Purpose: The purpose of this article is to review the legislation on limitation on cash payment from a comparative perspective with France. This legal provision has been the subject of inconsistency and lack of clarity for the past two decades. Design/methodology/approach: This paper uses a doctrinal legal research technique based on an analysis of the law and how it is interpreted in relation to Mauritius's prohibition on cash payments. Section 5 of the FIAMLA 2002 is interpreted in large part by this assessment using legal precedents from the Supreme Court and other Mauritius judicial authorities. France has been chosen as the comparative jurisdiction as it has well-defined legal framework on cash payment limitations in Europe. Findings: The Mauritian judiciary has played a far more significant and active role than the French judiciary. A cursory search reveals a dearth of case law concerning the interpretation of the pertinent sections of the French Monetary and Financial Code concerning the prohibition on cash payments. The French legal system places more emphasis on the kinds of transactions that are exempt, whereas the Mauritius system places more attention on the entities that are exempt, such as banks and other financial organisations. Originality/value: This paper fills in the gap that exists on legal interpretation of legislation on limitation on payment by cash in Mauritius. It originally contributes to legal literature on money laundering by undertaking a comparison between Mauritius and France for the benefits of students and researchers around the world. Background: Physical activity (PA) provides physical and psychosocial benefits for people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). However, practice levels remain below recommendations and strategies for promoting PA in specialist centers need to be better identified. The socio-ecological model of health emphasizes the central role of policies and environment in influencing individuals' health behaviors. This model provides a basis for understanding how health professionals perceive the promotion of PA in their centers. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore intervention components of PA promotion in specialized CF centers in France that are "experienced" in PA promotion, to identify elements that can be transferable to other centers. Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted with 16 healthcare professionals and pwCF. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed using inductive and deductive methods classically used in psychology. Results: Five themes were extracted: the action and its context, the partnerships established around this action to promote physical activity, the evaluation of the action, its reproducibility, and the changes induced by COVID-19. Conclusions: Some factors emerged as essential for promoting PA among pwCF, notably the dialogue between the health professionals and patients, the presence of adapted PA instructors, and the involvement of partners. Children with developmental dyslexia (DD) display partially preserved morphology skills which they rely upon for reading and spelling. Therefore, we conducted explicit and intensive training of derivational morphology in French and Swiss individuals with DD, ages 9 to 14 years, in order to assess its effect on: morphological awareness, reading (speed and accuracy), and spelling. Our pre–posttest design included a group trained in derivational morphology and a group of children who continued their business-as-usual rehabilitation program with their speech-language therapist. Results showed effects on morphological awareness and on the spelling of complex words, with a large between-group effect size for trained items and a large to moderate effect size for untrained items. All these gains tended to be maintained over time on the delayed posttest, 2 months later. For reading, the results were more contrasted, with large between-group effect sizes for accuracy and speed for trained items, reducing to a small effect for accuracy on the delayed posttest. For untrained items, small effects were observed on accuracy (at both posttests) but not on speed. These results are very promising and argue in favor of using derivational morphology as a medium to improve literacy skills in French-speaking children and adolescents with DD. Abstract: Introduction : Improvements in combat casualty care have increased survival rates, but these patients are at particular risk of developing multiple organ failure (MOF). We investigated the incidence and severity of MOF in a cohort of severe combat casualties. Materials and Methods : This retrospective study included all on-duty French land army war casualties with a severe combat injury requiring intensive care unit admission during 2009-2023. Demographic data, advanced life support interventions, and outcomes were collected. Each organ failure was then analyzed during a 7-day trauma course according to the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score. Results: Of the 100 patients who met the inclusion criteria, those with persistent MOF at day 4 (MOF group) represented 22% of the total population (median Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score 6.0 [5.3-8.0]). Compared to those without persistent MOF, these patients were more severely injured (median Military Injury Severity Score 38.0 [interquartile range 33.0-56.8] vs. 26.5 [20.0-34.0], P < 0.001) by an explosive mechanism (68.2%) and sustained more traumatic brain injury (40.9% vs. 14.1%, P = 0.013). The MOF group also received significantly more blood units (median 14.0 [8.3-24.8] vs. 6.0 [0.0-12.0], P < 0.001) and massive transfusions (68.2% vs. 32.1%, P = 0.002). Pulmonary and cardiovascular dysfunction were the most frequently observed trauma outcomes. A multivariable logistic regression model showed that MOF persistence at day 4 was significantly associated (odds ratios [95% confidence intervals]) with severe injuries (1.5 [1-2.3], P = 0.042). Conclusion : A high number of severe lesions significantly and independently increased risk of MOF persistence at day 4 after combat-related trauma. Objectives: Measurement of serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) protein is becoming a key biomarker for many neurological diseases. Several immunoassays have been developed to meet these clinical needs, revealing significant differences in terms of variability and results. Here, we propose a French multicenter comparison of 5 sNfL assays., Methods: 6 replicates of 3 pools with low (10 pg/mL), medium (30 pg/mL) and high (100 pg/mL) sNfL values and one replicate of 12 samples with growing sNfL values were analyzed by six independent French clinical laboratories. The analytical performances of the sNfL blood assay (Fujirebio®) on Lumipulse G were first evaluated then compared to four other immunoassays: NF-light V2 (Quanterix®) on SiMOA HD-X, Human NF-L (Biotechne®) on Ella, R-Plex Human Neurofilament L (MSD®) on Sector 2400; manual ELISA test using Uman Diagnostic/Quanterix®., Results: Inter-center comparison of the Lumipulse blood assay revealed limited but significant differences in the mean sNfL values across low, medium, and high pools between each city (p < 0.001) and between the two different batches used. Coefficients of variation of pools ranged from 2.0 to 16.9 %. Z-score of sNfL results of the 12 samples ranged from -1.70 to +1.71. Inter-technique comparison showed a systematic difference of sNfL values, with a overestimation of MSD and Ella over other tests. Nonetheless, results were all significantly correlated (p < 0.001)., Conclusion: The automated Lumipulse assay produced comparable sNfL values across laboratories; but further adjustments are needed to harmonize sNfL results. Water absorption in wheat flour is a crucial parameter for optimizing bread-making processes. The determinants of wheat flour water absorption were investigated through the analysis of 28 compositional and technological properties of 150 wheats grown in France. A multiple linear regression approach was used to predict the water absorption, selecting the best model through successive examination of Bayesian Information Criterion, Variance Inflation Factor and minimizing the total number of variables. A model with protein content, soluble starch, damaged starch and specific viscosity from water extractable arabinoxylans was identified as the best trade-off between the number of variables and the predictive performances among all possible models. Oxygen is an important parameter in winemaking that can have positive or negative impacts on wine quality. A controlled oxygen management can lead a wine with good potential for ageing to develop an interesting ageing bouquet. On the other hand, when oxygen intake is not well controlled, loss of freshness and fruitiness can occur, and some faulty oxidative notes can appear. Oxidation is thus an ambiguous sensory concept and producers' representation of oxidation in white wine may be very different depending on the oenological practices linked to their geographical areas. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of oenological practices and environment on wine experts' mental representations of oxidation. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with twenty-six French winemakers, half from Burgundy and half from Jura. The results showed that the winemakers from both regions were quite consensual regarding the sensory dimensions associated with oxidation but there were differences between the two regions in terms of which types of oxidation they considered. The idea of premature oxidation was clearly more salient for the Burgundy respondents than for the Jura ones. Background: Sensory processing involves the nervous system receiving, modulating, and responding to sensory stimuli. Clinical samples have elevated rates of sensory processing difficulties, less is known about sensory processing at population-level. We aimed to investigate patterns of sensory processing in infancy and their association with perinatal factors., Methods: Data from a French prospective birth cohort of 9861 babies were used to identify latent sensory classes of 1-year-olds. Multinomial logistic regression examined whether sex, cumulative sociodemographic risk or perinatal factors, were associated with these classes., Results: Three classes, 'typical sensory' (71.2 %), 'definite sensory difficulties' (21.3 %) and a 'possible sensory difficulties' group (7.5 %) best fit the data. The 'typical' group were easy to calm, adaptable, had low anxiety with no feeding concerns. The 'definite' group were the least easy to calm, least accepting of confined spaces, least adaptable and most anxious. They exhibited more sleeping and feeding problems. The 'possible' group were similar to the 'typical' group apart from being less adaptable with increased sleep difficulties. Chlorine is a mineral nutrient which, in a certain amount in the form of chloride, is essential for plant development. However, the atmosphere-plant transfer of its radioactive isotope, chlorine-36, is still poorly understood. In this study, dry deposition of 36 Cl on lettuce and maize was determined experimentally. These two cultures were carried out downwind of Orano La Hague plant (West of France), which chronically emits small quantities of 36 Cl. The dry deposition velocities were similar on these two canopies with mean values of and 1.4 × 10 -2  m s -1 on lettuce and 1.6 × 10 -2  m s -1 on maize crops. The measured deposition fluxes reflect the importance of the dry deposition mechanism on plants, particularly in situations of anthropogenic discharge. Objective: To describe the rate of prolonged second stage of labor in France before and after the publication of labor guidelines and to investigate the association of prolonged second stage with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), perineal tears, and neonatal morbidity., Methods: Data were obtained from the 2016 and 2021 French National Perinatal Surveys. For this cross-sectional analysis, we included patients with singleton pregnancies who gave birth to a term live neonate in cephalic presentation. Patients who did not reach full dilation, with a prior cesarean delivery or without an epidural were excluded. Prolonged second stage was defined as a duration from full dilation to delivery exceeding 3 h for nulliparous and 2 h for multiparous patients. Endpoints were severe PPH (>1000 ml blood loss or need for transfusion/embolization/surgery), severe perineal tears (third- and fourth degree), and neonatal morbidity (arterial cord pH < 7.10, 5-minute Apgar < 7, or NICU admission). Comparisons between periods were made using chi-square, Fisher, or Wilcoxon tests. Multivariable logistic regression and propensity score matching were used to control for confounders., Results: Of 27,297 patients in the surveys, 13,063 met inclusion criteria (6,695 in 2016; 6,368 in 2021). Prolonged second stage was more frequent in 2021 (nulliparous: 24.9 % vs 11.4 %; multiparous: 14.9 % vs 10.2 %, both p < 0.01). Severe PPH increased (2.1 % in 2021 vs 1.3 % in 2016, p < 0.01), while severe perineal tears and neonatal morbidity did not differ significantly. Nulliparous patients with prolonged second stage had higher rates of severe PPH (3.4 % vs 1.6 %, p < 0.01) and severe perineal tears (2.1 % vs 1.3 %, p = 0.03), but not neonatal morbidity. Multiparous patients with prolonged second stage showed higher severe PPH (3.3 % vs 1.2 %, p < 0.01), but no significant differences in perineal tears or neonatal morbidity. Multivariable and propensity score analyses confirmed these associations., Conclusion: Following the 2017 guidelines, the rate of prolonged second stage of labor in France increased, accompanied by higher severe PPH risk but not severe perineal tears or neonatal morbidity. Background: Pregabalin is a drug approved for neuropathic pain, epilepsy and general anxiety disorder. However, pregabalin is also an increasing cause of diversion and misuse, and, for this reason, the French health authorities have decided in 2021 to classify it as a narcotic drug, requiring secured prescription pads. Our study aimed to evaluate the impact of this measure on pregabalin dispensation patterns., Methods: Using data from a national representative sample of 12,690 French community pharmacies, we assessed the impact of the new regulatory framework, implemented in June 2021, on the total monthly quantity of pregabalin dispensed by conducting an interrupted time-series (ITS) analysis. We built a counterfactual model to predict what would have happened without the intervention. We conducted the same analyses in the subsample of pregabalin dispensations exceeding the maximum recommended dosage of 600 mg per day. Additionally, we compared (1) the number of pregabalin dispensations (2) the co-dispensing of opioids and/or benzodiazepines one year before and one year after the regulation., Results: Following the regulatory change, there was an immediate and significant drop of 38,475,375 mg (95 %CI [-66,931,799 mg; -10,018,951 mg] in pregabalin dispensations. This decline continued in the following months, with a decrease of 4,788,107 mg (95 %CI: [-8,888,326 mg; -687,888 mg] per month. The counterfactual model predicted that, without the intervention, there would have been no notable change in pregabalin dispensations. The ITS analyses showed no significant change in pregabalin dispensations following the new regulation for the subsample with doses exceeding 600 mg per day. Concurrently, there was a significant decrease in co-dispensing of opioids (18.4 % pre-regulation versus 11.6 % post-regulation, p < 0.001) and benzodiazepines (21.4 % pre-regulation versus 11.7 % post-regulation, p < 0.001)., Conclusion: The constraining regulation adopted in 2021 by the French health authorities significantly curtailed total pregabalin dispensing in community pharmacies. Background: Suboptimal treatment delays is known to impact prognosis of patients with cancer but optimal timing in specific subgroups remains poorly studied. This study aimed to analyze treatment delays in young women treated for a breast cancer (BC) on and its impact on their prognosis using French Nationwide Data., Methods: Using the CAREPAT-YBC Cohort based on the French National Healthcare System Database, we analyzed disease-free survival (DFS) in 22,093 young women (18-45 years) who underwent either surgery-chemotherapy-radiotherapy pathway (adjuvant setting, 15,433 patients) or chemotherapy-surgery-radiotherapy pathway (neoadjuvant setting, 6660 patients), according to delays between the different pathways., Results: For the adjuvant chemotherapy-radiotherapy interval, the best timing was 17-31 days with increased risk above this delay. For the neoadjuvant setting, the optimal neoadjuvant chemotherapy-surgery interval was 17-31 days, while ≤15 days (HR 1.44, 95%CI 1.21-1.71) or ≥62 days (HR 2.07, 95%CI 1.36-3.15) showed poorer prognosis. Background: Pertussis vaccination in young mothers aims to protect neonates through cocooning. We estimated pertussis vaccination coverage (VC) in women at two months postpartum in France in 2021, and the proportion of women who got vaccinated in the first two months postpartum; associated determinants were studied., Methods: We used data from the 2021 National Perinatal Surveys conducted in metropolitan France (ENP 2021) and French overseas territories (ENP-DROM 2021). Multivariate poisson regressions were employed to study the following determinants: age, educational level, monthly household income, socio-professional situation, birth country, parity, health professional who monitored pregnancy, influenza vaccination during pregnancy, region of residence, prenatal care consultations, having health insurance, having a partner, and having a chronic pathology. Results were weighted., Results: The study sample comprised 7999 women. Estimated pertussis VC at two months postpartum was 66.8 % (95 %CI [65.5-68.0]). VC was significantly lower in i) unemployed women (vs. executives/managers, intermediate and higher intellectual professionals), ii) those on low income (vs. high), and iii) those with two or more children (vs. primiparous). It was significantly higher in i) women born in France, ii) those vaccinated against influenza during pregnancy, iii) those who received pre-natal care from a private midwife, and iv) those with more prenatal consultations. The proportion of women vaccinated against pertussis in the two-month postpartum period (33.4 % [31.7-35.9]) was significantly lower in i) women on low incomes, ii) unemployed women, iii) women with health insurance, and iv) multiparous women. It was significantly higher in those vaccinated against influenza during pregnancy., Discussion - Conclusion: Pertussis VC in women at two months postpartum in 2021 was insufficient and was marked by social and territorial inequalities in health. Vaccination for pregnant women has been recommended in France since 2022. Objective: A major concern for cancer survivors after treatment is the Fear of Cancer Recurrence (FCR), which is the fear that cancer will reappear or progress. This fear can be exacerbated by medical uncertainty about the future, leading to harmful obsession and having a negative impact on quality of life. This study aims to develop a predictive Machine Learning (ML) model using healthcare reimbursement data to better predict FCR and understand the factors influencing FCR in women with breast cancer five years after their diagnosis., Materials and Methods: We used data from the VICAN (VIe après le CANcer) survey to propose an interpretable model to identify patients at risk of developing clinical FCR. The reimbursement data for each patient were analyzed beyond the first two years of treatment, excluding the initial phase influenced by the cancer curative therapeutic process. Data experiments were conducted, including the use of algorithms such as Random Forest, Support Vector Machines, Gradient Boosting, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, and Multilayer Perceptron. The AUC was used to choose the optimal model., Results: The dataset is composed of 918 patients classified regarding FCR. The experimental design incorporated classification levels of medications, biological and medical procedures. Subsequently, data was generated for two experiments, facilitating examination at the ultimate healthcare classification level in Experiment 1, while Experiment 2 targeted the penultimate classification level. Overall, the best-performing model achieved an AUC of 66%. This demonstrates some effectiveness of the algorithms in detecting patients at risk of developing clinical FCR and encourages further investigations to enhance the model's performance and assess its generalizability., Conclusion: ML applied to reimbursement data has shown promise in predicting FCR, aiding in the identification of patients at risk of developing it. Background: Before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic, doctor shortages led many countries to expand nurses' role in their mass vaccination programs. Nonetheless, nurses often express marked vaccine hesitancy. Simultaneously, their working conditions have been deteriorating., Objectives: To study 1) the association between nurses' perceptions of their working conditions and their vaccination-related behaviors (vaccination recommendations to their patients), and 2) the mediating role in this associations of their trust in health authorities, vaccine confidence, and vaccine proactive efficacy., Design: A cross-sectional survey., Settings: Salaried, community (self-employed) and mixed nurses in France., Participants: 18,888 nurses registered with the French national order of nurses (ONI, registration is mandatory) (N = 439,323)., Methods: In February 2023, this cross-sectional study used an online questionnaire to survey the nurses mandatorily registered with the French national order of nurses. Seven items adapted from models of psychosocial risk factors at work assessed their satisfaction with their working conditions. The international short version of the Pro-VC-Be (health professionals, vaccine confidence and behaviors), a validated instrument measuring psychosocial determinants of health-care professionals' vaccine behaviors) evaluated their vaccine-related attitudes and behaviors. Multiple group mediation analysis with structural equation modeling measured the associations between satisfaction at work, trust in health authorities, vaccine confidence, proactive efficacy (commitment and self-efficacy) in vaccination, and vaccination recommendations (against seasonal influenza for those with a chronic disease and against COVID-19 among adults)., Results: Among the 18,888 participants, satisfaction at work had generally deteriorated, and only 47 % considered vaccines safe. Among salaried nurses (61 %), satisfaction at work was statistically significantly associated (p < 10 -3 ) with trust in health authorities (β = 0.26 [0.24; 0.28]), vaccine confidence (total effect: β = 0.35 [0.31; 0.38]), proactive efficacy (total effect: β = 0.18 [0.16; 0.21]), and, to a smaller extent, with seasonal influenza and Covid-19 vaccine recommendations (total effect: β = 0.13 [0.09; 0.16]). Trust in health authorities played a statistically significant role (p < 10 -3 ) mediating the associations of satisfaction at work with vaccine confidence and proactive efficacy. These three dimensions in turn mediated the relation between satisfaction at work and frequency of vaccination recommendations. These relations were similar among community nurses., Conclusions: Satisfaction at work appears to enhance nurses' vaccination attitudes and behaviors, which are likely to reinforce their capacity to promote their patients' vaccination. The COVID-19 pandemic jeopardized individuals' health and economic stability, and the associated shocks might have decreased individuals' trust. In this paper, we study the relationship between subjective perceptions of the pandemic and individuals' institutional and interpersonal trust (e.g., trust towards the government or health representatives), while considering objective health and economic shocks due to the pandemic as drivers. We collected data across Australia, France, Germany, and South Africa during a later stage of the COVID-19 pandemic (i.e., from mid-April to early-June 2021) when individuals had time to personally experience the pandemic and its effects. COVID-19 illness perception was associated with lower institutional and interpersonal trust. The health shock of having experienced COVID-19 was associated with higher interpersonal trust, while economic shocks were associated with lower institutional trust when they were due to the pandemic. The results suggest that public policy interventions in a later stage of a pandemic should consider objective economic and health outcomes as well as subjective ones, such as individual's perceptions. Background: In pediatric cardiology, the fact that some new biomarkers have assay-specific normal values has to be considered for correct clinical decisions. The current study aimed to provide age-adjusted normative values for NT-proBNP and Galectin-3 using the Abbott immunoassay system from a prospective French pediatric cohort sera collection and to validate our data for NT-proBNP on a second retrospective cohort., Methods: We analyzed 283 consecutive samples for NT-proBNP and 140 samples for Galectin-3 collected from apparently healthy children (0-18 years) with outpatient treatment at our institution (Hôpital Necker-Enfants malades, Paris, France) during 24 months., Results: For NT-proBNP and Galectin-3, we establish four age partitions, respectively two (<2 years / >2 years) and establish upper reference values and their 90 % CI for each biomarker (Galectin-3 (ng/mL): 56 [44-70] / 26 [23-29]). We evaluated the diagnostic performance of our upper reference values of NT-proBNP on a retrospective cohort (n = 428) with positive predictive value of 0.92., Conclusions: Using Abbott immunoassay system, we report age-specific reference values for NT-proBNP and for the first time for Galectin-3 in a healthy French pediatric cohort.
