The goal of this review is to shed light on the management of orofacial discomfort after a cancer diagnosis in the head and neck region. A search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science to identify studies on postoperative pain control in oral cancer. The review included open-access research, investigations into pain management, randomized clinical trials, retrospective studies, case-control studies, prospective studies, English-written studies, and full-text publications. Exclusion criteria included animal studies; in vitro studies; off-topic studies; reviews, case reports, letters, or comments; and non-English language. Three reviewers independently accessed databases and assigned a quality rating to the chosen articles. The review explores postoperative pain management in oral cancer patients; highlighting persistent opioid use; the efficacy of adjuvant drugs, such as gabapentin; and a multimodal approach. It emphasizes the need for personalized pain management, recognizing individual pain perception and tailoring interventions. Integrating pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies is crucial for comprehensive pain management. The review also serves as a guide for future research, emphasizing the need for standardized methodologies and diverse participant populations.

The relationship between cesarean section (CS) delivery and intestinal microbiota is increasingly studied. CS-born infants display distinct gut microbial compositions due to the absence of maternal birth canal microorganisms. These alterations potentially link to long-term health implications like immune-related disorders and allergies. This correlation underscores the intricate connection between birth mode and the establishment of diverse intestinal microbiota. A systematic literature review was conducted on the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases by analyzing the articles and examining the intricate interactions between CS delivery and the infant's intestinal microbiota. The analysis, based on a wide-ranging selection of studies, elucidates the multifaceted dynamics involved in CS-associated shifts in the establishment of fetal microbiota. We also explore the potential ramifications of these microbial changes on neonatal health and development, providing a comprehensive overview for clinicians and researchers. By synthesizing current findings, this review contributes to a deeper understanding of the interplay between delivery mode and early microbial colonization, paving the way for informed clinical decisions and future investigations in the field of perinatal medicine.

The pulmonary valve (PV) is the least imaged among the heart valves. However, pulmonary regurgitation (PR) and pulmonary stenosis (PS) can occur in a variety of patients ranging from fetuses, newborns (e.g., tetralogy of Fallot) to adults (e.g., endocarditis, carcinoid syndrome, complications of operated tetralogy of Fallot). Due to their complexity, PR and PS are studied using multimodality imaging to assess their mechanism, severity, and hemodynamic consequences. Multimodality imaging is crucial to plan the correct management and to follow up patients with pulmonary valvulopathy. Echocardiography remains the first line methodology to assess patients with PR and PS, but the information obtained with this technique are often integrated with cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and computed tomography (CT). This state-of-the-art review aims to provide an updated overview of the usefulness, strengths, and limits of multimodality imaging in patients with PR and PS.

Ischemic chronic cardiomyopathy (ICC) is still one of the most common cardiac diseases leading to the development of myocardial ischemia, infarction, or heart failure. The application of several imaging modalities can provide information regarding coronary anatomy, coronary artery disease, myocardial ischemia and tissue characterization. In particular, coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) can provide information regarding coronary plaque stenosis, its composition, and the possible evaluation of myocardial ischemia using fractional flow reserve CT or CT perfusion. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) can be used to evaluate cardiac function as well as the presence of ischemia. In addition, CMR can be used to characterize the myocardial tissue of hibernated or infarcted myocardium. Echocardiography is the most widely used technique to achieve information regarding function and myocardial wall motion abnormalities during myocardial ischemia. Nuclear medicine can be used to evaluate perfusion in both qualitative and quantitative assessment. In this review we aim to provide an overview regarding the different noninvasive imaging techniques for the evaluation of ICC, providing information ranging from the anatomical assessment of coronary artery arteries to the assessment of ischemic myocardium and myocardial infarction. In particular this review is going to show the different noninvasive approaches based on the specific clinical history of patients with ICC.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a potentially fatal event usually caused by a cardiac arrhythmia, which is often the result of coronary artery disease (CAD). Up to 80% of patients suffering from SCD have concomitant CAD. Arrhythmic complications may occur in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) before admission, during revascularization procedures, and in hospital intensive care monitoring. In addition, about 20% of patients who survive cardiac arrest develop a transmural myocardial infarction (MI). Prevention of ACS can be evaluated in selected patients using cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA), while diagnosis can be depicted using electrocardiography (ECG), and complications can be evaluated with cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and echocardiography. CCTA can evaluate plaque, burden of disease, stenosis, and adverse plaque characteristics, in patients with chest pain. ECG and echocardiography are the first-line tests for ACS and are affordable and useful for diagnosis. CMR can evaluate function and the presence of complications after ACS, such as development of ventricular thrombus and presence of myocardial tissue characterization abnormalities that can be the substrate of ventricular arrhythmias. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) continue to be a major global health concern, representing a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. This review provides a comprehensive examination of CVDs, encompassing their pathophysiology, diagnostic biomarkers, advanced imaging techniques, pharmacological treatments, surgical interventions, and the emerging role of herbal remedies. The review covers various cardiovascular conditions such as coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, peripheral artery disease, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, cardiomyopathy, rheumatic heart disease, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cerebrovascular diseases, and congenital heart defects. The review presents a wide range of cardiac biomarkers such as troponins, C-reactive protein, CKMB, BNP, NT-proBNP, galectin, adiponectin, IL-6, TNF-α, miRNAs, and oxylipins. Advanced molecular imaging techniques, including chest X-ray, ECG, ultrasound, CT, SPECT, PET, and MRI, have significantly enhanced our ability to visualize myocardial perfusion, plaque characterization, and cardiac function. Various synthetic drugs including statins, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, β-blockers, calcium channel blockers, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, and antiarrhythmics are fundamental in managing CVDs. Nonetheless, their side effects such as hepatic dysfunction, renal impairment, and bleeding risks necessitate careful monitoring and personalized treatment strategies. In addition to conventional therapies, herbal remedies have garnered attention for their potential cardiovascular benefits. Plant extracts and their bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, saponins, and alkaloids, offer promising cardioprotective effects and enhanced cardiovascular health. This review underscores the value of combining traditional and modern therapeutic approaches to improve cardiovascular outcomes. This review serves as a vital resource for researchers by integrating a broad spectrum of information on CVDs, diagnostic tools, imaging techniques, pharmacological treatments and their side effects, and the potential of herbal remedies. Oral health is essential for both overall health and quality of life. The mouth is a window into the body's health, and nutrition can strongly impact the state of general and oral health. A healthy diet involves the synergistic effect of various nutraceutical agents, potentially capable of conferring protective actions against some inflammatory and chronic-degenerative disorders. Nutraceuticals, mostly present in plant-derived products, present multiple potential clinical, preventive, and therapeutic benefits. Accordingly, preclinical and epidemiological studies suggested a protective role for these compounds, but their real preventive and therapeutic effects in humans still await confirmation. Available evidence suggests that plant extracts are more effective than individual constituents because they contain different phytochemicals with multiple pharmacological targets and additive/synergistic effects, maximizing the benefits for oral health. Moreover, nutritional recommendations for oral health should be personalized and aligned with valid suggestions for overall health. This review is aimed to: introduce the basic concepts of nutraceuticals, including their main food sources; examine the logic that supports their relationship with oral health, and summarize and critically discuss clinical trials testing the utility of nutraceuticals in the prevention and treatment of oral diseases. Simple Summary: Cardiac fibrosis is a common manifestation of heart disease that leads to the deterioration of cardiac function and the development of cardiac arrhythmias. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is particularly influenced by cardiac fibrosis, which is considered one of the primary factors in its development. Various diagnostic techniques can be employed to assess myocardial fibrosis, including cardiac imaging and the evaluation of circulating biomarkers. Among these biomarkers, galectin-3 (Gal-3) is notable for its involvement in inflammation and tissue fibrosis associated with cardiac disease. In humans, several studies have reported that an increased serum Gal-3 concentration is a risk factor for AF. In this study, we evaluated the serum concentration of Gal-3 in 26 dogs with AF associated with acquired cardiac diseases. A total of 17 cardiac healthy dogs and 30 dogs with cardiac disease but without AF served as controls. Our findings indicated no significant difference in Gal-3 concentrations between healthy dogs and dogs with cardiac disease, regardless of the presence of AF. Gal-3 showed a significant positive correlation with age. The results of this study suggest that Gal-3 does not have an important role for the development of AF in dogs, but it is associated with advanced age. Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a lectin associated with fibrosis and inflammation, and increased circulating concentrations are considered a risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF) in humans. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the serum concentration of Gal-3 in dogs with cardiac disease, both with and without AF. Dogs with AF associated with acquired heart diseases were selected, while cardiac healthy dogs and dogs with heart diseases but without AF served as controls. We statistically compared the serum concentration of Gal-3, which was assessed using a commercial canine-specific ELISA kit, among healthy dogs and dogs with heart disease with and without AF. Additionally, associations between Gal-3 and clinical and echocardiographic variables were evaluated. A total of 73 dogs were included, of which 17/73 (23.3%) were cardiac healthy and 56/73 (76.7%) had heart disease, with 26/56 (46.4%) having AF. No significant difference in Gal-3 concentration was found between cardiac healthy dogs (3.90 ± 1.65 ng/mL) and dogs with heart disease, either with or without AF (3.37 ± 1.04 ng/mL, p = 0.436 and 4.68 ± 1.80 ng/mL, p = 0.332, respectively). Gal-3 showed a significant positive correlation with age (r = 0.47, p < 0.001) and a negative correlation with body weight (r = −0.45, p < 0.001). Background: This study looks at the clinical applications of nanotechnology in dentistry, with an emphasis on implantology, preventive care, orthodontics, restorative dentistry, and endodontics. Methods: Following PRISMA criteria and registered in PROSPERO (ID: CRD 564245), a PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science search was conducted for studies from January 2014 to April 2024. The criteria were English-language research on nanotechnology in dental coatings, with a focus on clinical trials and observational studies. The electronic database search yielded 8881 publications. Following the screening process, 17 records were selected for qualitative analysis. Results: Nanotechnology has revolutionized dentistry. In orthodontics, nanoparticles improve antibacterial characteristics, durability, and biocompatibility, lowering bacterial colonization and plaque. In preventative care, Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (CPP-ACP) combined with stannous fluoride (SnF2) and nano-sized sodium trimetaphosphate (TMPnano) substantially remineralizes enamel. Nanostructured surfaces in dental implants, particularly those containing calcium, improve osseointegration and stability. Nanoparticles in restorative dentistry improve composite and adhesive strength, aesthetics, and longevity. Conclusions: Nanotechnology improves dental materials and equipment, resulting in better treatment outcomes and increased patient comfort. Its integration provides more effective treatments, which improves dental care and patient outcomes. Physical activity is recommended for the prevention of primary and secondary cardiovascular (CV) disease as it is linked to a number of health benefits, especially CV. However, recent research suggests that high-volume, long-term endurance exercise may hasten rather than slow the coronary atherosclerosis progression. This contentious theory has generated a great discussion and is still a major source of doubt when it comes to the clinical treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD) in athletes. CAD is the primary cause of sudden cardiac death in athletes over 35 years. Thus, recent studies evaluated the prevalence of CAD in athletes and its clinical and prognostic implications. Indeed, many studies have shown a relationship between endurance sports and higher volumes of coronary calcified plaque as determined by computed tomography. However, the precise pathogenetic substrate for the existence of an increased coronary calcification burden among endurance athletes remains unclear. Moreover, the idea that coronary plaques in elite athletes present a benign morphology has been cast into doubt by some recent studies showing potential association with adverse cardiovascular events. This review aims to analyze the association between physical activity and CAD, explaining possible underlying mechanisms of atherosclerotic progression and non-ischemic coronary lesions, focusing primarily on clinical and prognostic implications, multimodal evaluation, and management of CAD in endurance athletes. Background/Objectives: Recent advances in artificial intelligence, particularly in cardiac imaging, can potentially enhance patients' diagnosis and prognosis and identify novel imaging markers. We propose an automated, computer-aided algorithm utilizing native cardiac computed tomography (CT) imaging to identify myocardial fibrosis. This study aims to evaluate its performance compared to CMR markers of fibrosis in a cohort of patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Methods: The study included patients diagnosed with early HER2+ breast cancer, who presented LV dysfunction (LVEF < 50%) and myocardial fibrosis detected on CMR at the time of diagnosis. The patients were also evaluated by cardiac CT, and the extracted images were processed for the implementation of the automatic, computer-assisted algorithm, which marked as fibrosis every pixel that fell within the range of 60–90 HU. The percentage of pixels with fibrosis was subsequently compared with CMR parameters. Results: A total of eight patients (n = 8) were included in the study. High positive correlations between the algorithm's result and the ECV fraction (r = 0.59, p = 0.126) and native T1 (r = 0.6, p = 0.112) were observed, and a very high positive correlation with LGE of the LV(g) and the LV-LGE/LV mass percentage (r = 0.77, p = 0.025; r = 0.81, p = 0.015). A very high negative correlation was found with GLS (r = −0.77, p = 0.026). The algorithm presented an intraclass correlation coefficient of 1 (95% CI 0.99–1), p < 0.001. Conclusions: The present pilot study proposes a novel promising imaging marker for myocardial fibrosis, generated by an automatic algorithm based on native cardiac CT images. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This multicenter, retrospective, population-based, matched-cohort study compared clinical characteristics and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, including hepatic, pancreatic, and cardiac iron levels and cardiac function, between 135 adult regularly transfused thalassemia intermedia (TI) patients (44.73 ± 12.16 years, 77 females) and 135 age- and sex-matched thalassemia major (TM) patients (43.35 ± 9.83 years, 77 females), enrolled in the Extension-Myocardial Iron Overload in Thalassemia Network. Methods: The MRI protocol included the quantification of hepatic, pancreatic, and cardiac iron levels (R2* technique), the assessment of biventricular function parameters (cine images), and the detection of replacement myocardial fibrosis (late gadolinium enhancement technique). Results: Age, sex, frequency of splenectomy and chelation, and serum ferritin levels were not significantly different (p > 0.05) between the two groups, but TI patients started regular transfusions significantly later (p < 0.0001) and showed significantly lower pre-transfusion hemoglobin levels (p = 0.005). No difference was found in hepatic iron levels (p = 0.853). TI patients exhibited significantly lower pancreatic R2* values (p < 0.0001), also correcting for the duration of regular transfusions, and significantly lower cardiac R2* values (p < 0.0001). In the receiver operating characteristic analysis, pancreatic iron was the strongest discriminator between the two diseases. Left and right ventricular end-diastolic volume indexes were significantly higher in TI than in TM patients (p = 0.003 and p = 0.046, respectively), but the correction for the duration of regular transfusions removed the disease-specific differences (p > 0.05). Left ventricular (LV) mass index was significantly higher in TI (p = 0.049), while no difference (p > 0.05) was found in biventricular ejection fractions and replacement myocardial fibrosis. Conclusions: TI patients showed lower pancreatic and cardiac iron burden and more pronounced LV hypertrophy. Despite significant goals achieved in diagnosis and treatment in recent decades, coronary artery disease (CAD) remains a high mortality entity and continues to pose substantial challenges to healthcare systems globally. After the latest guidelines, novel data have emerged and have not been yet considered for routine practice. The scope of this review is to go beyond the guidelines, providing insights into the most recent clinical updates in CAD, focusing on non-invasive diagnostic techniques, risk stratification, medical management and interventional therapies in the acute and stable scenarios. Highlighting and synthesizing the latest developments in these areas, this review aims to contribute to the understanding and management of CAD helping healthcare providers worldwide. Whereas an exercise intervention effectively improves patients' quality of life, little information is available about the contribution of each physical fitness component. This study aims to explore the association between physical fitness components and the quality-of-life domain in patients with cancer. Between September 2021 and August 2023, 160 patients with mixed cancer types visiting the Oncology Unit were selected on a consecutive basis according to selection criteria. They underwent a comprehensive baseline assessment including the six-minute walking test, the handgrip strength test, the isometric leg press test, the back scratch, sit and reach tests, their waist–hip ratio, and their body mass index. The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life and Core Questionnaire was used to measure the quality of life. The sample size was based on the use of regression models to study associations between clinical characteristics and fitness outcomes. All of the analyses were performed using the SPSS v.25 statistical package. Patients had a mean age of 58 years, 68% were female, 42% were affected by breast cancer, and all were receiving anticancer treatments. Higher functional capacity was associated with better global health status (p < 0.0001) and physical (p < 0.0001), role (p < 0.0001), emotional (p = 0.026), and social function (p = 0.016) and inversely linked with fatigue (p = 0.001). Lower-limb flexibility was significantly associated with all of the domains except for role and social functions. The waist–hip ratio was inversely associated with physical function (p < 0.0001) and positively related to fatigue (p = 0.037). Background: Negative CCTA can effectively exclude significant CAD, eliminating the need for further noninvasive or invasive testing. However, in the presence of severe CAD, the accuracy declines, thus necessitating additional testing. The aim of our study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of noninvasive cFFR derived from CCTA, compared to ICA in detecting hemodynamically significant stenoses in participants with high CAC scores (>400). Methods: This study included 37 participants suspected of having CAD who underwent CCTA and ICA. CAC was calculated and cFFR analyses were performed using an on-site machine learning-based algorithm. Diagnostic accuracy parameters of CCTA and cFFR were calculated on a per-vessel level. Results: The median total CAC score was 870, with an IQR of 642–1370. Regarding CCTA, sensitivity and specificity for RCA were 60% and 67% with an AUC of 0.639; a LAD of 87% and 50% with an AUC of 0.688; an LCX of 33% and 90% with an AUC of 0.617, respectively. Regarding cFFR, sensitivity and specificity for RCA were 60% and 61% with an AUC of 0.606; a LAD of 75% and 54% with an AUC of 0.647; an LCX of 50% and 77% with an AUC of 0.647. No significant differences between AUCs of coronary CTA and cFFR for each vessel were found. Conclusions: Our results showed poor diagnostic accuracy of CCTA and cFFR in determining significant ischemia-related lesions in participants with high CAC scores when compared to ICA. Based on our results and study limitations we cannot exclude cFFR as a method for determining significant stenoses in people with high CAC. The aim of this in vivo study was to compare total protein present in the salivary films (F) and acquired enamel pellicle (AEP) on eroded and non-eroded surfaces in patients suffering from GORD symptoms with and without GORD diagnosis (GORD, No-GORD). Thirty-nine patients suffering from GORD symptoms and erosive tooth wear on lower first molars and an unaffected posterior occlusal surface in the same quadrant were recruited from Guy's hospital, London. Salivary film and AEP were collected from the eroded and uneroded occlusal surfaces, using 0.5% sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS)-soaked filter papers. Total protein concentration was analysed using bicinchoninic acid assay (BCA). Statistical analysis was conducted using Shapiro–Wilk, ANOVA, and Tukey's tests (p < 0.05), comparing four GDS sample types and GORD vs. No-GORD groups. The level of significance was set as p < 0.05. Data were compared between eroded and uneroded surfaces in the same patient with GORD symptoms, as well as between those with or without a GORD diagnosis (GORD, No-GORD). The AEP total protein concentration from the eroded [2.17 (0.49) mg/mL] and uneroded surfaces [2.24 (0.66) mg/mL] of the GORD group were statistically significantly lower than those on eroded [3.27 (1.01) mg/mL] and uneroded [3.33 (1.57) mg/mL] surfaces in the No-GORD group (p = 0.007) (p = 0.008), respectively. CT angiography has become, in recent years, a main evaluating modality for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Recent advancements in the field have allowed us to identity not only the presence of obstructive disease but also the characteristics of identified lesions. High-risk coronary atherosclerotic plaques are identified in CT angiographies via a number of specific characteristics and may provide prognostic and therapeutic implications, aiming to prevent future ischemic events via optimizing medical treatment or providing coronary interventions. In light of new evidence evaluating the safety and efficacy of intervening in high-risk plaques, even in non-flow-limiting disease, we aim to provide a comprehensive review of the diagnostic algorithms and implications of plaque vulnerability in CT angiography, identify any differences with invasive imaging, analyze prognostic factors and potential future therapeutic options in such patients, as well as discuss new frontiers, including intervening in non-flow-limiting stenoses and the role of CT angiography in patient stratification. Patients consistently rate cancer-related fatigue (CrF) as the most prevalent and debilitating symptom. CrF is an important but often neglected patient concern, partly due to barriers to implementing evidence-based interventions. This study explored what an ideal intervention for CrF would look like from the perspectives of different stakeholders and the barriers to its implementation. Three participant populations were recruited: healthcare providers (HCPs; n = 32), community support providers (CSPs; n = 14), and cancer patients (n = 16). Data were collected via nine focus groups and four semi-structured interviews. Data were coded into themes using content analysis. Two main themes emerged around addressing CrF: "It takes a village" and "This will not be easy". Participants discussed an intervention for CrF could be anywhere, offered by anyone and everyone, and provided early and frequently throughout the cancer experience and could include peer support, psychoeducation, physical activity, mind–body interventions, and interdisciplinary care. Patients, HCPs, and CSPs described several potential barriers to implementation, including patient barriers (i.e., patient variability, accessibility, online literacy, and overload of information) and systems barriers (i.e., costs, lack of HCP knowledge, system insufficiency, and time). As CrF is a common post-treatment symptom, it is imperative to offer patients adequate support to manage CrF. Historically, cardiovascular prevention has been predominantly focused on stress-induced ischemia, but recent trials have challenged this paradigm, highlighting the emerging role of vulnerable, non-flow-limiting coronary plaques, leading to a shift towards integrating plaque morphology with functional data into risk prediction models. Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) represents a high-resolution, low-risk, and largely available non-invasive modality for the precise delineation of plaque composition, morphology, and inflammatory activity, further enhancing our ability to stratify high-risk plaque and predict adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring, derived from CCTA, has emerged as a promising tool for predicting future cardiovascular events in asymptomatic individuals, demonstrating incremental prognostic value beyond traditional cardiovascular risk factors in terms of myocardial infarction, stroke, and all-cause mortality. Additionally, CCTA-derived information on adverse plaque characteristics, geometric characteristics, and hemodynamic forces provides valuable insights into plaque vulnerability and seems promising in guiding revascularization strategies. Additionally, non-invasive assessments of epicardial and pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) further refine risk stratification, adding prognostic significance to coronary artery disease (CAD), correlating with plaque development, vulnerability, and rupture. Moreover, CT imaging not only aids in risk stratification but is now emerging as a screening tool able to monitor CAD progression and treatment efficacy over time. In this narrative review, we investigate the essential role played by the computed tomography Aortic Valve Calcium Score (AVCS) in the cardiovascular diagnostic landscape, with a special focus on its implications for clinical practice and scientific research. Calcific aortic valve stenosis is the most prevalent type of aortic stenosis (AS) in industrialized countries, and due to the aging population, its prevalence is increasing. While transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) remains the gold standard, AVCS stands out as an essential complementary tool in evaluating patients with AS. The advantage of AVCS is its independence from flow; this allows for a more precise evaluation of patients with discordant findings in TTE. Further clinical applications of AVCS include in the assessment of patients before transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), as it helps in predicting outcomes and provides prognostic information post-TAVR. Additionally, we describe different AVCS thresholds regarding gender and the anatomical variations of the aortic valve. Finally, we discuss various scientific studies where AVCS was applied. As AVCS has some limitations, due to the pathophysiologies of AS extending beyond calcification and gender differences, scientists strive to validate contrast-enhanced AVCS. Pyracantha is a genus of wild perennial shrubs native in an area extending from Southwest Europe to Southeast Asia, and it is used in traditional medicine for the diuretic, cardiac, and tonic properties of its fruits, which can also be cooked to make jellies, jams, and sauces. This work aims to study and compare the antioxidant activity and the phenolic and anthocyanin composition of three varieties of Pyracantha coccinea: Red Column (PCR), Orange Glow (PCO), and Soleil d'Or (PCS), and one of Pyracantha angustifolia: Orange glow (PAO), collected from the spontaneous flora of the Mediterranean region (Southern Italy). Two different extraction processes were tested using methanol and an aqueous methanol solution (80% MeOH) to evaluate the polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity of freeze-dried berries. The highest total phenolic content was found in PCR and PAO berries (174.21 ± 0.149 and 168.01 ± 0.691 mg of gallic acid equivalent per gram of dry matter, respectively) extracted with an aqueous methanol solution (80% MeOH). Polyphenolic extracts analyzed by HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS confirmed the presence of rutin, quercetin hexose, neoeriocitrin, procyanidin B, and resveratrol. Moreover, the total antioxidant activity of the berries' extracts was measured by comparing two different spectrophotometric methods (ABTS and DPPH), showing that the varieties with the highest total phenolic content, PCR and PAO, also had the highest scavenging activity. Finally, a suitable extraction process was chosen for the evaluation of the anthocyanins' composition of all frozen berries, and in all MS spectra of Pyracantha varieties, two ionic species at 449 m/z attributable to two cyanidin derivatives were found. Infective endocarditis is a rare disease with an increasing incidence and an unaltered high mortality rate, despite medical development. Imaging plays an integrative part in the diagnosis of infective endocarditis, with echocardiography as the initial diagnostic test. Research data in the utility of cardiac computed tomography (CCT) in the diagnostic algorithm of IE are rising, which indicates its importance in detection of IE-related lesion along with the exclusion of coronary artery disease. The latest 2023 European Society of Cardiology Guidelines in the management of IE classified CCT as class of recommendation I and level of evidence B in detection of both valvular and paravalvular lesions in native and prosthetic valve endocarditis. This review article provides a comprehensive and contemporary review of the role of CCT in the diagnosis of IE, the optimization of acquisition protocols, the morphology characteristics of IE-related lesions, the published data of the diagnostic performance of CCT in comparison to echocardiography as the state-of-art method, as well as the limitations and future possibilities. Congenital heart diseases (CHDs) represent a heterogeneous group of congenital defects, with high prevalence worldwide. Non-invasive imaging is essential to guide medical and surgical planning, to follow the patient over time in the evolution of the disease, and to reveal potential complications of the chosen treatment. The application of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) in this population allows for obtaining detailed information on the defects without the necessity of ionizing radiations. This review emphasizes the central role of CMR in the overall assessment of CHDs, considering also the limitations and challenges of this imaging technique. CMR, with the application of two-dimensional (2D) and tri-dimensional (3D) steady-state free precession (SSFP), permits the obtaining of very detailed and accurate images about the cardiac anatomy, global function, and volumes' chambers, giving essential information in the intervention planning and optimal awareness of the postoperative anatomy. Nevertheless, CMR supplies tissue characterization, identifying the presence of fat, fibrosis, or oedema in the myocardial tissue. Using a contrast agent for angiography sequences or 2D/four-dimensional (4D) flows offers information about the vascular, valvular blood flow, and, in general, the cardiovascular system hemodynamics. Furthermore, 3D SSFP CMR acquisitions allow the identification of coronary artery abnormalities as an alternative to invasive angiography and cardiovascular computed tomography (CCT). However, CMR requires expertise in CHDs, and it can be contraindicated in patients with non-conditional devices. Furthermore, its relatively longer acquisition time and the necessity of breath-holding may limit its use, particularly in children under eight years old, sometimes requiring anesthesia. The gut microbiota (GM) plays a crucial role in human health, particularly during the first years of life. Differences in GM between breastfed and formula (F)-fed infants may influence long-term health outcomes. This systematic review aims to compare the gut microbiota of breastfed infants with that of F-fed infants and to evaluate the clinical implications of these differences. We searched databases on Scopus, Web of Science, and Pubmed with the following keywords: "gut microbiota", "gut microbiome", and "neonatal milk". The inclusion criteria were articles relating to the analysis of the intestinal microbiome of newborns in relation to the type of nutrition, clinical studies or case series, excluding reviews, meta-analyses, animal models, and in vitro studies. The screening phase ended with the selection of 13 publications for this work. Breastfed infants showed higher levels of beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, while F-fed infants had a higher prevalence of potentially pathogenic bacteria, including Clostridium difficile and Enterobacteriaceae. Infant feeding type influences the composition of oral GM significantly. Breastfeeding promotes a healthier and more diverse microbial ecosystem, which may offer protective health benefits. Cardiovascular disease remains an integral field on which new research in both the biomedical and technological fields is based, as it remains the leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. However, despite the progress of cardiac imaging techniques, the heart remains a challenging organ to study. Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the major innovations in the field of diagnostic imaging, with a dramatic impact on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). AI will be increasingly present in the medical world, with strong potential for greater diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. Regarding the use of AI in image acquisition and reconstruction, the main role was to reduce the time of image acquisition and analysis, one of the biggest challenges concerning magnetic resonance; moreover, it has been seen to play a role in the automatic correction of artifacts. The use of these techniques in image segmentation has allowed automatic and accurate quantification of the volumes and masses of the left and right ventricles, with occasional need for manual correction. Furthermore, AI can be a useful tool to directly help the clinician in the diagnosis and derivation of prognostic information of cardiovascular diseases. This review addresses the applications and future prospects of AI in CMR imaging, from image acquisition and reconstruction to image segmentation, tissue characterization, diagnostic evaluation, and prognostication. Chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) is one of the leading cardiovascular causes of morbidity, mortality, and use of medical resources. After the introduction by international guidelines of the same level of recommendation to non-invasive imaging techniques in CCS evaluation, a large debate arose about the dilemma of choosing anatomical (with coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA)) or functional imaging (with stress echocardiography (SE), cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), or nuclear imaging techniques) as a first diagnostic evaluation. The determinant role of the atherosclerotic burden in defining cardiovascular risk and prognosis more than myocardial inducible ischemia has progressively increased the use of a first anatomical evaluation with CCTA in a wide range of pre-test probability in CCS patients. Functional testing holds importance, both because the role of revascularization in symptomatic patients with proven ischemia is well defined and because functional imaging, particularly with stress cardiac magnetic resonance (s-CMR), gives further prognostic information regarding LV function, detection of myocardial viability, and tissue characterization. Emerging techniques such as stress computed tomography perfusion (s-CTP) and fractional flow reserve derived from CT (FFRCT), combining anatomical and functional evaluation, appear capable of addressing the need for a single non-invasive examination, especially in patients with high risk or previous revascularization. Furthermore, CCTA in peri-procedural planning is promising to acquire greater importance in the non-invasive planning and guiding of complex coronary revascularization procedures, both by defining the correct strategy of interventional procedure and by improving patient selection. Aim: Cytokines are crucial low-molecular-weight proteins involved in immune responses. This systematic review highlights the need for in-depth studies on cytokines' biological mechanisms, providing insights into disease onset and potential therapeutic strategies. Materials and methods: A comprehensive literature search identified 18 relevant articles, emphasizing the multifaceted role of cytokines in orthodontic treatment (OT). The quality assessment using the ROBINS-I tool ensures a rigorous evaluation of the included studies, contributing to the overall reliability of the findings. Results and Conclusions: This systematic review explores the intricate relationship between cytokines and OT. Cytokines exhibit different properties, influencing cellular activities through autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine activities. Curcumin (Curcumin) belongs to the polyphenol family. It is extracted by drying the root of a plant of Asian origin, belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. The best-known species is Curcumincuma Longa. Curcumin has been recognized as having great therapeutic powers since ancient times. Studies on curcumin have since confirmed its powerful antioxidant properties, preventing both the formation of free radicals and their neutralization, having anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, immunological, and neuroprotective properties, as well as being a regulator of the intestinal microbiota with beneficial effects on the clinical manifestations of metabolic syndrome. Our study aimed to highlight how all these therapeutic aspects could benefit oral health, both preventing and improving the course of pathological processes. The effect of mouthwashes, and curcumin-based gels on the regulation of bacterial plaque and in the control of gingivitis, was largely comparable to that of using 0.20% chlorhexidine, with fewer side effects. Being a highly hydrophobic substance, it has a high permeability to cross the cell membrane. Bioavailability increases when combined with liposoluble substances (e.g., olive oil) and piperine, which improves absorption. The importance of assessing and estimating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on financial markets and economic activity has attracted the interest of researchers and practitioners in recent years. The proposed study aims to explore the pandemic's impact on the economic activity of six Euro area economies. A class of dynamic panel data models and their corresponding Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) models are developed and applied to model the economic activity of six Eurozone countries. This class of models allows for common and country-specific covariates to affect the real growth, as well as for cross-sectional dependence in the error processes. Estimation and inference for this class of panel models are based on both Bayesian and classical techniques. Our findings reveal that significant heterogeneity exists among the different economies with respect to the explanatory/predictive factors. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic varied across the Euro area economies under study. Nonetheless, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic profoundly affected real economic activity across all regions and countries. Background: The aim of this study was to assess the importance of T1-mapping sequences in the diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in patients without foci of non-ischemic myocardial injury in classic cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) sequences. Methods: Two groups were compared: 28 patients with HCM, without any foci of myocardial injury in the late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) sequence (HCM group), and 28 patients without cardiomyopathy (CON group). Classic CMR sequences and T1-mapping sequences were performed. The following parameters were assessed: T1 time of the whole left ventricular myocardium, T1 time of myocardium in the basal, middle and apical layers of the left ventricle, and T1 time in individual segments of the left ventricular myocardium. Myocardial extracellular volume (ECV) was assessed similarly. Results: ECV was significantly higher in the HCM group than in the CON group, for the whole left ventricular myocardium, for the basal and apical layers of the left ventricle, and for segments 1–3, 8, and 13–16 of the left ventricle. Regression analysis showed that a higher left-ventricular mass index (LVMI), a higher body mass index and older age are factors independently associated with a higher ECV of the whole myocardium but only in the group with LVMI ≥ 131.84 g/m2. Arrhythmic risk stratification in patients with Lamin A/C gene (LMNA)-related cardiomyopathy influences clinical decisions. An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) should be considered in patients with an estimated 5-year risk of malignant ventricular arrhythmia (MVA) of ≥10%. The risk prediction score for MVA includes non-missense LMNA mutations, despite their role as an established risk factor for sudden cardiac death (SCD) has been questioned in several studies. The purpose of this study is to investigate cardiac features and find gene–phenotype correlations that would contribute to the evidence on the prognostic implications of non-missense vs. missense mutations in a cohort of LMNA mutant patients. An observational, prospective study was conducted in which 54 patients positive for a Lamin A/C mutation were enrolled, and 20 probands (37%) were included. The median age at first clinical manifestation was 41 (IQR 19) years. The median follow-up was 8 years (IQR 8). The type of LMNA gene mutation was distributed as follows: missense in 26 patients (48%), non-frameshift insertions in 16 (30%), frameshift deletions in 5 (9%), and nonsense in 7 (13%). Among the missense mutation carriers, two (8%) died and four (15%) were admitted onto the heart transplant list or underwent transplantation, with a major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE) rate of 35%. No statistically significant differences in MACE prevalence were identified according to the missense and non-missense mutation groups (p value = 0.847). Our data shift the spotlight on this considerable topic and could suggest that some missense mutations may deserve attention regarding SCD risk stratification in real-world clinical settings. (1) Background: Computed tomography (CT) plays a paramount role in the characterization and follow-up of COVID-19. Several score systems have been implemented to properly assess the lung parenchyma involved in patients suffering from SARS-CoV-2 infection, such as the visual quantitative assessment score (VQAS) and software-based quantitative assessment score (SBQAS) to help in managing patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study aims to investigate and compare the diagnostic accuracy of the VQAS and SBQAS with two different types of software based on artificial intelligence (AI) in patients affected by SARS-CoV-2. (2) Methods: This is a retrospective study; a total of 90 patients were enrolled with the following criteria: patients' age more than 18 years old, positive test for COVID-19 and unenhanced chest CT scan obtained between March and June 2021. The VQAS was independently assessed, and the SBQAS was performed with two different artificial intelligence-driven software programs (Icolung and CT-COPD). The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) statistical index and Bland–Altman Plot were employed. (3) Results: The agreement scores between radiologists (R1 and R2) for the VQAS of the lung parenchyma involved in the CT images were good (ICC = 0.871). The agreement score between the two software types for the SBQAS was moderate (ICC = 0.584). The accordance between Icolung and the median of the visual evaluations (Median R1–R2) was good (ICC = 0.885). The correspondence between CT-COPD and the median of the VQAS (Median R1–R2) was moderate (ICC = 0.622). (4) Conclusions: This study showed moderate and good agreement upon the VQAS and the SBQAS; enhancing this approach as a valuable tool to manage COVID-19 patients and the combination of AI tools with physician expertise can lead to the most accurate diagnosis and treatment plans for patients. Cardiomyopathies (CMPs) are a group of myocardial disorders that are characterized by structural and functional abnormalities of the heart muscle. These abnormalities occur in the absence of coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension, valvular disease, and congenital heart disease. CMPs are an increasingly important topic in the field of cardiovascular diseases due to the complexity of their diagnosis and management. In 2023, the ESC guidelines on cardiomyopathies were first published, marking significant progress in the field. The growth of techniques such as cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and genetics has been fueled by the development of multimodal imaging approaches. For the diagnosis of CMPs, a multimodal imaging approach, including CMR, is recommended. CMR has become the standard for non-invasive analysis of cardiac morphology and myocardial function. This document provides an overview of the role of CMR in CMPs, with a focus on tissue mapping. CMR enables the characterization of myocardial tissues and the assessment of cardiac functions. CMR sequences and techniques, such as late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and parametric mapping, provide detailed information on tissue composition, fibrosis, edema, and myocardial perfusion. These techniques offer valuable insights for early diagnosis, prognostic evaluation, and therapeutic guidance of CMPs. Background and Objectives: Myocardial bridging (MB) is still not yet considered a significant finding in Indonesia both radiographically and clinically. Hence, this article aims to assess the prevalence of MB using multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) and look at factors contributing to stenosis amongst patients with MB. Materials and Methods: This study is cross-sectional in a single centre, with consecutive sampling, looking at all patients who underwent a multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) scan from February 2021 until February 2023. GraphPad Prism version 9.0.0 for Windows (GraphPad Software, Boston, MA, USA) was used to analyse the results. Results: There are 1029 patients with an MB, yielding a prevalence of 44.3% (95%CI 42.3–46.4). The left anterior descending vessel is the most commonly implicated, with 99.6%. Among those with stenosis, the middle portion of the bridging vessel is the most common site of stenosis (n = 269), followed by the proximal portion (n = 237). The severity of stenosis is more often moderate, with 30–50% (n = 238). Females (odds ratio [OR] of 1.8, 95%CI 1.4–2.3; p-value < 0.0001), older age (t-value 5.6, p-value < 0.0001), symptomatic patients (OR 1.4, 95% CI 1.1–1.9; p-value = 0.013), and higher mean coronary artery calcium score (t-value 11.3, p-value < 0.0001) are more likely to have stenosis. The degree of stenosis is significantly higher in the proximal stenosis group than in the middle stenosis group (t-value 27, p-value < 0.0001). Conclusions: Our research demonstrates that MB may prevent atheromatosis of the coronary segment distal to the MB and predispose the development of atherosclerosis in the section proximal to the bridge. Risk stratification for malignant ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death is a daunting task for physicians in daily practice. Multiparametric mapping sequences obtained via cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging can improve the risk stratification for malignant ventricular arrhythmias by unveiling the presence of pathophysiological pro-arrhythmogenic processes. However, their employment in clinical practice is still restricted. The present review explores the current evidence supporting the association between mapping abnormalities and the risk of ventricular arrhythmias in several cardiovascular diseases. The interventricular septum (IVS) is a core myocardial structure involved in biventricular coupling and performance. Physiologically, during systole, it moves symmetrically toward the center of the left ventricle (LV) and opposite during diastole. Several pathological conditions produce a reversal or paradoxical septal motion, such as after uncomplicated cardiac surgery (CS). The postoperative paradoxical septum (POPS) was observed in a high rate of cases, representing a unicum in the panorama of paradoxical septa as it does not induce significant ventricular morpho-functional alterations nor negative clinical impact. Although it was previously considered a postoperative event, evidence suggests that it might also appear during surgery and gradually resolve over time. The mechanism behind this phenomenon is still debated. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive review of the various theories generated over the past fifty years to explain its pathological basis. Simple Summary: Although cancer survival is increasing and many survivors report having to endure pain, its prevalence and consequences have received little attention. We found that pain is associated with reduced quality of life as well as diminished emotional and professional performance in long-term cancer survivors. In addition, a neuropathic component often goes underdiagnosed and/or undertreated. Adopting appropriate neuropathic pain diagnostic tools should be standard clinical practice and targeting the neuropathic component seems to be a good, yet underused therapeutic approach which has the potential to improve cancer survivors' health outcomes. Cancer survival is becoming more common which means that there is now a growing population of cancer survivors, in whom pain may be common. However, its prevalence has hardly been addressed systematically. We aimed to assess the prevalence and explore the pathophysiology and impact of pain on health outcomes in cancer survivors. We conducted a retrospective–prospective cohort study in cancer-free patients diagnosed with cancer at least five years before the study start date. We used multivariable regression to establish the association of patients' cancer characteristics with pain, and then the association of patients' pain features with health outcomes and related symptoms. Between March and July 2021, 278 long-term cancer survivors were evaluated. Almost half of them (130/278, 46.8%) had pain, of whom 58.9% had a probable neuropathic component, but only 18 (13.8%) were taking specific drugs for neuropathic pain. A history of surgery-related pain syndrome in breast cancer patients was more than twice as frequent in the pain cohort. Post-chemotherapy and post-radiotherapy pain syndromes were uncommon. Pain was associated with lower QoL, emotional functioning, professional performance, and disability scores. Pain is a frequent health determinant in cancer survivors. Background: Opioid-induced constipation (OIC) is a pervasive and distressing side effect of chronic opioid therapy in patients with cancer pain, significantly impacting their quality of life. Peripherally acting μ-opioid receptor antagonists (PAMORAS) were developed for treatment-resistant OIC but most studies were conducted with non-cancer patients. Objective: to discuss two oral formulations of PAMORAs, naldemedine and naloxegol, and to review available evidence of the effectiveness of these drugs for OIC in cancer patients. Methods: a comprehensive search to identify primary literature for either naldemedine or naloxegol for OIC in cancer patients. Results: Only three prospective randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials for naldemedine enrolling cancer patients were identified; the results of a subgroup analysis of two of those studies and two non-interventional post marketing surveillance studies of these trials are also reported here. For naloxegol, only two randomized controlled trials were identified; both were unsuccessful in enrolling sufficient patients. An additional four prospective non-interventional observational studies with naloxegol were found that enrolled cancer patients. There were significantly higher rates of responders in the PAMORA groups than in the placebo groups. The most common side effect for both PAMORAs was diarrhea. Limitations: All studies were industry-funded, and given that only three trials were randomized controlled studies, the overall quality of the studies was lacking. Conclusion: Naldemedine or naloxegol appeared safe and useful in the treatment of OIC in cancer patients and may improve their quality of life. Purpose: Myocarditis is frequently a sporadic disease, but may also occur in the context of genetic disorders which may increase susceptibility to cardiac inflammation. Cardiac involvement in Wolfram syndrome type 1 (WS1) has been scarcely characterized. To our knowledge, no cases of virus-negative myocarditis have been reported in the WS1 pediatric population. Methods: We report the description of a pediatric case of acute myocarditis in the context of WS1, followed by a literature review of cardiovascular involvement associated with wolframin variants, and discuss potential pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic options. Results: A young patient with WS1, treated with insulin and liraglutide, was admitted for acute chest pain. Cardiac magnetic resonance and endomyocardial biopsy were performed to confirm the clinical suspicion of myocarditis. While congenital heart diseases and arrhythmias have been described previously in patients with WS1, this is the first description of virus-negative myocarditis. Introduction: Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) are the most important modalities used in clinical practice to assess cardiac chambers. However, different imaging techniques may affect their results and conclusions. The aim of our study was to compare left-ventricle (LV) remodeling assessed using TTE and CMR in the context of various cardiovascular diseases. Methods: A total of 202 consecutive patients sent for an elective cardiovascular diagnosis were scheduled for a 2D TTE and CMR, performed within 2 weeks. The study group was divided and analyzed based on the clinical indications for CMR, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, native aortic valve regurgitation or paravalvular leak after aortic valve replacement, or cardiomyopathies. Results: The mean LV mass index (LVMi) values calculated using TTE were significantly larger (127.1 ± 44.5 g/m²) compared to the LVMi assessed using CMR (77.1 ± 26.2 g/m²; p < 0.001). The LV end-diastolic volumes assessed using TTE were underestimated for all the study patients (78.6 ± 43 mL vs. 100.5 ± 39 mL; p < 0.0001) and subgroups, but a statistical trend was observed in patients with cardiomyopathy. Those differences in single parameters led to differences in LV remodeling and the final treatment decision. CMR and TTE provided similar conclusions on LV systolic dysfunction in 68% of the patients. Conclusions: Our results showed that the greater the degree of LV remodeling and dysfunction, the greater the difference between the modalities. Therefore, CMR should be introduced into routine clinical practice, especially for patients undergoing LV remodeling, which may change clinical decisions in a considerable number of cases. Background: Noninvasive imaging methods, either anatomical or functional tests, serve as essential instruments for the appropriate management of patients with established or suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). We sought to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) plus stress cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (S-CMR) strategy in patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). Methods: Patients with suspected CCS showing intermediate coronary plaques (stenosis 30–70%) at CCTA underwent S-CMR. Patients with a positive S-CMR were referred to invasive coronary angiography (ICA) plus instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR), and myocardial revascularization if recommended. All patients received guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT), including high-dose statins, regardless of myocardial revascularization. The primary endpoint was a composite of death from cardiovascular causes, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and unplanned revascularization. Results: According to the results of CCTA, 62 patients showing intermediate coronary plaques underwent S-CMR, which was positive for a myocardial perfusion deficit in n = 17 (27%) and negative in n = 45 (73%) patients. According to the results of ICA plus iFR, revascularization was performed in 13 patients. No differences in the primary endpoint between the positive and negative S-CMR groups were observed at 1 year (1 [5.9%] vs. 1 [2.2%], p = 0.485) and after a median of 33.4 months (2 [11.8%] vs. 3 [6.7%]; p = 0.605). Conclusions: Our study suggests that a CCTA plus S-CMR strategy is effective for the evaluation of patients with suspicion of CCS at low–intermediate risk, and it may help to refine the selection of patients with intermediate coronary plaques at CCTA needing coronary revascularization. Mitral regurgitation (MR), a primary cause of valvular disease in adults, affects millions and is growing due to an ageing population. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has emerged as an essential tool, offering insights into valvular and myocardial pathology when compared to the primary imaging modality, echocardiography. This review highlights CMR's superiority in high-resolution volumetric assessment and tissue characterization, including also advanced techniques like late gadolinium enhancement imaging, parametric mapping, feature tracking and 4D flow analysis. These techniques provide a deeper understanding of MR's pathophysiology and its effect on cardiac chambers, enabling CMR to surpass echocardiography in predicting hard clinical outcomes and left ventricular (LV) remodelling post mitral valve surgery. Despite its advantages, CMR's application faces limitations like cost, lack of standardization, and susceptibility to arrhythmia artifacts. Nonetheless, as technological advancements continue and new evidence emerges, CMR's role in MR assessment is set to expand, offering a more nuanced and personalized approach to cardiac care. The purpose of the study was to identify factors characterizing a decrease in LV global systolic function in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) after revascularization using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based ischemic injury pattern and laboratory parameters sensu left ventricular global systolic function. A total of 109 STEMI patients were examined. The patients underwent contrast-enhanced cardiac MRI with a 1.5 Tesla GE SIGNA Voyager (GE HealthCare, Chicago, IL, USA) on the 7th–10th days from the onset of the disease. According to cardiac MRI analysis, the patients were divided into the following groups with regard to left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) values: Group 1—patients with LVEF ≥ 50%; group 2—patients with mildly reduced LVEF 40–49%; group 3—patients with low LVEF < 40%. A predominance of most parameters of the ischemic injury pattern was noted in patients with mildly reduced and low LVEF versus patient group with LVEF ≥ 50%. Some risk factors for a decrease in LVEF < 50% systolic function in STEMI patients after revascularization were revealed: male gender; time from the onset of the anginal attack to revascularization; coronary artery status; several LV parameters; ischemic injury characteristics; natriuretic peptide and troponin I levels. The interdisciplinary discoveries in stem cell applications and scaffold design and fabrication, including novel techniques and biomaterials, have demonstrated immense potential in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative therapy. Scaffolds play a pivotal role in regenerative dentistry by facilitating tissue regeneration and restoring damaged or missing dental structures. These biocompatible and biomimetic structures serve as a temporary framework for cells to adhere, proliferate, and differentiate into functional tissues. This review provides a concise overview of the evolution of scaffold strategies in regenerative dentistry, along with a novel analysis (Bard v2.0 based on the Gemini neural network architecture) of the most commonly employed materials used for scaffold fabrication during the last 10 years. Additionally, it delves into bioprinting, stem cell colonization techniques and procedures, and outlines the prospects of regenerating a whole tooth in the future. Moreover, it discusses the optimal conditions for maximizing mesenchymal stem cell utilization and optimizing scaffold design and personalization through precise 3D bioprinting. The thymus is a lymphoid organ involved in the differentiation of T cells, and has a central role in the physiopathogenesis of Myasthenia Gravis (MG). This connection is proved by a series of changes in the level of neuromuscular junctions, which leads to a decrease in the amplitude of the action potential in the post-synaptic membrane. Because of this, the presence of anti-cholinergic receptor antibodies (AChR), characteristic of MG, is found, which causes the progressive regression of the effect of acetylcholine at the level of neuromuscular junctions, with the appearance of muscle weakness. The thymectomy is a surgical variant of drug therapy administered to patients with MG. In the case of patients with nonthymomatous MG, thymectomy has become a therapeutic standard, despite the fact that there is no solid scientific evidence to explain its positive effect. Videothoracoscopic surgery or robotic surgery led to a decrease in the length of hospital stay for these patients. Cardiac troponin serum concentration is the primary marker used for the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome. Moreover, the measurement of cardiac troponin concentration is important for risk stratification in patients with pulmonary embolism. The cardiac troponin level is also a general marker of myocardial damage, regardless of etiology. The purpose of this study is to conduct a literature review and present the most important information regarding the current state of knowledge on the cardiac troponin serum concentration in patients with chronic cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as on the relationships between cardiac troponin serum concentration and features of subclinical cardiovascular dysfunction. According to research conducted to date, patients with CVDs, such as chronic coronary syndrome, chronic lower extremities' ischemia, and cerebrovascular disease, are characterized by higher cardiac troponin concentrations than people without a CVD. Moreover, the literature data indicate that the concentration of cardiac troponin is correlated with markers of subclinical dysfunction of the cardiovascular system, such as the intima–media thickness, pulse wave velocity, ankle–brachial index, coronary artery calcium index (the Agatston score), and flow-mediated dilation.
