Objective: Epilepsy, a neurological disorder, is identified by the presence of recurrent seizures. We aimed to detect dietary fiber intake and its association with epilepsy prevalence in U.S. adults., Methods: This cross-sectional study obtained data from the 2013-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were employed to estimate the association between dietary fiber intake and epilepsy prevalence. The restricted cubic spline (RCS) model was also applied to investigate the dose-response relationships between dietary fiber intake and epileptic seizure events(ESEs)., Results: Our final sample included 13,277 NHANES participants, with the average prevalence of ESEs being 1.09 % (145/13277). After adjusting for all confounding factors, the third quartile of dietary fiber intake levels remained significantly associated with a decreased risk of ESEs[odds ratios (OR) 0.54,95 % confidence interval (CI) 0.33-0.88, P = 0.014)] compared to the first quartile. Higher fiber intake indicated a stable negative association with ESEs in the multivariate logistic regression analysis, weighted generalized additive model. A nonlinear dose-response relationship was observed between dietary fiber intake levels and decreased ESEs risk (P for overall=0.017, P for nonlinear=0.155). Interaction tests showed no significant effect of demographic and disease status on the association between dietary fiber intake and ESEs., Conclusion: In this cross-sectional study, people with a high dietary fiber intake were at a reduced risk of ESEs. Objective: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common malignant tumor with a high incidence in males and the elderly, and clear cell RCC (ccRCC) is the most common RCC subtype. ccRCC is highly metastatic with a poor prognosis. Therefore, it is crucial to obtain a detailed understanding of the molecular mechanism of ccRCC and to identify suitable biomarkers to realize early diagnosis and improve prognosis., Methods: We analyzed data from the Cancer Genome Atlas, investigated the overall differential expression of CD276 in ccRCC, and evaluated the influence of CD276 on patient survival and prognosis. We also performed gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and pathway enrichment analysis and investigated cell infiltration and drug responsiveness to further assess the regulatory effect of CD276 on ccRCC. Furthermore, we verified CD276 expression in RCC cell lines and control cell lines., Results: The CD276 expression level in ccRCC samples was higher than that in corresponding samples adjacent to the tumors. Moreover, high CD276 expression levels were positively correlated with poor prognosis in patients with RCC. GSEA revealed that CD276 was significantly involved in immune-related pathways, and the level of CD276 expression was confirmed as associated with immune cell infiltration to some extent. Notably, some drugs were predicted to act on CD276, and this was confirmed by molecular docking. Furthermore, high levels of CD276 expression in RCC cell lines were verified., Conclusion: CD276 expression was significantly increased in ccRCC tissues and cells and positively correlated with patient prognosis. CD276 is a potential prognostic biomarker of ccRCC. Seven new triterpenoids, named Adeterpenoids A-G (1-7) and eight known compounds (8-15), were isolated from 70% ethanol extract of the roots of Adenophora tetraphylla (Thub.) Fisch. The compounds from it were separated by column chromatography techniques such as silica gel, ODS, and preparative liquid chromatography. Their structures were clarified based on extensive spectral analysis (1D, 2D-NMR, HR-ESI-MS, IR, UV, and CD) and comparison with the literature. At the same time, all compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against the LN229 (human glioma cell line). Background: Cardiac complications are related to poor prognosis after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This study aims to predict the cardiac complications arising from small intracranial hematoma at ultraearly stage., Methods: The data of this work were derived from the Risk Stratification and Minimally Invasive Surgery in Acute ICH Patients study (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03862729). This work included patients with ICH but without brain herniation, as confirmed by a brain computed tomography scan within 48 hours of symptom onset. Every Patient's information recorded at the emergent department, including clinical, laboratory, electrocardiogram, and medical records, was derived from the electronic data capture. Cardiac complications were defined as the occurrence of myocardial damage, arrhythmias, and ischemic electrocardiogram changes during hospitalization. Variables associated with cardiac complications were filtrated by univariate and multivariate regression analyses. Independent risk factors were used to form the early predictive model. The restricted cubic splines were employed to investigate the nonlinear associations in a more sophisticated and scholarly manner., Results: A total of 587 ICH patients were enrolled in this work, including 72 patients who suffered from cardiac complications after ICH. Out of the 78 variables, 24 were found to be statistically significant in the univariate logistic regression analysis. These significant variables were then subjected to multivariate logistic regression analysis and utilized for constructing risk models. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed high plasma fibrinogen (FIB) level [odds ratio (OR) per standard deviation (SD) 1.327, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 1.037-1.697; P = 0. 024)] and older age (OR per SD 1.777, 95% CI 1.344-2.349; P ＜0.001) were associated with a higher incidence of cardiac complications after ICH. High admission pulse rate (OR 0.620, 95% CI 0.451-0.853; P = 0. 003) was considered a protective factor for cardiac complications after ICH. In the restricted cubic spline regression model, FIB and cardiac complications following ICH were positively correlated and almost linearly (P for nonlinearity = 0.073). Seventeen triterpenoids including four new lanostane triterpenoids (1-3 and 5) were isolated from the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum by various chromatographic techniques. Their chemical structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic data, including 1D-NMR, 2D-NMR, and HRESIMS. In addition, the spectral data of compound 4 was reported for the first time. In an in vitro bioassay, most isolated triterpenoids could inhibit the hydrolysis activity of fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). Furthermore, there is no cytotoxicity observed for these isolated triterpenoids. Airborne oil mist particulate matter (OMPM) is generated during industrial processes such as metalworking and may be associated with pulmonary dysfunction. In this study, we employed the normal human bronchial epithelial BEAS-2B cell line to elucidate the association between pulmonary toxicity and OMPM of 2.5-10 μm, 1.0-2.5 μm and <1.0 μm particle sizes (OMPM 10 - 2.5 , OMPM 2.5 - 1.0 and OMPM 1.0 ). We measured OMPM concentrations at a precision machinery factory to estimate lung deposition rates and select realistic environmental concentrations for testing. All OMPMs (1-50 μg/cm 2 ) significantly decreased BEAS-2B cell viability (>38% of control), except for low-dose OMPM 1.0 (1 μg/cm 2 ). OMPM 10 - 2.5 and OMPM 2.5 - 1.0 , but not OMPM 1.0 , induced oxidative stress (1.5-4-fold increase compared with the control) and increased the production of proinflammatory cytokines (1.5-3-fold). However, only OMPM 1.0 induced pulmonary epithelial barrier dysfunction via depletion of zonula occludens (0.65-0.8-fold) and α1-antitrypsin proteins (0.65-0.8-fold). In conclusion, a higher risk of lung disease was associated with smaller particle size OMPM. Exposure to OMPM 1.0 may be a potential risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The main objective of this study was to establish a human cell-based platform to assess the effects of sediment toxicity on oxidative damage and cell essential behaviour. Since sediment pollution has increased as a consequence of including but not limited to industrialisation, the contaminants accumulated in sediments have already led to human health concerns. The Hsinchu Science Park is one of the most prominent semiconductor manufacturing centres in the world, and the Ke-Ya River flows through Hsinchu Science Park and the Hsinchu urban district. Because semiconductor wastes potentially contribute to higher-than-normal rates of cancers, birth defects, and serious diseases, the quality assessment of the Ke-Ya River has prompted widespread concerns. While previous studies have shown an association between the degradation of fish populations and sediment pollutants, very little is known about the issues on human health. Herein, the effects of sediment from three sediment sampling sites of the Ke-Ya River on 11 different human cell lines were directly evaluated. The upstream represents the undeveloped zone, the middle-stream represents the household/industrial wastewater zone, and the downstream represents the accumulation zone. Our results indicated that the sediment pollution of the downstream Ke-Ya River was more cytotoxic than that of the middle stream and upstream. Downstream sediment extract (DSE) significantly increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels across all cell types. Accordingly, oxidative stress can trigger redox-sensitive pathways and alter essential biological processes such as cell viability, cell adhesion, and cell motility. Importantly, the MTT assay indicated that DSE significantly decreased the viability of brain, oral, lung, breast, liver, pancreatic, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cells. Furthermore, the adhesive ability and wound healing ability of most cells were greatly reduced in the presence of DSE compared to other conditions. Thus, this study shows the results of the first analyses completed on the sediment cytotoxicity in human cells, and stimulated ROS levels are crucial for cellular life. In future research, the detailed cause and effect mechanisms of the abundant ROS generated in DSE will be further investigated. Although the PVR/TIGIT immune checkpoint axis has been suggested as a promising target for cancer immunotherapy and multiple TIGIT-targeting therapies are undergoing clinical trials, the underlying regulatory mechanisms of PVR/TIGIT interaction remain inconclusive. Here we show that TIGIT N-glycosylations are critical for maintaining the interaction between TIGIT and PVR. TIGIT has two N-glycosylation residues, N32 and N101. N-glycosylation on N101 of TIGIT and, to less extent, on N32, play potent roles in PVR binding. Emerging evidence implicates gut microbiota have an important role in ulcerative colitis (UC). Previous study indicated that Evodiamine (EVO) can alleviate colitis through downregulating inflammatory pathways. However, specific relationship between EVO-treated colitis relief and regulation of gut microbiota is still unclear. Here, our goal was to determine the potential role of gut microbiota in the relief of UC by EVO. By using pathology-related indicators, 16S rRNA sequencing and metabolomics profiling, we assessed the pharmacological effect of EVO on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis rats as well as on the change of gut microbiota and metabolism. Fecal derived from EVO-treated rats was transplanted into colitis rats to verify the effect of EVO on gut microbiota, and 'driver bacteria' was found and validated by 16S rRNA sequencing, metagenome and qRT-PCR. The effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus) was investigated by vivo experiment, microbiota analysis, Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) quantification and colon transcriptomics. EVO reduced the susceptibility to DSS-induced destruction of epithelial integrity and severe inflammatory response, and regulated the gut microbiota and metabolites. Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) alleviated DSS-induced colitis, increased the abundance of L. acidophilus and the level of acetate. Furthermore, gavaged with L. acidophilus reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines, promoted the increase of goblet cells and the secretion of antimicrobial peptides, regulated the ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes and increased the level of acetate. Our results indicated that EVO mitigation of DSS-induced colitis is associated with increased in L. acidophilus and protective acetate production, which may be a promising strategy for treating UC., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Background: Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is a nonspecific inflammatory biomarker and has been reported to be useful in predicting community-acquired pneumonia and Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia. The connection between LDH level and postoperative pneumonia (POP) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is still unclear. The aim of this study was to assess feasibility of predicting POP in patients with aSAH using LDH., Methods: Admission serum LDH level was obtained in 647 patients with aSAH enrolled in a prospective observational study. The relationship between LDH level and POP was analyzed., Results: POP occurred in 187 patients (28.90%). Patients with POP had significantly higher LDH levels than patients without POP (261.26 ± 126.51 U/L vs. 189.00 ± 69.20 U/L, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that LDH level remained a significant independent factor associated with POP in patients with aSAH, even after adjusting for possible confounding factors. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that LDH level had a sensitivity of 63.6% and a specificity of 71.3% for predicting POP based on best threshold of 203.5 U/L. There were additive interactions between elevated LDH level and World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies grade or mechanical ventilator use. Successful seed germination depends on the rapid repair of cell membrane damaged by dry storage. However, little is known about the reorganization of lipids during this process. In this study, the changes of intracellular redox environment, cell membrane integrity, lipid composition, and expression of genes related to phospholipid metabolism were assessed during imbibition of Brassica napus seeds. A total number of 443 lipids belonging to 7 categories were detected by ultra-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS). In the 24 h-imbibed seeds, the relative content of triacylglycerol was lower than in dry seeds, while the relative content of phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylinositol (PI), and phosphatidylserine (PS), especially PC (36:2, number of carbons in the acyl chains: number of double bonds), PC (36:3), and PE (36:3) were higher than those in dry seeds. Meanwhile, the content and unsaturation levels of phospholipids increased, indicating membrane lipids remodeling during seed imbibition. The plasma membrane integrity, which was measured by the relative electrolyte leakage (REL) of the membrane and FM4-64 fluorescent dye, was improved upon imbibition, confirming that cell membrane was repaired after 24 h-imbibition. The reduction of H 2 O 2 content, redox potential, and malondialdehyde (MDA) content indicated that the degree of membrane lipid peroxidation was significantly decreased upon imbibition. Gene expression analysis showed that the differential expression of genes for key enzymes occurred in the plateau phase of the imbibition curve, i.e. after 8 h-to 24 h-imbibition. Moreover, the differential expression of genes such as those encoding phospholipase C (PLC), phospholipase D (PLD), triacylglycerol lipase (TAG lipase), choline/ethanolamine phosphotransferase (CEPT), and phosphatidylserine synthase (PTDSS2) during imbibition indicated that membrane lipid remodeling was related to complex metabolic pathways, among which the degradation of triacylglycerol and the synthesis of phospholipids using diacylglycerol might play an important role during membrane remodeling., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc. Objective: We tested the hypothesis that low hemoglobin levels are associated with acute seizures after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH)., Methods: Patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms were enrolled in the observational cohort study that prospectively collected age, sex, symptom onset, history of diabetes and hypertension, history of coronary artery disease, temperature, Hunt-Hess grade, Fisher grade, aneurysm location, hemoglobin, hematocrit, serum potassium, sodium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and modified Rankin Scale. Acute seizures were determined as seizures within 1 week after aSAH., Results: We included 554 patients with requisite data for analysis in the prospective study. Incidence of acute seizures following aSAH was 3.61%. In the univariate analysis, significant differences were detected in admission Hunt-Hess grade, Fisher grade, hemoglobin, and serum iron between epilepsy and nonepilepsy groups. Furthermore, acute seizures were associated with higher modified Rankin Scale score and poor outcome (P = 0.004). Serum hemoglobin levels were 114.30 ± 20.08 g/L in the epilepsy group, which were lower than those in the nonepilepsy group (128.64 ± 17.94 mmol/L, P = 0.001). Serum iron levels were 8.89 ± 5.03 g/L in the epilepsy group, which were also lower than those in the nonepilepsy group (13.71 ± 6.70 mmol/L, P = 0.002). The hemoglobin level was positively correlated with serum iron on admission (ρ = 0.321, P = 0.000). In the multivariate logistic regression model, lower hemoglobin was considered as an independent risk factor of acute seizures (odds ratio 4.286, 95% confidence interval 1.492-12.315, P = 0.007). The optimal cutoff value for hemoglobin level as a predictor for acute epilepsy after aSAH was determined as 119 g/L in the receiver operating characteristic curve (sensitivity was 75.00%, and specificity was 69.48%)., Conclusions: These data support the hypothesis that hemoglobin was inversely associated with acute seizures following aSAH., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc. Objective: We tested the hypothesis that cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumors are associated with a greater incidence of unruptured intracranial aneurysms (IAs)., Methods: Patients with intracranial tumors (ITs) undergoing computed tomography angiography and magnetic resonance imaging were enrolled in an observational cohort study that prospectively collected age, sex, hypertension, diabetes, cerebral arteriosclerosis, tumor type, tumor location, hydrocephalus, smoking, alcohol intake, CPA tumor size, cerebral aneurysms, and cerebral arteriosclerosis. Patients with the coexistence of IA and ITwere classified as group II, whereas the others with IT as group I., Results: We included 1218 patients with IT for analysis. The incidence of IA was 7.1% (86/1218). A total of 31% of patients with aneurysms had CPA tumors. In a multivariate logistic regression model, a greater incidence of IA was found in female patients (odds ratio [OR] 1.726, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.050-2.836, P=0.031) and in patients with CPA tumors (OR 3.002, 95% CI 1.822-4.947, P=0.000) after adjustment for tumor type, cerebral arteriosclerosis, and age. In female patients, CPA tumors were a unique independent risk factor of a greater incidence of IA (OR 2.270, 95% CI 1.194-4.317, P=0.012). Furthermore, cerebral arteriosclerosis was a unique independent risk factor of IA in patients with CPA tumors (OR 7.626, 95% CI 2.928-19.860, P=0.000)., Conclusions: These data support the hypothesis that CPA tumors are associated with a greater incidence of unruptured IAs, especially in female patients. Background: We tested the hypothesis that high-density lipoprotein (HDL) is associated with intracranial aneurysm growth and rupture., Methods: We used an observational cohort study design. Age, sex, admission systolic blood pressure (SBP), diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, aneurysmal rupture, apolipoprotein (APO)-A1, APO-B, HDL, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, cholesterol, and aneurysm location and size were recorded. Aneurysms <8 mm were categorized as small., Results: The data from 581 patients with intracranial aneurysms were analyzed. The predictive factors for small size of aneurysms were female sex (odds ratio [OR], 0.630; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.428-0.927; P = 0.019) and higher HDL (OR, 0.327; 95% CI, 0.159-0.672; P = 0.0002). In the subgroup of male patients, lower HDL was the only risk factor for large size (P = 0.015). The predictors of aneurysmal rupture were small size (OR, 0.875; 95% CI, 0.842-0.910; P = 0.000), higher HDL (OR, 3.716; 95% CI, 1.623-8.509; P = 0.002), no coronary artery disease (OR, 4.736; 95% CI, 1.528-14.681; P = 0.007), lower APO-A1 (OR, 0.202; 95% CI, 0.064-0.641; P = 0.007), and higher admission SBP (OR, 1.024; 95% CI, 1.015-1.032; P = 0.000). An HDL/aneurysm size ratio >0.31 was associated with a 46.2-fold increased likelihood of aneurysmal rupture (OR, 46.214; 95% CI, 13.386-159.548; P = 0.002)., Conclusions: The HDL level was inversely associated with intracranial aneurysm growth, especially in men. Higher HDL levels and small aneurysm size contributed to a greater risk of aneurysmal rupture. Objective: To investigate the value of 3-dimensional (3D)-printed models with pathologic entities in enhancing the learning curve of surgery of tuberculum sellae meningioma., Methods: We printed 4 models of tuberculum sellae meningiomas based on radiologic data using a 3D printer. Participants were allocated to the 3D group and the atlas group. In the 3D group, participants learned surgery with the assistance of 3D models. In the atlas group, participants used only 2-dimensional materials to assist their learning. All participants undertook a pre-test and post-test. The scores were used to identify the difference in learning efficiency between the 2 groups., Results: A total of 42 new trainees were recruited, of whom 22 were in the 3D group and 20 in the atlas group. The baseline data were not significantly different. The difference of pre-test score was not significant, either. However, the post-test score was significantly greater in the 3D group (P = 0.005), and the change in score was also significantly greater in the 3D group (P < 0.001). In accordance with the objective test, the subjective survey through a questionnaire from participants in the 3D group showed that 3D models significantly promoted the learning curve of this kind of complex skull base surgery., Conclusions: 3D-printed models can assist in improving the learning curve of surgery of tuberculum sellae meningiomas. It particularly aids in memorization and spatial construction, improves understanding of surgical view, and arouses interest on the part of the trainee. Objective: To study the anatomy and clinical application of monolateral pterional keyhole approaches for treating bilateral cerebral aneurysms., Methods: Twelve formalin-fixed cadaveric heads underwent right pterional keyhole approaches for management of simulative contralateral aneurysms. The length of the contralateral middle cerebral artery (MCA), distal internal carotid artery (DICA), anterior cerebral artery, and ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery (OICA) was recorded. The operability of contralateral aneurysms was assessed using a modified numeric grading system. A total of 16 patients (12 patients with ruptured aneurysms) with bilateral cerebral aneurysms undergoing contralateral pterional keyhole approaches were included., Results: The contralateral A1 segment of the anterior cerebral artery, proximal A2 segment, M1 segment of the MCA, DICA, and OICA was exposed via pterional keyhole approaches. An additional 2 mm of the OICA was exposed after incision of the falciform dural fold was completed. Contralateral aneurysms of the M1 segment (posterior), M2 segment, MCA bifurcation (inferior), A2 segment (lateral), DICA (posterior and lateral), and OICA (superior, inferior, and lateral) could not be fully exposed to perform simulated surgical clipping (operability rate <75%). A total of 36 aneurysms underwent adequate surgical clipping via unilateral pterional keyhole approaches, whereas 1 aneurysm of the A3 segment did not., Conclusions: Contralateral aneurysms of the M1 segment (anterior, superior, and inferior), MCA bifurcation (superior and lateral), A1 segment, A2 segment (anterior, posterior, and medial), internal carotid artery bifurcation, DICA (anterior and medial), and OICA (medial) were fully exposed from different angles and surgical maneuvers were performed via pterional keyhole approaches, including in patients presenting with subarachnoid hemorrhage., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of percutaneous needle aspiration (PNA) and percutaneous catheter drainage (PCD) in the management of liver abscess., Methods: Electronic searches (Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, SCIE) were conducted to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing PNA and PCD. A meta-analysis was subsequently performed., Results: A total of five RCTs covering 306 patients were included. The meta-analysis showed that outcomes in patients treated with PCD were superior to those in patients treated with PNA in terms of success rate [relative risk (RR): 0.81, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.66-0.99; P = 0.04], clinical improvement [standardized mean difference (SMD): -0.73, 95% CI 0.36-1.11; P = 0.0001] and days to achieve a 50% reduction in abscess cavity size (SMD: -1.08, 95% CI 0.64-1.53; P < 0.00001). No significant differences were found in duration of hospitalization (mean difference: -0.17, 95% CI -2.10 to 1.75; P = 0.86) or procedure-related complications (RR: 0.50, 95% CI 0.10-2.63; P = 0.41). Days to achieve the total or near total resolution of the abscess cavity and mortality were not calculated because data in the RCTs in the meta-analysis were insufficient., Conclusions: Both PNA and PCD are safe methods of draining liver abscesses. However, PCD is more effective than PNA because it facilitates a higher success rate, reduces the time required to achieve clinical relief and supports a 50% reduction in abscess cavity size. Background: Reports on the relationship between pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) and gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) are conflicting. The frequency of PBM in GBC patients and the clinical features of GBC patients with PBM vary in different studies., Data Sources: English-language articles describing the association between PBM and GBC were searched in the PubMed and Web of Science databases. Nine case-control studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria and addressed the relevant clinical questions of this analysis. Data were extracted independently by two reviewers using a predefined spreadsheet., Results: The incidence of PBM was higher in GBC patients than in controls (10.60% vs 1.76%, OR: 7.41, 95% CI: 5.03 to 10.87, P<0.00001). The proportion of female patients with PBM was 1.96-fold higher than in GBC patients without PBM (80.5% vs 62.9%, OR: 1.96, 95% CI: 1.09 to 3.52, P=0.12). GBC patients with PBM were 10 years younger than those without PBM (SMD: -9.90, 95% CI: -11.70 to -8.10, P<0.00001). And a difference in the incidence of associated gallstone was found between GBC patients with and without PBM (10.8% vs 54.3%, OR: 0.09, 95% CI: 0.05 to 0.17, P<0.00001). Among the GBC patients with PBM, associated congenital dilatation of the common bile duct was present with a higher incidence ranging from 52.2% to 85.7%, and 70.0%-85.7% of them belonged to the P-C type of PBM (the main pancreatic duct enters the common bile duct). No substantial heterogeneity was found and no evidence of publication bias was observed., Conclusions: PBM is a high-risk factor for developing GBC, especially the P-C type of PBM without congenital dilatation of the common bile duct. To prevent GBC, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is highly recommended for PBM patients without congenital dilatation of the common bile duct, especially relatively young female patients without gallstones.

Background: Human CD8+CD28- T-suppressor (Ts) cells have been considered to indicate a reduced need for immunosuppression in pediatric liver-intestine transplant recipients and recipients of deceased heart-kidney transplants. However, in adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation (A-A LDLT) little information is available and the clinical significance is still unknown., Methods: Flow cytometry was used to detect the population of CD8+CD28- Ts cells present in peripheral blood in A-A LDLT recipients (n=31), patients with end-stage liver disease (n=24) and healthy controls (n=19). Meanwhile, we tested the graft function and trough levels of immunosuppression in recipients. The clinical and follow-up data of 31 transplant recipients were analyzed., Results: Compared with diseased controls (P=0.007) and healthy individuals (P=0.000), a notable expansion of CD8+CD28- Ts cells was found in recipients of A-A LDLT. This was associated with graft function, levels of immunosuppression and rejection episodes., Conclusions: To monitor the CD8+CD28- Ts cells levels is important to evaluate the immune state of recipients. Meanwhile, it is also important to promote expansion of CD8+CD28- Ts cells in recipients of A-A LDLT, not only to sustain good graft function and decrease the dosage of immunosuppressants, but also to reduce the occurrence of rejection.

An experiment was conducted using a total of 420, 1-d-old, Arbor Acres commercial male chicks to compare copper sulfate and tribasic copper chloride (TBCC) as sources of supplemental copper for broilers. Chicks were randomly allotted to 1 of 7 treatments for 6 replicates of 10 birds each and were fed a basal corn-soybean meal diet (11.45 mg/kg copper) supplemented with 0, 150, 300, or 450 mg/kg copper from copper sulfate or TBCC for 21 d. Chicks fed 450 mg/kg copper as copper sulfate had lower (P < 0.01) average daily feed intake and average daily gain than those consuming other diets. Feeding supplemental copper increased linearly (P < 0.0001) liver copper concentrations regardless of copper source. The slopes of regressions of log10 liver copper on different independent variables used in regressions differ (P < 0.05) between the 2 copper sources. Linear regression over nonzero dietary levels of log10 transformed liver copper concentration on added copper intake resulted in a slope ratio estimate of 109.0 +/- 3.4% (with a 95% confidence interval from 102.2 to 115.8) for bioavailability of copper from TBCC compared with 100 for that in copper sulfate. When the feeds were stored at room temperature for 10 or 21 d, the vitamin E content in the feed fortified with 300 mg/kg copper as TBCC was higher (P < 0.01) than that in the feed added with 300 mg/kg copper as CuSO4. The vitamin E contents in liver and plasma of broilers given TBCC were also higher (P < 0.01) than those of birds fed copper sulfate. The results from this study indicate that TBCC is a safer product and more available to broilers than copper sulfate, and it is chemically less active than copper sulfate in promoting the oxidation of vitamin E in feed.
