With the proliferation of the Internet, network complexities for both commercial and state organizations have significantly increased, leading to more sophisticated and harder-to-detect network attacks. This evolution poses substantial challenges for intrusion detection systems, threatening the cybersecurity of organizations and national infrastructure alike. Although numerous deep learning techniques such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and graph neural networks (GNNs) have been applied to detect various network attacks, they face limitations due to the lack of standardized input data, affecting model accuracy and performance. This paper proposes a novel preprocessing method for flow data from network intrusion detection systems (NIDSs), enhancing the efficacy of a graph neural network model in malicious flow detection. Our approach initializes graph nodes with data derived from flow features and constructs graph edges through the analysis of IP relationships within the system. Additionally, we propose a new graph model based on the combination of the graph neural network (GCN) model and SAGEConv, a variant of the GraphSAGE model. The proposed model leverages the strengths while addressing the limitations encountered by the previous models. Evaluations on two IDS datasets, CICIDS-2017 and UNSW-NB15, demonstrate that our model outperforms existing methods, offering a significant advancement in the detection of network threats. Understanding road conditions is essential for implementing effective road safety measures and driving solutions. Road situations encompass the day-to-day conditions of roads, including the presence of vehicles and pedestrians. Surveillance cameras strategically placed along streets have been instrumental in monitoring road situations and providing valuable information on pedestrians, moving vehicles, and objects within road environments. However, these video data and information are stored in large volumes, making analysis tedious and time-consuming. Deep learning models are increasingly utilized to monitor vehicles and identify and evaluate road and driving comfort situations. However, the current neural network model requires the recognition of situations using time-series video data. In this paper, we introduced a multi-directional detection model for road situations to uphold high accuracy. Deep learning methods often integrate long short-term memory (LSTM) into long-term recurrent network architectures. This approach effectively combines recurrent neural networks to capture temporal dependencies and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to extract features from extensive video data. In our proposed method, we form a multi-directional long-term recurrent convolutional network approach with two groups equipped with CNN and two layers of LSTM. Additionally, we compare road situation recognition using convolutional neural networks, long short-term networks, and long-term recurrent convolutional networks. The paper presents a method for detecting and recognizing multi-directional road contexts using a modified LRCN. After balancing the dataset through data augmentation, the number of video files increased, resulting in our model achieving 91% accuracy, a significant improvement from the original dataset. Relation extraction is an important task in natural language processing. It plays an integral role in intelligent question-and-answer systems, semantic search, and knowledge graph work. For this task, previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and long short-term memory networks (LSTMs) in relational classification tasks. Recently, due to the superior performance of the pre-trained model BERT, BERT has become a feature extraction module for many relational classification models, and good results have been achieved in work related to BERT. However, most of such work uses the deepest levels of features. The important role of shallow-level information in the relational classification task is ignored. Based on the above problems, a relationship classification network FA-RCNet (fusion-attention relationship classification network) with feature fusion and attention mechanism is proposed in this paper. FA-RCNet fuses shallow-level features with deep-level features, and augments entity features and global features by the attention module so that the feature vector can perform the relational classification task more perfectly. Obtaining accurate and timely crop area information is crucial for crop yield estimates and food security. Because most existing crop mapping models based on remote sensing data have poor generalizability, they cannot be rapidly deployed for crop identification tasks in different regions. Based on a priori knowledge of phenology, we designed an off-center Bayesian deep learning remote sensing crop classification method that can highlight phenological features, combined with an attention mechanism and residual connectivity. In this paper, we first optimize the input image and input features based on a phenology analysis. Then, a convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), and random forest classifier (RFC) were built based on farm data in northeastern Inner Mongolia and applied to perform comparisons with the method proposed here. Then, classification tests were performed on soybean, maize, and rice from four measurement areas in northeastern China to verify the accuracy of the above methods. To further explore the reliability of the method proposed in this paper, an uncertainty analysis was conducted by Bayesian deep learning to analyze the model's learning process and model structure for interpretability. Finally, statistical data collected in Suibin County, Heilongjiang Province, over many years, and Shandong Province in 2020 were used as reference data to verify the applicability of the methods. The experimental results show that the classification accuracy of the three crops reached 90.73% overall and the average F1 and IOU were 89.57% and 81.48%, respectively. Earthquake Disaster Assessment (EDA) plays a critical role in earthquake disaster prevention, evacuation, and rescue efforts. Deep learning (DL), which boasts advantages in image processing, signal recognition, and object detection, has facilitated scientific research in EDA. This paper analyses 204 articles through a systematic literature review to investigate the status quo, development, and challenges of DL for EDA. The paper first examines the distribution characteristics and trends of the two categories of EDA assessment objects, including earthquakes and secondary disasters as disaster objects, buildings, infrastructure, and areas as physical objects. Next, this study analyses the application distribution, advantages, and disadvantages of the three types of data (remote sensing data, seismic data, and social media data) mainly involved in these studies. Furthermore, the review identifies the characteristics and application of six commonly used DL models in EDA, including convolutional neural network (CNN), multi-layer perceptron (MLP), recurrent neural network (RNN), generative adversarial network (GAN), transfer learning (TL), and hybrid models. The paper also systematically details the application of DL for EDA at different times (i.e., pre-earthquake stage, during-earthquake stage, post-earthquake stage, and multi-stage). We find that the most extensive research in this field involves using CNNs for image classification to detect and assess building damage resulting from earthquakes. Finally, the paper discusses challenges related to training data and DL models, and identifies opportunities in new data sources, multimodal DL, and new concepts. In the field of behavioral detection, deep learning has been extensively utilized. For example, deep learning models have been utilized to detect and classify malware. Deep learning, however, has vulnerabilities that can be exploited with crafted inputs, resulting in malicious files being misclassified. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) may be compromised by malicious files, which can have catastrophic consequences. This paper presents a method for classifying Windows portable executables (PEs) using Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). To generate malware executable adversarial examples of PE, we conduct two white-box attacks, Jacobian-based Saliency Map Attack (JSMA) and Carlini and Wagner attack (C&W). An adversarial payload was injected into the DOS header, and a section was added to the file to preserve the PE functionality. The attacks successfully evaded the CNN model with a 91% evasion rate, whereas the RNN model evaded attacks at an 84.6% rate. Two defense mechanisms based on distillation and training techniques are examined in this study for overcoming adversarial example challenges. Distillation and training against JSMA resulted in the highest reductions in the evasion rates of 48.1% and 41.49%, respectively. Based on the original deep network architecture, this paper replaces the deep integrated network by integrating shallow FastText, a bidirectional gated recurrent unit (GRU) network and the convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In FastText, word embedding, 2-grams and 3-grams are combined to extract text features. In recurrent neural networks (RNNs), a bidirectional GRU network is used to lessen information loss during the process of transmission. In CNNs, text features are extracted using various convolutional kernel sizes. Additionally, three optimization algorithms are utilized to improve the classification capabilities of each network architecture. Deep learning (DL) has brought new perspectives and methods to automatic modulation recognition (AMR), enabling AMR systems to operate more efficiently and reliably in modern wireless communication environments through its powerful feature learning and complex pattern recognition capabilities. However, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs), which are used for sequence recognition tasks, face two main challenges, respectively: the ineffective utilization of global information and slow processing speeds due to sequential operations. To address these issues, this paper introduces CTRNet, a novel automatic modulation recognition network that combines a CNN with Transformer. This combination leverages Transformer's ability to adequately capture the long-distance dependencies between global sequences and its advantages in sequence modeling, along with the CNN's capability to extract features from local feature regions of signals. During the data preprocessing stage, the original IQ-modulated signals undergo sliding-window processing. By selecting the appropriate window sizes and strides, multiple subsequences are formed, enabling the network to effectively handle complex modulation patterns. In the embedding module, token vectors are designed to integrate information from multiple samples within each window, enhancing the model's understanding and modeling ability of global information. In the feedforward neural network, a more effective Bilinear layer is employed for processing to capture the higher-order relationship between input features, thereby enhancing the ability of the model to capture complex patterns. Experiments conducted on the RML2016.10A public dataset demonstrate that compared with the existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm not only exhibits significant advantages in terms of parameter efficiency but also achieves higher recognition accuracy under various signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. Short-term load forecasting is a challenging research problem and has a tremendous impact on electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. A robust forecasting algorithm can help power system operators to better tackle the ever-changing electric power demand. This paper presents a novel deep neural network for short-term electric load forecasting for the St. John's campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). The electric load data are obtained from the Memorial University of Newfoundland and combined with metrological data from St. John's. This dataset is used to formulate a multivariate time-series forecasting problem. A novel deep learning algorithm is presented, consisting of a 1D Convolutional Neural Network, which is followed by an encoder–decoder-based network with attention. The input used for this model is the electric load consumption and metrological data, while the output is the hourly prediction of the next day. The model is compared with Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM)-based Recurrent Neural Network. A CNN-based encoder–decoder model without attention is also tested. The proposed model shows a lower mean absolute error (MAE), mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and higher R2 score. A significant portion of this data revolve around consumers' perceptions and opinions regarding the goods or services of organizations, making it valuable for market intelligence collectors in marketing, customer relationship management, and customer retention. Sentiment analysis serves as a tool for examining customer sentiment, marketing initiatives, and product appraisals. Nowadays, technology allows people to connect and communicate with each other even from miles away, no matter the distance. With the increased use of social networks that were rapidly adopted in human beings' lives, they can chat and share different media files. While the intent for which they have been created may be positive, they can be abused and utilized in a negative way. One form in which they can be maliciously used is represented by cyberbullying. This is a form of bullying where an aggressor shares, posts, or sends false, harmful, or negative content about someone else by electronic means. In this paper, we propose a solution for bullying detection in GIFs. We employ a hybrid architecture that comprises a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and three Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs). At present, many diseases are diagnosed by computer tomography (CT) image technology, which affects the health of the lives of millions of people. In the process of disease confrontation, it is very important for patients to detect diseases in the early stage by deep learning of 3D CT images. The paper offers a hybrid multi-instance learning model (HLFSRNN-MIL), which hybridizes high-low frequency feature fusion (HLFFF) with sequential recurrent neural network (SRNN) for CT image classification tasks. Firstly, the hybrid model uses Resnet-50 as the deep feature. The main feature of the HLFSRNN-MIL lies in its ability to make full use of the advantages of the HLFFF and SRNN methods to make up for their own weakness; i.e., the HLFFF can extract more targeted feature information to avoid the problem of excessive gradient fluctuation during training, and the SRNN is used to process the time-related sequences before classification. The experimental study of the HLFSRNN-MIL model is on two public CT datasets, namely, the Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) dataset on lung cancer and the China Consortium of Chest CT Image Investigation (CC-CCII) dataset on pneumonia. The experimental results show that the model exhibits better performance and accuracy. On the TCIA dataset, HLFSRNN-MIL with Residual Network (ResNet) as the feature extractor achieves an accuracy (ACC) of 0.992 and an area under curve (AUC) of 0.997. On the CC-CCII dataset, HLFSRNN-MIL achieves an ACC of 0.994 and an AUC of 0.997. Finally, compared with the existing methods, HLFSRNN-MIL has obvious advantages in all aspects. Traditional cuff-based blood pressure measurement methods suffer from issues such as intermittency and applicability, while cuff-less continuous blood pressure estimation techniques are increasingly gaining attention due to their non-invasive and continuous monitoring advantages. In this paper, aiming at the challenges faced by existing cuff-less continuous blood pressure estimation models in terms of accuracy, data requirements, and generalization ability, a series of innovative approaches are proposed. Deep learning techniques are introduced to design an end-to-end blood pressure estimation model with high accuracy, ease of training, and strong generalization ability. To address the insufficient accuracy of traditional neural networks in cuff-less continuous blood pressure estimation, we propose an end-to-end, beat-to-beat blood pressure estimation model that combines the temporal convolutional network (TCN) and convolutional block attention module (CBAM). By enhancing the model's ability to process time series data and focus on key features of photoplethysmography (PPG), the blood pressure estimation accuracy during the resting state is significantly improved. The absolute mean error and standard deviation of systolic blood pressure (SBP) estimation using the algorithm in this chapter on the University of California, Irvine (UCI) physiological signal dataset are 5.3482 mmHg and 8.3410 mmHg, respectively, which are superior to other deep learning models based on convolutional neural network and recurrent neural network architectures. For the advancement of smart grids, solar power generation predictions have become an important research topic. In the case of using traditional modeling methods, excessive computational costs may be incurred and it is difficult for these methods to learn the multi-variable dependencies of the data. Therefore, in this paper, a deep learning model was used to combine convolutional neural networks and long short-term memory recurrent network predictions. This method enables hourly power generation one day into the future. Convolutional neural networks are used to extract the features of multiple time series, while long short-term memory neural networks predict multivariate outcomes simultaneously. In order to obtain more accurate prediction results, we performed feature selection on meteorological features and combined the selected weather features to train the prediction model. We further distinguished sunny- and rainy-day models according to the predicted daily rainfall conditions. In the experiment, it was shown that the method of combining meteorological features further reduced the error. Finally, taking into account the differences in climate conditions between the northern and southern regions of Taiwan, the experimental results of case studies involving multiple regions were evaluated to verify the proposed method. Over the last 20 years, lithium-ion batteries have become widely used in many fields due to their advantages such as ease of use and low cost. However, there are concerns about the lifetime and reliability of these batteries. These concerns can be addressed by obtaining accurate capacity and health information. This paper proposes a method to predict the capacity of lithium-ion batteries with high accuracy. Four key features were extracted from current and voltage data obtained during charge and discharge cycles. To enhance prediction accuracy, the Pearson correlation coefficient between these features and battery capacities was analyzed and eliminations were made for some batteries. Using a genetic algorithm (GA), the parameter optimization of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Backpropagation (BP), and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) algorithms was performed. The parameters that provide the best performance were determined in a shorter time using GA, which includes natural selection and genetic processes instead of a trial-and-error method. The study employed five metrics—Mean Square Error (MSE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Normalized Root Mean Square Error (NRMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Squared Correlation (R2)—to evaluate prediction accuracy. Predictions based on NASA experimental data were compared with the existing literature, demonstrating superior accuracy. Using 100 training data, 68 data predictions were made with a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.1176%. Human behavior is stimulated by the outside world, and the emotional response caused by it is a subjective response expressed by the body. Humans generally behave in common ways, such as lying, sitting, standing, walking, and running. In real life of human beings, there are more and more dangerous behaviors in human beings due to negative emotions in family and work. With the transformation of the information age, human beings can use Industry 4.0 smart devices to realize intelligent behavior monitoring, remote operation, and other means to effectively understand and identify human behavior characteristics. According to the literature survey, researchers at this stage analyze the characteristics of human behavior and cannot achieve the classification learning algorithm of single characteristics and composite characteristics in the process of identifying and judging human behavior. For example, the characteristic analysis of changes in the sitting and sitting process cannot be for classification and identification, and the overall detection rate also needs to be improved. In order to solve this situation, this paper develops an improved machine learning method to identify single and compound features. In this paper, the HATP algorithm is first used for sample collection and learning, which is divided into 12 categories by single and composite features; secondly, the CNN convolutional neural network algorithm dimension, recurrent neural network RNN algorithm, long- and short-term extreme value network LSTM algorithm, and gate control is used. The ring unit GRU algorithm uses the existing algorithm to design the model graph and the existing algorithm for the whole process; thirdly, the machine learning algorithm and the main control algorithm using the proposed fusion feature are used for HATP and human beings under the action of wearable sensors. The output features of each stage of behavior are fused; finally, by using SPSS data analysis and re-optimization of the fusion feature algorithm, the detection mechanism achieves an overall target sample recognition rate of about 83.6%. Total electron content (TEC) is a vital parameter for describing the state of the ionosphere, and precise prediction of TEC is of great significance for improving the accuracy of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). At present, most deep learning prediction models just consider TEC temporal variation, while ignoring the impact of spatial location. In this paper, we propose a TEC prediction model, ED-ConvLSTM, which combines convolutional neural networks with recurrent neural networks to simultaneously consider spatiotemporal features. Our ED-ConvLSTM model is built based on the encoder-decoder architecture, which includes two modules: encoder module and decoder module. Each module is composed of ConvLSTM cells. The encoder module is used to extract the spatiotemporal features from TEC maps, while the decoder module converts spatiotemporal features into predicted TEC maps. We compared the predictive performance of our model with two traditional time series models: LSTM, GRU, a spatiotemporal mode1 ConvGRU, and the TEC daily forecast product C1PG provided by CODE on a total of 135 grid points in East Asia (10°–45°N, 90°–130°E). The experimental results show that the prediction error indicators MAE, RMSE, MAPE, and prediction similarity index SSIM of our model are superior to those of the comparison models in high, normal, and low solar activity years. The paper also analyzed the predictive performance of each model monthly. The experimental results indicate that the predictive performance of each model is influenced by the monthly mean of TEC. The ED-ConvLSTM model proposed in this paper is the least affected and the most stable by the monthly mean of TEC. Additionally, the paper compared the predictive performance of each model during two magnetic storm periods when TEC changes sharply. The results indicate that our ED-ConvLSTM model is least affected during magnetic storms and its predictive performance is superior to those of the comparative models. When a ship sailing on the sea encounters flooding events, quickly predicting the flooding time of the compartments in the damaged area is beneficial to making evacuation decisions and reducing losses. At present, decision-makers obtain flooding data through various sensors arranged on board to predict the time of compartment flooding. These data help with the calculation of the flooding time in emergency situations. This paper proposes a new approach to obtaining the compartment flooding time. Specifically in damage scenarios, based on Convolutional Neural Network and Recurrent Neural Network (CNN-RNN), using a composite neural network framework estimates the time when the compartment's flooding water reaches the target height. The input of the neural network is the flooding images of the damaged compartment. Transfer learning is utilized in the paper. The ResNet18 model in Pytorch is used to extract the spatial information from the flooding images. The Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model is then applied to predict when the compartment flooding water reaches the target height. Experimental results show that, for the damaged compartment, the flooding time predicted by the neural network is 85% accurate while the others' accuracy is more than 91%. Intuitively, when it comes to the actual flooding event, the composite neural network's average prediction error for compartment flooding time is approximately 1 min. Automatic image description, also known as image captioning, aims to describe the elements included in an image and their relationships. This task involves two research fields: computer vision and natural language processing; thus, it has received much attention in computer science. In this review paper, we follow the Kitchenham review methodology to present the most relevant approaches to image description methodologies based on deep learning. We focused on works using convolutional neural networks (CNN) to extract the characteristics of images and recurrent neural networks (RNN) for automatic sentence generation. As a result, 53 research articles using the encoder-decoder approach were selected, focusing only on supervised learning. The main contributions of this systematic review are: (i) to describe the most relevant image description papers implementing an encoder-decoder approach from 2014 to 2022 and (ii) to determine the main architectures, datasets, and metrics that have been applied to image description. Human Pose Estimation (HPE) is the task that aims to predict the location of human joints from images and videos. This task is used in many applications, such as sports analysis and surveillance systems. Recently, several studies have embraced deep learning to enhance the performance of HPE tasks. However, building an efficient HPE model is difficult; many challenges, like crowded scenes and occlusion, must be handled. This paper followed a systematic procedure to review different HPE models comprehensively. About 100 articles published since 2014 on HPE using deep learning were selected using several selection criteria. Both image and video data types of methods were investigated. Furthermore, both single and multiple HPE methods were reviewed. In addition, the available datasets, different loss functions used in HPE, and pretrained feature extraction models were all covered. Our analysis revealed that Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are the most used in HPE. Moreover, occlusion and crowd scenes remain the main problems affecting models' performance. Therefore, the paper presented various solutions to address these issues. The measurement and analysis of vital signs are a subject of significant research interest, particularly for monitoring the driver's physiological state, which is of crucial importance for road safety. Various approaches have been proposed using contact techniques to measure vital signs. However, all of these methods are invasive and cumbersome for the driver. This paper proposes using a non-contact sensor based on continuous wave (CW) radar at 24 GHz to measure vital signs. We associate these measurements with distinct temporal neural networks to analyze the signals to detect and extract heart and respiration rates as well as classify the physiological state of the driver. This approach offers robust performance in estimating the exact values of heart and respiration rates and in classifying the driver's physiological state. It is non-invasive and requires no physical contact with the driver, making it particularly practical and safe. Dysarthric speech has several pathological characteristics, such as discontinuous pronunciation, uncontrolled volume, slow speech, explosive pronunciation, improper pauses, excessive nasal sounds, and air-flow noise during pronunciation, which differ from healthy speech. Automatic speech recognition (ASR) can be very helpful for speakers with dysarthria. Our research aims to provide a scoping review of ASR for dysarthric speech, covering papers in this field from 1990 to 2022. Our survey found that the development of research studies about the acoustic features and acoustic models of dysarthric speech is nearly synchronous. During the 2010s, deep learning technologies were widely applied to improve the performance of ASR systems. In the era of deep learning, many advanced methods (such as convolutional neural networks, deep neural networks, and recurrent neural networks) are being applied to design acoustic models and lexical and language models for dysarthric-speech-recognition tasks. Deep learning methods are also used to extract acoustic features from dysarthric speech. Additionally, this scoping review found that speaker-dependent problems seriously limit the generalization applicability of the acoustic model. The supervision of security risk level of carbofuran pesticide residues can guarantee the food quality and security of residents effectively. In order to predict the potential key risk vegetables and regions, this paper constructs a security risk assessment model, combined with the k-means++ algorithm, to establish the risk security level. Then the evaluation index value of the security risk model is predicted to determine the security risk level based on the deep learning model. The model consists of a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a long short-term memory network (LSTM) optimized by an arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA), namely, CNN-AOA-LSTM. In this paper, a comparative experiment is conducted on a small sample data set of independently constructed security risk assessment indicators. Experimental results show that the accuracy of the CNN-AOA-LSTM prediction model based on attention mechanism is 6.12% to 18.99% higher than several commonly used deep neural network models (gated recurrent unit, LSTM, and recurrent neural networks). The prevalence of internet usage leads to diverse internet traffic, which may contain information about various types of internet attacks. In recent years, many researchers have applied deep learning technology to intrusion detection systems and obtained fairly strong recognition results. However, most experiments have used old datasets, so they could not reflect the latest attack information. In this paper, a current state of the CSE-CIC-IDS2018 dataset and standard evaluation metrics has been employed to evaluate the proposed mechanism. After preprocessing the dataset, six models—deep neural network (DNN), convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), CNN + RNN and CNN + LSTM—were constructed to judge whether network traffic comprised a malicious attack. In addition, multi-classification experiments were conducted to sort traffic into benign traffic and six categories of malicious attacks: BruteForce, Denial-of-service (DoS), Web Attacks, Infiltration, Botnet, and Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS). Each model showed a high accuracy in various experiments, and their multi-class classification accuracy were above 98%. Compared with the intrusion detection system (IDS) of other papers, the proposed model effectively improves the detection performance. Moreover, the inference time for the combinations of CNN + RNN and CNN + LSTM is longer than that of the individual DNN, RNN and CNN. Emotions significantly impact human physical and mental health, and, therefore, emotion recognition has been a popular research area in neuroscience, psychology, and medicine. In this paper, we preprocess the raw signals acquired by millimeter-wave radar to obtain high-quality heartbeat and respiration signals. Then, we propose a deep learning model incorporating a convolutional neural network and gated recurrent unit neural network in combination with human face expression images. The model achieves a recognition accuracy of 84.5% in person-dependent experiments and 74.25% in person-independent experiments. Deep networks-based models have achieved excellent performances in various applications for extracting discriminative feature representations by convolutional neural networks (CNN) or recurrent neural networks (RNN). However, CNN or RNN may not work when handling data without temporal/spatial structures. Therefore, finding a new technique to extract features instead of CNN or RNN is a necessity. Gradient Boosted Decision Trees (GBDT) can select the features with the largest information gain when building trees. In this paper, we propose an architecture based on the ensemble of decision trees and neural network (NN) for multiple machine learning tasks, e.g., classification, regression, and ranking. It can be regarded as an extension of the widely used deep-networks-based model, in which we use GBDT instead of CNN or RNN. This architecture consists of two main parts: (1) the decision forest layers, which focus on learning features from the input data, (2) the fully connected layers, which focus on distilling knowledge from the decision forest layers. Powered by these two parts, the proposed model could handle data without temporal/spatial structures. This model can be efficiently trained by stochastic gradient descent via back-propagation. The applications of deep learning and artificial intelligence have permeated daily life, with time series prediction emerging as a focal area of research due to its significance in data analysis. The evolution of deep learning methods for time series prediction has progressed from the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and the Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) to the recently popularized Transformer network. However, each of these methods has encountered specific issues. Recent studies have questioned the effectiveness of the self-attention mechanism in Transformers for time series prediction, prompting a reevaluation of approaches to LTSF (Long Time Series Forecasting) problems. To circumvent the limitations present in current models, this paper introduces a novel hybrid network, Temporal Convolutional Network-Linear (TCN-Linear), which leverages the temporal prediction capabilities of the Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN) to enhance the capacity of LSTF-Linear. Time series from three classical chaotic systems (Lorenz, Mackey–Glass, and Rossler) and real-world stock data serve as experimental datasets. Accidents due to defective railway lines and derailments are common disasters that are observed frequently in Southeast Asian countries. It is imperative to run proper diagnosis over the detection of such faults to prevent such accidents. However, manual detection of such faults periodically can be both time-consuming and costly. In this paper, we have proposed a Deep Learning (DL)-based algorithm for automatic fault detection in railway tracks, which we termed an Ensembled Convolutional Autoencoder ResNet-based Recurrent Neural Network (ECARRNet). We compared its output with existing DL techniques in the form of several pre-trained DL models to investigate railway tracks and determine whether they are defective or not while considering commonly prevalent faults such as—defects in rails and fasteners. Moreover, we manually collected the images from different railway tracks situated in Bangladesh and made our dataset. After comparing our proposed model with the existing models, we found that our proposed architecture has produced the highest accuracy among all the previously existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) architecture, with an accuracy of 93.28% on the full dataset. Additionally, we split our dataset into two parts having two different types of faults, which are fasteners and rails. We ran the models on those two separate datasets, obtaining accuracies of 98.59% and 92.06% on rail and fastener, respectively. Model explainability techniques like Grad-CAM and LIME were used to validate the result of the models, where our proposed model ECARRNet was seen to correctly classify and detect the regions of faulty railways effectively compared to the previously existing transfer learning models. In recent years, churn rates in industries such as finance have increased, and the cost of acquiring new users is more than five times the cost of retaining existing users. To improve the intelligent prediction accuracy of customer churn rate, artificial intelligence is gradually used. In this paper, the bidirectional long short-term memory convolutional neural network (BiLSTM-CNN) model is integrated with recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in parallel, which well solves the defective problem that RNNs and CNNs run separately, and it also solves the problem that the output results of a long short-term memory network (LSTM) layer in a densely-connected LSTM-CNN (DLCNN) model will ignore some local information when input to the convolutional layer. In order to explore whether the attention bidirectional long short-term memory convolutional neural network (AttnBLSTM-CNN) model can perform better than BiLSTM-CNN, this paper uses bank data to compare the two models. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the AttnBiLSTM-CNN model is improved by 0.2%, the churn rate is improved by 1.3%, the F1 value is improved by 0.0102, and the AUC value is improved by 0.0103 compared with the BLSTM model. Facial emotion recognition (FER) is a computer vision process aimed at detecting and classifying human emotional expressions. Crop classification of large-scale agricultural land is crucial for crop monitoring and yield estimation. Hyperspectral image classification has proven to be an effective method for this task. Most current popular hyperspectral image classification methods are based on image classification, specifically on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and recurrent neural networks (RNNs). In contrast, this paper focuses on methods based on semantic segmentation and proposes a new transformer-based approach called HyperSFormer for crop hyperspectral image classification. The key enhancement of the proposed method is the replacement of the encoder in SegFormer with an improved Swin Transformer while keeping the SegFormer decoder. The entire model adopts a simple and uniform transformer architecture. Additionally, the paper introduces the hyper patch embedding (HPE) module to extract spectral and local spatial information from the hyperspectral images, which enhances the effectiveness of the features used as input for the model. To ensure detailed model processing and achieve end-to-end hyperspectral image classification, the transpose padding upsample (TPU) module is proposed for the model's output. In order to address the problem of insufficient and imbalanced samples in hyperspectral image classification, the paper designs an adaptive min log sampling (AMLS) strategy and a loss function that incorporates dice loss and focal loss to assist model training. Experimental results using three public hyperspectral image datasets demonstrate the strong performance of HyperSFormer, particularly in the presence of imbalanced sample data, complex negative samples, and mixed sample classes. HyperSFormer outperforms state-of-the-art methods, including fast patch-free global learning (FPGA), a spectral–spatial-dependent global learning framework (SSDGL), and SegFormer, by at least 2.7% in the mean intersection over union (mIoU). The accuracy of solar energy forecasting is critical for power system planning, management, and operation in the global electric energy grid. Several factors influence the performance of solar irradiance, such as forecasting horizon, weather classification, and performance evaluation metrics. Therefore, we provide a review paper on deep learning-based solar irradiance forecasting models. Artificial intelligence plays a significant role in traffic-accident detection. Traffic accidents involve a cascade of inadvertent events, making traditional detection approaches challenging. For instance, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based approaches cannot analyze temporal relationships among objects, and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN)-based approaches suffer from low processing speeds and cannot detect traffic accidents simultaneously across multiple frames. Furthermore, these networks dismiss background interference in input video frames. This paper proposes a framework that begins by subtracting the background based on You Only Look Once (YOLOv5), which adaptively reduces background interference when detecting objects. Subsequently, the CNN encoder and Transformer decoder are combined into an end-to-end model to extract the spatial and temporal features between different time points, allowing for a parallel analysis between input video frames. The proposed framework was evaluated on the Car Crash Dataset through a series of comparison and ablation experiments. Our framework was benchmarked against three accident-detection models to evaluate its effectiveness, and the proposed framework demonstrated a superior accuracy of approximately 96%. The results of the ablation experiments indicate that when background subtraction was not incorporated into the proposed framework, the values of all evaluation indicators decreased by approximately 3%. Since the lightweight convolutional neural network EfficientNet was proposed by Google in 2019, the series of models have quickly become very popular due to their superior performance with a small number of parameters. However, the existing convolutional neural network hardware accelerators for EfficientNet still have much room to improve the performance of the depthwise convolution, squeeze-and-excitation module and nonlinear activation functions. In this paper, we first design a reconfigurable register array and computational kernel to accelerate the depthwise convolution. Next, we propose a vector unit to implement the nonlinear activation functions and the scale operation. An exchangeable-sequence dual-computational kernel architecture is proposed to improve the performance and the utilization. In addition, the memory architectures are designed to complete the hardware accelerator for the above computing architecture. Finally, in order to evaluate the performance of the hardware accelerator, the accelerator is implemented based on Xilinx XCVU37P. The results show that the proposed accelerator can work at the main system clock frequency of 300 MHz with the DSP kernel at 600 MHz. The performance of EfficientNet-B3 in our architecture can reach 69.50 FPS and 255.22 GOPS. Compared with the latest EfficientNet-B3 accelerator, which uses the same FPGA development board, the accelerator proposed in this paper can achieve a 1.28-fold improvement of single-core performance and 1.38-fold improvement of performance of each DSP. Accurate and early diagnosis is an emergent demand for the prediction and diagnosis of liver disease. Conventional diagnostic techniques, such as radiological, CT scan, and liver function tests, are often time-consuming and prone to inaccuracies in several cases. An application of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques is an efficient approach to diagnosing diseases in a wide range of medical fields. This type of machine-related learning can handle various tasks, such as image recognition, analysis, and classification, because it helps train large datasets and learns to identify patterns that might not be perceived by humans. This paper is presented here with an evaluation of the performance of various DL models on the estimation and subtyping of liver ailment and prognosis. In this manuscript, we propose a novel approach, termed CNN+LSTM, which is an integration of convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) networks. The results of the study prove that ML and DL can be used to improve the diagnosis and prognosis of liver disease. The CNN+LSTM model achieves a better accuracy of 98.73% compared to other models such as CNN, Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), and LSTM. The incorporation of the proposed CNN+LSTM model has better results in terms of accuracy (98.73%), precision (99%), recall (98%), F1 score (98%), and AUC (Area Under the Curve)-ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) (99%), respectively. Machine learning (ML) algorithms are increasingly applied to structure health monitoring (SHM) problems. However, their application to pile damage detection (PDD) is hindered by the complexity of the problem. A novel multi-sensor pile damage detection (MSPDD) method is proposed in this paper to extend the application of ML algorithms in the automatic identification of PDD. The time-series signals collected by multiple sensors during the pile integrity test are first processed by the traveling wave decomposition (TWD) theory and are then input into a hybrid one-dimensional (1D) convolutional and recurrent neural network. The hybrid neural network can achieve the automatic multi-task identification of pile damage detection based on the time series of MSPDD results. Finally, the analytical solution-based sample set is utilized to evaluate the performance of the proposed hybrid model. The monitoring of the lifetime of cutting tools often faces problems such as life data loss, drift, and distortion. The prediction of the lifetime in this situation is greatly compromised with respect to the accuracy. The recent rise of deep learning, such as Gated Recurrent Unit Units (GRUs), Hidden Markov Models (HMMs), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), Attention networks, and Transformers, has dramatically improved the data problems in tool lifetime prediction, substantially enhancing the accuracy of tool wear prediction. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach known as PCHIP-Enhanced ConvGRU (PECG), which leverages multiple—feature fusion for tool wear prediction. When compared to traditional models such as CNNs, the CNN Block, and GRUs, our method consistently outperformed them across all key performance metrics, with a primary focus on the accuracy. PECG addresses the challenge of missing tool wear measurement data in relation to sensor data. By employing PCHIP interpolation to fill in the gaps in the wear values, we have developed a model that combines the strengths of both CNNs and GRUs with data augmentation. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieved an exceptional relative accuracy of 0.8522, while also exhibiting a Pearson's Correlation Coefficient (PCC) exceeding 0.95. Commercial buildings in hot and humid tropical climates rely significantly on cooling systems to maintain optimal occupant comfort. Furthermore, these individual deep learning techniques are synergistically integrated to create hybrid models, such as CNN-LSTM and Sequence-to-Sequence models. Experiments are conducted to choose the time horizons from the past that can serve as input to the models. In addition, the influence of various categories of input parameters on prediction performance has been assessed. Historical cooling load, calendar features, and outdoor weather parameters are found in decreasing order of influence on prediction accuracy. This research focuses on buildings located in Singapore and presents a comprehensive case study to validate the proposed models and methodologies. The sequence-to-sequence model provided better performance than all the other models. It offered a CV-RMSE of 7.4%, 10%, and 6% for SIT@Dover, SIT@NYP, and the simulated datasets, which were 2.3%, 3%, and 1% less, respectively, than the base Deep Neural Network model. In nuclear power plants, the loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) stands out as the most prevalent and consequential incident. Accurate breach size diagnosis is crucial for the mitigation of LOCAs, and identifying the cause of an accident can prevent catastrophic consequences. Traditional methods mostly focus on combining model algorithms and utilize intricate composite model neural network architectures. However, it is crucial to investigate whether greater complexity necessarily leads to better performance. In addition, the consideration of the impact of dataset construction and data preprocessing on model performance is also needed for model building. This paper proposes a framework named DeepLOCA-Lattice to experiment with different preprocessing approaches to fundamental deep learning models for a comprehensive analysis of the diagnosis of LOCA breach size. The DeepLOCA-Lattice involves data preprocessing via the lattice algorithm and equal-interval partitioning and deep-learning-based models, including the multi-layer perceptron (MLP), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and the transformer model in LOCA breach size diagnosis. After conducting rigorous ablation experiments, we have discovered that even rudimentary foundational models can achieve accuracy rates that exceed 90%. This is a significant improvement when compared to the previous models, which yield an accuracy rate of lower than 50%. The results interestingly demonstrate the superior performance and efficacy of the fundamental deep learning model, with an effective dataset construction approach. It elucidates the presence of a complex interplay among diagnostic scales, sliding window size, and sliding stride. Furthermore, our investigation reveals that the model attains its highest accuracy within the discussed range when utilizing a smaller sliding stride size and a longer sliding window length. Accurate and fine-grained individual air quality index (IAQI) prediction is the basis of air quality index (AQI), which is of great significance for air quality control and human health. Traditional approaches, such as time series, recurrent neural network or graph convolutional network, cannot effectively integrate spatial-temporal and meteorological factors and manage the dynamic edge relationship among scattered monitoring stations. In this paper, a ST-CCN-IAQI model is proposed based on spatial-temporal causal convolution networks. Both the spatial effects of multi-source air pollutants and meteorological factors were considered via spatial attention mechanism. Time-dependent features in the causal convolution network were extracted by stacked dilated convolution and time attention. All the hyper-parameters in ST-CCN-IAQI were tuned by Bayesian optimization. Shanghai air monitoring station data were employed with a series of baselines (AR, MA, ARMA, ANN, SVR, GRU, LSTM and ST-GCN). Final results showed that: (1) For a single station, the RMSE and MAE values of ST-CCN-IAQI were 9.873 and 7.469, decreasing by 24.95% and 16.87% on average, respectively. R2 was 0.917, with an average 5.69% improvement; (2) For all nine stations, the mean RMSE and MAE of ST-CCN-IAQI were 9.849 and 7.527, respectively, and the R2 value was 0.906. (3) Shapley analysis showed PM10, humidity and NO2 were the most influencing factors in ST-CCN-IAQI. The Friedman test, under different resampling, further confirmed the advantage of ST-CCN-IAQI. Due to the particularity of the site selection of hydropower stations, the canyon wind with large fluctuations often occurs during the construction of the hydropower station, which will seriously affect the safety of construction personnel. Especially in the early stage of the construction of the hydropower station, the historical data and information on the canyon wind are scarce. Short-term forecasting of canyon wind speed has become extremely important. The main innovation of this paper is to propose a time series prediction method based on transfer learning. This method can achieve short-term prediction when there are few wind speed sample data, and the model is relatively simple while ensuring the accuracy of prediction. Considering the temporal and nonlinear characteristics of canyon wind speed data, a hybrid transfer learning model based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) and gated recurrent neural network (GRU) is proposed to predict short-term canyon wind speed with fewer observation data. In this method, the time sliding window is used to extract time series from historical wind speed data and temperature data of adjacent cities as the input of the neural network. Next, CNN is used to extract the feature vector from the input, and the feature vector can form time series. Then, the GRU network is used for short-term wind speed prediction by the time series. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves MAE and RMSE by nearly 20%, which will provide new ideas for the application of wind speed forecasting in canyons under complex terrain. A network intrusion detection model that fuses a convolutional neural network and a gated recurrent unit is proposed to address the problems associated with the low accuracy of existing intrusion detection models for the multiple classification of intrusions and low accuracy of class imbalance data detection. In this model, a hybrid sampling algorithm combining Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) and Repeated Edited nearest neighbors (RENN) is used for sample processing to solve the problem of positive and negative sample imbalance in the original dataset. The feature selection is carried out by combining Random Forest algorithm and Pearson correlation analysis to solve the problem of feature redundancy. Then, the spatial features are extracted by using a convolutional neural network, and further extracted by fusing Averagepooling and Maxpooling, using attention mechanism to assign different weights to the features, thus reducing the overhead and improving the model performance. At the same time, a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) is used to extract the long-distance dependent information features to achieve comprehensive and effective feature learning. Finally, a softmax function is used for classification. The proposed intrusion detection model is evaluated based on the UNSW_NB15, NSL-KDD, and CIC-IDS2017 datasets, and the experimental results show that the classification accuracy reaches 86.25%, 99.69%, 99.65%, which are 1.95%, 0.47% and 0.12% higher than that of the same type of CNN-GRU, and can solve the problems of low classification accuracy and class imbalance well. Accurate stock price prediction has an important role in stock investment. Because stock price data are characterized by high frequency, nonlinearity, and long memory, predicting stock prices precisely is challenging. Various forecasting methods have been proposed, from classical time series methods to machine-learning-based methods, such as random forest (RF), recurrent neural network (RNN), convolutional neural network (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks and their variants, etc. Each method can reach a certain level of accuracy but also has its limitations. In this paper, a CNN-BiLSTM-Attention-based model is proposed to boost the accuracy of predicting stock prices and indices. First, the temporal features of sequence data are extracted using a convolutional neural network (CNN) and bi-directional long and short-term memory (BiLSTM) network. Then, an attention mechanism is introduced to fit weight assignments to the information features automatically; and finally, the final prediction results are output through the dense layer. The proposed method was first used to predict the price of the Chinese stock index—the CSI300 index and was found to be more accurate than any of the other three methods—LSTM, CNN-LSTM, CNN-LSTM-Attention. In order to investigate whether the proposed model is robustly effective in predicting stock indices, three other stock indices in China and eight international stock indices were selected to test, and the robust effectiveness of the CNN-BiLSTM-Attention model in predicting stock prices was confirmed. Comparing this method with the LSTM, CNN-LSTM, and CNN-LSTM-Attention models, it is found that the accuracy of stock price prediction is highest using the CNN-BiLSTM-Attention model in almost all cases. The influence of the coupled electroencephalography (EEG) signal in electrooculography (EOG) on EOG-based automatic sleep staging has been ignored. Since the EOG and prefrontal EEG are collected at close range, it is not clear whether EEG couples in EOG or not, and whether or not the EOG signal can achieve good sleep staging results due to its intrinsic characteristics. In this paper, the effect of a coupled EEG signal in an EOG signal on automatic sleep staging is explored. The blind source separation algorithm was used to extract a clean prefrontal EEG signal. Then the raw EOG signal and clean prefrontal EEG signal were processed to obtain EOG signals coupled with different EEG signal contents. Afterwards, the coupled EOG signals were fed into a hierarchical neural network, including a convolutional neural network and recurrent neural network for automatic sleep staging. Finally, an exploration was performed using two public datasets and one clinical dataset. The results showed that using a coupled EOG signal could achieve an accuracy of 80.4%, 81.1%, and 78.9% for the three datasets, slightly better than the accuracy of sleep staging using the EOG signal without coupled EEG. Thus, an appropriate content of coupled EEG signal in an EOG signal improved the sleep staging results. This paper provides an experimental basis for sleep staging with EOG signals. Convolution-based recurrent neural networks and convolutional neural networks have been used extensively in spatiotemporal prediction. However, these methods tend to concentrate on fixed-scale spatiotemporal state transitions and disregard the complexity of spatiotemporal motion. Through statistical analysis, we found that the distribution of the spatiotemporal sequence and the variety of spatiotemporal motion state transitions exhibit some regularity. In light of these statistics and observations, we propose the Multi-scale Spatiotemporal Neural Network (MSSTNet), an end-to-end neural network based on 3D convolution. It can be separated into three major child modules: a distribution feature extraction module, a multi-scale motion state capture module, and a feature decoding module. Furthermore, the MSST unit is designed to model multi-scale spatial and temporal information in the multi-scale motion state capture module. We first conduct the experiments on the MovingMNIST dataset, which is the most commonly used dataset in the field of spatiotemporal prediction, MSSTNet can achieve state-of-the-art results for this dataset, and ablation experiments demonstrate that the MSST unit has positive significance for spatiotemporal prediction. In addition, this paper applies the model to valuable precipitation nowcasting, due to efficiently capturing the multi-scale information of distribution and motion, the new MSSTNet model can predict the real-world radar echo more accurately.
