In this study, two novel designs of Modular Mega prosthesis (MDF 1 and MDF 2) are generated with different geometries and dimensions, with a reference to a normal knee Modular Prosthesis emerging as one of the most promising alternatives to replace the outdated amputation procedures for bone cancer treatment. To obtain a prosthesis with full flexion ability, a better understanding of normal and healthy knees is needed. To replicate knee movements, 3–axis simulations to acquire interference between femoral condyles and the tibial base is applied to both designs and normal knee to better compare the range of movements. Volume interference as an indicator of high - flexion in knee rotation movements is established. The result showed that MDF 2 can give a superior result of flexion-extension rotations compared to normal knees and MDF 1. The range of movement in internal-external and varus-valgus rotations of normal knees is still higher than both MDF 1 and MDF 2, although the results of movement for both novel designs are not too distinctive. The simulations in this study showed that both designs, MDF 1 and MDF 2 have great potential as a solution after limb-salvage resection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the techniques that can improve the quality of the corrupted images is the filtration process, which is used for reducing the noise. The Median Filter (MDF) and the Mean Filter (MEF) are used for removing the Salt and Pepper noise (S&S). In this paper, new enhanced filter is introduced by modifying and combining the MDF with the MEF. The CMMF was tested using five standard images. The results showed very significant improvements that reached up to 40% and more. The filtration process was executed and tested at different noise densities varying from 10% to 50%. This study aims to determine the effect of grain size on magnetic susceptibility and median destructive field. The samples were iron sand taken from Senggigi beach, West Lombok. Samples were prepared in extract and non-extract. The extracted samples were then subjected to grinding for 1,2, 3, and 4 hours. Both extracted and non-extracted samples were tested using X-ray Fluoroscene (XRF) to determine the chemical element. The extracted sample was tested using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to detect magnetic mineral morphology. All samples were characterized using magnetic susceptibility and magnetic remanent stability by MDF analysis. Based on data analysis, the composition of iron sand is dominated by Fe, about 76.61% before extracting and 78.60% after extracting. The magnetic susceptibility of iron sand ranges from 4.896 x 10−4 m3 I kg to 6.333 x 10−4 m3 I kg. Magnetic remanent stability is indicated by an increase in MDF means that the magnetic mineral is dominated by Multi-Domain (MD). The grain size of the magnetic mineral decreases following the time of grinding. These results are supported by the SEM image. Based on the data, it can be concluded that if the magnetic mineral grain size is greater when the magnetic susceptibility decreases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pineapple (Ananas Cosmosus) is one of the plants that is easily cultivated in Indonesia. Pineapple leaf is one of the agricultural waste that has fiber that contains high levels of cellulose, which is very suitable for application as a raw material in the manufacture of medium density fiberboard (MDF). Moreover, adhesives that are commonly used in the manufacture of MDF are synthetic adhesives derived from fossil fuel which is limited, non-renewable, and have a negative impact on human and environmental. Therefore, an adhesive that is renewable and environmentally friendly is needed, such as cassava peel starch and citric acid. This research studied the effect of cassava peel starch and citric acid as a natural adhesive of fiberboard from pineapple leaf fiber. The method used in this research is semi-chemical pulping and wet-process. The mixture ratios of starch/citric acid were set at 100/0, 0/100, and 12/88 (w/w), while the adhesive content was set at 20 wt.%. The board was hot-pressed at 170oC for 25 min. The MDF was manufactured in 10 x 15 x 0,9 cm, with the target density 0.6 g/cm3. And then, the physical properties of fiberboard was tested in accordance JIS A 5905 2003 standard. The results showed that the MDF bonded with cassava peel starch and citric acid give a positive effect on the physical properties compared to MDF bonded with cassava peel starch only. This research is an approach to improve the surface roughness for acrylic door panel by using polishing process. The polishing process involve is sanding process by 3 types of sand paper. The sanding process used to improve the surface roughness by using the different grit sizes of sand paper. The experiment was done by using two types of material s, that is plywood and medium density board (MDF). These two materials are the main materials in producing the arcrylic door panel. The surface roughness of these two materials affects the qualities and quantities of the acrylic door panel. The surface structure was measured by using Optical Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and the surface roughness was measured by using Mitutoyo surfest SJ 400 Tester. Results indicates that using the different types of grit are influence the surface roughness of the material. When the higher types of grit sizes had been used, the average roughness of the surface are decrease.
