Background: Viscum articulatum Burm. (Family: Loranthaceae) is commonly known as mistletoe. In ayurveda, the plant parts are used in "Kapha", "Vata", diseases of the blood, ulcer, and epilepsy. The plant parts are also used in urinary tract infection and wound infection. The plant contains five triterpenoids such as α-amyrin, lupeol, betulin, betulinic acid and oleanolic acid, exhibiting several pharmacological activities including antimicrobial, anti-HIV, antitumor, antiviral activity., Objective: To ensure the content of uniformity of oleanolic acid, a RP-HPLC method has been developed for estimation of oleanolic acid in V. articulatum aerial part., Material and Methods: The RP-HPLC method was carried out in reverse phase C 18 column, using methanol and water as mobile phase in the ratio of 95:5 (v/v), at the flow rate of 1 mL/min. The pH of aqueous phase was adjusted 3.2 with 1% (v/v) glacial acetic acid. The λ max was set at 210 nm., Results: The retention time of oleanolic acid was found at 21.5 ± 0.05 min. The linearity of the response was found to be 10-800 μg/mL. The coefficient of determinants of oleanolic acid was found to be (r 2 ) 0.995 and equation Y = 19462X + 16,172. The LOD and LOQ were found to be for oleanolic acid (1.96% w/w) 0.197 ± 0.63 and 0.623 ± 0.87 μg/mL, respectively. The developed method was accurate, specific, precise and reproducible., Conclusion: This RP-HPLC may be useful for quantitative estimation of the chemical constituents present in the plant extract as well as the quality assessment of the herbal product., (Copyright © 2018 Transdisciplinary University, Bangalore and World Ayurveda Foundation. This review article compiles the characteristics of resin based dental composites and an effort is made to point out their future perspectives. Recent research studies along with few earlier articles were studied to compile the synthesis schemes of commonly used monomers, their characteristics in terms of their physical, mechanical and polymerization process with selectivity towards the input parameters of polymerization process. This review covers surface modification processes of various filler particles using silanes, wear behaviour, antimicrobial behaviour along with its testing procedures to develop the fundamental knowledge of various characteristics of resin based composites. In the end of this review, possible areas of further interests are pointed out on the basis of literature review on resin based dental materials., (© 2019 The Authors.)

This paper investigates the effect of %wt composition of BisGMA/TEGDMA, stirring time, bench time, curing time and filler loading on polymerization shrinkage and micro-hardness of resin based dental composites. The investigation was carried out in two stages. In first stage, samples were prepared with different %wt composition of BisGMA/TEGDMA, stirring time, bench time, and curing time to access the effect of different input parameters for minimum polymerization shrinkage and maximum micro-hardness using Taguchi methodology. Selecting optimum values of input factors from first stage, second stage optimization was performed to investigate the effects of different filler loading on different %wt composition of BisGMA/TEGDMA using full factorial design. Prediction model was developed using Design Expert software and analysis of effect of input parameters on output responses were carried out using 3D surface plots. ANOVA were performed to check the significance of prediction model. In first stage, optimum stirring time, bench time and curing time were found to be 4 h, 50 min and 30 s, respectively. In second stage, optimum polymerization shrinkage and micro-hardness of 3.54% and 310 H v were predicted at 22.89% of TEGDMA content and 20% filler loading. The present investigation was aimed to utilize the stealth property of polyethylene glycol (PEG) modified chitosan nanoparticles (NPs) and active targeting function of transferrin (Tf) by transferrin receptor-mediated endocytosis to promote drug delivery to cancer cells. Paclitaxel (PTX) loaded nanoparticles (PTX-NP) were prepared by solvent evaporation method; PEGylation was carried out by coupling amine group present on the surface of NPs with hydroxyl group present on the PEG (NP-PEG). Tf conjugation was carried out by coupling carboxylic group present on the surface of ligand and hydroxyl group present on the PEG (NP-PEG-Tf). The uptake of NP-PEG-Tf into cancer cells was found to be higher as compared to non-targeted NPs. Compared with free PTX, PTX-NPs and PTX-NPs-PEG, the PTX-NPs-PEG-Tf demonstrated higher cytotoxicity to human Non-Small Cell Lung cancer cell lines (HOP-62), higher intracellular uptake especially in nuclei and lower hemolytic toxicity. Tf conjugated NPs showed increased retention time in the lungs as well as in blood. These findings indicate that Tf conjugated PEGylated nanoparticles are promising nanoconstructs for the delivery of anti-cancer drugs to cancer cells., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier B.V. Background: Anemic patients with chronic renal failure receiving recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) therapy frequently develop hypertension through an unknown mechanism. We hypothesize that EPO receptors (EPORs) on endothelial cells (ECs) in various sites of vasculature may mediate the activities of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and/or the release of endothelin-1 (ET-1), contributing to blood pressure changes. We tested this hypothesis using primary cultures of ECs obtained from human coronary artery (HCAEC), pulmonary artery (HPAEC), dermis (HDEC), and umbilical vein (HUVEC)., Methods: EPORs were measured by 125I-EPO binding. The effect of EPO on EPOR, ET-1, and NOS mRNA levels was assessed by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Cellular NOS activity and ET-1 release into the medium was measured by the NOSdetect assay and by radioimmunoassay kits., Results: Short-term (4 h) treatment with EPO (4 U/mL) did not change the number or affinity of EPOR per cell. Neither were there any changes in the amount of EPOR, ET-1, and NOS transcripts (cDNA/microg of mRNA) nor in ET-1 release and NOS activity. In HUVEC only, 24-hour exposure to EPO caused a threefold increase in NOS transcript. In other cells, EPO treatment for six days increased NOS activity by twofold to fourfold., Conclusions: We show that upon extended exposure, EPO induces NOS activity but does not affect ET-1 release. These findings indicate that the hypertensive effect of EPO is not likely to be caused by a direct effect on ECs.
