Exosome‐derived microRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging as pivotal players in the pathophysiology of sepsis, representing a new frontier in both the diagnosis and treatment of this complex condition. Sepsis, a severe systemic response to infection, involves intricate immune and nonimmune mechanisms, where exosome‐mediated communication can significantly influence disease progression and outcomes. During the progress of sepsis, the miRNA profile of exosomes undergoes notable alterations, is reflecting, and may affect the progression of the disease. This review comprehensively explores the biology of exosome‐derived miRNAs, which originate from both immune cells (such as macrophages and dendritic cells) and nonimmune cells (such as endothelial and epithelial cells) and play a dynamic role in modulating pathways that affect the course of sepsis, including those related to inflammation, immune response, cell survival, and apoptosis. Taking into account these dynamic changes, we further discuss the potential of exosome‐derived miRNAs as biomarkers for the early detection and prognosis of sepsis and advantages over traditional biomarkers due to their stability and specificity. Furthermore, this review evaluates exosome‐based therapeutic miRNA delivery systems in sepsis, which may pave the way for targeted modulation of the septic response and personalized treatment options. Investigating and synthesizing potent antibacterial NPs using biological methods is highly preferred, and it involves nontoxic, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly chemicals and methods. Antibiotic drug resistance and oxidative stress have become a serious public health issue worldwide. Hence, the key objective of this study was to biologically synthesize and characterize the potent antibacterial Co3O4@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles for the antibacterial application. The radical scavenging ability of green synthesized Co3O4@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles was also determined. In this study, Co3O4@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles (CZCS NPs) have been synthesized using three different core to shell materials ratios of Co3O4 to ZnO (0.5 : 0.25 CZCS (1), 0.5 : 0.5 CZCS (2), and 0.5 : 0.75 M CZCS (3)) by employing Datura stramonium leaf extract. The polycrystalline nature of Co3O4@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles was investigated using the XRD and SAED characterization techniques. The investigated nanostructure of Co3O4@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles appeared with Co3O4 as the core and ZnO as an outer shell. Additionally, a variety of physicochemical properties of the nanoparticles were determined using various characterization techniques. The average crystallite sizes of CZCS (1), CZCS (2), and CZCS (3) were found to be 24 ± 1.4 , 22 ± 1.5 , and 25 ± 1.5 nm, respectively. The band gap energy values for CZCS (1), CZCS (2), and CZCS (3) determined from the UV-DRS data were found to be 2.75, 2.76, and 2.73 eV, respectively. The high inhibition activities against S. aureus, S. pyogenes, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa bacterial strains were obtained for the small size CZCS (2) nanoparticles at the concentration of 100 mg/mL with 22 ± 0.34, 19 ± 0. 32 , 18 ± 0.45 , and 17 ± 0.32 mm values, respectively. The high inhibition performance of CZCS (2) nanoparticles against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria which is even above the control drug ampicillin is because of its small size and synergistic effect. The percentage scavenging activity of Co3O4@ZnO core-shell nanoparticles was also studied and CZCS (2) nanoparticles showed a good scavenging capacity (86.87%) at 500 μg/mL with IC50 of 209.26 μg/mL. A smart energy management controller is required for effective source coordination and load demand management. This work proposes a novel instantaneous current reference technique for use in power management of hybrid power systems (HPS), both autonomous and interconnected with the grid. A grid integrated hybrid power system (GI-HPS) includes both the AC grid and additional sources used in industrial and commercial environments. Solar photovoltaic (SPV) panels, wind turbine generators, proton exchange membrane fuel cells, and batteries are all part of the test system. The suggested energy management system (SEMS) manages power from the hybrid power source and the energy storage components to meet the load needs. The recommended SEMS can transit between 12 different modes of operation to fulfil the load demand requirements. The SEMS employs a scaling factor N to accelerate the rate at which the measured current approaches the reference current. The proposed scaling factor significantly improves the SEMS's dynamic performance since it can quickly respond to the changes in the source and load characteristics. Myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the most prevalent disorders seen in clinical practice, and its prevalence has risen dramatically in the last decade. Ovothiol‐A is a natural product isolated from sea urchin eggs and display unusual antioxidant properties. The present study investigates the therapeutic effect of Ovothiol‐A against MI stimulated in rats by epinephrine injection. Subcutaneous injection of 2 mg/kg epinephrine for 2 days caused MI in rats. The rats divided into three groups; control, MI, and MI treated with Ovothiol‐A (500 mg/kg, orally) for 7 days. The treatment with Ovothiol‐A restored ST‐segment near normal, ameliorated the changes in cardiac troponin T, creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine amino transferase, alkaline phosphatase, total proteins, creatinine, uric acid, urea, malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, reduced glutathione, catalase, glutathione‐S‐transferase, hemoglobin, RBCs, WBCs, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio. The histological investigation revealed that Ovothiol‐A‐treated group showed marked improvement in the examined cardiac muscles, liver and kidney in numerous sections. Ovothiol‐A possessed a therapeutic effect against epinephrine‐induced myocardial infarction. Ovothiol‐A improves cardiac, liver, and kidney biomarkers and restores the typical pattern of EEG. Practical applications: Eggs of sea urchins are rich in potent antioxidant molecule (Ovothiol‐A).The current study reveals the ability to use Ovothiol‐A in the treatment of myocardial infarction. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the common liver disease characterized by hepatic steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis; there are no approved drugs to treat this disease because of incomplete understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms of NASH. Milk fat globule-epidermal growth factor-factor 8 (MFG-E8), a multifunctional glycoprotein, has shown anti-inflammation and antifibrosis. Here, MFG-E8 was shown to play a key role in NASH progression. Using methionine and choline deficient (MCD) diet-fed mice, we found MFG-E8 knockout exacerbated hepatic damage and steatosis as indicated by increased plasma transaminases activities and hepatic histopathologic change, higher hepatic triglycerides (TGs), and lipid accumulation. Moreover, liver fibrosis and inflammation elicited by MCD were aggravated in MFG-E8 knockout mice. Mechanistically, MFG-E8 knockout facilitated activation of hepatic toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway in MCD-fed mice. In vitro experiment, the TLR4 specific antagonist TAK-242 rescued palmitic acid- (PA-) primed lipid formation and inflammation in MFG-E8 knockout primary murine hepatocytes. These findings indicated that MFG-E8 is involved in the progression of NASH and the possible mechanism by which MFG-E8 knockout exacerbated NASH in mice is associated with activation of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway. Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a highly selective α2 adrenergic receptor (α2AR) agonist currently used in clinical settings. Because DEX has dose-dependent advantages of sedation, analgesia, antianxiety, inhibition of sympathetic nervous system activity, cardiovascular stabilization, and significant reduction of postoperative delirium and agitation, but does not produce respiratory depression and agitation, it is widely used in clinical anesthesia and ICU departments. In recent years, much clinical study and basic research has confirmed that DEX has a protective effect on a variety of organs, including the nervous system, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and small intestine. It acts by reducing the inflammatory response in these organs, activating antiapoptotic signaling pathways which protect cells from damage. Therefore, based on wide clinical application and safety, DEX may become a promising clinical multiorgan protection drug in the future. In this article, we review the physiological effects related to organ protection in α2AR agonists along with the organ-protective effects and mechanisms of DEX to understand their combined application value. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most common and troublesome perioperative complications. Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a potent α2-adrenoceptor (α2-AR) agonist with anti-inflammatory and renoprotective effects. In this study, a rat renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) model was induced. At 24 h after reperfusion, the IRI-induced damage and the renoprotection of DEX preconditioning were confirmed both biochemically and histologically. Changes in nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), as well as its downstream anti-inflammatory factor A20 and proinflammatory factor tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), were detected. Atipamezole, a nonselective antagonist, was then added 5 min before the administration of DEX to further analyze DEX's effects on NF-κB, and another anti-inflammatory medicine, methylprednisolone, was used in comparison with DEX, to further analyze DEX's effects on NF-κB. Different concentrations of DEX (0 nM, 0.1 nM, 1 nM, 10 nM, 100 nM, 1 μM, and 10 μM) were applied to preincubated human renal tubular epithelial cell line (HK-2) cells in vitro. After anoxia and reoxygenation, the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) tetrazolium assay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were performed to evaluate the levels of NF-κB downstream anti-inflammatory cytokines. The results showed that, unlike methylprednisolone, DEX preconditioning led to a time-dependent biphasic change (first activation then inhibition) of NF-κB in the rat renal IRI models that were given 25 μg/kg i.p. It was accompanied by a similarly biphasic change of TNF-α and an early and persistent upregulation of A20. In vitro, DEX's cellular protection showed a concentration-dependent biphasic change which was protective within the range of 0 to 100 nM but became opposite when concentrations are greater than 1 μM. The changes in the A20 and NF-κB messenger RNA (mRNA) levels were consistent with the renoprotective ability of DEX. Remifentanil, an ultra-short acting opiate, has been reported to protect against hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury, which is a major cause of postoperative liver dysfunction. The objective of this study was to determine whether a central vagal pathway is involved in this protective procedure. Rat models of hepatic ischemia-reperfusion were used in the experimental procedures. The results revealed that intravenous pretreatment with remifentanil decreased serum aminotransferases and hepatic histologic damage; however, an intraperitoneal injection of μ-opioid receptor antagonist did not abolish the protection of remifentanil preconditioning. c-Fos immunofluorescence of the brain stem showed that dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus was activated after remifentanil preconditioning. Moreover, serum alanine aminotransferase, histopathologic damage, and apoptosis decreased in remifentanil preconditioning group compared to vagotomized animals with remifentanil preconditioning, and there was no statistical difference of TNF-α and IL-6 between NS/Va and RPC/Va groups. In addition, remifentanil microinjection into dorsal vagal complex decreased serum aminotransferases, inflammatory cytokines, and hepatic histologic injury and apoptosis, and these effects were also abolished by a peripheral hepatic vagotomy. In conclusion, remifentanil preconditioning conferred liver protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury, which was mediated by the central vagal pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Antioxidative activities of carotenoprotein from Pacific white shrimp shells extracted by trypsin from albacore tuna spleen were investigated. Carotenoprotein exhibited increased DPPH, ABTS radical scavenging activities, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), metal chelating activity, hydrogen peroxide, and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities as concentration increased up to 5 mg/mL (p < .05). ABTS radical scavenging activity of carotenoprotein was stable over a wide pH range (2–11) and temperature up to 100°C for 180 min. It was also stable in a simulated gastrointestinal tract model system. Carotenoprotein was able to reduce lipid oxidation in a dose‐dependent manner. During storage at room temperature, light and dark, 4°C and −20°C for 12 weeks, the ABTS radical scavenging activity of carotenoprotein was stable with more than 75.75% activity retention. Therefore, Pacific white shrimp carotenoprotein may be used as an alternative source of natural antioxidants. Practical applications: Carotenoprotein from Pacific white shrimp shells, the by‐products from shrimp processing industry, can be extracted using tuna trypsin. Cutaneous manifestations in sarcoidosis are seen in 25–35% of patients with systemic disease and may be the sole manifestation in few patients. It is known that isolated cutaneous sarcoidosis is a great mimicker and can be easily misdiagnosed as other granulomatous conditions especially lupus vulgaris in regions with high burden of tuberculosis (TB). Here we present a case with cutaneous sarcoidosis who was initially misdiagnosed and treated as bifocal lupus vulgaris with antitubercular therapy (ATT) for 6 months. This nonresponsiveness to therapy prompted us to investigate the patient further for other differentials, failing which a diagnosis of cutaneous sarcoidosis was made and the patient was treated with oral steroids and methotrexate with complete clearance of lesions after 14 weeks of therapy. Our case reemphasizes the value of therapeutic trial of ATT in diagnosis of cutaneous TB and highlights the remarkable clinical mimic of sarcoidosis with lupus vulgaris. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Protein hydrolysates from two forms of salmon frames named "chunk" and "mince" were produced and characterized. Both samples were subjected to hydrolysis using alcalase and papain at 1%–3% (w/w protein) for 0–240 min. Hydrolysate prepared with either protease at 3% for 180 min had the solid yield of 24.05%–26.39%. Hydrolysates contained 79.20%–82.01% proteins, 6.03%–6.34% fat, 9.81%–11.09% ash, and 4.02%–5.80% moisture. Amino acid profile showed that all hydrolysates had glutamic acid/glutamine (113.45–117.56 mg/g sample), glycine (77.86–86.18 mg/g sample), aspartic acid/asparagine (76.04–78.67 mg/g sample), lysine (61.97–65.99 mg/g sample), and leucine (54.30–57.31 mg/g sample) as the predominant amino acids. The size distributions determined by gel filtration chromatography varied, depending on proteases and the form of frame used for the hydrolysis. Different hydrolysates showed varying antioxidant capacities. Thus, protein hydrolysates from salmon frame could be used as a nutritive supplement in the protein deficient foods. Practical applications: Frames of salmon are by‐products from salmon fish processing industries. The frames contained the remaining meat, hence they can be used for the preparation of protein hydrolysates. Generally, hydrolysates from fish by‐products have been regarded as a promising food supplement, because they are rich in amino acids. Additionally, hydrolysates possess antioxidant activity, which is of health benefit. To produce the hydrolysate with less time consumption, the use of frame chunk instead of minced frame can be of better choice. Thus, frame of salmon, especially in chunk form, could be used as a raw material for production of protein hydrolysate using alcalase. The hydrolysate produced from salmon frame could serve as an alternative nutritive supplement to tackle the nutrition inadequacies in foods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
