The article focuses on a study which demonstrated the direct comparison of exposure to non-sinusoidal magnetic fields and magnetic flux density with the limit values for internal current densities in human body. The study also showed the behavior of magnetic field and magnetic field exposure in the vicinity of magnetic field sources. Magnetic field exposure measurements were conducted synchronously with load current measurements. Study authors claim that the measurement system they utilized can be used as alternative for difficult methods.

The article discusses the result of the study concerning the possible biological effects of electric and magnetic fields and the duration of public and occupational exposure to be allowed. The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection expanded their guidelines by taking into account the harmonic components of the magnetic field with phase angles. The study aims to investigate magnetic fields, especially the harmonic components, in electric distribution substations from the public and occupation exposure point of view.
