Lactoferrin, a glycoprotein derived from breastmilk, is recognized for its health benefits in infants and children; however, its protective effects when administered during gestation and lactation against offspring hypertension remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether maternal lactoferrin supplementation could prevent hypertension in offspring born to mothers with chronic kidney disease (CKD), with a focus on nitric oxide (NO), renin–angiotensin system (RAS) regulation, and alterations in gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Prior to pregnancy, female rats were subjected to a 0.5% adenine diet for 3 weeks to induce CKD. During pregnancy and lactation, pregnant rats received one of four diets: normal chow, 0.5% adenine diet, 10% lactoferrin diet, or adenine diet supplemented with lactoferrin. Male offspring were euthanized at 12 weeks of age (n = 8 per group). Supplementation with lactoferrin during gestation and lactation prevented hypertension in adult offspring induced by a maternal adenine diet. The maternal adenine diet caused a decrease in the index of NO availability, which was restored by 67% with maternal LF supplementation. Additionally, LF was related to the regulation of the RAS, as evidenced by a reduced renal expression of renin and the angiotensin II type 1 receptor. Combined maternal adenine and LF diets altered beta diversity, shifted the offspring's gut microbiota, decreased propionate levels, and reduced the renal expression of SCFA receptors. The beneficial effects of lactoferrin are likely mediated through enhanced NO availability, rebalancing the RAS, and alterations in gut microbiota composition and SCFAs. Our findings suggest that maternal lactoferrin supplementation improves hypertension in offspring in a model of adenine-induced CKD, bringing us closer to potentially translating lactoferrin supplementation clinically for children born to mothers with CKD. The simultaneous adsorption of Cu(II) and dyes (MB and MO) on LDH@GO-SH was investigated in single, MB–Cu, and MO–Cu binary systems. The coexistence of dye enhanced the adsorption of Cu(II) by LDH@GO-SH, while the presence of Cu(II) differently affected the adsorption of MB and MO. The adsorption capacity of MO remarkably increased due to the presence of Cu(II). The presence of Cu(II) had a negative effect on MB adsorption for lower MB initial concentration systems (2–10 mg·L−1), while it had a positive effect for higher MB concentration systems (25 mg·L−1 and 50 mg·L−1). The adsorption of Cu(II) in binary systems was satisfactorily fitted by a Langmuir model and pseudo-first-order kinetic model. Surface complex interaction was supposed to be a potential mechanism for the enhancement of Cu(II) adsorption in both MB–Cu and MO–Cu binary systems. The electrostatic interactions between MO and Cu(II) were another reason for the enhancement of Cu(II) adsorption in the MO–Cu binary system. LDH@GO-SH maintained a high adsorption capacity after three adsorption–desorption cycles, indicating that it can be repeatedly used for the treatment of heavy-metal-ion-containing wastewater. Dry eye is a complicated ocular surface disease that causes discomfort, visual disturbance, and frequently observed ocular surface damage. Emerging hypotheses suggest probiotics may help relieve dry eye symptoms by modulating inflammation and oxidative stress. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of Streptococcus thermophilus iHA318 probiotics on dry eye using in vitro assays and an in vivo murine model of ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation-induced dry eye. In vitro analyses revealed that S. thermophilus iHA318® exhibited antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting reactive oxygen species production and suppressing inflammatory cytokines. For the in vivo study, female ICR mice were assigned to normal control, UVB-induced dry eye, and UVB+iHA318 treatment groups. UVB exposure significantly decreased tear volume and tear film breakup time (TBUT) compared to normal controls. Supplementation with S. thermophilus iHA318® via oral gavage markedly improved tear production and TBUT on day 7 post-UVB exposure. Ocular surface photography demonstrated improved gradings of corneal opacity, smoothness, and lissamine green staining in the iHA318 group versus the UVB group. Topographical analysis further revealed improvement in the UVB-induced corneal irregularities by iHA318 treatment. Collectively, these results indicate that S. thermophilus iHA318 exerts a protective effect against dry eye symptoms by mitigating oxidative stress and inflammation, thereby preserving tear film stability and ocular surface integrity. Immersion tests with 5 wt.% Na2SO4 solution were carried out to investigate the deterioration of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gel in a sulfate environment. C-S-H gels with different Ca/(Si + Al) molar ratios were used for comparison. Particular attention was paid to the changes in element composition and Si-O-Si chain structure of the C-S-H gel. The results show that the C-S-H gels with a low Ca/(Si + Al) ratio (0.8–1.0) and appropriate Si-O-Si chain length (14.8) presented better stability in a severe sulfate environment. The C-S-H gels with a higher Ca/(Si + Al) ratio (>2.0) were more sensitive to the attack of sulfate ions. Calcium ions dissolved rapidly during the immersion process, causing the loss of cohesive strength of the C-S-H gel, and then decomposed into fine particles. The C-S-H gel with a lower Ca/(Si + Al) ratio (about 1.1) rarely leached out calcium ions and maintained good micromorphology. The 29Si MAS-NMR results indicate that the Si-O-Si chains with too short or too long chain lengths will break and recombine under the attack of sulfate ions. The Si-O-Si chains with an appropriate chain length (14.8) maintained the stability of the structure of the C-S-H gel in a sulfate environment. These changes are closely related to the asymmetric layered structure of amorphous C-S-H gel. Partial calcium ions between the layers of the main chain structure of Si-O-Si are easily taken away by sulfate ions, leading to the structural instability of the C-S-H gel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To repair reinforced concrete beams efficiently in a limited building space, the four-sided application of a reinforcing thin layer of reactive powder concrete ("RPCTL") was proposed to improve the bending capacity of the members. Static flexural tests of one comparison beam and five reinforced beams were completed on a four-point centralized loading device. Changes in deflection, cracks, stresses, and damage characteristics of the specimens were measured under various levels of loading. The test results showed that the damage patterns of the reinforced specimens were dominated by the yielding of longitudinal tensile reinforcement at the bottoms of the beams and the crushing of the cementitious material in the top compression zones of the beams. The cracking load greatly increased by 1.42 to 7.12 times, and the ultimate bearing capacity increased by 0.29 to 1.41 times. The distribution characteristics and dynamic changes in the displacement, stress, and damage of the specimens were dynamically simulated by finite element software. The effects of reinforcement and initial load-holding level on the reinforcement effect were investigated. A bending capacity calculation formula for RPCTL reinforcement technology is proposed that aligns with the test results and can provide a reference for the design of RPCTL reinforcement. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in an increasing population that is experiencing a wide range of long-lasting symptoms after recovery from the acute infection. Long COVID refers to this specific condition and is associated with diverse symptoms, such as fatigue, myalgias, dyspnea, headache, cognitive impairment, neurodegenerative symptoms, anxiety, depression, and a sense of despair. The potential of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to improve chronic fatigue, cognitive impairments, and neurological disorders has been established; therefore, the use of HBOT to treat long COVID has also been studied. We conducted a literature search between 1 January 2019 and 30 October 2023, focusing on the clinical efficacy and utility of HBOT for treating long COVID and found ten clinical studies that fit the review topic, including one case report, five one-group pretest-posttest design studies, one safety report from a randomized controlled trial (RCT), and three complete reports of RCTs. Most studies found that HBOT can improve quality of life, fatigue, cognition, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and cardiopulmonary function. Although HBOT has shown some benefits for long COVID symptoms, further rigorous large-scale RCTs are required to establish precise indications, protocols, and post-treatment evaluations. Batteries are one of the most crucial energy storage devices today, and battery-energy management technology has an extremely significant impact on the performance and lifespan of batteries. The traditional design approach for battery-energy management platforms often neglects considerations for charging and discharging scenarios. Additionally, functional modules are designed independently, leading to incompatibility issues between hardware and control units, thereby limiting the system's performance. To address these challenges and enhance system coordination, this paper proposes a systematic design and implementation method for a battery-energy comprehensive management platform applied in charging and swapping scenarios. The method consists of four parts: hardware design, a dynamic load charging-balance control strategy, a composite micro-source hierarchical coordination control strategy, and a system emergency-response and protection strategy. The proposed method has been successfully applied to a design and has been used to build a battery-energy comprehensive management platform. Finally, through experiments, it has been demonstrated that this system can achieve energy scheduling, battery-energy balance, mode switching, and fault protection in a stable and reliable manner. The goal of this paper is to fabricate innovative diaphragm headphones using graphene oxide paper (GOP) and GOP/epoxy nanocomposites (GOPC). Initially, graphene oxide suspension is fabricated, and the vacuum filtration method is adopted to make GOP. Then, vacuum bag molding is used to fabricate GOPC from GOP. Hot pressing and associated molds are adopted to fabricate line-indented (GOPC-L) or curve-indented patterns (GOPC-C) on the GOPC. The performances of one kind of GOP and three kinds of GOPC diaphragm headphones are analyzed based on their sound pressure level (SPL) curves achieved by the Soundcheck measurement system. There are four important processing parameters that will influence the performance of the diaphragm, including material type GOP versus GOPC, indented pattern type, sonication time on suspension, and graphene weight fraction in suspension. Compliances of various diaphragms are measured by the Klippel LPM laser measurement system. The results indicate that effects of sonication time and graphene weight fraction on SPL of GOP and GOPC headphones are in reverse, and this is associated with their difference on compliance (modulus), mass, damping ratio, and microstructure uniformity. Either GOPC-L or GOPC-C seems to improve the microstructure of the GOPC, and leads to better SPL performance. The correlation between the previous four factors and SPLs of four kinds of diaphragm headphones is proposed by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) to examine the microstructure of these diaphragms. Oral cancer represents a global health burden, necessitating novel therapeutic strategies. Photodynamic and photothermal therapies using indocyanine green (ICG) have shown promise due to their distinctive near-infrared (NIR) light absorption characteristics and FDA-approved safety profiles. This study develops ICG-loaded liposomes (Lipo-ICGs) to further explore their potential in oral cancer treatments. We synthesized and characterized the Lipo-ICGs, conducted in vitro cell culture experiments to assess cellular uptake and photodynamic/photothermal effects, and performed in vivo animal studies to evaluate their therapeutic efficacy. Quantitative cell apoptosis and gene expression variation were further characterized using flow cytometry and RNA sequencing, respectively. Lipo-ICGs demonstrated a uniform molecular weight distribution among particles. The in vitro studies showed a successful internalization of Lipo-ICGs into the cells and a significant photodynamic treatment effect. The in vivo studies confirmed the efficient delivery of Lipo-ICGs to tumor sites and successful tumor growth inhibition following photodynamic therapy. Moreover, light exposure induced a time-sensitive photothermal effect, facilitating the further release of ICG, and enhancing the treatment efficacy. RNA sequencing data showed significant changes in gene expression patterns upon Lipo-ICG treatment, suggesting the activation of apoptosis and ferroptosis pathways. Due to their advantages of high measurement accuracy and wide coverage, global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) can carry out long-distance time transfers, among which the precise point positioning (PPP) method is widely used. However, the accuracy and stability of PPP real-time time transfer are restricted by the real-time satellite clock offset products. In addition, the receiver clock offset is usually estimated using the white noise model, which ignores the correlation of the clock offsets between adjacent epochs and the stability of the atomic clock itself. In order to obtain higher performance time transfer results, we propose an interstation undifferenced time transfer method with refined modeling of the receiver clock. This method takes the satellite clock offset as the parameter to be estimated, which can avoid the influence of external satellite clock offset products. In addition, the refined modeling of the receiver clock can improve the strength of the model and the accuracy of time transfer. Based on the ultrarapid satellite orbit products provided by the International GNSS Service (IGS), time transfer experiments are carried out using data from IGS observatories and self-collected data. The results show that sub-nanosecond accuracy can be achieved in real-time time transfer using this method. Compared with the traditional PPP model, the accuracies of the four time links are increased by 88.4%, 92.9%, 88.6%, and 74.5%, respectively, and the stability is increased by approximately 66.4% on average. Moreover, after applying the clock offset constraint model, frequency stability is further improved, in which the short-term stability is improved significantly, with a maximum of 86.9% and an average improvement of approximately 66.8%. Engineered nano-ZnO is extensively utilized in both production and daily life, leading to its inevitable entry into the wastewater treatment system through various pathways. Nitrogen removal microorganisms in wastewater treatment systems are highly susceptible to environmental impacts. The antibacterial properties of nano-ZnO can impede the biological nitrogen removal (BNR) process and adversely affect the nitrogen removal performance. A comprehensive understanding of the inhibitory effect and mechanism of nano-ZnO on the BNR process is crucial in devising appropriate countermeasures to ensure optimal nitrogen removal performance. This review provides an overview of the sources of nano-ZnO in the environment, its impact on the BNR process, and the inhibition mechanism, and proposes potential methods that can mitigate the inhibitory effect of nano-ZnO. Additionally, future prospects are also discussed. This review serves as a foundation for a deeper understanding of the inhibition of engineered nano-ZnO on the BNR process and aids in guiding efforts to maintain the nitrogen removal performance in the presence of engineered nano-ZnO. Traditionally, the processing of Gelidium seaweed into Gelidium jelly was very complicated, and involved repeated washing with water and sun drying for seven rounds. The seaweed, which is originally reddish-purple in color, turns yellow in color after the repeated washing and sun drying cycles. However, the sun drying process can only be used on sunny days. Therefore, this study evaluated an alternative method, halogen lamp drying, and compared the qualities of the product, Gelidium jelly, made using the halogen lamp drying and traditional sun drying methods. The properties investigated included the agar yield, gelling temperature, hardness, springiness, rheological parameters, sensory attributes, color, and volatile compounds. The results demonstrated that the halogen lamp drying method required 12 washing and drying cycles to achieve similar jelly properties to seven rounds of sun drying in the experimental conditions. Volatiles including heptanal, β-ionone, and (E)-2-decenal could be used as indicators to monitor the washing and drying processes. This paper uses high-order approximate coupling (HOAC) dynamics equations for the hub–beam system with segmented active constrained layer damping treatment (SACLD). To improve the damping characteristics of traditional active constrained layer damping (ACLD), the viscoelastic damping layer, and the piezoelectric constraining layer are cut at the same position. The damping characteristics of the structure are enhanced by increasing the shear strain of the viscoelastic damping layer. The finite element method is used to discretize the SACLD beam. The discontinuity of the SACLD beam element-to-element displacement achieves the notch. Based on the theory of rigid–flexible coupling dynamics, the dynamic responses of the SACLD rotating beam under different cases are studied. The results show that the segmentation method is not always effective. A SACLD beam provides better vibration suppression than an ACLD beam only when appropriate material and dimensional parameters are used. The influences of base-layer thickness, piezoelectric constraining layer thickness, viscoelastic damping-layer thickness, angular velocity, the viscoelastic damping-layer loss factor, and control gains on the vibration of the rotating flexible beam with SACLD treatment are also discussed. Children suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The early detection and diagnosis of subclinical CVD in pediatric CKD can reduce mortality later in life. Plasma factor 4 (PF4) is a chemokine released by activated platelets. We examined whether or not PF4 in the plasma and urine, its kidney function normalized ratio, and fractional excretion have differential associations with CVD risk markers in 139 youths aged 3 to 18 years old with CKD stages G1–G4. Significant negative correlations were observed between plasma PF4 and cardiovascular surrogate markers, such as the left ventricular mass index (LVMI), carotid intima–media thickness (cIMT), and pulse wave velocity (PWV). The plasma PF4/creatinine (Cr) ratio was lower in CKD children with a high daytime BP and 24 h BP, high BP load, and nocturnal non-dipping status. After adjusting for confounders, the plasma PF4 and plasma PF4/Cr ratio still independently predicted an abnormal ABPM profile. In addition, both the plasma PF4 and plasma PF4/Cr ratio presented a negative correlation with the L-arginine and asymmetric dimethylarginine ratio. These findings provide convincing evidence supporting the link between PF4 and CVD markers in pediatric CKD. The contents of six heavy metals (HMs: Cr, Cu, As, Pb, Cd, and Zn) in sediments from the upper reaches of Liangtan River (LTR) were determined. The geo-accumulation index (Igeo), pollution load index (PLI), and potential ecological risk index (RI) were employed to assess the HM contamination in the sediments. Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis (PCC), principal component analysis (PCA), and cluster analysis (CA) were used to infer the sources of HMs. The average concentrations of Cr, Cu, As, Pb, Cd, and Zn were 44.63 ± 25.36, 31.40 ± 22.56, 4.66 ± 2.07, 29.20 ± 27.73, 0.25 ± 0.06, and 68.87 ± 104.62 μg/g, respectively. The Igeo indicated that the Cd contamination level was unpolluted to moderately polluted. The mean PLI was 0.97 ± 0.53, suggesting that the sediments were unpolluted, but close to moderately contaminated. The RI values indicated that the potential environmental risk of HMs in the sediments of the LTR was low. The results of PCC, PCA, and CA suggested that the Cr, Cu, As, and Zn in the sediment may mainly originate from natural processes; Pb mainly comes from human industrial and agricultural production activities as well as natural processes; and the main source of Cd may be the production activities of the surrounding chemical enterprises and chemical fertilizer application in farmland. For next generation wireless communication systems, high throughput, low latency, and large user accommodation are popular and important required characteristics. To achieve these requirements for next generation wireless communication systems, an in-band full-duplex (IBFD) communication system is one of the possible candidate technologies. However, to realize IBFD systems, there is an essential problem that there exists a large self-interference (SI) due to the simultaneous signal transmission and reception in the IBFD systems. Therefore, to implement the IBFD system, it is necessary to realize a series of effective SI cancellation processes. In this study, we implemented a prototype of SI cancellation processes with our designed antenna, analog circuit, and digital cancellation function using an adaptive filter. For system implementation, we introduce software-defined radio (SDR) devices in this study. By using SDR devices, which can be customized by users, the evaluations of complicated wireless access systems like IBFD can be realized easily. Besides the validation stage of system practicality, the system development can be more effective by using SDR devices. Therefore, we utilize SDR devices to implement the proposed IBFD system and conduct experiments to evaluate its performance. The results show that the SI cancellation effect can reach nearly 100 dB with  10 − 3  order bit error rate (BER) after signal demodulation. From the experiment results, it can be seen obviously that the implemented prototype can effectively cancel the large amount of SI and obtain satisfied digital demodulation results, which validates the effectiveness of the developed system. Evidence on the effect of long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on erythrocytosis and thrombocytosis prevalence was limited. We aimed to investigate the association of PM2.5 and its constituents with the risks of erythrocytosis and thrombocytosis. The present study included a total of 33,585 participants from the Henan Rural Cohort at baseline between 2015 and 2017. A hybrid satellite-based model was employed to estimate the concentrations of PM2.5 mass and its constituents (including black carbon [BC], nitrate [NO3−], ammonium [NH4+], inorganic sulfate [SO42−], organic matter [OM], and soil particles [SOIL]). The logistic regression model was used to assess the associations of single exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents with the risks of erythrocytosis and thrombocytosis, and the quantile G-computation method was applied to evaluate their joint exposure risk. For the independent association, the odds ratios for erythrocytosis/thrombocytosis with 1 μg/m3 increase was 1.049/1.043 for PM2.5 mass, 1.596/1.610 for BC, 1.410/1.231 for NH4+, 1.205/1.139 for NO3−, 1.221/1.359 for OM, 1.300/1.143 for SO42−, and 1.197/1.313 for SOIL. Joint exposure to PM2.5 and its components was also positively associated with erythrocytosis and thrombocytosis. The estimated weight of NH4+ was found to be the largest for erythrocytosis, while OM had the largest weight for thrombocytosis. PM2.5 mass and its constituents were positively linked to prevalent erythrocytosis and thrombocytosis, both in single-exposure and joint-exposure models. Nuclear fission reactions can release massive amounts of energy accompanied by neutrons and γ photons, which create a mixed radiation field and enable a series of reactions in nuclear reactors. This study demonstrates a one-pot/one-step approach to synthesizing radioactive gold nanoparticles (RGNP) without using radioactive precursors and reducing agents. Trivalent gold ions are reduced into gold nanoparticles (8.6–146 nm), and a particular portion of 197Au atoms is simultaneously converted to 198Au atoms, rendering the nanoparticles radioactive. We suggest that harnessing nuclear energy to gold nanoparticles is feasible in the interests of advancing nanotechnology for cancer therapy. A combination of RGNP applied through convection-enhanced delivery (CED) and temozolomide (TMZ) through oral administration demonstrates the synergistic effect in treating glioblastoma-bearing mice. The mean survival for RGNP/TMZ treatment was 68.9 ± 9.7 days compared to that for standalone RGNP (38.4 ± 2.2 days) or TMZ (42.8 ± 2.5 days) therapies. Based on the verification of bioluminescence images, positron emission tomography, and immunohistochemistry inspection, the combination treatment can inhibit the proliferation of glioblastoma, highlighting the niche of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) attributed to RGNP and TMZ. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) contributes significantly to the death of people worldwide, especially the elderly. An essential feature of COPD is pulmonary inflammation, which results from long-term exposure to noxious substances from cigarette smoking and other environmental pollutants. Pulmonary inflammatory mediators spill over to the blood, leading to systemic inflammation, which is believed to play a significant role in the onset of a host of comorbidities associated with COPD. A substantial comorbidity of concern in COPD patients that is often overlooked in COPD management is cognitive impairment. The exact pathophysiology of cognitive impairment in COPD patients remains a mystery; however, hypoxia, oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, and cerebral manifestations of these conditions are believed to play crucial roles. Furthermore, the use of medications to treat cognitive impairment symptomatology in COPD patients has been reported to be associated with life-threatening adverse effects, hence the need for alternative medications with reduced side effects. In this Review, we aim to discuss the impact of cognitive impairment in COPD management and the potential mechanisms associated with increased risk of cognitive impairment in COPD patients. The promising roles of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω-3 PUFAs) in improving cognitive deficits in COPD patients are also discussed. Interestingly, ω-3 PUFAs can potentially enhance the cognitive impairment symptomatology associated with COPD because they can modulate inflammatory processes, activate the antioxidant defence system, and promote amyloid-beta clearance from the brain. Little is known concerning the associations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and its constituents with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). A total of 31,162 participants enrolled from the Henan Rural Cohort were used to specify associations of PM2.5 and its constituents with ASCVD. Hybrid machine learning was utilized to estimate the 3-year average concentration of PM2.5 and its constituents (black carbon [BC], nitrate [NO3−], ammonium [NH4+], inorganic sulfate [SO42−], organic matter [OM], and soil particles [SOIL]). Constituent concentration, proportion, and residual models were utilized to examine the associations of PM2.5 constituents with 10-year ASCVD risk and to identify the most hazardous constituent. The isochronous substitution model (ISM) was employed to analyze the substitution effect between PM2.5 constituents. We found that each 1 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5, BC, NH4+, NO3−, OM, SO42−, and SOIL was associated with a 3.5%, 49.3%, 19.4%, 10.5%, 21.4%, 14%, and 28.5% higher 10-year ASCVD risk, respectively (all p < 0.05). Comparable results were observed in proportion and residual models. The ISM found that replacing BC with other constituents will generate the greatest health benefits. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity among children with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The causes of pediatric CKD differ from those in adults, as congenital anomalies in the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are the leading causes in childhood. Identifying ideal markers of CVD risk early is crucial for CKD children to improve their care. Previously, we screened differentially expressed proteins in CKD children with or without blood pressure (BP) abnormalities and identified pregnancy zone protein (PZP). In 106 children and adolescents with CKD stages G1–G4, we analyzed plasma PZP concentration. The associations between PZP and ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM) profile, parameters of cardiac and carotid ultrasounds, indices of arterial stiffness, and nitric oxide (NO) parameters were determined. We observed that PZP positively correlated with arterial stiffness indices, beta index, and pulse wave velocity in CAKUT. CKD children with abnormalities in ABPM and night dipping displayed a higher PZP concentration than those without. Additionally, the PZP level was positively correlated with NO bioavailability. In conclusion, our results suggest PZP has differential influences on cardiovascular risk in CAKUT and non-CAKUT children. Cryptococcal infection is usually diagnosed in immunocompromised individuals and those with meningeal involvement, accounting for most cryptococcosis. Cryptococcemia indicates a poor prognosis and prolongs the course of treatment. We use the scoring systems to predict the mortality risk of cryptococcal fungemia. This was a single hospital-based retrospective study on patients diagnosed with cryptococcal fungemia confirmed by at least one blood culture collected from the emergency department covering January 2012 and December 2020 from electronic medical records in the Taichung Veterans General Hospital. We enrolled 42 patients, including 28 (66.7%) males and 14 (33.3%) females with a mean age of 63.0 ± 19.7 years. The hospital stay ranged from 1 to 170 days (a mean stay of 44.4 days), and the overall mortality rate was 64.3% (27/42). In univariate analysis, the AUC of ROC for MEWS, RAPS, qSOFA, MEWS plus GCS, REMS, NEWS, and MEDS showed 0.833, 0.842, 0.848, 0.846, 0.846, 0.878, and 0.905. In the multivariate Cox regression analysis, all scoring systems, older age, lactate, MAP, and DBP, indicated significant differences between survivor and non-survivor groups. Our results show that all scoring systems could apply in predicting the outcome of patients with cryptococcal fungemia, and the MEDS displays the best performance. In this study, 11 PSRPC column specimens were designed and fabricated in order to investigate the stressing performance of incompletely prefabricated steel reactive powder concrete (PSRPC) columns and were subjected to static loading tests. The effects of the strength grade and steel content of reactive powder concrete (RPC) on the axial compression performance of PSRPC columns and the effects of the steel content and eccentricity on the eccentricity performance of PSRPC columns were investigated. The test results show that the external prefabricated RPC, the internal steel section and the internal cast-in-place RPC of the PSRPC column work well together. The damage morphology of the specimens and the load–displacement and strain relationships were analysed, and the damage mechanism and the main factors influencing the compressive load capacity of the PSRPC columns were investigated. The test results are compared with the calculation results of the Chinese code (JGJ 138-2016) and the European and American codes (AISC-LRFD), and the applicability of the existing codes is discussed. Based on the hoop restraint action and limit state design method, formulae for calculating the axial and partial compression load capacity of PSRPC columns were established. Connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) is a severe manifestation of CTD that leads to significant morbidity and mortality. Clinically, ILD can occur in diverse CTDs. Pathologically, CTD-ILD is characterized by various histologic patterns, such as nonspecific interstitial pneumonia, organizing pneumonia, and usual interstitial pneumonia. Abnormal immune system responses have traditionally been instrumental in its pathophysiology, and various changes in immune cells have been described, especially in macrophages. This article first briefly overviews the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, impacts, and histopathologic changes associated with CTD-ILD. Next, it summarizes the roles of various signaling pathways in macrophages or products of macrophages in ILD, helped by insights gained from animal models. In the following sections, this review returns to studies of macrophages in CTD-ILD in humans for an overall picture of the current understanding. Finally, we direct attention to potential therapies targeting macrophages in CTD-ILD in investigation or in clinical trials, as well as the future directions regarding macrophages in the context of CTD-ILD. Background: Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), most of the patients expressed a reluctance to undergo postoperative rehabilitation at a rehabilitation clinic. Therefore, in this scenario it was necessary to reshape the crucial role of postoperative rehabilitation of these patients. We conducted a telerehabilitation program based on an artificial intelligence brace (AI brace) which can monitor the progress of rehabilitation through an app and an internet server. Our hypothesis was that home-based telerehabilitation might provide clinical outcomes comparable to face-to-face, hospital-based rehabilitation programs in terms of effectiveness. Methods: A retrospective cohort study enrolled patients who received anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) between January and September 2020. Patients were divided into two groups: the tele-AI group received telerehabilitation with an AI brace while the FTF group had face-to-face, hospital-based rehabilitation. Clinical knee functional scores and Tegner Activity Scale (TAS) were assessed and analyzed until 12 months after the operation. Results: The tele-AI group had higher IKDC scores at 3 months (p = 0.0443) and 6 months (p = 0.0052) after surgery and higher KOOS scores at 1 month (p = 0.0365) and 6 months (p = 0.0375) after surgery. However, no significant difference between the two groups was detected at the end of the follow-up. The tele-AI group had higher TAS than FTF group after 1 year. In this study, the spatial distribution characteristics of nine alkylphenols (APs) in the Yongding River and Beiyun River were analyzed. The differences in the concentrations and spatial distribution patterns of nine APs were systematically evaluated using principal component analysis (PCA). The relationships between the concentration distribution patterns and the risks associated with nine APs were investigated under various categories of land use conditions in the region. The results demonstrated that the APs were widely present in both rivers, and the pollution risks associated with the APs were more severe in the Yongding River than in the Beiyun River. The results show that the contamination risks associated with 4-NP were the most serious in the two rivers, with detection percentages of 100% and 96.3%, respectively. In the Yongding River, the APs showed a tendency of low concentration levels in the upper reaches and high levels in the middle and lower regions. Meanwhile, the overall concentration levels of the APs in the Beiyun River were relatively high. However, despite the differences between the upper and middle regions of the Yongding River, the distribution pattern of the APs in the Beiyun River was basically stable. The concentration levels and risk quotient of the APs were negatively correlated with the vegetation cover land use type and positively correlated with the cropland and unused land use types within 500 m, 1 km, and 2 km. This study aimed to establish a comprehensive and sustainable approach to the conservation of historical districts through the "Cultural Landscape Security Pattern" (CLSP) theory. Deploying this theory can penetrate limitations posed by physical and social-emotional factors, enabling a resilient framework which can coordinate long-term heritage protection with urbanization in a more sustainable manner. Chaozong Street in Changsha City, China, was taken as the locus of study, which was initiated by quantitatively analyzing and evaluating the cultural landscape. The ArcGIS spatial analysis and the minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model were then considered to model different levels of CLSP. It was on this basis that corresponding regulations and development strategies were then proposed. The results from the study demonstrate that implementing CLSP in historic districts can construct a protective network over the districts, which can then guide the recovery of fragmented historical built environments, as well as ensure continuity of historical consciousness and integrity. In addition, in comparison with conventional protection planning methods, this method features greater flexibility and adaptability when considering and accounting for complex spatial issues in historic districts and provides a novel approach for similar studies. The electricity spot market plays a significant role in promoting the self-improvement of the overall resource utilization efficiency of the power system and advancing energy conservation and emission reduction. This paper analyzes and compares the potential impacts of spot market operations on system planning, considering the differences between planning methods in traditional and spot market environments through theoretical analysis and model comparison. Furthermore, we conduct research and analysis on grid planning methods under the spot market environment with the goal of maximizing social benefits. Unlike the pricing approach based on historical price data in traditional market simulation processes, a data-driven approach that combines experimental economics and machine learning is proposed, specifically using mixed empirical learning to simulate unit bidding strategies in market transactions. A simulation model for electricity spot market trading is constructed to analyze the performance of the planning results in the spot market environment. The case study results indicate that the proposed planning methods can enable the grid to operate well in the spot market environment, maintain relatively stable nodal prices, and ensure the integration of a high proportion of clean energy. Protein extraction, precipitation, and recovery methods were evaluated by this study using a green alga—Chlorella sorokiniana. A mechanochemical cell disruption process was applied to facilitate protein extraction from microalgal biomass. Optimization of the mechanochemical process resulted in milling conditions that achieved a protein extraction of 52.7 ± 6.45%. The consequent acid precipitation method was optimized to recover 98.7% of proteins from the microalgal slurry. The measured protein content of the protein isolate was 41.4% w/w. These results indicate that the precipitation method is successful at recovering the extracted proteins in the algal slurry; however, the removal of non-protein solids during centrifugation and pH adjustment is not complete. The energy balance analysis elucidated that the energy demand of the protein extraction and recovery operation, at 0.83 MJ/kg dry algal biomass, is much lower than previous studies using high-pressure homogenization and membrane filtration. This study concludes that mechanochemical protein extraction and recovery is an effective, low-energy processing method, which could be used by algal biorefineries to prepare algal proteins for value-added chemical production as well as to make algal carbohydrates and lipids in the residual biomass more accessible for biofuel production. Background: Infections caused by multi-drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria (MDR-GNB) are an emerging problem globally. Colistin is the last-sort antibiotic for MDR-GNB, but its toxicity limits its clinical use. We aimed to test the efficacy of colistin-loaded micelles (CCM-CL) against drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and compare their safety with that of free colistin in vitro and in vivo. Materials and methods: We incorporated colistin into chelating complex micelles (CCMs), thus producing colistin-loaded micelles (CCM-CL), and conducted both safety and efficacy surveys to elucidate their potential uses. Results: In a murine model, the safe dose of CCM-CL was 62.5%, which is much better than that achieved after the intravenous bolus injection of 'free' colistin. With a slow drug infusion, the safe dose of CCM-CL reached 16 mg/kg, which is double the free colistin, 8 mg/kg. The area under the curve (AUC) levels for CCM-CL were 4.09- and 4.95-fold higher than those for free colistin in terms of AUC0-t and AUC0-inf, respectively. The elimination half-lives of CCM-CL and free colistin groups were 12.46 and 102.23 min, respectively. In the neutropenic mice model with carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia, the 14-day survival rate of the mice treated with CCM-CL was 80%, which was significantly higher than the 30% in the free colistin group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Our results showed that CCM-CL, an encapsulated form of colistin, is safe and effective, and thus may become a drug of choice against MDR-GNB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Existing electric-field integral inversion methods have limited field application conditions, and they are difficult to arrange electric-field measurement points on high-span overhead lines. This paper proposes a non-intrusive voltage measurement method for overhead transmission lines based on the near-end electric-field integration method. First, the electric-field distribution under 10 kV lines is calculated by finite element simulation software. The electric-field distribution of the plumb line and the discrete integral node below the wire are analyzed. Then, based on traditional electric-field integration, a line-voltage-inversion measurement method based on near-end electric-field integration is proposed. In addition, a voltage-monitoring system based on near-end electric-field integration is constructed. Next, the numerical integration types, the number of integration nodes, and the scale coefficient of the near-end region of the inversion algorithm are optimized with the electric-field simulation data. Finally, to verify the voltage-inversion method proposed in this paper, a test platform for overhead-line voltage is constructed using a MEMS electric-field sensor. The results indicate that the voltage-inversion error is 5.75%. The research results will provide theoretical guidance for non-intrusive voltage-inversion measurement of overhead lines. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the third-leading cause of mortality globally, significantly affecting people over 40 years old. COPD is often comorbid with mood disorders; however, they are frequently neglected or undiagnosed in COPD management, thus resulting in unintended treatment outcomes and higher mortality associated with the disease. Although the exact link between COPD and mood disorders remains to be ascertained, there is a broader opinion that inflammatory reactions in the lungs, blood, and inflammation-induced changes in the brain could orchestrate the onset of mood disorders in COPD. Although the current management of mood disorders such as depression in COPD involves using antidepressants, their use has been limited due to tolerability issues. On the other hand, as omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) play a vital role in regulating inflammatory responses, they could be promising alternatives in managing mood disorders in COPD. This review discusses comorbid mood disorders in COPD as well as their influence on the progression and management of COPD. Purpose: to evaluate and monitor the timely thermal ablation changes of rabbit liver by using two elastographic methods—real-time elastography (RTE) and shear wave elastography (SWE)—as compared to contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and physical specimens. Materials and Methods: 20 ablation zones were created in the livers of 20 rabbits using radiofrequency ablation (RFA). After the ablation, RTE and SWE were used to measure the elastic properties of the twenty ablation zones. The consistency of efficacy evaluation for RTE and SWE measurements was analyzed using the Bland–Altman test. The areas of the thermal ablation zones were also measured and compared according to the images provided by RTE, SWE, CEUS, and gross physical specimen measurement. Results: RTE and SWE could clearly display the shape of RFA ablation zones within one hour after the ablation. The average elasticity ratio for the ablation zone measured by RTE was 3.41 ± 0.67 (2.23–4.76); the average elasticity value measured by SWE was 50.7 ± 11.3 kPa (33.2–70.4 kPa). The mean areas of the ablation zones measured with RTE, SWE, gross specimen, and CEUS were 1.089 ± 0.199 cm2, 1.059 ± 0.201 cm2, 1.081 ± 0.201 cm2, and 3.091 ± 0.591 cm2, respectively. The Bland–Altman test showed that RTE and SWE have great consistency. Area measurements by CEUS were significantly larger than those of the other three methods (p < 0.05). Because detectable in several body fluids, such as blood, urine and saliva, exosomes are considered as promising liquid biopsies for early detection and disease monitoring. In this review, we shed light on the involvement of exosomes and their cargos in PDAC progression and their feasibility as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. In addition, limitations and urgent problems required further investigation are also discussed in our review. Moreover, evidence suggests that exosomes with specific surface markers are capable of distinguishing patients with PDAC from healthy individuals. Detectable exosomes in bodily fluids (e.g., blood, urine, saliva, and pancreatic juice) are omnipresent and may serve as promising biomarkers for improving early detection and evaluating patient prognosis. In this review, we shed light on the involvement of exosomes and their cargos in processes related to disease progression, including chemoresistance, angiogenesis, invasion, metastasis, and immunomodulation, and their potential as prognostic markers. Furthermore, we highlight feasible clinical applications and the limitations of exosomes in liquid biopsies as tools for early diagnosis as well as disease monitoring. The influence of residual heat on the fictive temperature modification zone of fused silica for different CO2 laser scanning time intervals was investigated to precisely control the profiles of hydrofluoric (HF) acid-etched fused silica surface, which were formed by the increasing HF acid-etching rate for fused silica with increasing fictive temperature induced by CO2 laser scanning. The surface profiles of HF acid-etched fused silica treated by different scanning time intervals of CO2 laser were measured by a stylus profilometry, and experimental results indicate that the CO2 laser scanning time intervals intensively influence the HF acid-etched surface profiles of fused silica. The increasing depth of surface profiles treated by shorter scanning time intervals shows that the fictive temperature modification zone significantly expands. Numerical simulations of the fictive temperature modification zone induced by different scanning time intervals indicate that the residual heat of CO2 laser scanning with shorter time intervals leads to a dramatical increase in the fictive temperature modification zone. SiO2 sol-gel antireflection film coated on fused silica can reduce the reflection loss and improve the transmittance of the optical component, although it is still prone to laser induced damage. Laser conditioning is an effective way to improve the laser induced damage threshold (LIDT) of SiO2 sol-gel antireflection film. In this paper, single-layer SiO2 sol-gel antireflection films pretreated by triple-frequency laser with different parameters are characterized by the macroscopical parameters, such as transmittance, refractive index, and thickness. The law of surface modification and the defect removal mechanism of the SiO2 sol-gel antireflection film by laser conditioning are obtained. It is found that laser conditioning can reduce the thickness of the film and introduce densification. In addition, laser conditioning can eliminate micro-defects, such as vacancies and voids in the preparation of SiO2 sol-gel antireflection films, which is the main reason to improve the laser damage resistance of films. Finally, the laser conditioning process with three step laser energy combinations of (0.2–0.6–1.0) Fth0 (zero damage threshold) is the best one to obtain high transmittance, and excellent effects on structure modification and defect removal of films. Patients with hematologic malignancies (HMs) have a significantly elevated risk of mortality compared to other cancer patients treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). The prognostic impact of numerous poor outcome indicators has changed, and research has yielded conflicting results. This study aims to determine the ICU and hospital outcomes and risk factors that predict the prognosis of critically ill patients with HMs. In this retrospective study, conducted at a referral hospital in Taiwan, 213 adult patients with HMs who were admitted to the medical ICU were evaluated. We collected clinical data upon hospital and ICU admission. Using a multivariate regression analysis, the predictors of ICU and hospital mortality were assessed. Then, a scoring system (Hospital outcome of critically ill patients with Hematological Malignancies (HHM)) was built to predict hospital outcomes. Most HMs (76.1%) were classified as high grade, and more than one-third of patients experienced a relapsed or refractory disease. The ICU and hospital mortality rates were 55.9% and 71.8%, respectively. Moreover, the disease severity was high (median Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score: 11 and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) score: 28). The multivariate analysis revealed that high-grade HMs, invasive mechanical ventilation requirement, renal replacement therapy initiation in the ICU, and a high SOFA score correlated with ICU mortality. Furthermore, a higher HHM score predicted hospital mortality. This study demonstrates that ICU mortality primarily correlates with the severity of organ dysfunction, whereas the disease status markedly influences hospital outcomes. Simple Summary: The addition of bevacizumab or ramucirumab to systemic therapy for EGFR-mutated non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients provides survival benefits. No study to date has compared the efficacy and safety of these two antiangiogenic therapies (AATs). This study enrolled patients with stage IIIB to IV EGFR-mutated NSCLC who were treated with first-line EGFR-TKIs between January 2014 and May 2022. The progression-free survival (PFS) of patients who received front-line AATs combined with EGFR-TKI therapy was longer than that of patients receiving later-line AATs combined with other therapies (19.6 vs. 10.0 months, p < 0.001). Bevacizumab and ramucirumab did not differ in PFS (24.1 vs. 15.7 months, p = 0.454). No difference in overall survival (OS) was observed between front-line and later-line therapy (non-reach vs. 44.0 months, p = 0.261) or between the two AATs (48.6 vs. 43.0 months, p = 0.924). The incidence of some adverse events such as bleeding and hepatitis was higher for bevacizumab than for ramucirumab but it was not significant. The effectiveness and safety of the two AATs were similar. The combination of bevacizumab or ramucirumab with epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) therapy, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR mutations could have survival benefits. However, no study, to date, has been conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of these two antiangiogenic therapies (AATs). Stage IIIB to IV EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients who received first-line EGFR-TKIs between January 2014 and May 2022 were enrolled. These patients were divided into two groups: those receiving bevacizumab and those receiving ramucirumab as a combination therapy in any line of treatment. Ninety-six patients were enrolled in this study's final analysis. The progression-free survival (PFS) of patients who received front-line AATs combined with EGFR-TKI therapy was longer than that of patients receiving later-line AATs combined with other therapies (19.6 vs. 10.0 months, p < 0.001). No difference in overall survival (OS) was observed between front-line and later-line therapy (non-reach vs. 44.0 months, p = 0.261). Patients who received these two different AATs did not differ in PFS (24.1 vs. 15.7 months, p = 0.454) and OS (48.6 vs. 43.0 months, p = 0.924). In addition, these two AATs showed similar frequencies of the T790M mutation (43.6% vs. 38.2%; p = 0.645). Multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated several AAT cycles as an independent good prognostic factor in OS. The incidence of some adverse events such as bleeding and hepatitis was higher for bevacizumab than for ramucirumab but it was not significant. The stiffness of lower limb joints is a critical characteristic of walking. To investigate the potential of establishing a simple and universal model to describe the characteristics related to vertical vibration during human walking, vertical stiffness is introduced at the knee and hip. A multi-mass-spring model of the human body is established in the vertical direction. In the Fourier form, results of experiments on 14 healthy adults show that the vertical displacements of joints are a function of the leg length and walking cadence, while the ground reaction force is a function of the body weight and walking cadence. The obtained universal equations of vertical displacement and ground reaction force are employed as the input parameters to the proposed multi-mass-spring model. Thus, the vertical stiffness in the knee and hip can then be estimated simultaneously by the subject's weight, leg length, and walking cadence. The variation of vertical stiffness shows different time-varying trends in different gait phases across the entire gait cycle. Finally, the proposed model for vertical stiffness estimation is validated by the vertical oscillation of the pelvis. The average error across three gait cycles for all subjects is 20.48%, with a standard deviation of 5.44%. These results display that the vertical stiffness of knee and hip across the entire gait cycle can be directly estimated by individual parameters that are easy to measure. Timely repair of fused silica damage ensures the stable operation of high-power laser systems. In the traditional repair process, the material nearby the damaged area is gradually ablated with CO2 or femtosecond laser. Subsequently, homogenization and residual stress removal are required because of the microcracks and thermal accumulation generated with the ablation. As a result, the repair efficiency is greatly restricted. In this paper, a new method using in-volume, selective femtosecond laser-induced etching to repair the damage of fused silica is proposed. The region irradiated by femtosecond laser becomes more susceptible to the etching solution due to its constitutive characteristics having undergone chemical restructuring. In this way, material nearby the damaged area transparent to the laser radiation is modified locally inside the volume. A femtosecond laser is used to scan the damaged area with a 3D hollow trajectory. The applicable modification of fused silica occurs when the single pulse energy is approximately 2 μJ to 5 μJ, the repetition frequency is approximately 200 kHz to 500 kHz, and the scanning speed is approximately 10 mm/s. Then, the etching solution reacts quickly along the 3D profile of the modified path, and the damaged area is removed as a whole piece. This method can greatly reduce the workload of repair, and the etching process of fused silica is carried out synchronously. So, the etching efficiency is not affected by the number of damage points. In addition, the weak reaction between the etching solution and the substrate could homogenize the interface. It provides an efficient way to repair the surface damage of fused silica. In this study, the performance of a current sensor based on giant magnetostrictive materials (GMM) and fiber Bragg grating (FBG) has been improved by optimizing the spectral characteristics of gratings. By analyzing the influence of FBG on the current sensor characteristics, three key parameters (gate region length, refractive index modulation depth, and toe cutting system) are selected for optimization. The optimal grating parameters are determined to improve the linearity and sensitivity of sensor output. Experimental tests reveal that after grating optimization, the current sensor shows excellent performance parameters, including a linearity of 0.9942, sensitivity of 249.75 mV/A, and good stability in the temperature range of 0–60 °C. The symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) severely affect the life quality of the elderly population. Low-level laser therapy, heat therapy, and massage therapy are widely used as independent treatments for joint disorders. However, there are very limited reports of a combination of these therapies into an integrated device for KOA so far. This study aims to develop a novel hybrid therapeutic device that can meet various requirements for knee therapy. Our hybrid therapeutic device (CUHK-OA-M2) integrated with low-level laser therapy, heat therapy, and local massage therapy can effectively provide patients with KOA with relief from their clinical symptoms. A pilot test of 50 community-dwelling elderly volunteers with KOA was performed. Finally, 43 volunteers completed two treatment periods (30 days each) and two post-treatment periods (30 days each). The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores were collected and analyzed after each period. The outputs of the low-level laser, heating, and massage therapies significantly decreased the WOMAC scores in terms of pain, stiffness, function and total WOMAC after two treatment periods (p < 0.05). Although the score increased slightly after the post-treatment period, it was still lower than the baseline, indicating the treatment outcome could last for an extended period. Therefore, our CUHK-OA-M2 device, as an integrated multi-functional hybrid therapeutic device, is therapeutically significant for treating osteoarthritis symptoms on the knee joints of elderly subjects. Lower limb rehabilitation exoskeleton robots (LLRERs) play an important role in lower limb rehabilitation training and assistance walking for patients with lower limb movement disorders. In order to reduce and eliminate adverse effects on the accuracy of human motion gait tracking during walking with an LLRER, which is caused by the gravity and friction, the periodic ground shock force, and the human–exoskeleton interaction force, this paper proposes a feedforward–feedback hybrid control strategy of sliding mode impulsive control with gravity and friction compensation, based on the event-triggered mechanism of Lyapunov function. Firstly, to realize high-precision gait tracking with bounded error, some constraints on controller parameters are deduced by analyzing the Lyapunov-based stability. Secondly, the Zeno behavior of impulsive event triggers is excluded by the analysis of three different cases of the triggering time sequence. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid controller is verified by the numerical simulation of the LLRER human–exoskeleton integrated system based on a three-link simplified model. It shows that an event-triggered sliding mode impulsive control strategy with gravity and friction compensation can achieve complete gait tracking with bounded error and has excellent dynamic performance under the constraints. Cu-Ag composite pastes consisting of carboxylate-capped Ag nanoparticles, spray-pyrolyzed Ag submicron particles, and copper formate were developed in this study for low-temperature low-pressure bonding. The joints between the Cu, Ni/Au, and Ag finished substrates can be well formed at temperatures as low as 160 °C under a load pressure of 1.6 MPa. The joints with Cu substrates possess 18.0 MPa bonding strength, while those with Ag surface finish could be enhanced to 23.3 MPa. When subject to sintering under 10 MPa at 160 °C, the electrical resistivity of the sintered structure on metal-coated polymeric substrates was around 11~17 μΩ-cm and did not differ too much when subjected to harsh reliability tests such as mechanical bending and thermal cycling tests, as well as electrical current stressing. This real-world study evaluated the efficacy of once-daily long-acting β2-agonist (LABA)/long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) fixed-dose combinations (FDCs) for improving lung function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Patients with COPD who were treated with once-daily LABA/LAMA FDCs for 12 months were included. We evaluated their lung function improvement after 12 months of treatment with different LABA/LAMA FDCs. A total of 198 patients with COPD who were treated with once-daily LABA/LAMA FDCs were analyzed. A total of 114 patients were treated with umeclidinium/vilanterol (UMEC/VIL); 34 patients were treated with indacaterol/glycopyrronium (IND/GLY); and 50 patients were treated with tiotropium/olodaterol (TIO/OLO). The forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) was significantly increased in the patients treated with all three once-daily FDCs (55.2% to 60.9%, p = 0.012 for UMEC/VIL, 58.2% to 63.6%, p = 0.023 for IND/GLY, and 54.1% to 57.7%, p = 0.009 for TIO/OLO). The treatment of COPD patients with TIO/OLO resulted in a significant improvement in both forced vital capacity (FVC%) (71.7% to 77.9%, p = 0.009) and residual volume (RV%) (180.1% to 152.5%, p < 0.01) compared with those treated with UMEC/VIL (FVC%: 75.1% to 81.5%, p < 0.001; RV%:173.8% to 165.2%, p = 0.231) or IND/GLY (FVC%: 73.9% to 79.3%, p = 0.08; RV%:176.8% to 168.3%, p = 0.589). How to improve the bonding strength of polymers to metals has been one of the challenges in joining fields. It is generally assumed that laser transmission joining is better than laser conduction joining (LCJ) for transparent polymers, and few studies have been focused on LCJ. However, by introducing beam oscillation, an excellent result was obtained in the LCJ of transparent polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to 304 stainless steel. The interface defects of thermal decomposition and bubbles could be eliminated or reduced more efficiently in oscillating laser conduction joining (O-LCJ) rather than transmission joining. Correspondingly, the tensile shear force of joint O-LCJ could be increased by 23.8%, and the plasticity characterized by tensile displacement could be increased by seven times. The improvement mechanism was attributed to two factors by calculating the interface energy distribution and analyzing the force state at the interface. One is the homogenization of interface energy distribution caused by beam oscillation, which decreases the degradation and destruction of polymer macromolecular chains induced by high temperature. The other is the formation of interface bi-directional forces that both inhibit the porosity formation and intensify the chemical reactions. Arsenic is an environmental factor associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Since macrophages play a crucial role in regulating EMT, we studied the effects of arsenic on macrophage polarization. We first determined the arsenic concentrations to be used by cell viability assays in conjunction with previous studies. In our results, arsenic treatment increased the alternatively activated (M2) macrophage markers, including arginase 1 (ARG-1) gene expression, chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 16 (CCL16), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), and the cluster of differentiation 206 (CD206) surface marker. Arsenic-treated macrophages promoted A549 lung epithelial cell invasion and migration in a cell co-culture model and a 3D gel cell co-culture model, confirming that arsenic treatment promoted EMT in lung epithelial cells. We confirmed that arsenic induced autophagy/mitophagy by microtubule-associated protein 1 light-chain 3-II (LC3 II) and phosphor-Parkin (p-Parkin) protein markers. The autophagy inhibitor chloroquine (CQ) recovered the expression of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) gene in arsenic-treated M1 macrophages, which represents a confirmation that arsenic indeed induced the repolarization of classically activated (M1) macrophage to M2 macrophages through the autophagy/mitophagy pathway. Next, we verified that arsenic increased M2 cell markers in mouse blood and lungs. This study suggests that mitophagy is involved in the arsenic-induced M1 macrophage switch to an M2-like phenotype. Increasing evidence suggested that the expression and inter-regulation of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), microRNA (miRNA), and messenger RNA (mRNA) were related to the development of diabetes. Based on bioinformatics analysis, this study aimed to comprehensively analyze the dysregulated RNA molecules related to new-onset type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Twenty-four patients with new-onset T2DM were included as cases, and sex- and age-matched participants were included as controls. The differentially expressed lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs between the two groups were screened by RNA sequencing. LncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network and enrichment analysis were used to reveal the RNA molecules that were potentially associated with T2DM and their early changes. A total of 123 lncRNAs, 49 miRNAs, and 312 mRNAs were differentially expressed in the new-onset T2DM (fold change ≥ 1.5 and p value < 0.05). Functional analysis revealed that differentially expressed RNAs were likely to play essential roles in diabetes-related pathways. In addition, the protein–protein interaction (PPI) network screened multiple hub mRNAs, and lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA networks showed that a single miRNA could be related to multiple lncRNAs, and then they coregulated more mRNAs. SLC25A4, PLCB1, AGTR2, PRKN, and SCD5 were shown to be important mRNAs in T2DM, and miR-199b-5p, miR-202-5p, miR-548o-3p as well as miR-1255b-5p could be involved in their regulation. In conclusion, several new and previously identified dysregulated lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs were found to be vital biomarkers in T2DM. Their alterations and interactions could modulate the pathophysiology of T2DM. Those findings may provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of T2DM.
