Automated Vehicles require exhaustive testing in simulation to detect as many safety-critical failures as possible before deployment on public roads. In this work, we focus on the core decision-making component of autonomous robots: their planning algorithm. We introduce a planner testing framework that leverages recent progress in simulating behaviorally diverse traffic participants. Using large scale search, we generate, detect, and characterize dynamic scenarios leading to collisions. In particular, we propose methods to distinguish between unavoidable and avoidable accidents, focusing especially on automatically finding planner-specific defects that must be corrected before deployment. Through experiments in complex multi-agent intersection scenarios, we show that our method can indeed find a wide range of critical planner failures., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

Similarity retrieval method of plasma emission videos using color and luminosity information has been proposed. This paper revises this method to introduce time series similarity. Plasma emission videos are clustered by using several distances proposed and revised in order to categorize them. The soundness of the proposed methods is clarified through the experiment.

In the nuclear fusion experiment, a lot of videos containing plasma emission phenomenon are obtained. It is required to develop the system retrieving similar videos. This paper proposes the color distance and the similarities between shots and videos. Those similarities between shots and videos are calculated by using hash values obtained from frames. The color distance is calculated by using color differences Cb and Cr. From the experimental result, it is clarified that the proposed methods calculating similarities are effective in retrieving similar plasma videos.

A 4K2K 480 fps global-shutter CMOS image sensor has been developed with super 35 mm format. This sensor employs newly developed gain-adaptive column ADCs to attain a dark random noise of 140 µV rms for the full-scale readout of 923 mV. An on-chip online correction of the error between two switchable gains maintains the nonlinearity of output image within 0.18 %. The 16-channel output interfaces with 4.752 Gbps/ch are implemented in 2 diced logic chips stacked on a sensor chip with 38K micro bumps.

Dissimilarity computed from frequency information obtained by applying three-dimensional Fourier transformation to a plasma video has been proposed. This paper defines the evaluation criteria for plasma videos in order to confirm which features the dissimilarity reflects on. To this end, a subjective experiment is conducted. From the experimental result, it becomes clear the dissimilarity reflects on the amount of brightness transition. It is made clear that the amount of brightness transition is inevitable as the characteristic features of plasma videos. It is also shown that the dissimilarity is effective for the specific criterion. For some videos, the dissimilarity may strongly reflect on criteria besides the amount of brightness transition.

Recently, the demands to achieve both high-speed and high-quality imaging — including high A/D resolution — have increased. The new target specification is 60fps Ultra-High-Definition with 12b resolution. This imaging requires 24Gb/s, while reported CMOS image sensors have reached up to 6.5Gb/s [1–4]. This paper presents a 34.8Gb/s CMOS image sensor with high image quality, which realizes 17.7M pixels at 120fps with 12b resolution and a dynamic range of over 75dB (one of the highest image qualities, compared with data from [2]). Generally there exists a trade-off between high-speed imaging and high image quality. This is because high-speed imaging brings high power with high thermal noise, which also degrades the signal quality, and because fast data transfer may require more output pins, bringing more interference.

Since the I/O bandwidth demand for mobile consumer electronics has been growing rapidly, the importance of high-speed low-power I/O links has also been increasing. Among proposed I/O architectures, [1] and [2] are attractive solutions. However, for an application that needs the burst-mode operation, the lock-in time should be within the period of several tens of bits. Therefore, the PLL-based phase rotator with a longer lock-in time, is not suitable for this purpose. In this paper, a 1.296-to-5.184Gb/s transceiver uses an injection-locking-based CDR. The proposed CDR architecture, dual-edge injection-locked oscillator CDR (DILO-CDR), realizes fast lock (≪20 bits), continuous-rate capability (1.296 to 5.184Gb/s) and 2× power efficiency [2.4mW/(Gb/s)] of previous fast-lock continuous-rate CDRs [3, 4].

Reliable multicast has been applied to large-scale contents delivery systems for distributing digital contents to a large number of users without data loss. Performance evaluation of reliable multicast is useful for delivery time estimation in active delivery systems as well as for designing communication protocols and systems. This paper shows the performance estimation scheme for RMTP; a reliable multicast protocol for bulk-data transfer and applies it to the scheduling function in megacast; a contents delivery system for large numbers of receiver. Some performance characteristics of RMTP are also examined.

A reliable multicast protocol distributing multimedia data such as software, electronic newspapers, and books without errors to a large number of users on the network is highly desirable. This paper presents a new flow control method that makes such a protocol feasible in real environments wherein receiver functions may degrade and/or network quality may deteriorate. The method involves rate-based flow control such that the server monitors the state of all group members affected by the network performance, and feedback observations in the multicasting rate. The efficiency of the proposed method is confirmed by experimental results.
