BackgroundTraumatic brain injury (TBI) and repetitive head impacts (RHI) have been linked to increased risk for multiple types of neurodegenerative disease, higher dementia risk, and earlier age of dementia symptom onset, suggesting transdiagnostic implications for later-life brain health. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and primary progressive aphasia (PPA) represent a spectrum of clinical phenotypes that are neuropathologically diverse. FTD/PPA diagnoses bring unique challenges due to complex cognitive and behavioral symptoms that disproportionately present as an early-onset dementia (before age 65). We performed a detailed characterization of lifetime head trauma exposure in individuals with FTD and PPA compared to healthy controls to examine frequency of lifetime TBI and RHI and associated clinical implications.MethodsWe studied 132 FTD/PPA (age 68.9 ± 8.1, 65% male) and 132 sex-matched healthy controls (HC; age 73.4 ± 7.6). We compared rates of prior TBI and RHI (contact/collision sports) between FTD/PPA and HC (chi-square, logistic regression, analysis of variance). Within FTD/PPA, we evaluated associations with age of symptom onset (analysis of variance). Within behavioral variant FTD, we evaluated associations with cognitive function and neuropsychiatric symptoms (linear regression controlling for age, sex, and years of education).ResultsYears of participation were greater in FTD/PPA than HC for any contact/collision sport (8.5 ± 6.7yrs vs. 5.3 ± 4.5yrs, p = .008) and for American football (6.2yrs ± 4.3yrs vs. 3.1 ± 2.4yrs; p = .003). Within FTD/PPA, there were dose-dependent associations with earlier age of symptom onset for TBI (0 TBI: 62.1 ± 8.1, 1 TBI: 59.9 ± 6.9, 2 + TBI: 57.3 ± 8.4; p = .03) and years of American football (0yrs: 62.2 ± 8.7, 1-4yrs: 59.7 ± 7.0, 5 + yrs: 55.9 ± 6.3; p = .009). Within bvFTD, those who played American football had worse memory (z-score: -2.4 ± 1.2 vs. -1.4 ± 1.6, p = .02, d = 1.1).ConclusionsLifetime head trauma may represent a preventable environmental risk factor for FTD/PPA. Dose-dependent exposure to TBI or RHI influences FTD/PPA symptom onset and memory function in bvFTD. Clinico-pathological studies are needed to better understand the neuropathological correlates linking RHI or TBI to FTD/PPA onset and symptoms.

Background: Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) can be an early manifestation of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the associations among NPS, cognition, and AD biomarkers across the disease spectrum are unclear. Objective: We analyzed cross-sectional mediation pathways between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers of AD (Aβ1-42, p-tau181), cognitive function, and NPS. Methods: Primary models included 781 participants from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) data set who had CSF analyzed for AD biomarkers using Lumipulse. NPS were assessed with the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire (NPI-Q). We assessed cognition with the harmonized MMSE/MoCA, as well as neuropsychological tests sensitive to AD pathology: story recall, naming, animal fluency, and Trails B. The Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR®) scale assessed dementia severity. Mediation models were estimated with Kemeny metric covariance in a structural equation model framework, controlling for age, education, sex, and APOEɛ4. Results: The sample was older adults (M = 73.85, SD = 6.68; 49.9% male, 390; 27.9% dementia, 218) who were predominantly white (n = 688, 88.1%). Higher p-tau181/Aβ1-42 ratio predicted higher NPI-Q, which was partially mediated by the MMSE/MoCA and, in a second model, story recall. No other pathway was statistically significant. Both the MMSE/MoCA and NPI-Q independently mediated the association between p-tau181/Aβ1-42 ratio and CDR global impairment. With dementia excluded, p-tau181/Aβ1-42 ratio was no longer associated with the NPI-Q. Conclusions: NPS may be secondary to cognitive impairment and AD pathology through direct and indirect pathways. The continental crust of Iran is dominated by abundant calc-alkaline and alkaline plutonic and volcanic rocks and by rifted basins filled with mostly terrigenous sedimentary rocks that formed at a Late Ediacaran to Cambrian extensional convergent plate margin along the northern margin of Gondwana. Here we present new zircon U–Pb age, geochemical, and isotopic data from plutonic (granite-granodiorite) and metamorphic (gneiss) rocks in the Kariznou region of NE Iran to provide insights into the nature of the Cadomian convergent margin of Iran. Geochemical data indicate calc-alkaline signatures, characterized by strong depletions in Nb, Ta, P, and Ti and arc-like trace element patterns. New zircon U–Pb ages show that calc-alkaline granitoids and granitic gneiss formed at ~564 to 537 Ma and 538 Ma, respectively. Bulk rock Sr-Nd isotopic data of calc-alkaline rocks have εNd(t) = –5.42 to −5.53 and −6.93 to −7.43 for granite and gneiss, respectively. The gneisses show stronger interaction with and/or re-melting of older continental crust than do granitic rocks. We interpret Kariznou magmatic rocks as forming in association with strong extension accompanied by crustal assimilation. Extension initiated ~570 Ma with the deposition of Late Ediacaran sediments, and magmatism began at 545–535 Ma, generating calc-alkaline magmas. The tectonomagmatic evolution of the Kariznou region encapsulates the prolonged transition of Cadomian Iran from a strongly extensional convergent margin, possibly as a result of oblique oceanic subduction and slab roll-back of the subducting Proto-Tethys oceanic lithosphere, culminating in the formation of an Early Palaeozoic passive margin on the northern side of Gondwana. Objective: Exposure to repetitive head impacts (RHI) is associated with later‐life cognitive symptoms and neuropathologies, including chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Cognitive decline in community cohorts is often due to multiple pathologies; however, the frequency and contributions of these pathologies to cognitive impairment in people exposed to RHI are unknown. Here, we examined the relative contributions of 13 neuropathologies to cognitive symptoms and dementia in RHI‐exposed brain donors. Methods: Neuropathologists examined brain tissue from 571 RHI‐exposed donors and assessed for the presence of 13 neuropathologies, including CTE, Alzheimer disease (AD), Lewy body disease (LBD), and transactive response DNA‐binding protein 43 (TDP‐43) inclusions. Cognitive status was assessed by presence of dementia, Functional Activities Questionnaire, and Cognitive Difficulties Scale. Spearman rho was calculated to assess intercorrelation of pathologies. Additionally, frequencies of pathological co‐occurrence were compared to a simulated distribution assuming no intercorrelation. Logistic and linear regressions tested associations between neuropathologies and dementia status and cognitive scale scores. Results: The sample age range was 18–97 years (median = 65.0, interquartile range = 46.0–76.0). Of the donors, 77.2% had at least one moderate–severe neurodegenerative or cerebrovascular pathology. Stage III–IV CTE was the most common neurodegenerative disease (43.1%), followed by TDP‐43 pathology, AD, and hippocampal sclerosis. Neuropathologies were intercorrelated, and there were fewer unique combinations than expected if pathologies were independent (p < 0.001). The greatest contributors to dementia were AD, neocortical LBD, hippocampal sclerosis, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and CTE. Interpretation: In this sample of RHI‐exposed brain donors with wide‐ranging ages, multiple neuropathologies were common and correlated. BackgroundMethodsResultsConclusionsFormer professional collision sport (CS) athletes, particularly American football players, are at risk of developing chronic health conditions; however, little is known about the health outcomes of amateur athletes.A 60-item health survey examined self-reported symptoms and diagnoses among former Division 1 Collegiate CS athletes and non- or limited-contact sport (non-CS) athletes. Binary logistic regressions tested the association between playing CS and health outcomes.Five hundred and two (6.2%) participants completed the survey: 160 CS athletes (mean age: 59.2, SD = 16.0) and 303 non-CS athletes (mean age: 54.0, SD = 16.9). CS athletes had increased odds of reported cognitive complaints and neuropsychiatric symptoms including memory (Padj < 0.01), attention/concentration (Padj = 0.01), problem solving/multi-tasking (Padj = 0.05), language (Padj = 0.02), anxiety (Padj = 0.04), impulsivity (Padj = 0.02), short-fuse/rage/explosivity (Padj < 0.001), and violence/aggression (Padj = 0.02). CS athletes also reported higher rates of sleep apnea (Padj = 0.02). There were no group differences in cardiovascular and physical health outcomes.Former CS athletes reported more cognitive and neuropsychiatric complaints. The low response rate is a limitation of this study; however, over 500,000 athletes play college sports each year, thus research on long-term health outcomes in this population is critical. Komunitas Kerja Remote, or Remote Work Community (KKR), is a community of remote workers, freelancers, and solopreneurs in Indonesia. They actively establish communication to learn together and share information, insights, and experiences while networking and informing about remote job openings on the KKR website, namely www.kamikerjaremote.com. The purpose of the research is to study the communication strategy of the remote work community in Indonesia and convey information on remote job openings to all KKR members in Indonesia. The theory used is group synergy, based on research concepts about group communication, group behaviour, and communication patterns. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data acquisition by interview method and documentation sources. The results of the research approach are useful for exploring rich and contextual information and supporting an in-depth interpretation of community reality. So KKR's communication strategy in online communication to establish strengthening and remote job vacancy information has been successful. This can be seen from the activation of KKR members in discussing, exchanging ideas, sharing information, insights, and work experiences as remote workers, as well as the increasing number of job openings on the KKR website. This article provides a novel approach to the traditional constant market share (CMS) analysis recognizing the importance of global production networks and fragmentation that necessitate using trade in value added (TiVA) rather than gross trade. We discuss how the components of a CMS analysis need to be (re)interpreted and apply our Constant Value Added Share (CVAS) analysis to the Philippines in the years 1995–2020 using the latest TiVA 2023 dataset (released in November 2023) and compare CMS to CVAS in order to facilitate understanding the contribution of the novel approach. The CVAS analysis finds that while Philippine and world Value Added grew at par, the country lost competitiveness. Traditional CMS suggests a smaller loss of competitiveness. Our approach also identifies specific sectoral weaknesses (i.e., computer and electronics exports) and emerging strengths (technology-related business services) that are unclear in CMS analysis. We approach law with deep ambivalence. On the one hand, we take immense pride in living under the rule of law. On the other hand, we often catch ourselves lamenting the existence of law. When we lament the existence of law, we are not just saying that there is too much of it. We are not just complaining about the amount of law. Rather, our complaint goes to the very nature of law itself. We complain that its rules are constraining, that its generality ignores the particularity of each situation, that its coercive force rides roughshod over our autonomy, and the list goes on. However, notwithstanding the frustration with law, it is not that we want to get rid of it. This paper seeks to express and explain our conflicting sentiments about law – why we sometimes view law as a monumental moral achievement and why we are sometimes so frustrated with it. The answer, as this paper will argue, lies in the nature of norms. The value and limit of law is traceable to the value and limit of norms. Kierkegaard helps us see that. The sources shaping a moral theory range from "reason" to "societal command" to "religious texts." The prominence and relationship between these sources is contingent upon the ethicists' approaches and inquiries. Although Kant's proposition of "pure reason" as a source of moral obligation marks a significant turning point in the field of ethics, scholars like Søren Aabye Kierkegaard argue for a divine command law of ethics, where religious texts become an inevitable source complementing individual ethical choices. This essay explores the intersection of religious texts and reasoning--the fusion between heteronomy and autonomy as sources of morality. It analyzes Muḥammad 'Abd Allāh Drāz's "Moral Obligation" as a categorical imperative within moral theories and his incorporation of Western scholars such as Immanuel Kant and Henri Bergson into his work, among others. The discussion features a significant episode of Muslim intellectual engagement with Western scholarship and its impact on understanding morality in the Qur'ān. The study shows that Drāz's La Morale du Koran adapts certain Western ethical theories and reinterprets specific Qur'anic passages, creating a new synthesis: an integration of knowledge. This paper discusses what I call "biological individuation" in the works of Kant and Hegel. Biological individuation is what makes one organism numerically distinct from another. Following a common distinction in metaphysics today, I separate this discussion into what I call "epistemic" and "metaphysical biological individuation". The former is how we distinguish one organism from another, and the latter is how one organism distinguishes itself from another. Metaphysicians today convincingly hold that epistemic individuation presupposes metaphysical individuation. I apply this to the case at hand. It is impossible for us to distinguish one organism from another if this organism has not already distinguished itself from another. However, this poses a problem for a standard reading of Kant's regulative ideas: it does not allow us to provide a Kantian account of metaphysical biological individuation. This article examines the temporality of recent science fiction films, specifically the ways in which architectural histories are used to imagine and characterise dystopias of the future. Drawing on the writing of Fredric Jameson and particularly on François Hartog's analysis of 'presentism' in historical discourse, the article proposes that the dystopias shown in many recent science fiction films provide visions of the future which have been decoupled from modernist notions of historical progress. This argument is developed through analysis of the built environments of Brazil (1985) and the Hunger Games series (2012–15). In the former, historicising and modernist architecture are combined to create a dysfunctional, highly bureaucratic dystopia from which escape is impossible. In the latter films, monumental classical forms are the dominant architectural element in a dystopia marked by excessive state violence and surveillance. The postmodern housing project Les Espaces d'Abraxas, designed by Ricardo Bofill, features in both Brazil and the final Hunger Games film, providing common ground for their repudiation of utopian modernist design. The strong presence of architectures from the past in science fiction films is thus more than pastiche; instead, it establishes a temporality in which aspects of the past continue to haunt and encroach on present-day notions of the future. The Neoproterozoic (>1160 to ~540 Ma) sedimentary record of the Tandilia System is reorganized into eight depositional sequences based on a detailed review of published sources and new lithological observations. The main compositional attributes compiled from the studied units were used to indicate changes in lithology regarding their origin. Epiclastic sections reveal supply and sources changes through the succession. Basement detritus was dominant during the deposition of the basal sequences turning drastically to a volcanic affinity dominance. The carbonate sections, dominated by intra-basinal components, were deposited in periods of rare or restricted detrital input. The older, described as a cap-dolostone, was related to bio-induced dolomite precipitation under a deglacial to interglacial context. The younger, a carbonate ramp, reveals to have been built by microbial activity adding high levels of oxygen to seawater correlated to a global oxygenation event. Compositional changes recorded in the shallow marine deposits of Tandilia could have been intricately linked to periods of tectonic and paleo-relief configurations, favoring the detrital supply into the basin, followed by relevant episodic biogeochemical changes. This study shows that the basinal-components progression was controlled by paleoclimate and paleoenvironments associated to the extensive interval between the rupture of the Rodinia to Gondwana paleogeographical framework. In 1990, three years after Andy Warhol's death and one year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) organized the first one-man show of this pop artist in Eastern Europe. The Prints of Andy Warhol, although never shown at the MoMA in New York, traveled to the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain in Jouy-en-Josas, France, the Národní Galerie in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the Staatliche Kunstsammlung in Dresden, the GDR, the Mücsarnok in Budapest, Hungary, and the Muzeum Narodowe in Warsaw, Poland. The current paper analyzes the cultural–political context of The Prints of Andy Warhol. It first discusses the place of both American pop art and Eastern Europe in MoMA's International Program (IP) and then explores the organizational challenges, art historical contents, and public reception of the exhibition. The paper concludes by examining the broader impact of The Prints of Andy Warhol on both the growing awareness of American pop art in Eastern Europe and MoMA's cultural diplomacy in this region after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Hong Kong is a highly developed and incredibly dense territory with one of the world’s largest trade-to-GDP ratios in the world. The region has a long history of representation on major international markets and is located close to their largest trading partner, China. As such, Hong Kong is of inherent interest to the many theories of international trade. This paper observed that trade between Hong Kong and China satisfies many of the assumptions made by Heckscher-Ohlin Theory and therefore warrants validation. With data sourced from World Integrated Trade Solution (WITS) and the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OCE), the predicted outcomes of the Heckscher-Ohlin theorem were tested against real outcomes in Hong Kong. The test revealed that Hong Kong’s largest exports to both China and the United States were capital intensive. It is concluded that Hong Kong’s trade with China may be explained by relative factor abundance, while the that trade between Hong Kong and the US is likely to be explained by different determinants. This paper delves into the challenges faced by scientists to effectively communicate regarding photoprotection and skin cancer as a result of the pervasive, harmful effects of disinforming messages. In order to do so, the Spanish population's understanding of photoprotection and skin cancer is examined. This paper is as an extension of the COMUNICANCER initiative, the ultimate goal of which is to establish protocols for producing and disseminating accurate content that raises the awareness of skin cancer-related dangers, as well as transferring knowledge on health prevention. Therefore, we have monitored the prevalence of misinformation and lack of information regarding sun photoprotection in Spain, aiming to reflect, ultimately, on the added difficulties faced by the scholarly community to disseminate accurate content in today's communication environment, which has become even more complex due to the distorting influence of disinformation. Employing a quantitative methodology, the research involved a comprehensive analysis of 2498 Spanish-language tweets related to skin cancer and photoprotection collected between August 2021 and August 2022. The study proves that scientists face a social media landscape, particularly on X/Twitter, where there is not only a lack of comprehensive information on the various dimensions of skin cancer, its prevention, and treatment, but which also serves as a breeding ground for the dissemination of inaccurate and misleading information regarding sun-related health risks and preventive measures. This leads to an urgent need to develop strategies aimed at fostering comprehensive and accurate information dissemination, especially regarding health information, due to the critical effect this can have on people and public health systems. Women are underrepresented in many areas of journalistic newsrooms. In this paper, we examine if this established effect persists in the new forms of journalistic communication, namely social media networks. We use mentions, retweets, and hashtags as measures of journalistic amplification and legitimation. Furthermore, we compare two groups of journalists in different stages of development: political and data journalists in Germany in 2021. Our results show that journalists identified as women tend to favor other women journalists in mentions and retweets on Twitter (now called X), compared to men. While both professions are dominated by men, with a high share of tweets authored by men, women mention and retweet other women more than their male colleagues. Female data journalists also leverage different sources than men. In addition, we found data journalists to be more inclusive of non-member sources in their networks compared to political journalists. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Literature about bipolar disorder and religion is scarce and primarily encompasses studies with a quantitative design. Results of such studies do not lead to unambiguous conclusions about the relation between bipolar disorder and religion that could be applied in clinical practice. The main focus of this article will be on the domain of religious experiences/religious delusions and hallucinations as explored in two recent PhD studies regarding mixed methods and qualitative research, conducted in the Netherlands and in Canada. In the narrative review of the two studies, the occurrence of different types of religious experiences and various explanatory models of patients to interpret them are presented. The interpretation of religious experiences, often related to mania, proves to be an intense quest, and often a struggle for many patients, whereby fluctuations in mood, course of the illness, religious or philosophical background, and the reactions of relatives and mental health professionals all play a role. Patients combine various explanatory models, both medical and religious/cultural, to interpret their experiences and these may fluctuate over the years. The two studies are placed in the context of literature about bipolar disorder and various aspects of religion to date.
