Much controversy surrounds the etiology and management of Bell's palsy, and the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying Bell's palsy remain obscure despite the extensive body of relevant research. The pathological condition of Bell's palsy is almost an inflammatory reaction compressing the facial nerve in the fallopian canal, particularly in the narrowest labyrinthine segment, followed by demyelinating neural change. As one of the best method for the visualization of the inflamed facial nerve in the intratemporal segment, temporal bone CT enable us not only to measure the exact length and thickness of individual segments of the facial nerve canal but also to view variable anatomic variations in the intratemporal facial canal. Some suggest that anatomical variation may predispose the nerve to inflammatory processes and also there can be peculiar structures of the temporal bone that are vulnerable to inflammation or neural compression injury.

Facial nerve paralysis in the pediatric population is rare. We describe a 2-year old child who was found with his head hanging between the railings of his bed. As a result he suffered a compression injury to his facial nerve; the only reported case that did not occur at the time of forceps delivery. The management of this type of injury is discussed, with a review of the literature. We find that this type of extratemporal injury to the facial nerve almost always results in complete recovery. The necessity of the generally accepted treatment of oral corticosteroid treatment is explored.

The liver is the solid organ most commonly injured as a result of blunt abdominal trauma. Complete avulsion of the common hepatic duct is a rare and devastating type of hepatobiliary trauma. Here the authors report the case of a 7-year-old child who had complete biliary disruption as a result of an abdominal crush injury that was not diagnosed correctly preoperatively. The intraoperative diagnosis and treatment of this injury is discussed.

Introduction : Parotid gland injuries occur infrequently following blunt trauma, which typically involves significant force resulting in complicated gland injury. Case report : We present a case of uncomplicated parotid gland injury that resolved with conservative management. Discussion : Injury to the parotid gland can result in complicated gland injury involving facial nerve neuropathy, hematoma or pseudocyst formation. Patients with blunt trauma to the parotid gland should be evaluated for any associated injury and be managed conservatively for uncomplicated injury.

The present study was designed to assess the effect of fenfluramine, a 5-HT releaser/uptake inhibitor, on neurological recovery following spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats. Sprague Dawley male rats were subjected to compression injury at T11 level for five minutes with a load of 35g. Posttraumatic neurological recovery was assessed for 10 days using Tarlov score, Rivlin-Tator angle board and sensory and vocal score. The results of this study showed that fenfluramine in a dose of 5 mg/kg significantly delayed the recovery from spinal cord injury.

SUMMARY Manipulation of the laryngoscope during a difficult orotracheal resulted in compression injury of the lingual nerve. Tongue sensation gradually returned after one month.
