We investigate the cosmological constraints that can be expected from measurement of the cross-correlation of galaxies with cosmic voids identified in the Euclid spectroscopic survey, which will include spectroscopic information for tens of millions of galaxies over $15\,000$ deg$^2$ of the sky in the redshift range $0.9\leq z, Comment: 20 pages, 13 figures

We present QUIJOTE intensity and polarization maps in four frequency bands centred around 11, 13, 17 and 19GHz, and covering approximately 29000 deg$^2$, including most of the Northern sky region. These maps result from 9000 h of observations taken between May 2013 and June 2018 with the first QUIJOTE instrument (MFI), and have angular resolutions of around $1^\circ$, and sensitivities in polarization within the range 35-40 $\mu$K per 1-degree beam, being a factor $\sim 2$-$4$ worse in intensity. We discuss the data processing pipeline employed, and the basic characteristics of the maps in terms of real space statistics and angular power spectra. A number of validation tests have been applied to characterise the accuracy of the calibration and the residual level of systematic effects, finding a conservative overall calibration uncertainty of 5%. We also discuss flux densities for four bright celestial sources (Tau A, Cas A, Cyg A and 3C274) which are often used as calibrators at microwave frequencies. The polarization signal in our maps is dominated by synchrotron emission. The distribution of spectral index values between the 11GHz and WMAP 23GHz map peaks at $\beta=-3.09$ with a standard deviation of 0.14. The measured BB/EE ratio at scales of $\ell=80$ is $0.26\pm 0.07$ for a Galactic cut $|b|>10^\circ$. We find a positive TE correlation for 11GHz at large angular scales ($\ell \lesssim 50$), while the EB and TB signals are consistent with zero in the multipole range $30 \lesssim \ell \lesssim 150$. We derive linearly polarized astrophysical component maps in the Northern Sky from the QUIJOTE-MFI data at 11 and 13 GHz in combination with the WMAP K and Ka bands (23 and 33 GHz) and all Planck polarized channels (30-353 GHz), using the parametric component separation method B-SeCRET. The addition of QUIJOTE-MFI data significantly improves the parameter estimation of the low-frequency foregrounds, especially the estimation of the synchrotron spectral index, $\beta_s$. We present the first detailed $\beta_s$ map of the Northern Celestial Hemisphere at a smoothing scale of $2^{\circ}$. We find statistically significant spatial variability across the sky. We obtain an average value of $-3.08$ and a dispersion of $0.13$, considering only pixels with reliable goodness-of-fit. The power law model of the synchrotron emission provides a good fit to the data outside the Galactic plane but fails to track the complexity within this region. Moreover, when we assume a synchrotron model with uniform curvature, $c_s$, we find a value of $c_s = -0.0797 \pm 0.0012$. However, there is insufficient statistical significance to determine which model is favoured, either the power law or the power law with uniform curvature. Furthermore, we estimate the thermal dust spectral parameters in polarization. Our CMB, synchrotron, and thermal dust maps are highly correlated with the corresponding products of the PR4 Planck release, although some large-scale differences are observed in the synchrotron emission. Finally, we find that the $\beta_s$ estimation in the high signal-to-noise synchrotron emission areas is prior-independent while, outside these regions, the prior governs the $\beta_s$ estimation., Comment: 25 pages, 29 figures, Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We explore the capability of deep learning to classify cosmic structures. In cosmological simulations, cosmic volumes are segmented into voids, sheets, filaments and knots, according to the distribution and kinematics of dark matter (DM), and galaxies are also classified according to the segmentation. However, observational studies cannot adopt this classification method using DM. In this study, we demonstrate that deep learning can bridge the gap between simulations and observations. Our models are based on three-dimensional convolutional neural networks and trained with data of the distribution of galaxies in a simulation to deduce the structure classes from the galaxies rather than DM. Our model can predict the class labels as accurate as a previous study using DM distribution for the training and prediction. This means that galaxy distribution can be a substitution for DM for the cosmic-structure classification, and our models using galaxies can be directly applied to wide-field survey observations. When observational restrictions are ignored, our model can classify simulated galaxies into the four classes with an accuracy (macro-averaged $F_{\rm 1}$-score) of 64 per cent. If restrictions such as limiting magnitude are considered, our model can classify SDSS galaxies at $\sim100~{\rm Mpc}$ with an accuracy of 60 per cent. Standard full-shape clustering analyses in Fourier space rely on a fixed power spectrum template, defined at the fiducial cosmology used to convert redshifts into distances, and compress the cosmological information into the Alcock-Paczynski parameters and the linear growth rate of structure. In this paper, we propose an analysis method that operates directly in the cosmology parameter space and varies the power spectrum template accordingly at each tested point. Predictions for the power spectrum multipoles from the TNS model are computed at different cosmologies in the framework of $\Lambda \rm{CDM}$. Applied to the final eBOSS QSO and LRG samples together with the low-z DR12 BOSS galaxy sample, our analysis results in a set of constraints on the cosmological parameters $\Omega_{\rm cdm}$, $H_0$, $\sigma_8$, $\Omega_{\rm b}$ and $n_s$. To reduce the number of computed models, we construct an iterative process to sample the likelihood surface, where each iteration consists of a Gaussian process regression. This method is validated with mocks from N-body simulations. From the combined analysis of the (e)BOSS data, we obtain the following constraints: $\sigma_8=0.877\pm 0.049$ and $\Omega_{\rm m}=0.304^{+0.016}_{-0.010}$ without any external prior. The peculiar velocity distribution of cluster member galaxies provides a powerful tool to directly investigate the gravitational potentials within galaxy clusters and to test the gravity theory on megaparsec scales. We exploit spectroscopic galaxy and galaxy cluster samples extracted from the latest releases of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to derive new constraints on the gravity theory. We consider a spectroscopic sample of $3058$ galaxy clusters, with a maximum redshift of $0.5$. We analyse the velocity distribution of the cluster member galaxies to make new measurements of the gravitational redshift effect inside galaxy clusters. We accurately estimate the cluster centres, computing them as the average of angular positions and redshifts of the closest galaxies to the brightest cluster galaxies. We find that this centre definition provides a better estimation of the centre of the cluster gravitational potential wells, relative to simply assuming the brightest cluster galaxies as the cluster centres, as done in the past literature. We compare our measurements with the theoretical predictions of three different gravity theories: general relativity (GR), the $f(R)$ model, and the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) model. A new statistical procedure is used to fit the measured gravitational redshift signal and thus to discriminate among the considered gravity theories. Finally, we investigate the systematic uncertainties possibly affecting the analysis. We clearly detect the gravitational redshift effect in the exploited cluster member catalogue. We recover an integrated gravitational redshift signal of $-11.4 \pm 3.3$ km s$^{-1}$, which is in agreement, within the errors, with past literature works. Redshift measurement has always been a constant need in modern astronomy and cosmology. And as new surveys have been providing an immense amount of data on astronomical objects, the need to process such data automatically proves to be increasingly necessary. In this article, we use simulated data from the Dark Energy Survey, and from a pipeline originally created to classify supernovae, we developed a linear regression algorithm optimized through novel automated machine learning (AutoML) frameworks achieving an error score better than ordinary data pre-processing methods when compared with other modern algorithms (such as xgboost). Numerically, the photometric prediction RMSE of type Ia supernovae events was reduced from 0.16 to 0.09 and the RMSE of all supernovae types decreased from 0.20 to 0.14. Our pipeline consists of four steps: through spectroscopic data points we interpolate the light curve using Gaussian process fitting algorithm, then using a wavelet transform we extract the most important features of such curves; in sequence we reduce the dimensionality of such features through principal component analysis, and in the end we applied super learning techniques (stacked ensemble methods) through an AutoML framework dedicated to optimize the parameters of several different machine learning models, better resolving the problem. As a final check, we obtained probability distribution functions (PDFs) using Gaussian kernel density estimations through the predictions of more than 50 models trained and optimized by AutoML. Those PDFs were calculated to replicate the original curves that used SALT2 model, a model used for the simulation of the raw data itself.

T. N. Varga et al., We develop a novel data-driven method for generating synthetic optical observations of galaxy clusters. In cluster weak lensing, the interplay between analysis choices and systematic effects related to source galaxy selection, shape measurement, and photometric redshift estimation can be best characterized in end-to-end tests going from mock observations to recovered cluster masses. To create such test scenarios, we measure and model the photometric properties of galaxy clusters and their sky environments from the Dark Energy Survey Year 3 (DES Y3) data in two bins of cluster richness λ∈[30;45) ⁠, λ∈[45;60) and three bins in cluster redshift (⁠z∈[0.3;0.35) ⁠, z∈[0.45;0.5) and z∈[0.6;0.65) ⁠. Using deep-field imaging data, we extrapolate galaxy populations beyond the limiting magnitude of DES Y3 and calculate the properties of cluster member galaxies via statistical background subtraction. We construct mock galaxy clusters as random draws from a distribution function, and render mock clusters and line-of-sight catalogues into synthetic images in the same format as actual survey observations. Synthetic galaxy clusters are generated from real observational data, and thus are independent from the assumptions inherent to cosmological simulations. The recipe can be straightforwardly modified to incorporate extra information, and correct for survey incompleteness. One of the targets of future Cosmic Microwave Background and Baryon Acoustic Oscillation measurements is to improve the current accuracy in the neutrino sector and reach a much better sensitivity on extra dark radiation in the Early Universe. In this paper we study how these improvements can be translated into constraining power for well motivated extensions of the Standard Model of elementary particles that involve axions thermalized before the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phase transition by scatterings with gluons. Assuming a fiducial $\Lambda$CDM cosmological model, we simulate future data for Stage-IV CMB-like and Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI)-like surveys and analyze a mixed scenario of axion and neutrino hot dark matter. We further account also for the effects of these QCD axions on the light element abundances predicted by Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. The most constraining forecasted limits on the hot relic masses are $m_{\rm a} \lesssim 0.92$ eV and $\sum m_\nu\lesssim 0.12$ eV at 95 per cent Confidence Level, showing that future cosmic observations can substantially improve the current bounds, supporting multi-messenger analyses of axion, neutrino and primordial light element properties., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures. We observed 51 sources in the Q-U-I JOint TEnerife (QUIJOTE) cosmological fields that were brighter than 1 Jy at 30 GHz in the Planck Point Source Catalogue (version 1), with the Very Large Array at 28–40 GHz, in order to characterize their high-radio-frequency variability and polarization properties. We find a roughly lognormal distribution of polarization fractions with a median of 2 per cent, in agreement with previous studies, and a median rotation measure (RM) of ≈1110 rad m−2 with one outlier up to ≈64 000 rad m−2, which is among the highest RMs measured in quasar cores. We find hints of a correlation between the total intensity flux density and median polarization fraction. We find 59 per cent of sources are variable in total intensity, and 100 per cent in polarization at 3σ level, with no apparent correlation between total intensity variability and polarization variability. We introduce a novel approach to reconstruct dark matter mass maps from weak gravitational lensing measurements. The cornerstone of the proposed method lies in a new modelling of the matter density field in the Universe as a mixture of two components:(1) a sparsity-based component that captures the non-Gaussian structure of the field, such as peaks or halos at different spatial scales; and (2) a Gaussian random field, which is known to well represent the linear characteristics of the field.Methods. We propose an algorithm called MCALens which jointly estimates these two components. MCAlens is based on an alternating minimization incorporating both sparse recovery and a proximal iterative Wiener filtering. The nearby elliptical galaxy Cen A is surrounded by a flattened system of dwarf satellite galaxies with coherent motions. Using a novel Bayesian approach, we measure the mean rotation velocity $v_{\rm rot}$ and velocity dispersion $\sigma_{\rm int}$ of the satellite system. We find $v_{\rm rot}/\sigma_{\rm int} \simeq 0.7$ indicating that the satellite system has non-negligible rotational support. Using Jeans' equations, we measure a circular velocity of 258 km s$^{-1}$ and a dynamical mass of $1.2\times 10^{13}$ M$_\odot$ within 800 kpc. In a $\Lambda$CDM cosmological context, we find that the Cen A group has a baryon fraction $M_{\rm b}/M_{200}\simeq0.035$ and is missing $\sim$77$\%$ of the cosmologically available baryons. Consequently, Cen A should have a hot intergalactic medium with a mass of $\sim$8$\times$10$^{11}$ M$_\odot$, which is more than $\sim$20 times larger than current X-ray estimates. Intriguingly, The whole Cen A group lies on the baryonic Tully-Fisher relation defined by individual rotationally supported galaxies, as expected in Milgromian dynamics (MOND) with no need of missing baryons., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A, 7 pages, 3 figures, 1 table

DES Collaboration: M. Rodríguez-Monroy, N. Weaverdyck, J. Elvin-Poole et al., In this work, we present the galaxy clustering measurements of the two DES lens galaxy samples: a magnitude-limited sample optimized for the measurement of cosmological parameters, MAGLIM, and a sample of luminous red galaxies selected with the REDMAGIC algorithm. MAGLIM/REDMAGIC sample contains over 10 million/2.5 million galaxies and is divided into six/five photometric redshift bins spanning the range z ∈ [0.20, 1.05]/z ∈ [0.15, 0.90]. Both samples cover 4143 deg2 over which we perform our analysis blind, measuring the angular correlation function with an S/N ∼ 63 for both samples. In a companion paper, these measurements of galaxy clustering are combined with the correlation functions of cosmic shear and galaxy–galaxy lensing of each sample to place cosmological constraints with a 3 × 2pt analysis. We conduct a thorough study of the mitigation of systematic effects caused by the spatially varying survey properties and we correct the measurements to remove artificial clustering signals. We employ several decontamination methods with different configurations to ensure the robustness of our corrections and to determine the systematic uncertainty that needs to be considered for the final cosmology analyses. A. Leauthaud et al., Lensing without borders is a cross-survey collaboration created to assess the consistency of galaxy–galaxy lensing signals (ΔΣ) across different data sets and to carry out end-to-end tests of systematic errors. We perform a blind comparison of the amplitude of ΔΣ using lens samples from BOSS and six independent lensing surveys. We find good agreement between empirically estimated and reported systematic errors which agree to better than 2.3σ in four lens bins and three radial ranges. For lenses with zL > 0.43 and considering statistical errors, we detect a 3–4σ correlation between lensing amplitude and survey depth. This correlation could arise from the increasing impact at higher redshift of unrecognized galaxy blends on shear calibration and imperfections in photometric redshift calibration. At zL > 0.54, amplitudes may additionally correlate with foreground stellar density. The amplitude of these trends is within survey-defined systematic error budgets that are designed to include known shear and redshift calibration uncertainty. Using a fully empirical and conservative method, we do not find evidence for large unknown systematics. Systematic errors greater than 15 per cent (25 per cent) ruled out in three lens bins at 68 per cent (95 per cent) confidence at z < 0.54. Differences with respect to predictions based on clustering are observed to be at the 20–30 per cent level. Our results therefore suggest that lensing systematics alone are unlikely to fully explain the ‘lensing is low’ effect at z < 0.54. Planck Collaboration: et al., The largest temperature anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is the dipole, which has been measured with increasing accuracy for more than three decades, particularly with the Planck satellite. The simplest interpretation of the dipole is that it is due to our motion with respect to the rest frame of the CMB. Since current CMB experiments infer temperature anisotropies from angular intensity variations, the dipole modulates the temperature anisotropies with the same frequency dependence as the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect. We present the first, and significant, detection of this signal in the tSZ maps and find that it is consistent with direct measurements of the CMB dipole, as expected. NonGaussian cosmic shear statistics based on weak-lensing aperture mass ($M_{\rm ap}$) maps can outperform the classical shear two-point correlation function ($\gamma$-2PCF) in terms of cosmological constraining power. However, reaching the full potential of these new estimators requires accurate modeling of the physics of baryons as the extra nonGaussian information mostly resides at small scales. We present one such modeling based on the Magneticum hydrodynamical simulation for the KiDS-450 and DES-Y1 surveys and a Euclid-like survey. We compute the bias due to baryons on the lensing PDF and the distribution of peaks and voids in $M_{\rm ap}$ maps and propagate it to the cosmological forecasts on the structure growth parameter $S_8$, the matter density parameter $\Omega_{\rm m}$, and the dark energy equation of state $w_0$ using the SLICS and cosmo-SLICS sets of dark-matter-only simulations. We report a negative bias of a few percent on $S_8$ and $\Omega_{\rm m}$ and also measure a positive bias of the same level on $w_0$ when including a tomographic decomposition. These biases reach $\sim 5$% when combining $M_{\rm ap}$ statistics with the $\gamma$-2PCF as these estimators show similar dependency on the AGN feedback. We verify that these biases constitute a less than $1\sigma$ shift on the probed cosmological parameters for current cosmic shear surveys. However, baryons need to be accounted for at the percentage level for future Stage IV surveys and we propose to include the uncertainty on the AGN feedback amplitude by marginalizing over this parameter using multiple simulations such as those presented in this paper. Finally, we explore the possibility of mitigating the impact of baryons by filtering the $M_{\rm ap}$ map but find that this process would require to suppress the small-scale information to a point where the constraints would no longer be competitive., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, matching the version accepted in A&A

Friedrich, O., et al. DES Collaboration, We describe and test the fiducial covariance matrix model for the combined two-point function analysis of the Dark Energy Survey Year 3 (DES-Y3) data set. Using a variety of new ansatzes for covariance modelling and testing, we validate the assumptions and approximations of this model. These include the assumption of Gaussian likelihood, the trispectrum contribution to the covariance, the impact of evaluating the model at a wrong set of parameters, the impact of masking and survey geometry, deviations from Poissonian shot noise, galaxy weighting schemes, and other sub-dominant effects. We find that our covariance model is robust and that its approximations have little impact on goodness of fit and parameter estimation. The largest impact on best-fitting figure-of-merit arises from the so-called fsky approximation for dealing with finite survey area, which on average increases the χ2 between maximum posterior model and measurement by 3.7 per cent (Δχ2 ≈ 18.9). Standard methods to go beyond this approximation fail for DES-Y3, but we derive an approximate scheme to deal with these features. For parameter estimation, our ignorance of the exact parameters at which to evaluate our covariance model causes the dominant effect. We measure the anisotropic clustering of the quasar sample from Data Release 16 (DR16) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS). A sample of 343 708 spectroscopically confirmed quasars between redshift 0.8 < z < 2.2 are used as tracers of the underlying dark matter field. In comparison with DR14 sample, the final sample doubles the number of objects as well as the survey area. In this paper, we present the analysis in configuration space by measuring the two-point correlation function and decomposing it using the Legendre polynomials. For the full-shape analysis of the Legendre multipole moments, we measure the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) distance and the growth rate of the cosmic structure. At an effective redshift of zeff = 1.48, we measure the comoving angular diameter distance DM(zeff)/rdrag = 30.66 ± 0.88, the Hubble distance DH(zeff)/rdrag = 13.11 ± 0.52, and the product of the linear growth rate and the rms linear mass fluctuation on scales of $8 \, h{-1}\, {\rm Mpc}$, f?8(zeff) = 0.439 ± 0.048. The accuracy of these measurements is confirmed using an extensive set of mock simulations developed for the quasar sample. The uncertainties on the distance and growth rate measurements have been reduced substantially (?45 and ?30 per cent) with respect to the DR14 results. We also perform a BAO-only analysis to cross check the robustness of the methodology of the full-shape analysis. Combining our analysis with the Fourier-space analysis, we arrive at $D{{\bf c}}-{\rm M}(z-{\rm eff})/r-{\rm drag} = 30.21 \pm 0.79$, $D{{\bf c}}-{\rm H}(z-{\rm eff})/r-{\rm drag} = 13.23 \pm 0.47$, and $f\sigma-8{{\bf c}}(z-{\rm eff}) = 0.462 \pm 0.045$., In addition, this research relied on resources provided to the eBOSS Collaboration by the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC). The analysis of current and future cosmological surveys of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) at high redshift depends on the accurate photometric classification of the SN events detected. Generating realistic simulations of photometric SN surveys constitutes an essential step for training and testing photometric classification algorithms, and for correcting biases introduced by selection effects and contamination arising from core-collapse SNe in the photometric SN Ia samples. We use published SN time-series spectrophotometric templates, rates, luminosity functions, and empirical relationships between SNe and their host galaxies to construct a framework for simulating photometric SN surveys. We present this framework in the context of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) 5-yr photometric SN sample, comparing our simulations of DES with the observed DES transient populations. We demonstrate excellent agreement in many distributions, including Hubble residuals, between our simulations and data. We estimate the core collapse fraction expected in the DES SN sample after selection requirements are applied and before photometric classification. After testing different modelling choices and astrophysical assumptions underlying our simulation, we find that the predicted contamination varies from 7.2 to 11.7 per cent, with an average of 8.8 per cent and an r.m.s. of 1.1 per cent. Our simulations are the first to reproduce the observed photometric SN and host galaxy properties in high-redshift surveys without fine-tuning the input parameters. The simulation methods presented here will be a critical component of the cosmology analysis of the DES photometric SN Ia sample: correcting for biases arising from contamination, and evaluating the associated systematic uncertainty.

Axions, if realized in nature, can be copiously produced in the early universe via thermal processes, contributing to the mass-energy density of thermal hot relics. In light of the most recent cosmological observations, we analyze two different thermal processes within a realistic mixed hot-dark-matter scenario which includes also massive neutrinos. Considering the axion-gluon thermalization channel we derive our most constraining bounds on the hot relic masses $m_a < 7.46$ eV and $\sum m_��< 0.114$ eV both at 95 per cent CL; while studying the axion-pion scattering, without assuming any specific model for the axion-pion interactions and remaining in the range of validity of the chiral perturbation theory, our most constraining bounds are improved to $m_a, 9 pages, 3 figures. Metacalibration is a state-of-the-art technique for measuring weak gravitational lensing shear from well-sampled galaxy images. We investigate the accuracy of shear measured with metacalibration from fitting elliptical Gaussians to undersampled galaxy images. In this case, metacalibration introduces aliasing effects leading to an ensemble multiplicative shear bias about 0.01 for Euclid, and even larger for the Roman Space Telescope, well exceeding the missions' requirements. We find that this aliasing bias can be mitigated by computing shapes from weighted moments with wider Gaussians as weight functions, thereby trading bias for a slight increase in variance of the measurements. We show that this approach is robust to the point-spread function in consideration and meets the stringent requirements of Euclid for galaxies with moderate to high signal-to-noise ratios. Potential evidence for primordial non-Gaussianity (PNG) is expected to lie in the largest scales mapped by cosmological surveys. Forthcoming 21cm intensity mapping experiments will aim to probe these scales by surveying neutral hydrogen (HI) within galaxies. However, foreground signals dominate the faint 21cm emission, meaning foreground cleaning is required to recover the cosmological signal. The effect this has is to damp the HI power spectrum on the largest scales, especially along the line-of-sight. Whilst there is agreement that this contamination is potentially problematic for probing PNG, it is yet to be fully explored and quantified. In this work we carry out the first forecasts on $f_\text{NL}$ that incorporate simulated foreground maps that are removed using techniques employed in real data. Using an MCMC analysis, we demonstrate that foreground cleaned data recovers hugely biased values ($f_\text{NL} = -102.1_{-7.96}^{+8.39}$ [68% CL]) on our $f_\text{NL}=0$ fiducial input. Introducing a model with fixed parameters for the foreground contamination allows us to recover unbiased results ($f_\text{NL} = -2.94_{-11.9}^{+11.4}$). However, it is not clear that we will have sufficient understanding of foreground contamination to allow for such rigid models. Treating the main parameter $k_\parallel^\text{FG}$ in our foreground model as a nuisance parameter and marginalizing over it, still recovers unbiased results but at the expense of much larger errors ($f_\text{NL} = 0.75^{+40.2}_{-44.5}$), that can only be reduced by imposing the Planck 2018 prior. Our results show that significant progress on understanding and controlling foreground removal effects is necessary in order to study PNG with HI intensity mapping., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures. The H0LiCOW collaboration inferred via gravitational lensing time delays a Hubble constant $H_0=73.3^{+1.7}_{-1.8}$ km s$^{-1}{\rm Mpc}^{-1}$, describing deflector mass density profiles by either a power-law or stars plus standard dark matter halos. The mass-sheet transform (MST) that leaves the lensing observables unchanged is considered the dominant source of residual uncertainty in $H_0$. We quantify any potential effect of the MST with flexible mass models that are maximally degenerate with H0. Our calculation is based on a new hierarchical approach in which the MST is only constrained by stellar kinematics. The approach is validated on hydrodynamically simulated lenses. We apply the method to the TDCOSMO sample of 7 lenses (6 from H0LiCOW) and measure $H_0=74.5^{+5.6}_{-6.1}$ km s$^{-1}{\rm Mpc}^{-1}$. In order to further constrain the deflector mass profiles, we then add imaging and spectroscopy for 33 strong gravitational lenses from the SLACS sample. For 9 of the SLAC lenses we use resolved kinematics to constrain the stellar anisotropy. From the joint analysis of the TDCOSMO+SLACS sample, we measure $H_0=67.4^{+4.1}_{-3.2}$ km s$^{-1}{\rm Mpc}^{-1}$, assuming that the TDCOSMO and SLACS galaxies are drawn from the same parent population. The blind H0LiCOW, TDCOSMO-only and TDCOSMO+SLACS analyses are in mutual statistical agreement. The TDCOSMO+SLACS analysis prefers marginally shallower mass profiles than H0LiCOW or TDCOSMO-only. While our new analysis does not statistically invalidate the mass profile assumptions by H0LiCOW, and thus their $H_0$ measurement relying on those, it demonstrates the importance of understanding the mass density profile of elliptical galaxies. The uncertainties on $H_0$ derived in this paper can be reduced by physical or observational priors on the form of the mass profile, or by additional data, chiefly spatially resolved kinematics of lens galaxies., Comment: accepted by A&A. Galaxy cluster counts in bins of mass and redshift have been shown to be a competitive probe to test cosmological models. This method requires an efficient blind detection of clusters from surveys with a well-known selection function and robust mass estimates. The Euclid wide survey will cover 15000 deg$^2$ of the sky in the optical and near-infrared bands, down to magnitude 24 in the $H$-band. The resulting data will make it possible to detect a large number of galaxy clusters spanning a wide-range of masses up to redshift $\sim 2$. This paper presents the final results of the Euclid Cluster Finder Challenge (CFC). The objective of these challenges was to select the cluster detection algorithms that best meet the requirements of the Euclid mission. The final CFC included six independent detection algorithms, based on different techniques, such as photometric redshift tomography, optimal filtering, hierarchical approach, wavelet and friend-of-friends algorithms. These algorithms were blindly applied to a mock galaxy catalog with representative Euclid-like properties. The relative performance of the algorithms was assessed by matching the resulting detections to known clusters in the simulations. Several matching procedures were tested, thus making it possible to estimate the associated systematic effects on completeness to $80$% completeness for a mean purity of 80% down to masses of $10^{14}$ M$_{\odot}$ and up to redshift $z=2$. Based on these results, two algorithms were selected to be implemented in the Euclid pipeline, the AMICO code, based on matched filtering, and the PZWav code, based on an adaptive wavelet approach. The large-scale CMB B-mode polarization is the direct probe to the low frequency primordial gravitational wave signal. However, unambiguous measurement of this signal requires a precise understanding of the possible contamination. One such potential contamination arises from the patchiness in the spatial distribution of free electrons during the epoch of reionization. We estimate the B-mode power spectrum due to patchy reionization using a combination of \emph{photon-conserving} semi-numerical simulation and analytical calculation, and compare its amplitude with the primordial B-mode signal. For a reionization history which is in agreement with several latest observations, we find that a stronger secondary B-mode polarization signal is produced when the reionization is driven by the sources in massive halos and its amplitude can be comparable to the recombination bump for tensor to scalar ratio $(r) \lesssim 5 \times 10^{-4}$. If contamination from patchy reionization is neglected in the analysis of B-mode polarization data, then for the models of reionization considered in this analysis, we find a maximum bias of about $30\%$ in the value of $r=\,10^{-3}$ when spatial modes between $\ell \in [50, 200]$ are used with a delensing efficiency of $50\%$. The inferred bias from patchy reionization is not a severe issue for the upcoming ground-based CMB experiment Simons Observatory, but can be a potential source of confusion for proposed CMB experiments which target to detect the value of $r< 10^{-3}$. We present the X-ray properties of 108 Dust-Obscured Galaxies (DOGs; F$_{24 \mu m}$/F$_{R} >$ 1000) in the COSMOS field, all of which detected in at least three far-infrared bands with the Herschel Observatory. Out of the entire sample, 22 are individually detected in the hard 2-8 keV X-ray band by the Chandra COSMOS Legacy survey, allowing us to classify them as AGN. Of them, 6 (27%) are Compton Thick AGN candidates with column densities N$_{H}$$>$10$^{24}$ cm$^{-2}$ while 15 are moderately obscured AGNs with 10$^{22}$ $, Comment: To be published in ApJ

We present a simultaneous analysis of galaxy cluster scaling relations between weak-lensing mass and multiple cluster observables, across a wide range of wavelengths, that probe both gas and stellar content. Our new hierarchical Bayesian model simultaneously considers the selection variable alongside all other observables in order to explicitly model intrinsic property covariance and account for selection effects. We apply this method to a sample of 41 clusters at $0.15, Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures

We studied physical properties of matter in 24,544 filaments ranging from 30 to 100 Mpc in length, identified in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). We stacked the Comptonization y map produced by the Planck Collaboration around the filaments, excluding the resolved galaxy groups and clusters above a mass of ~3*10^13 Msun. We detected the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich signal for the first time at a significance of 4.4 sigma in filamentary structures on such a large scale. We also stacked the Planck cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing convergence map in the same manner and detected the lensing signal at a significance of 8.1 sigma. To estimate physical properties of the matter, we considered an isothermal cylindrical filament model with a density distribution following a beta-model (beta=2/3). Assuming that the gas distribution follows the dark matter distribution, we estimate that the central gas and matter overdensity and gas temperature are overdensity = (19.0 +27.3 -12.1) and temperature = (1.2 +- 0.4)*10^6 K, which results in a measured baryon fraction of (0.080 +0.116 -0.051) * Omega_b., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication by A&A

We use three semi-analytical models (SAMs) of galaxy formation and evolution run on the same 1 h(-1) Gpc MultiDark Planck2 cosmological simulation to investigate the properties of [O II] emission line galaxies at redshift z similar to 1. We compare model predictions with different observational data sets, including DEEP2-FIREFLY galaxies with absolute magnitudes. We estimate the [O II] luminosity (L[O II]) of our model galaxies using the public code GET EMLINES, which ideally assumes as input the instantaneous star formation rates (SFRs). This property is only available in one of the SAMs under consideration, while the others provide average SFRs, as most models do. We study the feasibility of inferring galaxies' L[O II] from average SFRs in post-processing. We find that the result is accurate for model galaxies with dust attenuated L[O II] less than or similar to 10(42.2) erg s(-1) (< 5 per cent discrepancy). The galaxy properties that correlate the most with the model L[O II] are the SFR and the observed-frame u and g broad-band magnitudes. Such correlations have r-values above 0.64 and a dispersion that varies with L[O II]. We fit these correlations with simple linear relations and use them as proxies for L[O II], together with an observational conversion that depends on SFR and metallicity. These proxies result in [O II] luminosity functions and halo occupation distributions with shapes that vary depending on both the model and the method used to derive L[O II]. We test for reliability any signatures of field galaxies clustering in the GRB 021004 line of sight. The first signature is the GRB 021004 field photometric redshifts distribution based on the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences observations with a peak near z = 0.56 estimated from multicolor photometry in the GRB direction. The second signature is the Mg II 2796, 2803AA absorption doublet at z = 0.56 in VLT/UVES spectra obtained for the GRB 021004 afterglow. The third signature is the galaxy clustering in a larger (of about 3 sq.deg.) area around GRB 021004 with an effective peak near z = 0.56 for both the spectral and photometric redshifts from a few catalogs of clusters based on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) as a part of SDSS-III. From catalog data the size of the whole inhomogeneity in distribution of the galaxy cluster with the peak near z = 0.56 was also estimated as about 6--8 deg. or 140--190 Mpc. A possibility of inhomogeneity (a galaxy cluster) near the GRB 021004 direction can be also confirmed by an inhomogeneity in cosmic microwave background related with the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect., Comment: 23 pages, 13 figures

We derive cosmological constraints using a galaxy cluster sample selected from the 2500~deg$^2$ SPT-SZ survey. The sample spans the redshift range $0.25< z5$. Using a thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (tSZ) signal, we search for hot gas in superclusters identified using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS/DR7) galaxies. We stack a Comptonization y map produced by the Planck Collaboration around the superclusters and detect the tSZ signal at a significance of 6.4 sigma. We further search for an intercluster component of gas in the superclusters. For this, we remove the intracluster gas in the superclusters by masking all galaxy groups/clusters detected by the Planck tSZ, ROSAT X-ray, and SDSS optical surveys down to a total mass of 10^13 Msun. We report the first detection of intercluster gas in superclusters with y = (3.5 +- 1.4) * 10^(-8) at a significance of 2.5 sigma. Assuming a simple isothermal and flat density distribution of intercluster gas over superclusters, the estimated baryon density is (Omega_gas / Omega_b) * (T_e/(8*10^6 K)) = 0.067 +- 0.006 +- 0.025. This quantity is inversely proportional to the temperature, therefore taking values from simulations and observations, we find that the gas density in superclusters may account for 17 - 52 % of missing baryons at low redshifts. The dipole anisotropy seen in the {cosmic microwave background radiation} is interpreted as due to our peculiar motion. The Cosmological Principle implies that this cosmic dipole signal should also be present, with the same direction, in the large-scale distribution of matter. Measurement of the cosmic matter dipole constitutes a key test of the standard cosmological model. Current measurements of this dipole are barely above the expected noise and unable to provide a robust test. Upcoming radio continuum surveys with the SKA should be able to detect the dipole at high signal to noise. We simulate number count maps for SKA survey specifications in Phases 1 and 2, including all relevant effects. Nonlinear effects from local large-scale structure contaminate the {cosmic (kinematic)} dipole signal, and we find that removal of radio sources at low redshift ($z\lesssim 0.5$) leads to significantly improved constraints. We forecast that the SKA could determine the kinematic dipole direction in Galactic coordinates with an error of $(\Delta l,\Delta b)\sim(9^\circ,5^\circ)$ to $(8^\circ, 4^\circ)$, depending on the sensitivity. The predicted errors on the relative speed are $\sim 10\%$. These measurements would significantly reduce the present uncertainty on the direction of the radio dipole, and thus enable the first critical test of consistency between the matter and CMB dipoles., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, 4 tables. Weak lensing will play an important role in future cosmological surveys, including e.g. Euclid and SKA. Sufficiently accurate theoretical predictions are important for correctly interpreting these surveys and hence for extracting correct cosmological parameter estimations. We quantify for the first time in a relativistic setting how many post-Born and lens-lens coupling corrections are required for sub-percent accuracy of the theoretical weak lensing convergence for $z\le 2$ (the primary weak lensing range for Euclid and SKA). We do this by ray-tracing through a fully relativistic exact solution of the Einstein Field Equations which consists of randomly packed mass-compensated underdensities of realistic amplitudes. We find that including lens-lens coupling terms and post-Born corrections up to second and third order respectively is sufficient for sub-percent accuracy of the convergence along $94\%$ of the studied light rays. We also find that a significant percentage of the studied rays have post-Born corrections of size over $10\%$ of the usual gravitational convergence, $\kappa^{(1)}$, and several rays even have post-Born corrections several times the size of $\kappa^{(1)}$ at $z = 2$., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. v2: More data added with figures and text changed appropriately. We explore the use of the cosmic infrared background as a tracer of the LSS for cross-correlating with the CMB and exploit the ISW. We use the improved linear CIB model of Maniyar et al (2018) and derive the theoretical CIBxISW cross-correlation for Planck HFI frequencies 217, 353, 545 and 857 GHz and IRAS 3000 GHz. We predict a positive cross-correlation between the CIB and CMB whose amplitude decreases rapidly at small scales. We perform a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) analysis on this cross-correlation. In the ideal case of the cross-correlation obtained over 70% (40%) of the sky with no residual contaminants (e.g. galactic dust) in maps, the SNR ranges from 4.2-5.6 (3.2-4.3) with the highest for 857 GHz. A Fisher matrix analysis shows that an ISW signal detected with such high SNR on the 40% sky can improve the constraints on the cosmological parameters considerably; constraints on the equation of state of the dark energy are improved by 80%. We then perform a more realistic analysis with the effect of residual galactic dust contamination in CIB maps. We calculate the dust power spectra for several frequencies and sky fractions which dominate over CIB at lower multipoles we are interested in. Considering conservative 10% residual level of galactic dust in the CIB power spectra, we find that the SNR drops drastically making ISW detection difficult. To check the capability of current maps to detect ISW via this method, we measure the cross-correlation of the CIB and the CMB Planck maps on so called GASS field covering an area of 11% in the southern hemisphere. We find that with such a small sky fraction and dust residuals present in CIB maps, we do not detect ISW signal and the measured signal is consistent with zero. In order not to degrade the SNR for the ISW measurement by more than 10% on the 40% sky, we find that the dust needs to be cleaned up to 0.01% level on the power spectrum., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in A&A

The source-subtracted cosmic infrared background (CIB) fluctuations uncovered in deep Spitzer data cannot be explained by known galaxy populations and appear strongly coherent with unresolved cosmic X-ray background (CXB). This suggests that the source-subtracted CIB contains emissions from significantly abundant accreting black holes (BHs). We show that theoretically such populations would have the angular power spectrum which is largely independent of the epochs occupied by these sources, provided they are at z>~ 4, offering an important test of the origin of the new populations. Using the current measurements we reconstruct the underlying soft X-ray CXB from the new sources and show that its fluctuations, while consistent with a high-z origin, have an amplitude that cannot be reached in direct measurements with the foreseeable X-ray space missions. This necessitates application of the methods developed by the authors to future IR and X-ray datasets, which must cover large areas of the sky in order to measure the signal with high precision. The LIBRAE project within ESA's Euclid mission will probe source-subtracted CIB over ~1/2 the sky at three near-IR bands, and its cross-power with unresolved CXB can be measured then from the concurrent eROSITA mission covering the same areas of the sky. We discuss the required methodology for this measurement and evaluate its projected S/N to show the unique potential of this experimental configuration to accurately probe the CXB from the new BH sources and help identify their epochs., Astrophysical Journal Letters, to be published

Studies of galaxy clusters provide stringent constraints on models of structure formation. Provided that selection effects are under control, large X-ray surveys are well suited to derive cosmological parameters, in particular those governing the dark energy equation of state. We forecast the capabilities of the all-sky eROSITA (the extended ROentgen Survey with an Imaging Telescope Array) survey to be achieved by the early 2020s. We bring special attention to modeling the entire chain from photon emission to source detection and cataloguing. The selection function of galaxy clusters for the upcoming eROSITA mission is investigated by means of extensive and dedicated Monte-Carlo simulations. Employing a combination of accurate instrument characterization and of state-of-the-art source detection technique, we determine a cluster detection efficiency based on the cluster fluxes and sizes. Using this eROSITA cluster selection function, we find that eROSITA will detect a total of $\sim 10^5$ clusters in the extra-galactic sky. This number of clusters will allow eROSITA to put stringent constraints on cosmological models. We show that incomplete assumptions on selection effects, such as neglecting the distribution of cluster sizes, induce a bias in the derived value of cosmological parameters. Synthetic simulations of the eROSITA sky capture the essential characteristics impacting the next-generation galaxy cluster surveys and they highlight parameters requiring tight monitoring in order to avoid biases in cosmological analyses., Comment: Accepted in A&A. We present a new method to estimate shear measurement bias in image simulations that significantly improves the precision with respect to current techniques. Our method is based on measuring the shear response for individual images. We generated sheared versions of the same image to measure how the galaxy shape changes with the small applied shear. This shear response is the multiplicative shear bias for each image. In addition, we also measured the individual additive bias. Using the same noise realizations for each sheared version allows us to compute the shear response at very high precision. The estimated shear bias of a sample of galaxies is then the average of the individual measurements. The precision of this method leads to an improvement with respect to previous methods concerned with the precision of estimates of multiplicative bias since our method is not affected by noise from shape measurements, which until now has been the dominant uncertainty. As a consequence, the method does not require shape-noise suppression for a precise estimation of shear multiplicative bias. Our method can be readily used for numerous applications such as shear measurement validation and calibration, reducing the number of necessary simulated images by a few orders of magnitude to achieve the same precision., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures

Luminous tracers of large-scale structure are not entirely representative of the distribution of mass in our Universe. As they arise from the highest peaks in the matter density field, the spatial distribution of luminous objects is biased towards those peaks. On large scales, where density fluctuations are mild, this bias simply amounts to a constant offset in the clustering amplitude of the tracer, known as linear bias. In this work we focus on the relative bias between galaxies and galaxy clusters that are located inside and in the vicinity of cosmic voids, extended regions of relatively low density in the large-scale structure of the Universe. With the help of hydro-dynamical simulations we verify that the relation between galaxy and cluster overdensity around voids remains linear. Hence, the void-centric density profiles of different tracers can be linked by a single multiplicative constant. This amounts to the same value as the relative linear bias between tracers for the largest voids in the sample. For voids of small sizes, which typically arise in higher density regions, this constant has a higher value, possibly showing an environmental dependence similar to that observed for the linear bias itself. We confirm our findings by analysing mocks and data obtained during the first year of observations by the Dark Energy Survey. As a side product, we present the first catalogue of three-dimensional voids extracted from a photometric survey with a controlled photo-z uncertainty. We present a three-dimensional model of polarised galactic dust emission that takes into account the variation of the dust density, spectral index and temperature along the line of sight, and contains randomly generated small scale polarisation fluctuations. The model is constrained to match observed dust emission on large scales, and match on smaller scales extrapolations of observed intensity and polarisation power spectra. This model can be used to investigate the impact of plausible complexity of the polarised dust foreground emission on the analysis and interpretation of future CMB polarisation observations., Comment: 23 pages, 21 figures

The XMM Cluster Archive Super Survey (X-CLASS) is a serendipitously-detected X-ray-selected sample of 845 galaxy clusters based on 2774 XMM archival observations and covering approximately 90 deg$^2$ spread across the high-Galactic latitude ($|b|>20$ deg) sky. The primary goal of this survey is to produce a well-selected sample of galaxy clusters on which cosmological analyses can be performed. This article presents the photometric redshift followup of a high signal-to-noise subset of 266 of these clusters with declination $\delta, Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. 26 pages, 14 figures. The E and B Experiment (EBEX) was a long-duration balloon-borne cosmic microwave background polarimeter that flew over Antarctica in 2013. We describe the experiment's optical system, receiver, and polarimetric approach, and report on their in-flight performance. EBEX had three frequency bands centered on 150, 250, and 410 GHz. To make efficient use of limited mass and space we designed a 115 cm$^{2}$sr high throughput optical system that had two ambient temperature mirrors and four anti-reflection coated polyethylene lenses per focal plane. All frequency bands shared the same optical train. Polarimetry was achieved with a continuously rotating achromatic half-wave plate (AHWP) that was levitated with a superconducting magnetic bearing (SMB). Rotation stability was 0.45 % over a period of 10 hours, and angular position accuracy was 0.01 degrees. This is the first use of a SMB in astrophysics. The measured modulation efficiency was above 90 % for all bands. To our knowledge the 109 % fractional bandwidth of the AHWP was the broadest implemented to date. The receiver that contained one lens and the AHWP at a temperature of 4 K, the polarizing grid and other lenses at 1 K, and the two focal planes at 0.25 K performed according to specifications giving focal plane temperature stability with fluctuation power spectrum that had $1/f$ knee at 2 mHz. We investigate whether a Gaussian likelihood, as routinely assumed in the analysis of cosmological data, is supported by simulated survey data. We define test statistics, based on a novel method that first destroys Gaussian correlations in a dataset, and then measures the non-Gaussian correlations that remain. This procedure flags pairs of datapoints which depend on each other in a non-Gaussian fashion, and thereby identifies where the assumption of a Gaussian likelihood breaks down. Using this diagnostic, we find that non-Gaussian correlations in the CFHTLenS cosmic shear correlation functions are significant. With a simple exclusion of the most contaminated datapoints, the posterior for $s_8$ is shifted without broadening, but we find no significant reduction in the tension with $s_8$ derived from Planck Cosmic Microwave Background data. However, we also show that the one-point distributions of the correlation statistics are noticeably skewed, such that sound weak lensing data sets are intrinsically likely to lead to a systematically low lensing amplitude being inferred. The detected non-Gaussianities get larger with increasing angular scale such that for future wide-angle surveys such as Euclid or LSST, with their very small statistical errors, the large-scale modes are expected to be increasingly affected. The shifts in posteriors may then not be negligible and we recommend that these diagnostic tests be run as part of future analyses., Comment: Replacement to match accepted MNRAS version

We explore the morphology of galaxies living in the proximity of cosmic voids, using a sample of voids identified in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7. At all stellar masses, void galaxies exhibit morphologies of a later type than galaxies in a control sample, which represent galaxies in an average density environment. We interpret this trend as a pure environmental effect, independent of the mass bias, due to a slower galaxy build-up in the rarefied regions of voids. We confirm previous findings about a clear segregation in galaxy morphology, with galaxies of a later type being found at smaller void-centric distances with respect to the early-type galaxies. We also show, for the first time, that the radius of the void has an impact on the evolutionary history of the galaxies that live within it or in its surroundings. In fact, an enhanced fraction of late-type galaxies is found in the proximity of voids larger than the median void radius. Likewise, an excess of early-type galaxies is observed within or around voids of a smaller size. A significant difference in galaxy properties in voids of different sizes is observed up to 2 Rvoid, which we define as the region of influence of voids. The significance of this difference is greater than 3sigma for all the volume-complete samples considered here. The fraction of star-forming galaxies shows the same behavior as the late-type galaxies, but no significant difference in stellar mass is observed in the proximity of voids of different sizes., Comment: Published in ApJL

Long wavelength spectral distortions in the Cosmic Microwave Background arising from the 21-cm transition in neutral Hydrogen are a key probe of Cosmic Dawn and the Epoch of Reionization. These features may reveal the nature of the first stars and ultra-faint galaxies that transformed the spin temperature and ionization state of the primordial gas. SARAS~2 is a spectral radiometer purposely designed for precision measurement of these monopole or all-sky global 21-cm spectral distortions. We use 63~hr night time observing of the radio background in the frequency band 110-200~MHz with the radiometer deployed at the Timbaktu Collective in Southern India to derive likelihoods for plausible redshifted 21-cm signals predicted by theoretical models. First light with SARAS 2 disfavors the class of models that feature weak X-ray heating (with $f_X \leq 0.1$) and rapid reionization (with peak $\frac{dT_b}{dz} \geq 120~\textrm{mK per unit redshift interval}$ )., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ Letters

Using Planck satellite data, we construct Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) gas pressure profiles for a large, volume-complete sample of optically selected clusters. We have defined a sample of over 8000 redMaPPer clusters from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, within the volume-complete redshift region 0.100 < z < 0.325, for which we construct SZ effect maps by stacking Planck data over the full range of richness. Dividing the sample into richness bins we simultaneously solve for the mean cluster mass in each bin together with the corresponding radial pressure profile parameters, employing anMonte Carlo Markov Chain analysis. These profiles are well detected over a much wider range of cluster mass and radius than previous work, showing a clear trend towards larger break radius with increasing cluster mass. Our SZ-based masses fall ~16 per cent below the mass-richness relations from weak lensing, in a similar fashion as the 'hydrostatic bias' related with X-ray derived masses. We present a study of the optical properties of the 26 most massive galaxy clusters selected within the SPT-SZ 2500 deg$^2$ survey. This Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect selected sample spans a redshift range of 0.10 < z < 1.13. We measure the galaxy radial profile, the luminosity function (LF), and the halo occupation number (HON) using optical data with a typical depth of $m^*$ + 2. The stacked radial profiles are consistent with a NFW profile with a concentration of $2.84^{+0.40}_{-0.37}$ for the red sequence (RS) and $2.36^{+0.38}_{-0.35}$ for the total population. Stacking the data in multiple redshift bins shows a hint of redshift evolution in the concentration when both the total population is used, and when only RS galaxies are used (at 2.1$\sigma$ and 2.8$\sigma$, respectively). The stacked LF shows a faint end slope $\alpha = -1.06^{+0.04}_{-0.03}$ for the total and $\alpha = -0.80^{+0.04}_{-0.03}$ for the RS population. The redshift evolution of $m^*$ is found to be consistent with a passively evolving Composite Stellar Population (CSP) model. By adopting the CSP model predictions, we explore the redshift evolution of the schechter parameters $\alpha$ and $\phi^*$. We find $\alpha$ for the total population to be consistent with no evolution (0.3$\sigma$), while evidence of evolution for the red galaxies is mildly significant (1.1-2.1$\sigma$). The data show that the density $\phi^*$/E$^2$(z) decreases with redshift, in tension with the self-similar expectation at a 2.4$\sigma$ level for the total population. The measured HON-mass relation has a lower normalization than previous studies at low redshift. Finally, our data support HON redshift evolution at a 2.1$\sigma$ level, with clusters at higher redshift containing fewer galaxies per unit mass to $m^*$ + 3 than their low-z counterparts [abridged]., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables, submitted to MNRAS, abstract abridged for arXiv submission
