In this paper, an indium‐gallium‐zinc oxide (IGZO) based phototransistor with an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) jet printed poly (3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) absorption layer has been developed for the absorption of visible light. The PEDOT:PSS absorption layerforms a p‐n junction with IGZO, enhancing the photoresponse through selective carrier transfer of photogenerated carriers. As a result, the proposed phototransistor exhibits improved optoelectronic characteristics such as photoresponsivity of 8.40 × 102 A/W, photosensitivity of 1.12 × 107, detectivity of 8.05 × 1011 Jones under the green light (532 nm) illumination of 5 mW/mm2. [Display omitted] The pulp and paper sectors are thriving yet pose significant environmental threats to water bodies, mainly due to the substantial release of pollutants. Lignin-derived compounds are among the most problematic of these contaminants. To address this issue, we present our initial results on utilizing organic semiconductor photocatalysis under visible light for treating lignin-derived compounds. Our investigation has been centered around creating a green and cost-effective organic semiconductor photocatalyst. This catalyst is designed using a structure of bagasse cellulose spheres to support PM6 (poly[(2,6-(4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)-4-fluorothiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2- b :4,5- b' ]dithiophene))– co -(1,3-di(5-thiophene-2-yl)-5,7-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-benzo[1,2- c :4,5- c' ]dithiophene-4,8-dione))]: MeIC (3,9-bis(2-methylene-(3-(1,1-dicyanomethylene)-cyclopentane-1,3-dione[ c ]-1-methyl-thiophe))-5,5,11,11-tetrakis(4-hexylphenyl)-dithieno[2,3- d:2′ , 3′-d' ]-s-indaceno[1,2- b :5,6- b' ]-dithiophene)). This photocatalyst demonstrates remarkable efficiency, achieving over 91 % degradation of lignin-derived compounds. The superior photocatalytic performance is attributed to three main factors: (1) The ability of PM6 to broaden MeIC's absorption range from 300 to 800 nm, allowing for effective utilization of visible light; (2) the synergistic interaction between PM6 and MeIC, which ensures compatible energy levels and a vast, evenly spread surface area, promoting charge mobility and extensive donor/acceptor interfaces. This synergy significantly enhances the generation and transport of carriers, resulting in a high production of free radicals that accelerate the decomposition of organic materials; (3) The deployment of PM6:MeIC on biomass-based carriers increases the interaction surface with the organic substances. Notably, PM6: MeIC showcases outstanding durability, with its degradation efficiency remaining between 84 % and 91 % across 100 cycles. In this work, based on transfer printing technology, planar integration of RGB InGaN‐based micro‐LEDs on flexible transparent material was realized. By measuring the optoelectronic parameters, we demonstrated the feasibility of this integrated device in full‐color display applications. In addition, based on the on‐off keying modulation and wavelength division multiplexing, visible light communication in parallel channels can be achieved. Person re-identification, as an essential research direction in intelligent security, has gained the focus of researchers and scholars. In practical scenarios, visible light cameras depend highly on lighting conditions and have limited detection capability in poor light. Therefore, many scholars have gradually shifted their research goals to cross-modality person re-identification. However, there are few relevant studies, and challenges remain in resolving the differences in the images of different modalities. In order to solve these problems, this paper will use the research method based on the attention mechanism to narrow the difference between the two modes and guide the network in a more appropriate direction to improve the recognition performance of the network. Aiming at the problem of using the attention mechanism method can improve training efficiency. However, it is easy to cause the model training instability. This paper proposes a cross-modal pedestrian re-recognition method based on the attention mechanism. A new attention mechanism module is designed to allow the network to use less time to focus on more critical features of a person. In addition, a cross-modality hard center triplet loss is designed to supervise the model training better. The paper has conducted extensive experiments on the above two methods on two publicly available datasets, which obtained better performance than similar current methods and verified the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods in this paper. In the dynamic landscape of 6G and smart cities, visible light communication (VLC) assumes critical significance for Internet of Things (IoT) applications spanning diverse sectors. The escalating demand for bandwidth and data underscores the need for innovative solutions, positioning VLC as a complementary technology within the electromagnetic spectrum. This paper focuses on the relevance of VLC in the 6G paradigm, shedding light on its applicability across smart cities and industries. The paper highlights the growing efficiency of lighting LEDs in infrastructure, facilitating the seamless integration of VLC. The study then emphasizes VLC's robustness in outdoor settings, demonstrating effective communication up to 10 m. This resilience positions VLC as a key player in addressing the very last meter of wireless communication, offering a seamless solution for IoT connectivity. By introducing a freely available open-source simulator combined with an alternative waveform, UFMC, the study empowers researchers to dimension applications effectively, showcasing VLC's potential to improve wireless communication in the evolving landscape of 6G and smart cities. This paper presents an indoor positioning strategy based on Visible Light Communication that relies on LED luminaires as transmitters, whose luminous flux is modulated at different frequencies, and a light sensor as a receiver. Then, a previously trained Artificial Neural Network (ANN) uses the illuminance signal gathered by the receiver as input to estimate the sensor's position. The main contribution of the technique is that the ANN is trained by using an illuminance estimator based on the lighting distribution of the luminaires, which is obtained through the IES file provided by the luminaire's manufacturer, without the need to collect data from the environment. In this work, the designed illuminance estimator is validated by comparing it to the well-known commercial software DIALux and Relux. The algorithm's setting and the performance evaluation of the ANN are explained. Then, the impact of the lighting uniformity and the environment's number of divisions on the accuracy of the results is analyzed. Graphitic carbon nitride (gCN) has shown great potential in photocatalysis. Developing suitable cocatalysts is a critical way to enhance gCN's photocatalytic performance. In this paper cobalt–nickel bimetallic phosphide (CoNiP) was used as a cocatalyst to modify gCN. A gCN/CoNiP composite was successfully prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. XRD, XPS, SEM, UV-vis DRS, and PL characterization studies showed that a Schottky junction-like structure was constructed between gCN and CoNiP, which intensified the visible light response, enhanced the charge transfer rate and prohibited the recombination of photogenerated carriers, thus significantly improving gCN photocatalytic activity. Under simulated sunlight, the removal efficiency of methylene blue (10 mg L−1) was 97.8% by 120 min of irradiation, 44.6% higher than that of gCN. The integration of visual algorithms with infrared imaging technology has become an effective tool for industrial gas leak detection. However, existing research has mostly focused on simple scenarios where a gas plume is clearly visible, with limited studies on detecting gas in complex scenes where target contours are blurred and contrast is low. This paper uses a cooled mid-wave infrared (MWIR) system to provide high sensitivity and fast response imaging and proposes the MWIRGas-YOLO network for detecting gas leaks in mid-wave infrared imaging. This network effectively detects low-contrast gas leakage and segments the gas plume within the scene. In MWIRGas-YOLO, it utilizes the global attention mechanism (GAM) to fully focus on gas plume targets during feature fusion, adds a small target detection layer to enhance information on small-sized targets, and employs transfer learning of similar features from visible light smoke to provide the model with prior knowledge of infrared gas features. Using a cooled mid-wave infrared imager to collect gas leak images, the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm significantly improves the performance over the original model. The segment mean average precision reached 96.1% (mAP50) and 47.6% (mAP50:95), respectively, outperforming the other mainstream algorithms. Multispectral pedestrian detection technology leverages infrared images to provide reliable information for visible light images, demonstrating significant advantages in low-light conditions and background occlusion scenarios. However, while continuously improving cross-modal feature extraction and fusion, ensuring the model's detection speed is also a challenging issue. We have devised a deep learning network model for cross-modal pedestrian detectionbasedonResnet50, aiming to focus on more reliable features and enhance the model's detection efficiency. This model employs a spatial attention mechanism to reweight the input visible light and infrared image data, enhancing the model's focus on different spatial positions and sharing the weighted feature data across different modalities, thereby reducing the interference of multi-modal features. Subsequently, lightweight modules with depth wise separable convolution are incorporated to reduce the model's parameter count and computational load through channel-wise and point-wise convolutions. The network model algorithm proposed in this paper was experimentally validated on the publicly available KAIST dataset and compared with other existing methods. Traditional visible light target detection is usually applied in scenes with good visibility, while the advantage of infrared target detection is that it can detect targets at nighttime and in harsh weather, thus being able to be applied to ship detection in complex sea conditions all day long. However, in coastal areas where the density of ships is high and there is a significant difference in target scale, this can lead to missed detection of some dense and small targets. To address this issue, this paper proposes an improved detection model based on YOLOv5s. Firstly, this article designs a feature fusion module based on a fusion attention mechanism to enhance the feature fusion of the network and introduces SPD-Conv to improve the detection accuracy of small targets and low-resolution images. Secondly, by introducing Soft-NMS, the detection accuracy is improved while also addressing the issue of missed detections in dense occlusion situations. Finally, the improved algorithm in this article increased mAP0.5 by 1%, mAP0.75 by 5.7%, and mAP0.5:0.95 by 5% on the infrared ship dataset. Atmospheric turbulence causes transmitted light to fade randomly, which results in irradiance scintillation fluctuations in the received signal and significantly affects the quality of wireless optical communication systems. In this paper, we investigate the propagation characteristics of a monochromatic light-emitting diode (LED) light beam through weak-to-strong turbulence. Considering the spatial incoherence of a monochromatic LED light source, the emitted light field of a monochromatic LED light source is represented by a random field multiplied by a deterministic field that follows a Gaussian distribution. Then, based on the extended-Rytov theory, a closed expression for the irradiance scintillation index under weak-to-strong turbulence is derived. In addition, the expression for the fading probability governed by the Gamma–Gamma model is given. Finally, the effects of near-earth atmospheric refractive index structural parameters, signal propagation distances, and working light wavelengths on propagation characteristics of the LED-based VLC system are simulated and compared with those of the laser-based one. The results theoretically confirm that laser light sources are more susceptible to atmospheric turbulence along the propagation path than monochromatic LED light sources. In this paper, we consider a visible light positioning (VLP) system, where an array of photo diodes combined with apertures is used as a directional receiver and a set of inexpensive and energy-efficient light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is used as transmitters. The paper focuses on the optimisation of the layout of the transmitter, i.e., the number and placement of the LEDs, to meet the wanted position estimation accuracy levels. To this end, we evaluate the Cramer–Rao bound (CRB), which is a lower bound on the mean-squared error (MSE) of the position estimate, to analyse the influence of the LEDs' placement. In contrast to other works, where only the location of the LEDs was considered and/or the optimisation was carried out through simulations, in this work, the optimisation is carried out analytically and considers all the parameters involved in the VLP system as well as the illumination. Based on our results, we formulate simple rules of thumb with which we can determine the spacing between LEDs and the minimum number of LEDs, as well as their position on the ceiling, while also taking into account the requirements for the illumination. In the realm of intelligent transportation, pedestrian detection has witnessed significant advancements. However, it continues to grapple with challenging issues, notably the detection of pedestrians in complex lighting scenarios. Conventional visible light mode imaging is profoundly affected by varying lighting conditions. Under optimal daytime lighting, visibility is enhanced, leading to superior pedestrian detection outcomes. Conversely, under low-light conditions, visible light mode imaging falters due to the inadequate provision of pedestrian target information, resulting in a marked decline in detection efficacy. In this context, infrared light mode imaging emerges as a valuable supplement, bolstering pedestrian information provision. This paper delves into pedestrian detection and tracking algorithms within a multi-modal image framework grounded in deep learning methodologies. Leveraging the YOLOv4 algorithm as a foundation, augmented by a channel stack fusion module, a novel multi-modal pedestrian detection algorithm tailored for intelligent transportation is proposed. This algorithm capitalizes on the fusion of visible and infrared light mode image features to enhance pedestrian detection performance amidst complex road environments. Experimental findings demonstrate that compared to the Visible-YOLOv4 algorithm, renowned for its high performance, the proposed Double-YOLOv4-CSE algorithm exhibits a notable improvement, boasting a 5.0% accuracy rate enhancement and a 6.9% reduction in logarithmic average missing rate. This research's goal is to ensure that the algorithm can run smoothly even on a low configuration 1080 Ti GPU and to improve the algorithm's coverage at the application layer, making it affordable and practical for both urban and rural areas. This paper proposes a hyperspectral imaging simulation method based on a ray-tracing algorithm. The algorithm combines calculations based on solar and atmospheric visible light radiation as well as the spectral bidirectional reflection distribution function (BRDF) of the target surface material and can create its own scenarios for simulation calculations on demand. Considering the presence of multiple scattering between the target and background, using the ray-tracing algorithm enables the precise computation of results involving multiple scattering. To validate the accuracy of the algorithm, we compared the simulated results with the theoretical values of the visible light scattering intensity from a Lambertian sphere. The relative error obtained was 0.8%. Subsequently, a complex scene of engineering vehicles and grass was established. The results of different observation angles and different coating materials were calculated and analyzed. In summary, the algorithm presented in this paper has the following advantages. Firstly, it is applicable to geometric models composed of any triangular mesh elements and accurately computes the effects of multiple scattering. Secondly, the algorithm combines the spectral BRDF information of materials and improves the efficiency of multiple scattering calculations using nonuniform sampling. In this paper, a novel method is demonstrated to sustain vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication on curvy roads via the arrangement of the lateral position of a self-angle-adjustable mirror–reflective road sign (SAAMRS) and light-direction-sensing wide-angle complementary photodiodes (CPDs). Visible light communication (VLC) between vehicles attracts attention as a complementary technology to radio-frequency-based (RF-based) communication technologies due to its wide, license-free spectrum and immunity to interferences. However, V2V VLC may be interrupted on curvy roads due to the limited field of view (FOV) of the receiver or the line of sight (LOS) being interrupted. To solve this problem, an experiment was developed using an SAAMRS along with wide-angle light-direction-sensing CPDs that used a precise peak detection (PPD) method to sustain communication between vehicles in dynamic environments by rerouting the incident light with the highest signal intensity level to the receiver vehicle on curvy roads. We also used real images of curvy roads simulated as polynomials to calculate the necessary rotation angles for the SAAMRS and regions where communication exist. Our experimental results overlapped almost completely with our simulations, with small errors of approximately 4.8% and 4.4% for the SAAMRS angle and communication region, respectively. In this paper, three-dimensional TiO2 nanoflowers (NFs) were prepared by a facile hydrothermal method, and Ag3PO4 was grown in situ following alkali treatment to design and synthesize a Ag3PO4/OH/TiO2 catalyst with excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light. The test results show that the photocatalytic degradation performance of TiO2 NFs after alkali treatment and Ag3PO4 loading is significantly improved. This is because the alkali treatment and the introduction of Ag3PO4 can provide a large amount of –OH, which can be converted to ˙OH under UV irradiation, followed by an increase in the number of active radicals to enhance the photocatalytic degradation performance. Meanwhile, the introduction of Ag3PO4 can effectively improve the light absorption ability of the photocatalyst. Moreover, the in situ growth of Ag3PO4 on TiO2 NFs can construct a high-quality Ag3PO4/TiO2 heterojunction to promote the charge separation and transport. Therefore, the degradation rate of Ag3PO4/OH/TiO2 can reach 90% after 30 min for degrading 3 mg L−1 RhB under visible light. The riparian zone is an area where land and water are intertwined, and vegetation is rich and complexly distributed. The zone can be directly involved in ecological regulation. In order to protect the ecological environment of the riparian zone, it is necessary to monitor the distribution of vegetation. However, there are many disturbing factors in extracting riparian vegetation, the most serious of which are water bodies with similar colours to the vegetation. To overcome the influence of water bodies on vegetation extraction from UAV imagery of riparian areas, this paper proposes a novel approach that combines the marked watershed algorithm with vegetation index recognition. First, the image is pre-segmented using edge detection, and the output is further refined with the marked watershed algorithm. Background areas are classified as potential regions for vegetation distribution. Subsequently, the final vegetation distribution is extracted from these potential vegetation areas using the vegetation index. The segmentation threshold for the vegetation index is automatically determined using the OTSU algorithm. The experimental results indicate that our method, when applied to UAV aerial imagery of the riparian zone, achieves an overall accuracy of over 94%, a user accuracy of over 97%, and a producer accuracy of over 93%. The intrusion of foreign objects on airport runways during aircraft takeoff and landing poses a significant safety threat to air transportation. Small-scale Foreign Object Debris (FOD) cannot be ruled out on time by traditional manual inspection, and there is also a potential risk of secondary foreign body intrusion. A deep-learning-based intelligent detection method is proposed to solve the problem of low accuracy and low efficiency of small-scale FOD detection. Firstly, a dual light camera system is utilized for the collection of FOD data. It generates a dual light FOD dataset containing both infrared and visible light images. Subsequently, a multi-attention mechanism and a bidirectional feature pyramid are integrated into the baseline network YOLOv5. This integration prioritizes the extraction of foreign object features and boosts the network's ability to distinguish FOD from complex backgrounds. Additionally, it enhances the fusion of higher-level features to improve the representation of multi-scale objects. To ensure fast and accurate localization and recognition of targets, the Complete-IoU (CIoU) loss function is used to optimize the bounding boxes' positions. The experimental results indicate that the proposed model achieves a detection speed of 36.3 frame/s, satisfying real-time detection requirements. The model also attains an average accuracy of 91.1%, which is 7.4% higher than the baseline network. Photocathodic protection (PCP) technology has gained wide attention in the field of corrosion due to its green, environmentally friendly, and sustainable characteristics, and has become a protection technology with broad development prospects in the future marine environment. By investigating recent research results, the mainstream photoanode materials are TiO2, BiVO4, g-C3N4, ZnO, In2O3, SrTiO3 and other materials. Among them, TiO2 is an ideal photoanode material for PCP because of its efficient photochemical corrosion resistance, remarkable reaction stability, and excellent photoelectric properties. However, TiO2 itself has more drawbacks, such as limited utilization of visible light and low photogenerated electron-hole separation efficiency. These defects limit the wide application of TiO2 in PCP. Through modification methods, the reaction efficiency can be substantially improved and the availability of TiO2 can be increased. This paper lists the research progress of modifying TiO2 materials using metal and non-metal doping modification, semiconductor compounding technology, and energy storage materials for application in PCP, and introduces several new types of photoanode materials. Aiming at defects such as low contrast in infrared ship images, uneven distribution of ship size, and lack of texture details, which will lead to unmanned ship leakage misdetection and slow detection, this paper proposes an infrared ship detection model based on the improved YOLOv8 algorithm (R_YOLO). The algorithm incorporates the Efficient Multi-Scale Attention mechanism (EMA), the efficient Reparameterized Generalized-feature extraction module (CSPStage), the small target detection header, the Repulsion Loss function, and the context aggregation block (CABlock), which are designed to improve the model's ability to detect targets at multiple scales and the speed of model inference. The algorithm is validated in detail on two vessel datasets. The comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that, in the infrared dataset, the YOLOv8s algorithm exhibits improvements in various performance metrics. Specifically, compared to the baseline algorithm, there is a 3.1% increase in mean average precision at a threshold of 0.5 (mAP (0.5)), a 5.4% increase in recall rate, and a 2.2% increase in mAP (0.5:0.95). Simultaneously, while less than 5 times parameters, the mAP (0.5) and frames per second (FPS) exhibit an increase of 1.7% and more than 3 times, respectively, compared to the CAA_YOLO algorithm. Visible Light Communication (VLC) has recently emerged as an alternative to RF-based wireless communications. Enhancing the piezoelectric polarization strength of materials to promote the photogenerated carrier separation is of great significance for piezoelectric polarization-assisted photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. In this paper, P-BiFeO3 composite photoelectrodes were synthesized by modifying BiFeO3 photoelectrodes with phosphate ions. The maximum photocurrent density of the P-BiFeO3 composite photoelectrodes could reach 0.87 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V vs RHE, which is significantly enhanced compared to the BiFeO3 photocurrent. The enhanced photoelectrochemical activity of the phosphate ion-modified BiFeO3 photoelectrodes may be attributed to the increased visible light absorption and larger active area due to the presence of phosphate groups. Furthermore, the photocurrent density of the P-BiFeO3 composite photoelectrodes after the introduction of the piezoelectric polarisation field reached 2.58 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V vs RHE, which was 2.2 times higher than that of BiFeO3 (1.17 mA cm−2). The presence of phosphate groups on the surface of BiFeO3 photoelectrodes can improve their asymmetry and increase their piezoelectric polarisation intensity, further enhancing the PEC water splitting performance of the material. Because of the ever-growing world population and the burgeoning of economic advancements, solving both environmental and energy-driven challenges are of prime concern. In the view of the current scenario, photocatalyst as an environmentally friendly method has rapidly emerged due to its prominent function in the conversion of solar energy for overcoming two aforementioned serious challenges. Recently, numerous attempts have been carried out for enhancing the visible-light photoactivity by application of TiO2 as photocatalyst because of its extensive scope of employment in both environmental-related and energy regions. Nevertheless, the photocatalytic performance of TiO2 under visible-light illumination is seriously restricted by the absorption edge in the ultra-violet range and the rapid electron–hole recombination. Extensive research has been dedicated to bypassing the shortcomings of titanium dioxide and hence improving its photoactivity under visible light. To be more specific, some approaches for modification of TiO2 properties include tetragonal BaTiO3 nanoparticles, ultrasound-assisted preparation of rGO/TiO2 nanocomposite, BaTiO3/ZnO heterostructured photocatalyst, Sol pH-induced ZnO-TiO2 multi-phase composite, BaTiO3/g-C3N4 heterojunction, TiO2-zeolite nanocomposite, etc., were explored and developed. Moreover, in this review paper, the authors briefly evaluated various nano-TiO2 synthesis methods, such as sol-gel, hydrothermal, solvothermal, and mixed ones. Despite the excellent achievements and the improvements in this area, the probability of nano-TiO2 modification for highly efficacious photocatalyst systems has not been completely explored and its commercialisation still is problematic. As a result, still, intensive research efforts require to effectively overcome those challenges for reaching a bright future in the wastewater treatment process with minimum environmental adverse effects. Nanoparticles, considered building blocks of nanotechnology, are a topic of widespread research due to their extraordinary properties that are useful in diverse sectors. Among all nanoparticle types, TiO2 (anatase) has drawn the most attention, primarily because of its superhydrophilic properties and effective antibacterial actions. Its applications include self-cleaning of solid surfaces, treatment of water and air, production of clean energy, treatment of microbial infections, pesticide management, etc. making TiO2 a focal point of research in materials science. However, the lack of photosensitivity to visible light (>390 nm) reduces the scope for utilising TiO2 in photocatalytic processes. Therefore, most studies on TiO2 nanoparticles have focused on broadening their spectral sensitivity through band gap manipulation for effective photocatalysis under visible light. Researchers have doped/co-doped metals and non-metals, such as N, C, F, S, B, Cu, Fe, V, Pt, etc. to nano-TiO2 to shorten its band gap with varying degrees of success. This review paper mainly focuses on the mechanism and effectivity of N and Fe co-doped TiO2 nanoparticles. The progress of scientific research on TiO2 photocatalysis has introduced an array of new applications using TiO2 nanoparticles, and these applications have also been discussed in this article. In the present paper, polyaniline modification of Mn 0.5 Cd 0.5 S composite (PANI/MCS) was fabricated by a simple electrostatic adsorption method. The introduction of PANI makes PANI/MCS composites have better visible light absorption and higher photogenerated carrier segregation efficiency, thus showing better photocatalytic performance. The results show that the 50-PANI/MCS photocatalyst has the best hydrogen production capacity, which was 2.2 times greater than neat MCS. Meanwhile, the nitrogen fixation performance of the best sample 50-PANI/MCS was 4.93 times that of pure MCS. After that, a reasonable reaction mechanism was obtained through various characterization data. A cheap and readily available composite photocatalyst has been synthesized. This paper has good reference value in the area of development of efficient composite photocatalyst. The visible light communication (VLC) technology has been gathering attention recently and as the emerging systems and appliances in this technology are still new, their behavior and performance issues must be taken into the consideration as much as possible. This paper aims to fully model the noise that is emanating from the usage of the Single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) in the VLC systems. This noise is either modeled with the sub-Poisson or Gaussian plus sub-Poisson distributions. These noise models are then applied to the diffusion adaptive networks to show the real-world impact of the VLC noisy links on their performances. The radio noisy link impacts have been investigated on the performance of the diffusion adaptive networks, however, the effects of the optical link noise on their performances is the contribution of this paper. Also, using the realistic and precise models for the optical noise is another novelty in this paper. Reflective electrochromic (EC) technology is expected to e‐paper display field, and integrating optical reflective electrolyte as the optical reflective layer is a common strategy for constructing reflective EC devices. Compositing inorganic particles and electrolytes is one of the simplest and most efficient composite methods, but these composite electrolytes usually cannot perform well together in terms of both optical and electrochemical properties. Herein, the TiO2 nanoparticles are added to the ethyl viologen‐based ionogel (T‐EVG, one typical kind of EC/electrolyte) to have the highest visible light reflectivity and the best electrochemical performance compared with SiO2, Al2O3, and ZnO nanoparticles, which is attributed to the electro‐induced self‐reduction TiO2 produced in T‐EVG during EC cycling. Meanwhile, the corresponding EC devices can display red, green, and blue, and have high optical contrast (CIE Lab: ΔE>38), fast switching spend (<4 s, the fastest is 5 Hz), ultra‐low power density (<4.0 mW cm−2), and excellent cycling stability (>85% retained after 10 000 cycles). Finally, a simple 3×3 pixelated EC display array is prepared, and single‐ and multi‐point (including diagonal points) multi‐color display effects are realized through active‐matrix driving and high‐frequency refresh, demonstrating its application value in the high‐performance e‐paper display. Free space optical communication is a potential technology that exploits the visible light frequency band for communication. In this paper, a free-space optical link (FSOL) optimization in visible light communication (VLC) is used to improve the channel performance for signal strength and analyze the effect of signal failures in a communication system. The data transmission and reception phenomenon are established using a light-emitting diode (LED) as a carrier at transmitter and photodiode as a detector at the receiver, respectively. The OptiSystem tool uses to optimize the component parameters of this proposed communication system. The bit error rate (BER) analyzer displays the signals as an eye diagram with the challenges of components uncertainty for better signal performance. The optimized components solve the problem encountered transmitting improve and enhance the signals strength. The acceptable eye diagram displayed from the BER analyzer has been resolved as a result of component optimizations by adding and removing noise to ascertain the behavior of the channel. A better signal retrieve by the display of the acceptable eye diagram from the OptiSystem software used. The FSOL components optimization improve the loss of data, weak signal, loss of power, signal failure, and signal errors which guarantee multi-mobile users with the shared signal. This paper presents an analytical study of signal clipping that leads to the noise/distortion in the waveform of DC-biased optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DCO-OFDM)-based visible light communication (VLC) systems. The pilot-assisted (PA) technique is used to reduce the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the time-domain waveform of the DCO-OFDM system. The bit error rate (BER) performance of the PA DCO-OFDM system is investigated analytically at three different clipping levels as well as without any clipping. The analytical BER performance is verified through simulation and then compared to that of the conventional DCO-OFDM without PAPR reduction at the selected clipping levels. Visible light technology presents significant advancement for indoor IoT applications. These systems offer enhanced bit rate transmission, enabling faster and reliable data transfer. Moreover, optical-based visible light systems facilitate improved location services within indoor environments. However, many of these systems still exhibit limited accuracy within several centimeters, even when relying on costly high-resolution cameras. This paper introduces a novel low-cost visible light system for 3D positioning, designed to enhance indoor positioning accuracy using low-resolution images. Initially, we propose a non-integer pixel (NI-P) algorithm to enhance precision without the need for higher-resolution images. This algorithm allows the system to identify the precise light spot coordinates on the low-resolution images, enabling accurate positioning. Subsequently, we present an algorithm leveraging the precise coordinate data from the previous step to determine the 3D position of objects even in front of errors in the measures. Benefiting from high accuracy, reduced cost, and low complexity, the proposed system is suitable for implementation on low-end hardware platforms, thereby increasing the versatility and feasibility of visible light technologies in indoor settings. Experimental results show an average 2D positioning error of 1.08 cm and 3D error within 1.4 cm at 2.3 m separation between the object and camera, achieved with an average positioning time of 20 ms on a low-end embedded device. Consequently, the proposed system offers fast and highly accurate indoor positioning and tracking capabilities, making it suitable for applications like mobile robots, automated guided vehicles, and indoor parking management. Aerial and remote sensing archaeology are tools for identifying marks on images of archaeological remains covered by soil. In other words, they are archaeological prospection tools that fall into the category of non-destructive research methods. In this paper, a short review of these valuable research tools is carried out, presenting the way marks appear, and also the categories of aerial and remote sensing archaeology, depending on the medium of storage of images and the type of platform of transfer of sensors. The timing of the emergence of each category is determined and examples of relevant surveys are presented. Focusing on the use of an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) with a multispectral sensor (aerial remote sensing archaeology), their partial utilization is revealed for collecting images in areas outside of the visible spectrum, aiming at the identification of covered archaeological remains. To this end, examples of the use of UAS with different sensors are presented and indexes that have been used so far in respective applications are gathered. Aerial remote sensing archaeology took place in two areas of particular interest in Northern Greece. UAS WingtraOne GEN II was used to collect multispectral images. In both study areas, soil and vegetation or crop marks were detected, possibly covered archaeological remains, initially in RGB orthophotomosaics and then more clearly in the index maps, such as the normalized difference vegetation index, simple ratio, brightness index, second brightness index, and anthocyanin reflectance index 2b. This paper explores a data augmentation approach for images of rigid bodies, particularly focusing on electrical equipment and analogous industrial objects. By leveraging manufacturer-provided datasheets containing precise equipment dimensions, we employed straightforward algorithms to generate synthetic images, permitting the expansion of the training dataset from a potentially unlimited viewpoint. In scenarios lacking genuine target images, we conducted a case study using two well-known detectors, representing two machine-learning paradigms: the Viola–Jones (VJ) and You Only Look Once (YOLO) detectors, trained exclusively on datasets featuring synthetic images as the positive examples of the target equipment, namely lightning rods and potential transformers. Performances of both detectors were assessed using real images in both visible and infrared spectra. YOLO consistently demonstrates F 1 scores below 26% in both spectra, while VJ's scores lie in the interval from 38% to 61%. This performance discrepancy is discussed in view of paradigms' strengths and weaknesses, whereas the relatively high scores of at least one detector are taken as empirical evidence in favor of the proposed data augmentation approach. Many substances looks black often means that these substance can completely absorb ultraviolet radiation and Visible incident light (UV). Ultraviolet and visible light account for 57 % of the incident energy of the sun. There are many substances that looks black, but have not been paid attention in the field of photothermal interface evaporation. Based on the above discussion, this paper selects the waste black round plastic lunch box and a piece of black garbage bag as solar photothermal materials to make a solar desalination device, and proves that these black garbage can be recycled and reused to make an interface solar evaporator. In this paper, a 2D desalination device with photothermal interface evaporation for solar thermal conversion was successfully fabricated using only black round plastic lunch box as photothermal material and polyester cloth as water delivery channel. In addition, a black garbage plastic bag as the only solar photothermal conversion material has also been reused in the preparation of 3D evaporators. Using the radiation cooling film as the diffuse reflection substrate, the 3D device makes the incident sunlight reflected from the radiation cooling film and polyester cloth to the black garbage plastic bag many times, making the whole evaporation device. It can reabsorb solar incident light many times. The pulse-coupled neural network (PCNN), due to its effectiveness in simulating the mammalian visual system to perceive and understand visual information, has been widely applied in the fields of image segmentation and image fusion. To address the issues of low contrast and the loss of detail information in infrared and visible light image fusion, this paper proposes a novel image fusion method based on an improved adaptive dual-channel PCNN model in the non-subsampled shearlet transform (NSST) domain. Firstly, NSST is used to decompose the infrared and visible light images into a series of high-pass sub-bands and a low-pass sub-band, respectively. Next, the PCNN models are stimulated using the weighted sum of the eight-neighborhood Laplacian of the high-pass sub-bands and the energy activity of the low-pass sub-band. The high-pass sub-bands are fused using local structural information as the basis for the linking strength for the PCNN, while the low-pass sub-band is fused using a linking strength based on multiscale morphological gradients. Finally, the fused high-pass and low-pass sub-bands are reconstructed to obtain the fused image. Comparative experiments demonstrate that, subjectively, this method effectively enhances the contrast of scenes and targets while preserving the detail information of the source images. Compared to the best mean values of the objective evaluation metrics of the compared methods, the proposed method shows improvements of 2.35%, 3.49%, and 11.60% in information entropy, mutual information, and standard deviation, respectively. To improve the water dispersibility of graphene based powder photocatalyst, titanium dioxide / graphene (TG) was first prepared using a hydrothermal method in this paper, and then the ternary composite photocatalytic materials were prepared by covalently grafting TG with dyes containing hydrophilic groups. The bandgap, water dispersibility, and photocatalytic degradation performance of methylene blue (MB) simulated wastewater of the photo-catalysts were mainly investigated. The results showed that the bandgaps of the DTG series of composites were narrowed compared to that of TG, extending the light response range to the visible light region. The composite D2.70 TG exhibited good water dispersibility, and no significant precipitation aggregation occurred after 7 days of testing. The removal rate of MB in the simulated wastewater by D2.70 TG under the irradiation of visible light for 2 h was over 99%, and the removal rate remained above 95% after 5 cycles of experimentation. Visible light communication (VLC) and visible light positioning (VLP) systems are usually designed separately to prevent mutual interference, while terminal mobility often introduces challenges that can degrade their performance. In this paper, we propose an integrated visible light communication and positioning (VLCP) scheme designed for mobile scenarios, encompassing both multiple-input–single-output (MISO) and multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) configurations. This scheme integrates both functionalities into a unified system. Utilizing decision feedback channel estimation (DFCE), we effectively estimate the dynamic channel state information (CSI) for both VLC and VLP, thereby potentially enhancing both communication and positioning performance. Simulation results across various routes verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. It is observed that when the terminal moves at 1 m/s, the VLCP scheme with DFCE can maintain reliable transmission quality, ensuring bit error rates (BERs) consistently below 1.3 × 10−2. Additionally, the mean positioning errors remain within the centimeter range in different routes, not exceeding 4.3 cm and 15.5 cm in the MISO and MIMO scenarios, respectively. Rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is a powerful and upcoming multiple access technique that can serve as a promising technology for 5G and beyond applications. Due to the increase in the number of indoor communication devices, the internet of everything (IoE) demands higher bandwidth. Visible light communication (VLC) would be a viable solution for an indoor environment that offers high bandwidth, cost-free spectrum, and low power, and if employed with RSMA, the sum rate can be maximized. In this paper, we derive the closedform outage probability (OP) for the downlink RSMA-based VLC scheme over Rayleigh and Rician channels. We perform outage analyses for perfect as well as imperfect channel state information (CSI) and successive interference cancellation (SIC), respectively to study the system characteristics. Also, we show the superiority of RSMA over non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for VLC-based system in terms of OP over Rayleigh and Rician channels. From the simulations, we show that the RSMA-based VLC system outperforms conventional NOMAbased VLC and the quality of services improves with the line of sight communication i.e., the Rician fading channel. There is an extensive range of carbon substances with poorly ordered structures that are not well understood. Yet they are important indicators of conditions of related geological processes. The carbon minerals include nanocrystalline graphite, natural analogs of glass-like carbon (GLC)—shungite and impact ultrahigh-pressure GLC, recently discovered ultranocrystalline diamond, as well as natural carbon nanocomposites of diamond, lonsdaleite, and graphite. Studying these natural carbon substances using a standard Raman approach with excitation by visible radiation may lead to a significant distortion of the understanding of their phase states. This paper presents in detail for the first time the spectral features of natural, poorly ordered, and multiphase sp2-sp3 carbon composites by multi-wave Raman spectroscopy using laser excitations from visible to ultraviolet light applied to natural low-ordered carbon substances—nanocrystalline graphite and shungite, nanocrystalline and ultranocrystalline diamond, and multiphase carbon aggregates. The carbon state resolution advantages of ultraviolet Raman spectroscopy for phase analysis of nanostructured and poorly ordered polycomponent carbon substances containing sp2- and sp3-carbons are presented. Raman spectroscopy with ultraviolet excitation can also be applied in the analysis of industrial carbon materials, such as glassy carbon and functional carbon nanocomposites, including ultranocrystalline diamond, lonsdaleite, and amorphous sp3-carbon components. This paper introduces an approach to enhance the efficiency of urban intersections by integrating Visible Light Communication (VLC) into a multi-intersection traffic control system. The main objectives include the reduction in waiting times for vehicles and pedestrians, the improvement of overall traffic safety, and the accommodation of diverse traffic movements during multiple signal phases. The proposed system utilizes VLC to facilitate communication among interconnected vehicles and infrastructure. This is achieved by utilizing streetlights, headlamps, and traffic signals for transmitting information. By integrating VLC localization services with learning-driven traffic signal control, the multi-intersection traffic management system is established. A reinforcement learning scheme, based on VLC queuing/request/response behaviors, is utilized to schedule traffic signals effectively. Agents placed at each intersection control traffic lights by incorporating information from VLC-ready cars, including their positions, destinations, and intended routes. The agents devise optimal strategies to improve traffic flow and engage in communication to optimize the collective traffic performance. An assessment of the multi-intersection scenario through the SUMO urban mobility simulator reveals considerable benefits. The system successfully reduces both waiting and travel times. The reinforcement learning approach effectively schedules traffic signals, and the results highlight the decentralized and scalable nature of the proposed method, especially in multi-intersection scenarios. This paper presents findings from a spaceborne Earth observation experiment utilizing a novel, ultra-compact hyperspectral imaging camera aboard a 3U CubeSat. Leveraging the Offner optical scheme, the camera's hyperspectrometer captures hyperspectral images of terrestrial regions with a 200 m spatial resolution and 12 nanometer spectral resolution across a 400 to 1000 nanometer wavelength range, covering 150 channels in the visible and near-infrared spectrums. The hyperspectrometer is specifically designed for deployment on a 3U CubeSat nanosatellite platform, featuring a robust all-metal cylindrical body of the hyperspectrometer, and a coaxial arrangement of the optical elements ensures optimal compactness and vibration stability. The performance of the imaging hyperspectrometer was rigorously evaluated through numerical simulations prior to construction. Analysis of hyperspectral data acquired over a year-long orbital operation demonstrates the 3U CubeSat's ability to produce various vegetation indices, including the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). A comparative study with the European Space Agency's Sentinel-2 L2A data shows a strong agreement at critical points, confirming the 3U CubeSat's suitability for hyperspectral imaging in the visible and near-infrared spectrums. In this paper, a downlink energy efficiency maximization problem is investigated in an intelligent reflective surface (IRS)-assisted visible light communication system. In order to extend wireless communication coverage of the onshore base station, an IRS mounted on a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is introduced to assist an onshore lighthouse with simultaneously providing remote ship users wireless communication services and illumination. Aiming to maximizing the energy efficiency of the proposed system, a resource allocation problem is formulated as the ratio of the achievable system sum rate to the total power consumption under the constraints of the user's data requirement and transmit power budget. Due to the non-convexity of the proposed problem, the Dinkelbach method and mean-square error (MSE) method are adopted to turn the non-convex origin problem into two equivalent problems, namely transmit beamforming and reflected phase shifting. The Lagrangian method and semidefinite relaxation technique are used to obtain the closed-form solutions of these two subproblems. Accordingly, an alternative optimization-based resource allocation scheme is proposed to obtain the optimal system energy efficiency. Biosensors are becoming ubiquitous in the study of biomolecules, as, by modifying shape size and environment of metallic nanostructures it is now possible to engineer the field so to monitor subtle transient changes in molecular conformation at the level of a single biolayer. In this paper, we present a first step towards a polarization-resolved study of light-induced conformational changes of transmembrane proteins. We exploit a platform of self-organized gold nanorods on SiO2 substrates to enhance the infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy and to perform difference spectroscopy (i.e., spectrum under visible light ON minus spectrum under visible light OFF) on a light-sensitive transmembrane protein with simultaneous visible light illumination from the backside of the chip. The broad size distribution of nanorods allows us to probe with high sensitivity the modifications of the vibrational peaks over the entire fingerprint region. We show that it is possible to identify dissimilarities in the difference spectra, which in turn implies that we are monitoring over a broadband spectrum not only the chemical bonds with the dipole moment aligned orthogonally to our substrate/nanorod surface but also those with different orientation. The current scoping review's objective was to outline existing applications, recent breakthroughs, and quantum dots' applicability in imaging of oral squamous cell cancer. Quantum dots are nanometric semiconductor crystals with customizable optical characteristics and intense, stable fluorescence suited for bioimaging and labeling. We used the Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) recommendations for conducting our systematic search. An analysis of the properties and applications of quantum dots in noninvasive detection of oral squamous cell cancer is presented in this study, which comprehensively explores the available evidence. Following searches in the databases PubMed, Ovid SP, and Cochrane using the search terms quantum dots AND oral squamous cell cancer, 55 published publications were chosen for this review. The review identified a total of eight papers that met the criteria. In noninvasive detection of oral squamous cell carcinoma, quantum dots have the potential to offer an array of therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Furthermore, quantum dots emit near-infrared and visible light, which is advantageous in biological imaging since it reduces light dispersion and absorption of tissue. The future may see quantum dots become a popular noninvasive imaging technique for oral squamous cell cancer. The number of studies accessible is quite limited, and further research is required. In this article, Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRS) are used for Non Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) in hybrid Radio Frequency (RF) Visible Light Communications (VLC). The source broadcasts the symbols of K users. The broadcasted signal by the source is reflected by IRS on RF link to reach the relay node R with the same phase. Relay node detects the symbols of K users using Interference Cancelation (IC). Then, relay nodes broadcasts the symbols of K users on VLC link. We show that NOMA using IRS for hybrid RF/VLC offers 12–18 dB gain versus conventional hybrid RF/VLC without reflectors for N = 32 ,168 reflectors. The main advantage of the paper is to enhance the throughput of RF/VLC systems using IRS. The main limitation of the paper is that the results are not valid when energy harvesting is performed. As a contender in the competitive landscape of next-generation wireless communication technologies, visible light communication (VLC) stands out due to its potential for enhancing transmission rates and spectrum resource utilization. VLC offers various advantages, including license-free operation, high confidentiality, and cost-effectiveness. However, practical implementation faces challenges stemming from the limited modulation bandwidth of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), constraining system capacity and VLC communication rates. To address this limitation, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) emerges as a novel multiple access strategy, particularly suitable for enhancing the capacity and communication rates of downlink VLC systems through power multiplexing. This paper delves into the energy-efficient design of joint LED association and power allocation (LA–PA) for downlink NOMA-based VLC systems. Through an analysis of channel capacity, we transform the non-convex energy-efficient optimization model, accounting for signal non-negativity, per-LED optical power constraints, and user rate constraints, into a convex form. Subsequently, we propose an iterative power allocation algorithm to attain solutions for the optimization problem with pre-established LED associations. Furthermore, we derive a feasibility condition for an LED association, considering signal non-negativity, per-LED optical power constraints, power constraints for successive interference cancellation (SIC), and channel gain between transceiver signals. This condition identifies feasible LEDs capable of maximizing energy efficiency (EE) when combined with the aforementioned power allocation algorithm. Finally, we illustrate the superiority of the joint LA–PA scheme in terms of the EE, transmission reliability, and transmission capacity performance gain over NOMA in the context of VLC. This paper presents an enhanced version of our previously developed bio-optical transceiver, presenting a significant advancement in nanosensor technology. Using self-assembled polymers, this nanodevice is capable of electron detection while maintaining biocompatibility, an essential feature for in vivo medical biosensors. This enhancement finds significance in the field of infectious disease control, particularly in the early detection of respiratory viruses, including high-threat pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. The proposed system harnesses bioluminescence by converting electric signaling to visible blue light, effectively opening the path of linking nano-sized mechanisms to larger-scale systems, thereby pushing the boundaries of in vivo biomedical sensing. The performance evaluation of our technology is analytical and is based on the use of Markov chains, through which we assess the bit error probability. The calculated improvements indicate that this technology qualifies as a forerunner in terms of supporting the communication needs of smaller, safer, and more efficient manufactured sensor technologies for in vivo medical applications.
