International audience; This article offers some insight into the controversy stirred by Professor Didier Raoult’s recommendations about the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat patients suffering from SARS-CoV-2. We wish to show that the displacement of a scientific controversy into the media spheres and the intersection of several socio-professional worlds and the interweaving of different types of discourse have contributed to the blurring of communication, fostering the polarisation of positions. The encroachment of strategies of attack and self-promotion on scientific questioning has blocked the capacity for dialogue and aroused excessive passions.
