In this work, we design and fabricate a wireless system with the main operating device based on zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires. The main operating device is based on piezoelectric nanogenerator (NG) achieved using ZnO nanowires grown hydrothermally on paper substrate. High bit rates optical communication systems pose the challenge of their tolerance to linear and nonlinear fiber impairments. Coherent optical receivers using digital signal processing techniques can mitigate the fiber impairments in the optical transmission system, including the chromatic dispersion equalization with digital filters. In this paper, an adaptive finite impulse response filter employing normalized least mean square algorithm is developed for compensating the chromatic dispersion in a 112-Gbit/s polarization division multiplexed quadrature phase shift keying coherent communication system, which is established in the VPI simulation platform. The principle of the adaptive normalized least mean square algorithm for signal equalization is analyzed theoretically, and at the meanwhile, the taps number and the tap weights in the adaptive finite impulse response filter for compensating a certain fiber chromatic dispersion are also investigated by numerical simulation. The chromatic dispersion compensation performance of the adaptive filter is analyzed by evaluating the behavior of the bitor-rate versus the optical signal-to-noise ratio, and the compensation results are also compared with other present digital filters., QC 20141128

Each organic electrochromic display (OECD) pixel and its corresponding organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) are located on different sides of the flexible PET substrate. Electronic vias generated through the plastic substrate connects each OECD pixel with one addressing OECT. Conducting polymer alkoxysulfonate poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT-S) and luminescent conjugate polymer poly(thiophene acetic acid) (PTAA) are utilized to decorate insulin amyloid fibrils for gating lateral poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) electrochemical transistors. In this comparative work, four gate electrolytes are explored, including the polyelectrolytes and their amyloid-fibril complexes. The discrimination of transistor behaviors with different gate electrolytes is understood in terms of an electrochemical mechanism. We discuss about digital signal processing approaches that can enable coherent links based on semiconductor lasers. A state-of-the art analysis on different carrier-phase recovery (CPR) techniques is presented. We show that these techniques are based on the assumption of lorentzian linewidth, which does not hold for monolithically integrated semiconductor lasers. We investigate the impact of such lineshape on both 3 and 20 dB linewidth and experimentally conduct a systematic study for 56-GBaud DP-QPSK and 28-GBaud DP-16QAM systems using a decision directed phase look loop algorithm. We show how carrier induced frequency noise has no impact on linewidth but a significant impact on system performance; which rises the question on whether 3-dB linewidth should be used as performance estimator for semiconductor lasers., QC 20150608

The SiC Schottky barrier diodes for 200 degrees C to 250 degrees C operation have been developed using buried grid (BG) technology. 2A and 10A, 1700V BG JBS diodes have been fabricated and evaluated. Manufactured 10A, 1700V BG JBS diodes have leakage current at least three orders of magnitude lower compared to the typical data sheet values of the commercial devices. The leakage current at 250 degrees C is of the same order of magnitude as that of the commercial devices at 175 degrees C. The two alternative technologies for realization of BG, implantation and epitaxy, have been compared by simulations. A distributed-feedback (DFB) grating was written in twin-hole fibres with internal electrodes. Due to the intrinsic birefringence, the grating has two ultra-narrow peaks (∼0.41 pm and ∼0.27 pm) corresponding to x- and y-polarization. The separation between them can vary from 40 pm to 104 pm when the temperature increases from room temperature to 96°C. The dominant contributions of the Bragg wavelength shift as the increasing temperature are the change in refracitive index of the fibre and the expansion of the substrate (largest). However conductive fabrics must be able to resist environmental stresses (wearing, laundering, etc.) in the same way as clothing in order to fully comply with the requirements. A demonstrator, TxWear, was constructed to exploit conductive fabrics in building a conductive textile transmission line for intermodular communication and power transmission (DC power line communication bus), thus eliminating the need for cables between the modules. The hardware modules are connected to the conductive line through connectors from textile industry, i.e., snap fasteners. Different types of conductive fabrics (Ni/Cu plated polyester fabrics and stainless-steel based elastic ribbon) were evaluated and compared according to their conductivity, flexibility and robustness characteristics. The effect of washing on the electrical properties (per-unit-length parameters) of the textile transmission line was studied. Different coating processes, i.e., parylene and silicone coating, were studied and evaluated in order to isolate and enhance the robustness of the conductive textile. Ni/Cu plated polyester ripstop fabric was found to be not appropriate for wearable applications, while conductive elastic ribbon showed good robustness to laundry induced stresses.

Aluminium oxide and titanium oxide films were deposited using the Atomic Layer Deposition method on n-type 4H Sic and p-type Si {001} substrates, with doping 6.10(15) cm(-3) and 2.10(16) cm(-3), respectively, and on 1.2 kV PiN 4H Sic diodes for passivation studies. The Al2O3 and Sic interface was characterised for the existence of an effective negative charge with a density of 1.10(12) -2.10(12) cm(-2). The dielectric constant of Al2O3 as determined from capacitance-voltage data was about 8.3. The maximum electric field supported by the Al2O3 film was up to 7.5 MV/cm and 8.4 MV/cm on Sic and Si, respectively., QC 20100928.
