Flurbiprofen (FBP), a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), is commonly used to treat the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, but in prolonged use it causes gastric irritation and ulcer. To avoid these adverse events of NSAIDs, the simultaneous administration of H 2 receptor antagonists such as ranitidine hydrochloride (RHCl) is obligatory. Here, we developed composite oral fast-disintegrating films (ODFs) containing FBP along with RHCl to provide a gastroprotective effect as well as to enhance the solubility and bioavailability of FBP. The ternary solid dispersion (TSD) of FBP was fabricated with Syloid ® 244FP and poloxamer ® 188 using the solvent evaporation technique. The synthesized FBP-TSD (coded as TSD) was loaded alone (S1) and in combination with plain RHCl (S2) in the composite ODFs based on hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose E5 (HPMC E5). The synthesized composite ODFs were evaluated by in vitro (thickness, folding endurance, tensile strength, disintegration, SEM, FTIR, XRD and release study) and in vivo (analgesic, anti-inflammatory activity, pro-inflammatory cytokines and gastroprotective assay) studies. The in vitro characterization revealed that TSD preserved its integrity and was effectively loaded in S1 and S2 with optimal compatibility. The films were durable and flexible with a disintegration time ≈15 s. The release profile at pH 6.8 showed that the solid dispersion of FBP improved the drug solubility and release when compared with pure FBP. After in vitro studies, it was observed that the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of S2 was higher than that of pure FBP and other synthesized formulations (TSD and S1). Similarly, the level of cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6) was also markedly reduced by S2. Furthermore, a gastroprotective assay confirmed that S2 has a higher safety profile in comparison to pure FBP and other synthesized formulations (TSD and S1). Thus, composite ODF (S2) can effectively enhance the FBP solubility and its therapeutic efficacy, along with its gastroprotective effect.

Rapid industrialization and urbanization are the two significant issues causing environmental pollution. The polluted water from various industries contains refractory organic materials such as dyes. Heterogeneous photocatalysis using semiconductor metal oxides is an effective remediation technique for wastewater treatment. In this research, we used a co-precipitation-assisted hydrothermal method to synthesize a novel I-FeWO 4 /GO sunlight-active nanocomposite. Introducing dopant reductive iodine species improved the catalytic activity of FeWO 4 /GO. I - ions improved the catalytic performance of H 2 O 2 by doping into FeWO 4 /GO composite. Due to I - doping and the introduction of graphene as a support medium, enhanced charge separation and transfer were observed, which is crucial for efficient heterogeneous surface reactions. Various techniques, like FTIR, SEM-EDX, XRD, and UV-Vis spectroscopy, were used to characterize composites. The Tauc plot method was used to calculate pristine and iodine-doped FeWO 4 /GO bandgap. Iodine doping reduced the bandgap from 2.8 eV to 2.6 eV. The degradation of methylene blue (MB) was evaluated by optimizing various parameters like catalyst concentration, oxidant dose, pH, and time. The optimum conditions for photocatalysts where maximum degradation occurred were pH = 7 for both FeWO 4 /GO and I-FeWO 4 /GO; oxidant dose = 9 mM and 7 mM for FeWO 4 /GO and I-FeWO 4 /GO; and catalyst concentration = 30 mg and 35 mg/100 mL for FeWO 4 /GO and I-FeWO 4 /GO; the optimum time was 120 min. Under these optimum conditions, FeWO 4 /GO and I-FeWO 4 /GO showed 92.0% and 97.0% degradation of MB dye.

This paper presents a comprehensive study on the classification of brain tumor images using five pre-trained vision transformer (ViT) models, namely R50-ViT-l16, ViT-l16, ViT-l32, ViT-b16, and ViT-b32, employing a fine-tuning approach. The objective of this study is to advance the state-of-the-art in brain tumor classification by harnessing the power of these advanced models. The dataset utilized for experimentation consists of a total of 4855 images in the training set and 857 images in the testing set, encompassing four distinct tumor classes. The performance evaluation of each model is conducted through an extensive analysis encompassing precision, recall, F1-score, accuracy, and confusion matrix metrics. Among the models assessed, ViT-b32 demonstrates exceptional performance, achieving a high accuracy of 98.24% in accurately classifying brain tumor images. Notably, the obtained results outperform existing methodologies, showcasing the efficacy of the proposed approach. The contributions of this research extend beyond conventional methods, as it not only employs cutting-edge ViT models but also surpasses the performance of existing approaches for brain tumor image classification. This study not only demonstrates the potential of ViT models in medical image analysis but also provides a benchmark for future research in the field of brain tumor classification.

Depression is the major mental illness which causes along with loss of interest in daily life, a feeling of hopelessness, appetite or weight changes, anger and irritability. Due to the hepatic first-pass metabolism, the absolute bioavailability of fluvoxamine (FVM) after oral administration is about 50%. By avoiding the pre-systemic metabolism, nasal delivery would boost bioavailability of FVM. Additionally, the absorption is anticipated to occur more quickly than it would via the oral route because of the existence of microvilli and high vasculature. A nonionic surfactant, cholesterol and an arachidonic acid-carboxymethyl chitosan (AA-CMCS) conjugate were used to develop FVM-loaded novasomes. To investigate the effects of surfactant concentration, AA-CMCS conjugate concentration and stirring speed on the novasomes' characteristics, a Box-Behnken design was used. The dependent variables chosen were zeta potential, polydispersity index and particle size. The AA-CMCS conjugate was confirmed by 1 H-NMR and FTIR. Using Design Expert software (version 7; Stat-Ease Inc., Minneapolis, MN, USA), novasomes were further optimized. The chosen optimal formulation (NAC8) was made up of AA-CMCS conjugate, Span 60 and cholesterol. Particle size, zeta potential and PDI values for NAC8 formulation were 101 nm, -35 mV and 0.263, respectively. The NAC8 formulation's DSC and TGA analysis demonstrated that the medication had been uniformly and amorphously distributed throughout the novasomes. The NAC8 formulation showed 99% and 90% FVM release and permeation, respectively, and the novasome adherence time was 24 h. An improved antidepressant effect along with five-fold increase in bioavailability of FVM was observed after trans-nasal administration of NAC8 formulation compared to the reference commercially available Flumin ® tablets. FVM-loaded novasomes administered via the nasal route may therefore constitute an advancement in the management of depression.

Here, we evaluate the feasibility of co-loading plain ranitidine hydrochloride (RHCl) and microencapsulated flurbiprofen (FBP) in a Lycoat ® RS780-based oral fast disintegrating film (ODF). These films were developed by the solvent casting method to minimize the adverse effects of FBP and reduce the dosage form burden on patients. Optimized FBP microparticles (M3) with an average size of 21.2 ± 9.2 µm were loaded alone (F1) and in combination with plain RHCl (F2) in the composite ODF. All films were evaluated physicomechanically and physicochemically. These films were resilient, flexible, and disintegrated within thirty seconds. SEM images showed intact FBP microparticles in both formulations and, moreover, did not observe an interaction between the drug and film components. Microencapsulated FBP was released in a controlled manner over 48 h from the proposed formulations, while RHCl was released within 5 min from F2. After in vitro evaluation, formulations were also tested for in vivo anti-inflammatory activity, cytokine (TNF-α and IL-6) levels, and gastroprotective effects in rats. The anti-inflammatory activity and gastroprotective effect of F2 were markedly higher than pure FBP and other synthesized formulations (M3 and F1). The average score of gastric lesions was in the order of pure FBP (15.5 ± 1.32) > M3 (8 ± 2) > F1 (1 ± 0.5) > F2 (0.5 ± 0) > control (0). Additionally, F2 showed a sustained anti-inflammatory effect up to 10 h in the rat paw edema model. Furthermore, F2 also markedly reduced TNF-α and IL-6 levels. Conclusively, the Lycoat ® RS780-based composite film could be a promising carrier for the co-loading of microencapsulated FBP with RHCl. In the future, an optimized formulation (F2) could be capable of countering the issues related to multiple drug administration in geriatric patients and evading the gastric irritation associated with FBP.

The odontoblastic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) associated with caries injury happens in an inflammatory context. We recently demonstrated that there is a link between inflammation and dental tissue regeneration, identified via enhanced DPSC-mediated dentinogenesis in vitro. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a nerve growth factor-related gene family molecule which functions through tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB). While the roles of BDNF in neural tissue repair and other regeneration processes are well identified, its role in dentinogenesis has not been explored. Furthermore, the role of BDNF receptor-TrkB in inflammation-induced dentinogenesis remains unknown. The role of BDNF/TrkB was examined during a 17-day odontogenic differentiation of DPSCs. Human DPSCs were subjected to odontogenic differentiation in dentinogenic media treated with inflammation inducers (LTA or TNFα), BDNF, and a TrkB agonist (LM22A-4) and/or antagonist (CTX-B). Our data show that BDNF and TrkB receptors affect the early and late stages of the odontogenic differentiation of DPSCs. Immunofluorescent data confirmed the expression of BDNF and TrkB in DPSCs. Our ELISA and qPCR data demonstrate that TrkB agonist treatment increased the expression of dentin matrix protein-1 (DMP-1) during early DPSC odontoblastic differentiation. Coherently, the expression levels of runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX-2) and osteocalcin (OCN) were increased. TNFα, which is responsible for a diverse range of inflammation signaling, increased the levels of expression of dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP) and DMP1. Furthermore, BDNF significantly potentiated its effect. The application of CTX-B reversed this effect, suggesting TrkB`s critical role in TNFα-mediated dentinogenesis. Our studies provide novel findings on the role of BDNF-TrkB in the inflammation-induced odontoblastic differentiation of DPSCs. This finding will address a novel regulatory pathway and a therapeutic approach in dentin tissue engineering using DPSCs.

Hypotrichosis is an uncommon type of alopecia (hair loss) characterized by coarse scalp hair caused by the reduced or fully terminated activity of the Lipase-H (LIPH) enzyme. LIPH gene mutations contribute to the development of irregular or non-functional proteins. Because several cellular processes, including cell maturation and proliferation, are inhibited when this enzyme is inactive, the hair follicles become structurally unreliable, undeveloped, and immature. This results in brittle hair, as well as altered hair shaft development and structure. Because of these nsSNPs, the protein's structure and/or function may be altered. Given the difficulty in discovering functional SNPs in genes associated with disease, it is possible to assess potential functional SNPs before conducting broader population investigations. As a result, in our in silico analysis, we separated potentially hazardous nsSNPs of the LIPH gene from benign representatives using a variety of sequencing and architecture-based bioinformatics approaches. Using seven prediction algorithms, 9 out of a total of 215 nsSNPs were shown to be the most likely to cause harm. In order to distinguish between potentially harmful and benign nsSNPs of the LIPH gene, in our in silico investigation, we employed a range of sequence- and architecture-based bioinformatics techniques. Three nsSNPs (W108R, C246S, and H248N) were chosen as potentially harmful. The present findings will likely be helpful in future large population-based studies, as well as in drug discovery, particularly in the creation of personalized medicine, since this study provides an initial thorough investigation of the functional nsSNPs of LIPH.

The Corey-Seebach reagent plays an important role in organic synthesis because of its broad synthetic applications. The Corey-Seebach reagent is formed by the reaction of an aldehyde or a ketone with 1,3-propane-dithiol under acidic conditions, followed by deprotonation with n -butyllithium. A large variety of natural products (alkaloids, terpenoids, and polyketides) can be accessed successfully by utilizing this reagent. This review article focuses on the recent contributions (post-2006) of the Corey-Seebach reagent towards the total synthesis of natural products such as alkaloids (lycoplanine A, diterpenoid alkaloids, etc.), terpenoids (bisnorditerpene, totarol, etc.), polyketide (ambruticin J, biakamides, etc.), and heterocycles such as rodocaine and substituted pyridines, as well and their applications towards important organic synthesis., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Optical switching is an essential part of photonic integrated circuits and the focus of research at the moment. In this research, an optical switch design working on the phenomenon of guided-mode resonances in a 3D photonic-crystal-based structure is reported. The optical-switching mechanism is studied in a dielectric slab-waveguide-based structure operating in the near-infrared range in a telecom window of 1.55 µm. The mechanism is investigated via the interference of two signals, i.e., the data signal and the control signal. The data signal is coupled into the optical structure and filtered utilizing guided-mode resonance, whereas the control signal is index-guided in the optical structure. The amplification or de-amplification of the data signal is controlled by tuning the spectral properties of the optical sources and structural parameters of the device. The parameters are optimized first using a single-cell model with periodic boundary conditions and later in a finite 3D-FDTD model of the device. The numerical design is computed in an open-source Finite Difference Time Domain simulation platform. Optical amplification in the range of 13.75% is achieved in the data signal with a decrease in the linewidth up to 0.0079 µm, achieving a quality factor of 114.58. The proposed device presents great potential in the field of photonic integrated circuits, biomedical technology, and programmable photonics.

In this paper a perfect absorber with a photonic crystal cavity (PhC-cavity) is numerically investigated for carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) gas sensing application. Metallic structures in the form of silver are introduced for harnessing plasmonic effects to achieve perfect absorption. The sensor comprises a PhC-cavity, silver (Ag) stripes, and a host functional material-Polyhexamethylene biguanide polymer-deposited on the surface of the sensor. The PhC-cavity is implemented within the middle of the cell, helping to penetrate the EM waves into the sublayers of the structure. Therefore, corresponding to the concentration of the CO 2 gas, as it increases, the refractive index of the host material decreases, causing a blue shift in the resonant wavelength and vice versa of the device. The sensor is used for the detection of 0-524 parts per million (ppm) concentration of the CO 2 gas, with a maximum sensitivity of 17.32 pm (pico meter)/ppm achieved for a concentration of 366 ppm with a figure of merit (FOM) of 2.9 RIU -1 . The four-layer device presents a straightforward and compact design that can be adopted in various sensing applications by using suitable host functional materials.

Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation is an important reaction in the enantioselective synthesis of chiral vicinal diols that involves the treatment of alkene with osmium tetroxide along with optically active quinine ligand. Sharpless introduced this methodology after considering the importance of enantioselectivity in the total synthesis of medicinally important compounds. Vicinal diols, produced as a result of this reaction, act as intermediates in the synthesis of different naturally occurring compounds. Hence, Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation plays an important role in synthetic organic chemistry due to its undeniable contribution to the synthesis of biologically active organic compounds. This review emphasizes the significance of Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation in the total synthesis of various natural products, published since 2020.

Microbial exopolysaccharides (EPSs), having great structural diversity, have gained tremendous interest for their prebiotic effects. In the present study, mice models were used to investigate if microbial dextran and inulin-type EPSs could also play role in the modulation of microbiomics and metabolomics by improving certain biochemical parameters, such as blood cholesterol and glucose levels and weight gain. Feeding the mice for 21 days on EPS-supplemented feed resulted in only 7.6 ± 0.8% weight gain in the inulin-fed mice group, while the dextran-fed group also showed a low weight gain trend as compared to the control group. Blood glucose levels of the dextran- and inulin-fed groups did not change significantly in comparison with the control where it increased by 22 ± 5%. Moreover, the dextran and inulin exerted pronounced hypocholesterolemic effects by reducing the serum cholesterol levels by 23% and 13%, respectively. The control group was found to be mainly populated with Enterococcus faecalis , Staphylococcus gallinarum, Mammaliicoccus lentus and Klebsiella aerogenes. The colonization of E. faecalis was inhibited by 59-65% while the intestinal release of Escherichia fergusonii was increased by 85-95% in the EPS-supplemented groups, respectively, along with the complete inhibition of growth of other enteropathogens. Additionally, higher populations of lactic acid bacteria were detected in the intestine of EPS-fed mice as compared to controls.

Nowadays, synthetic polymers are used in medical applications due to their special biodegradable, biocompatible, hydrophilic, and non-toxic properties. The materials, which can be used for wound dressing fabrication with controlled drug release profile, are the need of the time. The main aim of this study was to develop and characterize polyvinyl alcohol/polycaprolactone (PVA/PCL) fibres containing a model drug. A dope solution comprising PVA/PCL with the drug was extruded into a coagulation bath and became solidified. The developed PVA/PCL fibres were then rinsed and dried. These fibres were tested for Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, linear density, topographic analysis, tensile properties, liquid absorption, swelling behaviour, degradation, antimicrobial activity, and drug release profile for improved and better healing of the wound. From the results, it was concluded that PVA/PCL fibres containing a model drug can be produced by using the wet spinning technique and have respectable tensile properties; adequate liquid absorption, swelling %, and degradation %; and good antimicrobial activity with the controlled drug release profile of the model drug for wound dressing applications.

The health and wellness of people through life expectancy, mortality rate improvement, and sustaining the productivity of labor contributes a lot to national income. Infrastructure development consumes energy and releases carbon dioxide at different stages of the construction process. The current study explores the nexus between CO 2 emission, energy consumption, mortality, life expectancy, and GDP in the top five carbon-emitting countries by using time series data from 1975 to 2015. The study used a cointegration technique to find the long- and short-run relationships between study variables. The study also used a structural break test to identify the break time. The results of the correlation matrix show strong positive correlation between CO 2 emissions and energy consumption. It also reflects a weak correlation with mortality and life expectancy in Japan and Russia. The results of the ADF test indicated that the series are stationary at first difference and provided evidence to use Johansen cointegration test for long- and short-run relationships between independent series. Vector error correction term and ECT method are used to find long-run relationships between cointegrated series and adjustment parameters. For the structural breaks of health indicators and energy consumption study, we used the Gregory Hanson structural break. Mortality rate and life expectancy rate of China, U.S., Russia, India, and Japan show relevant policy changes with economic policies of each country.

The current study was designed to formulate ternary solid dispersions (TSDs) of dexibuprofen (Dex) by solvent evaporation to augment the solubility and dissolution profile, in turn providing gastric protection and effective anti-inflammatory activity. Initially, nine formulations (S1 to S9) of binary solid dispersions (BSDs) were developed. Formulation S1 comprising a 1:1 weight ratio of Dex and Syloid 244FP ® was chosen as the optimum BSD formulation due to its better solubility profile. Afterward, 20 TSD formulations were developed using the optimum BSD. The formulation containing Syloid 244FP ® with 40% Gelucire 48/16 ® (S18) and Poloxamer 188 ® (S23) successfully enhanced the solubility by 28.23 and 38.02 times, respectively, in pH 6.8, while dissolution was increased by 1.99- and 2.01-fold during the first 5 min as compared to pure drug. The in vivo gastroprotective study in rats suggested that the average gastric lesion index was in the order of pure Dex (8.33 ± 2.02) > S1 (7 ± 1.32) > S18 (2.17 ± 1.61) > S23 (1.83 ± 1.04) > control (0). The in vivo anti-inflammatory study in rats revealed that the percentage inhibition of swelling was in the order of S23 (71.47 ± 2.16) > S18 (64.8 ± 3.79) > S1 (54.14 ± 6.78) > pure drug (18.43 ± 2.21) > control (1.18 ± 0.64) after 6 h. ELISA results further confirmed the anti-inflammatory potential of the developed formulation, where low levels of IL-6 and TNF alpha were reported for animals treated with S23. Therefore, S23 could be considered an effective formulation that not only enhanced the solubility and bioavailability but also reduced the gastric irritation of Dex.

Beijing has experienced rapid economic development since the reforms and opening up. However, the traditional development model based on excessive energy consumption has posed great challenges to the ecological environment. To curb environmental degradation and achieve sustainable social development, Beijing has proposed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. As an important indicator of energy consumption, it is necessary to clarify how energy intensity (EI) affects carbon emissions (CE) to achieve carbon neutrality in Beijing by 2050. This study first decomposes the drivers of CE in Beijing from 2010 to 2020 using the logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) method and comparatively analyses the impact of EI on CE. Then, the spatial Dubin model (SDM) is used to analyse the spatial spillover effect of EI on CE at the regional level. Finally, the macro moderating role of economic development in the effect of EI on CE is analysed. The results show that the effect of EI has been the main driver of CE reduction in Beijing. Among the industrial sectors, manufacturing and transportation have had the greatest success in reducing CE through EI reduction. At the regional level, there is a spatial spillover effect of EI on CE, and the effect of carbon reduction through the spillover effect of EI is greater than the direct effect of EI. Economic factors have an enhanced moderating effect on the process of EI affecting CE, and this moderating effect has threshold properties.

Lead-free ceramics are promising candidates for replacing lead-based piezoelectric materials such as lead-zirconate-titanate (PZT) if they can compete in dielectric and ferroelectric characteristics. In this work, for lead-free piezoelectric ceramic, 0.74(Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 )-0.26(SrTiO 3 ) (BNT-ST26) and niobium-substituted (Nb-BNT-ST26) ceramics were synthesized by solid-state reactions. The evolution of niobium substitution to the perovskite phase structure of BNT-ST26 ceramics was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and Raman spectra. Electromechanical properties of Nb-BNT-ST26 ceramics initially increased with the addition of niobium up to 0.5% and decreased with a further increase in Nb content. Temperature-dependent dielectric curves showed that the depolarization temperature (T d ) decreased below room temperature because of Nb substitution. The composition with 0.5% Nb yielded a maximum bipolar strain (S max ) of 0.265% and normalized strain of d 33 * ~ 576 pm/V under an electric field of 4.6 kV/mm at room temperature. At this critical concentration of 0.5% Nb, maximum saturation polarization of 26 μC/cm 2 was achieved. The dielectric constant with temperature peaks became more diffused and the depolarization temperature decreased with the increasing Nb content. The study concludes that Nb-doped BNT-ST26 is an excellent material for high-temperature, stable, frequency-dependent, lead-free piezoelectric devices.

Anomalous driving behavior detection is becoming more popular since it is vital in ensuring the safety of drivers and passengers in vehicles. Road accidents happen for various reasons, including health, mental stress, and fatigue. It is critical to monitor abnormal driving behaviors in real time to improve driving safety, raise driver awareness of their driving patterns, and minimize future road accidents. Many symptoms appear to show this condition in the driver, such as facial expressions or abnormal actions. The abnormal activity was among the most common causes of road accidents, accounting for nearly 20% of all accidents, according to international data on accident causes. To avoid serious consequences, abnormal driving behaviors must be identified and avoided. As it is difficult to monitor anyone continuously, automated detection of this condition is more effective and quicker. To increase drivers' recognition of their driving behaviors and prevent potential accidents, a precise monitoring approach that detects abnormal driving behaviors and identifies abnormal driving behaviors is required. The most common activities performed by the driver while driving is drinking, eating, smoking, and calling. These types of driver activities are considered in this work, along with normal driving. This study proposed deep learning-based detection models for recognizing abnormal driver actions. This system is trained and tested using a newly created dataset, including five classes. The main classes include Driver-smoking, Driver-eating, Driver-drinking, Driver-calling, and Driver-normal. For the analysis of results, pre-trained and fine-tuned CNN models are considered. The proposed CNN-based model and pre-trained models ResNet101, VGG-16, VGG-19, and Inception-v3 are used. The results are compared by using the performance measures. The results are obtained 89%, 93%, 93%, 94% for pre-trained models and 95% by using the proposed CNN-based model. Our analysis and results revealed that our proposed CNN base model performed well and could effectively classify the driver's abnormal behavior.

Cancer is a serious threat to human beings and is the second-largest cause of death all over the globe. Chemotherapy is one of the most common treatments for cancer; however, drug resistance and severe adverse effects are major problems associated with anticancer therapy. New compounds with multi-target inhibitory properties are targeted to surmount these challenges. Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is overexpressed in cancers of the pancreas, breast, colorectal, stomach, and lung carcinoma. Therefore, COX-2 is considered a significant target for the synthesis of new anticancer agents. This review discusses the biological activity of recently prepared dual anticancer and COX-2 inhibitory agents. The most important intermolecular interactions with the COX-2 enzyme have also been presented. Analysis of these agents in the active area of the COX-2 enzyme could guide the introduction of new lead compounds with extreme selectivity and minor side effects.

In this paper, we fabricated semi-interpenetrating polymeric network (semi-IPN) of hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin- grafted -poly(acrylic acid)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (HP-β-CD-g-poly(AA)/PVP) by the free radical polymerization technique, intended for colon specific release of dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DSP). Different proportions of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), acrylic acid (AA), and hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) were reacted along with ammonium persulphate (APS) as initiator and methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA) as crosslinker to develop a hydrogel system with optimum swelling at distal intestinal pH. Initially, all formulations were screened for swelling behavior and AP-8 was chosen as optimum formulation. This formulation was capable of releasing a small amount of drug at acidic pH (1.2), while a maximum amount of drug was released at colonic pH (7.4) by the non-Fickian diffusion mechanism. Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed successful grafting of components and development of semi-IPN structure without any interaction with DSP. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed the thermal stability of developed semi-IPN. X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed reduction in crystallinity of DSP upon loading in the hydrogel. The scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images revealed a rough and porous hydrogel surface. The toxicological evaluation of semi-IPN hydrogels confirmed their bio-safety and hemocompatibility. Therefore, the prepared hydrogels were pH sensitive, biocompatible, showed good swelling, mechanical properties, and were efficient in releasing the drug in the colonic environment. Therefore, AP-8 can be deemed as a potential carrier for targeted delivery of DSP to treat inflammatory bowel diseases.

The purpose of this study is to improve the solubility and dissolution of a poorly soluble drug, Irbesartan, using solid dispersion techniques. For that purpose, different polymers such as Soluplus ® , Kollidon ® VA 64, Kolliphor ® P 407, and Polyinylpyrrolidone (PVP-K30) were used as carriers at different concentrations to prepare solid dispersion formulations through the solvent evaporation method. In order to prepare binary dispersion formulations, Soluplus ® and Kollidon ® VA 64 were used at drug: polymer ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4 ( w/w ). Saturation solubility of the drug in the presence of used carriers was performed to investigate the quantitative increase in solubility. Dissolution studies were performed to explore the drug release behavior from the prepared dispersions. Additionally, the characterization of the prepared formulations was carried out by performing DSC, SEM, XRD, and FTIR studies. The results revealed that among binary systems, K 4 formulation (Drug: Kollidon ® VA 64 at ratio of 1:4 w/w) exhibited optimal performance in terms of increased solubility, drug release, and other investigated parameters. Furthermore, ternary dispersion formulations of the optimized binary formulation were prepared with two more polymers, Kolliphor ® P 407 and Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP-K30), at (Drug: Kollidon ® VA 64:ternary polymer) ratios of 1:4:1, 1:4:2, and 1:4:3 ( w/w ). The results showed that KPVP (TD 3 ) exhibited the highest increase in solubility, as well as dissolution rate, among ternary solid dispersion formulations. Results of solubility enhancement by ternary solid dispersion formulations were also supported by FTIR, DSC, XRD, and SEM analysis. Conclusively, it was found that the ternary solid dispersion-based systems were more effective compared to the binary combinations in improving solubility as well as dissolution of a poorly soluble drug (Irbesartan).

The use of non-thermal plasma technology in producing green fuels is a much-appreciated environmentally friendly approach. In this study, an Al 2 O 3 -supported Cr x ZnS semiconductor catalyst was tested for hydrogen evolution from hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) gas by using a single-layered dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) system. The Al 2 O 3 -supported Cr x ZnS catalyst (x = 0.20, 0.25, and 0.30) was produced by using a co-impregnation method and characterized for its structural and photocatalytic characteristics. The discharge column of the DBD system was filled with this catalyst and fed with hydrogen sulfide and argon gas. The DBD plasma was sustained with a fixed AC source of 10 kV where plasma produced species and UV radiations activated the catalyst to break H 2 S molecules under ambient conditions. The catalyst (hexagonal-cubic-sphalerite structure) showed an inverse relationship between the band gap and the dopant concentration. The hydrogen evolution decreased with an increase in dopant concentration in the nanocomposite. The Cr 0.20 ZnS catalyst showed excellent photocatalytic activity under the DBD exposure by delivering 100% conversion efficiency of H 2 S into hydrogen. The conversion decreased to 96% and 90% in case of Cr 0.25 ZnS and Cr 0.30 ZnS, respectively.

Agarose (AG) is a naturally occurring biocompatible marine seaweed extract that is converted to hydrocolloid gel in hot water with notable gel strength. Currently, its mucoadhesion properties have not been fully explored. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to evaluate the mucoadhesive potential of AG binary dispersions in combination with Carbopol 934P (CP) as mucoadhesive gel preparations. The gels fabricated via homogenization were evaluated for ex vivo mucoadhesion, swelling index (SI), dissolution and stability studies. The mucoadhesive properties of AG were concentration dependent and it was improved by the addition of CP. Maximum mucoadhesive strength (MS) (27.03 g), mucoadhesive flow time (FT) (192.2 min), mucoadhesive time in volunteers (MT) (203.2 min) and SI (23.6% at 4 h) were observed with formulation F9. The mucoadhesive time investigated in volunteers (MT) was influenced by AG concentration and was greater than corresponding FT values. Formulations containing 0.3%, w / v AG (F3 and F9) were able to sustain the release (~99%) for both drugs till 3 h. The optimized formulation (F9) did not evoke any inflammation, irritation or pain in the buccal cavity of healthy volunteers and was also stable up to 6 months. Therefore, AG could be considered a natural and potential polymer with profound mucoadhesive properties to deliver drugs through the mucosal route.

The Mitsunobu reaction plays a vital part in organic chemistry due to its wide synthetic applications. It is considered as a significant reaction for the interconversion of one functional group (alcohol) to another (ester) in the presence of oxidizing agents (azodicarboxylates) and reducing agents (phosphines). It is a renowned stereoselective reaction which inverts the stereochemical configuration of end products. One of the most important applications of the Mitsunobu reaction is its role in the synthesis of natural products. This review article will focus on the contribution of the Mitsunobu reaction towards the total synthesis of natural products, highlighting their biological potential during recent years.

A high-efficiency dual-purpose plasmonic perfect absorber sensor based on LiNbO 3 and graphene layers was investigated in this paper for the refractive index and thermal sensing. The sensor design was kept simple for easy fabrication, comprising a LiNbO 3 substrate with a quartz layer, thin layer of graphene, four gold nanorods, and a nanocavity in each unit cell. The nanocavity is located in the middle of the cell to facilitate the penetration of EM energy to the subsurface layers. The proposed sensor design achieved an output response of 99.9% reflection, which was easy to detect without having any specialized conditions for operability. The performance of the device was numerically investigated for the biomedical refractive index range of 1.33 to 1.40, yielding a sensitivity value of 981 nm/RIU with a figure-of-merit of 61.31 RIU -1 . By including an additional polydimethylsiloxane polymer functional layer on the top, the device was also tested as a thermal sensor, which yielded a sensitivity level of -0.23 nm/°C.

Spinel ferrites are widely investigated for their widespread applications in high-frequency and energy storage devices. This work focuses on enhancing the magnetic and dielectric properties of Ni 0.25 Cu 0.25 Zn 0.50 ferrite series through non-thermal microwave plasma exposure under low-pressure conditions. A series of Ni 0.25 Cu 0.25 Zn 0.50 ferrites was produced using a facile sol-gel auto-ignition approach. The post-synthesis plasma treatment was given in a low-pressure chamber by sustaining oxygen plasma with a microwave source. The structural formation of control and plasma-modified ferrites was investigated through X-ray diffraction analysis, which confirmed the formation of the fcc cubical structure of all samples. The plasma treatment did not affect crystallize size but significantly altered the surface porosity. The surface porosity increased after plasma treatment and average crystallite size was measured as about ~49.13 nm. Morphological studies confirmed changes in surface morphology and reduction in particle size on plasma exposure. The saturation magnetization of plasma-exposed ferrites was roughly 65% higher than the control. The saturation magnetization, remnant magnetization, and coercivity of plasma-exposed ferrites were calculated as 74.46 emu/g , 26.35 emu/g, and 1040 Oe, respectively. Dielectric characteristics revealed a better response of plasma-exposed ferrites to electromagnetic waves than control. These findings suggest that the plasma-exposed ferrites are good candidates for constructing high-frequency devices.

The teeth are the most challenging material to work with in the human body. Existing methods for detecting teeth problems are characterised by low efficiency, the complexity of the experiential operation, and a higher level of user intervention. Older oral disease detection approaches were manual, time-consuming, and required a dentist to examine and evaluate the disease. To address these concerns, we propose a novel approach for detecting and classifying the four most common teeth problems: cavities, root canals, dental crowns, and broken-down root canals, based on the deep learning model. In this study, we apply the YOLOv3 deep learning model to develop an automated tool capable of diagnosing and classifying dental abnormalities, such as dental panoramic X-ray images (OPG). Due to the lack of dental disease datasets, we created the Dental X-rays dataset to detect and classify these diseases. The size of datasets used after augmentation was 1200 images. The dataset comprises dental panoramic images with dental disorders such as cavities, root canals, BDR, dental crowns, and so on. The dataset was divided into 70% training and 30% testing images. The trained model YOLOv3 was evaluated on test images after training. The experiments demonstrated that the proposed model achieved 99.33% accuracy and performed better than the existing state-of-the-art models in terms of accuracy and universality if we used our datasets on other models.

Hiyama cross-coupling is a versatile reaction in synthetic organic chemistry for the construction of carbon-carbon bonds. It involves the coupling of organosilicons with organic halides using transition metal catalysts in good yields and high enantioselectivities. In recent years, hectic progress has been made by researchers toward the synthesis of diversified natural products and pharmaceutical drugs using the Hiyama coupling reaction. This review emphasizes the recent synthetic developments and applications of Hiyama cross-coupling.

The surge in plastic waste production has forced researchers to work on practically feasible recovery processes. Pyrolysis is a promising and intriguing option for the recycling of plastic waste. Developing a model that simulates the pyrolysis of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as the most common polymer is important in determining the impact of operational parameters on system behavior. The type and amount of primary products of pyrolysis, such as oil, gas, and waxes, can be predicted statistically using a multiple linear regression model (MLRM) in R software. To the best of our knowledge, the statistical estimation of kinetic rate constants for pyrolysis of high-density plastic through MLRM analysis using R software has never been reported in the literature. In this study, the temperature-dependent rate constants were fixed experimentally at 420 °C. The rate constants with differences of 0.02, 0.03, and 0.04 from empirically set values were analyzed for pyrolysis of HDPE using MLRM in R software. The added variable plots, scatter plots, and 3D plots demonstrated a good correlation between the dependent and predictor variables. The possible changes in the final products were also analyzed by applying a second-order differential equation solver (SODES) in MATLAB version R2020a. The outcomes of experimentally fixed-rate constants revealed an oil yield of 73% to 74%. The oil yield increased to 78% with a difference of 0.03 from the experimentally fixed rate constants, but light wax, heavy wax, and carbon black decreased. The increased oil and gas yield with reduced byproducts verifies the high significance of the conducted statistical analysis. The statistically predicted kinetic rate constants can be used to enhance the oil yield at an industrial scale.

Erosion of the elbow due to non-Newtonian viscous slurry flows is often observed in hydrocarbon transportation pipelines. This paper intends to study the erosion behavior of double offset U-bends and 180° U-bends for two-phase (liquid-sand) flow. A numerical simulation was conducted using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) on carbon steel pipe bends with a 40 mm diameter and an R/D ratio of 1.5. The validity of the erosion model has been established by comparing it with the results quantified in the literature by experiment. While the maximum erosive wear rates of all evaluated cases were found to be quite different, the maximum erosion locations have been identified between 150° and 180° downstream at the outer curvature. It was seen that with the increase in disperse phase diameter, the erosive wear rate and impact area increased. Moreover, with the change of configuration from a 180° U-bend to a double offset U-bend, the influence of turbulence on the transit of the disperse phase decreases as the flow approaches downstream and results in less erosive wear in a double offset U-bend. Furthermore, the simulation results manifest that the erosive wear increases with an increase in flow velocity, and the erosion rate of the double offset U-bend was nearly 8.58 times less than the 180° U-bend for a carrier fluid velocity of 2 m/s and 1.82 times less for 4 m/s carrier fluid velocity. The erosion rate of the double offset U-bend was reduced by 120% compared to the 180° U-bend for 6 m/s in liquid-solid flow.

A competitive new technology, organic metallic halide perovskite solar cells feature a wide working area, low manufacturing costs, a long lifespan, and a significant amount of large efficacy of power conversion (PCE). The spin-coating technique was utilized for the fabrication of pure CH 3 NH 3 PbBr 3 (MAPbBr 3 ) thin films, and these films are implanted with 600 keV silver (Ag) ions at fluency rate of 6 × 10 14 and 4 × 10 14 ions/cm 2 . XRD analysis confirmed the cubic structure of MAPbBr 3 . A high grain size was observed at the fluency rate of 4 × 10 14 ions/cm 2 . The UV-Vis spectroscopic technique was used to calculate the optical properties such as the bandgap energy (E g ), refractive index (n), extinction coefficients (k), and dielectric constant. A direct E g of 2.44 eV was measured for the pristine film sample, whereas 2.32 and 2.36 eV were measured for Ag ion-implanted films with a 4 × 10 14 and 6 × 10 14 ions/cm 2 fluence rate, respectively. The solar cells of these films were fabricated. The J sc was 6.69 mA/cm 2 , FF was 0.80, V oc was 1.1 V, and the efficiency was 5.87% for the pristine MAPbBr 3 -based cell. All of these parameters were improved by Ag ion implantation. The maximum values were observed at a fluency rate of 4 × 10 14 ions/cm 2 , where the V oc was 1.13 V, FF was 0.75, J sc was 8.18 mA/cm 2 , and the efficiency was 7.01%.

Agarose (AG) forms hydrocolloid in hot water and possesses a noteworthy gel strength. However, no reasonable scientific work on investigating the mucoadhesive character of AG has been reported. Therefore, the current study was designed to develop AG and carbopol (CP) based buccal gel scaffold for simultaneous release of benzocaine (BZN) and tibezonium iodide (TIB). Gels’ scaffold formulations (F1−F12) were prepared with varied concentrations (0.5−1.25% w/v) of AG and CP alone or their blends (AG-CP) using homogenization technique. The prepared formulations were characterized for solid-state, physicochemical, in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo mucoadhesive studies in healthy volunteers. The results showed that mucoadhesive property of AG was concentration dependent but improved by incorporating CP in the scaffolds. The ex vivo mucoadhesive time reached >36 h when AG was used alone or blended with CP at 1% w/v concentration or above. The optimized formulation (F10) depicted >98% drugs release within 8 h and was also storage stable up to six months. The salivary concentration of BZN and TIB from formulation F10 yielded a Cmax value of 9.97 and 8.69 µg/mL at 2 and 6 h (tmax), respectively. In addition, the FTIR, PXRD, and DSC results confirmed the presence of no unwanted interaction among the ingredients. Importantly, the mucoadhesive study performed on healthy volunteers did not provoke any signs of inflammation, pain, or swelling. Clearly, it was found from the results that AG-CP scaffold provided better mucoadhesive properties in comparison to pure AG or CP. Conclusively, the developed AG based mucoadhesive drug delivery system could be considered a potential alternative for delivering drugs through the mucoadhesive buccal route.

One of the most amazing photovoltaic technologies for the future is the organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite solar cell, which exhibits excellent power conversion efficiency (PCE) and can be produced using a straightforward solution technique. Toxic lead in perovskite can be replaced by non-toxic alkaline earth metal cations because they keep the charge balance in the material and some of them match the Goldschmidt rule's tolerance factor. Therefore, thin films of MAPbI 3 , 1% Bi and 0%, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% Sn co-doped MAPbI 3 were deposited on FTO-glass substrates by sol-gel spin-coating technique. XRD confirmed the co-doping of Bi-Sn in MAPbI 3 . The 1% Bi and 1% Sn co-doped film had a large grain size. The optical properties were calculated by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The 1% Bi and 1% Sn co-doped film had small E g , which make it a good material for perovskite solar cells. These films were made into perovskite solar cells. The pure MAPbI 3 film-based solar cell had a current density (J sc ) of 9.71 MA-cm -2 , its open-circuit voltage (V oc ) was 1.18 V, its fill factor (FF) was 0.609 and its efficiency (η) was 6.98%. All of these parameters were improved by the co-doping of Bi-Sn. The cell made from a co-doped MAPbI 3 film with 1% Bi and 1% Sn had a high efficiency (10.03%).

In this article, a rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) with circularly polarized (CP) response is presented for 5G NR (New Radio) Sub-6 GHz band applications. A uniquely shaped conformal metal feeding strip is proposed to excite the RDRA in higher-order mode for high gain utilization. By using the proposed feeding mechanism, the degenerate mode pair of the first higher-order, i.e., TEδ13x at 4.13 GHz and TE1δ3y, at 4.52 GHz is excited to achieve a circularly polarized response. A circular polarization over a bandwidth of ~10%, in conjunction with a wide impedance matching over a bandwidth of ~17%, were attained by the antenna. The CP antenna proposed offers a useful gain of ~6.2 dBic. The achieved CP bandwidth of the RDRA is good enough to cover the targeted 5G NR bands around 4.4−4.8 GHz, such as n79. The proposed antenna configuration is modelled and optimized using computer simulation technology (CST). A prototype was built to confirm (validate) the performance estimated through simulation. A good agreement was observed between simulated and measured results.

High end-to-end delay is a significant challenge in the data collection process in the underwater environment. Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are a considerably reliable source of data collection if they have significant trajectory movement. Therefore, in this paper, a new routing algorithm known as Elliptical Shaped Efficient Data Gathering (ESEDG) is introduced for the AUV movement. ESEDG is divided into two phases: first, an elliptical trajectory has been designed for the horizontal movement of the AUV. In the second phase, the AUV gathers data from Gateway Nodes (GNs) which are associated with Member Nodes (MNs). For their association, an end-to-end delay model is also presented in ESEDG. The hierarchy of data collection is as follows: MNs send data to GNs, the AUV receives data from GNs, and forwards it to the sink node. Furthermore, the ESEDG was evaluated on the network simulator NS-3 version 3.35, and the results were compared to existing data collection routing protocols DSG-DGA, AEEDCO, AEEDCO-A, ALP, SEDG, and AEDG. In terms of network throughput, end-to-end delay, lifetime, path loss, and energy consumption, the results showed that ESEDG outperformed the baseline routing protocols.

The aim of this study was to improve the solubility and prevent the ulcerogenic effect of flurbiprofen. Initially, binary and ternary solid dispersions (BSDs and TSDs) of flurbiprofen were prepared by using non-ordered mesoporous silica and gelucire. After preformulation testing (solubility, flow properties, % yield, and entrapment efficiency), four formulations were selected for further detailed studies. Solid-state characterization of optimized formulations (S1, S6, S7, and S12) showed successful drug incorporation in the solid dispersion at the molecular state without any noticeable interactions. The in vitro solubility and release study showed an increase in solubility and 98-100% of drug release in 30-45 min. The in vivo gastro-protective effect of the optimized formulations containing flurbiprofen and silica (1:1) with 25% w / w gelucire (S6 and S12) showed a reduction in the gastric lesion index (GLI) after four days of treatment. Moreover, histological images of the stomach lining (S6 and S12) illustrated normal epithelial cells and a partially protected mucosal membrane. Thus, TSD exhibited a significant increase in solubility and the dissolution rate and reduced the gastric ulceration. Therefore, TSDs are dubbed as efficacious carriers to enhance the bioavailability of flurbiprofen while simultaneously reducing its side effects.

The development of cost-effective co-catalysts of high photocatalytic activity and recyclability is still a challenge in the energy transformation domain. In this study, 0D/2D Schottky heterojunctions, consisting of 0D ZnO and 2D Ti 3 C 2 , were successfully synthesized by the electrostatic self-assembling of ZnO nanoparticles on Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets. In constructing these heterojunctions, Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets acted as a co-catalyst for enhancing the transfer of excitons and their separation to support the photocatalytic response of ZnO. The as-prepared ZnO/Ti 3 C 2 composites demonstrate an abbreviated charge transit channel, a huge interfacial contact area and the interfacial electrons' transport potential. The extended optical response and large reactive area of the ZnO/Ti 3 C 2 composite promoted the formation of excitons and reactive sites on the photocatalyst's surface. The ZnO/Ti 3 C 2 Schottky heterojunction showed significantly high photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production from a water-ethanol solution under the light illumination in the visible region. The hydrogen evolution overoptimized the ZnO/Ti 3 C 2 composition with 30 wt.% of Ti 3 C 2 , which was eight times higher than the pristine ZnO. These findings can be helpful in developing 0D/2D heterojunction systems for photocatalytic applications by utilizing Ti 3 C 2 as a low-cost co-catalyst.

Antibiotic resistance is a global public health threat and is associated with high mortality due to antibiotics' inability to treat bacterial infections. Enterobacter xiangfangensis is an emerging antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogen from the Enterobacter genus and has the ability to acquire resistance to multiple antibiotic classes. Currently, there is no effective vaccine against Enterobacter species. In this study, a chimeric vaccine is designed comprising different epitopes screened from E. xiangfangensis proteomes using immunoinformatic and bioinformatic approaches. In the first phase, six fully sequenced proteomes were investigated by bacterial pan-genome analysis, which revealed that the pathogen consists of 21,996 core proteins, 3785 non-redundant proteins and 18,211 redundant proteins. The non-redundant proteins were considered for the vaccine target prioritization phase where different vaccine filters were applied. By doing so, two proteins; ferrichrome porin (FhuA) and peptidoglycan-associated lipoprotein (Pal) were shortlisted for epitope prediction. Based on properties of antigenicity, allergenicity, water solubility and DRB*0101 binding ability, three epitopes (GPAPTIAAKR, ATKTDTPIEK and RNNGTTAEI) were used in multi-epitope vaccine designing. The designed vaccine construct was analyzed in a docking study with immune cell receptors, which predicted the vaccine's proper binding with said receptors. Molecular dynamics analysis revealed that the vaccine demonstrated stable binding dynamics, and binding free energy calculations further validated the docking results. In conclusion, these in silico results may help experimentalists in developing a vaccine against E. xiangfangensis in specific and Enterobacter in general.

This study is focused on the kinetics and adsorption isotherms of amine-functionalized magnesium ferrite (MgFe 2 O 4 ) for treating the heavy metals in wastewater. A sol-gel route was adopted to produce MgFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles. The surfaces of the MgFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles were functionalized using primary amine (ethanolamine). The surface morphology, phase formation, and functionality of the MgFe 2 O 4 nano-adsorbents were studied using the SEM, UV-visible, FTIR, and TGA techniques. The characterized nanoparticles were tested on their ability to adsorb the Pb 2+ , Cu 2+ , and Zn 2+ ions from the wastewater. The kinetic parameters and adsorption isotherms for the adsorption of the metal ions by the amine-functionalized MgFe 2 O 4 were obtained using the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Langmuir, and Freundlich models. The pseudo-second order and Langmuir models best described the adsorption kinetics and isotherms, implying strong chemisorption via the formation of coordinative bonds between the amine groups and metal ions. The Langmuir equation revealed the highest adsorption capacity of 0.7 mmol/g for the amine-functionalized MgFe 2 O 4 nano-adsorbents. The adsorption capacity of the nanoadsorbent also changed with the calcination temperature. The MgFe 2 O 4 sample, calcined at 500 °C, removed the most of the Pb 2+ (73%), Cu 2+ (59%), and Zn 2+ (62%) ions from the water.

The aim of the proposed study is to develop a mucoadhesive buccal delivery system for the sustained delivery of metformin (MET) and sitagliptin (SIT) against diabetes mellitus (DM) with improved bioavailability. Polymeric blend of Carbopol ® 940 (CP), agarose (AG) or polyvinylpyrrolidone K30 (PVP) as mucoadhesive agents in formulations (R1-R15) were compressed via the direct compression technique. Tablets were characterized for solid state studies, physicochemical and in vivo mucoadhesion studies in healthy volunteers. Outcomes did not reveal any unusual peak or interaction between the drugs and polymers in the physical mixture through Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and DSC analysis. The mucoadhesive blend of CP and PVP was superior compared to other blends. The formulation R4 revealed exorbitant loading of drugs with complete drug release for 6 h with ex vivo mucoadhesive strength and time of 26.99 g and 8.1 h, respectively. It was further scrutinized to evaluate it as an optimized formulation where it was found to be stable for up to 6 months. The formulation R4 depicted Korsmeyer-Peppas model and first-order mode of release correspondingly for SIT and MET. Moreover, it showed hemocompatibility, biocompatibility and stability with non-significant changes in the dissolution profile. Overall, the CP blend with PVP was found appropriate to yield the desired release coupled with the optimized mucoadhesive properties of the buccal tablets, ensuring sufficient pharmaceutical stability.

An environmentally friendly non-thermal DC plasma reduction route was adopted to reduce Ag+ ions at the plasma−liquid interface into silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) under statistically optimized conditions for biological and photocatalytic applications. The efficiency and reactivity of AgNPs were improved by statistically optimizing the reaction parameters with a Box−Behnken Design (BBD). The size of the AgNPs was chosen as a statistical response parameter, while the concentration of the stabilizer, the concentration of the silver salt, and the plasma reaction time were chosen as independent factors. The optimized parameters for the plasma production of AgNPs were estimated using a response surface methodology and a significant model p < 0.05. The AgNPs, prepared under optimized conditions, were characterized and then tested for their antibacterial, antioxidant, and photocatalytic potentials. The optimal conditions for these three activities were 3 mM of stabilizing agent, 5 mM of AgNO3, and 30 min of reaction time. Having particles size of 19 to 37 nm under optimized conditions, the AgNPs revealed a 82.3% degradation of methyl orange dye under UV light irradiation. The antibacterial response of the optimized AgNPs against S. aureus and E. coli strains revealed inhabitation zones of 15 mm and 12 mm, respectively, which demonstrate an antioxidant activity of 81.2%.

Erosive wear due to the fact of sand severely affects hydrocarbon production industries and, consequently, various sectors of the mineral processing industry. In this study, the effect of the elbow geometrical configuration on the erosive wear of carbon steel for silt-water-air flow conditions were investigated using material loss analysis, surface roughness analysis, and microscopic imaging technique. Experiments were performed under the plug flow conditions in a closed flow loop at standard atmospheric pressure. Water and air plug flow and the disperse phase was silt (silica sand) with a 2.5 wt % concentration, and a silt grain size of 70 µm was used for performing the tests. The experimental analysis showed that silt impact increases material disintegration up to 1.8 times with a change in the elbow configuration from 60° to 90° in plug flow conditions. The primary erosive wear mechanisms of the internal elbow surface were sliding, cutting, and pit propagation. The maximum silt particle impaction was located at the outer curvature in the 50° position in 60° elbows and the 80° position in 90° elbows in plug flow. The erosion rate decreased from 10.23 to 5.67 mm/year with a change in the elbow angle from 90° to 60°. Moreover, the microhardness on the Vickers scale increased from 168 to 199 in the 90° elbow and from 168 to 184 in the 60° elbow.

This study investigated the production of Cu 2+ -doped CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles (CFO NPs) using a facile sol-gel technique. The impact of Cu 2+ doping on the lattice parameters, morphology, optical properties, and electrical properties of CFO NPs was investigated for applications in electrical devices. The XRD analysis revealed the formation of spinel-phased crystalline structures of the specimens with no impurity phases. The average grain size, lattice constant, cell volume, and porosity were measured in the range of 4.55-7.07 nm, 8.1770-8.1097 Å, 546.7414-533.3525 Å 3 , and 8.77-6.93%, respectively. The SEM analysis revealed a change in morphology of the specimens with a rise in Cu 2+ content. The particles started gaining a defined shape and size with a rise in Cu 2+ doping. The Cu 0.12 Co 0.88 Fe 2 O 4 NPs revealed clear grain boundaries with the least agglomeration. The energy band gap declined from 3.98 eV to 3.21 eV with a shift in Cu 2+ concentration from 0.4 to 0.12. The electrical studies showed that doping a trace amount of Cu 2+ improved the electrical properties of the CFO NPs without producing any structural distortions. The conductivity of the Cu 2+ -doped CFO NPs increased from 6.66 × 10 -10 to 5.26 × 10 -6 ℧ cm -1 with a rise in Cu 2+ concentration. The improved structural and electrical characteristics of the prepared Cu 2+ -doped CFO NPs made them a suitable candidate for electrical devices, diodes, and sensor technology applications.

Functionalised holograms are important for applications utilising smart diffractive optical elements for light redirection, shaping and in the development of sensors/indicators. This paper reports on holographic recording in novel magnetic nanocomposites and the observed temperature change in dry layers and liquid samples exposed to alternating magnetic field (AMF). The nanocomposite consists of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA)-based polymer doped with magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), and local heating is achieved through magnetic induction. Here, volume transmission holographic gratings (VTHGs) are recorded with up to 24% diffraction efficiency (DE) in the dry layers of magnetic nanocomposites. The dry layers and liquid samples are then exposed to AMF. Efficient heating was observed in the liquid samples doped with Fe 3 O 4 MNPs of 20 nm average size where the temperature increased from 27 °C to 64 °C after 300 s exposure to 111 mT AMF. The temperature increase in the dry layers doped with the same nanoparticles after exposure to 4.4 mT AMF was observed to be 6 °C. No temperature change was observed in the undoped layers. Additionally, we have successfully recorded Denisyuk holograms in the magnetic nanocomposite materials. The results reveal that the magnetic nanocomposite layers are suitable for recording holograms and need further optimisation in developing holographic indicators for mapping AMFs.

The use of ZnO as a photocatalyst with a reduced recombination rate of charge carriers and maximum visible light harvesting remains a challenge for researchers. Herein, we designed and synthesized a unique La/ZnO/CNTs heterojunction system via a sol-gel method to evaluate its photocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution. A ferrocene powder catalyst was tested for the production of CNT forests over Si/SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 substrate. A chemical vapor deposition (CVD) route was followed for the forest growth of CNTs. The La/ZnO/CNTs composite showed improved photocatalytic efficiency towards hydrogen evolution (184.8 mmol/h) in contrast to 10.2 mmol/h of pristine ZnO. The characterization results show that promoted photocatalytic activity over La/ZnO/NTs is attributed to the spatial separation of the charge carriers and extended optical absorption towards the visible light spectrum. The optimum photocatalyst shows a 16 h cycle performance for hydrogen evolution. The H 2 evolution rate under visible light illumination reached 10.2 mmol/h, 145.9 mmol/h and 184.8 mmol/h over ZnO, La/ZnO and La/ZnO/CNTs, respectively. Among the prepared photocatalysts, ZnO showed the lowest H 2 evolution rate due to the fast recombination of electron-hole pairs than heterojunction photocatalysts. This research paves the way for the development of ZnO and CNT-based photocatalysts with a wide optical response and reduced charge carrier recombinations.

Cyber-threats are becoming a big concern due to the potential severe consequences of such threats is false data injection (FDI) attacks where the measures data is manipulated such that the detection is unfeasible using traditional approaches. This work focuses on detecting FDIs for phasor measurement units where compromising one unit is sufficient for launching such attacks. In the proposed approach, moving averages and correlation are used along with machine learning algorithms to detect such attacks. The proposed approach is tested and validated using the IEEE 14-bus and the IEEE 30-bus test systems. The proposed performance was sufficient for detecting the location and attack instances under different scenarios and circumstances.

Poor solubility is the major challenge involved in the formulation development of new chemical entities (NCEs), as more than 40% of NCEs are practically insoluble in water. Solid dispersion (SD) is a promising technology for improving dissolution and, thereby, the bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs. This study investigates the influence of a pH-sensitive acrylate polymer, EPO, on the physicochemical properties of rosuvastatin calcium, an antihyperlipidemic drug. In silico docking was conducted with numerous polymers to predict drug polymer miscibility. The screened-out polymer was used to fabricate the binary SD of RoC in variable ratios using the co-grinding and solvent evaporation methods. The prepared formulations were assessed for physiochemical parameters such as saturation solubility, drug content and in vitro drug release. The optimized formulations were further ruled out using solid-state characterization (FTIR, DSC, XRD and SEM) and in vitro cytotoxicity. The results revealed that all SDs profoundly increased solubility as well as drug release. However, the formulation RSE-2, with a remarkable 71.88-fold increase in solubility, presented 92% of drug release in the initial 5 min. The molecular interaction studied using FTIR, XRD, DSC and SEM analysis evidenced the improvement of in vitro dissolution. The enhancement in solubility of RoC may be important for the modulation of the dyslipidemia response. Therefore, pharmacodynamic activity was conducted for optimized formulations. Our findings suggested an ameliorative effect of RSE-2 in dyslipidemia and its associated complications. Moreover, RSE-2 exhibited nonexistence of cytotoxicity against human liver cell lines. Convincingly, this study demonstrates that SD of RoC can be successfully fabricated by EPO, and have all the characteristics that are favourable for superior dissolution and better therapeutic response to the drug.
