithm; secondly, the degradation of the circuit is evaluated using the hybrid health score based on the Euclidean and Manhattan distances; then, the life cycle of the RF circuits is segmented based on the hybrid health scores; and finally, an RUL prediction is carried out for the circuits at each stage using the GRU-CNN model. The results show that the RMSE of the GRU-CNN model in the normal operation stage is only 3/5 of that of the GRU and CNN models, while the prediction uncertainty is minimized.

The molecular weight (MW) of an enzyme is a critical parameter in enzyme-constrained models (ecModels). It is determined by two factors: the presence of subunits and the abundance of each subunit. Although the number of subunits (NS) can potentially be obtained from UniProt, this information is not readily available for most proteins. In this study, we addressed this gap by extracting and curating subunit information from the UniProt database to establish a robust benchmark dataset. Subsequently, we propose a novel model named DeepSub, which leverages the protein language model and Bi-directional Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), to predict NS in homo-oligomers solely based on protein sequences. DeepSub demonstrates remarkable accuracy, achieving an accuracy rate as high as 0.967, surpassing the performance of QUEEN. To validate the effectiveness of DeepSub, we performed predictions for protein homo-oligomers that have been reported in the literature but are not documented in the UniProt database. Examples include homoserine dehydrogenase from Corynebacterium glutamicum , Matrilin-4 from Mus musculus and Homo sapiens , and the Multimerins protein family from M. musculus and H. sapiens . The predicted results align closely with the reported findings in the literature, underscoring the reliability and utility of DeepSub.

Structural rolled steels are the primary products of modern ferrous metallurgy. Consequently, enhancing the mechanical properties of rolled steel using energy-saving processing routes without furnace heating for additional heat treatment is advisable. This study compared the effect on the mechanical properties of structural steel for different processing routes, like conventional hot rolling, normalizing rolling, thermo-mechanically controlled processing (TMCP), and TMCP with accelerating cooling (AC) to 550 °C or 460 °C. The material studied was a 20 mm-thick sheet of S355N grade (EN 10025) made of low-carbon (V+Nb+Al)-micro-alloyed steel. The research methodology included standard mechanical testing and microstructure characterization using optical microscopy, scanning and transmission electronic microscopies, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction. It was found that using different processing routes could increase the mechanical properties of the steel sheets from S355N to S550QL1 grade without additional heat treatment costs. TMCP followed by AC to 550 °C ensured the best combination of strength and cold-temperature resistance due to formation of a quasi-polygonal/acicular ferrite structure with minor fractions of dispersed pearlite and martensite/austenite islands. The contribution of different structural factors to the yield tensile strength and ductile-brittle transition temperature of steel was analyzed using theoretical calculations. The calculated results complied well with the experimental data. The effectiveness of the cost-saving processing routes which may bring definite economic benefits is concluded.

The present investigation endeavors to explore the influence of rare earth elements on the strength and plasticity characteristics of low-carbon microalloyed steel under tensile loading conditions. The findings from the conducted tensile tests indicate that the incorporation of rare earths leads to a notable enhancement in the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and ductility properties of the steel. A comparative analysis of the microstructures reveals that the presence of rare earths significantly refines and optimizes the microstructure of the microalloyed steel. This optimization is manifested through a reduction in grain size, diminution of inclusion sizes, and a concomitant rise in their number density. Moreover, the addition of rare earths is observed to foster an increase in the volumetric fraction of carbides within the steel matrix. These multifaceted microstructural alterations collectively contribute to a substantial strengthening of the microalloyed steel. Furthermore, it is elucidated that the synergistic interaction between rare earth elements and both carbon (C) and niobium (Nb) in the steel matrix augments the extent of the Lüders strain region during the tensile deformation of specimens. This phenomenon is accompanied by the effective modification of inclusions by the rare earths, which serves to mitigate stress concentrations at the interfaces between the inclusions and the surrounding matrix. This article systematically evaluates the modification mechanism of rare earth microalloying, which provides a basis for broadening the application of rare earth microalloying in microalloyed steel.

This study focuses on exploring the effects of niobium (Nb)-microalloying on the properties of steel for ultra-high-strength bridge cables during hot-rolling processes. We employed a combination of dual-pass compression tests, stress-strain curve analysis, and Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) techniques to investigate the influence of Nb-microalloying on the static recrystallization behavior and grain size of the steel. The key findings reveal that Nb-microalloying effectively inhibits static recrystallization, particularly at higher temperatures, significantly reducing the volume fraction of recrystallized grains, resulting in a finer grain size and enhanced deformation resistance. Secondly, at a deformation temperature of 975 °C, Nb-containing steel exhibited finer grain sizes compared to Nb-free steel when held for 10 to 50 s; however, the grain size growth accelerated when the hold time exceeded 50 s, likely linked to the increased deformation resistance induced by Nb. Lastly, this research proposes optimal hot-rolling process parameters for new bridge cable steel, recommending specific finishing rolling temperatures and inter-pass times for both Nb-containing and Nb-free steels during the roughing and finishing stages. This study suggests optimal hot-rolling parameters for both Nb-containing and Nb-free steels, providing essential insights for improving hot-rolling and microalloying processes in high-carbon steels for bridge cables.

Lipophagy is a selective autophagy that regulates lipid metabolism and reduces hepatic lipid deposition. However, the underlying mechanism has not been understood in fish. In this study, we used micronutrient zinc (Zn) as a regulator of autophagy and lipid metabolism and found that Ras-related protein 7 ( rab7 ) was involved in Zn-induced lipophagy in hepatocytes of yellow catfish Pelteobagrus pelteobagrus . We then characterized the rab7 promoter and identified binding sites for a series of transcription factors, including Forkhead box O3 (FOXO3). Site mutation experiments showed that the -1358/-1369 bp FOXO3 binding site was responsible for Zn-induced transcriptional activation of rab7 . Further studies showed that inhibition of rab7 significantly inhibited Zn-induced lipid degradation by lipophagy. Moreover, rab7 inhibitor also mitigated the Zn-induced increase of cpt1α and acadm expression. Our results suggested that Zn exerts its lipid-lowering effect partly through rab7 -mediated lipophagy and FA β-oxidation in hepatocytes. Overall, our findings provide novel insights into the FOXO3/ rab7 axis in lipophagy regulation and enhance the understanding of lipid metabolism by micronutrient Zn, which may help to reduce excessive lipid accumulation in fish.

The oriental armyworm, Mythimna separata (Walker), an important migratory pest of maize and wheat, is posing a severe threat to maize production in Asian countries. As source areas of spring-summer emigratory populations, the control of M. separata in southwestern China is of great significance for East Asian maize production. To assess the toxicity of Bt maize against the pest, bioassays of Bt-(Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa) maize (event DBN3601T), Bt-Cry1Ab maize (event DBN9936), and Bt-Vip3Aa maize (event DBN9501) were conducted in Yunnan province of southwest China. There were significant differences in insecticidal activity between the three Bt maize events, and DBN3601T presented the highest insecticidal role. The results also indicated that the insecticidal effect of various Bt maize tissues took an order in leaf > kernel > silk, which is highly consistent with the expression amounts of Bt insecticidal protein in leaf (69.69 ± 1.18 μg/g), kernel (11.69 ± 0.75 μg/g), and silk (7.32 ± 0.31 μg/g). In field trials, all larval population densities, plant damage rates, and leaf damage levels of DBN3601T maize were significantly lower than the conventional maize. This research indicated that the DBN3601T event had a high control efficiency against M. separata and could be deployed in southwest China for the management of M. separata .

The phase transformation temperature plays an important role in the design, production and heat treatment process of steels. In the present work, an improved version of the gradient-boosting method LightGBM has been utilized to study the influencing factors of the four phase transformation temperatures, namely Ac1, Ac3, the martensite transformation start (MS) temperature and the bainitic transformation start (BS) temperature. The effects of the alloying element were discussed in detail by comparing their influencing mechanisms on different phase transformation temperatures. The training accuracy was significantly improved by further introducing appropriate features related to atomic parameters. The melting temperature and coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the pure metals corresponding to the alloying elements, atomic Waber-Cromer pseudopotential radii and valence electron number were the top four among the eighteen atomic parameters used to improve the trained model performance. The training and prediction processes were analyzed using a partial dependence plot (PDP) and Shapley additive explanation (SHAP) methods to reveal the relationships between the features and phase transformation temperature.

Eating disorders are a group of psychiatric conditions that involve pathological relationships between patients and food. The most prolific of these disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. The current standard of care involves psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and the management of comorbid conditions, with nutritional rehabilitation reserved for severe cases of anorexia nervosa. Unfortunately, many patients often fail to respond, leaving a concerning treatment gap between the current and requisite treatments for eating disorders. To better understand the neurobiology underlying these eating disorders, investigations have been undertaken to characterize the activity of various neural networks, primarily those activated during tasks of executive inhibition, reward processing, and self-reference. Various neuromodulatory techniques have been proposed to stimulate these networks with the goal of improving patients' BMI and mental health. The aim of this review is to compile a comprehensive summarization of the current literature regarding the underlying neural connectivity of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder as well as the numerous neuromodulatory modalities that have been investigated. Importantly, we aimed to summarize the most significant clinical trials to date as well as to provide an updated assessment of the role of deep brain stimulation, summarizing numerous recently published clinical studies that have greatly contributed to the literature. In this review, we found therapeutic evidence for transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation in treating individuals suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. We also found significant evidence for the role of deep brain stimulation, particularly as an escalatory therapy option for the those who failed standard therapy. Finally, we hope to provide promising directions for future clinical investigations.

Despite the notable achievements of programmed death 1 (PD-1) antibodies in treating various cancers, the overall efficacy remains limited in the majority of colorectal cancer (CRC) cases. Metabolism reprogramming of tumors inhibits the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, leading to down-regulation of fumarate hydratase (FH), which is related to poor prognosis in CRC patients. By establishing a tumor-bearing mouse model of CRC with Fh1 expression deficiency, we confirmed that the therapeutic effect of PD-1 antibodies alone was suboptimal in mice with low Fh1 expression, which was improved by combination with a protein invertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor. Mechanistically, FH binds to Ras-related nucleoprotein (RAN), which inhibits the nuclear import of the PCSK9 transcription factor SREBF1/2, thus reducing the expression of PCSK9. This leads to increased clonal expansion of CD8+ T cells while the number of Tregs remains unchanged, and the expression of PD-L1 does not change significantly, thus enhancing the immunotherapy response. On the contrary, the expression of PCSK9 increased in CRC cells with low FH expression, which antagonized the effects of immunotherapy. Overall, CRC patients with low FH expression may benefit from combinatorial therapy with PD-1 antibodies and PCSK9 inhibitors to enhance the curative effect.

Paralipsa gularis (Zeller) is a storage pest; however, in recent years it has evolved into a considerable maize pest during the late growth stage in the border region between China and other Southeast Asian countries. Bt transgenic insect-resistant maize is an effective measure in controlling a wide range of lepidopteran pests, but there is a lack of research on the toxic effects of storage pests. We tested the toxicity of Bt-Cry1Ab, Vip3Aa, and their complex proteins against P. gularis via bioassay and investigated the efficiency of Bt-(Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa) maize in controlling P. gularis during the late growth stage of maize in the period 2022-2023. The bioassay results show that the susceptibilities of P. gularis to the two Bt proteins and their complex proteins were significantly different. The LC 50 values of DBNCry1Ab ("DBN9936" event), DBNVip3Aa ("DBN9501" event), DBN Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa ("DBN3601T" event), and Syngenta Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa ("Bt11" event × "MIR162" event) were 0.038 μg/g, 0.114 μg/g, 0.110 μg/g, and 0.147 μg/g, and the GIC 50 values were 0.014 μg/g, 0.073 μg/g, 0.027 μg/g, and 0.026 μg/g, respectively. Determination of the expression content of the insecticidal protein in different tissues of Bt-(Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa) maize shows that the total Bt protein content in different tissues was in the following order: stalk > bract > cob > kernel. However, the bioassay results show that the mortalities of P. gularis feeding on Bt-(Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa) maize in different tissues at different growth stages were all above 93.00%. The field trial indicates that the occurrence density of larvae and plant damage rate for conventional maize were 422.10 individuals/100 plants and 94.40%, respectively, whereas no larvae were found on Bt-(Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa) maize. In summary, this study implies that Bt-(Cry1Ab+Vip3Aa) maize has a high potential for control of P. gularis , providing a new technical measure for the management of the pest.

Tuberculosis (TB), a respiratory disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), is a significant cause of mortality worldwide. The lung, a breeding ground for Mtb, was once thought to be a sterile environment, but has now been found to host its own profile of microbes. These microbes are critical in the development of the host immune system and can produce metabolites that aid in host defense against various pathogens. Mtb infection as well as antibiotics can shift the microbial profile, causing dysbiosis and dampening the host immune response. Additionally, increasing cases of drug resistant TB have impacted the success rates of the traditional therapies of isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol. Recent years have produced tremendous research into the human microbiome and its role in contributing to or attenuating disease processes. Potential treatments aimed at altering the gut-lung bacterial axis may offer promising results against drug resistant TB and help mitigate the effects of TB.

Chilean peppers, cultivated from Capsicum pubescens , are globally renowned as popular vegetable and spice crops. C. pubescens belongs to the Capsicum L. (pepper) family and is one of the five pepper cultivars grown in China. In this study, we assembled and annotated the complete mt genome of C. pubescens . We investigated several aspects of its genome, including characteristics, codon usage, RNA editing sites, repeat sequences, selective pressure, gene clusters, and phylogenetic relationships. Furthermore, we compared it with other plant mt genomes. The data we obtained will provide valuable information for studying evolutionary processes in the Capsicum genus and will assist in the functional analysis of Capsicum mitogenomes.

Collagen is an important biopolymer widely used in food, cosmetics and biomedical applications. Understanding the effect of pH on the structure and properties of collagen is beneficial for its further processing and exploitation. In this study, greenfin horse-faced filefish skin collagen (GHSC) was prepared and identified as a type I collagen. We systematically investigated the effect of pH on the structural, functional and rheological properties of GHSC. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the collagen morphology changed from an ordered stacked sheet structure to a rough silk-like structure as pH increased. Gaussian-fitted Fourier infrared spectroscopy results of the collagen revealed that it unfolded with increasing pH. Moreover, the ordered structure was reduced, and random coils became the dominant conformation. Its β-sheet and random coil contents increased from 18.43 ± 0.08 and 33.62 ± 0.17 to 19.72 ± 0.02 and 39.53 ± 1.03%, respectively, with increasing pH. α-helices and β-turns decreased from 35.00 ± 0.26 and 12.95 ± 0.01 to 29.39 ± 0.92 and 11.36 ± 0.10%, respectively. The increase in β-sheets and random coils allowed the pI-treated collagen to exhibit maximum water contact angle. The emulsification and foaming properties decreased and then increased with increasing pH in a V-shape. The increased net surface charge and β-sheets in collagen benefited its emulsification and foaming properties. The rheological results showed that the protoprotein exhibited shear-thinning properties in all pH ranges. The collagen solutions showed liquid-like behaviour in low-pH (2, 4) solutions and solid-like behaviour in high-pH (6, 7.83 and 10) solutions. Moreover, the frequency-dependent properties of the storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G″) of the collagen solutions weakened with increasing pH. Collagen has considerable frequency-dependent properties of G' and G″ at low pH (2, 4). Thus, the importance of collagen raw material preparation for subsequent processing was emphasised, which may provide new insights into applying collagen-based materials in food, biomaterials and tissue engineering.

Molecular-assisted breeding is an effective way to improve targeted agronomic traits. dep1 ( dense and erect panicle 1 ) is a pleiotropic gene that regulates yield, quality, disease resistance, and stress tolerance, traits that are of great value in rice ( Oryza sativa L.) breeding. In this study, a colorimetric LAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplification) assay was developed for the detection of the dep1 allele and tested for the screening and selection of the heavy-panicle hybrid rice elite restorer line SHUHUI498, modified with the allele. InDel (Insertion and Deletion) primers (DEP1&#95;F and DEP1&#95;R) and LAMP primers (F3, B3, FIP, and BIP) for genotyping were designed using the Primer3 Plus (version 3.3.0) and PrimerExplore (version 5) software. Our results showed that both InDel and LAMP markers could be used for accurate genotyping. After incubation at a constant temperature of 65 °C for 60 min with hydroxynaphthol blue (HNB) as a color indicator, the color of the LAMP assay containing the dep1 allele changed to sky blue. The SHUHUI498 rice line that was detected in our LAMP assay displayed phenotypes consistent with the dep1 allele such as having a more compact plant architecture, straight stems and leaves, and a significant increase in the number of effective panicles and spikelets, demonstrating the effectiveness of our method in screening for the dep1 allele in rice breeding.

This paper investigates joint beamforming in a secure integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) system assisted by reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). The system communicates with legitimate downlink users, detecting a potential target, which is a potential eavesdropper attempting to intercept the downlink communication information from the base station (BS) to legitimate users. To enhance the physical-layer secrecy of the system, we design and introduce interference signals at the BS to disrupt eavesdroppers' attempts to intercept legitimate communication information. The BS simultaneously transmits communication and interference signals, both utilized for communication and sensing to guarantee the sensing and communication quality. By jointly optimizing the BS active beamformer and the RIS passive beamforming matrix, we aim to maximize the achievable secrecy rate and radiation power of the system. We develop an effective scheme to find the active beamforming matrix through fractional programming (FP) and semi-definite programming (SDP) techniques and obtain the RIS phase shift matrix via a local search technique. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods in enhancing communication and sensing performance. Additionally, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of introducing the interference signals and RIS in enhancing the physical-layer secrecy of the ISAC system.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease characterized by the immune system attacking self hair follicles, mainly in the scalp. There is no complete cure, and the pathogenesis is still not fully understood. Here, sequencing of skin tissues collected from 1-month-old coarse- and fine-wool lambs identified miR-199a-3p as the only small RNA significantly overexpressed in the fine-wool group, suggesting a role in hair follicle development. MiR-199a-3p expression was concentrated in the dermal papillae cells of sheep hair follicles, along with enhanced β-catenin expression and the inhibition of PTPRF protein expression. We also successfully constructed a mouse model of alopecia areata by intracutaneous injection with an miR-199a-3p antagomir. Injection of the miR-199a-3p agomir resulted in hair growth and earlier anagen entry. Conversely, local injection with the miR-199a-3p antagomir resulted in suppressed hair growth at the injection site, upregulation of immune system-related genes, and downregulation of hair follicle development-related genes. In vivo and in vitro analyses demonstrated that miR-199a-3p regulates hair follicle development through the PTPRF/β-catenin axis. In conclusion, a mouse model of alopecia areata was successfully established by downregulation of a small RNA, suggesting the potential value of miR-199a-3p in the study of alopecia diseases. The regulatory role of miR-199a-3p in the PTPRF/β-catenin axis was confirmed, further demonstrating the link between alopecia areata and the Wnt-signaling pathway.

To achieve omnidirectional sensitive detection of partial discharge (PD) in transformers and to avoid missing PD signals, a fiber optic omnidirectional sensing method for PD in transformers combined with the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity is proposed. The fiber optic omnidirectional sensor for PD as a triangular prism was developed. The hollow structure of the probe was used to insert a single-mode fiber to form an F-P cavity. In addition, the three sides of the probe were used to form a diaphragm-type FBG sensing structure. The ultrasound sensitization diaphragm was designed based on the frequency characteristics of PD in the transformer and the vibration model of the diaphragm in the liquid environment. The fiber optic sensing system for PD was built and the performance test was conducted. The results show that the resonant frequency of the FBG acoustic diaphragm is around 20 kHz and that of the F-P cavity acoustic diaphragm is 94 kHz. The sensitivity of the developed fiber optic sensor is higher than that of the piezoelectric transducer (PZT). The lower limit of PD detection is 68.72 pC for the FBG sensing part and 47.97 pC for the F-P cavity sensing part. The directional testing of the sensor and its testing within a transformer simulation model indicate that the proposed sensor achieves higher detection sensitivity of PD in all directions. The omnidirectional partial discharge ultrasound sensing method proposed in this paper is expected to reduce the missed detection rate of PD.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have gathered tremendous scientific interest, especially in the biomedical field, for multiple applications, including bioseparation, drug delivery, etc. Nevertheless, their manipulation and separation with magnetic fields are challenging due to their small size. We recently reported the coupling of cooperative magnetophoresis and sedimentation using quadrupole magnets as a promising strategy to successfully promote SPION recovery from media. However, previous studies involved SPIONs dispersed in organic solvents (non-biocompatible) at high concentrations, which is detrimental to the process economy. In this work, we investigate, for the first time, the magnetic separation of 20 nm and 30 nm SPIONs dispersed in an aqueous medium at relatively low concentrations (as low as 0.5 g·L -1 ) using our custom, permanent magnet-based quadrupole magnetic sorter (QMS). By monitoring the SPION concentrations along the vessel within the QMS, we estimated the influence of several variables in the separation and analyzed the kinetics of the process. The results obtained can be used to shed light on the dynamics and interplay of variables that govern the fast separation of SPIONs using inexpensive permanent magnets.

Orchid seeds lack endosperms and depend on mycorrhizal fungi for germination and nutrition acquisition under natural conditions. Piriformospora indica is a mycorrhizal fungus that promotes seed germination and seedling development in epiphytic orchids, such as Dendrobium nobile . To understand the impact of P. indica on D. nobile seed germination, we examined endogenous hormone levels by using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. We performed transcriptomic analysis of D. nobile protocorm at two developmental stages under asymbiotic germination (AG) and symbiotic germination (SG) conditions. The result showed that the level of endogenous IAA in the SG protocorm treatments was significantly higher than that in the AG protocorm treatments. Meanwhile, GA 3 was only detected in the SG protocorm stages. IAA and GA synthesis and signaling genes were upregulated in the SG protocorm stages. Exogenous GA 3 application inhibited fungal colonization inside the protocorm, and a GA biosynthesis inhibitor (PAC) promoted fungal colonization. Furthermore, we found that PAC prevented fungal hyphae collapse and degeneration in the protocorm, and differentially expressed genes related to cell wall metabolism were identified between the SG and AG protocorm stages. Exogenous GA 3 upregulated SRC2 and LRX4 expression, leading to decreased fungal colonization. Meanwhile, GA inhibitors upregulated EXP6 , EXB16 , and EXP10-2 expression, leading to increased fungal colonization. Our findings suggest that GA regulates the expression of cell wall metabolism genes in D. nobile , thereby inhibiting the establishment of mycorrhizal symbiosis.
