In order to enhance the sensitivity of elastomers, pores were integrated into their structure. These pores facilitate the adjustment of thickness in response to external pressure variations, thereby improving the sensitivity of pressure sensors. Pores were introduced by emulsifying immiscible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and water with a surfactant. By controlling the water content in the PDMS and water emulsion, we controlled the size, density, uniformity, and spatial distribution (2D or 3D) of the pores within the PDMS matrix. The presence of these pores significantly improved the sensitivity of PDMS under low external pressure conditions compared to high pressures. Specifically, porous PDMS exhibited approximately 10-times greater sensitivity under low-pressure conditions than non-porous PDMS. The effectiveness of porous PDMS was demonstrated through dynamic loading and unloading detection of a small Lego toy and monitoring of human heartbeats. These results highlight the efficacy of our pressure sensor based on porous PDMS, which is fabricated through a simple and cost-effective process using a PDMS and water emulsion. The food industry has tried to enhance production processes in response to the increasing demand for safe, high-quality Home Meal Replacement (HMR) products. While robotic automation systems are recognized for their potential to improve efficiency, their high costs and risks make them less accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study presents a simulation-based approach to evaluating the feasibility and impact of robotic automation on HMR production, focusing on two distinct production cases. By modeling large-scale and order-based production cases using simulation software, the study identified key bottlenecks, worker utilization, and throughput improvements. It demonstrated that robotic automation increased throughput by 31.2% in large-scale production (Case A) and 12.0% in order-based production (Case B). The actual implementation showed results that closely matched the simulation, validating the approach. Moreover, the study confirmed that a single worker could operate the robotic system effectively, highlighting the practicality of robotics for SMEs. Eggs are a highly nutritious food; however, those are also fragile and susceptible to cracks, which can lead to bacterial contamination and economic losses. Traditional methods for detecting cracks, particularly in processed eggs, often fall short due to changes in the eggs' physical properties during processing. This study was aimed at developing a novel device for detecting egg cracks using electric discharge phenomena. The system was designed to apply a high-voltage electric field to the eggs, where sparks were generated at crack locations due to the differences in electrical conductivity between the insulative eggshell and the more conductive inner membrane exposed by the cracks. The detection apparatus consisted of a custom-built high-voltage power supply, flexible electrode pins, and a rotation mechanism to ensure a complete 360-degree inspection of each egg. Numerical simulations were performed to analyze the distribution of the electric field and charge density, confirming the method's validity. The results demonstrated that this system could efficiently detect cracks in both raw and processed eggs, overcoming the limitations of existing detection technologies. This study simplified the creation of holographic stereograms using AI-generated prompts, overcoming the conventional need for complex equipment and professional software. AI enabled the generation of detailed perspective images suitable for various content styles. The generated images were interpolated, upscaled, and printed using a CHIMERA holoprinter to obtain high-quality holograms. This method significantly reduces the required time and expertise, thereby making holographic content creation accessible. With an estimated 32,000 annual fatalities, fishing vessel accidents are 100-fold deadlier than those involving merchant ships. Despite ongoing safety training, accident rates remain high. Since most fishing vessel accidents occur in small fishing vessels (<12 m) and are primarily attributable to human elements, this study focuses on small fishing vessel accidents where the human element is the primary cause, exploring preventive measures for major accident types and performing a type-specific risk assessment. First, we performed a quantitative analysis of frequently occurring accidents and the indirect factors influencing the human element using maritime accident statistics and surveys, respectively. Next, we employed the fault tree analysis technique proposed by the International Maritime Organization in its Formal Safety Assessment to quantitatively assess the rate of accidents caused by the human element attributable to various indirect factors. The primary indirect factors most significantly impacting the human element were ship factors (22.8%), people factors (18.9%), and organization on board (17.4%). Secondary factors included personal negligence (14.1%), aging equipment and poor maintenance (10.3%), and harsh natural conditions such as rough waves (9.6%). Salmon, rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, has a short shelf life of 1 to 3 days when stored at 2 to 8 °C. Freezing, used for long-term preservation, often results in ice crystal formation. Ice crystals can cause structural damage, leading to cell wall rupture, which can affect the texture and cause nutrient loss. Ultimately, this process reduces the overall quality of the salmon. Supercooling, which cools food below its freezing temperature without forming ice crystals, offers an alternative. This study investigated the effects of oscillating magnetic fields (OMFs) and pulsed electric fields (PEFs) on ice crystal formation during salmon supercooling. The results showed that using OMFs and PEFs in supercooling reduced the storage temperature of salmon, maintaining a similar thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) value to that of frozen and refrigerated samples. There was no significant difference in meat color between the fresh and frozen samples, and drip loss weight was comparable between the fresh and supercooled samples. The microbiological counts were the lowest in the supercooled samples compared to the frozen and refrigerated ones. Digital holographic stereograms have met expectations in various fields since their introduction. Traditionally, recording large outdoor physical models has required time-consuming and complex processes involving professional tools and technical expertise. This study, however, aims to streamline the process by utilizing simple equipment, such as an iPhone, basic tools, free phone applications, and free software. Four successful experiments were conducted and evaluated using the digital CHIMERA holographic stereogram-printing technique combined with photogrammetry, Gaussian splatting, light detection and ranging (LiDAR), and image interpolation. This approach records large-scale outdoor content more efficiently and effectively. The selected method allows the development and large-scale dissemination of realistic outdoor content holograms to the public. This study explored the positive effects of a six-week Social–Emotional and Ethical Learning® (SEE Learning) program on resilience and social and emotional competences, adapted for elementary students in Daegu, South Korea, a region strongly affected by the first outbreak of COVID-19. A total of 348 third- and fourth-grade students from 15 elementary schools participated, and the curriculum was tailored, emphasizing key areas such as resilience, attention, kindness, attention training, and compassion. Repeated measures analysis of variance (RMANOVA) tests showed statistically significant improvements between pre- and post-tests in resilience and its subscales, including self-efficacy, tolerance of negative affect, positive support relations, power of control, and spontaneity, as well as in social and emotional competencies, including emotional regulation, social skills, empathy, and social tendencies. Despite a lack of maintenance in all areas, at follow-up, the mean scores for self-efficacy, tolerance of negative affect, and positive support relations, as well as emotional regulation, social skills, empathy, and social tendency, remained higher than pre-test levels, suggesting some lasting benefits. The findings underscore the potential of the SEE Learning program integrated with resilience, mindfulness, compassion, and ethical practices to enhance students' resilience and social and emotional well-being. The Marine Stewardship Council estimates that approximately 38 million people worldwide work in fisheries, and more than one-third of the global population is dependent on aquatic products for protein, highlighting the importance of sustainable fisheries. The FISH Safety Foundation reports that 300 fishers die every day. To achieve sustainable fisheries as a primary industry, the safety of human resources is of the utmost importance. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) have made efforts towards this goal, including the issuance of agreements and guidelines to reduce industrial accidents among fishing vessel workers. The criterion for applying these guidelines is usually a total ship length ≥12 m or ≥24 m. However, a vast majority of registered fishing vessels are <12 m long, and the fishers of these vessels suffer substantially more industrial accidents. Thus, we conducted a quantitative analysis of 1093 industrial accidents affecting fishers on fishing vessels <12 m in length, analyzed risk using a Bayesian network analysis (a method proposed by the Formal Safety Assessment of the IMO), and administered a questionnaire survey to a panel of experts in order to ascertain the risk for different types of industrial accidents and propose specific measures to reduce this risk. Featured Application: This work will make it possible to easily set up snapshot holographic portrait studios and allow holographic portraits to be developed and disseminated to the public on a larger scale. For 60 years, high-energy pulsed lasers have enabled the recording of extremely realistic portraits of living people within a few nanoseconds. In the 21st century, this confidential technique, which requires great skill and equipment, has almost disappeared because of the final monochromatic color of the holograms, which does not appeal to the public. In this study, we show that ultra-realistic, full-color, and full-parallax snapshot holographic portraits can be recorded using a limited number of synchronized HD cameras. Experiments were successfully conducted using the digital CHIMERA holographic stereogram printing technique combined with image interpolation using a neural network. Doxorubicin (DOX), an effective chemotherapeutic drug, causes cardiotoxicity in a cumulative and dose-dependent manner. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of hot-water extract of Capsella bursa-pastoris (CBW) on DOX-induced cardiotoxicity (DICT). We utilized H9c2 rat cardiomyocytes and MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells to evaluate the effects of CBW on DOX-induced cell death. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and oxygen consumption rate were measured in H9c2 cells. C57BL/6 mice were treated with DOX and CBW to assess their impact on various cardiac parameters. Human-induced pluripotent stem-cell-derived cardiomyocytes were also used to investigate DOX-induced electrophysiological changes and the potential ameliorative effects of CBW. UPLC-TQ/MS analysis identified seven flavonoids in CBW, with luteolin-7-O-glucoside and isoorientin as the major compounds. CBW inhibited DOX-induced death of H9c2 rat cardiomyocytes but did not affect DOX-induced death of MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells. CBW increased SOD levels in a dose-dependent manner, reducing ROS production and increasing the oxygen consumption rate in H9c2 cells. The heart rate, RR interval, QT, and ST prolongation remarkably recovered in C57BL/6 mice treated with the combination of DOX and CBW compared to those in mice treated with DOX alone. Administration of CBW with DOX effectively alleviated collagen accumulation, cell death in mouse heart tissues, and reduced the levels of creatinine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in serum. Furthermore, DOX-induced pathological electrophysiological features in human-induced pluripotent stem-cell-derived cardiomyocytes were ameliorated by CBW. CBW may prevent DICT by stabilizing SOD and scavenging ROS. The presence of flavonoids, particularly luteolin-7-O-glucoside and isoorientin, in CBW may contribute to its protective effects. Distal radius fractures are the most prevalent upper extremity fractures, posing a significant public health concern. Recent studies comparing regional and general anesthesia for postoperative pain management after these fractures have yielded conflicting results. This meta-analysis aimed to compare the effectiveness of regional and general anesthesia concerning postoperative pain management and opioid consumption following distal radius fracture surgery. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases to identify relevant randomized controlled trials. Four randomized trials involving 248 participants were included in the analysis. A pooled analysis revealed that regional anesthesia led to significantly reduced postoperative pain scores at 2 h compared to general anesthesia (SMD −2.03; 95% CI −2.88–−1.17). However, no significant differences in pain scores were observed between the two anesthesia types after 12 h post-surgery. Regional anesthesia was associated with lower total opioid consumption (SMD −0.76; 95% CI −1.25–−0.26) and fewer occurrences of nausea and vomiting compared to the general anesthesia. Nonetheless, opioid consumption on the first day post-discharge was significantly higher in the regional anesthesia group (SMD 0.83; 95% CI 0.47–1.20). The analgesic superiority of regional anesthesia is confined to the early postoperative hours with overall lower opioid use but a notable increase in opioid consumption on the first day post-discharge, potentially attributable to rebound pain. The global commercial fishing industry, which employs approximately 159,800 seafarers worldwide (as reported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), faces a significant challenge in terms of safety. According to estimates by the International Labour Organization, approximately 24,000 seafarers lose their lives each year in fishing-related accidents. However, most existing guidelines for preventing maritime accidents primarily target vessels involved in international navigation, often inadequately addressing the unique risks faced by small-scale boats operating in coastal areas. This study focuses on trap fishery, a widely practiced fishing method globally, analyzing quantitative data from 1790 maritime accidents and conducting a survey involving 101 seafarers in South Korea. Utilizing Bayesian network analysis, aligned with Formal Safety Assessment protocols, the authors developed preventive guidelines aiming to reduce the rate of fatal accidents. The guidelines, derived from the data analysis, are anticipated to provide invaluable assistance to seafarers engaged in trap fishery not only in South Korea but also across various countries worldwide. Simple Summary: Appendicitis is a common condition necessitating emergency surgery. Individuals with hematologic disorders often have abnormalities in blood counts, which can act as risk factors for surgical complications. This study explores surgical risks in appendicitis patients with hematologic disorders, using a retrospective analysis from January 2000 to June 2021. Among the 131 identified patients, 89 were studied; 75 underwent surgery, while 14 received non-surgical treatments. No significant relationship was found between clinical characteristics, hematologic disease risk, severity of appendicitis, and surgical complications. Improved preoperative absolute neutrophil count and platelet counts were higher than those of initial findings in patients without surgical complications. Lower preoperative absolute neutrophil counts and platelet counts were correlated with extended hospital stays. The findings suggest that for hematologic patients with appendicitis, meticulous preoperative laboratory evaluations followed by minimally invasive appendectomy could be a safer approach without increasing the risk of severe complications compared to non-surgical management. Attempts have been made to introduce microstructures or wrinkles into the elastomer surface to increase the sensitivity of the elastomer. However, the disadvantage of this method is that when a force is applied to the pressure sensor, the contact area with the electrode is changed and the linear response characteristic of the pressure sensor is reduced. The biggest advantage of the capacitive pressure sensor using an elastomer is that it is a characteristic that changes linearly according to the change in pressure, so it is not suitable to introduce microstructures or wrinkles into the elastomer surface. A method of increasing the sensitivity of the capacitive pressure sensor while maintaining the linearity according to the pressure change is proposed. We proposed a bubble-popping PDMS by creating pores inside the elastomer. The sensitivity of the pressure sensor made of the bubble-popping PDMS was approximately 4.6 times better than that of the pressure sensor without pores, and the pressure sensor made of the bubble-popping PDMS showed a high linear response characteristic to the external pressure change. Micro- and nanofabrication on polymer substrate is integral to the development of flexible electronic devices, including touch screens, transparent conductive electrodes, organic photovoltaics, batteries, and wearable devices. The demand for flexible and wearable devices has spurred interest in large-area, high-throughput production methods. Roll-to-roll (R2R) nanoimprint lithography (NIL) is a promising technique for producing nano-scale patterns rapidly and continuously. However, bending in a large-scale R2R system can result in non-uniform force distribution during the imprinting process, which reduces pattern quality. This study investigates the effects of R2R imprinting module geometry parameters on force distribution via simulation, using grey relational analysis to identify optimal parameter levels and ANOVA to determine the percentage of each parameter contribution. The study also investigates the length and force ratio on a backup roller used for bending compensation. The simulation results and the artificial neural network (ANN) model enable the prediction of nip pressure and force distribution non-uniformity along the roller, allowing the selection of the optimal roller geometry and force ratio for minimal non-uniformity on a specific R2R system. Early life stress (ELS) in developing children has been linked to physical and psychological sequelae in adulthood. In the present study, we investigated the effects of ELS on brain and behavioral development by establishing a novel ELS model that combined the maternal separation paradigm and mesh platform condition. We found that the novel ELS model caused anxiety- and depression-like behaviors and induced social deficits and memory impairment in the offspring of mice. In particular, the novel ELS model induced more enhanced depression-like behavior and memory impairment than the maternal separation model, which is the established ELS model. Furthermore, the novel ELS caused upregulation of arginine vasopressin expression and downregulation of GABAergic interneuron markers, such as parvalbumin (PV), vasoactive intestinal peptide, and calbindin-D28k (CaBP-28k), in the brains of the mice. Finally, the offspring in the novel ELS model showed a decreased number of cortical PV-, CaBP-28k-positive cells and an increased number of cortical ionized calcium-binding adaptors-positive cells in their brains compared to mice in the established ELS model. Patients scheduled for cardiac surgery often have anemia and iron deficiency. We investigated the effect of the preoperative administration of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (IVFC) in patients with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) who were due to undergo off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB). Patients who were due to undergo elective OPCAB between February 2019 and March 2022 who had IDA (n = 86) were included in this single center, randomized, parallel-group controlled study. The participants were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive either IVFC or placebo treatment. Postoperative hematologic parameters [hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit, serum iron concentration, total iron-binding capacity, transferrin saturation, transferrin concentration, and ferritin concentration] and the changes in these parameters during the follow-up period were the primary and secondary outcomes, respectively. The tertiary endpoints were early clinical outcomes, such as the volume of mediastinal drainage and the need for blood transfusions. IVFC treatment significantly reduced the need for red blood cell (RBC) and platelet transfusions. Despite receiving fewer RBC transfusions, patients in the treatment group had higher levels of Hb, hematocrit, and serum iron and ferritin concentrations during weeks 1 and 12 after surgery. No serious adverse events occurred during the study period. Preoperative IVFC treatment in patients with IDA undergoing OPCAB improved the values of the hematologic parameters and iron bioavailability. Augmented reality (AR) in 3D has been proposed as a way to overcome the shortcomings of 2D drawings. In particular, marker-based AR is known to be more accurate in implementation, but it is not easy to use on construction sites because it requires more time and effort to create corresponding markers for information. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop a building information modeling (BIM)-based AR construction work support system that can be applied to construction sites by automatically generating markers. The system algorithm consists of three modules. The first module classifies and groups the objects of the BIM-based 3D model by work order. The second is used to reconstruct the 3D model by groups and automatically generate the corresponding individual markers for each object. The third specifies the marker position and implements AR by automatically matching of 3D model objects to the corresponding markers. To verify this system, a case study was implemented by projecting the BIM-marker-based AR of a 3D model on an existing building. Methotrexate (MTX), a folate antagonist, is used in various fields, including malignancies and rheumatoid or inflammatory autoimmune diseases. MTX is used for the non-surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancies and the elective termination of pregnancy. The teratogenic effects of MTX have been recognized since the 1960s. Fetal methotrexate syndrome (FMS) was established based on the study of congenital anomalies. Generally, there is a risk of FMS when MTX is used between four and six weeks after conception. Here, we reviewed the literature regarding MTX usage and described a case of FMS that was born with a rare anomaly, such as tibial hemimelia, in a mother who had received MTX 4 months before conception for the management of an ectopic pregnancy. Appropriate postoperative antibiotic treatment in patients with infective endocarditis (IE) reduces the risks of recurrence and mortality. However, concerns about adverse drug reactions arise due to prolonged antibiotic usage. Therefore, we compared the recurrence and mortality rates according to the duration of postoperative antibiotic therapy in patients with IE. From 2005 to 2017, we retrospectively reviewed 416 patients with IE treated at a tertiary hospital in South Korea; among these, 216 patients who underwent heart valve surgery and received appropriate antibiotics were enrolled. The patients were divided into two groups based on the duration of usage of postoperative antibiotic therapy; the duration of postoperative antibiotic therapy was more than two weeks in 156 patients (72.2%) and two weeks or less in 60 patients (27.8%). The primary endpoint was IE relapse. The secondary endpoints were 1-year IE recurrence, 1-year mortality, and postoperative complication rates. The median age was 53 (interquartile range: 38–62) years. The relapse rate of IE was 0.9% (2/216). There was no statistical difference in relapse (0.0% vs. 1.3%, p = 0.379), 1-year recurrence (1.7% vs. 1.3%, p = 0.829), or 1-year mortality (10.0% vs. 5.8%, p = 0.274) between patients with postoperative antibiotic administration of two weeks or less versus more than two weeks. The duration of postoperative antibiotic therapy did not affect the 1-year mortality rate (log-rank test, p = 0.393). In conclusion, there was no statistically significant difference in recurrence, mortality, or postoperative complications according to the duration of postoperative antibiotic therapy. Insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is an important power device for the conversion, control, and transmission of semiconductor power, and is used in various industrial fields. The IGBT module currently uses silicone gel as an insulating layer. Since higher power density and more severe temperature applications have become the trend according to the development of electronic device industry, insulating materials with improved heat resistance and insulation performances should be developed. In this study, we intended to synthesize a new insulating material with enhanced thermal stability and reduced thermal conductivity. Poly(imide-siloxane) (PIS) was prepared and crosslinked through a hydrosilylation reaction to obtain a semi-solid Crosslinked PIS. Thermal decomposition temperature, thermal conductivity, optical transparency, dielectric constant, and rheological property of the Crosslinked PIS were investigated and compared to those of a commercial silicone gel. Therefore, the proper treatment for removing the contaminants in the powder was required without compromising their quality properties. This study was conducted (1) to determine a suitable pasteurization method for sprout barley powder, and (2) to investigate the effect of vacuum-steam heating combination treatment on the quality change and the lethality of microorganisms in sprout barley powder. The heating pattern of sprout barley powder was elucidated with a vacuum-thermal combination system consisting of a vacuum chamber, overhead stirrer, far-infrared heater, and PID (Proportional-Integral-Differential) controller. In addition, the mixing patterns of sprout barley powder, depending on the types of stirring blades, were evaluated by discrete element modeling using EDEM™ software. The vacuum-steam combination heating system was fabricated using the investigated pre-design factors. The quality change in sprout barely powder was evaluated by measuring the microbial inactivation, CIE values (L*, a*, b*, ΔE), and water activity (aw). During the pasteurization process, steam could be directly injected into the chamber at regular intervals for two hours to transfer moisture and heat to the powder. By combining steam and vacuum conditions, the population of E. coli O157:H7 in the powder was reduced by 4.33 log CFU/g, eliminating all E. coli O157:H7 in the powder. It is difficult to assess the characteristics of marine debris, especially on hard-to-reach places such as uninhabited islands, rocky coasts, and seashore cliffs. In this study, to overcome the difficulties, we developed a method for marine debris assessment using a segmentation model and images obtained by UAVs. The method was tested and verified on an uninhabited island in Korea with a rocky coast and a seashore cliff. Most of the debris was stacked on beaches with low slopes and/or concave shapes. The number of debris items on the whole coast estimated by the mapping was 1295, which was considered to be the actual number of coastal debris items. However, the number of coastal debris items estimated by conventional monitoring method-based statistical estimation was 6741 (±1960.0), which was severely overestimated compared with the mapping method. The segmentation model shows a relatively high F1-score of ~0.74 when estimating a covered area of ~177.4 m2. The developed method could provide reliable estimates of the class of debris density and the covered area, which is crucial information for coastal pollution assessment and management on hard-to-reach places in Korea. Here, a highly sensitive triboelectric bending sensor in non-contact mode operation, less sensitive to strain, is demonstrated by designing multiple triangular prisms at both sides of the polydimethylsiloxane film. The sensor can detect bending in a strained condition (up to 20%) as well as bending direction with quite high linear sensitivity (~0.12/degree) up to 120°, due to the electrostatic induction effect between Al and poly (glycerol sebacate) methacrylate. Further increase of the bending angle to 135° significantly increases the sensitivity to 0.16/degree, due to the contact electrification between them. Graphene oxide-cysteamine-silver nanoparticle (GCA)/silver nanowire (AgNW)/GCA/colorless poly(amide-imide) (cPAI) structures based on cPAI substrates with polyimide and polyamide syntheses were fabricated to study their characteristics. A layer of electrodes was constructed using a sandwich structure—such as GCA/AgNW/GCA—with cPAI used as a substrate to increase the heat resistance and improve their mechanical properties. Furthermore, to overcome the disadvantages of AgNWs—such as their high surface roughness and weak adhesion between the substrate and electrode layers—electrodes with embedded structures were fabricated using a peel-off process. Through bending, tapping, and durability tests, it was confirmed that these multilayer electrodes exhibited better mechanical durability than conventional AgNW electrodes. Resistive random-access memory based on GCA/AgNW/GCA/cPAI electrodes was fabricated, and its applicability to nonvolatile memory was confirmed. The memory device had an ON/OFF current ratio of ~104@0.5 V, exhibiting write-once-read-many time characteristics, maintaining these memory characteristics for up to 300 sweep cycles. The increasing interest in plant phenolic compounds in the past few years has become necessary because of their several important physicochemical properties. Thus, their identification through non-destructive methods has become crucial. This study carried out comparative non-destructive measurements of Arabidopsis thaliana leaf powder sample phenolic compounds using Fourier-transform infrared and near-infrared spectroscopic techniques under six distinct stress conditions. The prediction analysis of 600 leaf powder samples under different stress conditions (LED lights and drought) was performed using PLSR, PCR, and NAS-based HLA/GO regression analysis methods. The results obtained through FT-NIR spectroscopy yielded the highest correlation coefficient ( R p 2 ) value of 0.999, with a minimum error (RMSEP) value of 0.003 mg/g, based on the PLSR model using the MSC preprocessing method, which was slightly better than the correlation coefficient ( R p 2 ) value of 0.980 with an error (RMSEP) value of 0.055 mg/g for FT-IR spectroscopy. Additionally, beta coefficient plots present spectral differences and the identification of important spectral signatures sensitive to the phenolic compounds in the measured powdered samples. Thus, the obtained results demonstrated that FT-NIR spectroscopy combined with partial least squares regression (PLSR) and suitable preprocessing method has a solid potential for non-destructively predicting phenolic compounds in Arabidopsis thaliana leaf powder samples. Most freeze-sensitive vaccines are stored between 2 °C and 8 °C upon manufacturing and until they are eventually administered in intermediate vaccine stores and health facilities. This so-called "cold chain" of vaccine distribution is strictly regulated at these specific temperatures to avoid freeze damage. Liquid formulations of particular vaccines (e.g., aluminum-adsorbed tetanus toxoid (TT)) will irreversibly lose their immunogenicity once frozen. Using an oscillating magnetic field (OMF), supercooling can inhibit ice crystal nucleation effectively; water is susceptible to influence by a strong magnetic field, allowing normal water dynamics even in subzero freezing conditions. This recently developed technology—composed of a custom-designed electromagnet unit producing an optimal field strength (50 mT) at a specific frequency (1 Hz)—was successfully used to inhibit the formation of ice crystals in aluminum adjuvant TT vaccines, therefore preventing any visible damage in the vaccines' microscopic structure. Despite being subject to temperatures far below their freezing point (up to −14 °C) for up to seven days, the TT vaccines showed no freeze damage on physical appearances. Results were further validated using shake tests and light microscopy. As storage and freeze-protection become more critical during times of increased vaccination efforts—particularly against COVID-19—this supercooling technology can be a promising solution to distribution problems by removing concern for temperature abuse or shock-induced freezing. We aimed to increase the processing area of the roll-to-roll (R2R) nanoimprint lithography (NIL) process for high productivity, using a long roller. It is common for a long roller to have bending deformation, geometric errors and misalignment. This causes the non-uniformity of contact pressure between the rollers, which leads to defects such as non-uniform patterning. The non-uniformity of the contact pressure of the conventional R2R NIL system was investigated through finite element (FE) analysis and experiments in the conventional system. To solve the problem, a new large-area R2R NIL uniform pressing system with five multi-backup rollers was proposed and manufactured instead of the conventional system. As a preliminary experiment, the possibility of uniform contact pressure was confirmed by using only the pressure at both ends and one backup roller in the center. A more even contact pressure was achieved by using all five backup rollers and applying an appropriate pushing force to each backup roller. Machine learning techniques were applied to find the optimal combination of the pushing forces. In the conventional pressing process, it was confirmed that pressure deviation of the contact area occurred at a level of 44%; when the improved system was applied, pressure deviation dropped to 5%. Computer-based data processing capabilities have evolved to handle a lot of information. As such, the complexity of three-dimensional (3D) models (e.g., animations or real-time voxels) containing large volumes of information has increased exponentially. This rapid increase in complexity has led to problems with recording and transmission. In this study, we propose a method of efficiently managing and compressing animation information stored in the 3D point-clouds sequence. A compressed point-cloud is created by reconfiguring the points based on their voxels. Compared with the original point-cloud, noise caused by errors is removed, and a preprocessing procedure that achieves high performance in a redundant processing algorithm is proposed. The results of experiments and rendering demonstrate an average file-size reduction of 40% using the proposed algorithm. It has been pointed out that the act of carrying a heavy object that exceeds a certain weight by a worker at a construction site is a major factor that puts physical burden on the worker's musculoskeletal system. However, due to the nature of the construction site, where there are a large number of workers simultaneously working in an irregular space, it is difficult to figure out the weight of the object carried by the worker in real time or keep track of the worker who carries the excess weight. This paper proposes a prototype system to track the weight of heavy objects carried by construction workers by developing smart safety shoes with FSR (Force Sensitive Resistor) sensors. The system consists of smart safety shoes with sensors attached, a mobile device for collecting initial sensing data, and a web-based server computer for storing, preprocessing and analyzing such data. The effectiveness and accuracy of the weight tracking system was verified through the experiments where a weight was lifted by each experimenter from +0 kg to +20 kg in 5 kg increments. The results of the experiment were analyzed by a newly developed machine learning based model, which adopts effective classification algorithms such as decision tree, random forest, gradient boosting algorithm (GBM), and light GBM. The average accuracy classifying the weight by each classification algorithm showed similar, but high accuracy in the following order: random forest (90.9%), light GBM (90.5%), decision tree (90.3%), and GBM (89%). Acupuncture is increasingly being used as an alternative treatment for patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). We aimed to evaluate the effects of acupuncture on gait-related brain function in patients with PD using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Twenty-four patients with PD were randomly assigned to intervention (acupuncture twice a week for 4 weeks) or control (non-treatment) groups. fNIRS experiments applying a block design were performed at baseline (0 weeks) and 4- and 8-week follow-up and cortical activation and connectivity were evaluated. After acupuncture treatment, oxy-hemoglobin (HbO) levels in the intervention group were significantly increased in the primary motor cortex (M1), supplementary motor area (SMA), and prefrontal cortex (PFC). Furthermore, following acupuncture treatment in the intervention group, the connectivities in the M1 and PFC regions increased. The results show that acupuncture may be a useful complementary treatment for gait disturbances in patients with PD, and fNIRS can be applicable to evaluate neural plasticity directly. Geographical origin discrimination of white rice is an important endeavor in preventing illegal distribution of white rice and regulating and standardizing food safety and quality assurance. The aim of this study was to develop a method for geographical origin discrimination between South Korean and Chinese rice using a hyperspectral fluorescence imaging technique and multivariate analysis. Hyperspectral fluorescence images of South Korean and Chinese rice samples were obtained in the wavelength range of 420 nm to 780 nm with intervals of 4.8 nm using 365 nm wavelength ultraviolet-A excitation light. Partial least squares discriminant analysis models were developed and applied to the acquired image to determine the geographical origins of the rice samples. In addition, various pre-processing techniques were applied to improve the discrimination accuracy. Accordingly, the pixel size of the hyperspectral image was determined. The results revealed that the optimum pixel size of the hyperspectral image that was above 7 mm × 7 mm showed a high discrimination accuracy. Moreover, the geographical origin discrimination model that applied the first-order derivative achieved a high discrimination accuracy of 98.89%. In this paper, analysis and optimization of surrounding channel nanowire (SCNW) tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) has been discussed with the help of technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation. The SCNW TFET features an ultra-thin tunnel layer at source sidewall and shows a high on-current (ION). In spite of the high electrical performance, the SCNW TFET suffers from hump effect which deteriorates subthreshold swing (S). In order to solve the issue, an origin of hump effect is analyzed firstly. Based on the simulation, the transfer curve in SCNW TFET is decoupled into vertical- and lateral-BTBTs. In addition, the lateral-BTBT causes the hump effect due to low turn-on voltage (VON) and low ION. Therefore, the device design parameter is optimized to suppress the hump effect by adjusting thickness of the ultra-thin tunnel layer. Finally, we compared the electrical properties of the planar, nanowire and SCNW TFET. As a result, the optimized SCNW TFET shows better electrical performance compared with other TFETs. Stair falls on construction sites are leading causes of fatal injuries, and the dangers for workers are greater because they usually carry heavy loads. Nevertheless, there are very few studies related to stair falls among construction workers. The purpose of this study was to detect near fall incidence during stair descent and analyze the changes in weight bearing and center of pressure. A total of 10 healthy males participated in this study. Three experimental conditions were set up to analyze stair falls: natural descent (E1), weighted descent (E2), and near fall-simulated descent (E3). While walking down the stairs, subjects wore a three-axis accelerometer sensor attached to a Smart Helmet and a pair of textile pressure sensors (insole) placed inside Smart Shoes. The collected data were analyzed for: (1) whole body balance, (2) plantar pressure distribution, (3) head tilt pattern, and (4) conformity between the helmet and insole sensors. The results showed that our proposed smart helmet and smart shoes have relatively good performance in terms of classifying the weight-shifting patterns in the head and the feet during stair descent. This paper presents the Zerotrope, an improved version of the classic phenakistiscope and zoetrope devices. This device is used to create a new 360-degree dynamic 3D display by the inclusion of a single ultra-realistic full-color hologram. The Zerotrope is built with a zero-degree transplane hologram mounted on a disk rotating at a constant speed. When a stroboscopic lamp synchronized with the rotation illuminates this hologram, the recorded characters, arranged radially around the center of the disk, are animated as in a stop-motion movie. In the Korean construction industry, legal and institutional safety management improvements are continually being pursued. However, there was a 4.5% increase in the number of workers' deaths at construction sites in 2017 compared to the previous year. Failure to wear safety helmets seems to be one of the major causes of the increase in accidents, and so it is necessary to develop technology to monitor whether or not safety helmets are being used. However, the approaches employed in existing technical studies on this issue have mainly involved the use of chinstrap sensors and have been limited to the problem of whether or not safety helmets are being worn. Meanwhile, improper wearing, such as when the chinstrap and harness fixing of the safety helmet are not properly tightened, has not been monitored. To remedy this shortcoming, a sensing safety helmet with a three-axis accelerometer sensor attached was developed in this study. Experiments were performed in which the sensing data were classified whether the safety helmet was being worn properly, not worn, or worn improperly during construction workers' activities. Cardiac adipose tissue is a well-known risk factor for the recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) after radiofrequency catheter ablation, but its correlation with maze surgery remains unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between the recurrence of AF and the adipose component of the left atrium (LA) in patients who underwent a modified Cox maze (CM) III procedure. We reviewed the pathology data of resected LA tissues from 115 patients, including the adipose tissue from CM-III procedures. The mean follow-up duration was 30.05 ± 23.96 months. The mean adipose tissue component in the AF recurrence group was 16.17% ± 14.32%, while in the non-recurrence group, it was 9.48% ± 10.79% (p = 0.021), and the cut-off value for the adipose component for AF recurrence was 10% (p = 0.010). The rates of freedom from AF recurrence at 1, 3, and 5 years were 84.8%, 68.8%, and 38.6%, respectively, in the high-adipose group (≥10%), and 96.3%, 89.7%, and 80.3%, respectively, in the low-adipose group (<10%; p = 0.002). A high adipose component (≥10%) in the LA is a significant risk factor for AF recurrence after CM-III procedures. The second most common progressive neurodegenerative disorder, Parkinson's disease (PD), is characterized by a broad spectrum of symptoms that are associated with its progression. Several studies have attempted to classify PD according to its clinical manifestations and establish objective biomarkers for early diagnosis and for predicting the prognosis of the disease. Recent comprehensive research on the classification of PD using clinical phenotypes has included factors such as dominance, severity, and prognosis of motor and non-motor symptoms and biomarkers. Additionally, neuroimaging studies have attempted to reveal the pathological substrate for motor symptoms. Genetic and transcriptomic studies have contributed to our understanding of the underlying molecular pathogenic mechanisms and provided a basis for classifying PD. Moreover, an understanding of the heterogeneity of clinical manifestations in PD is required for a personalized medicine approach. Herein, we discuss the possible subtypes of PD based on clinical features, neuroimaging, and biomarkers for developing personalized medicine for PD. In addition, we conduct a preliminary clustering using gait features for subtyping PD. We believe that subtyping may facilitate the development of therapeutic strategies for PD. Simple Summary: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is a well-established technique used to treat stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Proton beam therapy (PBT) offers dosimetric advantages over photon SABR techniques by reducing doses to normal organs. Hence, it is believed that PBT is helpful for patients with tumors located centrally in stage I NSCLC. However, the benefits of PBT for other locations, such as peripherally located tumors, have not been well-described. We investigated dosimetric benefits for PBT over modern photon radiation techniques for stage I NSCLC according to tumor locations. A total of 42 patients' (including tumors that were central (11), peripheral (nine), and close to the chest wall (22)) PBT plans were compared with those of modern photon radiation techniques. In all locations, PBT significantly reduced radiation exposure to the lung and heart. To reduce potential lung and heart toxicities, PBT is ideal, even in the peripherally located stage I NSCLC. Herein, we investigated the dosimetric benefits for proton beam therapy (PBT) over modern photon radiation techniques according to tumor location (central, peripheral, and close to the chest wall) for stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. A total of 42 patients with stage I NSCLC were treated with PBT with a total dose of 50–70 Gy in four or 10 fractions considering the risk of treatment-related toxicities. Simulation plans for three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), static-field intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) were retrospectively generated using the same treatment volumes as implemented in the PBT plans for these patients. Dosimetric improvements were observed with PBT as compared with all the photon-based radiation techniques with regards to the mean lung dose, lung V5 and V10, mean heart dose, and heart V5 and V10 in all locations. Moreover, lower radiation exposure to the chest wall was observed within PBT for peripherally located and close to the chest wall tumors. All radiotherapy modalities achieved clinically satisfactory treatment plans in the current study. Notably, the usage of PBT resulted in significant dosimetric improvements in the lung and heart over photon-based techniques at all tumor locations, including the periphery, for stage I NSCLC. Selection of proper antibiotics for blood culture-negative infective endocarditis (BCNIE) is difficult due to limited data on antibiotic regimens for BCNIE in existing literature. The aim of this study was to compare ampicillin-sulbactam, other β-lactams antibiotics, and vancomycin among patients with BCNIE to determine the proper antibiotic regimens. This retrospective study included adult patients with BCNIE admitted to Severance Hospital from November 2005 to August 2017. Patients were classified into three groups as, treated with ampicillin-sulbactam, other β-lactams, and vancomycin. The primary outcome was 1-year all-cause mortality. A total of 74 cases with BCNIE were enrolled in this study. There were no statistically significant differences in clinical characteristics between the three groups. One-year mortality did not significantly differ between the study groups either. Further, in-hospital mortality, 28-day mortality and overall mortality showed no difference. However, Cox-regression analysis showed nosocomial infective endocarditis as an independent risk factor and a protective effect of surgery on 1-year mortality. This study showed no clear difference in the outcomes of BCNIE as per the antibiotic therapy but suggested the beneficial effect of surgical treatment. With increasing global concern of antimicrobial resistance, it might be reasonable to select ampicillin-sulbactam-based antibiotic therapy while actively considering surgical treatment in BCNIE. Dementia is one of the most disabling nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the risk factors contributing to its development remain unclear. To investigate genetic variants associated with dementia in PD, we performed microarray genotyping based on a customized platform utilizing variants identified in previous genetic studies. Microarray genotyping was performed in 313 PD patients with dementia, 321 PD patients without dementia, and 635 healthy controls. The primary analysis was performed using a multiple logistic regression model adjusted for age and sex. SNCA single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs11931074 was determined to be most significantly associated with PD (odds ratio = 0.66, 95% confidence interval = 0.56–0.78, p = 7.75 × 10−7). In the analysis performed for patients with PD only, MUL1 SNP rs3738128 (odds ratio = 2.52, 95% confidence interval = 1.68–3.79, p = 8.75 × 10−6) was found to be most significantly associated with dementia in PD. SNPs in ZHX2 and ERP29 were also associated with dementia in PD. This microarray genomic study identified new loci of MUL1 associated with dementia in PD, suggesting an essential role of mitochondrial dysfunction in the development of dementia in patients with PD. Human pluripotent stem cell-derived neural progenitor cells (NPCs) have the potential to recover from nerve injury. We previously reported that human placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PSCs) have neuroprotective effects. To evaluate the potential benefit of NPCs, we compared them to PSCs using R28 cells under hypoxic conditions and a rat model of optic nerve injury. NPCs and PSCs (2 × 106 cells) were injected into the subtenon space. After 1, 2, and 4 weeks, we examined changes in target proteins in the retina and optic nerve. NPCs significantly induced vascular endothelial growth factor (Vegf) compared to age-matched shams and PSC groups at 2 weeks; they also induced neurofilaments in the retina compared to the sham group at 4 weeks. In addition, the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (Bdnf) was high in the retina in the NPC group at 2 weeks, while expression in the optic nerve was high in both the NPC and PSC groups. The low expression of ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba1) in the retina had recovered at 2 weeks after NPC injection and at 4 weeks after PSC injection. The expression of the inflammatory protein NLR family, pyrin domain containing 3 (Nlrp3) was significantly reduced at 1 week, and that of tumor necrosis factor-α (Tnf-α) in the optic nerves of the NPC group was lower at 2 weeks. Regarding retinal ganglion cells, the expressions of Brn3a and Tuj1 in the retina were enhanced in the NPC group compared to sham controls at 4 weeks. NPC injections increased Gap43 expression from 2 weeks and reduced Iba1 expression in the optic nerves during the recovery period. In addition, R28 cells exposed to hypoxic conditions showed increased cell survival when cocultured with NPCs compared to PSCs. Both Wnt/β-catenin signaling and increased Nf-ĸb could contribute to the rescue of damaged retinal ganglion cells via upregulation of neuroprotective factors, microglial engagement, and anti-inflammatory regulation by NPCs. The main purpose of cold chain is to keep the temperature of products constant during transportation. The internal temperature of refrigerated truck body is mainly measured with a temperature sensor installed at the hottest point on the body. Hence, the measured temperature cannot represent the overall temperature values of transported products in the body. Moreover, the airflow pattern in the refrigerated body can vary depending on the arrangement of loaded logistics, resulting temperature differences between the transported products. In this study, the airflow and temperature change in the refrigerated body depending on the loading patterns of box were analyzed using experimental and numerical analysis methods. Ten different box loading patterns were applied to the body of 0.5 ton refrigerated truck. The temperatures inside boxes were measured depending on the loading patterns. CFD modeling with two different turbulence models (k-ε and SST k-ω) was developed using COMSOL Multiphysics for predicting the temperatures inside boxes loaded with different patterns, and the predicted data were compared to the experimental data. The k-ε turbulence model showed a higher temperature error than the SST k-ω model; however, the highest temperature point inside the boxes was almost accurately predicted. Freezing extends the shelf-life of food by slowing down the physical and biochemical reactions; however, ice crystal formation can result in irreversible damage to the cell's structure and texture. Supercooling technology has the potential to preserve the original freshness of food without freezing damage. In this study, fresh asparagus was preserved in a supercooled state and its quality changes such as color, weight loss, texture, chlorophyll and anthocyanin content, and enzymatic activities (superoxide dismutase and catalase) were evaluated. The asparagus samples were successfully supercooled at −3 °C with the combination treatment of pulsed electric field (PEF) and oscillating magnetic field (OMF), and the supercooled state was maintained for up to 14 days. Asparagus spears preserved in the supercooled state exhibited lower weight loss and higher levels of quality factors in comparison to the frozen and refrigerated control samples. Background: This study was designed to investigate the effect of cluster differentiation (CD)39 and CD73 inhibitors on the expresion of tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs), M1- versus M2-tumour phenotypes in mice with colon cancer. Methods: An in vitro study of co-culture with colon cancer cells and immune cells from the bone marrow (BM) of mice was performed. After the confirmation of the effect of polyoxotungstate (POM-1) as an inhibitor of CD39 on TAMs, the mice were randomly divided into a control group without POM-1 and a study group with POM-1, respectively, after subcutaneous injection of CT26 cells. On day 14 after the injection, the mice were sacrificed, and TAMs were evaluated using fluorescence-activated cell sorting. Results: In the in vitro study, the co-culture with POM-1 significantly increased the apoptosis of CT26 cells. The cell population from the co-culture with POM-1 showed significant increases in the expression of CD11b+ for myeloid cells, lymphocyte antigen 6 complex, locus C (Ly6C+) for monocytes, M1-tumour phenotypes from TAMs, and F4/80+ for macrophages. In the in vivo study, tumour growth in the study group with POM-1 was significantly limited, compared with the control group without POM-1. The expressions of Ly6C+ and major histocompatibility complex class II+ for M1-tumour phenotypes from TAMs on F4/80+ from the tumour tissue in the study group had significantly higher values compared with the control group. Conclusion: The inhibition of CD39 with POM-1 prevented the growth of colon cancer in mice, and it was associated with the increased expression of M1-tumour phenotypes from TAMs in the cancer tissue. The different pathways between the position of a near-infrared camera and the user's eye limit the use of existing near-infrared fluorescence imaging systems for tumor margin assessments. By utilizing an optical system that precisely matches the near-infrared fluorescence image and the optical path of visible light, we developed an augmented reality (AR)-based fluorescence imaging system that provides users with a fluorescence image that matches the real-field, without requiring any additional algorithms. Commercial smart glasses, dichroic beam splitters, mirrors, and custom near-infrared cameras were employed to develop the proposed system, and each mount was designed and utilized. After its performance was assessed in the laboratory, preclinical experiments involving tumor detection and lung lobectomy in mice and rabbits by using indocyanine green (ICG) were conducted. The results showed that the proposed system provided a stable image of fluorescence that matched the actual site. In addition, preclinical experiments confirmed that the proposed system could be used to detect tumors using ICG and evaluate lung lobectomies. The AR-based intraoperative smart goggle system could detect fluorescence images for tumor margin assessments in animal models, without disrupting the surgical workflow in an operating room. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nanovesicles of endocytic origin released by cells and found in human bodily fluids. EVs contain both mRNA and microRNA (miRNA), which can be shuttled between cells, indicating their role in cell communication. This study investigated whether nasal secretions contain EVs and whether these EVs contain RNA. EVs were isolated from nasal lavage fluid (NLF) using sequential centrifugation. EVs were characterized and EV sizes were identified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, EV miRNA expression was different in the chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyp (CRSsNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyp (CRSwNP) groups. The Kyoto encyclopedia gene and genome database (KEGG) database was used to identify pathways associated with changed miRNAs in each analysis group. Twelve miRNAs were differentially expressed in NLF-EVs of CRS patients versus HCs. In addition, eight miRNAs were differentially expressed in NLF-EVs of CRSwNP versus CRSsNP patients. The mucin-type O-glycan biosynthesis was a high-ranked predicted pathway in CRS patients versus healthy controls (HCs), and the Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway was a high-ranked predicted pathway in CRSwNP versus CRSsNP patients. We demonstrated the presence of and differences in NLF-EV miRNAs between CRS patients and HCs. Blended hydrogels play an important role in enhancing the properties (e.g., mechanical properties and conductivity) of hydrogels. In this study, we generated a conductive blended hydrogel, which was achieved by mixing gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) with collagen, and silver nanowire (AgNW). The ratio of GelMA, collagen and AgNW was optimized and was subsequently gelated by ultraviolet light (UV) and heat. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of the conductive blended hydrogels showed that collagen and AgNW were present in the GelMA hydrogel. Additionally, rheological analysis indicated that the mechanical properties of the conductive GelMA–collagen–AgNW blended hydrogels improved. Biocompatibility analysis confirmed that the human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) encapsulated within the three-dimensional (3D), conductive blended hydrogels were highly viable. Furthermore, we confirmed that the molecule in the conductive blended hydrogel was released by electrical stimuli-mediated structural deformation. Therefore, this conductive GelMA–collagen–AgNW blended hydrogel could be potentially used as a smart actuator for drug delivery applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Trifecta valve has externally mounted leaflets; it differs from classic internally mounted valves (e.g., Carpentier-Edwards [C-E]). We evaluated post-implantation hemodynamics and clinical outcomes of these bioprostheses in small aortic annuli. From January 2015 to April 2019, 490 patients who underwent aortic valve replacement (AVR) were reviewed retrospectively. Altogether, 183 patients received 19 or 21 mm diameter C-E (n = 121) or Trifecta (n = 62) prostheses. To minimize confounding variables, we performed propensity-score matching analysis. The mean transvalvular pressure gradient (TVPG) was significantly lower in the Trifecta than in the C-E group at discharge (12.9 ± 4.8 vs. 15.0 ± 5.3 mmHg, p = 0.044). TVPG change over time was not significantly different between groups (p = 0.357). Left ventricular mass index decreased postoperatively (reduction: C-E, 28.1%; Trifecta, 30.1%, p = 0.879). No late mortality, severe patient–prosthesis mismatch, moderate-to-severe paravalvular leakage, structural valve degeneration, or valve thromboses were observed. Freedom from valve-related events at 3 years were similar for C-E (97.9% ± 2.1%) and Trifecta (97.7% ± 2.2%) patients (log-rank p = 0.993). Bioprosthesis design for small annuli significantly affected TVPG immediately after AVR. However, hemodynamics over time and clinical outcomes did not differ between the two designs.
