Abstract

This article discusses the improvements made in the process practices of steel production to reduce the occurrence of slivers in ultralow-carbon automotive exposed application grades at Ternium Brasil. The focus is on mitigating the formation and entrapment of non-metallic inclusions, which can cause cosmetic surface imperfections and formability problems. The article evaluates the various stages of steel production, from converter to continuous casting, and discusses the operational practices implemented to enhance the cleanliness of the steel and reduce the presence of non-metallic inclusions. These improvements have resulted in a significant decrease in defects, from 5% in 2022 to 0.2% in 2023. [Extracted from the article]
