We determined the presumed gender – based on pronouns – and geographic affiliation of the editorial boards for the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management from 2000 through 2022. Over that period, one of five editors was a woman, and all editors had a United States affiliation. Thirty-two percent of the unique associate editors and 28% of the members of the editorial board were women. All associate editors and 94% of the members of the editorial board had a United States affiliation. There was no trend in the percentage of women as editors or associate editors during the review period, but the percentage of women on the board of editors gradually increased over time. We discuss the potential benefits of increasing the number of people of various genders and individuals with non-United States affiliations on the editorial staff, as well as the value of increasing its diversity in other ways. Important in the dissemination of knowledge are the networks of editors and their editorial board members. These are crucial gatekeepers in maintaining contacts with their professional fields as well as identifying others to evaluate manuscripts submitted for possible publication. We examine the countries of editorial board members of twenty-nine major Anglophone journals and the regional sources of manuscripts and reviewers. The data reveal some journals have large numbers of board members and many submissions and others have much smaller numbers of both. North America (United States and Canada), Western Europe, and China were the major sources of English-language manuscripts submitted from 2017 to 2021. The Bibliographical Society of America is seeking nominations for new council members who will be elected at their Annual Meeting in January 2025. They are particularly interested in nominees who represent the racial and ethnic diversity of bibliographical communities in the United States. Council members are responsible for setting strategic priorities, approving the annual budget, and fundraising. They are also invited to join committees and working groups based on their interests and experience. Incentives for efforts expended in peer review remain controversial, as one of us [https://www.morressier.com/o/event/655b8f316515150019d5f90b/sessions/6569ca7c8d0e640013427ec3?eventId=655b8f316515150019d5f90b] reported at the recent APE Meeting in Berlin 2024. Publishers and researchers have different views on if, and how, peer review should and could be rewarded. We surveyed researchers regularly performing peer review for journals as well as editors and journal managers who assign articles in order to look at the use of incentives and how these influence behavior. Incentives for peer review remain relatively rare overall: Results show that more than 80% of editorial board members said they ‘did not reward’ or ‘rewarded in less than 25% of cases’, while, at the same time, the same proportion of respondents felt that rewarding peer reviewers would be a good idea. The majority of our respondents felt that giving ‘something was better than nothing’ and that a token incentive would help. In terms of actual rewards, APC tokens are both wanted (52%) and awarded (42%) while certificates are given far more (43%) than they are actually wanted (12%). Surprisingly, money is given out far less (4%) than wanted (27%); this reward is not actually desired as much as one might expect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study sets out to detail the deceptive practice of including stock characters in the editorial boards of journals run by predatory publishers. Stock characters are defined by the author as those that currently (2023) appear 20 or more times on these editorial boards. Predatory publishers are in turn defined by the author as open access publishers in violation of three or more out of eight egregiously 'fatal' criteria such as identity theft and token (or no) peer review. Stock characters (and stolen academic names and affiliations in general) are included in editorial boards to give them an unwarranted appearance of quality and excellence. Ninety‐six of these stock characters were identified, with their numbers of board memberships ranging from 20 to 503 in the current year (2023). Some were cases of total identity theft, some partial identity theft, and some willing compliance. Academics in the latter category could also have records of publications with the predatory publishers in question. Universities typically warn staff and postgraduate students about the dangers of engaging with predatory publishers, but they can be unresponsive or otherwise negative when alerted to instances of such engagements involving their staff. Jack Amariglio was the founding editor of Rethinking MARXISM (as it was then typographically rendered) in 1988. He held the post for nine years, followed by many more years on the editorial board. During his nine years of editorship, nothing appeared in RM under Jack's name alone. His work was deeply embedded in a collective endeavor and can only be understood in relation to the others in the collective; at the same time, Jack's work was an attractive force that did much to hold the collective together. Simultaneously, and for an additional two decades beyond his editorship of RM, Jack was a member of the Merrimack College faculty. In both of these roles, Jack was an exemplar of a claim from an early issue of RM. The editors' introduction in volume 1, number 2, invited readers to quote the Herr Keuner stories by Bertolt Brecht, newly translated by Lee Baxandall: "Love," wrote Brecht-as-Keuner, "is the art of producing something with the capabilities of the other." The Journal of Music Therapy (JMT) authors' and editorial review board members' (ERBM) affiliation locations represent an aspect of diversity through differing cultures and political, healthcare, and educational systems. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the countries of JMT authors' and ERBM's institutional affiliations from 1998 to 2022. We established inclusion and exclusion criteria, operationally defined categories, and built databases. A total of 433 articles met our inclusion criteria. Most articles were published by authors/author teams located in the United States (n  = 305; 70.44%) or in a single international country (n  = 85; 19.63%), while fewer articles were published by author teams located in multiple international countries (n  = 23, 5.31%) or in international countries and the United States (n  = 20, 4.62%). Authors were from 21 countries, and there tended to be a slight decline over time in articles by United States authors. When examining the total countries represented, United States authors (n  = 330) had the most articles followed by Australia (n  = 32), Norway (n  = 18), England (n  = 14), Israel (n  = 13), and Canada, Denmark, and South Korea (all n  = 12). There were 632 total JMT ERBM with 470 located within the United States and 162 located internationally. Although all ERBM's affiliations were in the United States in 1998, these data gradually changed. There were more ERBM located internationally than in the United States from 2020 to 2022. Most international ERBM were from Australia, Canada, England, Israel, and Spain. Implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
