In light of the prevalent issues concerning the mechanical grading of fresh tea leaves, characterized by high damage rates and poor accuracy, as well as the limited grading precision through the integration of machine vision and machine learning (ML) algorithms, this study presents an innovative approach for classifying the quality grade of fresh tea leaves. This approach leverages an integration of image recognition and deep learning (DL) algorithm to accurately classify tea leaves' grades by identifying distinct bud and leaf combinations. The method begins by acquiring separate images of orderly scattered and randomly stacked fresh tea leaves. These images undergo data augmentation techniques, such as rotation, flipping, and contrast adjustment, to form the scattered and stacked tea leaves datasets. Subsequently, the YOLOv8x model was enhanced by Space pyramid pooling improvements (SPPCSPC) and the concentration-based attention module (CBAM). The established YOLOv8x-SPPCSPC-CBAM model is evaluated by comparing it with popular DL models, including Faster R-CNN, YOLOv5x, and YOLOv8x. The experimental findings reveal that the YOLOv8x-SPPCSPC-CBAM model delivers the most impressive results. For the scattered tea leaves, the mean average precision, precision, recall, and number of images processed per second rates of 98.2%, 95.8%, 96.7%, and 2.77, respectively, while for stacked tea leaves, they are 99.1%, 99.1%, 97.7% and 2.35, respectively. Changes in land use and land cover (LULC) have significant implications for biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and deforestation. Modeling LULC changes is crucial to understanding anthropogenic impacts on environmental conservation and ecosystem services. Although previous studies have focused on predicting future changes, there is a growing need to determine past scenarios using new assessment tools. This study proposes a methodology for LULC past scenario generation based on transition analysis. Aiming to hindcast LULC scenario in 1970 based on the transition analysis of the past 35 years (from 1985 to 2020), two machine learning algorithms, multilayer perceptron (MLP) and similarity weighted (SimWeight), were employed to determine the driver variables most related to conversions in LULC and to simulate the past. The study focused on the Aristida spp. grasslands in the Uruguayan savannas, where native grasslands have been extensively converted to agricultural areas. Land use and land cover data from the MapBiomas project were integrated with spatial variables such as altimetry, slope, pedology, and linear distances from rivers, roads, urban areas, agriculture, forest, forestry, and native grasslands. The accuracy of the predicted maps was assessed through stratified random sampling of reference images from the Multispectral Scanner (MSS) sensor. The results demonstrate a reduction of approximately 659 934 ha of native grasslands in the study area between 1985 and 2020, directly proportional to the increase in cultivable areas. The MLP algorithm exhibited moderate performance, with notable errors in classifying agriculture and grassland areas. In contrast, the SimWeight algorithm displayed better accuracy, particularly in distinguishing grassland and agriculture classes. The modeled map using SimWeight accurately represented the transitions between grassland and agriculture with a high level of agreement. By modeling the 1970s scenario using the SimWeight model, it was estimated that the Aristida spp. grasslands experienced a substantial reduction in grassland coverage, ranging from 9982.31 to 10 022.32 km 2 between 1970 and 2020. This represents a range of 60.8%-61.07% of the total grassland area in 1970. These findings provide valuable insights into the driving factors behind land use change in the Aristida spp. grasslands and offer useful information for land management, conservation, and sustainable development in the region. Background: The most recent advances in Computed Tomography (CT) image reconstruction technology are Deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) algorithms. Due to drawbacks in Iterative reconstruction (IR) techniques such as negative image texture and nonlinear spatial resolutions, DLIRs are gradually replacing them. However, the potential use of DLIR in Head and Chest CT has to be examined further. Hence, the purpose of the study is to review the influence of DLIR on Radiation dose (RD), Image noise (IN), and outcomes of the studies compared with IR and FBP in Head and Chest CT examinations., Methods: We performed a detailed search in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase to find the articles reported using DLIR for Head and Chest CT examinations between 2017 to 2023. Data were retrieved from the short-listed studies using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines., Results: Out of 196 articles searched, 15 articles were included. A total of 1292 sample size was included. 14 articles were rated as high and 1 article as moderate quality. All studies compared DLIR to IR techniques. 5 studies compared DLIR with IR and FBP. The review showed that DLIR improved IQ, and reduced RD and IN for CT Head and Chest examinations., Conclusions: DLIR algorithm have demonstrated a noted enhancement in IQ with reduced IN for CT Head and Chest examinations at lower dose compared with IR and FBP. Background: Radiation dose reduction has been the focus of many research activities in x-ray CT. Various approaches were taken to minimize the dose to patients, ranging from the optimization of clinical protocols, refinement of the scanner hardware design, and development of advanced reconstruction algorithms. Although significant progress has been made, more advancements in this area are needed to minimize the radiation risks to patients., Purpose: Reconstruction algorithm-based dose reduction approaches focus mainly on the suppression of noise in the reconstructed images while preserving detailed anatomical structures. Such an approach effectively produces synthesized high-dose images (SHD) from the data acquired with low-dose scans. A representative example is the model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR). Despite its widespread deployment, its full adoption in a clinical environment is often limited by an undesirable image texture. Recent studies have shown that deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) can overcome this shortcoming. However, the limited availability of high-quality clinical images for training and validation is often the bottleneck for its development. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to generate SHD with existing low-dose clinical datasets that overcomes both the noise texture issue and the data availability issue., Methods: Our approach is based on the observation that noise in the image can be effectively reduced by performing image processing orthogonal to the imaging plane. This process essentially creates an equivalent thick-slice image (TSI), and the characteristics of TSI depend on the nature of the image processing. An advantage of this approach is its potential to reduce impact on the noise texture. The resulting image, however, is likely corrupted by the anatomical structural degradation due to partial volume effects. Careful examination has shown that the differential signal between the original and the processed image contains sufficient information to identify regions where anatomical structures are modified. The differential signal, unfortunately, contains significant noise and has to be removed. The noise removal can be accomplished by performing iterative noise reduction to preserve structural information. The processed differential signal is subsequently subtracted from TSI to arrive at SHD., Results: The algorithm was evaluated extensively with phantom and clinical datasets. For better visual inspection, difference images between the original and SHD were generated and carefully examined. Negligible residual structure could be observed. In addition to the qualitative inspection, quantitative analyses were performed on clinical images in terms of the CT number consistency and the noise reduction characteristics. Results indicate that no CT number bias is introduced by the proposed algorithm. In addition, noise reduction capability is consistent across different patient anatomical regions. Further, simulated water phantom scans were utilized in the generation of the noise power spectrum (NPS) to demonstrate the preservation of the noise-texture., Conclusions: We present a method to generate SHD datasets from regularly acquired low-dose CT scans. Images produced with the proposed approach exhibit excellent noise-reduction with the desired noise-texture. Non-linear properties of iterative reconstruction (IR) algorithms can alter image texture. We evaluated the effect of a model-based IR algorithm (advanced modelled iterative reconstruction; ADMIRE) and dose on computed tomography thorax image quality. Dual-source scanner data were acquired at 20, 45 and 65 reference mAs in 20 patients. Images reconstructed with filtered back projection (FBP) and ADMIRE Strengths 3–5 were assessed independently by six radiologists and analysed using an ordinal logistic regression model. For all image criteria studied, the effects of tube load 20 mAs and all ADMIRE strengths were significant (p  < 0.001) when compared to reference categories 65 mAs and FBP. Increase in tube load from 45 to 65 mAs showed image quality improvement in three of six criteria. Replacing FBP with ADMIRE significantly improves perceived image quality for all criteria studied, potentially permitting a dose reduction of almost 70% without loss in image quality. In the petroleum and coal industries, digital image technology and acoustic emission technology are employed to study rock properties, but both exhibit flaws during data processing. Digital image technology is vulnerable to interference from fractures and scaling, leading to potential loss of image data; while acoustic emission technology is not hindered by these issues, noise from rock destruction can interfere with the electrical signals, causing errors. The monitoring errors of these techniques can undermine the effectiveness of rock damage analysis. To address this issue, this paper focuses on the restoration of image data acquired through digital image technology, leveraging deep learning techniques, and using soft and hard rocks made of similar materials as research subjects, an improved Incremental Transformer image algorithm is employed to repair distorted or missing strain nephograms during uniaxial compression experiments. The concrete implementation entails using a comprehensive training set of strain nephograms derived from digital image technology, fabricating masks for absent image segments, and predicting strain nephograms with full strain detail. Additionally, we adopt deep separable convolutional networks to optimize the algorithm's operational efficiency. Based on this, the analysis of rock damage is conducted using the repaired strain nephograms, achieving a closer correlation with the actual physical processes of rock damage compared to conventional digital image technology and acoustic emission techniques. The improved incremental Transformer algorithm presented in this paper will contribute to enhancing the efficiency of digital image technology in the realm of rock damage, saving time and money, and offering an innovative approach to traditional rock damage analysis. Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore whether machine learning can be used to establish an effective model for the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) by using texture features extracted from cerebellar gray matter and white matter, so as to identify subtle changes that cannot be observed by the naked eye. Method: This study involved a data collection period from June 2010 to March 2023, including 374 subjects from two cohorts. The Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) served as the training set, with control group and PD patients (HC: 102 and PD: 102) from 24 global sites. Our institution's data was utilized as the test set (HC: 91 and PD: 79). Machine learning was employed to establish multiple models for PD diagnosis based on texture features of the cerebellum's gray and white matter. Results underwent evaluation through 5-fold cross-validation analysis, calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for each model. The performance of each model was compared using the Delong test, and the interpretability of the optimized model was further augmented by employing Shapley additive explanations (SHAP). Results: The AUCs for all pipelines in the validation dataset were compared using FeAture Explorer (FAE) software. Among the models established by Kruskal-Wallis (KW) and logistic regression via Lasso (LRLasso), the AUC was highest using the “one-standard error” rule. 'WM_original_glrlm_GrayLevelNonUniformity' was considered the most stable and predictive feature. Conclusion: The texture features of cerebellar gray matter and white matter combined with machine learning may have potential value in the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, in which the heterogeneity of white matter may be a more valuable imaging marker. Coal-rock interface identification technology was pivotal in automatically adjusting the shearer's cutting drum during coal mining. However, it also served as a technical bottleneck hindering the advancement of intelligent coal mining. This study aimed to address the poor accuracy of current coal-rock identification technology on comprehensive working faces, coupled with the limited availability of coal-rock datasets. The loss function of the SegFormer model was enhanced, the model's hyperparameters and learning rate were adjusted, and an automatic recognition method was proposed for coal-rock interfaces based on FL-SegFormer. Additionally, an experimental platform was constructed to simulate the dusty environment during coal-rock cutting by the shearer, enabling the collection of coal-rock test image datasets. The morphology-based algorithms were employed to expand the coal-rock image datasets through image rotation, color dithering, and Gaussian noise injection so as to augment the diversity and applicability of the datasets. As a result, a coal-rock image dataset comprising 8424 samples was generated. The findings demonstrated that the FL-SegFormer model achieved a Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) and mean pixel accuracy (MPA) of 97.72% and 98.83%, respectively. The FL-SegFormer model outperformed other models in terms of recognition accuracy, as evidenced by an MIoU exceeding 95.70% of the original image. Furthermore, the FL-SegFormer model using original coal-rock images was validated from No. 15205 working face of the Yulin test mine in northern Shaanxi. The calculated average error was only 1.77%, and the model operated at a rate of 46.96 frames per second, meeting the practical application and deployment requirements in underground settings. Because edge-aware filtering has been widely used for image-based automation technologies, developing a practical, fast algorithm for its use is important. This letter proposes a simple and fast computational method for edge-aware image filtering based on bilateral half-box regions. Our filter consists of a weighted average of only eight color sums within each half-box region adjacent to a given pixel, where the tonal weights are similar to those obtained with bilateral filtering. The eight sums are efficiently obtained by a single fast box filter using the relative coordinate relationship between the pixel and each half-box center. This paper presents an improved swarming algorithm that enhances low-illumination images. The algorithm combines a hybrid Harris Eagle algorithm with double gamma (IHHO-BIGA) and incomplete beta (IHHO-NBeta) functions. This paper integrates the concept of symmetry into the improvement steps of the image adaptive enhancement algorithm. The enhanced algorithm integrates chaotic mapping for population initialization, a nonlinear formula for prey energy calculation, spiral motion from the black widow algorithm for global search enhancement, a nonlinear inertia weight factor inspired by particle swarm optimization, and a modified Levy flight strategy to prevent premature convergence to local optima. This paper compares the algorithm's performance with other swarm intelligence algorithms using commonly used test functions. The algorithm's performance is compared against several emerging swarm intelligence algorithms using commonly used test functions, with results demonstrating its superior performance. The improved Harris Eagle algorithm is then applied for image adaptive enhancement, and its effectiveness is evaluated on five low-illumination images from the LOL dataset. The proposed method is compared to three common image enhancement techniques and the IHHO-BIGA and IHHO-NBeta methods. The experimental results reveal that the proposed approach achieves optimal visual perception and enhanced image evaluation metrics, outperforming the existing techniques. Notably, the standard deviation data of the first image show that the IHHO-NBeta method enhances the image by 8.26%, 120.91%, 126.85%, and 164.02% compared with IHHO-BIGA, the single-scale Retinex enhancement method, the homomorphic filtering method, and the limited contrast adaptive histogram equalization method, respectively. The riparian zone is an area where land and water are intertwined, and vegetation is rich and complexly distributed. The zone can be directly involved in ecological regulation. In order to protect the ecological environment of the riparian zone, it is necessary to monitor the distribution of vegetation. However, there are many disturbing factors in extracting riparian vegetation, the most serious of which are water bodies with similar colours to the vegetation. To overcome the influence of water bodies on vegetation extraction from UAV imagery of riparian areas, this paper proposes a novel approach that combines the marked watershed algorithm with vegetation index recognition. First, the image is pre-segmented using edge detection, and the output is further refined with the marked watershed algorithm. Background areas are classified as potential regions for vegetation distribution. Subsequently, the final vegetation distribution is extracted from these potential vegetation areas using the vegetation index. The segmentation threshold for the vegetation index is automatically determined using the OTSU algorithm. The experimental results indicate that our method, when applied to UAV aerial imagery of the riparian zone, achieves an overall accuracy of over 94%, a user accuracy of over 97%, and a producer accuracy of over 93%. Simple Summary: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) accounts for at least 80% of renal tumours worldwide. The grading of clear cell carcinoma is crucial for its management; therefore, it is important to distinguish the ccRCC grade pre-operatively. The aim of this research is to differentiate high- from low-grade ccRCC non-invasively using machine learning (ML) and radiomics features extracted from pre-operative computed tomography (CT) scans, taking into consideration the tumour sub-region that offers the greatest accuracy when grading. Furthermore, radiomics and machine learning were compared with biopsy-determined grading in a sub-group with resection histopathology as a reference standard. Background: Renal cancers are among the top ten causes of cancer-specific mortality, of which the ccRCC subtype is responsible for most cases. The grading of ccRCC is important in determining tumour aggressiveness and clinical management. Objectives: The objectives of this research were to predict the WHO/ISUP grade of ccRCC pre-operatively and characterise the heterogeneity of tumour sub-regions using radiomics and ML models, including comparison with pre-operative biopsy-determined grading in a sub-group. Methods: Data were obtained from multiple institutions across two countries, including 391 patients with pathologically proven ccRCC. For analysis, the data were separated into four cohorts. Cohorts 1 and 2 included data from the respective institutions from the two countries, cohort 3 was the combined data from both cohort 1 and 2, and cohort 4 was a subset of cohort 1, for which both the biopsy and subsequent histology from resection (partial or total nephrectomy) were available. 3D image segmentation was carried out to derive a voxel of interest (VOI) mask. Radiomics features were then extracted from the contrast-enhanced images, and the data were normalised. The Pearson correlation coefficient and the XGBoost model were used to reduce the dimensionality of the features. Thereafter, 11 ML algorithms were implemented for the purpose of predicting the ccRCC grade and characterising the heterogeneity of sub-regions in the tumours. Results: For cohort 1, the 50% tumour core and 25% tumour periphery exhibited the best performance, with an average AUC of 77.9% and 78.6%, respectively. The 50% tumour core presented the highest performance in cohorts 2 and 3, with average AUC values of 87.6% and 76.9%, respectively. With the 25% periphery, cohort 4 showed AUC values of 95.0% and 80.0% for grade prediction when using internal and external validation, respectively, while biopsy histology had an AUC of 31.0% for the classification with the final grade of resection histology as a reference standard. The CatBoost classifier was the best for each of the four cohorts with an average AUC of 80.0%, 86.5%, 77.0% and 90.3% for cohorts 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Conclusions: Radiomics signatures combined with ML have the potential to predict the WHO/ISUP grade of ccRCC with superior performance, when compared to pre-operative biopsy. Moreover, tumour sub-regions contain useful information that should be analysed independently when determining the tumour grade. With the advancement of network technology, multimedia videos have emerged as a crucial channel for individuals to access external information, owing to their realistic and intuitive effects. In the presence of high frame rate and high dynamic range videos, the coding efficiency of high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) falls short of meeting the storage and transmission demands of the video content. Therefore, versatile video coding (VVC) introduces a nested quadtree plus multi-type tree (QTMT) segmentation structure based on the HEVC standard, while also expanding the intra-prediction modes from 35 to 67. While the new technology introduced by VVC has enhanced compression performance, it concurrently introduces a higher level of computational complexity. To enhance coding efficiency and diminish computational complexity, this paper explores two key aspects: coding unit (CU) partition decision-making and intra-frame mode selection. Firstly, to address the flexible partitioning structure of QTMT, we propose a decision-tree-based series partitioning decision algorithm for partitioning decisions. Through concatenating the quadtree (QT) partition division decision with the multi-type tree (MT) division decision, a strategy is implemented to determine whether to skip the MT division decision based on texture characteristics. If the MT partition decision is used, four decision tree classifiers are used to judge different partition types. Secondly, for intra-frame mode selection, this paper proposes an ensemble-learning-based algorithm for mode prediction termination. Through the reordering of complete candidate modes and the assessment of prediction accuracy, the termination of redundant candidate modes is accomplished. Experimental results show that compared with the VVC test model (VTM), the algorithm proposed in this paper achieves an average time saving of 54.74%, while the BDBR only increases by 1.61%. Deep learning shows great potential in low-light image enhancement, which can improve image brightness and contrast while keeping image natural. However, due to the lack of prior knowledge extracted manually or excessive amplification of noise, these methods result in poor quality of enhanced images. To solve these challenging problems, this paper proposes a dual-branch grayscale image enhancement network based on dense residual and attention mechanism. Low-light grayscale image is used as input. Firstly, features that fuse deep and shallow information are extracted through dense residual convolution branch network; secondly, texture features are extracted through U-Net branch network combined with attention mechanism; then the extracted features are integrated, and finally luminance is adjusted by a brightness adjustment module to output an enhanced grayscale image. In addition, a joint loss function is designed to measure the network training loss from brightness, texture, contrast and noise. A large number of quantitative and qualitative experiments on LOL and VE-LOL datasets show that the proposed method improves Peak Signal to Noise Ratio Index and Structural Similarity Index by 19.65 - 59.76% and 5.61 - 85.53%, respectively, compared with EnlightenGAN, KinD++, RUAS, LLFlow, etc. The proposed method is superior to the most famous methods, thanks to the deep feature extraction and fusion capability of dense residual convolutional network and texture extraction capability of U-Net network combined with attention mechanism. How to improve the high resolution and remove the noise of composite infrared thermal wave detection image have become important research topics in machine vision. Therefore, this paper proposes a composite image enhancement algorithm based on edge adaptive total variation of direction. Using the improved adaptive directional total variation model to construct the guidance image of the guidance filter can provide better structural information for the guidance filter and conduct the guidance filter. This process is iterated to eliminate noise and ladder effect. Experimental results show that this algorithm is superior to other advanced methods in objective evaluation index and subjective vision. The algorithm proposed in this paper can not only effectively eliminate noise and ladder effect, but also highlight image details and structure information, which proves the effectiveness of this algorithm. Discover the cutting-edge algorithm for high-resolution improvement and noise elimination in infrared thermal wave detection images. Deep learning, which is a dominating technique in artificial intelligence, has completely changed image understanding over the past decade. As a consequence, the sea ice extraction (SIE) problem has reached a new era. We present a comprehensive review of four important aspects of SIE, including algorithms, datasets, applications and future trends. Our review focuses on research published from 2016 to the present, with a specific focus on deep-learning-based approaches in the last five years. We divided all related algorithms into three categories, including the conventional image classification approach, the machine learning-based approach and deep-learning-based methods. We reviewed the accessible ice datasets including SAR-based datasets, the optical-based datasets and others. The applications are presented in four aspects including climate research, navigation, geographic information systems (GIS) production and others. To quickly determine the blasting block degree and conduct an accurate and objective analysis of the tunnel blasting effect, this study has enhanced and improved upon the traditional genetic algorithm and Otsu algorithm. It has combined it with the marking watershed method and utilized ground digital acquisition to capture images of blasting debris. These images are then used in our custom-developed blasting analysis software to calculate the blasting block degree distribution and provide a quantitative analysis of blasting block degree. The research results show that the optimized image segmentation algorithm effectively improves the traditional threshold segmentation method on the poor effect of segmentation of the edge of the adherent block or the direct application of the watershed segmentation of the over-segmentation problem, to improve the segmentation accuracy based on the new segmentation technology is close to the traditional technology in terms of time. Through the self-developed software, the construction personnel in the project site to quickly obtain the blasting block degree histogram, block degree cumulative curve and other important indicators of the evaluation of the effect of blasting block degree, to provide data support for on-site construction, to assist in the modification of the blasting program, and to improve the efficiency of construction. In order to realize the unsupervised segmentation of subtle defect images on the surface of small magnetic rings and improve the segmentation accuracy and computational efficiency, here, an adaptive threshold segmentation method is proposed based on the improved multi-scale and multi-directional 2D-Gabor filter bank. Firstly, the improved multi-scale and multi-directional 2D-Gabor filter bank was used to filter and reduce the noise on the defect image, suppress the noise pollution inside the target area and the background area, and enhance the difference between the magnetic ring defect and the background. Secondly, this study analyzed the grayscale statistical characteristics of the processed image; the segmentation threshold was constructed according to the gray statistical law of the image; and the adaptive segmentation of subtle defect images on the surface of small magnetic rings was realized. Finally, a classifier based on a BP neural network is designed to classify the scar images and crack images determined by different threshold segmentation methods. The classification accuracies of the iterative method, the OTSU method, the maximum entropy method, and the adaptive threshold segmentation method are, respectively, 85%, 87.5%, 95%, and 97.5%. The adaptive threshold segmentation method proposed in this paper has the highest classification accuracy. Through verification and comparison, the proposed algorithm can segment defects quickly and accurately and suppress noise interference effectively. It is better than other traditional image threshold segmentation methods, validated by both segmentation accuracy and computational efficiency. The two-dimensional sample entropy marks a significant advance in evaluating the regularity and predictability of images in the information domain. Unlike the direct computation of sample entropy, which incurs a time complexity of O (N 2) for the series with N length, the Monte Carlo-based algorithm for computing one-dimensional sample entropy (MCSampEn) markedly reduces computational costs by minimizing the dependence on N. This paper extends MCSampEn to two dimensions, referred to as MCSampEn2D. This new approach substantially accelerates the estimation of two-dimensional sample entropy, outperforming the direct method by more than a thousand fold. Despite these advancements, MCSampEn2D encounters challenges with significant errors and slow convergence rates. To counter these issues, we have incorporated an upper confidence bound (UCB) strategy in MCSampEn2D. This strategy involves assigning varied upper confidence bounds in each Monte Carlo experiment iteration to enhance the algorithm's speed and accuracy. Our evaluation of this enhanced approach, dubbed UCBMCSampEn2D, involved the use of medical and natural image data sets. The experiments demonstrate that UCBMCSampEn2D achieves a 40 % reduction in computational time compared to MCSampEn2D. Furthermore, the errors with UCBMCSampEn2D are only 30 % of those observed in MCSampEn2D, highlighting its improved accuracy and efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Single-image super-resolution (SISR) techniques have found wide applications in semiconductor defect inspection. Enhancing image resolution to improve inspection sensitivity and accuracy holds great significance. A novel SISR algorithm, called cross-convolutional residual network (CCRN), is proposed in this study. CCRN comprises a cross-convolutional module (CCM), which incorporates a cross-sharing mechanism that facilitates the fusion of features from different stages, enabling the extraction of more information from the image. Moreover, a global residual aggregation structure (GRA) is introduced. GRA captures and transfers different levels of residual features acquired from learning each CCM to the reconstruction layer. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SR algorithm outperforms existing state-of-the-art SR algorithms in terms of both visual and quantitative metrics when applied to optical, SEM, and TEM images of microfluidic chips, CMOS image sensors, and quantum dots, respectively. Additionally, CCRN significantly improves the accuracy of defect classification and inspection of unpatterned wafers, as evaluated using the WM-811K dataset. Notably, an increase in local defection testing accuracy from 79.00% to 89.00% and an improvement in classification accuracy from 93.69% to 96.06% are achieved. Multispectral remote sensing (RS) data and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data can provide horizontal and vertical information about forest AGB under different stand conditions. With the abundance of RS features extracted from multispectral and SAR datasets, a key point for accurate forest AGB estimation is to use suitable feature optimization inversion algorithms. In this study, feature optimization inversion algorithms including multiple linear stepwise regression (MLSR), K-nearest neighbor with fast iterative feature selection (KNN-FIFS), and random forest (RF) were explored, with a total of 93 RS features working as inversion model input for forest AGB inversion. The results showed that KNN-FIFS with the combination of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 performed best at both test sites (R2 = 0.568 and RMSE = 15.05 t/hm2 for Puer and R2 = 0.511 and RMSE = 32.29 t/hm2 for Genhe). Among the three feature optimization inversion algorithms, RF performed worst for forest AGB estimation with R2 = 0.348 and RMSE = 18.06 t/hm2 for Puer and R2 = 0.345 and RMSE = 35.98 t/hm2 for Genhe using the feature combination of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2. The results indicated that a combination of features extracted from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 can improve the inversion accuracy of forest AGB, and the KNN-FIFS algorithm has robustness and transferability in forest AGB inversions.
