The article explores the use of digital solutions to enhance energy efficiency in a steel rolling mill by optimizing operational parameters of the reheating furnace. Through the application of Six Sigma methodology and tools like Viridis Performance, the study aims to decrease electrical energy consumption without increasing fuel usage. Findings suggest that adjusting the furnace discharge temperature could potentially reduce electrical consumption by 2%. The research delves into various studies on hot rolling processes in steel mills, covering topics such as CO2-neutral heat generation, electricity consumption forecasting, process control, production process optimization, vibration analysis, sustainable scheduling, and statistical data analysis. Presented at AISTech 2024, an iron and steel technology conference in the USA, the research offers insights into technical approaches and methodologies for enhancing efficiency and sustainability in the steel industry.
