Joint transceiver beamforming is a fundamental and crucial research task in the field of signal processing. Despite extensive efforts made in recent years, the joint transceiver beamforming of frequency diverse array (FDA)-based multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) radar has received relatively less attention and is confronted with some tricky challenges, such as range–angle decoupling and the interaction between multiple performance metrics. In this paper, we initially derive the generalized ambiguity function of the FDA-MIMO radar to explore the intrinsic correlation between its waveform design and resolution. Following that, the joint beamforming optimization is formulated as a nonconvex bivariate quadratic programming problem (NBQP) with the aim of maximizing the Signal-to-Interference-Noise Ratio (SINR) of the FDA-MIMO radar system. Building upon this, we introduce an innovative alternating manifold optimization with nested iteration (AMO-NI) algorithm to address the NBQP. By incorporating manifold optimization into iterative updates of transmit waveform and receiving filter, the AMO-NI algorithm considers the interdependencies among the optimization variables. The algorithm efficiently and expeditiously finds global optimum solutions within a finite number of iterations. A high-frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) is the only sensor that provides inexpensive surveillance for up to 200 nautical miles (NM) of the exclusive economic zone in the 3–5 MHz band. However, because of its long wavelength, its angular resolution is low. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology is an attractive method to improve angular resolution. This paper proposes MIMO waveforms and their processing that can be used in HFSWR systems. This dual modulation method applies linear frequency modulation to each pulse and orthogonal polyphase codes for a few consecutive pulses to enable MIMO processing. The conventional back projection (BP) algorithm is an accurate time-domain algorithm widely used for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar imaging, owing to its independence of antenna array configuration. The time-delay curve correction back projection (TCC-BP) algorithm greatly reduces the computational complexity of BP but suffers from spatial-variant correction, sidelobe interference and background noise due to the use of coherent superposition of echo time-delay curves. In this article, a residual attention U-Net-based (RAU-Net) MIMO radar imaging method that adapts complex noisy scenarios with spatial variation and sidelobe interference is proposed. On the basis of the U-Net underlying structure, we develop the RAU-Net with two modules: a residual unit with identity mapping and a dual attention module to obtain resolution spatial-variant correction and denoising on real-world MIMO radar images. The network realizes MIMO radar imaging based on the TCC-BP algorithm and substantially reduces the total computational time of the BP algorithm on the basis of improving the imaging resolution and denoising capability. Extensive experiments on the simulated and measured data demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms both the traditional methods and learning-imaging methods in terms of spatial-variant correction, denoising and computational complexity. The problem of accurate source localization has been an area of focus in high-frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) applications. However, antenna pattern distortion (APD) decreases the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation performance of the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. Up to now, limited studies have been conducted on the calibration of antenna pattern distortion for phased arrays in HFSWR. In this paper, we first analyze the effect of APD on the performance of the MUSIC algorithm through estimation of accuracy and angular resolution. We demonstrate that using the actual pattern (or say APD) can improve DOA estimation performance. Based on this proposition, we propose a novel iterative calibration method that employs the first-order sea clutter data and can jointly estimate DOA and APD in an iterative way. To obtain available calibration points, we introduce the extraction methods of the first-order sea clutter spectrum and single-DOA spectrum points. Meanwhile, in each iteration, the Beamspace MUSIC algorithm and artificial hummingbird algorithm (AHA) are utilized to estimate the DOA and APD, respectively. Numerical results reveal a good coincidence between the actual pattern and the estimated APD. We also apply this method to process the experimental data of HFSWR. We obtain the APD vector of the real phased array and improve the direction-finding performance of several real ship targets using this vector. In classical radar imaging, such as in Earth remote sensing, electromagnetic waves are usually assumed to propagate in free space. However, in numerous applications, such as ground penetrating radar or non-destructive testing, this assumption no longer holds. When there is a multi-material background, the subsurface image reconstruction becomes considerably more complex. Imaging can be performed in the spatial domain or, equivalently, in the wavenumber domain (k-space). In subsurface imaging, to date, objects with a non-planar surface are commonly reconstructed in the spatial domain, by the Backprojection algorithm combined with ray tracing, which is computationally demanding. On the other hand, objects with a planar surface can be reconstructed more efficiently in k-space. However, many non-planar surfaces are partly planar. Therefore, in this paper, a novel concept is introduced that makes use of the efficient k-space-based reconstruction algorithms for partly planar scenarios, too. The proposed algorithm forms an image from superposing sub-images where as many image parts as possible are reconstructed in the wavenumber domain, and only as many as necessary are reconstructed in the spatial domain. For this, a segmentation scheme is developed to determine which parts of the image volume can be reconstructed in the wavenumber domain. The novel concept is verified by measurements, both from monostatic synthetic aperture radar data and multiple-input–multiple-output radar data. In this paper, we address the problem of covariance matrix estimation for radar adaptive detection under non-Gaussian clutter. Traditional model-based estimators may suffer from performance loss due to the mismatch between real data and assumed models. Therefore, we resort to a data-driven deep-learning method and propose a covariance matrix estimation method based on a complex-valued convolutional neural network (CV-CNN). Moreover, a real-valued (RV) network with the same framework as the proposed CV network is also constructed to serve as a natural competitor. The obtained clutter covariance matrix estimation based on the network is applied to the adaptive normalized matched filter (ANMF) detector for performance assessment. The detection results via both simulated and real sea clutter illustrate that the estimator based on CV-CNN outperforms other traditional model-based estimators as well as its RV competitor in terms of probability of detection (PD). In this study, we investigated two waveform design problems for a dual-functional radar communication (DFRC) system, taking into consideration different constrained communication quality-of-service (QoS) requirements. Our objective was to minimize the mean-square error (MSE) of radar beampattern matching as the cost function. To this end, the multi-user interference (MUI) energy constraint and constructive interference (CI) constraint were, respectively, formulated to ensure the communication QoS. It is important to note that we designed a strict per-user MUI energy constraint at each sampling moment to achieve more accurate control over communication performance. Additionally, we introduced a constant-modulus constraint to optimize the efficiency of the radio frequency (RF) amplifier. To tackle the nonconvex waveform design problems encountered, we employed the alternative direction methods of multipliers (ADMM) technique. This allowed us to decompose the original problem into two solvable subproblems, which were then solved using the majorization–minimization (MM) method and geometrical structure. Realization and enhancement of detection techniques for multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems require polyphase code sequences with excellent orthogonality characteristics. Therefore, orthogonal waveform design is the key to realizing MIMO radar. Conventional orthogonal waveform design methods fail to ensure acceptable orthogonal characteristics by individually optimizing the autocorrelation sidelobe peak level and the cross-correlation sidelobe peak level. In this basis, the multi-objective Archimedes optimization algorithm (MOIAOA) is proposed for orthogonal waveform optimization while simultaneously minimizing the total autocorrelation sidelobe peak energy and total cross-correlation peak energy. A novel optimal individual selection method is proposed to select those individuals that best match the weight vectors and lead the evolution of these individuals to their respective neighborhoods. Then, new exploration and development phases are introduced to improve the algorithm's ability to increase its convergence speed and accuracy. Subsequently, novel incentive functions are formulated based on distinct evolutionary phases, followed by the introduction of a novel environmental selection method aimed at comprehensively enhancing the algorithm's convergence and distribution. Finally, a weight updating method based on the shape of the frontier surface is proposed to dynamically correct the shape of the overall frontier, further enhancing the overall distribution. The results of experiments on the orthogonal waveform design show that the multi-objective improved Archimedes optimization algorithm (MOIAOA) achieves superior orthogonality, yielding lower total autocorrelation sidelobe peak energy and total cross-correlation peak energy than three established methods. The water-filling (WF) algorithm is a widely used design strategy in the radar waveform design field to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). To address the problem of the poor resolution performance of the waveform caused by the inability to effectively control the bandwidth, a novel waveform-related optimization model is established in this paper. Specifically, a corrected SINR expression is first derived to construct the objective function in our optimization model. Then, equivalent bandwidth and energy constraints are imposed on the waveform to formulate the waveform-related non-convex optimization model. Next, the optimal frequency spectrum is obtained using the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker condition of our non-convex model. Finally, the transmit waveform in the time domain is synthesized under the constant modulus constraint. Different experiments based on simulated and real-measured data are constructed to demonstrate the superior performance of the designed waveform on the SINR and equivalent bandwidth compared to the linear frequency modulated signal and waveform designed by the WF algorithm. In addition, to further evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in the application of cognitive radar (CR), a closed-loop radar system design strategy is introduced based on our waveform design method. The traditional phased array radar is unable to distinguish mainlobe deceptive interference from the true target when they share an identical angle. To address this issue, a method is developed to suppress the interference in the joint transmit–receive–Doppler frequency domain, using secondary compensation and quadratic phase code (QPC) with the frequency diversity array multiple-input multiple-output (FDA-MIMO) radar. The QPC technique is employed by encoding the transmitted pulses in various spatial channels, which extends the degrees-of-freedom (DOFs) of the system. To distinguish and suppress the false targets behind the true target by at least one pulse, Doppler compensation is performed and Doppler filters are employed. To distinguish the fast-generated false targets, which are located in the same pulse with the true target, the spatial frequency compensation is implemented, which equivalently relocates the mainlobe interference to the sidelobes. Via the singular spectrum analysis (SSA) technique and the data-dependent beamforming, the interferences within the ambiguity region are suppressed. In this paper, we propose a multi-beam integrated radar and communication scheme using phased-array antenna, in which the same LFM-BPSK integrated waveform is used for both the radar and the communication beams. In the integrated beam design, the radar beam is periodically scanned in different directions for detection, and the communication beam is periodically manipulated in one direction for communication. The system's beamforming uses adaptive beamforming technology to achieve radar echoes and communication reception. For the LFM-BPSK integrated waveform used by the system, we propose a method for estimating parameters during communication reception. Through simulation, the proposed beam-pattern design, adaptive beamforming, and parameter estimation scheme can achieve radar and communication functions using phased-array antennas. The Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) radar, as a new type of radar, emits orthogonal waveforms, which provide it with waveform diversity characteristics, leading to increased degrees of freedom and improved target detection performance. However, it also poses challenges such as difficulty in meeting higher data demand, separating waveforms, and suppressing the multidimensional sidelobes (range sidelobes, Doppler sidelobes, and angle sidelobes) of targets. Phase-coded signals are frequently employed as orthogonal transmission signals in the MIMO radar. However, these signals exhibit poor Doppler sensitivity, and the intra-pulse Doppler frequency shift can have an impact on the effectiveness of the matching filtering process. To address the aforementioned concerns, this paper presents a novel approach called the Space–Time–Range Joint Adaptive Focusing and Detection (STRJAFD) method. The proposed method utilizes the Mean Square Error (MSE) criterion and integrates spatial, temporal, and waveform dimensions to achieve efficient adaptive focusing and detection of targets. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms conventional cascaded adaptive methods in effectively addressing the matching mismatch issue caused by Doppler frequency shift, achieving super-resolution focusing, possessing better suppression effects on three-dimensional sidelobes and clutter, and exhibiting better detection performance in low signal-to-clutter ratio and low signal-to-noise ratio environments. Due to the fast scanning speed of the current phased-array radar and the moving characteristics of the target, the moving target usually spans multiple beams during coherent integration time, which results in severe performance loss for target focusing and parameter estimation because of the unknown entry/departure beam time within the coherent period. To solve this issue, a novel focusing and detection method based on the multi-beam phase compensation function (MBPCF), multi-scale sliding windowed phase difference (MSWPD), and spatial projection are proposed in this paper. The proposed method mainly includes the following three steps. First, the geometric and signal models of multiple beam integration with observed moving targets are accurately established where the range migration (RM), Doppler frequency migration (DFM), and beam migration (BM) are analyzed. Based on that, the BM is eliminated by the MBPCF, the second-order keystone transform (SOKT) is utilized to mitigate the RM, and then, a new MSWPD operation is developed to estimate the target's entry/departure beam time, which realizes well-focusing output within the beam. After that, by dividing the radar detection area, the spatial projection (SP) method is adopted to obtain multiple-beams joint integration, and thus, improved detection performance can be obtained. In the present complex electromagnetic environment, radar target detection is threatened by different kinds of interferences, especially mainlobe deceptive interference, which occupies the same energy distributions of targets spatially, meaning that targets and interferences cannot be discriminated. To make matters worse, the number of suppressible interferences is limited by the number of physical array elements, leading to the degradation of the suppression performance of traditional radar. In this work, we propose a frequency-increment-based interference suppression method for minimum redundancy frequency diverse array multiple-input multiple-output (MR-FDA-MIMO) radar, which effectively solves the aforementioned two problems. The interference suppression method consists of two steps: (i) in the sidelobe barrage interference suppression stage, the interference-plus-noise covariance matrix is reconstructed to overcome the influence of the true targets and mainlobe deceptive interference on the performance of the beamformer; (ii) in the mainlobe deceptive interference suppression stage, a nonadaptive beamforming method is employed to suppress mainlobe deceptive interference and overcome the impact of insufficient virtual samples on interference suppression performance. Additionally, we design a frequency-increment-based MR-FDA-MIMO radar, fully utilizing the advantages of the virtual array to enhance interference suppression performance and increase the number of interferences. In recent years, MIMO high-frequency surface wave radar (MIMO-HFSWR) plays an increasingly important role in sea surveillance because of its wide-area surveillance capabilities. In signal processing, the coherent targets with the same distance and speed can only be distinguished in the angle dimension. However, HF radar's angular resolution is poor because of the restrictions of the aperture, which causes aliasing of targets on the range–angle (RA) spectrum. Traditional super-resolution algorithms, such as MUSIC, are also inapplicable because of the targets' coherence. Therefore, the spatial smoothing algorithm is usually used to realize the decoherence of echo at the cost of array aperture. The loss of array aperture makes the algorithm fail when there are too many targets in the echo. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes an iterative calculation method (iterative calculation via weight vector orthogonal decomposition, IC-WORD) to estimate the angle of multiple coherent targets. Through the verification of simulation, it is proved that IC-WORD has better performance than the traditional spatial smoothing algorithm. More specifically, IC-WORD can correct spectral peak shift, improve angle measurement accuracy, and still operate stably under the condition of multiple coherent targets. Ground-based radar interferometry is capable of measuring target displacement to sub-mm accuracy. W-band ground-based radar has recently been investigated as a potential application for structural health monitoring. On the other hand, the application of W-band ground-based radar for natural slope monitoring is considered in this study due to its advantages in portability and recent cost-effective solutions. In radar interferometry, atmospheric phase screen (APS) is the most relevant phase disturbance that should be corrected for accurate displacement measurement. However, the APS effects in W-band radar interferometry have rarely been discussed. In this context, we study and evaluate the impacts of APS and its potential correction methods for 79 GHz ground-based radar interferometry using multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) radar. This paper presents an experimental investigation of a 79 GHz radar system using two types of field experiments conducted in an open flat field and a quarry site. In addition to the W-band radar system, a Ku-band (17 GHz) ground-based synthetic aperture radar (GB-SAR) system was jointly tested to compare different operating frequency bands. Simultaneously polarimetric radar (SPR) realizes the rapid measurement of a target's polarimetric scattering matrix by transmitting orthogonal radar waveforms of good ambiguity function (AF) properties and receiving their echoes via two orthogonal polarimetric channels at the same time, e.g., horizontal (H) and vertical (V) channels (antennas) sharing the same phase center. The orthogonality of the transmitted waveforms can be realized using low-correlated phase-coded sequences in the H and V channels. However, the Doppler tolerances of the waveforms composed by such coded sequences are usually quite low, and it is hard to meet the requirement of accurate measurement regarding moving targets. In this paper, a joint design approach for unimodular orthogonal complementary sequences along with the optimal receiving filter is proposed based on the majorization–minimization (MM) method via alternate iteration for obtaining simultaneously polarimetric waveforms (SPWs) of good orthogonality and of the desired AF. During design, the objective function used for minimizing the sum of the complementary integration sidelobe level (CISL) and the complementary integration isolation level (CIIL) is constructed under the mismatch constraint of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) loss. Different SPW examples are given to show the superior performance of our design in comparison with other designs. Recently, the problem of target detection in noisy environments for the Dual-Functional Radar Communication (DFRC) integration system has been a hot topic. In this paper, to suppress the noise and further enhance the target detection performance, a novel manifold Riemannian Improved Armijo Search Conjugate Gradient algorithm (RIASCG) framework has been proposed which jointly optimizes the integrated transmitting waveform and receiving filter. Therein, the reference waveform is first designed to achieve excellent pattern matching of radar beamforming. Furthermore, to ensure the quality of system information transmission, the energy of multi-user interference (MUI) of communication signals is incorporated as the constraint. Additionally, the typical similarity constraint is introduced to ensure the transmitting waveform with a good ambiguity function. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the designed waveform not only enhances the system's target detection performance in noisy environments but also achieves a relatively good multi-user communication ability when compared with other prevalent waveforms. Ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) through-wall radar is widely used in through-wall human target detection for its good penetration characteristics and resolution. However, in actual detection scenarios, weak target masking and adjacent target unresolving will occur in through-wall imaging due to factors such as resolution limitations and differences in human reflectance, which will reduce the probability of target detection. An improved U-Net model is proposed in this paper to improve the detection probability of through-wall targets. In the proposed detection method, a ResNet module and a squeeze-and-excitation (SE) module are integrated in the traditional U-Net model. The ResNet module can reduce the difficulty of feature learning and improve the accuracy of detection. The SE module allows the network to perform feature recalibration and learn to use global information to emphasize useful features selectively and suppress less useful features. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified via simulations and experiments. Compared with the order statistics constant false alarm rate (OS-CFAR), the fully convolutional networks (FCN) and the traditional U-Net, the proposed method can detect through-wall weak targets and adjacent unresolving targets effectively. Low-altitude slow-moving small (LSS) targets are defined as flying at altitudes less than 1000 m with speeds less than 55 m/s and a radar crossing-section (RCS) less than 2 m 2 . The detection performance of ground-based radar using the LSS target detection technique can be significantly deteriorated by the diversity of LSS targets, background clutter, and the occurrence of false alarms caused by multipath interference. To address the LSS target detection problem, we have devised a novel two-dimensional electronic scanning active phased array radar system that is implemented in the software-defined radar architecture and propose a transmit beam control algorithm based on the low peak-to-average ratio (PAPR). Meanwhile, we devised a flexible arbitrary radar waveform generator to adapt to complex environmental situations. Field experiment results effectively demonstrate that our radar can be used to detect LSS targets. Moreover, an ablation experiment was conducted to verify the role played by transmit beam control and adaptive waveform optimization and generation in improving the system performance. In this paper, we design constant modulus waveforms for dual-function radar-communication (DFRC) systems based on a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) configuration of sensors for a far-field scenario. At first, we formulate a non-convex optimization problem subject to waveform synthesis for minimizing the interference power while maintaining a constant modulus constraint. Next, we solve this non-convex problem, iteratively, using the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm. Importantly, the designed waveforms approximate a desired beampattern in terms of a high-gain radar beam and a slightly high gain communication beam while maintaining a desired low sidelobe level. The designed waveforms ensure an improved detection probability and an improved bit error rate (BER) for radar and communications parts, respectively. The number of vehicles equipped with radars on the road has been increasing for years and is expected to reach 50% of cars by 2030. This rapid rise in radars will likely increase the risk of harmful interference, especially since radar specifications from standardization bodies (e.g., ETSI) provide requirements in terms of maximum transmit power but do no mandate specific radar waveform parameters nor channel access scheme policies. Techniques for interference mitigation are thus becoming very important to ensure the long-term correct operation of radars and upper-layer ADAS systems that depend on them in this complex environment. In our previous work, we have shown that organizing the radar band into time-frequency resources that do not interfere with each other vastly reduces the amount of interference by facilitating band sharing. In this paper, a metaheuristic is presented to find the optimal resource sharing between radars, knowing their relative positions and thereby the line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight interference risks during a realistic scenario. The metaheuristic aims at optimally minimizing interference while minimizing the number of resource changes that radars have to make. It is a centralized approach where everything about the system is known (e.g., the past and future positions of the vehicles). This and the high computational load induce that this algorithm is not meant to be used in real-time. However, the metaheuristic approach can be extremely useful for finding near optimal solutions in simulations, allowing for the extraction of efficient patterns, or as data generation for machine learning. In the electronic warfare environment, the performance of ground-based radar target search is seriously degraded due to the existence of smeared spectrum (SMSP) jamming. SMSP jamming is generated by the self-defense jammer on the platform, playing an important role in electronic warfare, making traditional radars based on linear frequency modulation (LFM) waveforms face great challenges in searching for targets. To solve this problem, an SMSP mainlobe jamming suppression method based on a frequency diverse array (FDA) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is proposed. The proposed method first uses the maximum entropy algorithm to estimate the target angle and eliminate the interference signals from the sidelobe. Then, the range-angle dependence of the FDA-MIMO radar signal is utilized, and the blind source separation (BSS) algorithm is used to separate the mainlobe interference signal and the target signal, avoiding the impact of mainlobe interference on target search. The simulation verifies that the target echo signal can be effectively separated, the similarity coefficient can reach more than 90% and the detection probability of the radar is significantly enhanced at a low signal-to-noise ratio. The problem of suppressing mainlobe deceptive jammers, which spoof radar systems by generating multiple false targets, has attracted widespread attention. To tackle this problem, in this paper, the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar system was utilized by applying a quadratic element phase code (QEPC) to the transmitted pulses of different elements. In the receiver, by utilizing the spatial frequency and Doppler frequency offset generated after decoding, the jammers were equivalently distributed in the sidelobes of the joint Doppler-transmit-receive domain and were distinguishable from the true target. Then, further spatial frequency compensation and Doppler compensation were performed to align the true target to the zero point in the transmit spatial and Doppler domains. Moreover, by designing appropriate coding coefficients, the jammers were suppressed by data-independent Doppler-transmit-receive three-dimensional beamforming. However, the beamforming performance was sensitive to angular estimation mismatches, resulting in performance degradation of jammer suppression. X-band dual-polarization phased array radar (XPAR-D) possesses high resolution and plays a significant role in detecting meso- and micro-scale convective systems. However, the precipitation attenuation it endures necessitates an effective correction method. This study selected radar data from XPAR-D at the peak of Maofeng Mountain in Guangzhou during 16–17 May 2020 from three precipitation stages after quality control. Attenuation coefficients were calculated for different precipitation types through scattering simulations of raindrop size distribution (RSD) data. Next, an attenuation correction algorithm (MZH-KDP method) was proposed for the radar reflectivity factor (ZH) according to different raindrop types and compared to the ZH-KDP method currently in use. The results indicate that the attenuation amount of XPAR-D echoes depends on the attenuation path and echo intensity. When the attenuation path is shorter and the echo intensity is weaker, the amount of attenuation and correction is smaller. Difficulties arise when there are noticeable deviations, which are challenging to resolve using attenuation correction methods. Longer attenuation paths and stronger echoes highlight the advantages of the MZH-KDP method, while the ZH-KDP method tends to overcorrect the bias. The MZH-KDP method outperforms the ZH-KDP method for different precipitation types. Space-time adaptive processing (STAP) is an important method of clutter suppression that requires adequate training samples. For an airborne conformal array radar, conventional STAP methods do not have enough training samples to acquire good performance due to the range dependent clutter caused by geometry and the problem of polarization. Sparse-recovery-based STAP (SR-STAP) methods have garnered significant attention in the past few decades because they only require a small number of training samples. Sparse Bayesian Learning (SBL) methods have seen increasing amounts of development due to its robust, self-regularizing nature and because it is not sensitive to user parameters, but it converges slowly. In this paper, a novel fast SBL (NFSBL) method is put forward to increase the rate of convergence. To minimize the SBL penalty function, the proposed method introduces the conjugate function to construct a surrogate function. Additional solution sparsity will be achieved through iteratively minimizing the surrogate function. Then, from the proposed method, we could obtain a more accurate clutter plus noise covariance matrix. Numerical simulation results express that this method could acquire better performance of STAP and improvement in convergence and computational complexity for a conformal array. This paper investigates the design of waveforms for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems that can exploit multipath returns to enhance target detection performance. By making reasonable use of multipath information in the waveform design, MIMO radar can effectively improve the signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) of the receiver under a constant modulus (CM) constraint. However, optimizing the waveform design under these constraints is a challenging non-linear and non-convex problem that cannot be easily solved using traditional methods. To overcome this challenge, we proposed a novel waveform design method for MIMO radar in multipath scenarios based on deep learning. Specifically, we leveraged the powerful nonlinear fitting ability of neural networks to solve the non-convex optimization problem. First, we constructed a deep residual network and transform the CM constraint into a phase sequence optimization problem. Next, we used the constructed waveform optimization design problem as the loss function of the network. Finally, we used the adaptive moment estimation (Adam) optimizer to train the network. Automotive radar pursues low cost and high performance, and especially hopes to improve the angular resolution under the condition of a limited number of multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) radar channels. Conventional time division multiplexing (TDM) MIMO technology has a limited ability to improve the angular resolution without increasing the number of channels. In this paper, a random time division multiplexing MIMO radar is proposed. First, the non-uniform linear array (NULA) and random time division transmission mechanism are combined in the MIMO system, and then a three-order sparse receiving tensor of a range-virtual aperture-pulse sequence is obtained during echo receiving. Next, this sparse three-order receiving tensor is recovered by using tensor completion technology. Multitarget positioning technology, such as FMCW millimeter-wave radar, has broad application prospects in autonomous driving and related mobile scenarios. However, it is difficult for existing correlation algorithms to balance high resolution and low complexity, and it is also difficult to ensure the robustness of the positioning algorithm using an aging antenna. This paper proposes a super-resolution and low-complexity positioning algorithm based on the orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm that can achieve more accurate distance and angle estimation for multiple objects in a low-SNR environment. The algorithm proposed in this paper improves the resolving power by two and one orders of magnitude, respectively, compared to the classical FFT and MUSIC algorithms in the same signal-to-noise environment, and the complexity of the algorithm can be reduced by about 25–30%, with the same resolving power as the OMP algorithm. Based on the positioning algorithm proposed in our paper, we use the PSO algorithm to optimize the arrangement of an aging antenna array so that its angle estimation accuracy is equivalent to that observed when the antenna is intact, improving the positioning algorithm's robustness. This paper also further realizes the use of the proposed algorithm and a single-frame intermediate frequency signal to estimate the position angle information of the object and obtain its motion trajectory and velocity, verifying the proposed algorithm's estimation ability when it comes to these qualities in a moving scene. Colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar can transmit a group of distinct waveforms via its colocated transmit antennas and the waveform diversity leads to several advantages in contrast to conventional phased-array radar. The performance depends highly on the degrees available, and element spacing can be deemed as another source of degrees of freedom. In this paper, we study the joint waveform and element spacing optimization problem. A joint waveform and array optimization criterion is proposed to match the transmit beampattern, the suppression range, and the angular sidelobes, under the constraints of minimal element spacing and total array aperture. Meanwhile, the effect of receive beamforming on suppressing mutual correlation between returns from different spatial directions is also incorporated into the optimization criterion. The optimization problem is solved by the sequential quadratic programming algorithm. Numerical results indicate that with more degrees of freedom from array spacings, colocated MIMO radar achieves a better transmit beampattern matching performance and a lower sidelobe level, compared with a fixed half-wavelength spaced array, but the benefits from additional degrees of freedom from array spacing optimization have a limit. A joint radar-communication (JRC) system utilizes the integrated transmit waveform and a single platform to perform radar and communication functions simultaneously. Admittedly, the multibeam waveform design approach could transmit the assigned waveforms in different beams with the aid of spatial and temporal degrees of freedom. However, a high sidelobe level (SLL) in the beampattern reduces energy efficiency and expands exposure probability. In this study, we propose a novel spatial–temporal joint waveform design method based on the beamforming algorithm to form a low SLL beampattern. Waveform synthesis constraints are considered to synthesize desired radar and communication waveforms at designated directions. Furthermore, we impose the constant modulus constraint to lessen the impact of the high peak-to-average ratio (PAPR). The optimization process of the whole model can be summarized as two stages. First, the covariance matrix is created by convex optimization with respect to the minimum SLL. Second, the integrated transmit waveform is tuned through an alternating projection algorithm. Based on the simulation findings, we demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the traditional methods in terms of low SLL and waveform synthesis. The beam pattern of frequency diversity array (FDA) radar has a range–angle two-dimensional degree of freedom, which makes it possible to distinguish different targets from the same angle and brings a new approach to anti-jamming of radars. However, the beam pattern of conventional linearly frequency-biased FDA radar is range–angle-coupled and time-varying. The method of adding nonlinear frequency bias among the array elements of the FDA array has been shown to eliminate this coupling property while still allowing for better beam performance of the emitted beam. In this paper, we obtain a decoupled and time-invariant beam direction map using the FDA-multi-input–multi-output (FDA-MIMO) radar scheme and then obtain a sharp pencil-shaped main sphere beam pattern with range–angle dependence using a linear frequency offset scheme weighted by a Chebyshev window. This paper describes a coherent multi-dwell processing (CMDP) method for high velocity estimation and super-resolution in search and track, while search (TWS) radar modes use an un-conventional signal processing algorithm that exploits multi-dwell transmissions. The existence of the multi-dwell waveform is necessary for visibility needs by un-folding the target's velocity and range ambiguity and is proposed to be utilized for high velocity estimation and super-resolution. In this paper, the proposed scheme is shown to result in improved velocity estimation and doppler resolution performance for un-ambiguous targets in comparison to classical radar processing. The processing concept uses the same transmitted waveform (WF) and time duration without the need to increase the time on target (TOT) through sophisticated coherent concatenation of the received dwells with velocity compensation between the dwells. The phase compensation in receive mode is implemented for each target according to its characteristics, which means that target velocities are estimated in each dwell separately. The notable result of the CMDP is the linear doppler resolution improvement obtained with the given search resources and without knowing the target characteristics in advance or the dwell delay time. Other possible benefits of this process are the ability to achieve larger detection ranges and high-angle measurement precisions in search mode due to the higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the extended dwell and the ability to track more targets due to efficient time and resource management. The joint radar and communications (JRC) waveform often has a high range sidelobe, which will degrade the target detection performance of an automotive JRC system. To solve this problem, a joint radar and communications complementary waveform group (JRC-CWG) design method is proposed in this paper by exploiting the philosophy of the complementary sequence. In the JRC-CWG, the traditional unimodular communications waveforms, such as the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) waveform, are used to perform the communications function. The sum of the autocorrelation function (SACF) of JRC-CWG is optimized to minimize the sidelobe level. Furthermore, considering that the JRC-CWG has poor Doppler resilience, a Doppler-resilient joint radar and communications complementary waveform (DR-JRC-CWG) design method is proposed to improve the Doppler resilience. In this paper, we study the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar transmit waveform design method for beampattern matching. The purpose is to design the beampattern to approximate the actual one and minimize the cross-correlation sidelobes under the constant modulus constraint (CMC). Due to the CMC, the problem is non-convex, and the existing methods solve it with relaxation, resulting in performance degradation. Different from these methods, we notice that the CMC is the product of complex circles (CC). Based on this physical characteristic, the direct beampattern matching without relaxation (DBMWR) method is proposed. To be specific, we first formulate the original problem as an unconstrained quartic problem over the CC and then solve it by the proposed method without relaxation. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar uses waveform diversity technology to form a virtual aperture to improve the azimuth resolution of forward-looking imaging. However, the super-resolution imaging capability of MIMO radar is limited, and the resolution can only be doubled compared with the real aperture. In the radar forward-looking image, compared with the whole imaging scene, the target only occupies a small part. This sparsity of the target distribution provides the feasibility of applying the compressed sensing (CS) method to MIMO radar to further improve the forward-looking imaging resolution. At the same time, the forward-looking imaging method for a MIMO radar based on CS has the ability to perform single snapshot imaging, which avoids the problem of a motion supplement. However, the strong noise in the radar echo poses a challenge to the imaging method based on CS. Inspired by the low-rank properties of the received radar echoes and the generated images, and considering the existing information about sparse target distribution, a forward-looking super-resolution imaging model of a MIMO radar that combines sparse and double low-rank constraints is established to overcome strong noise and achieve robust forward-looking super-resolution imaging. In order to solve the multiple optimization problem, a forward-looking image reconstruction method based on the augmented Lagrangian multiplier (ALM) is proposed within the framework of the alternating direction multiplier method (ADMM). Finally, the results of the simulation and the measurement data show that the proposed method is quite effective at improving the azimuth resolution and robustness of forward-looking radar imaging compared with other existing methods. In recent years, sparse direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar has attracted extensive attention and been extensively studied, especially the method based on the classic least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) estimator. The alternating-direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is an effective method for solving this problem at the cost of introducing an additional user parameter. To avoid introducing an additional user parameter, this paper adopts an equivalent transformation in the form of the generalized SParse Iterative Covariance-based Estimation (qSPICE) cost function to obtain a mean squared minimized form of the cost function. Then, the problem is transformed into a sparse optimization problem in the form of a weighted LASSO. Next, this unconstrained optimization problem is decomposed into three subproblems, which are solved separately to reduce the dimension of each problem and thus reduce the overall computational complexity based on ADMM. Simulation results and measured data indicate that the proposed method significantly outperforms the traditional super-resolution DOA estimation method and ADMM-LASSO method and slightly outperforms qSPICE in terms of resolution and sidelobe suppression capability. Frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radars are widely applied in target localization. However, during the process, the estimation accuracy decreases sharply without considerable signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and sufficient snapshot number. It is therefore necessary to consider estimation schemes that are valid under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and snapshot. In this paper, a fast target localization framework based on multiple deep neural networks named Multi-DeepNet is proposed. In the scheme, multiple interoperating deep networks are employed to achieve accurate target localization in harsh environments. Firstly, we designed a coarse estimate using deep learning to determine the interval where the angle is located. Then, multiple neural networks are designed to realize accurate estimation. After that, the range estimation is determined. Finally, angles and ranges are matched by comparing the Frobenius norm. A Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar can provide a range-angle map that expresses the signal power against each range and angle. It is possible to estimate object locations by detecting the signal power that exceeds a threshold using an algorithm, such as Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR). However, noise and multipath components often exist over the range-angle map, which could produce false alarms for an undesired location depending on the threshold setting. In other words, the threshold setting is sensitive in noisy range-angle maps. Therefore, if the noise is reduced, the threshold can be easily set to reduce the number of false alarms. In this paper, we propose a method that improves the CFAR threshold tolerance by denoising a range-angle map using Deep Image Prior (DIP). DIP is an unsupervised deep-learning technique that enables image denoising. In the proposed method, DIP is applied to the range-angle map calculated by the Curve-Length (CL) method, and then the object location is detected over the denoised range-angle map based on Cell-Averaging CFAR (CA-CFAR), which is a typical threshold setting algorithm. Through the experiments to estimate human locations in indoor environments, we confirmed that the proposed method with DIP reduced the number of false alarms and estimated the human location accurately while improving the tolerance of the threshold setting, compared to the method without DIP. The detection of low, slow and small (LSS) targets, such as small drones, is a developing area of research in radar, wherein the presence of ground clutter can be quite challenging. LSS targets, because of their unusual flying mode, can be easily shadowed by ground clutter, leading to poor radar detection performance. In this study, we investigated the feasibility and performance of a ground clutter mitigation method combining slow-time multiple-input multiple-output (st-MIMO) waveforms and independent component analysis (ICA) in a ground-based MIMO radar focusing on LSS target detection. The modeling of ground clutter under the framework of st-MIMO was first defined. Combining the spatial and temporal steering vector of st-MIMO, a universal signal model including the target, ground clutter, and noise was established. The compliance of the signal model for conducting ICA to separate the target was analyzed. Based on this, a st-MIMO-ICA processing scheme was proposed to mitigate ground clutter. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified with simulation and experimental data collected from an S-band st-MIMO radar system with a desirable target output signal-to-clutter-plus-noise ratio (SCNR). Owing to cognitive radar breaking the open-loop receiving–transmitting mode of traditional radar, adaptive waveform design for cognitive radar has become a central issue in radar system research. In this paper, the method of radar transmitted waveform design in the presence of clutter is studied. Since exact characterizations of the target and clutter spectra are uncommon in practice, a single-robust transmitted waveform design method is introduced to solve the problem of the imprecise target spectrum or the imprecise clutter spectrum. Furthermore, considering that radar cannot simultaneously obtain precise target and clutter spectra, a novel double-robust transmitted waveform design method is proposed. In this method, the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio and mutual information are used as the objective functions, and the optimization models for the double-robust waveform are established under the transmitted energy constraint. The Lagrange multiplier method was used to solve the optimal double-robust transmitted waveform. The simulation results show that the double-robust transmitted waveform can maximize SINR and MI in the worst case; the performance of SINR and MI will degrade if other transmitted waveforms are employed in the radar system. In this paper, the problem of mainlobe deceptive jammer suppression is solved with the frequency diversity array-multiple-input multiple-output (FDA-MIMO) radar system. At the modeling stage, based on the FDA-MIMO radar, a quadratic phase code (QPC) is applied along the slow time dimension in the transmit array. In the receiver, after decoding and principal range compensation, the true and false targets that are generated in an identical angle, can be discriminated in the joint transmit-receive-Doppler frequency domain. Particularly, the false targets are equivalently moved from the mainlobe to the sidelobes in the transmit spatial frequency domain. Then, by performing the data-dependent transmit-receive-Doppler three-dimensional beamforming, the false targets are suppressed owing to Doppler and range mismatches. Moreover, by moving the jammers to nulls in the Doppler frequency domain, the capability in terms of the maximum number of suppressible jammers can be strengthened with an appropriate coding coefficient and frequency increment. The ground and sea clutter received by space-based early warning radar (SBEWR) has severely range ambiguous characteristics due to its platform location, and the non-stationary factor caused by Earth's rotation makes the received clutter at different range ambiguous positions seriously broaden in the Doppler dimension. The complex clutter suppression performance of SBEWR obtained by traditional method is degraded significantly. To solve this problem and achieve better clutter suppression performance, a novel multi-domain adaptive processing method for clutter suppression is proposed in this paper. The proposed method introduced a range related signal processing domain based on conventional space–time domain by using frequency diverse array phase multiple-input multiple-output (FDA-Phase-MIMO) radar. In addition, a novel multi-domain joint dimensionality reduction structure was designed. In this paper, the design of low probability of intercept (LPI) radar waveforms considers not only the performance of passive interception systems (PISs), but also radar detection and resolution performance. Waveform design is an important considerations for the LPI ability of radar. Since information theory has a powerful performance-bound description ability from the perspective of information flow, LPI waveforms are designed in this paper within the constraints of the detection performance metrics of radar and PISs, both of which are measured by the Kullback–Leibler divergence, and the resolution performance metric, which is measured by joint entropy. The designed optimization model of LPI waveforms can be solved using the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method. Simulation results verify that the designed LPI waveforms not only have satisfactory target-detecting and resolution performance, but also have a superior low interception performance against PISs. With the development of intelligent transportation, radar and communication on moving platforms are competing for the spectrum. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a new algorithmic framework for radar-communication spectral coexistence system on moving platform with mutual interference suppression, in which communication rate and the radar signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) are simultaneously optimized, under the energy constraints for the two systems and the radar constant modulus constraint. The radar spatial-temporal filter at the receiver and transmitting waveform are optimized, while the codebook matrix is optimized for the communication system. To cope with the established non-convex problem with triplet variables, we decouple the original problem into multiple subproblems, for which an alternating algorithm based on iterative procedures is derived with lower computational complexity. Specifically, the subproblems of communication codebook and radar filter design are convex and the closed-form solutions can be easily obtained, while the radar waveform optimization is non-convex. Then we propose a novel scheme by exploiting the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) based on minorization-maximization (MM) framework. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging is starting to play an essential role in the automotive industry. Its day and night sensing capability, fine resolution, and high flexibility are key aspects making SAR a very compelling instrument in this field. This paper describes and compares three algorithms used to combine low-resolution images acquired by a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) automotive radar to form an SAR image of the environment. The first is the well-known Fast Factorized Back-Projection (FFBP), which focuses the image in different stages. The second one will be called 3D2D, and it is a simple 3D interpolation used to extract the SAR image from the Range-Angle-Velocity (RAV) data cube. The third will be called Quick&Dirty (Q&D), and it is a fast alternative to the 3D2D scheme that exploits the same intuition. A rigorous mathematical description of each algorithm is derived, and their limits are addressed. We then provide simulated results assessing different interpolation kernels, proving which one performs better. A rough estimation of the number of operations proves that both algorithms can be deployed using a real-time implementation. Finally, we will present some experimental results based on open road campaign data acquired using an eight-channel MIMO radar at 77 GHz, considering the case of a forward-looking geometry. Integrated radar and communications (IRC) technology has become very important for civil and military applications in recent years, and IRC waveform design is a major challenge for IRC development. In this paper, we focus on the IRC waveform design based on the multi-symbol orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique. In view of the defects resulting from high peak-to-mean envelope power ratios (PMEPRs) and high range sidelobes in IRC systems, an intelligent and effective IRC waveform design method jointly optimized with the PMEPR and peak-to-sidelobe ratio (PSLR) is proposed. Firstly, a flexible tone reservation (TR)-based IRC waveform structure is applied in both temporal and frequency domains, i.e., multi-symbol OFDM waveform. Secondly, the optimization problem considering PMEPR and PSLR and extending them to the L p -norm form is reformulated. Then, the conjugate gradient of the objective function is analytically derived and the conjugate gradient algorithm (CGA) is presented to simultaneously improve the PMEPR and PSLR. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently generate IRC waveforms with an excellent PMEPR, PSLR, radar signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and bit error rate (BER) performance. In order to increase the accuracy of ocean monitoring, this paper proposes an improved adaptive median filtering algorithm based on the tangential interference ratio to better suppress marine radar co-channel interference. To solve the problem that co-channel interference reduces the accuracy of radar images' parameter extraction, this paper constructs a tangential interference ratio model based on the improved Laplace operator, which is used to describe the ratio of co-channel interference along the antenna rotation direction in the original radar image. Based on the idea of between-class variance, the tangential interference ratio threshold is selected to divide co-channel interference into high-ratio regions and low ones. Moreover, an improved adaptive median filter is used to process regions of high ratio based on the median of sub-windows, while that of low-ratio regions is processed by the adaptive median filter based on the median of current windows. Radar-measured data from Bohai Bay, China are used for algorithm validation and experimental results show that the proposed filtering algorithm performs better than the adaptive median filtering algorithm. Multi-target tracking (MTT) generally needs either a Doppler radar network with spatially separated receivers or a single radar equipped with costly phased array antennas. However, Doppler radar networks have high computational complexity, attributed to the multiple receivers in the network. Moreover, array signal processing techniques for phased array radar also increase the computational burden on the processing unit. To resolve this issue, this paper investigates the problem of the detection and tracking of multiple targets in a three-dimensional (3D) Cartesian space based on range and 3D velocity measurements extracted from dual-orthogonal baseline interferometric radar. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First, a nonlinear 3D velocity measurement function, defining the relationship between the state of the target and 3D velocity measurements, is derived. Based on this measurement function, the design of the proposed algorithm includes the global nearest neighbor (GNN) technique for data association, an interacting multiple model estimator with a square-root cubature Kalman filter (IMM-SCKF) for state estimation, and a rule-based M/N logic for track management. Second, Monte Carlo simulation results for different multi-target scenarios are presented to demonstrate the performance of the algorithm in terms of track accuracy, computational complexity, and IMM mean model probabilities. The design of conical frustum phased array antennas for air traffic control (ATC) radar systems is addressed. The array architecture, which is controlled by a fully digital beam-forming (DBF) network, is composed by a set of equal vertical modules. Each module consists of a linear sparse array that generates on receive multiple instantaneous beams pointing along different directions in elevation. To reach the best trade-off between the antenna complexity (i.e., minimum number of array elements and/or radio frequency components) and radiation performance (i.e., matching a set of reference patterns), the synthesis problem is formulated in the Compressive Sampling (CS) framework. Then, the positions of the array elements and the complex excitations for generating each single beam are jointly determined through a customized version of the Bayesian CS (BCS) tool. Representative numerical results, concerned with ideal as well as real antenna models, are reported both to validate the proposed design strategy and to assess the effectiveness of the synthesized modular sparse array architecture also in comparison with conventional arrays with uniformly-spaced elements.
