Green manure (GM)–rice–rice rotation is an important management practice for improving soil fertility and rice productivity. The microbiological mechanisms for the increase in grain yield in GM–rice–rice rotation remain unclear. The responses of soil biodiversity, bacterial and fungal communities, and their interactions in the GM–rice–rice rotation were investigated based on two long-term field experiments in Gaoqiao (GQ) and Nanxian (NX) in Hunan Province, south China. Results showed that rice yields were raised by 11.79% and 15.03% under GM in GQ and NX, respectively. GM promoted Shannon diversity and Pielou's evenness and changed the community structures of bacteria and fungi. The co-occurrence network analysis found that the percentages of negative edges were higher in GM (40.79% and 44.32% in GQ and NX, respectively) than those in the corresponding winter fallow (34.86% and 29.13% in GQ and NX, respectively) in the combined bacterial–fungal networks, suggesting more stable microbial community under GM. Moreover, GM had higher percentages of bacterial–fungal and fungal–fungal edges than winter fallow, indicating that GM increased the interaction between bacteria and fungi and fungi play more essential roles in affecting soil processes under GM. The keystone taxa in GM were positively linked with C metabolism-related enzymes and soil multifunctionality, and were important in improving soil fertility and rice productivity. We concluded that the fungal community was more sensitive to GM application than the bacterial community and that keystone taxa had important influences on soil properties and rice productivity in the GM–double-rice cropping system, which can effectively support the sustainable development of the paddy field ecosystem in southern China. The excessive application of chemical fertilizers in rice fields exacerbates soil degradation and poses a threat to food security. Achieving an increase in rice production and minimizing environmental costs are inevitable requirements for achieving sustainable rice production. The synergistic utilization of rice straw (RS) and Chinese milk vetch (MV) is a sustainable measure to improve soil quality in Southern China. How this management strategy impacts agricultural productivity and soil carbon (C) sequestration under different fertilization conditions is unclear. Several treatments, including only chemical fertilizer (F), F + MV (FM), F + RS (FS), and F + MV + RS (FMS) under a standard rate of nitrogen (N100) and 40% reduced nitrogen (N60) levels were designed to explore changes in rice yields and soil organic carbon (SOC) concentrations, stocks, and soil labile organic C fractions (permanganate oxidizable C) during 2018–2020 in a double-rice-cropping system. The results show that the FMS treatment reduced soil bulk density to alleviate soil compaction and improved the soil carbon management index. The synergistic utilization of MV and RS replacing 40% of the chemical N fertilizer could still maintain the rice yield. Compared to the F treatment, the average annual grain yield was significantly increased by 9.82% and 5.84% in the FMS treatment; SOC concentration was increased by 16.05% and 19.98% on average (p < 0.05), and SOC stock was increased by 1.78 Mg C ha−1 and 2.37 Mg C ha−1 under the N60 and N100 levels, respectively. The random forest regression model and correlation analysis demonstrated that the inputs of chemical N, organic N and C, and appropriate C/N ratio promoted soil C accumulation. Furthermore, the structural equation model analysis exhibited that the C input affects the highly labile organic carbon (HLOC) and total labile organic carbon (LOC); the HLOC had a positive effect on SOC (p < 0.05). N input had a significant effect on LOC and yield. Our results suggest that the synergistic utilization of MV and RS plays an important role in ensuring stable grain production, improving soil C sequestration capacity, and maintaining soil environmental health in Southern China. Simple Summary: Breeding biology stands as the paramount component within avian life history. In this study, for the first time, we provided detailed information on the breeding biology of the Indian Blue Robin (Larvivora brunnea), a little-known forest understory bird, for which the breeding biology has been largely unknown. We conducted our fieldwork in northwestern Yunnan, China, in May of 2021. Both parent birds were observed to participate in the breeding process, but the female participated in incubation only. This study highlights how a small single-parent bird adapts its incubation behavior, as well as how parent birds coordinate their breeding to adjust to the cold and unpredictable environmental conditions in high-altitude regions. Breeding biology lies at the core of life history research on birds, and it provides important information for avian conservation. We discovered one nest of the Indian Blue Robin (Larvivora brunnea) on 28 May 2021, at the Laojun mountains in Lijiang, northwestern Yunnan, China. Field observation was combined with the use of a GoPro camera for video shooting to quantitatively study the incubation and brooding behavior. We also conducted measurements of the eggs and nestlings on site and inspected the nesting materials used. A bowl-shaped nest with four eggs was located at 2830 m in the evergreen deciduous broad-leaved forest. All eggs were successfully incubated and two nestlings fledged on 22 June 2021, resulting in a total breeding success of 50%. Only the female bird incubated the eggs and brooded the nestlings. The incubation period was at least 13 days and the nestling period was 13 days. As incubation progressed, the incubation bout duration decreased. During the incubation period, the nesting time of the female bird shows a declining trend as incubation progresses. The global fixed-time sliding mode control strategy is designed for the manipulator to achieve global fixed-time trajectory tracking in response to the uncertainty of the system model, the external disturbances, and the saturation of the manipulator actuator. First, aiming at the lumped disturbance caused by system model uncertainty and external disturbance, the adaptive fixed-time sliding mode disturbance observer (AFSMDO) was introduced to eliminate the negative effects of disturbance. The observer parameters can adaptively change with disturbances by designing the adaptive law, improving the accuracy of disturbance estimation. Secondly, the fixed-time sliding surface was introduced to avoid singularity, and the nonsingular fixed-time sliding mode control (NFSMC) design was put in place to ensure the global convergence of the manipulator system. Finally, the fixed time saturation compensator (FTSC) was created for NFSMC to prevent the negative impact of actuator saturation on the manipulator system, effectively reducing system chatter and improving the response speed of the closed-loop system. The fixed-time stability theory and Lyapunov method were exploited to offer a thorough and rigorous theoretical analysis and stability demonstration for the overall control system. Overuse of chemical fertilizer (CF) causes damage to soil and the environment. To reveal the process of the response of crop rhizospheric and bulk soil fertility and the bacterial community to long-term CF conditions, CF application and nonfertilization (CK, control) treatments were used in a long-term (12-year) fertilization experiment. Long-term CF application significantly increased the soil organic matter, total nitrogen, and available phosphorus contents (p < 0.05), increased the available nitrogen (AN) and potassium (AK) contents to varying degrees, and decreased the soil pH in both rice rhizospheric soil and bulk soil. In addition, the bacterial Shannon and Ace indices in rice rhizospheric soil under the CF treatment were all higher than those under the control (CK) treatment, and the bulk soil bacteria showed the opposite trend. The LEfSe results showed that unidentified_Gammaproteobacteria and Geobacter (genera) were significantly enriched in the rhizospheric and bulk soil of rice under the CK treatment, respectively. Gemmatimonadetes (phylum) and Nitrospirae (phylum) + Thiobacillus (genus) were significantly enriched in the rice rhizospheric and bulk soil under the CF treatment. Only AK and AN had strong positive correlations with soil bacteria. Long-term CF application accelerated the migration of soil bacteria from the bulk soil to the rhizosphere, thus improving soil fertility and nutrient cycling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cadmium (Cd) pollution poses a growing threat to rice production in acidic paddies. In south China, a common agricultural practice involves the combined utilization of Chinese milk vetch (M) and rice straw (R). However, it is unclear how the addition of lime to these amendments affects Cd bioavailability and accumulation in soil. Control (CK), chemical fertilizer (F), Chinese milk vetch + rice straw + chemical fertilizer (MRF), and Chinese milk vetch + rice straw + chemical fertilizer + lime (MRFL) treatments were applied to develop a kind of green, efficient, and practical amendment for acidic paddies. We conducted a microplot experiment to explore Cd immobilization in paddy soil and the Cd content in rice grains with these treatments. The results showed that compared with F, the rice Cd in the MRF and MRFL treatments were significantly decreased by 51.7% and 65.2% in early rice and 23.0% and 43.3% in late rice, respectively. Both the MRF and MRFL treatments significantly reduced soil available Cd and weak acid-extractable cadmium (Aci-Cd) concentrations and increased soil organic matter (SOM), exchangeable cation concentrations, and pH, which converted Cd into a stable form in soil. In addition, the MRF and MRFL treatments increased soil pH value by reducing soil exchangeable hydrogen ion concentration (E-H). Additionally, recombination of Cd forms was the primary factor in the reduction in available Cd concentration according to partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) analysis. The Cd concentration of rice grains was primarily associated with soil available Cd, soil pH value, and SOM. Anaplastic thyroid cancer is an extremely lethal malignancy without reliable treatment. BRAFV600E point mutation is common in ATCs, which leads to MAPK signaling activation and is regarded as a therapeutic target. Resveratrol inhibits ATC cell growth, while its impact on BRAF-MAPK signaling remains unknown. This study aims to address this issue by elucidating the statuses of BRAF-MAPK and STAT3 signaling activities in resveratrol-treated THJ-11T, THJ-16T, and THJ-21T ATC cells and Nthyori 3-1 thyroid epithelial cells. RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing revealed MKRN1-BRAF fusion mutation in THJ-16T, BRAF V600E point mutation in THJ-21T, and wild-type BRAF genes in THJ-11T and Nthyori 3-1 cells. Western blotting and immunocytochemical staining showed elevated pBRAF, pMEK, and pERK levels in THJ-16T and THJ-21T, but not in THJ-11T or Nthyori 3-1 cells. Calcein/PI, EdU, and TUNEL assays showed that compared with docetaxel and doxorubicin and MAPK-targeting dabrafenib and trametinib, resveratrol exerted more powerful inhibitory effects on mutant BRAF-harboring THJ-16T and THJ-21T cells, accompanied by reduced levels of MAPK pathway-associated proteins and pSTAT3. Trametinib- and dabrafenib-enhanced STAT3 activation was efficiently suppressed by resveratrol. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common lethal primary brain malignancy without reliable therapeutic drugs. IL-13Rα2 is frequently expressed in GBMs as a molecular marker. Resveratrol (Res) effectively inhibits GBM cell growth but has not been applied in vivo because of its low brain bioavailability when administered systemically. A sustained-release and GBM-targeting resveratrol form may overcome this therapeutic dilemma. To achieve this goal, encapsulated Res 30 ± 4.8 nm IL-13Rα2-targeting nanoparticles (Pep-PP@Res) were constructed. Ultraviolet spectrophotometry revealed prolonged Res release (about 25%) from Pep-PP@Res in 48 h and fluorescent confocal microscopy showed the prolonged intracellular Res retention time of Pep-PP@Res (>24 h) in comparison with that of free Res (<4 h) and PP@Res (<4 h). MTT and EdU cell proliferation assays showed stronger suppressive effects of Pep-PP@Res on rat C6 GBM cells than that of PP@Res (p = 0.024) and Res (p = 0.009) when used twice for 4 h/day. Pep-PP@Res had little toxic effect on normal rat brain cells. The in vivo anti-glioblastoma effects of Res can be distinctly improved in the form of Pep-PP@Res nanoparticles via activating JNK signaling, upregulating proapoptosis gene expression and, finally, resulting in extensive apoptosis. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the commonest primary brain malignancy with extremely poor prognosis. Resveratrol posseses anti-cancer effects, while GBM cells respond differently to it due to certain unknown reason(s). Because the tumor-derived exosomes are supposed to influence chemosensitivity, the exosomic proteins released from resveratrol-sensitive U251 and resveratrol-resistant glioblastoma LN428 cells are profiled before (N/Exo) and after drug treatment (Res/Exo) by label-free liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The therapeutic implications of the proteomic findings are estimated by gene ontology enrichment analysis (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG)-based bioinformatic analyses and further elucidated by exosome co-incubating. The results reveal that U251/N/Exo but not U251/Res/Exo enhances resveratrol sensitivity of resveratrol-resistant LN428 cells. The resveratrol sensitive properties of U251 cells are not altered by either LN428/N/Exo or LN428/Res/Exo. U251/N/Exo contains higher levels of chromatin silencing and epidermis development proteins, while U251/Res/Exo has more oxygen transport and G protein-coupled receptor. Both of LN428/N/Exo and LN428/Res/Exo are rich in the proteins related with nucleosome assembly, microtubule-based process and chromatin silencing. In conclusion, U251/N/Exo sensitizes LN428 cells to resveratrol via delivering drug sensitizing signals, suggesting the presence of additional factor(s) that may determine the resveratrol sensitivities of glioblastoma cells. The volatilization characteristics and occurrence forms of V and Ni in petroleum coke (petcoke) were investigated during steam (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) gasification on a fixed bed reactor at 800–1100 °C. The Tessier sequential chemical extraction procedure was employed to determine the different forms of V and Ni. The results showed their volatilities were not dependent on the gasification atmosphere, but rather relied mainly on the reaction temperature. The CO2 atmosphere accelerated the conversion of organic-bound nickel to residual form at low temperature and promoted Fe-Mn oxides formation at high temperature. However, the H2O atmosphere was conducive to form vanadium bound to Fe-Mn oxides and promoted the decomposition of residual forms. In addition, the thermodynamic equilibrium calculations showed the volatilization of Ni mainly released Ni3S2 between 800–1100 °C. The H2O atmosphere was favorable to generate the more stable NixSy compound, thereby suppressing the volatilization of Ni, while the presence of CO2 led to an increase in residual V and decrease of Fe-Mn oxides. The V and Ni mainly caused erosion problems under the CO2 atmosphere while the fouling and slagging obviously increased under the H2O atmosphere with impacts gradually weakened with the increase of temperature.
