The study conducted video observations at 2 long-term care facilities with 10 residents and 24 staff members, resulting in 41 dyads. The average mealtime duration was 12.21 ± 5.16 minutes; the average time of a single intake was 0.21 ± 0.21 minutes; and the median of the eating interval was 0.17 minutes. The average verbal assistance time was 1.41 ± 1.31 minutes; the average verbal assistance frequency was short (23.92 ± 15.50 times). During mealtime, residents had an average of 5.00 ± 4.07 instances of failing to eat properly. The video analysis emphasized the necessity of implementing a mealtime assistance program that incorporates patient-centered education for the staff and ensures sufficient staffing to provide high-quality meals for residents in long-term care facilities. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the Korean Function-Focused Care Program (K-FFCP) for residents of long-term care facilities (LTCRs) on long-term care workers' (LTCWs) knowledge, self-efficacy, and outcome expectations about function-focused care, as well as on their job satisfaction. The study adopted a quasi-experimental repeated-measures design. Participants included 50 LTCWs from two long-term care facilities (24 in the experimental group and 26 in the control group). Multivariate analysis of covariance showed that the effects of K-FFCP were significant on knowledge, efficacy, outcome expectation, and job satisfaction. Outcomes that could not be measured using scales were assessed through a focus group interview. Abstract New nursing graduates often experience difficulty adjusting to clinical work environments, despite completing well-structured education programs. This study explored the educational needs of recent nursing graduates from the perspectives of new nurses and their clinical educators in Korea. Four focus-group interviews with 7 nurse educators and 8 new nurses were conducted. Data were analyzed using Patton's inductive content analysis. Five analytic categories emerged: communication skills that build good relationships, managing unexpected situations, prioritization, practical experiences, and different ways of delivering education. Educators and new nurses agreed that communication skills are essential in building and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Future educational programs for new graduate nurses should reflect the needs of nurses and their educators so new registered nurses can successfully make the transition to expert nurses. This study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of Korean versions of the Nursing Assistant Self-Efficacy for Restorative Care Scale, and the Nursing Assistant Outcome Expectations for Restorative Care Scale. Psychometric testing was performed with 697 direct care workers in long-term care facilities in South Korea. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0, AMOS 22.0, and WINSTEPS 3.68.2. There was evidence for content validity. Factor loading in the Korean versions of the Nursing Assistant Self-Efficacy for Restorative Care Scale was 0.66–0.94, and Nursing Assistant Outcome Expectations for Restorative Care Scale was 0.43–0.77. Scores on the Korean versions of the Nursing Assistant Outcome Expectations for Restorative Care Scale correlated positively with scores on a scale of knowledge of restorative care. Additionally, Rasch model analysis of the K-NASERC and K-NAOERC indicates acceptable item data fit. These results indicated that the Korean versions of the Nursing Assistant Self-Efficacy, and Outcome Expectations for Restorative Care Scale are satisfactorily valid and reliable for the measurement. Background New nursing graduates have revealed that they perceive a gap between theory and practice with reference to their education and the real workplace setting. Additionally, many nurses experience a reality shock when they participate in clinical practice. Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop and test the effects of a scenario-based simulation training program on new graduate nurses' competency, critical thinking dispositions, and interpersonal communication skills. Method This pilot multi-site study used a pretest-posttest control group design. It was conducted at four sites of a university-affiliated simulation center in Korea. Participants were recruited utilizing a convenience sample from four tertiary hospitals in Korea. Twenty-four new graduate nurses participated in this study. Results At the three-month follow-up, the levels of communication skills used in practice among the intervention group were statistically significantly higher than those of the control group participants (U = 151.50, p = .005). However, there were no significant differences between the groups in changes in nursing competency (U = 287.50, p = .992) or critical thinking disposition scores (U = 269.50, p = .702). The participants' mean rating scores concerning the objectives, intentions, and recommendations for other nurses were positive and high. Conclusion The involvement of current practicing of nursing in certain scenarios and the implementation of simulation learning could enhance the readiness of new graduate nurses. The purpose of this study was to test a hypothesized model for use in explaining the factors that influence depression among older adults dwelling in Ansan City in Korea. A cross-sectional community-based survey was done using face-to-face private interviews. A hypothesized model was tested using path analysis. Of the 32 hypothesized paths in the structural model, 13 were significant. Gender (β = −.14, P = .24), income (β = −.21, P < .00), education (β = −.14, P = .10), activities of daily living (ADL; β = −.29, P < .00), and somatic symptoms (β = .29, P < .00) accounted for the incidence of depression (β = .06, P < .00), representing 28% of the variance in depression. This study examined the effects of a clown–nurse educational intervention on children undergoing day surgery for strabismus. This was a quasi-experimental study, using a nonequivalent control group, non-synchronized design. Fifty preschool children and their parents were invited to participate. The children in the intervention group (n = 23) received clown therapy and subsequently reported significantly lower states of physiological anxiety, which was evidenced by systolic blood pressure, standardized behavioral anxiety tests, and post-surgery pain, than the control group (n = 27). In addition, the parents in the experimental group showed a low state of physiological anxiety, evidenced by systolic blood pressure, pulse rates, standardized behavioral anxiety tests, and state-trait anxiety. The use of preoperative clown intervention may alleviate postoperative problems, not only for children, but also for their parents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
