We have observed that Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) exhibits instability in the denoising and separation of noisy multitone signals. Specifically, minor changes in factors such as signal-to-noise ratio, frequency spacing, sampling rate, and probability distribution can significantly impact the decomposition results. To address this issue, we have developed the Dual-VMD-correlation algorithm. This algorithm effectively mitigates the impact of beat effects when harmonics of closely spaced frequencies are superimposed, enabling stable denoising of noisy multitone signals and the separation of each individual tone signal. The algorithm holds promise for applications in frequency-modulated continuous wave laser detection. It can address challenges related to denoising laser echo signals interfered with by aerosols and the difficulty in separating backscatter interference from the target reflected signal spectrum. Within aerosol-rich environments, efficient simulation of frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) laser detector echo characteristics is crucial. Conventional methods often need more efficiency. To address this, we propose a photon matrix-based approach for simulating intricate photon scattering processes, enhancing simulation accuracy. This study focuses on short-range FMCW laser detection under aerosol interference, assessing performance via signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We analyze the impact of amplitude modulation coefficient and photon count on SNR. Surprisingly, the photon count minimally affects SNR, while the amplitude modulation coefficient significantly influences it. These findings shed light on optimizing FMCW laser detection in aerosol-laden environments. Attention to the amplitude modulation coefficient can notably enhance SNR and overall detection efficiency. We demonstrate an approach to two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) that combines the benefits of shot-to-shot detection at high-repetition rates with the simplicity of a broadband white light continuum input and conventional optical elements to generate phase-locked pump pulse pairs. We demonstrate this through mutual synchronization between the laser repetition rate, the acousto-optical deflector, the pump delay stage, and the CCD line camera, which allows for rapid scanning of pump optical delay synchronously with the laser repetition rate, while the delay stage is moved at a constant velocity. The resulting shot-to-shot detection scheme is repetition rate scalable and only limited by the CCD line rate and the maximum stage velocity. Using this approach, we demonstrate the measurement of an averaged 2DES absorptive spectrum in as much as 1.2 s of continuous sample exposure per 2D spectrum. We achieve a signal-to-noise ratio of 6.8 for optical densities down to 0.05 with 11.6 s of averaging at 100 kHz laser repetition rate. Combining rapid scanning of mechanical delay lines with shot-to-shot detection as demonstrated here provides a viable alternative to acousto-optic pulse shaping approaches that is repetition-rate scalable, has comparable throughput and sensitivity, and minimizes sample exposure per 2D spectrum with promising micro-spectroscopy applications. We demonstrated a stable passively Q-switched fiber laser operation at 1531.57 nm using a double-transition metal MAX phase TiNbAlC saturable absorber. The prepared saturable absorber's modulation depth, saturation intensity, and non-saturation loss are 1.75%, 0.089 MW/cm 2 , and 32.81%, respectively. Using the TiNbAlC saturable absorber within an erbium-doped fiber laser ring cavity, stable Q-switched pulses with a central wavelength of 1531.57 nm, and a 3-dB bandwidth of 1.43 nm are acquired. The minimum pulse duration and the maximum single pulse energy are 3.18 μ s and 51.56 nJ, respectively. Furthermore, the maximum repetition rate is 37.9 kHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of 50 dB. Our results indicate that double-transition metal MAX phase TiNbAlC can be an excellent saturable absorber candidate for an ultrashort pulse fiber laser. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Single-molecule and related experiments yield time series of an observable as it fluctuates due to thermal motion. In such data, it can be difficult to distinguish fluctuating signal from fluctuating noise. We present a method of separating signal from noise using nonlinear-correlation functions. The method is fully nonparametric: No a priori model for the system is required, no knowledge of whether the system is continuous or discrete is needed, the number of states is not fixed, and the system can be Markovian or not. The noise-corrected, nonlinear-correlation functions can be converted to the system's Green's function; the noise-corrected moments yield the system's equilibrium-probability distribution. As a demonstration, we analyze synthetic data from a three-state system. The correlation method is compared to another fully nonparametric approach—time binning to remove noise, and histogramming to obtain the distribution. The correlation method has substantially better resolution in time and in state space. We develop formulas for the limits on data quality needed for signal recovery from time series and test them on datasets of varying size and signal-to-noise ratio. The formulas show that the signal-to-noise ratio needs to be on the order of or greater than one-half before convergence scales at a practical rate. With experimental benchmark data, the positions and populations of the states and their exchange rates are recovered with an accuracy similar to parametric methods. β-Ga2O3 has attracted much recent attention as a promising ultrawide bandgap semiconductor. Hydrogen can affect the conductivity of β-Ga2O3 through the introduction of shallow donors and the passivation of deep acceptors. The introduction of H or D into β-Ga2O3 by annealing in an H2 or D2 ambient at elevated temperature produces different classes of O–H or O–D centers. This work is a study of the interaction of D with V Ga 1 and V Ga 2 deep acceptors as well as other impurities and native defects in Ga2O3 by infrared spectroscopy and the complementary theory. (We focus primarily on the deuterium isotope of hydrogen because the vibrational modes of O–D centers can be detected with a higher signal-to-noise ratio than those of O–H.) O–D centers in β-Ga2O3 evolve upon annealing in an inert ambient and are transformed from one type of O–D center into another. These reactions affect the compensation of unintentional shallow donors by deep acceptors that are passivated by D. Defects involving additional impurities in β-Ga2O3 compete with V Ga deep acceptors for D and modify the deuterium-related reactions that occur. The defect reactions that occur when D is introduced by annealing in a D2 ambient appear to be simpler than those observed for other introduction methods and provide a foundation for understanding the D-related reactions that can occur in more complicated situations. Non-Hermitian systems have been employed to construct a high-sensitivity sensor. To evaluate the performance of the sensors, the quantum Fisher information per photon, or equivalently signal-to-noise ratio per photon, is provided as a "true" sensing criterion, which avoids the trivial contribution from the photon numbers. The specific properties of non-Hermitian systems, e.g., exceptional points and skin effect, have been connected to the true exponentially enhanced sensing performance. To date, the relation between the non-Hermitian topological phase and the true sensing performance has not been reported clearly. Here, we construct the high-sensitivity sensor based on the non-Hermitian Su–Schrieffer–Heeger lattice and establish the relationship between the exponentially enhanced sensing and the non-Hermitian topologically nontrivial phase. The saturation of sensing with the size emerges in the sense of one perturbation. Such a limitation can be surpassed through the change of incident positions of driving fields, and the exponentially enhanced sensing reappears. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heteroepitaxial chemical vapor deposition is the most promising option to fabricate wafer-scale monocrystalline diamonds for quantum applications. Previously, we demonstrated the feasibility to manufacture functional micrometer-sized pyramids on as-grown heteroepitaxial diamond as well as their quantum optical characteristics. Due to high background signals and microfabrication challenges, these pyramids could not compete with homoepitaxially grown structures. In this study, we overcame these problems with a nominally undoped buffer layer between the heteroepitaxial substrate and the pyramidal microstructure to reduce the signal-to-noise ratio from the substrate on the spin measurements of the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center. Moreover, the microfabrication was improved to reach a higher angle of the pyramidal side plane, corresponding to the {111} facets. These improvements lead to pyramids on which each facet contains almost purely only one of the four possible NV orientations as shown by optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR). ODMR shows a very high contrast of 19% without an external magnet and of 13% for a single spin resonance in the presence of a magnetic field. The contrast is more than doubled compared to our previous study. The T 2 * dephasing time of the NV centers of the samples ranges from 0.02 to 0.16 μs. The characteristic frequency of a rub-impact fault is usually very complex and may contain higher harmonics and subharmonics. Due to the uncertainty of harmonic components and the complexity of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) operation, the general scale transformation stochastic resonance (GSTSR) has certain limitations in the identification of rub-impact faults. To solve this problem, the paper starts with complexity and proposes a rub-impact fault identification method combining a swarm intelligence optimized algorithm (SIOA) with Hjorth parameters and GSTSR. The complexity of vibration signals will change greatly before and after rub-impact faults. The complexity parameter in Hjorth parameters can effectively embody the complexity of signals and is invulnerable to noise interference. Therefore, the complexity parameter in the Hjorth parameters is taken as the objective function of SIOA and combined with GSTSR. Vibration signals from cases are taken as input to adaptive stochastic resonant (ASR) systems, and the system parameters are adaptively and synchronously adjusted to realize the maximal resonant effect. Finally, the spectrum analysis of signals obtained from ASR is used to extract failure features and recognize faults in the rotor–stator rub-impact. The proposed method is verified by comparing it with other schemes under different SIOAs and different operating conditions. The result of the comparison shows that the complexity parameter of the Hjorth parameters can be taken as the objective function of SIOA to accurately identify the rub-impact fault. Meanwhile, the proposed method, compared with the method of taking SNR as an objective function, has a better effect on reducing time costs and strengthening fault characteristics. In the pursuit of precise diagnostics for measuring negative ion density in a helicon plasma source (HPS), a new approach utilizing a radio frequency (RF) broadband transformer-based Langmuir probe is developed specifically for laser photo-detachment (LPD) analysis. This inductively coupled LPD technique is useful for high power RF systems in which capacitive RF noise is in the same scale as the pulsed photo-detachment signal. The signal acquired by this transformer-based probe is compared against the conventional Langmuir probe-based LPD technique, revealing a remarkable enhancement in signal fidelity through an improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) achieved by the RF broadband transformer methodology. In addition, the localized hydrogen negative ion density measurements obtained through this probe are harmoniously aligned with the line-averaged negative ion density derived from the cavity ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS) technique. These concurrence measurements highlight the RF broadband transformer-based approach's accuracy in capturing localized negative ion density during helicon mode operation in an HPS setup. Furthermore, the correlation of negative ion density values with RF input exhibits a consistent trend in tandem with background plasma density. Notably, both CRDS and LPD measurements ascertain negative ion densities ranging from ∼5 to 6×1016 m−3 under an RF power of 500–700 W and a pressure of 8 × 10−3 mbar, all under the influence of a 55 G axial magnetic field. These specific parameters represent the optimal operational configuration for effective negative ion production with the present experimental HPS setup. Micro-fabricated vapor cells have applications in a number of emerging quantum technology-based devices including miniaturized atomic magnetometers, atomic clocks, and frequency references for laser systems. Increasing the cell optical path length (OPL) and smallest cell dimension are normally desirable to increase the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and minimize the de-polarization rate due to collisions between atomic or molecular species and the cell walls. This paper presents a fully wafer-level scalable fabrication process to manufacture vapor cells with dimensions approaching those of glass-blown cells. The fabrication process is described, and spectroscopic measurements (optical absorption and magnetic resonance) are reported. A magnetic resonance linewidth of 350 Hz is demonstrated, and this is the smallest linewidth reported to date for a micro-fabricated vapor cell. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are promising for atomic-scale, ultralow-power, and highly tunable resonant nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) in sensing, communications, and computing. Toward these applications, a broad and controllable linear dynamic range (DR) is desirable for increasing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and reliability. Here, we develop a comprehensive strain-enhanced DR model for 2D NEMS resonators, which is experimentally verified through the tuning of DRs in 2D molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2) NEMS resonators using gate-induced strain. We find that the resonance frequency, quality factor, and nonlinear coefficient are all tuned by the gate voltage, which enhance the DR together. Through the guidance of the DR tuning model, we demonstrate DR enhancement by up to 26.9 dB (from 69.5 to 96.4 dB) in a 2D MoS2 NEMS resonator by properly tuning the gate voltage, leading to a theoretical mass resolution of 26 yg (1 yg = 10−24 g). To accurately extract the DR, we further differentiate the quality factors for thermomechanical resonances and for resonances at the largest linear amplitude. This gate-enhanced DR model is also verified using a MoTe2 resonator, with DR enhancement of 7 dB (91.2 to 98.2 dB). The results provide a promising pathway for accurately predicting and optimizing the DRs in NEMS resonators, toward enhanced sensitivity and SNR in mass sensing, radio frequency signal processing, memory, and computing applications. We describe the design principles, fabrication, and characterization of a precision AC resonant capacitance bridge (RCB) sensor, based on a resonant differential planar printed circuit board transformer with a solid (ungapped) MnZn ferrite core, demonstrating a short-term sensitivity at 293 K of 0.225 ± 0.005 aF/√Hz at around 120 kHz resonance frequency and 1 Hz Fourier measurement frequency. At 120 K, the RCB short term noise sensitivity is 0.118 ± 0.005 aF/√Hz. We compare the ungapped configuration to five different RCBs: three with a core gap of 65 μm and two with a core gap of 130 μm. Their average room temperature short term noise sensitivities are 0.30 ± 0.01 and 0.45 ± 0.01 aF/√Hz, while the cryogenic operation of these transformers at 120 K resulted in averaged sensitivities of 0.23 ± 0.01 and 0.36 ± 0.01 aF/√Hz, respectively. Multi-hour room temperature runs, with one core of each of the three gap types, proved the stability of their long-term sensitivities of 0.234 ± 0.005, 0.338 ± 0.009, and 0.435 ± 0.010 aF/√Hz for the ungapped (40-h duration) and the 65 and 130 μm (28-h duration) cores, respectively. At 0.1 mHz, a critical frequency for space gravitational wave detectors, the respective sensitivities are 0.25 ± 0.02, 0.35 ± 0.02, and 0.53 ± 0.07 aF/√Hz. Measurements with the ungapped transformer configuration for temperatures from 325 to 349 K further validate the dependence of the noise model on temperature and permeability. The performance of our RCB with an ungapped core matches the calculated performance value and shows an improvement in signal-to-noise ratio of two or more compared with capacitance bridges developed for similar applications. Ocean bottom electromagnetic receivers (OBEMs) are invaluable tools for observing seafloor electromagnetic signals, primarily used in magnetotelluric (MT) sounding and marine controlled source electromagnetics (MCSEM). However, the high operational costs of deploying OBEMs require thorough pre-deployment testing to enhance the data reliability and quality. Commercial signal generators used for MT and controlled source electromagnetic (CSEM) testing often fall short of the restricted terms of the frequency range, signal-to-noise ratio, storage depth, time synchronization, and amplitude dynamics. To address these limitations, we developed a specialized marine MT and CSEM signal simulative generator. The generator employs pseudorandom number code-based white noise to simulate MT signals and uses multi-frequency synthesis and amplitude modulation (AM) to generate CSEM signals. The system is developed using a low-power microcontroller unit and a field programmable gate array platform, integrating various circuits such as power, clock, encoding, control, data storage, chopper, and amplification circuits. The generator simultaneously outputs four-channel white noise and AM signals. The white noise feature provides a wide and adjustable frequency band and amplitude, while the AM feature provides a large dynamic amplitude range and multi-frequency synthesis at various carrier frequency points. Comprehensive testing verified the performance of the proposed simulative generator. The test results demonstrate that the MT simulated signals cover a frequency range from 1 E4s to 100 Hz, providing adjustable amplitudes between 10 μVpp and 10 mVpp. The CSEM simulated signals include standard square waves, third harmonic waves, and seventh harmonic waves, with amplitudes adjustable from 10 mVpp to 10 Vpp. The proposed simulative generator enhances the efficiency of OBEM functional testing and provides essential equipment support for maintaining the quality of marine data. Optical microcavity has proven its potential for unlabeled sensing. Here, we propose and demonstrate in a lithium niobate on insulator microcavity an enhanced sensing approach enabled by the nonlinear mode oscillation generated by the competition between thermal-optic and photorefractive effect, which breaks the intrinsic limitation in wavelength resolution set by the cavity's optical quality factor. It allows us to perform precise measurements of the mode shifting introduced by a nanoscale scatterer with a signal to noise ratio of 13.1 dB and paves a distinctive way to improve resonance shift resolution in widely studied microcavity sensors with a platform of great integration capability. Denoising algorithms for obtaining the effective data of depth images affected by random noise mainly focus on the processing of gray images. These algorithms are not distinct from traditional image-processing methods, and there is no way to evaluate the effectiveness of denoising after the point cloud transformation of denoised depth images. In this paper, the principle of fractional-order integral denoising is studied in detail and inverse distance weighted interpolation is introduced into a denoising model, which is based on the G–L (Grünwald–Letnikov) fractional-order integral to construct a fractional-order integral with an inverse distance weighted denoising model. The model is used to solve the blurring problem caused by sharp changes at the edge and achieves an excellent denoising effect. By using the optimized fractional-order integral denoising operator to construct a denoising model for depth images, the results of the experiments demonstrate that the fractional-order integral of the best denoising effect achieved by the model is −0.6 ≤ ν ≤ −0.4, and the peak signal-to-noise ratio is improved from +6 to +13 dB. In the same condition, median denoising has a distortion of −30 to −15 dB. The depth image that has been denoised is converted into an image of point clouds, and subjective evaluation indicates that the noise is effectively removed. On the whole, the results demonstrate that the fractional-order integral denoising operator with inverse distance weight shows the high efficiency and the outstanding effect in removing noise from depth images while maintaining the image related to the edge and texture information. In this paper, a fault feature extraction method based on the combination of computational order tracking (COT) and variational mode decomposition (VMD) is proposed to solve the problem of fault feature extraction in a gearbox under variable speed conditions. First, a speed estimation method based on a forward-backward greedy algorithm and Fourier fitting is proposed to solve the speed estimation problem under variable speed conditions. Then, a feature extraction method based on COT, VMD, and fast kurtometry is proposed. COT is used to calculate the order. After the signal is decomposed by VMD, a fast kurtogram is used to filter the modal components with obvious fault features so as to extract fault features. Finally, combined with the analysis of actual equipment examples, the experimental results show that steady-state filtering can effectively filter the background noise and improve the signal-to-noise ratio. The rotation speed estimated by the forward–backward greedy algorithm and Fourier fitting is very close to the actual speed, which verifies that the method proposed in this paper can effectively solve the problem of fault feature extraction of a gearbox under variable speed conditions. In this study, we investigated the effect of specific noise realizations on the discrimination of two consonants, /b/ and /d/. For this purpose, we collected data from twelve participants, who listened to /aba/ or /ada/ embedded in one of three background noises. All noises had the same long-term spectrum but differed in the amount of random envelope fluctuations. The data were analyzed on a trial-by-trial basis using the reverse-correlation method. The results revealed that it is possible to predict the categorical responses with better-than-chance accuracy purely based on the spectro-temporal distribution of the random envelope fluctuations of the corresponding noises, without taking into account the actual targets or the signal-to-noise ratios used in the trials. The effect of the noise fluctuations explained on average 8.1% of the participants' responses in white noise, a proportion that increased up to 13.3% for noises with a larger amount of fluctuations. The estimated time-frequency weights revealed that the measured effect originated from confusions between noise fluctuations and relevant acoustic cues from the target sounds. The steered response power (SRP) with phase transform algorithm has been demonstrated to be robust against reverberation and noise for single-source localization. However, when this algorithm is applied to multisource localization (MSL), the "peak missing problem" can occur, namely, that some sources dominate over others over short time intervals, resulting in fewer significant SRP peaks being found than the true number of sources. This problem makes it difficult to detect all the sources among the available SRP peaks. We propose an iteratively reweighted steered response power (IR-SRP) approach that effectively solves the "peak missing problem" and achieves robust MSL in reverberant noisy environments. The initial IR-SRP localization function is computed over the time-frequency (T-F) bins selected by a combination of two weighting schemes, one using coherence, and the other using signal-to-noise ratio. When iterating, our method finds the significant SRP peaks for the dominant sources and eliminates the T-F bins contributed by these sources using inter-channel phase difference information. As a result, the remaining sources can be found in subsequent iterations among the remaining T-F bins. The proposed IR-SRP method is demonstrated using both simulated and measured experiment data. Children's speech understanding is vulnerable to indoor noise and reverberation: e.g., from classrooms. It is unknown how they develop the ability to use temporal acoustic cues, specifically amplitude modulation (AM) and voice onset time (VOT), which are important for perceiving distorted speech. Through three experiments, we investigated the typical development of AM depth detection in vowels (experiment I), categorical perception of VOT (experiment II), and consonant identification (experiment III) in quiet and in speech-shaped noise (SSN) and mild reverberation in 6- to 14-year-old children. Our findings suggested that AM depth detection using a naturally produced vowel at the rate of the fundamental frequency was particularly difficult for children and with acoustic distortions. While the VOT cue salience was monotonically attenuated with increasing signal-to-noise ratio of SSN, its utility for consonant discrimination was completely removed even under mild reverberation. The reverberant energy decay in distorting critical temporal cues provided further evidence that may explain the error patterns observed in consonant identification. By 11–14 years of age, children approached adult-like performance in consonant discrimination and identification under adverse acoustics, emphasizing the need for good acoustics for younger children as they develop auditory skills to process distorted speech in everyday listening environments. For many applications that involve measuring ultrafast optical phenomena, the streak camera is the device of choice because of its excellent time resolution, its high sensitivity, the possibility to simultaneously measure lifetimes and spectra, and because it can capture the temporal dynamics in a single shot. Nevertheless, to obtain a good time resolution, often narrow slits have to be employed that restrict the image source area and, therefore, limit the light collection efficiency in the experiment. For some applications, it is therefore challenging to find an acceptable balance between the time resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. To overcome this limitation, we have devised the propagation synchronous integration principle for the streak camera, in which an effective spatio-dependent time-shift in the excitation of a sample is introduced and counteracted by the streak sweep, thereby effectively allowing for an increased image source area while maintaining the optimal time resolution. Using the Optronis streak camera with tunable streak sweep and large (1 mm) photocathode width, we could achieve a sevenfold increase in light collection efficiency without affecting the time resolution. Furthermore, we were also able to achieve an 11-fold increase in light collection at the cost of a 26% decrease in the time resolution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Large-scale linear transformer drivers (LTDs) are composed of numerous high-power gas switches, and switch prefire is a frequent operational fault. To detect and locate the faulty switch accurately and efficiently, a two-terminal location method is proposed. A B-dot sensor is integrated on the gas switch's shell to collect the discharging signal. All the B-dot sensors are connected in parallel through cables of equal length. The fault position can be determined by the time delay of the signals at the two terminals. A diode is inserted between the B-dot sensor's coil and the cable core to ensure low-loss transmission of the signal. Two methods are applied in fault location, including time-of-arrival (TOA) and time reversal (TR). For the TOA method, an energy criterion and a phase criterion are applied and compared. The accuracy of the energy criterion is greatly influenced by the signal-to-noise ratio, while the phase criterion requires a reasonable estimate of the actual delay to account for the impact of phase periodicity. The TR method based on a precise simulation model is established, which demonstrates high precision in location. The TR method has been tested and validated on a single stage LTD module. Moreover, the location method for double switches prefire is discussed theoretically. In the operation of MEMS gyroscopes, the feedthrough signal is inevitably introduced through the feedthrough capacitance and significantly affects the performance of MEMS gyroscopes. The common feedthrough cancellation methods highly depend on the microfabrication process and the structural symmetry of MEMS gyroscopes, which cannot effectively eliminate the feedthrough signal. In order to solve this problem, a new feedthrough cancellation method based on a fully differential configuration is proposed in this paper. The influence of the feedthrough effect is analyzed by establishing an equivalent circuit model including the feedthrough capacitance and described by the admittance diagram. Different drive and detection configurations are compared for the problem of feedthrough mismatch on different paths. Based on the theoretical analysis, a fully differential feedthrough cancellation scheme combined with two inverse feedthrough cancellation circuits is proposed. The deviation of feedthrough signal caused by the asymmetry of two differential paths can be adjusted by the two inverse feedthrough cancellation circuits. The fully differential configuration can further increase the drive force and suppress the common mode errors. The experimental results indicate that the feedthrough signal is suppressed in a large degree by the designed feedthrough cancellation method. The feedthrough level is reduced by 50.53 dB, and the amplitude of the effective signal increases from 4.10 to 9.46 dB. The signal-to-noise ratio has an improvement of 212.48% than that before feedthrough cancellation. The proposed feedthrough cancellation method can significantly reduce the interference of feedthrough signals on the effective signal, effectively improving the signal quality of MEMS gyroscopes. With the evolution of wearable systems, more and more people tend to wear wearable devices for health monitoring during sports. However, a large amount of motion artifact noise is introduced at this time, which is difficult to filter out due to its stochasticity. The amplitude and characteristics of motion artifact noise vary with changes in motion intensity. In order to filter out the motion artifact noise, the paperproposes a new particle algorithm, which can detect the intensity of the motion artifact for adaptive filtering, especiallysuitable for wearable health monitoring systems. In this algorithm, variational mode decomposition was first introduced to analyze the noisy electrocardiogram (ECG) signal in order to find the clean components. Then, the Laguerre estimation technique was applied to obtain an accurate ECG polar model. Taking this model as the state equation, a particle filter algorithm was defined to filter out the motion artifact noise. In the particle filter algorithm, we defined a parameter γ whose values were obtained from the six-axis data of motion sensor MPU6050 in our wearable device. This parameter γ could reflect the current noise levels and adaptively update the particle weights. Finally, some exercise experiments proved that the parameter γ could map the motion artifacts in real time and also demonstrated the superiority of the algorithm in terms of signal-to-noise ratio improvement and error reduction compared to other algorithms. The new particle filter algorithm proposed in this paper combines the six-axis data (three-axis accelerometer and three-axis gyroscope) with the ECG signal to effectively eliminate a large amount of motion artifact noise, thus solving the problem of excess noise from wearable devices when people are exercising, allowing them to accurately obtain real-time ECG health information. In this paper, we present the design and commissioning results of the upgraded collective Thomson scattering diagnostic at the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator. The diagnostic has a new radiometer designed to operate between the second and third harmonics of the electron cyclotron emission from the plasma at 171–177 GHz, where the emission background has a minimum and is of order 10–100 eV. It allows us to receive the scattered electromagnetic field with a significantly improved signal-to-noise ratio and extends the set of possible scattering geometries compared to the case of the original instrument operated at 140 GHz. The elements of the diagnostic are a narrowband notch filter and a frequency stabilized probing gyrotron that will allow measuring scattered radiation spectra very close to the probing frequency.
