We apply Brown’s Foucauldian framework on neoliberalism to the COVID-19 crisis in the UK, and use qualitative content analysis to interpret the moral logics within 32 of Boris Johnson’s public statements on COVID-19. We present the content analysis in six parts. For the first four parts, we apply four elements of Brown’s framework: economization, governance, responsibilization, and sacrifice. Next, we explain two other moral logics—utilitarian and sympathetic. Johnson’s condensation of logics contains ideological connotations: neoliberal rationality serves the mass of people and the purpose of sympathy. Within Brown’s conceptual framework, the problem is not just the domination of the market, but the logic that grants the market legitimation as a human-centered logic. The adjustment we suggest is in recognizing the human-centered aspect as not a veneer for neoliberalism, but rather as a collection of disparate moral logics, combined with them smoothly on the surface, but messily underneath., W przedstawionym artykule stosujemy wypracowaną przez Browna Foucaultowską perspektywę ujęcia neoliberalizmu po to, by przyjrzeć się związanemu z pandemią COVID-19 kryzysowi w Zjednoczonym Królestwie. Używając jakościowej analizy treści, staramy się odsłonić moralną logikę stojącą za 32 publicznymi wypowiedziami Borisa Johnsona na temat COVID-19. Podzieliliśmy naszą analizę na sześć części. W pierwszych czterech częściach wykorzystujemy cztery kategorie wskazane przez Browna: ekonomizację, rządzenie, czynienie odpowiedzialnym i poświęcenie. Następnie objaśniamy dwie inne logiki moralne – utylitarystyczną i współczującą. Połączenie tych logik przez Johnsona niesie ideologiczny przekaz o następującej treści: neoliberalna racjonalność służy ludziom i ich wspiera. W ramach perspektywy Browna problemem jest nie tylko dominacja rynku, lecz także legitymizowanie rynku jako logiki skoncentrowanej na człowieku. Proponowane przez nas uzupełnienie polega na rozpoznaniu faktu, że owa skoncentrowana na człowieku logika nie jest pokostem neoliberalizmu, ale raczej zestawem niespójnych logik moralnych, spojonym jedynie na powierzchni, ale wewnątrz wciąż rozproszonym.

Mark Fisher wrote „the task of repoliticizing mental illness is an urgent one if the left wants to challenge capitalist realism.” This paper attempts to develop this thought and show how the repoliticization of issues defined as mental illnesses that could have an emancipatory potential and undermine capitalist realism could look like and how it could be related to the contemporary phenomenon of „psychedelic renaissance”. This repoliticization could constitute the first step towards acid communism – a step that would enable a comprehensive formulation of the project, the imagining of both acid communism itself as well as the road towards it. Even though psychedelics could provide an impulse for the change of the dominant psychiatric paradigm and the reorganization of mental health services, the process of the interception of these substances by the alienating and commodificating orders of psychiatry and capitalism can already be observed, so that both of the intertwined and mutually supporting orders can in fact be strengthened. From this perspective the institution of psychiatry becomes a key element preserving the status quo, which makes the imagining of the end of capitalism impossible. The article engages in a discussion with Martin Müller’s article In Search of a Global East through the categories of class and class distinction. While recognizing the potential political value of the “Global East” project, the author questions the ideological mechanisms which naturalize the stereotype of “Eastness as forsakenness.” As she points out, one of the effects of the “political and epistemological pro-ject” of the North–South divide (as well as stereotypical categorizations of the East) is obscuring the internal class dynamics of Northern, Southern and Eastern societies. In contrast, introducing class analysis – which includes exami-ning such practices as producing and buying counterfeits of original, luxury-brand commodities – allows us to uncover similar patterns of class distinction and reproduction across global capitalist societies of the North, South and East, and perhaps also to forge solidarities amongst classes which are regularly oppressed by the dominant global capitalist order., Artykuł podejmuje dyskusję z tekstem Martina Müllera, wprowadzając do namysłu nad pojęciem „globalnego wschodu” kategorię klasy i dystynkcji klasowej. Uznając potencjał polityczny projektu proponowanego przez Müllera, autorka podważa – częściowo powtórzone w jego artykule – ideologiczne mechanizmy naturalizujące stereotyp „Wschodu jako poczucia opuszczenia” (Eastness as forsakenness). Autorka zwraca uwagę, że jednym z efektów „politycznego i epistemologicznego projektu” podziału na Globalną Północ i Południe (oraz stereotypowych ujęć Wschodu) jest zaciemnianie podziałów klasowych wewnątrz północnych, południowych i wschodnich społeczeństw. Wprowadzenie analizy klasowej – uwzględniającej również takie jak praktyki kupowania i produkowania podróbek luksusowych marek – pozwala odkryć podobne wzory klasowej dystynkcji oraz reprodukcji klasowych hierarchii społeczeństw globalnego kapitalizmu. Może również pozwolić na zadzierzgnięcie opartych na solidarności relacji pomiędzy klasami regularnie prześladowanymi przez dominujący porządek globalnego kapitalizmu.

This article examines the concept of precarity from a feminist perspective, focused on love and affective labour, critically addressing the gender inequalities of neoliberal capitalism. The romantic, heterosexual model of love, typical for modern Western societies, has been dismantled and criticized in various ways, leading to contradictory solutions, which include its annihilation, sublation and modification, as well as (rather conservative) efforts to preserve it. However, love – in its different versions, both as theory and in practice – still provides models and solutions, not only for the neoliberal labour market and new forms of exploitation and expropria- tion of care and affective labour, but also for revolutionary ideas and transformations, among both feminists and Marxi- sts. It thus requires a theory focusing on the sublation, rather than annihilation, of love’s past models. In my article I build such a perspective, signalling its potential for resistance and models for revolution in the times of neoliberal capitalism., Niniejszy artykuł analizuje pojęcie prekarności z perspektywy filozoficznej,  skupiając się na miłości i pracy afektywnej oraz odnosząc się przy tym krytycznie  do nierówności genderowych w neoliberalnym kapitalizmie. Romantyczny, heteroseksualny model miłości, cechujący współczesne społeczeństwa zachodnie, był na  wiele sposobów rozmontowywany i poddawany krytyce, co doprowadziło do sprzecznych rozstrzygnięć – zniszczenia, zniesienia, wytworzenia się jego wariantów czy  (raczej konserwatywnych) prób jego zachowania. Jednak miłość, w jej różnych  postaciach, zarówno jako teoria, jak i praktyka, wciąż dostarcza modeli i rozwiązań  nie tylko neoliberalnemu rynkowi pracy i nowym formom wyzysku i wywłaszczania opieki i pracy afektywnej, ale także rewolucyjnym ideom i przemianom, zarówno  wśród feministek i marksistek. Miłość wymaga zatem teorii skupiającej się raczej na  zniesieniu, a nie unicestwieniu poprzednich modeli miłości. W swoim artykule  konstruuję taką perspektywę, ukazując jej potencjał jako model oporu i rewolucji  na czasy neoliberalnego kapitalizmu.

When analyzing the neoliberal model of the market in terms of the transcendental conditions it creates, researchers concentrate on two distinct categories - competition and debt. Together, they constitute a form of reason specific to the economic development which occurred in our recent history. The aim of this text is to show how the financial crisis of 2007-2008 affected these two iterations of the neoliberal economic paradigm, with the bailout procedure simultaneously breaching the rules of competition and debt and then slyly re-purposing them in order to justify the situation. This re-purposing is the eponymous logical bailout which depended on a brand new transcendental form which the market has taken on. This form is introduced in a nutshell by the formula “too big to fail”. The essay shows that this slogan helped introduce an understanding of the market in terms of an environment – an intricate and inherently fragile network whose preservation is necessary for the survival of the species inhabiting it. This transcendental shift will be discussed as a survival mechanism which allowed the neoliberal paradigm to avoid demise despite its complete fiasco., Analizy neoliberalnego modelu rynkowego w kategoriach transcendentalnych koncentrują się zwykle na dwóch stwarzanych przezeń warunkach doświadczenia – konkurencji i długu. Te dwie reguły tworzą wspólnie formę rozumu właściwą współczesnej ekonomii. Poniższy esej poddaje analizie ich przemiany w czasie kryzysu finansowego 2007- 2008 roku. Pokazuje, że bailout instytucji finansowych zagrożonych upadkiem jednocześnie łamał prawa konkurencji i długu oraz dostosowywał je chytrze w celu usprawiedliwienia zaistniałej sytuacji. Dostosowanie to stanowi tytułowy bailout logiczny, który umożliwiła nowa transcendentalna forma, jaką przybrał rynek. Jej streszczeniem jest formuła “zbyt wielkie, by upaść”. Esej pokazuje, że sloganowi temu towarzyszyło ukryta przesłanka rozumienia rynku w kategoriach środowiska - niezwykle złożonej i delikatnej sieci relacji, niezbędnej dla przetrwania zasiedlającego ją gatunku. Ten zwrot logiczny zostanie poniżej ujęty jako mechanizm przetrwania, który pozwolił rozumowi neoliberalnemu uniknąć detronizacji pomimo kompletnej klęski.

This article attempts to outline the economic and political framework as well as the historical formation of contemporary Islamophobia. The author shows that it took place at two levels, geopolitical and internal. This process is part of the crisis of Western hegemony within the global capitalist system, and the structural economic crisis of capitalism. Islamophobia turns out to be a functional crisis management tool. First, it is an element that legitimizes imperialist policy, creating the image of a new enemy of the West. Second, it is an instrument of the neoliberal “divide and rule” policy designed to subordinate certain classes in Europe and North America., Artykuł jest próbą zarysowania ekonomicznych i politycznych ram oraz historycznego procesu formowania się współczesnych postaci islamofobii. Autor wskazuje, że odbywało się to na dwóch poziomach – geopolitycznym oraz wewnętrznym, realizowanym na poziomie państw narodowych. Proces ten wpisuje się w kryzys hegemonii zachodniej w globalnym systemie kapitalistycznym oraz strukturalny kryzys gospodarczy kapitalizmu. Islamofobia okazuje się funkcjonalnym narzędziem zarządzania kryzysami. Po pierwsze, stanowi element legitymizacji polityki imperialistycznej, kreując obraz nowego wroga Zachodu. Po drugie, jest narzędziem neoliberalnej polityki „dzielenia i rządzenia” klasami podporządkowanymi w Europie i Ameryce Północnej.

This text situates Monika Bobako's argument from the book Islamophobia as a technology of power. Study on political anthropology in the context of the increasing interest of the public in xenophobic hatred in recent years. The author reconstructs the methodological perspective employed by Bobako, who combines studies on anti-Semitism with the analysis of western Islamophobia. This allows the philosopher to present Islamophobia as an element of a specific political and social project. The author of the text indicates that Bobako’s study on the aetiology and functions of Islamophobia, understood primarily as a code by which the current (neo-liberal) anxieties of European societies are articulated, remains unique in the context of Polish studies on the subject of anti-Muslim xenophobia., Autorka sytuuje książkę Moniki Bobako Islamofobia jako technologia władzy. Studium z antropologii politycznej w kontekście narastającego w ostatnich latach zainteresowania opinii publicznej problemem ksenofobii. Tekst zawiera rekonstrukcję przyjętej przez Bobako perspektywy metodologicznej – łączącej studia nad antysemityzmem z badaniami nad zachodnią islamofobią – która pozwala filozofce przedstawić islamofobię jako element konkretnego projektu polityczno-społecznego. Autorka wskazuje, że praca Bobako, ukazująca etiologię i funkcje islamofobii rozumianej przede wszystkim jako kod, za pomocą którego artykułują się bieżące (neoliberalne) niepokoje społeczeństw europejskich, pozostaje wyjątkowa w kontekście polskich studiów nad antymuzułmańską ksenofobią.

The aim of the article is to present the socio-economic effects resulting from the neoliberal model that has been a dominant model in the last couple of decades. The main thesis is that the model has marginalised the social aspect of economics. Hence, economics today is searching for answers to new and old questions, including how to shape the economic regime in the framework of which economics as a discipline could serve not only a selected group of people but society as a whole. These expectations can be largely fulfilled by corporate social responsibility (CSR) that is based on ethics, morality, responsibility and solidity., Głównym celem pracy jest próba zaprezentowania następstw społeczno-gospodarczych powstałych w wyniku dominacji przez kilka dekad modelu neoliberalnego. Myślą przewodnią jest stwierdzenie, że tryumfujący od kilku dekad model neoliberalny zmarginalizował społeczny wymiar ekonomii. Ekonomia znajduje się współcześnie w stadium poszukiwania odpowiedzi na stare i nowe pytania. Dotyczą one również kierunku kształtowania ładu gospodarczego, w ramach którego ekonomia jako nauka służyłaby nie tylko wybranej grupie społecznej, ale całemu społeczeństwu. Oczekiwania te w dużym stopniu spełnić może idea społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu, która opiera się na takich wartościach, jak etyka, moralność, odpowiedzialność i rzetelność.

The article is a complex attempt to present the achievements of the broadly understood urban Marxism in the field of reinterpretation of the classic concept from the cards of Capital – “primitive accumulation”. Drawing on theories of such scholars as David Harvey (“accumulation by dispossession”) or Saskia Sassen (“expulsions”), the author points to the possible ways to operationalize the concept of “dispossessing urbanization”. Inspired by the theorizations of autonomist Marxists (Antonio Negri, Sandro Mezzadra, Massimo De Angelis), he proposes to see it as a relatively new and increasingly important dispostif that allows not only to improve traditional methods of enclosures and construct entirely new ones, but also to instrumentalize urban cultures which seems unlikely for the historical versions of primitive accumulation. This theoretical inspiration leads him also to highlight another gap in the accumulation by dispossession theory, namely the lack of sufficient reflection on the production of subjectivity processes which seem constitutive for the broad set of dispossessing practices., Artykuł stanowi próbę kompleksowego przedstawienia dokonań szeroko rozumianego miejskiego marksizmu na polu reinterpretacji klasycznego pojęcia z kart Kapitału ­­– „akumulacji pierwotnej”. Opierając się na teoriach takich autorów jak David Harvey („akumulacja przez wywłaszczenie”) czy Saskia Sassen („wysiedlenia”), autor wskazuje na możliwe sposoby operacjonalizacji wyrastającego z nich konceptu „wywłaszczającej urbanizacji”. Inspirując się dociekaniami marksistów autonomistycznych (Antonio Negri, Sandro Mezzadra, Massimo De Angelis), proponuje widzieć w niej stosunkowo nowe i stale zyskujące na znaczeniu urządzenie, pozwalające nie tylko na usprawnienie tradycyjnych i konstruowanie nowych metod grodzenia, ale i szczególny, nietypowy dla klasycznych postaci akumulacji pierwotnej rodzaj instrumentalizacji miejskich kultur. Wspomniana inspiracja teoretyczna pozwala również na uwypuklenie kolejnej luki w teorii akumulacji przez wywłaszczenie, czyli brak dostatecznego namysłu nad konstytutywnymi dla niej procesami produkcji podmiotowości.

The aim of this paper is to examine Agamben’s engagement with economic theology in order to underscore its relevance for the critique of contemporary neoliberal politics. In the first part, I offer a summary of the central arguments of The Kingdom and the Glory. In particular, I focus on both the treatment of the notion of oikonomia in the early Christian discussions on the divine trinity and its relation to the providential paradigm of government. I then show how this genealogy of oikonomia is useful for a political analysis of the present. In doing so, I respond to some of the criticisms leveled against Agamben’s The Kingdom and the Glory by Alberto Toscano. Finally, I will conclude by showing how Agamben’s work is of particular importance for the study of neoliberal political rationality., Celem artykułu jest sprawdzenie Agambenowskich badań w obszarze teologii ekonomicznej w celu podkreślenia ich znaczenia dla krytyki współczesnej polityki neoliberalnej. W pierwszej części autor przedstawia podsumowanie głównych tez zawartych w książce Królestwo i chwała. W szczególności skupia się zarówno na ujęciu oikonomii we wczesnochrześcijańskich debatach na boską trójcą, jak i jej związku z prowidencjalnym paradygmatem rządzenia. Następnie pokazuje, jak ta genealogia oikonomii może być przydatna dla politycznej analizy teraźniejszości. Stanowi to jednocześnie odpowiedź na niektóre z zarzutów postawionych Królestwu i chwale przez Alberta Toscano. W końcowej części autor podsumowuje swoje rozważania, pokazując szczególne znaczenie prac Agambena dla badań nad polityczną racjonalnością neoliberalizmu.

The paper discusses basic income in the context of feminist political ecology using the concepts of reproductive labor, both performed by people and by nature. In the first part we elaborate on Wages for Housework campaign as a forerunner of the idea of basic income. The campaign inscribed the concept of income into intersectional relation between patriarchy and capitalism what was a key element of its revolutionary dimension. In the second part we analyze three different social struggles in order to create a ground for further reflections over the legitimacy such tools (and resolutions) as basic income. On the one hand the paper highlights some elements of the crisis of social reproduction, brought and further deepen by neoliberal reforms in Poland over the 25 years. On the other hand, it speaks to the issues of ecological crisis which needs to be taken into account in every anti-capitalist theory or strategy. Thus, the article aims to investigate if the wage demands for both reproductive and productive labor are still relevant in the era of neoliberal capitalism., Artykuł rozważa kwestię dochodu podstawowego z perspektywy feministycznej ekologii politycznej, wykorzystującej kategorię pracy reprodukcyjnej ludzi i przyrody. W pierwszej części nawiązujemy do Kampanii na rzecz Płacy za pracę domową – prekursorki dochodu podstawowego, która kwestię dochodów wpisywała w problematykę relacji między patriarchatem a kapitalizmem, co nadawało Kampanii rewolucyjny wymiar. W dalszej części artykuł przywołuje trzy aktualne walki społeczne, które są podstawą do dalszych rozważań na temat zasadności rozwiązania takiego jak dochód podstawowy. Z jednej strony naświetla sytuację kryzysu opieki w Polsce, narastającego wraz z neoliberalnymi reformami ostatnich 25 lat. Z drugiej rozwija problematykę kryzysu ekologicznego, którego rozwiązanie trzeba uwzględnić w każdej teorii i strategii antykapitalistycznej. Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy postulat płacy za pracę reprodukcyjną/produkcyjną ma dalej sens w dobie neoliberalnego kapitalizmu.

The current article is devoted to study of representations of Polish highereducation in major newspapers and weekly magazines in 2008-2012. The authorconcentrates on the analysis of main elements of (hegemonic) discourse, mainly intexts published in „Gazeta Wyborcza”, „Rzeczpospolita”, „Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”and „Polityka”. The debate on higher education turned to be highly ideological andin the end provided support to the implementation of neoliberal reforms in academia., W artykule niniejszym przedstawiam obraz szkolnictwa wyższego prezentowany w polskiej prasie wysokonakładowej w latach 2008-1012. Na podstawie analizy tekstów publikowanych w wybranych dziennikach („Gazeta Wyborcza”, „Rzeczpospolita”, „Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”) i tygodnikach („Polityka”) dokonuję rekonstrukcji głównych składowychdyskursu, który określić można mianem hegemonicznego. Stawiam tezę, że debata o szkolnictwie wyższym w polskiej prasie miała charakter ideologiczny i stanowiła wsparcie dla systemu wprowadzanych w świecie nauki neoliberalnych reform.

In this article I criticise theoretical structure which is employed in critiquesof higher education reforms within the domain of pedagogy. I argue thatcritique of neoliberalism in education doesn’t recognise the dynamics of change and„necessity” of transformation. Both critique and defense of neoliberal reforms donot transcend capitalist „separation” and institutionalization typical of particularorders. In practical terms, it results in reactive resistance, either in the form of defenseof privileges of „leisure class or attempt to brink back the period of „class compromise”.In this way, it is not able to develop a radical practice, transcend „ideologicalstate apparatus” and produce a radical practice as well as education based on democracyand equality., W niniejszym artykule zajmę się krytyką struktury teoretycznej, w ramach której w obszarze pedagogiki wytwarzane są krytyki reform szkolnictwa wyższego. Udowadniam, że krytyka neoliberalizmu w edukacji z jednej strony nie rozpoznaje dynamiki zmian i „konieczności” transformacji, z drugiej zaś zarówno krytyka, jak i obrona neoliberalnych reform nie przekracza kapitalistycznego rozdzielenia oraz właściwej danemu porządkowi instytucjonalizacji. Pod względem praktycznym powoduje to, że opór przybiera formę reakcyjną, czy to jako obrona przywilejów „klasy próżniaczej”, czy jako próba powrotu do okresu „kompromisu” między klasami, a tym samym nie jest w stanie wypracować radykalnej praktyki i realnie równościowej i demokratycznej edukacji, jak również przezwyciężyć „ideologiczny aparat państwowy”.

Gombrowicz’s novel is seen as an early prognosis of neoliberal ideology, with its demands for effectivity and productivity as well as negation of social and affective bonds. Margaret Thatcher’s aphorism: “there is no such thing as society” is a pretext for a critical analysis of Ferdydurke, including the feminist critics of the European vision of the subject built on fear of the Other. This feminist analysis of Ferdydurke reveals several problems with the notion of body – theories of Julia Kristeva (on abjection) and Lynda Nead (on the female nude) are employed to demonstrate this argument. The article is a direct response to the previous voices in the debatededicated to historicity of the neoliberal state. Facing with Loïc Wacquant’s andMathieu Hilgers’ contributions, the authors try to complement them with the oftenneglected dimension of spatiality. This procedure allows one to treat neoliberalisation,distinguished from the more static and above all discursive concept of neoliberalism,as a variegated and context-dependent process. The concept of “reanimation” ofneoliberalism serves here to capture its mobile character and different varietiesconceptualized in opposition to the unified vision of inevitable project of neoliberalrestructuring. It is grounded in the methodological via media that leads us “betweenparadigmatic truth spots on the one hand, and spaces of exception on the other,towards an understanding of the complex spatiality of actually existing neoliberalismand its co-evolution with neoliberal doctrines”., Artykuł stanowi bezpośrednią odpowiedź na wcześniejsze głosy w debacie na temat historyczności państwa neoliberalnego. Mierząc się z propozycjami Loïca Wacquanta i Mathieu Hilgersa, autorzy uzupełniają je o lekceważony, nie tylko w tym przypadku, wymiar przestrzenności. Zabieg ten pozwala na traktowanie neoliberalizacji, odróżnionej od bardziej statycznego i nade wszystko dyskursywnego konceptu neoliberalizmu, jako wielobarwnego i uzależnionego od kontekstu (społecznego, geograficznego, politycznego itp.) procesu. Proponowana tu „reanimacja” neoliberalizmu ma na uwadze uchwycenie go w ruchu i w zróżnicowanych odmianach, w przeciwieństwie do ujednoliconej wizji nieuchronnie jednokierunkowego (i prowadzącego do wycofania państwa) projektu neoliberalnej restrukturyzacji. Ogląd tak niejednoznacznej rzeczywistości umożliwia, zdaniem autorów, metodologiczna droga pośrednia, która wiedzie ich „pomiędzy paradygmatycznymi miejscami prawdy [truth spots] oraz przestrzeniami wyjątku, w kierunku zrozumienia złożonej przestrzenności faktycznie istniejącego neoliberalizmu oraz jego koewolucji z doktrynami neoliberalnymi”.

The anthropology of neoliberalism has become polarised betweena hegemonic economic model anchored by variants of market rule and an insurgentapproach fuelled by derivations of the Foucaultian notion of governmentality. Bothconceptions obscure what is ‘neo’ about neoliberalism: the reengineering and redeploymentof the state as the core agency that sets the rules and fabricates the subjectivities,social relations and collective representations suited to realising markets.Drawing on two decades of field-based inquiries into the structure, experience andpolitical treatment of urban marginality in advanced society, I propose a via mediabetween these two approaches that construes neoliberalism as an articulation ofstate, market and citizenship that harnesses the first to impose the stamp of thesecond onto the third. Bourdieu’s concept of bureaucratic field offers a powerfultool for dissecting the revamping of the state as stratification and classificationmachine driving the neoliberal revolution from above and serves to put forth threetheses: (1) neoliberalism is not an economic regime but a political project of state--crafting that puts disciplinary ‘workfare’, neutralising ‘prisonfare’ and the trope of individual responsibility at the service of commodification; (2) neoliberalism entails a rightward tilting of the space of bureaucratic agencies that define and distribute public goods and spawns a Centaur-state that practises liberalism at the top of the class structure and punitive paternalism at the bottom; (3) the growth and glorificationof the penal wing of the state is an integral component of the neoliberal Leviathan, such that the police, courts and prison need to be brought into the political anthropology of neoliberal rule., Antropologia neoliberalizmu podzieliła się na dwa przeciwstawne obozy. Z jednej strony lokuje się hegemoniczny model ekonomiczny zakotwiczony w wariantach zasady rynkowej, z drugiej zaś buntownicze podejście stymulowane przez pochodne pojęcia urządzania. Oba zaciemniają to, co jest „neo” w neoliberalizmie: restrukturyzację państwa jako kluczowego sprawcy, ustanawiającego zasady i wytwarzającego podmiotowości oraz stosunki społeczne dostosowane do realizacji rynków. Nawiązując do dwóch dekad badań empirycznych nad miejską marginalnością w rozwiniętych społeczeństwach, proponuję drogę pośrednią między tymi dwoma podejściami. W tym ujęciu neoliberalizm to takie powiązanie państwa, rynku i obywatelstwa, które zaprzęga państwo do narzucania rynkowego piętna na obywatelstwo. Ukute przez Bourdieu pojęcie pola biurokratycznego oferuje potężne narzędzie do analizy reorganizacji państwa jako maszyny stratyfikacji i klasyfikacji kierującej odgórnie neoliberalną rewolucją, oraz pozwala na wysunięcie trzech tez: (1) neoliberalizm nie jest reżimem ekonomicznym, ale politycznym projektem formowania państwa, narzucającym dyscyplinarny „workfare”, „prisonfare” i motyw indywidualnej odpowiedzialności w służbie utowarowienia; (2) neoliberalizm pociąga za sobą prawicowe odchylenie przestrzeni biurokratycznych organów władzy, które definiują i dystrybuują dobra publiczne oraz powołuje do życia państwo-Centaura, które na szczycie struktury klasowej uprawia liberalizm, a na jej dole karzący paternalizm; (3) rozrost i gloryfikacja penitencjarnego skrzydła państwa jest integralnym składnikiem neoliberalnego Lewiatana, dlatego też policja, sądy, więzienia muszą zostać włączone w zakres politycznej antropologii neoliberalnego panowania.

The article addresses the process of neoliberal transformation of the Soviet Bloc in the late 1980-ties and early 1990-ties as analyzed on the example of Poland. Its trajectory generally confirms Loïc Wacquant’s thesis put forward in his article Three steps to a historical anthropology of actually existingneoliberalism, that neoliberalism tends to rather capture and use than simply dismantle and weaken state structures and power mechanisms. The author shows that the transition from planned to market economy in the former Soviet Bloc was also accompanied, backed and made possible by powerfulideological operations that reshaped the construction of subjectivity and made it compatible with the neoliberal capitalism. This proves that two modes of analyzing neoliberalism – structural analysis of state power and focus on governmentality – should be treated as complimentary tools of understanding neoliberal transitions. However, contrary to Wacquant, the author claims that in this respect there is nothing new about neoliberalism as a practice, since capitalism has always required a help from the state to maintain a seemingly autonomous rule of the market., Artykuł podejmuje proces neoliberalnej transformacji Bloku Radzieckiegoz późnych lat osiemdziesiątych i wczesnych dziewięćdziesiątych analizując go naprzykładzie Polski. Twierdzi on, że neoliberalizm zmierza raczej do przechwycenia i użycia niż prostego demontażu czy osłabienia struktur państwowych i mechanizmówwładzy. Autor pokazuje również, że przejściu od gospodarki planowanej do rynkowejw dawnym Bloku Radzieckim towarzyszyły (a w dużym stopniu w ogóle czyniłyje możliwym) potężne działania ideologiczne, które przekształciły konstrukcje podmiotowościoraz sprawiły, że stała się kompatybilna z neoliberalnym kapitalizmem.Dowodzi to, że dwa tryby analizowania neoliberalizmu - strukturalna analiza władzypaństwowej oraz skupienie na urządzaniu - powinny być traktowane jako komplementarnenarzędzia służące rozumieniu neoliberalnych transformacji. This article attempts to prove the political relevance of Luxemburg’sachievements in political economy. It presents the current usages of Luxemburg’sconcepts in finance theory and theory of monetary circuit and shows its usefulnessin explaining the present economic crisis as well as in building proper revolutionarystrategies in reaction to catastrophic consequences of neoliberal capitalism. Theauthor argues that Luxemburg’s perspective is in-between a working class perspectiveand capital’s perspective (in Harry Cleaver’s terms) and emphasizes the politicalcharacter of her solutions to problems in economic theory., Artykuł stanowi próbę wykazania aktualności i politycznej ważności dorobku Róży Luksemburg w dziedzinie ekonomii politycznej. Przedstawia on współczesne przykłady wykorzystania koncepcji Luksemburg w teorii finansów oraz teorii obiegu pieniężnego, a także ich użyteczność w wyjaśnianiu aktualnego kryzysu gospodarczego, jak również w tworzeniu właściwych strategii rewolucyjnych w reakcji na katastrofalne konsekwencje kapitalizmu neoliberalnego. Autor argumentuje,że perspektywa Luksemburg znajduje się pomiędzy perspektywą klasy robotniczej a perspektywą kapitału w rozumieniu Harry’ego Cleavera. Podkreśla także polityczny charakter proponowanych przez nią rozwiązań problemów teorii ekonomii.

Polish Postcommunist Cinema and the Neoliberal OrderThis essay discusses three Polish films from the last 10 years: Bailiff (Komornik, 2005), directed by Feliks Falk, Edi (2002), directed by Piotr Trzaskalski, and Silesia, directed by Anna Kazejak-Dawid, which is the first part in the omnibus film Ode to Joy (Oda do radości, 2005) of which the two remaining parts were directed by Jan Komasa and Maciej Migas. The main methodological tools are the concepts of neoliberalism and bare life. The article argues that the fall of communism led to the neoliberalisation of Polish society and the production of bare life. The aforementioned films attest to these changes and offer an assessment of them which conveys a specific ideology. By focusing on the construction of their narratives and characters, the article attempts to establish its main features and offer its explanation.

If we reject the idea of chronological suc-cession of liberal democracy and totalitarian systemsand acclaim the genealogical perspective instead, wewill notice another structural division or rift. Here it isnot at stake the vertical di_erentiation between totali-tarianism and liberal democracy but the horizontal one:democracy and communism (as a radicalisation ofegalitarianism) vs. biopolitics (consisting of two anti-thetical, but complementary forms: Nazism and liber-alism, state and individual biopolitics). In Nazismhuman being is its own body, for liberalism (from Lockeahead), human owns his/her body, so is able to use it,change it and even sell it. In this light Nazism in itsbasic categories reverses the liberal perspective and grantthe possession of the body to the state instead of indi-vidual, not leaving behind the very conditions of bio-political thinking.I argue, that biopolitical character of liberalism dif-ferentiates it from democracy and communism mostly.Essay attempts to analyse above mentioned oppositionin vertical, as well as horizontal dimension, in order tohave a more in-depth insight in the roots of totalitariansystems and to put under scrutiny the liberal sourcesof contemporary biopolitical regimes., Jeśli odrzucimy ideę chronologicznego następstwa systemów liberalno-demokratycznych i totalitarnych na rzecz wizji genealogicznej, szybko zauważymy, że prawdziwa cezura, strukturalny podział, nie przebiega pionowo między totalitaryzmem a demokracją liberalną, lecz poziomo między demokracją i komunizmem (jako paroksyzmem demokratycznego egalitaryzmu) z jednej strony a, z drugiej, biopolityką, na którą składają się dwie antytetyczne, lecz powiązane z sobą formy: nazizm i liberalizm, biopolityka państwowa i biopolityka indywidualna. Jeśli dla nazizmu człowiek jest własnym ciałem, dla liberalizmu, począwszy od Locke’a, człowiek posiada własne ciało, a zatem może go używać, zmieniać je, a nawet wymieniać na inne dobra. W tym sensie nazizm w swoich podstawowych kategoriach odwraca perspektywę liberalną, przyznając posiadanie ciała nie jednostce, lecz państwu, pozostając jednak w granicach tego samego biopolitycznego leksykonu. Twierdzę, że biopolityczny charakter liberalizmu odróżnia go właśnie od demokracji i komunizmu. Esej podejmuje analizę powyższej opozycji tak w wymiarze wertykalnym – liberalizm/nazizm, demokracja/komunizm, jak i horyzontalnym – liberalizm/demokracja, komunizm/nazizm, w celu uzyskania lepszego wglądu w korzenie systemów totalitarnych oraz zdiagnozowania liberalnych źródeł współczesnych reżymów biopolitycznych.
