Buckypaper (BP), a flexible and porous material, exhibits photovoltaic properties when exposed to light. In this study, we employed radio frequency (RF) sputtering of zinc oxide (ZnO) followed by rapid thermal annealing to enhance the photovoltaic response of BP. We investigated the impact of various sputtering parameters, such as the gas flow ratio of argon to oxygen and deposition time, on the morphology, composition, resistivity, and photovoltaic characteristics of ZnO-modified BP. Additionally, the photovoltaic performance of the samples under different illumination modes and wavelengths was compared. It was found that optimal sputtering conditions—argon to oxygen flow ratio of 1:2, deposition time of 20 min, and power of 100 watts—resulted in a ZnO film thickness of approximately 45 nanometers. After annealing at 400 °C for 10 min, the ZnO-modified BP demonstrated a significant increase in photocurrent and photovoltage, along with a reduction in resistivity, compared to unmodified BP. Moreover, under gradient illumination, the ZnO-modified BP exhibited a photovoltage enhancement of 14.70-fold and a photocurrent increase of 13.86-fold, compared to uniform illumination. Under blue light, it showed a higher photovoltaic response than under other colors. The enhancement in photovoltaic response is attributed to the formation of a Schottky junction between ZnO and BP, an increased carrier concentration gradient, and an expanded light absorption spectrum. Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are expected to be one of the next generations of high-energy-density battery systems due to their high theoretical energy density of 2600 Wh kg−1. Embracing the trends toward flexibility, lightweight design, and cost-effectiveness, paper-based electrodes offer a promising alternative to traditional coated cathodes in Li–S batteries. Within paper-based electrodes, conductive fibers such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) play a crucial role. They help to form a three-dimensional network within the paper matrix to ensure structural integrity over extended cycling while mitigating the shuttle effect by confining sulfur within the cathode. Herein, we explore how variously functionalized CNTs, serving as conductive fibers, impact the physical and electrochemical characteristics of paper-based sulfur cathodes in Li–S batteries. Specifically, graphitized hydroxylated carbon nanotubes (G-CNTs) exhibit remarkable capacity at low currents owing to their excellent conductivity and interaction with lithium polysulfide (LiPS), achieving the highest initial specific capacity of 1033 mAh g−1 at 0.25 C (1.1 mA cm−2). Aminated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (NH2-CNTs) demonstrate an enhanced affinity for LiPS due to the -NH2 groups. However, the uneven distribution of these fibers may induce electrode surface passivation during charge–discharge cycles. Notably, hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (OH-CNTs) can establish a uniform and stable 3D network with plant fibers, showcasing superior mechanical properties and helping to mitigate Li2S agglomeration while preserving the electrode porosity. The paper-based electrode integrated with OH-CNTs even retains a specific capacity of approximately 800 mAh g−1 at about 1.25 C (5 mA cm−2), demonstrating good sulfur utilization and rate capacity compared to other CNT variants.

Direct air capture (DAC) is a sustainable technology to alleviate the greenhouse effect and a reliable pathway to acquire inexhaustible CO2 for the production of costly chemicals and energy products. Current DAC technologies with amine‐related sorbents rely on chemisorption, while they consume intensive energy for CO2 release and sorbent regeneration by heating. Developing new DAC processes with weak, reversible adsorption can substantially reduce the regeneration energies. Herein, the design of CO2 breathing paper (CBP) is demonstrated toward spontaneous CO2 extraction from ambient air and solar‐driven regeneration. The CBP is fabricated by coupling 2‐ethyl‐4‐methylimidazole to carbon nanotube paper on the basis of density functional theory calculations. At ambient conditions, CBP spontaneously captures atmospheric CO2 with a capacity of 0.14–1.75 mmol g–1 at 0–35 °C through non‐covalent electrostatic interaction. Upon exposure to sunlight, all adsorbed CO2 can be released and converted to concentrated gas for storage. Attractively, the efficiency of solar‐driven CO2 release is much higher than the traditional temperature‐swing method owing to the IR sensitivity of CO2. As power sources for Internet-of-Things sensors, thermoelectric generators must exhibit compactness, flexibility, and low manufacturing costs. Stretchable and flexible painted thermoelectric generators were fabricated on Japanese paper using inks with dispersed p- and n-type single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The p- and n-type SWCNT inks were dispersed using the anionic surfactant of sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate and the cationic surfactant of dimethyldioctadecylammonium chloride, respectively. The bundle diameters of the p- and n-type SWCNT layers painted on Japanese paper differed significantly; however, the crystallinities of both types of layers were almost the same. The thermoelectric properties of both types of layers exhibited mostly the same values at 30 °C; however, the properties, particularly the electrical conductivity, of the n-type layer increased linearly, and of the p-type layer decreased as the temperature increased. The p- and n-type SWCNT inks were used to paint striped patterns on Japanese paper. By folding at the boundaries of the patterns, painted generators can shrink and expand, even on curved surfaces. The painted generator (length: 145 mm, height: 13 mm) exhibited an output voltage of 10.4 mV and a maximum power of 0.21 μW with a temperature difference of 64 K at 120 °C on the hot side. This study investigates the impact of plasma gradient modification and gradient illumination on the optoelectronic properties of buckypaper (BP), a flexible and large-scale material composed of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The BP samples were subjected to argon ion plasma treatment at varying power levels and durations, thereby creating different carrier concentration gradients on the surface. The photovoltage and photocurrent responses of the samples were then measured under uniform full illumination and gradient illumination conditions. The findings revealed that both plasma gradient modification and gradient illumination significantly enhanced the optoelectronic performance of BP. Notably, the combined application of these two methods yielded superior results compared to the application of either method alone. Specifically, the optimal plasma power for improving BP was found to be 20 W. Under conditions of plasma gradient modification and gradient illumination, a photovoltage of 267.76 μV was generated, which represents a 21.44 times increase, and a photocurrent of 15.69 μA, reflecting a 32.69 times enhancement. The mechanism underlying this optoelectronic effect can be attributed to the presence of π-bonds in the carbon atoms. These π-bonds are excited by photons, resulting in the generation of small voltages and currents. This study underscores the potential of BP as an optoelectronic material and introduces a novel approach to enhance its optoelectronic properties through plasma gradient modification and gradient illumination. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are a high-quality interlamination reinforcement material, but the high viscosity of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) prevents good fusion between MWCNTs and PEEK. This study proposes a method to achieve the complete integration of MWCNTs and PEEK through the preparation of a composite film using the vacuum suction filtration (VSF) method and optimizes the process parameters. An orthogonal experiment with three factors (filter paper pore size, ultrasonic dispersion time, and PEEK content) at three levels is designed, and mechanical performance testing and microscopic morphology observation are conducted. The influence of the three factors of filter paper pore size, ultrasonic time, and PEEK content on the elastic modulus and tensile strength of the film is investigated. The results are a filter paper pore size of 0.45 μm, ultrasonic time of 8.3 h, and PEEK content of 336.524 mg. The mechanical performance obtained under the optimal process parameters are an elastic modulus of 2437.5723 MPa and a tensile strength of 46.5196 MPa. We report for the first time MoS2/CNT hybrid nanostructures for memristor applications on flexible and bio-degradable cellulose paper. In our approach, we varied two different weight percentages (10% and 20%) of CNT's in MoS2 to improve the MoS2 conductivity and investigate the memristor device characteristics. The device with 10% CNT shows a low V SET voltage of 2.5 V, which is comparatively small for planar devices geometries. The device exhibits a long data retention time and cyclic current–voltage stability of ∼104 s and 102 cycles, making it a potential candidate in flexible painted electronics. Along with good electrical performance, it also demonstrates a high mechanical stability for 1000 bending cycles. The conduction mechanism in the MoS2-CNT hybrid structure is corroborated by percolation and defect-induced filament formation. Additionally, the device displays synaptic plasticity performance, simulating potentiation and depression processes. Furthermore, such flexible and biodegradable cellulose-based paper electronics may pave the way to address the environmental pollution caused by electronic waste in the near future. Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have attracted much interest as an alternative energy conversion technology and as a system for recovering and treating wastewater. MFC is a powerful technique for generating energy from various sources, including natural organic matter and renewable biomass. It has several possible applications, including power generation for many small electronic devices, wastewater treatment, and biosensors. However, the restricted power output of MFCs is the most significant impediment to their widespread use and up-scaling in practical applications. The anode electrode is the most critical component of an MFC, where poor anode electrode performance leads to poor MFC efficiency. Therefore, efforts have been made to modify electrodes to improve their performance. While power density is an essential metric in determining MFC efficiency, other parameters such as Coulombic efficiency, current density, cell voltage, and the removal rate of chemical oxygen demand (COD) should also be considered to evaluate the performance of MFC. This study reviews the most recent electrode modification techniques through anode treatments with metal oxides, conductive polymers, carbon nanotubes, and other chemical compounds as well as through cathode modifications. Herein, we report on conductive ultrathin films (nanosheets) with the characteristics of stretchability and water vapor permeability for skin-conformable bioelectrodes. The films are fabricated by combining conductive fibrous networks of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) (SBS) nanosheets (i.e., SWCNT-SBS nanosheets). An increase in the number of SWCNT coatings increases both the thicknesses and densities of the SWCNT bundles. The SBS nanosheets coated with three layers of SWCNTs (i.e., SWCNT 3rd-SBS nanosheets) show comparable sheet resistance to the SBS nanosheets coated with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxithiophene) doped with poly(4-styrenesulfonate acid) (PEDOT:PSS) containing 5 wt.% butylene glycol (i.e., PEDOT:PSS/BG5-SBS nanosheets). In addition, the SWCNT 3rd-SBS nanosheets exhibit significantly reduced elastic moduli and increased elongations at break compared to the PEDOT:PSS/BG5-SBS nanosheets. Furthermore, the calculated water vapor transmission ratio of the 210-nm-thick SBS nanosheets (268,172 g m−2 (2 h)−1) is greater than that of the filter paper (6345 g m−2 (2 h)−1). The SWCNT 3rd-SBS nanosheets attached to model skin show high tolerances to bending and artificial sweat at different pH values (i.e., the electrical resistance changes ~1.1 times). Finally, the SWCNT 3rd-SBS nanosheet is applied to detect the surface electromyogram from the forearm of a subject. This nanosheet displays a signal-to-noise ratio similar to that of the PEDOT:PSS/BG5-SBS nanosheet. We report on conductive ultrathin films (referred to as "nanosheets") with stretchability and water vapor permeability for skin-conformable bioelectrodes. Herein, we have developed a cellulose paper-based aptasensing protocol by employing dynamic laser speckle (DLS) analysis for direct and label-free probing of the binding interface. Cellulose filter paper surface was modified by using the mussel adhesion chemistry of polydopamine modified carbon nanotubes (PDA@CNTS). The mussel chemistry resulted in strong adhesion and binding of PDA@CNTs on cellulose paper surface. The modified surface was subsequently employed in the construction of label free aptasensor for detection of cancer biomarker mucin 1 (MUC1). Taking advantage of DLS technique, it provided us with sensitive and accurate analysis of target biomarker MUC1 by the intrinsic randomness of patterns generated from cellulose based paper surface. The developed aptasensor was evaluated using DLS at various fabrication steps, where the scattered laser beams from these samples were collected and analyzed based on the obtained speckle patterns. Under the optimal experimental conditions, paper-based aptasensor achieved sensitive and selective detection of MUC1, exhibiting excellent linear range (15–100) µM with a limit of detection of 1 µM. This work presents a novel study of promising laser speckle paper-based aptasensor, providing new insights for the development of low-cost, sensitive, and portable paper-based analytical tools for biological applications. A paper-based flexible heating device (PFHD - paper-based flexible heating device) composed of a cellulose paper substrate and a carbonaceous functional electrode is reported. The functional composite electrodes containing graphene nanoplatelets (GNP - graphene nanoplatelets) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) in various compositional ratios were prepared by dip-coating the oxygen plasma-treated paper substrate into the composite ink, and subsequently dried at 110 ℃ for 30 min to prepare PFHDs. The electrochemical characteristics and heat generation properties of PFHDs indicated that the GNP component in the functional electrode enhanced the electrical conductivity of the electrode, and the physical stability was enhanced mainly by the MWCNT component. Accordingly, PFHD 0.33 which contains 33 % GNP and 67 % MWCNT in the functional electrode shows excellent heating performance with high stability and areal rated power of 0.68 W cm−2 (specific rated power = 45 W g−1). Flexible humidity sensors have been widely used in wearable electronics, owing to their flexibility and compatibility with electronic device substrates. This study fabricated a flexible paper-based humidity sensor with a grid-like sensing film using the near-field electrohydrodynamic direct writing (NFEDW) method. A grid-like sensing layer with a dense network of carbon nanotubes/cellulose nanofiber (CNTs/CNF) was prepared, and induced by a voltage field applied during printing. The effects of the substrates and pattern width on the performance of the sensor were systematically investigated. The prepared sensor exhibited high sensitivity of 101 % at 95 % relative humidity (RH). An interlocking structure formed between the CNTs/CNF composite and the paper substrate, endowing the sensor with outstanding bending (minimum diameter of 5 mm) and folding (up to 100 times) durability. Furthermore, the prepared sensor exhibited rapid response performance (17 % within 10 s). This addresses the issue of long response time, which is typically associated with CNTs-based sensors, making these sensors more suitable to practical applications. The above-mentioned advantages enable the sensor to be used for respiration monitoring and even for vocal recognition. Cellulose paper has been studied for its application as an antibacterial filter, due to its robust porous structure, minimal ecological footprint, biocompatibility, and inherent antibacterial properties. Moreover, its properties can be further enhanced via surface functionalization with metallic nanoparticles (NPs) such as silver, zinc, etc. However, the synthesis of metallic NPs is challenging, costly, and environmentally harmful. On the other hand, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are highly suitable as an additive to cellulose paper due to their high electrical conductivity, excellent mechanical strength, ease of fabrication, and antibacterial properties. In this study, we coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on Hanji, a traditional Korean paper, using a simple dipping method and investigated its antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli). The MWCNT-coated Hanji exhibited an inhibition efficiency of ~ 93% against E. coli cells. Moreover, the MWCNT coating resulted in improved mechanical strength, enhanced electrical conductivity, and increased hydrophobicity of the Hanji. Furthermore, it was observed that MWCNTs exhibited exceptionally stable adhesion to the Hanji surface. Our finding shows that MWCNT-coated Hanji could be utilized as an antibacterial material that is used as masks, air pollution filters, and wallpapers in hospitals and residential complexes, and an efficient platform for antiviral studies. • Three-dimensional WO 2 /MoO 2 @P, N-CNTs were prepared by the Self-template method. • Highly conductive and hollow structure of WO 2 /MoO 2 @P, N-CNTs avoided aggregation of NiCo-LDH. • IMSC devices were prepared by fully screen-printed technology. • IMSCs demonstrated excellent energy density (0.0590 mWh cm−2), cycling stability (100% capacity retention after 10,000 cycles) and mechanical stability (lighting the bulb under extremely distorted conditions). In-plane micro-supercapacitors (IMSCs) have greater promise for use in flexible wearable electronics than traditional stacked configurations due to their ease of integration and conformability. Nickel-cobalt layered double hydroxide (NiCo-LDH) has garnered significant interest as a stellar material for supercapacitors because of its affordable price, regular morphology, and high theoretical capacity. Unfortunately, the intrinsic poor conductivity of LDH materials prevents supercapacitors from achieving long-term stable cycling and the desired energy density. This research successfully applies the self-templated approach to prepare carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with heterogeneous architectures and numerous phase interfaces, thereby mitigating this disadvantage. Carbon nanosheets adorned with WO 2 and MoO 2 nanoparticles assemble the CNT with a typical three-dimensional structure. When combined with LDH in a suitable ratio, the composite electrode's conductivity significantly improves, providing increased capacity and cycling stability. Compared to commercial CNTs, the larger size of the prepared WO 2 /MoO 2 @P, N-CNTs serves a superior supporting and connecting role, thereby preventing the NiCo-LDH from aggregating. Under the best conditions, the composite electrode demonstrates a capacity of 1237 C/g at 1 A g−1 and an optimal capacity retention of more than 92%. For the IMSC devices, the composite materials as the positive electrode achieve an energy density of 0.0590 mWh cm−2, and no capacity degradation is observed after 10,000 cycles. In addition, bending tests have demonstrated the mechanical stability of the IMSCs. Therefore, this strategy of mixing highly conductive WO 2 /MoO 2 @P, N-CNTs can effectively improve the conductivity of the composite material and the mechanical properties of the overall device. Microfluidic paper-based analytical device (μPAD) offers a simple and efficient platform for point-of-care monitoring, which can be beneficial for copper determination in livestock feed and manure. However, common cellulose paper has excellent hydrophilicity, causing μPAD is accompanied by poor mechanical properties, short service life, and low sensitivity. Here, a self-cleaning paper-based microfluidic biosensor for Cu2+ determination was proposed to overcome the mentioned shortages in the application. Polymeric octadecyl trichlorosilane was synthesized and decorated on cellulose paper to form hydrophobic paper, which can improve the hydrophobicity, self-cleaning, and pollution ability. In addition, hydrophobic paper, semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube, and DNAzyme through the chemical bond were employed to fabricate a self-cleaning paper-based microfluidic biosensor. The properties were investigated using scanning electron microscopy, Raman, and electrochemical methods. The detecting parameters were also optimized. It could measure the Cu2+ concentration from 1 nM to 100 μM, and the detection limit was 0.65 nM. The self-cleaning paper-based microfluidic biosensor was applied to detect Cu2+ concentration in livestock feed and manure that can meet the requirements for fast screening and detection. Analysis of neurotransmitters such as dopamine (DA) is essential to better understand brain-related mechanisms. In this context, paper-based electroanalytical devices are promising alternatives to the current techniques for affordable, user-friendly molecular quantitation. Conductive carbon-based and polymer-based inks such as carbon nanotubes (CNT) and polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) have shown several advantageous properties, such as resistance to the DA fouling occurring during the electrochemical detection. Here, the electrical and electrochemical properties of paper devices prepared from mixtures of the inks were investigated, as well as their DA detection performance (limit of detection and fouling resistance). The properties of these paper electrodes were found to be directly impacted by the choice of ink. CNT-based electrodes are more resistive than the PEDOT:PSS based ones, which are more capacitive. Also, electrodes with undercoats of CNT and overcoats of PEDOT:PSS, doped with organic solvents, better resist DA fouling and have lower limits of detection. The combination of carbon-based and polymer-baser inks allowed for optimizing DA detection, and highlights the versatility and adaptability of paper-based electrode fabrication. Dual‐ion batteries have been considered as a competitive energy‐storage device. However, owing to the lack of suitable high‐capacity density and rapid‐charging electrode materials, designing a cost‐effective and high‐performance dual‐ion battery is still a great challenge. Herein, an ultrahigh‐capacity dual‐ion battery is constructed based on a carbon‐nanotubes (CNTs) containing SnS2‐MoS2@CNTs heterojunction anode and highly crystalline free‐standing graphite paper serves as cathode. The SnS2‐MoS2@CNTs heterojunction consisting of ultrathin nanosheets was prepared via a facile two‐step hydrothermal method and shows flower‐like morphology and high crystallinity. Benefiting from the unique design concept, the graphite paper/SnS2‐MoS2@CNTs dual‐ion battery delivers a high capacity of 274.2 mAh g−1 at 100 mA g−1 and has an outstanding capacity retention of 95 % after 300 cycles under 400 mA g−1. Even at a high current density of 2 A g−1 the battery still retains a considerable capacity of 112.3 mAh g−1. More importantly, the battery shows an extremely low self‐discharge of 0.006 % h−1 after resting for 24 h. Characterization using SEM and XRD further demonstrate the excellent cycling stability and good reversibility. Gas reactant transport plays a crucial role in various gas‐consumption reaction‐based electrochemical devices, but the pivotal performance limitation still centers on gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs). To this end, natural cross‐cut wood to prepare GDEs for aluminum–air batteries is introduced by utilizing the ordered structure with microchannels. With cobalt–nitrogen co‐doped carbon nanotubes as the oxygen reduction reaction catalysts grown inside the channels of carbonized wood slice and wettability gradient modification, cherry‐based GDE achieves higher power density (267 vs. 236 mW cm−2) than the commercial carbon fiber paper‐based electrode. By bridging the identified characteristics of pore structure via deep‐learning image recognition technology with the permeability of other three typical kinds of (ash, pine, and oak) wood‐based GDEs, it is revealed that the ratio of effective porosity to the average pore size is key to the performance. This work demonstrates the feasibility of bio‐derived wood‐based materials for fabricating high‐performance GDEs and provides insights into pore structure for the rational design of structured electrodes. Approximate computing is an emerging paradigm that can tolerate some loss of accuracy to improve the energy consumption and design complexity. Multiplication is one of the important computational components in various digital signal processing (DSP) applications. Improvement of multipliers, as the building blocks of an approximate computing systems, has received significant attention. Compressors are key elements in an approximate multiplier to have an optimal design with high performance. This paper proposes an approximate/exact 4–2 compressor and an exact 5–2 compressor in carbon nanotube field-effect transistors (CNTFET) technology for utilisation in an approximate multiplier. Four efficient designs for utilising the proposed compressors are introduced and analysed for a Wallace multiplier. All of the proposed circuits are analysed in 32 nm CNTFET Stanford technology and are simulated by HSPICE. In addition, as an image processing application of approximate multipliers, this paper compares the quality metrics of the image multiplication for the proposed designs and previously presented approximated multipliers. For example, the proposed schemes provide excellent results in structural similarity index up to 99%, and peak signal-to-noise ratio more than 45 dB. Also, it uses figure of metric (FOM) that includes the accuracy and quality metrics of the approximate multipliers. The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of proposed designs. A carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet is a nonwoven fabric that is being evaluated for use in different textile applications. Several properties of pristine CNT sheets and CNT sheets coated with a polysilazane sealant and coating were measured and compared in the paper. The polysilazane coating is used to reduce the shedding of CNT fibers from the sheet when the sheet is in contact with surfaces. Most fabrics show some shedding of fibers during the washing or abrasion of the fabric. This study showed that the coating reduces the shedding of fibers from CNT fabric. The coating also increased the flame resistance of the fabric. The pristine and coated sheets both have low strength but high strain to failure. The pristine and coated CNT sheet densities are 0.48 g/cc and 0.65 g/cc, respectively. The pristine CNT sheet is approximately 27 μ thick. The coated sheet is approximately 24 μ thick. The coating may have densified the sheet, making it thinner. The thickness of the compliant sheets was difficult to measure and is a source of error in the properties. Characterization results are given in this paper. The results are for comparison purposes and not to establish material properties data. Possible applications for CNT sheets are briefly discussed. The application of hydrogels in the field of wearable flexible sensors has been widely discussed. However, most hydrogels have certain limitations in their mechanical properties, stability and self-recovery, which greatly limits their application in flexible sensors. In this paper, carbon nanotube composite hydrogels with good stability and high tensile properties were prepared by using acrylamide (AM), cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as raw materials in water/glycerol by using a one-pot method. The composite hydrogels were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and their mechanical properties, conductivity and stability were tested. The results show that the composite hydrogel has a higher elongation at break (596.02%) and a higher tensile strength (0.26 MPa) when the content of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) is 1 wt%. This is due to the presence of hydrogen bonds and the electrical conductivity of the composite hydrogels can be improved by adding carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). When 0.06 g carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were added, the conductivity of the composite hydrogel reached 0.244 S m−1, showing good conductivity. In addition, the wearable flexible sensor based on the composite hydrogel had a measurement coefficient of 7.20 (400% strain), and the response time and recovery time of the hydrogel were both 150 ms, which is a short response time and can detect human movement. In addition, flexible sensors based on hydrogels can successfully detect finger and wrist movement changes and show good stability. With the high precision requirements and the trend of large-scale composite parts, the development of composite molds is imminent. The short carbon fiber (SCF) composite mold is mainly prepared by the technological process flow of composite sheet injection, the bonding of composite plates, and machining. However, the current process optimization method has not matured adequately, and there are still many shortcomings, for example, low precision and high cost. In this paper, the optimization method of SCF/polyetherimide (PEI) composite molds is proposed. Many experiments have been conducted, and the results show that the coefficient of thermal expansion of composite samples can be effectively reduced and the mechanical properties can be improved by optimizing the SCF weight ratio and carbon fiber length. The bonding strength of composite joints in a high-temperature environment can be improved by optimizing the bonding process parameters and modification by carbon nanotubes. Based on the above optimization method, the SCF/PEI composite mold is prepared, and the C-shaped beam composite part is fabricated by using this mold. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) microstructures have been synthesized using the sol-gel process. One-dimensional (1D) LiFePO4 microstructures were fabricated using tissue paper as a template under different temperatures to form pure phase microstructures. XRD analysis confirmed the single phase nature of orthorhombic olivine-structured LiFePO4 with Pnma space group. SEM analysis authenticated the formation of 1D LiFePO4 microstructures along with some clusters of particles. LiFePO4-multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) freestanding sheets were prepared using a tape-casting process. Further, the electrochemical properties of LiFePO4-MWCNT freestanding sheet were analyzed through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and galvanostatic charge-discharge analysis. We present in this paper the stability of SWCNT hybrid systems with Py molecules. vdW type interactions are therefore the main interaction mechanism between encapsulated molecules and nanotubes, and the simplest model to describe these interactions is the Lennard-Jones potential. We have therefore performed energy minimization calculations on hybrid SWCNTs in a very wide range of diameters and of all chirality using the Lennard-Jones potential. The structure of the carbon nanotube is obtained from the winding of graphene on itself to form a hollow cylinder described by the pair of integers (n, m) entirely determining its structural characteristics, while the optimization of the geometry of the Py molecule is obtained by SIESTA using the exchange–correlation functional LDA. After minimisation, an approach that combines density functional theory, molecular mechanics, bond polarizability model, and spectral moment's method has been used to compute Raman spectra. Two types of vibration modes of SWCNTs attract our attention. Initially, the modifications of the modes of Py after encapsulation will be analyzed. In the following discussion, we examine how the vibrational properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are affected by encapsulation, specifically in relation to the RBM and tangential modes. Our analysis of the Raman active modes supports the notion that the structural integrity of the SWCNTs remains intact and indicates the occurrence of a charge transfer between the Py molecules and SWCNTs. Purpose: Artificial fruit ripening is hazardous to mankind. In the recent past, artificial fruit ripening is increasing gradually due to its commercial benefits. To discriminate the type of fruit ripening involved at the vendors' side, there is a great demand for on-sight ethylene detection in a nondestructive manner. Therefore, this study aims to deal with a comparison of various laboratory and portable methods developed so far with high-performance metrics to identify the ethylene detection at fruit ripening site. Design/methodology/approach: This paper focuses on various types of technologies proposed up to date in ethylene detection, fabrication methods and signal conditioning circuits for ethylene detection in parts per million and parts per billion levels. The authors have already developed an infrared (IR) sensor to detect ethylene and also developed a lab-based setup belonging to the electrochemical sensing methods to detect ethylene for the fruit ripening application. Findings: The authors have developed an electrochemical sensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes whose performance is relatively higher than the sensors that were previously reported in terms of material, sensitivity and selectivity. For identifying the best sensing technology for optimization of ethylene detection for fruit ripening discrimination process, authors have developed an IR-based ethylene sensor and also semiconducting metal-oxide ethylene sensor which are all compared with literature-based comparable parameters. This review paper mainly focuses on the potential possibilities for developing portable ethylene sensing devices for investigation applications. Originality/value: The authors have elaborately discussed the new chemical and physical methods of ethylene detection and quantification from their own developed methods and also the key findings of the methods proposed by fellow researchers working on this field. While carbon in itself appears as simple an element as it could possibly get, the undeniable truth is that carbon materials represent a plethora of possibilities both from the perspective of their structure and their applications. While we may believe that carbon is "just another element", one should never forget that its special ability to coordinate through different hybridizations with apparent ease grants the element properties that no other element may even match. Taking this one step further into the materials realm opens up numerous avenues in terms of materials dimensionality, surface and bulk functionalization, or degree of structural order just to mention a few examples. If these properties are translated into the properties and applications field, the results are just as impressive, with new applications and variants appearing with growingly larger frequency. This has resulted in over a million scientific papers published in the last decade in which the term "carbon" was used either in the title, abstract or keywords. When the search is narrowed down to the field "title" alone, the results drop to just over 318.000 scientific papers. These are figures that no other element in the periodic table can equal, which is a clear indicative that the story of carbon materials is still under constant evolution and development. This review will present an overview of the works published in the Frontiers in Carbon-based materials section during its 10 years of life that reflect the advancements achieved during the last decade in the field of carbon materials. Carbon nanotubes have excellent electrical properties and can be used as a new generation of semiconductor materials. This paper presents a compact model for carbon nanotube field-effect transistors (CNTFETs). The model uses a semi-empirical approach to model the current–voltage properties of CNTFETs with gate lengths exceeding 100 nm. This study introduces an innovative approach by proposing physical parametric reference lengths ( L r e f ), which facilitate the integration of devices of varying sizes into a unified modeling framework. Furthermore, this paper develops models for the bipolar properties of carbon nanotube devices, employing two distinct sets of model parameters for enhanced accuracy. The model offers a comprehensive analysis of the different capacitances occurring between the electrodes within the device. The simulation of the model shows good agreement with the experimental measurements, confirming the model's validity. The model is implemented in the Verilog-A hardware description language, with the circuit being subsequently constructed and subjected to simulations via the HSPICE tool. The CNTFET-based inverter exhibits a gain of 7.022 and a delay time of 16.23 ps when operated at a voltage of 1.2 V. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Attaining a high energy density that aligns with practical application requirements is a crucial indicator in the advancement of supercapacitors. In this paper, a hybrid hierarchical electrode structure of N-doped carbon nanotube (NCNT) spheres encapsulated with NiCo-Se nanoparticles (NPs) and coated with nickel–cobalt layered double hydroxide (NiCo-LDH) multilayer nanosheets was successfully synthesized on a nickel foam (NF) substrate. The self-supporting strategy enables nickel–cobalt Prussian blue analogues (Ni–Co PBAs) to be directly attached to the NF surface, which results in fluffy NCNTs with a high length–diameter ratio and considerable yield and greatly enhances the conductivity of the electrode material. The synergistic interaction between the dual transition metal compounds inside and outside the NCNTs enables the hybrid electrode material to achieve an impressive specific capacity of 1899 F g−1 (211.0 mA h g−1) at 1 A g−1. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) exhibits an excellent energy density of 57.6 W h kg−1 at a power density of 798 W kg−1. This study not only provides an attractive strategy for obtaining CNTs with excellent properties from Ni–Co PBA and synthesizing hybrid electrodes with efficient synergistic effects, but also achieves a high energy density that aligns with the practical application demands of supercapacitors. This paper examines the features of formation and structure of bacterial cellulose (BC) composites with carbon nanotubes (CNTs). We aim to study the influence of initial components on structure and crystallinity of BC composites. We use optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy in order to investigate the surface morphology of BC composite films and X-ray diffraction analysis to determine the crystallographic structure of prepared samples. It is shown that CNT agglomerates in BC composite interact only with the surface layers of BC. CNTs and their bundles up to 50 nm in diameter are able to effectively penetrate into the BC network. Radio Frequency (RF) Nano Electro Mechanical Switches (NEMS) using Carbon Nanotube (CNTs) are preferred for electronic switching due to its high stiffness, switching speeds and ultra-low mass over several GHz range. CNT switch for microwave and millimeter wave applications utilizing a maximum of three CNTs with fixed starting positions of CNTs from zero level offset to obtain better isolation (S21) of the switch in DOWN State has already been studied. The motive of this paper is to obtain better RF performance in terms of return loss (S11) and isolation loss by modelling the switch in DOWN-state by varying the random positioning of CNTs, interelement spacing between CNTs, number of CNTs and frequency is predicted and reported using XG—Boost approach. Time-consuming optimization methods to predict the S-parameters in customized Electromagnetic (EM) simulators such as HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) have been resolved using the proposed XG-Boost regression approach. In this paper, the proposed XG-Boost approach minimizes the switch design time with random placement of CNTs by 99.81% compared to the conventional EM simulator which requires about 120 h for 400 simulations in an Intel-Core processor (2.50 GHz) with 8 GB RAM. To validate the results, they are compared to the HFSS model, and a high degree of agreement is found. In this paper, the synthesis of a new trifunctional sulfur and phosphorus epoxy architecture based on hydroxy diphenyl sulfone bis para-ester phosphoric triglycidyl ether (TGEHDSEP) is presented. The viscometric properties of the synthesized resin using an Ubbelohde type capillary viscometer were investigated and were thermally crosslinked using the hardener methylene dianiline (MDA). The viscosity values of the new trifunctional epoxy resin TGEHDSEP increased as the pre-polymer mass concentrations increased, as expected, and as the sample temperature increased, the viscosity of the system (TGEHDSEP/ethanol) decreased. A new nanocomposite composed of the prepared resin, TGEHDSEP, and carbon nanotubes (CNT) was developed using a variety of formulations to optimize the rheological behavior and thermal stability of the epoxy matrix. The effect of the CNT filler in admixture with the TGEHDSEP/MDA system in this series of formulations on the nanocomposites rheological properties was studied. The rheological and thermal properties of the formulated materials were assessed using the RHM01-RD Haaks rheometer and the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) in the dynamic regime, respectively. The results showed that the G′ (storage modulus) and G′′ (loss modulus) of various nanocomposites increase as the filler CNT content increases. Over the entire frequency range studied, the storage modulus G′ is much higher than the loss modulus G′′ for methylene–dianiline crosslinked nanocomposites formulated with varying percentages of CNT. The storage modulus G′ of all prepared nanocomposites increases as the percentage of CNTs increases. These results also show that the addition of carbon nanotubes to the epoxy matrix improves its thermal properties significantly. The morphology of the prepared nanocomposites, analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), varies significantly with the percentage of carbon nanotube filler incorporated into the studied matrix, and the carbon nanotube filler is uniformly distributed in this epoxy resin. Finally, we utilized the Materials Studio software package to investigate the mechanical and thermal conductivity properties of TGEHDSP and single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT). The material exhibited the following mechanical properties: Young's modulus: 7.1508 GPa, shear modulus: 2.6169 GPa, bulk modulus: 8.9116 GPa, Poisson's ratio: 0.3663. Additionally, its compressibility is approximately 105.9918 TPa. On the other hand, the epoxy resin, TGEHDSP, performs relatively well as a heat conductor among epoxy-based materials, while SWCNT's high thermal conductivity highlights its exceptional heat transfer capabilities, characteristic of nanoscale structures. Achieving energy-efficient and high-performance field-effect transistors (FETs) is one of the most important goals for future electronic devices. This paper reports semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotube FETs (s-SWNT-FETs) with an optimized high- k relaxor ferroelectric insulator P(VDF-TrFE-CFE) thickness for low-voltage operation. The s-SWNT-FETs with an optimized thickness (∼800 nm) of the high- k insulator exhibited the highest average mobility of 14.4 cm2 V−1s−1 at the drain voltage (I D) of 1 V, with a high current on/off ratio (I on/off >105). The optimized device performance resulted from the suppressed gate leakage current (I G) and a sufficiently large capacitance (>50 nF cm−2) of the insulating layer. Despite the extremely high capacitance (>100 nF cm−2) of the insulating layer, an insufficient thickness (<450 nm) induces a high I G, leading to reduced I D and mobility of s-SWNT-FETs. Conversely, an overly thick insulator (>1200 nm) cannot introduce sufficient capacitance, resulting in limited device performance. The large capacitance and sufficient breakdown voltage of the insulating layer with an appropriate thickness significantly improved p-type performance. However, a reduced n-type performance was observed owing to the increased electron trap density caused by fluorine proportional to the insulator thickness. Hence, precise control of the insulator thickness is crucial for achieving low-voltage operation with enhanced s-SWNT-FET performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The prerequisites of future space missions need lightweight materials which must be mechanically strong and high thermal and electrically conductive. As the traditional silicon-based CMOS technology advances into the nanoscale stage, approaching its physical limits, the Carbon Nanotube Field-effect Transistor (CNTFET) is considered to be the most significant transistor technology beyond Moore's era. The CNTFET has a quasi-one-dimensional structure so that the carrier can realize ballistic transport and has very high mobility. At the same time, a single CNTFET can integrate hundreds of nanowires as the conductive channels, enabling significant current transport capabilities even in low supply voltage, thereby providing a foundational basis for achieving nanoscale ultra-large-scale analog/logic circuits. This paper summarizes the development status of the CNTFET compact model and digital/analog/RF integrated circuits. The challenges faced by SPICE modeling and circuit design are analyzed. Meanwhile, solutions to these challenges and development trends of carbon-based transistors are discussed. Finally, the future application prospects of carbon-based integrated circuits are presented. This paper presents a new biquad filter based on carbon nanotube field-effect transistor (CNFET) technology. Implementing various filter modes (high-pass, low-pass, band-pass, and band-stop) in four operating modes (voltage, current, transconductance, and transresistance) with a unified circuit structure is the fundamental feature of the proposed filter. The proposed universal filter is intended for commercial radio communications in the FM band to reduce power consumption and chip area occupation. The proposed circuit can adjust a wide frequency range and thus cover multiple radio channels with minimum noise and distortion on the signal. The proposed filter in 20 nm technology has been simulated using advanced design system (ADS) software to investigate the effects of high-frequency effects. The minimum power consumption is 360 nW, with a supply voltage of 0.9 V, with the ability to independently adjust the center frequency (22 MHz < f0 < 120 MHz) and filter quality factor (0.6 < Q < 23) and the use of grounded capacitors to absorb parasitic effects are among the advantages of the proposed circuit. The proposed Gm-C circuit has the highest figure of merit (FOM) value of 318.5. The nanocomposite of a resorcinol–formaldehyde xerogel and carbon nanotubes after carbonation was obtained in the form of a composite carbon nanopaper (CCNP) with the thickness of 100–300 microns, the density from 0.1 to 0.5 g/cm3 and the electronic conductivity of more than 10 S/cm. The microporous structure of the nanopaper is formed by carbonized resorcinol–formaldehyde xerogel, and the mesoporous structure is formed by the nanotube framework. Previously, the characteristics of nanopaper electrodes in an aqueous electrolyte of 1M H2SO4 were measured, where the maximum capacitance was 155 F/g (56 F/cm3). To work with an organic electrolyte, a method for activating CCNP with potassium hydroxide has been developed. In this paper the characteristics of electrodes made of activated nanopaper (a-CCNP) in an organic electrolyte 1 M 1,1-Dimethylpyrrolidinium tetrafluoroborate (DMPBF4)/acetonitrile solution were measured. The capacitance in this electrolyte has been reached 70 F/g (27 F/cm3). According to measurements on a laboratory assembly of a symmetrical supercapacitor (SC) with electrodes made of CCNP, the characteristics are calculated when the SC operates in the mode of short pulse switching with an efficiency of EF = 95%. In an aqueous electrolyte of 1 M H2SO4 (U0 = 1.0 V), the volumetric energy density was E0.95,SC = 0.9 W h/L and the volumetric power density was P0.95,SC = 2.1 kW/L. In 1 M DMPBF4/acetonitrile electrolyte (U0 = 2.7 V), the design characteristics of the capacitor were: volumetric energy density E0.95,SC = 3.8 W h/L and volumetric power density P0.95,SC = 2.0 kW/L. This paper reports on the coating of heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes on Ti substrates by anodizing at high voltages to design surfaces for biomedical implants. As the anodized voltage from 50 V to 350 V was applied, the microstructure of the coating shifted from regular TiO2 nanotubes to heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes. In addition, the dimension of the heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes was a function of voltage. The electrochemical characteristics of TiO2 nanotubes and heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes were evaluated in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution. The creation of heterostructured TiO2 nanopores/nanotubes on Ti substrates resulted in a significant increase in BHK cell attachment compared to that of the Ti substrates and the TiO2 nanotubes. The advantages of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in fortifying the glass fiber reinforced polymeric (GFRP) composites are discussed in this paper. Bolted steel straps are utilized at the edges of composite plate to establish clamped conditions in the test setup. To minimize uncertainties caused by bolt attachments, a genetic algorithm-based model updating approach has been implemented by introducing artificial linear springs at the margins to achieve a better balance between theory and reality. The accuracy of the plate's results (natural frequencies and mode shapes) is verified, and the mechanical properties of randomly dispersed CNTs are incorporated in the formulations of folded plates. Remarkably, the motion equations are brought forward by the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT). Thereafter, two-directional generalized differential quadrature (2D-GDQ) technique is employed to determine natural frequencies from available motion, continuity, and boundary equations. The results of the folded plate are validated first by an experimental modal testing and finally some effective parameters such as folding angle, CNT weight ratio, boundary condition and flange-shape length are examined. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have high strength and stable chemical properties, offering the potential to enhance the mechanical performance of cementitious grouting materials and finding wide applications in the field. This paper reviews the recent research on the application of CNTs in cementitious grouting materials. It introduces the basic structure of CNTs and commonly used dispersion methods in cementitious grouting materials, analyzing and summarizing hydration and microstructure, mechanical properties, and early shrinkage performance of carbon nanotubes-cementitious grouting materials, highlighting current research challenges. Flexible conductive films are a key component of strain sensors, and their performance directly affects the overall quality of the sensor. However, existing flexible conductive films struggle to maintain high conductivity while simultaneously ensuring excellent flexibility, hydrophobicity, and corrosion resistance, thereby limiting their use in harsh environments. In this paper, a novel method is proposed to fabricate flexible conductive films via centrifugal spinning to generate thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) nanofiber substrates by employing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) as conductive fillers. These fillers are anchored to the nanofibers through ultrasonic dispersion and impregnation techniques and subsequently modified with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). This study focuses on the effect of different ratios of CNTs to CNFs on the film properties. Research demonstrated that at a 1:1 ratio of CNTs to CNFs, with TPU at a 20% concentration and PDMS solution at 2 wt%, the conductive films crafted from these blended fillers exhibited outstanding performance, characterized by electrical conductivity (31.4 S/m), elongation at break (217.5%), and tensile cycling stability (800 cycles at 20% strain). Furthermore, the nanofiber-based conductive films were tested by attaching them to various human body parts. The tests demonstrated that these films effectively respond to motion changes at the wrist, elbow joints, and chest cavity, underscoring their potential as core components in strain sensors.
