Introduction: Although third-hand smoke (THS) is a relatively new concept, it emerges as an important health problem. This study evaluated the beliefs of Turkish Pediatricians about THS., Method: The survey, designed to be self-filled by pediatricians, provided information on demographic data, lifestyle factors, and beliefs about THS. Participant beliefs about THS were evaluated using the Beliefs About Third-Hand Smoke scale. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has undeniably brought up the issue of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for businesses in Turkey. In this global pandemic, strategies developed to effectively address OHS risks and eliminate them with reliable, high-quality data have gained importance., Objective: This study aimed to determine the perceptions of employees in the forest products industry in Turkey regarding the OHS during the COVID-19 pandemic., Method: The sample of the descriptive and analytical study consisted of a total of 371 employees in forest product businesses located in Turkey. The sample of the study was determined by the purpose-based sampling method. Data were collected both online and face-to-face from June 2022 to October 2022. The data were obtained using the Questionnaire of Employee and Business Characteristics and the Scale of Employees' Perceptions on the OHS (S-POHS) adapted by Özden (2022). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS and calculated by descriptive analyses, pairwise comparison tests and multivariate regression analyses., Results: 39.1% of the employees with a mean age of 34.12±8.78 years are high school graduates and 61.5% are workers. Significant differences were found in the S-POHS average scores of the employees in the businesses that produce paper-cardboard, have operated for less than 20 years, have a partnership structure with foreign capital and have an OHS Management System Quality Certificate (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: While a positive OHS perception level has already been achieved in the forest products industry in business administrations and by employees, it is clear that this should not be lost and it should be prepared for the next crises by adding new applications.

Purpose of Review and Method: In this study, indicate the average or range of 10 heavy metal concentrations in muscle, gills and liver of two fish species (Squalius pursakensis and Cyprinus carpio) living in the Damsa Dam Lake (Turkey) was examined in relation to fish gender and size. Inductively coupled plasma-tandem mass spectrometry was used to evaluate the concentrations of heavy metals. The average contents of the metals in S. pursakensis muscle samples were 0.877, 9.285, 0.614, 0.488, 8.190, 0.155, 0.015, 0.010, 0.218, 0.009 mg/kg for Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn, As, Cd, Co, Cr and Pb respectively. On the other hand, the average contents of the metals in C. carpio muscle samples were 0.673, 8.001, 0.367, 0.435, 6.107, 0.188, 0.007, 0.007, 0.371, 0.012 mg/kg for Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn, As, Cd, Co, Cr and Pb respectively. In addition, human health risks were evaluated considering the estimated daily intake of heavy metals in adults. The target hazard quotient, hazard index and carcinogenic risk values were determined based on the frequency of fish consumption for the population living in the region., Result and Conclusion: The highest quantities of all heavy metals were determined in the gills and liver of the fish species. The levels of most heavy metals in tissues did not differ significantly between both fish species. Only a few heavy metals in the tissues of both fish species demonstrated significant associations with fish length or weight. In terms of the levels of most of the heavy metals in the tissues, there weren't any significant differences between the male and the female fish. The estimated daily intakes of all of the heavy metals were lower than the reference doses. The values of the target hazard quotient and the hazard index were found to be below 1 and the values regarding carcinogenic risk were assessed to be within or lower than the permissible levels. Cr, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb and inorganic As values assessed in the muscle tissues of fish were found below the values acceptable by national and international institutions. Background: Various etiologies may underlie optic neuritis, including autoantibody-mediated disorders described in the last decade. We re-examined demographic, clinical, laboratory features and prognostic factors in pediatric patients with autoimmune optic neuritis according to current knowledge., Methods: Cases of pediatric ON from 27 centers in Türkiye diagnosed between 2009 and 2022 were included for retrospective evaluation., Results: The study included 279 patients, 174 females and 105 males, with a female-to-male ratio of 1.65. The average age at onset was 12.8 ± 3.4 years, and mean follow-up, 2.1 years (range: 1-12.1 years). Patients <10 years old were grouped as "prepubertal" and those ≥10 years old as "others". The diagnoses made at the end of follow-up were multiple sclerosis associated optic neuritis (n = 90, 32.3 %), single isolated optic neuritis (n = 86, 31 %), clinically isolated syndrome (n = 41, 14.7 %), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody associated optic neuritis (n = 22, 7.9 %), and relapsing isolated optic neuritis (n = 18, 6.5 %). Predominant diagnoses were myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody associated optic neuritis and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis associated optic neuritis in the prepubertal group and multiple sclerosis associated optic neuritis in the older group. Recurrences were observed in 67 (24 %) patients, including 28 with multiple sclerosis associated optic neuritis, 18 with relapsing isolated optic neuritis, 11 with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody associated optic neuritis, 8 with aquaporin-4 antibody related optic neuritis, and 2 with chronic relapsing inflammatory optic neuropathy. Recurrences were more common among female patients. Findings supporting the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis included age of onset ≥ 10 years (OR=1.24, p = 0.027), the presence of cranial MRI lesions (OR=26.92, p<0.001), and oligoclonal bands (OR=9.7, p = 0.001). Treatment in the acute phase consisted of intravenous pulse methylprednisolone (n = 46, 16.5 %), pulse methylprednisolone with an oral taper (n = 212, 76 %), and combinations of pulse methylprednisolone, plasmapheresis, or intravenous immunoglobulin (n = 21, 7.5 %). Outcome at 12 months was satisfactory, with 247 out of 279 patients (88.5 %) demonstrating complete recovery. Thirty-two patients exhibited incomplete recovery and further combination treatments were applied. Specifically, patients with relapsing isolated optic neuritis and aquaporin-4 antibody related optic neuritis displayed a less favorable prognosis., Conclusion: Our results suggest optic neuritis is frequently bilateral in prepubertal and unilateral in peri‑ or postpubertal patients. Age of onset 10 or older, presence of oligoclonal bands, and brain MRI findings reliably predict the development of multiple sclerosis. The risk of developing multiple sclerosis increases mostly during the second and third years of follow-up. Relapsing isolated optic neuritis remains a separate group where the pathogenesis and outcome remain unclear. Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS) and is caused by immune dysfunction. MS results in a variety of symptoms that affect physical, emotional, social, and cognitive functioning. Effective symptom management is a critical factor in improving the quality of life (QoL) of patients with MS., Purpose: To determine the effects of a comprehensive mobile education application developed for Turkish patients with MS on symptom management and QoL., Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial and included 63 patients with MS older than 18 years who had an Expanded Disability Status Scale score of ≤6 and were actively using smart phones (intervention group, n = 31; control group, n = 32). Data were collected using a patient information form, the Multiple Sclerosis-Related Symptom (MS-RS) checklist, the Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Scale (MSQoL-54), and the Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Adherence Questionnaire (MS-TAQ). The scales were administered three times: at baseline, first month, and third month. Patients with MS in the intervention group were followed up for three months using MobilMS., Results: In the intervention group, the mean rating of MobilMS was 8.74±1.29. Most patients indicated that MobilMS was an "informative and useful application". None of the patients in the study reported any side effects or difficulties when using MobilMS application. The mean MSQL-54 score of the intervention group was significantly higher compared to that of the control group at the first and third months (p = 0.001). The mean scores on the MS-RS checklist (p = 0.985), MS-TAQ subscale, Disease modifying therapies (DMT) barriers (p = 0.237), DMT side effects (p = 0.994), DMT coping strategies (p = 0.469), and Missing Doze Rate (MDR) (p = 0.765) were lower in the intervention group than in the control group, but these results were not statistically significant., Conclusion: The results of the study showed that MobilMS was highly appreciated, accepted, and used by patients with MS. MobilMS has the potential to meet the requirements for a free and accessible symptom management tool for patients with MS. The innovative MobilMS-based education intervention for support and symptom management is recommended as part of supportive care for this patient population. Objective: We aimed to investigate sleep disorders in patients with epilepsy (PWE) and to investigate the effects of sleep disorders on quality of life., Methods: In our multicenter study conducted in Turkey, 1358 PWE were evaluated. The demographic and clinical data of the patients were recorded. The Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory-10 (QOLIE-10) were administered., Results: The mean age of 1358 patients was 35.92 ± 14.11 (range, 18-89) years. Seven hundred fifty-one (55.30 %) were women. Some 12.7 % of the patients had insomnia (ISI > 14), 9.6 % had excessive daytime sleepiness (ESS > 10), 46.5 % had poor sleep quality (PSQI > 5), and 354 patients (26.1 %) had depressive symptoms (BDI > 16). The mean QOLIE-10 score was 22.82 ± 8.14 (10-48). Resistant epilepsy was evaluated as the parameter with the highest risk affecting quality of life Adjusted odds ratio (AOR = 3.714; 95 % confidence interval (CI): [2.440-5.652] < 0.001)). Fishing nets have a limited lifespan, and they are considered waste when worn or damaged beyond repair. If the end-of-life fishing nets (EOLFNs) are not adequately managed, they can be wasted in landfills or discarded into the sea inappropriately. Thus, encouraging the recycling of fishing nets is an effective way to reduce waste and promote a circular economy. This study examines the environmental impact of all processes of synthetic fishing nets used in various fishing operations (gillnet, trammel net and cast net) from a life-cycle perspective. The functional unit is a 1 ton fishing net. The disposal method represents two different scenarios, incineration and recycling. It has been observed that the disposal of EOLFNs by recycling rather than incineration offers significant environmental gains in all impact categories. This study aimed to measure total aflatoxin (AF) (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, and AFG2) and ochratoxin A (OTA) levels in dried fruit samples and to evaluate the potential dietary exposure and cancer risk to these mycotoxins in Kayseri/Türkiye. Dried fruit samples were collected between April-May 2021. A total of 11 dried grapes and apricot samples, 7 dried fig and plum samples were collected. Total aflatoxins and OTA in dried fruits were determined by ELISA method. Then, the margin of exposure (MOE) and cancer risk were calculated. Total AF was detected in dried fruit samples between 42.86%, and 100%. Between 18.18% and 57.14% of samples exceeded the European Commission (EC) limits for total AF. Moreover, OTA was detected in all samples. Between 71.43% and 100% of samples exceeded the EC limits for OTA. Cancer risk due to OTA exposure was higher than total AF and it was determined that OTA exposure could pose a risk for public health (MOE < 10,000). Although mycotoxin exposure seems to be low due to the low consumption of dried fruit in Türkiye, the risk of exposure and cancer may increase because of complying with the recommendations of the dietary guidelines. Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement-associated renal cell carcinoma (ALK-RCC) is characterized by ALK fusion at chromosome 2p23. It has recently been included as a recognized entity with the 5th edition of the WHO classification urinary and male genital tumor. However, our knowledge about ALK-RCC is limited due to the small number of reported cases. In our study, we aimed to contribute the histomorphological and immunohistochemical features of ALK-rearranged renal cell carcinoma cases. We reviewed 276 cases diagnosed as RCC in order to detect ALKRCCs.We used immunohistochemistry to screen ALK rearrangement and then confirmed the ALK rearrangement by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) method. ALK was immunohistochemically positive in 8 of 276 cases. ALK rearrangement was detected by FISH in 3 of 8 cases. These cases were previously diagnosed as clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CRCC), papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC), and chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (ChRCC). Their histomorphological findings were diverse, and all three cases exhibited different immunohistochemical findings. Survival of these patients ranged between 6 and 24 months. ALK immunohistochemical findings were also different in each case as perinuclear, weak cytoplasmic, and membranous.ALK RCCs appear to be very rare tumors with heterogeneous histomorphological and immunohistochemical features. Although immunohistochemistry may be useful to detect ALK positivity, genetic evaluation is required to confirm the diagnosis. This paper aims to reflect the ideas of learners of English at higher education level in a multicultural non-native context. The participants were six learners of English (N=6) from six different countries and they were in the preparatory English class to major in the Department of International Affairs at a state university in Turkiye. The design of the study was maintained through in-depth interviews with the participants selected through a convenient snowball sampling. The data was documented for narrative analysis. The main findings elicited that although it would be better and more effective if they learned English in a native context, participants were all satisfied to learn English in a multicultural classroom which may provide some advantages in terms of learning different things and thinking in a multicultural environment. The motivation that drove them to learn English in a non-native environment was commonly related to educational reasons, yet they also indicated that they enjoyed learning foreign languages. In addition, the study submits that although it may sound favourable to learn English in its native context by native speaker language teachers, placing greater emphasis on hard work and effort, it is also attainable to learn English in a non-native context by non-native English teachers.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has affected living standards around the world, and pandemic anxiety has changed social habits. In this context, this paper investigates the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and quality of life, and assesses the mediating effect of loneliness on this relationship among a sample of older adults in Turkey. The study considers data from approximately 400 people, all of whom completed the CASP-19 Quality of Life Scale in Older People, the Loneliness Scale for the Elderly and the Fear of COVID-19 Scale. Confirmatory factor analyses were performed to confirm a one-factor structure for each instrument. Subsequently, mediation analysis, correcting for age as a continuous covariate, was performed to assess the nature of the relationship between fear and quality of life, and the extent to which that relationship is mediated by loneliness. Our study showed that there is a negative and direct relationship between loneliness and quality of life. Another important finding of our research is that fear of COVID-19 has a significant effect on loneliness. Finally, loneliness mediates the relation between fear of COVID-19 and quality of life. This finding strongly suggests that fear of COVID-19 influences quality of life via loneliness. This result is noteworthy, as we could not find any similar finding in the literature. This study aims to examine the relationship between domestic and international prices of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and urea fertilisers together with exchange rates in Türkiye using the non-linear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) model on monthly data for the period of January 2011 to September 2022. The result of the study provides empirical evidence about the presence of asymmetries in the short and long-run among these fertilisers. The findings of the study confirm that international prices of di-ammonium phosphate and urea fertilisers have a symmetric effect in the long-run and exchange rate of the Turkish lira to US dollars has an asymmetric effect on the domestic prices of fertilisers in the short run. This is the first study in Türkiye to delineate the dynamic simultaneous interaction among these markets and its findings can be extremely useful for academicians, and policymakers to make decisions regarding the market structure of countries that do not have sufficient domestic resources for fertiliser supply and are dependent on imports. Purpose: The purpose of this research paper is to recover the autonomous flight performance of a mini unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) via stochastically optimizing the wing over certain parameters (i.e. wing taper ratio and wing aspect ratio) while there are lower and upper constraints on these redesign parameters. Design/methodology/approach: A mini UAV is produced in the Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Laboratory. Its complete wing can vary passively before the flight with respect to the result of the stochastic redesign of the wing while maximizing autonomous flight performance. Flight control system (FCS) parameters (i.e. gains of longitudinal and lateral proportional-integral-derivative controllers) and wing redesign parameters mentioned before are simultaneously designed to maximize autonomous flight performance index using a certain stochastic optimization strategy named as simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA). Found results are used while composing UAV flight simulations. Findings: Using stochastic redesign of mini UAV and simultaneously designing mini ISTE UAV over previously mentioned wing parameters and FCS, it obtained a maximum UAV autonomous flight performance. Research limitations/implications: Permission of the directorate general of civil aviation in the Republic of Türkiye is essential for real-time UAV autonomous flights. Practical implications: Stochastic redesign of mini UAV and simultaneously designing mini ISTE UAV wing parameters and FCS approach is very useful for improving any mini UAV autonomous flight performance cost index. Social implications: Stochastic redesign of mini UAV and simultaneously designing mini ISTE UAV wing parameters and FCS approach succeeds confidence, highly improved autonomous flight performance cost index and easy service demands of mini UAV operators. Originality/value: Creating a new approach to recover autonomous flight performance cost index (e.g. satisfying less settling time and less rise time, less overshoot during flight trajectory tracking) of a mini UAV and composing a novel procedure performing simultaneous mini UAV having passively morphing wing over certain parameters while there are upper and lower constraints and FCS design idea. Traditional gender roles are transferred to the children in many ways and this makes it difficult to ensure gender equality. Starting from the problem regarding the sensitivity of students for gender equality in a public school, the aim of this study was to enhance the sensitivity of fourth grade students in a primary school towards gender equality and to examine this development process through the prepared teaching process. The research design was action research and the participants were 32 fourth graders in a primary school in Adana, Turkey. The data collection tools were, Awareness For Gender Equality Form (TCE-FF), semi-structured interview forms, class observations, researcher diary, self-assessment/course evaluation forms and observer evaluation forms. In order to analyze the data, inductive and deductive content analyses, descriptive analysis and constant comparative analysis were used. Findings showed that students enhance their way of defining sexes, gender and gender equality, they put forward many indicators of inequalities and equalities in the right way, they have a better understanding of the contributions of equality and they brought about many suggestions for providing gender equality. This paper seeks to examine the views and experiences of school administrators about the emotional labor that they exhibit in the school environment. The study group consists of a total of 30 school administrators. The qualitative method was used and a basic qualitative research design was adopted. The data were gathered through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed through content analysis. The results showed that there were feeling rules in school administration, and the emotions of school administrators are shaped mainly by informal rules such as personal characteristics and professional ethics rather than formal rules. It was determined that school administrators do not reflect their negative feelings, such as anger, sadness, and fear in the school environment and act to display the appropriate emotion (surface acting). In addition, it was understood that as a requirement of being an administrator, they force themselves to feel certain emotions to treat everyone equally and create a positive school climate (deep acting). School administrators indicated that the effort to manage their emotions in their relations with people in the school environment caused negative results such as burnout, weariness, unhappiness, stress, tension, nervousness, headache, regret, insomnia, tension, and restlessness. On the other hand, school administrators expressed that exhibiting emotional labor also had positive results. These include positive communication and school climate, happiness, psychological relaxation, getting to know people better, success, gaining people's trust, being more cautious and foresighted, being accepted, mature and the feeling of being a good person. Regarding the results, the concept of emotional labor and related skills can be integrated to the pre-service and inservice training of school administrators. Central Anatolia typifies the semiarid agroecological conditions of Türkiye given its low annual precipitation and winter temperatures. Wheat, barley, chickpea, lentil, vetch, apples and potatoes are largely grown in this zone but native perennials, including oaks, Turkish fir and poplar, are on the decline thereby limiting their contribution to ecosystem services. The disconnect between the value of trees and ecosystem services in Central Anatolia has not been studied previously. This study focused on the knowledge, importance, intercropping, ecosystem services, community values and planting of trees in Niğde, a representative province in Central Anatolia, Türkiye. A quantitative survey of 301 participants was conducted to understand their perception of selected trees grouped as nitrogen fixing and nonnitrogen fixing. Indicators were tested for association (χ²) and responses were disaggregated into two participant groups, farmers and non-farmers. Generally, participants showed a widespread knowledge about the trees. The top five trees of perceived importance were fruit, poplar, hawthorn, black pine and oak which were mainly valued for environmental protection, health and income. High value tree agroforestry was a preference while perception of tree-based ecosystem services focused on cultural and provisioning services. Although there was considerable support for the concept of planting more trees, tree survival remains low and increased social engagement in further perennial studies is needed. Ranking Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets (IFS) using distance-based methods involves calculating the distance between an IFS and a reference point which represents either maximum (positive ideal solution) or minimum (negative ideal solution) value. These methods assume that similarity of an IFSs to the reference point increases as its distance from it decreases. While it is a common practice to use nonlinear distance functions for ranking IFSs, this paper proves that no nonlinear IF distance function can be robust. In this study, the shortcomings of the conventional procedure are demonstrated by providing a mathematical proof and an alternative ranking method based on the hypervolume metric is proposed. In addition, the suggested ranking approach is extended as a new multi-criteria decision making method called Hypervolume-based Evaluation and Ranking Technique (HEART). HEART is applied for multi-criteria assessment of Turkey's energy alternatives. This article analyzes the relationship between civil–military relations and professional military education (PME) in Türkiye before the 2016 coup attempt. Its main argument is that an effective PME system could not be realized due to the problematic nature of civil–military relations. The dominant role of the military in politics turned PME into a domain reserved solely for soldiers; however, this autonomy did not help the officer corps to create an effective PME system. Based on historical analyses, this article concludes that civil–military cooperation is necessary for developing a successful PME system, and it endorses Mukherjee's integrated model. Background: Autopsy rates are significantly lower that what they should be worldwide. Additionally, autopsy practices vary between countries. Aims: To examine the autopsy rates, the distribution and temporal changes of forensic autopsy cases, so as to identify the areas in the death investigation system that require improvement in Türkiye. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: "Forensic Death Examination Statistics" of the Council of Forensic Medicine (CFM) and "Death Statistics" of the Turkish Statistical Institute were compared and analyzed for the years 2013-2022 in Türkiye. Results: The number of forensic death cases sent to the CFM has increased over time. For all causes of deaths, the autopsy rate is approximately 3.6-4.8%. The cause-specific mortality rates for deaths due to sharp instrument trauma, blunt trauma, occupational accident, undetermined, and poisoning have increased over the years. "The percentage of "undetermined" deaths, which are important to demonstrate negative autopsies, was 14.2% in 2021. Conclusion: Although the autopsy rates have slightly increased in a volatile trend over time in Türkiye, they are still not at the desired level. This study proposes a new model derived from Behavioral Reasoning Theory (BRT) to examine the purchasing behavior of masstige jewelry consumers. The suggested model provides a more comprehensive understanding of the determinants of purchasing masstige products by considering values and reasons in addition to the global motives and intention. The study also examines, for the first time, the moderating role of reasons. It explores how reasons may strengthen or weaken the impact of perceived values on global motives. The proposed model was empirically tested using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with survey data on the consumption of masstige jewelry brands in Türkiye. To provide a more complete understanding of the moderating role of reasons, submodels were constructed for different value–reason combinations. The results demonstrate notable differences in the goodness-of-fit measures between the moderated and non-moderated models. Specifically, reasons contributed to enhanced explanations of global motives and intention, both directly and indirectly. However, not all submodels yielded significant results in terms of the moderator effect. Thus, the empirical tests supported the hypotheses regarding the moderating effect only partially. Overall, the current findings further extend the existing frameworks and provide valuable insights into masstige jewelry purchasing behavior, which can be used by marketers to develop more effective strategies. Iznik lake is the biggest lake in the Marmara region, which is the most industrialized and populated area of Türkiye. The lake is one of Türkiye's most important water supply areas and is located nearby the Iznik district of Bursa, with a population of about 45,000. It is being used for irrigation and fishery production, but not for drinking water. In this paper, the distribution, pollution source, and risk assessment of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) in the surface sediments of Iznik lake and streams (both flowing to and flowing from the lake) were investigated. Six surface sediments collected from the lake and four surface sediments collected from the streams were analyzed in high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HR/GC–MS) system in accordance with EPA 1613 and EPA 1668 methods. The concentration ranges of the ∑PCDD/Fs is 21.4 pg/g d.w. (inside the lake (IZ-6)) – 54.5 pg/g d.w. (Gülayağı stream (IZ-8)) and ∑DL-PCBs is 13.5 pg/g d.w. (inside the lake (IZ-3)) – 46.3 pg/g d.w. (Olukdere (IZ-7)) respectively, with 2.68 pg TEQ/g d.w. on average. The results showed that the high chlorinated (Hepta – Octa CDD/Fs) dioxins/furans and pentachlorinated PCBs (PCB 118 and 105) are dominant in the sediments. A detailed assessment of PCDD/F congener profiles observed in the lake sediments speculated that the wastewater discharges to the lake could be the main pollution source, while other sources such as open burning activities, runoff of pesticide residues from agricultural areas and atmospheric deposition may have some contribution also. The health risk assessment performed for polluted sediment demonstrated that, in the worst case, dioxin-like (PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs) concentration was a total intake of 0.37 pg TEQ/kg body weight/day, no exceeds the tolerable daily intake amount, where fish consumption accounts for nearly all of the total intake. Purpose: Sustainability is viewed as an encompassing perspective, as endorsed by the international policy context, driven by the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We aim to examine how women entrepreneurs transform capitals to pursue sustainability, and to generate policy insights for sustainability actions through tourism entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach: Applying qualitative approach, we have generated empirical evidence drawing on 37 qualitative interviews carried out in Turkey, whereby boundaries between traditional patriarchal forces and progressive movements in gender relations are blurred. Findings: We have generated insights into how women entrepreneurs develop their sustainability practice by transforming their available economic, cultural, social and symbolic capitals in interpreting the macro-field and by developing navigation strategies to pursue sustainability. This transformative process demonstrates how gender roles were performed and negotiated in serving for sustainability pillars. Research limitations/implications: In this paper, we demonstrate the nature and instrumentality of sustainable tourism entrepreneurship through a gender lens in addressing some of these SDG-driven challenges. Originality/value: We advance the scholarly and policy debates by bringing gender issues to the forefront, discussing sustainable tourism initiatives from the viewpoint of entrepreneurs and various members of local community and stakeholder in a developing country context where women's solidarity becomes crucial. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of COVID-19 infection on disease management among individuals with type 2 diabetes and to explore their perspectives on COVID-19. This descriptive qualitative study included patients with diabetes, with a sample of 15 patients meeting the study criteria. The data were analyzed using code groups, which were then further categorized into main themes and subthemes. The main themes were: initial contact with the SARS-CoV-2 that is associated with COVID-19 illness changes in diabetes self-management behaviors; attempt at maintaining diabetes selfmanagement behaviors; and problems with accessing diabetes care. The study findings revealed several significant insights. Individuals with diabetes exhibited a fear of contracting SARS-CoV-2, which led to reduced levels of exercise and difficulties in managing blood sugar levels and insulin adjustments. Moreover, due to anxiety about COVID-19 infection, they postponed health check-ups, resulting in experiencing diabetes-related complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main purpose of this article is to investigate the foundations of relations between Türkiye and the US and to analyze the impact of the Iraq War on relations between the two countries. The relations that developed in the context of security after the Cold War were naturally supported by economic aid. Although there were many problems in the fragile relations during the Cold War, the ties between the two countries were never completely severed. While frequent occurrences strengthened Türkiye's significance in the area, the divergent interests of the two nations have only recently begun to come into focus. The developments taking place in Türkiye's neighboring countries also attract the attention of the United States, and the repercussions of events in these regions are reflected in Türkiye, especially concerning conflicts involving Russia. In this context, although the relations between the two countries are often touted as an alliance, it highlights the fact that it leans more towards a necessity. At this point, the Iraq War has had a significant impact on the relations between the two countries and has led to the emergence and increase of problems between the two countries. Recent scholarship considers digital platforms' potential to serve as sites for feminist counter-spaces. 'Speaking out' or disclosing gender-based violence online allows survivors to give voice to their experiences and create a political arena for seeking informal forms of justice. What is significant in these instances is not a shift away from formal justice mechanisms but how the alternative ones take a survivor-focused approach to meet their needs and interests. The survivors who choose to disclose publicly – by describing their experiences in their own words – seek validation and solidarity and hold their perpetrators responsible for the harm they caused. Based on a multilevel justice approach, this research studies how – or whether – digital platforms enable community recognition and awareness regarding gender-based violence in Turkey. By exploring the experiences of six women from Turkey who were subjected to gender-based violence and disclosed online, we ask what justice means for our participants, why they chose to disclose digitally, and for what purposes. We consider their reasons for and experiences of such online disclosures and examine the extent to which these meet their justice needs. While it is evident that online spaces can function as sites of informal justice, it is vital to ask for whom and in which contexts justice can be achieved online. Scholars largely view populism as a democratic game and study it through the lens of civilian mass politics, thereby, dismissing the role of the military elite. Nevertheless, populist mobilization may introduce new dynamics into the political landscape of countries that have a long history of politically active militaries. This article scrutinizes the degree and type of civilian control of the military in populist settings. It primarily contends that incumbent populists tend to limit the veto power of the military. However, civilianization in populist regimes does not occur through a consistent reform agenda geared towards democratic governance of the security sector. Populists instead seek to gain personal control of the military through individual, communal, or ideological ties to civilian leadership. The personal model does not aim to hinder the military's political influence. On the contrary, it politicizes the army and seeks to use it under civilian authority towards shared goals. When evaluating an area's seismic risk or resilience, it is necessary to use the spatial correlation to analyze the ground motion parameters of multiple sites together in an earthquake. These two large earthquakes in Türkiye provided the possibility for spatial correlation analysis of ground motion intensity measurements in this area. Based on the strong motion records provided by The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Türkiye (AFAD), this study uses the local ground motion prediction equation in Türkiye to give spatial correlation analysis of Intensity Measurements. Both MW 7.8 and MW 7.5 earthquakes occurred in southeastern Türkiye on February 6, 2023, resulting in numerous buildings collapsing and serious casualties. Understanding the distribution of coseismic surface ruptures and secondary disasters surrounding the epicentral area is important for post-earthquake emergency and disaster assessments. High-resolution Maxar and GF-2 satellite data were used after the events to extract the location of the rupture surrounding the first epicentral area. The results show that the length of the interpreted surface rupture zone (part of) is approximately 75 km, with a coseismic sinistral dislocation of 2–3 m near the epicenter; however, this reduced to zero at the tip of the southwest section of the East Anatolia Fault Zone. Moreover, dense soil liquefaction pits were triggered along the rupture trace. These events are in the western region of the Eurasian Seismic Belt and result from the subduction and collision of the Arabian and African Plates toward the Eurasian Plate. The western region of Chinese mainland and its adjacent areas are in the eastern section of the Eurasian Seismic Belt, where seismic activity is controlled by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian Plates. Quantitative geomorphic analyses are usually powerful in identifying active tectonics across global orogenic belts. Our present study will focus on the Anatolian Plate which hosts a lot of recent catastrophic earthquakes in Türkiye. Six geomorphic indices for 100 sub-basins around Türkiye have been computed including local relief, slope, normalized steepness index (kSn)), hypsometric curve and integral (HI), transverse topographic symmetry factor (Tf), and the basin asymmetry factor (Af). The averaged kSn and Af values have shown four high-value anomalous zones, suggesting relatively high uplift rates featured by high river incision and regional tilting. The values of 0.35 - HI < 0.6 for basins with S-shaped curves imply intensive tectonic activities along the eastern part of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ), the Northeast Anatolian Fault Zone (NEAFZ), the East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ), and the Central Anatolian Fault Zone(CAFZ). All results of the geomorphic indices analysis suggest a relatively high degree of tectonic activity in the following four areas, the Isparta Angle, the Eastern Black Sea Mountains, the South-eastern Anatolia Region, and the Central Anatolian fault zone. We further suggest that the eastern part of the NAFZ, NEAFZ, EAFZ, and CAFZ will be more active in tectonic activities, with a greater potential for strong earthquake occurrence. This paper provides causal evidence on how political parties can sway voters at scale in nascent electoral democracies. We collect novel data on expressway construction by the Justice and Development Party in Turkey and use province-by-year variation in construction to show that votes for the Justice and Development Party increased in response to the expressways. The estimates imply that the expressways increased the Justice and Development Party's vote share by 4.8 percentage points—a third of the increase from 2002 to 2011. We provide evidence that the visibility and competence signalled by the expressway expansion, and not increased local economic growth, drove increased vote shares. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bu çalışmada Türkiye'nin İç Batı Anadolu bölgesinde yer alan Işıklı Gölü'nün zooplankton dağılımı ve kompozisyonu 2003-2005 yılları arasında aylık olarak incelenmiştir. Zooplankton örnekleri yüzeyden Hydro-Bios plankton ağı (55 µm) ile toplanmıştır ve formaldehit (% 4) içerisine sabitlenmiştir. Yüzey suyu sıcaklığı, pH, çözünmüş oksijen ve elektriksel iletkenlik gibi bazı fizikokimyasal parametreler de ölçülmüştür. Ayrıca Işıklı Gölü'nün trofik kompozisyonunu değerlendirmek amacıyla frekans indeksi (% F) ve Brachionus / Trichocerca (QB/T) belirlenmiştir. Toplam 49 tür tespit edilmiştir. Rotifera (%55), Cladocera (%27) ve Copepoda (%18) türleri tarafından temsil edilmiştir. Maksimum tür Mayıs 2004'te (21 tür), minimum tür ise Ekim 2003'te (5 tür) bulunmuştur. Asplanchna priodonta, Keratella cochlearis, Keratella tecta, Polyarthra dolichoptera, Synchaeta pectinata, Bosmina longirostris ve Chydorus sphaericus gölde yaygın olarak görülen türlerdir. Su sıcaklığı 3,9-24,6 °C arasında; pH 8,1 ila 8,8 arasında; elektriksel iletkenlik 341 µS/cm ile 434 µS/cm arasında; çözünmüş oksijen değerleri 5,8 mg/L'den 11,1 mg/L'ye kadar değişmiştir. Sıklık indeksine (% F) göre en baskın türler B.longirostris (%74), K. cochlearis (%62), A. priodonta (%54) ve C. sphaericus (%51)'dur. Bölgeden ilk kez toplam 20 tür rapor edilmiştir. Startup selection is an essential mechanism of how accelerators create value. Through in-depth case studies of 10 accelerators in Turkey, our research explores the selection process in accelerators. Our findings indicate that accelerators overcome their context's extreme uncertainty by involving various actors in the selection process and reducing the information asymmetries for investors and startups. Accelerators tend to select effortlessly coachable startups, willing to collaborate with accelerators, mentors, or other actors, and passionate enough to overcome the pressure of creating a business at a fast pace. Our research also exhibits that the selection process serves startups by directing and training them to transmit the right signals to receivers, primarily investors. Accelerators prefer to work with entrepreneurial teams that are coachable, passionate, and collaborative to vibrate the right signals. Similarly, the accelerators' selection process helps investors by decreasing signaling noise and mitigate information asymmetry. The agricultural land evaluation procedure is a valuable guide for growing plants where they are best suitable, and it has a critical role in actualizing sustainable plans for providing food security for the growing population. In agricultural land suitability analysis, different multi-criteria decision-making methods are applied. The main objective of this study is to introduce the potential usage of a new multi-criteria decision-making method the Full Consistency Method (FUCOM) in agricultural land suitability analysis. The study was carried out in the northern part of the Karamenderes plain in NW Turkey. Nine land characteristics (soil texture, soil depth, organic matter content, electrical conductivity, pH, slope, drainage, CaCO3%, and cation exchange capacity) were used for the land evaluation study. The weighting values of the land characteristics were calculated by the FUCOM. According to the results, 223 ha (6.26%) were highly suitable, 2650 ha (74.40%) were moderately suitable, 508 ha (14.26%) were marginally suitable, and 181 ha (5.08%) were not suitable for maize cultivation. The weighted values of the parameters were also tested with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Best-Worst Method (BWM). There is a general compatibility between the methodologies. The data obtained from these methods showed that analysis consists of a very positive relationship with each other. The comparisons of these methodologies showed that FUCOM's prioritization order simplicity in parameter weighting and ability to reduce the processing intensity would provide a significant contribution and advantage to the land evaluation experts and planners.
