Advances in electro‐ionic soft actuators hold significant potential as next‐generation bioelectronic interfaces due to mechanical compliance and operation in agreement with soft biological tissues and low voltages. However, current devices call for encapsulation strategies to accommodate high mechanical demands and long‐term stability in environmental changes. In this study, a durability of polyvinylidene‐fluoride‐co‐hexafluoropropylene (PVDF‐co‐HFP) honeycomb skeleton electrolyte encapsulated with a biocompatible polyisobutylene (PIB) thin film is being investigated. A low water vapor transmission rate (0.61 g m−2 day−1) and elastic modulus (10 kPa) are measured from a 7.5 µm‐thick thin‐modified PIB‐encapsulation layer. The PIB‐encapsulated soft actuator maintains 68% of its mechanical durability after 40 000 cycles of zero‐to‐tension fatigue loading at room temperature. A cantilever actuation test of the PIB‐encapsulated 3mm‐wide 30mm‐long actuator film shows a large tip displacement (15.90 mm) at a low voltage (±1.5 V) under 0.1 Hz, 37 °C, 50% relative humidity (RH). Most importantly, while the unencapsulated actuator immediately degrades in a few cycles at 37 °C, 50%RH, and 0.1% applied strain, PIB‐encapsulated soft actuator performs up to 6500 dynamic actuation cycles without any functionality degradation. Exceptional durability against mechanical fatigue and stability at elevated temperature and humidity meet the prerequisite for future soft biomedical robots that enable long‐lasting safe operations. The article presents continued considerations presented in a prior publication on the development of a model for calculating the bending stiffness BS of cellular honeycomb paperboards, applying the strength properties of paper raw materials used for the production of paperboard and the geometric parameters of cellular board. The results of BS calculations obtained by using the analytical model presented in the prior publication were significantly overestimated in relation to the value obtained by measurements. The calculation error in relation to the measurement value for the tested group of paperboards in the case of bending stiffness in the machine direction MD was within the range from 23% to 116%, and the average error was 65%, while in the cross direction CD, it was within the range from 2% to 54%, and the average error was 31%. The calculation model proposed in this work based on the physical properties of cellular paperboard reduces the error values for bending stiffness in both the machine and cross directions. The value of the average error for both main directions in the paperboard plane was 10%. The method enables more accurate determination of BS in the machine direction MD and in the cross direction CD at the paperboard design stage. In order to validate the proposed analytical model, the calculation results were compared with the results of BS laboratory measurements performed using the four-point bending method and, in order to expand the group of tested paperboards, with the measurement results presented in the prior article for cardboards with different raw material composition and different geometric parameters. The cell array type significantly affects the global stresses in curved honeycomb sandwich panels. In this study, the curved sandwich panels with the out-plane honeycomb core (COP) and the in-plane honeycomb core (CIP) are proposed. Their local impact resistance is numerically investigated using finite element simulation calibrated with air cannon test results. Various impact scenarios including different projectile diameters, different impacting velocities, angles, as well as locations are considered. The performances of the COP and CIP panels with similar overall mass and relative density are compared by evaluating their impact histories and energy absorption properties. It is demonstrated that the CIP panel shows improved impact mitigation and energy absorption property under local impact. However, its overall displacement is significantly larger than that of the COP panel. Based on the impact behavior of COP and CIP panels, the hybrid two-layer structures (HOI and HIO) are designed. It is found that the HIO panel shows an increase in energy absorption of approximately 3% over the COP and CIP panels and a reduction in the overall displacement of at least 28% over the CIP panel. The localisation of a network is the process of gaining access to a node's precise location or position. Using this technology, it is possible to determine the exact position of each network node in terms of a select few nodes within a subset. The locating set of a network is this subset, and the locating number of a network is its lowest cardinality. While the edge locating number is the same concept but on the bonds instead of nodes. The deployable reflector antenna based on the synthetic aperture radar is a satellite component that consists of a unit structure in the form of a folded reflector. During the launch process, this satellite antenna is in the stowed condition to improve storage efficiency. It is then deployed to perform the space mission in the on-orbit condition. Due to these structural characteristics of the deployable reflector antenna, the reflector is possible to be loaded in the limited volume of the launch vehicle with the reduced size. Additionally, because the deployable reflector antenna is made by the lightweight material of the carbon fiber reinforced polymer and honeycomb core, it can reduce the launching cost and improve the revisit interval. In this paper, the conceptual design of the main reflector of the deployable reflector antenna was conducted. The main reflector was designed as the honeycomb sandwich composite structure. To design the main reflector, the stacking sequence of the composite material and honeycomb core was investigated to maximize the structural stiffness and minimize the antenna's mass. Subsequently, finite element analyses including modal, quasi-static, structural–thermal coupling, and transient response were performed to numerically evaluate the structural performance of the lightweight composite reflector antenna. A novel re-entrant honeycomb metamaterial based on 3D-printing technology is proposed by introducing chiral structures into diamond honeycomb metamaterial (DHM), named chiral-diamond-combined honeycomb metamaterial (CDCHM), and has been further optimized using the assembly idea. Compared with the traditional DHM, the CDCHM has better performance in static and vibration isolation. The static and vibration properties of the DHM and CDCHM are investigated by experiments and simulations. The results show that the CDCHM has a higher load-carrying capacity than that of the DHM. In addition, the vibration isolation optimal design schemes of the DHM and CDCHM are examined by experiments and simulations. It is found that the vibration suppression of the CDCHM is also improved greatly. In particular, the optimization approach with metal pins and particle damping achieves a wider bandgap in the low-frequency region, which can strengthen the suppression of low-frequency vibrations. And the introduction of particle damping can not only design the frequency of the bandgap via the alteration of the dosage, but also enhance the damping of the main structure. This work presents a new design idea for metamaterials, which provides a reference for the collaborative design of the static and vibration properties of composite metamaterials. An efficient method for the synthesis of higher‐order iptycenes using an "ambident anthracene" building block is presented. For that purpose, an iterative elongation strategy involving the ring‐opening of an endoxide to give a highly reactive anthranoxide, followed by a Diels‐Alder reaction with an aryne was used. The method systematically provides higher‐order iptycenes, including trideciptycene, which is currently the iptycene with the longest chain to have been synthesized. X‐ray crystallography revealed interesting structures in which solvent molecules fill the cavities of these iptycenes, thus creating a "honeycomb" structure with the solvent molecules arranged in tubular spaces. By performing isothermal–isochoric Monte Carlo simulations with depletion force, the author investigated the dependence of the epitxial layer structure on the differences in the particle size between the substrate in colloidal heteroepitaxy. By changing the size of epitaxial particles and performing simulations comprehensively, various structures including the structures observed in a experiment, such as a honeycomb, one created by hexagonal heptamers, and one consisting of both pentagonal tiles and triangular tiles, were created. When the ratio of particle sizes between the epitxial layer and substrate takes a specific value, two types of hexagonal structures were created. One is the hexagonal layer parallel to the substrate layer and the other layer is rotated by 60 ∘ from the substrate layer. The former structure was created over a wide range of particle-size ratios, whereas the latter structure was created when the particle-size ratio was only around the specific ratio, and it seemed a metastable structure. Due to its advantages in terms of enhancing the performance of structures in the desired applications, the bio-inspired design approach has recently attracted the interest of researchers in a number of engineering disciplines. A hybrid bio-inspired design is suggested for the sandwich structures to absorb the energy of the blast loads in the current study. The sandwich structure's core, which often has a regular grid pattern resembling a honeycomb structure, is crucial to how well the panel absorbs energy. In order to achieve the best results, we first chose the structure of the core grid by taking into account potential 2D grids (polygons and multi-pointed stars) through Genetic Algorithm optimization. Next, we combined a bio-inspired bi-tubular thin-walled structure with the core grid to take advantage of its high energy absorption capacity. Finally, the performance of the suggested design is compared with four frequently implemented ones. Quasiperiodic patterns and crystals—having long range order without translational symmetry—have fascinated researchers since their discovery. In this study, we report on new p‐terphenyl‐based T‐shaped facial polyphiles with two alkyl end chains and a glycerol‐based hydrogen‐bonded side group that self‐assemble into an aperiodic columnar liquid quasicrystal with 12‐fold symmetry and its periodic liquid‐crystalline approximants with complex superstructures. All represent honeycombs formed by the self‐assembly of the p‐terphenyls, dividing space into prismatic cells with polygonal cross‐sections. In the perspective of tiling patterns, the presence of unique trapezoidal tiles, consisting of three rigid sides formed by the p‐terphenyls and one shorter, incommensurate, and adjustable side by the alkyl end chains, plays a crucial role for these phases. A delicate temperature‐dependent balance between conformational, entropic and space‐filling effects determines the role of the alkyl chains, either as network nodes or trapezoid walls, thus resulting in the order‐disorder transitions associated with emergence of quasiperiodicity. In‐depth analysis suggests a change from a quasiperiodic tiling involving trapezoids to a modified one with a contribution of trapezoid pair fusion. This work paves the way for understanding quasiperiodicity emergence and develops fundamental concepts for its generation by chemical design of non‐spherical molecules, aggregates, and frameworks based on dynamic reticular chemistry. We implement an all-optically reconfigurable triangular lattice of exciton–polariton condensates in a III–V semiconductor microcavity. For this, we utilize a spatial light modulator to structure an incident nonresonant excitation laser beam into a corresponding triangular lattice of Gaussian beams that are focused onto the cavity plane. The optical excitation pattern locally stimulates and blueshifts polaritons due to exciton interactions. At a critical pump power, polaritons condense into a macroscopically coherent Bloch state with sharp Bragg peaks. We reconstruct the full band structure of the system through energy tomography techniques as a function of lattice constant, allowing us to resolve polaritonic Bloch bands from the condensate emission. While for sufficiently large lattice constants, one observes the formation of triangular arrays of condensates, for small lattice constant and pump powers above condensation threshold, one observes the formation of honeycomb, instead of triangular, lattice of condensates, with clear evidence of condensation into the S-band. Our results underpin the quality of all-optically engineered polariton lattices to simulate condensed matter systems in the strong coupling regime. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The influence of platinum additives on the properties of rhodium catalysts in the processes of steam reforming and autothermal reforming of diesel fuel was investigated. It was found that Rh/CZF was more active compared to the bimetallic sample Rh–Pt/CZF: the degree of fuel conversion in its presence was higher, and the concentration of reaction by-products was lower. The proposed two-zone Pt/CZF + Rh/CZF structured honeycomb catalyst demonstrated stable performance and high activity in the autothermal reforming of commercial diesel fuel. However, the presence of platinum in the frontal zone of the catalyst reduced its resistance to coking compared to the rhodium-containing sample. The results obtained are of practical significance in the development of efficient systems for the conversion of heavy hydrocarbons into synthesis gas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For the support structure of wind tunnel tests, a honeycomb sandwich structure is used to embed the wind tunnel tail brace to form a honeycole test process. Using Rayleigh beam theory and equivalent method, the lateral bending dynamic model of the support rod is solved and the natural frequency expression of the lateral bending vibration of the support rod is obtained. Taking the static strength of the support rod as the optimization design objective, the honeycomb sandwich structure was quantitatively described and the optimal design scheme was obtained through orthogonal experiments. The simulation and calculation results of the proposed support and hollow support are verified and compared with each other. The error between the first three natural frequencies of the honeycomb sandwich support given in this article and the simulation results is less than 9.52 %, which proves that the calculation results are relatively accurate. On the premise of meeting the constraints and load requirements, the low order resonant deformation of the transient dynamics simulation analysis is reduced by 30.27 %, significantly improving the vibration damping ability of the wind tunnel support system. The response of sandwich structures under the synergistic effects of blast wave and fragments is a topic of interest for researchers and designers. Thus, the performance of a sandwich structure used for enhancing the protection of a target structure is numerically investigated because it may experience such complex loading conditions resulting from combined blast and fragment impact. A conventional sandwich structure modelled using aluminium alloy resists a bare blast load imposed on it. Analysis, however, reveals that fragments penetrate through the front facesheet of a conventional sandwich structure, indicating a lower resistance of the front facesheet to combined blast and fragment effects. Thus, the behaviour of conventional aluminium honeycomb sandwich structures is compared with enhanced sandwich configurations consisting of a front facesheet covered with multilayer lightweight composite Kevlar fabric material. The Kevlar fabric arrests the maximum number of fragments, and reduces their momentum, thereby reducing the damage level in the sandwich structure. The effect of the charge weight and shape of the fragments on the damage modes of the sandwich structure is also assessed. With the increase in charge weight, the momentum of the fragments is found to increase, and these penetrate the back facesheet of the sandwich structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The authors report an experimental investigation on square thin-walled energy absorbers with different topologies and materials. The material was steel SAE 1010 and aluminum AL 6160. Some samples non-filled and filled with polymeric material received patterned windows placed in opposite faces with specific dimensions: 20x20, 15x30, and 20x30 mm2. Quasi-static axial loading crushes hollow specimens and hybrid specimens filled with PET-G honeycomb. The core filling was printed using the FDM technique. The crashworthy ability of specimens was evaluated based on the specific energy absorption (SEA), load ratio (LR) and structural efficiency (η), which showed that windowed-filled specimens with 20x30 mm2 perform better. The maximum increase of SEA was 212%, LR decreased from 4.02 to 1.78 and η increased from 0.45 to 0.89 for steel energy absorbers and in the same manner, the values for aluminum specimens were 123%, 2.97 to 1.28 and 0.46 to 0.71. The effects of the patterned windows and their combination with the honeycomb core for both metallic materials show that such a topology improved the performance in two factors. The windows reduced the peak force, and the PET-G honeycomb furnished a smoothing to the region at the end of the fold formation, contributing to the crashworthy ability. The design of graded and multifunctional lattice cores is driven by the increasing demand for high-performance components in lightweight engineering. This trend benefits from significant achievements in additive manufacturing, where the lattice core and the face sheets are fabricated simultaneously in a single print job. This work systematically compares the mechanical performance of sandwich panels comprising various graded lattice cores subjected to concentrated loads. In addition to graded lattice cores, uniform lattices and conventional honeycomb cores are analyzed. To obtain an optimized graded lattice core, a fully stressed design method is applied. Stresses and displacements are determined using a linear elastic analytical model that allows grading the core properties in a layerwise manner through the core thickness. The analysis indicates the superior performance of graded lattice cores compared to homogeneous lattice cores. However, conventional honeycombs outperform graded lattice cores in terms of load-to-weight ratio and stiffness-to-weight ratio. Honeycomb panels made of aluminum and composite materials—aramid, or Kevlar—are widely used in aviation, space, automotive, and other fields due to their unique characteristics: high strength and rigidity, low density, and good thermal insulation properties. However the mechanical processing of products made of honeycomb materials faces several difficulties, and one of the technologies that effectively solves the problems of cutting products made of honeycomb materials is ultrasonic cutting. In this paper, the finite element method is used to study the frequency properties necessary for designing tools for ultrasonic cutting of products made of honeycomb materials with operating frequencies around 20 kHz and various geometric parameters for cutting different variants of honeycomb constructions. The results of analyzing the wave dimensions of specialized ultrasonic triangular and disk-type instruments depending on geometry features are shown, along with the experimental results for a number of developed variants. The objectives of this study were to prepare a high-purity hydroxylammonium nitrate (HAN) solution and evaluate the performance of various types of metal oxide/honeycomb catalysts during the catalytic decomposition of the HAN solution. Hydroxylammonium nitrate was prepared via a neutralization reaction of hydroxylamine and nitric acid. FT-IR was used to analyze the chemical composition, chemical structure, and functional groups of the HAN. The aqueous HAN solution obtained from pH 7.06 showed the highest concentration of HAN of 60% and a density of 1.39 g/mL. The concentration of HAN solution that could be obtained when the solvent was evaporated to the maximum level could not exceed 80%. In this study, catalysts were prepared using a honeycomb structure made of cordierite (5SiO2-2MgO-2Al2O3) as a support, with Mn, Co, Cu, Pt, or Ir impregnated as active metals. The pore structure of the metal oxide/honeycomb catalysts did not significantly depend on the type of metal loaded. The Cu/honeycomb catalyst showed the strongest effect of lowering the decomposition onset temperature in the decomposition of the HAN solution likely due to the intrinsic activity of the Cu metal being superior to that of the other metals. It was confirmed that the effect of the catalyst on the decomposition mechanism of the aqueous HAN solution was negligible. Through a repetitive cycle of HAN decomposition, it was confirmed that the Cu/honeycomb catalyst could be recovered and reused as a catalyst for the decomposition of an aqueous HAN solution. This paper presents a novel rhombic star-shaped honeycomb (RSSH) configuration with tunable Poisson's ratio and elastic modulus, and an RSSH with the U-shaped ligaments (URSSH) configuration is generated to analyze the effect of the curved ligaments on the elastic properties of RSSH. Cellular structure of RSSH combines with a rhombic and an improved star-shaped geometry, which can also be subdivided into flexible segments and rigid segments. In-plane elastic properties of the RSSH cell, including Poisson's ratio and elastic modulus, are both derived by analytical model based on flexibility modeling method and Castigliano's second theorem. Based on the guidance of theoretical model, quasi-static tensile experiments and finite element simulation of RSSH and URSSH specimens are carried out with different Poisson's ratio. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions and finite element analysis results. Length of cellular ligaments Lt1, dt have linear relationship with mechanical properties of the RSSH cell under constant angle θ1 and make the cellular configurations with different Poisson's ratio more obtainable. The effect of the symmetry of the flexible segments on the cellular mechanical properties is also analyzed through theoretical prediction. The introduction of asymmetry can bring wider design space of RSSH mechanical properties, especially Poisson's ratio. In this paper, restricted growth of molybdenum carbide nanoparticles in hierarchically porous nitrogen-doped carbon matrix (Mo 2 C/NC) was designed and prepared via a salt-assisted template route and carbonization process, whose morphology and the wave-absorbing properties are regulated by changing the content of Mo 2 C/NC nanoparticles. The honeycomb porous Mo 2 C/NC composites with large specific surface area and smooth surface can optimize the impedance matching and allow the entrance, multiple reflections and scattering of incident electromagnetic waves (EMW), which effective enhance the electromagnetic wave consumption. Meanwhile, the honeycomb cross-linked carbon matrix facilitates the construction of the conductive network and enhances its conductive loss. Furthermore, numerous Mo 2 C/NC nanoparticles dispersed restricted growth in carbon matrix induces interfacial polarization. In addition, the heteroatom nitrogen doping acts as dipole centers to induce dipole polarization under electromagnetic field. The uniquely designed Mo 2 C/NC absorbers show satisfactory EMW absorption behaviors of a minimum reflection loss (RL min) of −61.53 dB at 1.5 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 9.6 GHz at 3.5 mm. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive lung disease with high mortality. The Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs, nintedanib and pirfenidone, could delay progressive fibrosis by inhibiting the overactivation of fibroblast, however, there was no significant improvement in patient survival due to low levels of drug accumulation and remodeling of honeycomb cyst and interstitium surrounding the alveoli. Herein, we constructed a dual drug (verteporfin and pirfenidone)-loaded nanoparticle (Lip@VP) with the function of inhibiting airway epithelium fluidization and fibroblast overactivation to prevent honeycomb cyst and interstitium remodeling. Specifically, Lip@VP extensively accumulated in lung tissues via atomized inhalation. Released verteporfin inhibited the fluidization of airway epithelium and the formation of honeycomb cyst, and pirfenidone inhibited fibroblast overactivation and reduced cytokine secretion that promoted the fluidization of airway epithelium. Our results indicated that Lip@VP successfully rescued lung function through inhibiting honeycomb cyst and interstitium remodeling. This study provided a promising strategy to improve the therapeutic efficacy for IPF. Nomex honeycomb composite (NHC) cores have seen significant growth in recent years, particularly in the aeronautics, aerospace, naval and automotive industries. This development presents significant challenges in terms of improving machining quality, requiring the use of specialized cutting tools and favorable cutting techniques. In this context, experimental studies have been carried out to highlight the characteristics of the milling of NHCs by rotary ultrasonic machining (RUM). However, the rapid motion of the cutting tool and the inaccessibility of the tool/part interface prevent the visualization of the chip formation process. For this purpose, a three-dimensional numerical model for milling the NHC structure using RUM technology was developed by Abaqus Explicit software. On the basis of this model, the components of the cutting force, the quality of the machined surface and the chip accumulation in front of the cutting tool were analyzed. The numerical results agree with the experimental tests, demonstrating that the use of RUM technology effectively reduces the cutting force components. An in-depth analysis of the influence of feed component Fy on the quality of the generated surface was carried out, revealing that the surface quality improved with low values of feed component Fy. Object: The dynamic behavior of sandwich cylindrical shell with fused deposition processed of flexible honeycomb core and carbon nanotube reinforced composite faces sheets is analyzed. Method: The every layer of the sandwich cylindrical shell is described by three displacements projections and two rotations angles of the normal to the middle surface. The faces sheets displacements projections are expanded up to the quadratic terms with respect to transverse coordinates. The honeycomb core displacements projections are expanded up to the cubic terms with respect to a transverse coordinate. The compatibility conditions for layers are used. The Rayleigh–Ritz method is applied to analyze linear vibrations of sandwich cylindrical shell. Based on the concept of component assembly, a novel star polygon-coupled honeycomb metamaterial, which achieves a collaborative improvement in load-bearing capacity and vibration suppression performance, is proposed based on a common polygonal structure. The compression simulation and experiment results show that the load-bearing capacity of the proposed metamaterial is three times more than that of the initial metamaterial. Additionally, metal pins are attached and particle damping is applied to the metamaterial to regulate its bandgap properties; the influence of configuration parameters, including the size, number, position, and material of the metal pins, on bandgaps is also investigated. The results show that the bandgap of the proposed metamaterial can be conveniently and effectively regulated by adjusting the parameters and can effectively suppress vibrations in the corresponding frequency band. Particle damping can be used to continuously adjust the frequency of the bandgap and further enhance the vibration suppression capacity of the metamaterial in other frequency bands. This study reports the fabrication and characterization of molybdenum (Mo) metal and titanium‐zirconium‐molybdenum (TZM) alloy exoskeletons with honeycomb cavity structures (HCS) that are infiltrated with oxygen‐free high conductivity (OFHC) Cu under an inert atmosphere as a potential replacement for Cu‐Mo‐Cu laminate in heat sink applications for power electronics semiconductors like GaAs. The thermal expansion behavior and the thermal loading of the starting Mo and TZM structures, and of the Cu‐infiltrated parts are evaluated. The fabricated Mo and TZM structures with density >99% and Mo‐based heat sinks with improved CTE (6.6 × 10−6 K−1) when compared to conventional Cu‐Mo‐Cu laminated heat sinks (CTE = 7.6 × 10−6 K−1). The new Mo and TZM structures promise superior performance due to their closer CTE to that of GaAs and similar semiconductors (CTE = 5.7 × 10−6 K−1). Exposure to temperatures up to 1073 K did not affect the Mo microstructure due to the inherent resistance to recrystallization, while exposure to 1373 K did reduce hardness. In contrast, TZM exoskeletons showed resistance to recrystallization even at 1373 K. The fabricated composite heat sinks showed thermal diffusivity (≈61 × 106 m2 s−1) that is within the upper limits of those reported for commercial laminated heat sinks (45 to 65 × 106 m2 s−1). In light of the rapid advancements within the electronic industry, the urgent need for the development and implementation of advanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials has become paramount. Herein a novel approach is presented for developing of lightweight honeycomb structures using 3D printing technology, combined with subsequent conductive spray coating, containing Silver Nanowires (AgNWs), to achieve effective EMI shielding as well as air vent functionality for thermal cooling.Using polyol method, AgNWs were synthesized having high aspect ratio and crystallinity for to be used as conductive coating on 3D printed structures. The EMI shielding results in X-band demonstrated that the developed structures exhibit promising EMI shielding properties, up to 35 dB attenuation with 2 mm honeycomb cell size, making them suitable for applications requiring EMI protection along with air venting. More importantly in all samples major contribution of the shielding efficiency comes from the absorption of the EM waves (up to 75 %) inside the structures which is helpful to reduce reflected EM noise.Effort was to effectively addresses the inherent limitations of conventional processing technology, by using additive manufacturing and material science to create structures for EMI shielding applications, bridging the gap between existing materials and desired components.

A method for measuring the resistive characteristics of channels in the blanks of microchannel plates was developed. Two probes were used for measurements, which minimized leakage currents through adjacent channels. The resistive properties of single channels of the microchannel insert in the reduced blank of MCP 18-10 were studied. It was established that the resistance of the channels depends on their position in the microchannel honeycomb. We theoretically proposed a feasible way to design multi-topological states in one two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC). By sliding and rotating the meta-atoms of its unit cell, the topological phase of the PC can be continuously tuned, but without a closing of bandgap; it is similar to the Kekulé modulation in honeycomb lattices. We first show the existence of helical topological edge states in conventional topological insulator, which intersect together and form a Dirac cone in the two-dimensional synthetic space of the PC. Then, in full synthetic space, the PC behaves high-order topological insulator, and the corner state is then constructed in a heterostructure that consists of three different PCs. Furthermore, we demonstrate the photonic crystal with non-uniform modulation can behaves as a splitter and a rainbow trapper. This study presents a novel approach to synthesizing honeycomb carbon quantum dots (CQDs) from cigarette smoke by a hydrothermal process. A comprehensive characterization of these CQDs, conducted through high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), showcases their unique honeycomb structure, with an average particle size of 6.3 nm. Photoluminescence (PL) in CQDs is a captivating phenomenon where these nanoscale carbon structures emit strong blue luminescence at 461 nm upon exposure to ultraviolet light, with their excitation peak occurring at 380 nm. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis also identifies specific functional groups within the CQDs, offering valuable insights into the mechanisms governing their photoluminescence. Honeycomb composite with excellent mechanical–physical properties had attracted extensive attention. To achieve outstanding sound insulation while maximizing the high‐performance of honeycomb composite, this article reported a honeycomb composite structure filled with glass fiber (HFG) based on a paper‐making process and the corresponding sandwich structure. Pulping parameters, mechanical property, air permeability and sound insulation of HFG were analyzed. The results showed that the hanging index and settling height of glass fiber slurry were inversely proportional to the beating degree, which was beneficial for reducing the coefficient of variation (CV) of HFG with value of 4%–6%. The maximum improvement in tensile strength and bursting strength of HFG were 70% and 53%, respectively. In addition, sound transmission loss (STL) of HFG was proportional to cell size, density, filling amount and thickness of the honeycomb. Compared to HFG, sandwich structure consisting of HFG and glass fiber/hot melt fiber panels effectively improved STL, especially at low‐mid frequencies. It was also found that designing holes on the surface of sandwich structure could further improve STL in certain frequency bands. The structure offered a lightweight and high‐performance response for construction, transportation and infrastructure. To realize the one‐dimensional deformation of morphing wings, zero Poisson's ratio (ZPR) honeycomb metamaterials have become a popular research topic due to their lightweight, low in‐plane modulus, and high out‐of‐plane strength. A ZPR honeycomb metamaterial is designed and prepared from short‐cut carbon fiber‐reinforced polyetheretherketone (CF/PEEK) by a 3D printer. The mechanical properties of ZPR honeycomb metamaterials were tested to determine their tensile and bending stiffness. The results show that the metamaterial can achieve 62.3% ± 3.3% in‐plane elastic deformation after optimized structure design. At the same time, metamaterial has a certain bending resistance to keep the airfoil from normal buckling deformation. Moreover, a new test method for evaluating the cycle deformation behavior of flexible morphing wings is proposed. The high‐speed cyclic tension‐compression test showed that H22‐t0.6‐CT has the best stability, which may be related to its lower porosity (2.15% ± 0.12%). These results indicate that ZPR honeycomb metamaterials have great application prospects in the field of morphing wings. Complex structural configuration design is necessary for dielectric‐magnetic lossy composites to achieved broadband microwave absorption in civil and defense applications. Based on the unique space filling characteristic of fractal structure, the honeycomb metastructure can possess microwave absorption and mechanical resistance. However, traditional molding technique was difficult to realize complex shape of metastructure. Herein, the dielectric‐magnetic filament with different concentration of carbonyl iron particles was fabricated by high‐temperature extrusion process. The multi‐physical honeycomb metastructure with gradient layers was printed by fused deposition modeling (FDM) in a large size. The printed dielectric‐magnetic samples exhibited strong dielectric‐magnetic loss with high printing quality. The honeycomb metastructure achieved broadband microwave absorption in the −10 dB bandwidth of 9.6–18 GHz with tensile strength of 31 MPa. The results indicate that FDM is useful to fabricate metastructure with complex shape for broadband microwave absorption. The dielectric‐magnetic properties of filament are magnified by metastructure design. The proposed design‐fabrication process is promising for functional structure realization with complex shape in the future. Highlights: 1. This study presents a novel approach inspired by the hexagonal honeycomb structure found in nature, leveraging image processing algorithms to precisely define complex geometries in thermal systems. Hexagonal phase change material containers and thermally conductive fins were meticulously delineated, mirroring the intricate real-world designs of honeycombs. This innovative methodology not only streamlines setup processes but also enhances our understanding of melting dynamics within enclosures, highlighting the potential benefits of biomimetic design principles in engineering applications. Two distinct honeycomb structures were employed to investigate their impact on the melting process within cavities subject to heating from the left wall, with the remaining walls treated as adiabatic surfaces. The incorporation of a thermally conductive fin system within the enclosure significantly reduced the time required for a complete phase change, emphasizing the profound influence of fin systems on thermal design and performance. This enhancement in heat transfer dynamics makes fin systems advantageous for applications prioritizing precise temperature control and expedited phase change processes. Furthermore, the critical role of the fin system design was emphasized, influencing both the onset and location of the final point of melting. This underscores the importance of tailoring fin systems to specific applications to optimize their performance. Our study highlights the significant impact of the Rayleigh (Ra) number on the melting time in a cavity without fins, revealing a decrease from 6 to 0.4 as the Ra increased from 102 to 105; the introduction of a fin system uniformly reduced the melting time to Ste.Fo = 0.5, indicating fins' universal effectiveness in optimizing thermal dynamics and expediting the melting process. Moreover, the cavity angle was found to significantly affect the fluid fraction diagram in unfanned cavities but had minimal impact when fins were present, highlighting the stabilizing role of fins in mitigating gravitational effects during melting processes. These insights expand our understanding of cavity geometry and fin interactions in heat transfer, offering potential for enhanced thermal system designs in various engineering applications. Decreasing thermal conductivity (λ) by increasing the fin thickness can halve the melting time, but the accompanying disadvantages include a heavier system and reduced energy storage due to less phase change material, necessitating a careful balance in decision-making. This paper presents an innovative method of constructing energy absorbers, whose primary function is to effectively transform kinetic energy into strain energy in events with high deformation rates. Hybrid specimens are proposed considering thin-walled windowed metallic tubes filled with 3D-printed hexagonal honeycombs made of PET-G and ABS thermoplastic. The patterned windows dimensions vary from 20 × 20, 20 × 30, 15 × 20 and 15 × 30 mm2. Although using polymers in engineering and thin-walled sections is not new, their combination has not been explored in this type of structure designed to withstand impacts. Specimens resist out-of-plane quasi-static axial loading, and test results are analyzed, demonstrating that polymer core gives the samples better performance parameters than unfilled samples regarding energy absorption (Ea), load rate (LR), and structural effectiveness (η). An optimization procedure using specialized software was applied to evaluate experimental results, which led to identifying the optimal window geometry (16.4 × 20 mm2, in case) and polymer to be used (ABS). The optimized sample was constructed and tested for axial compression to validate the optimization outcomes. Novel CO2- and H3PO4-modified biochars were successfully synthesized from raw honeycomb biomass. They were characterized via several instrumental techniques. The optimal Pt(II) and Pt(IV) adsorption onto the studied biochars was reached for the initial pH of 1.5 and a contact time of 5 min (Pt(II)) and 24–48 h (Pt(IV)). The highest static adsorption capacities for Pt(II) and Pt(IV) were obtained for the H3PO4-modified biochar: 47 mg g−1 and 35 mg g−1, respectively. The Freundlich model described the Pt(II) adsorption isotherms onto both materials and the Pt(IV) adsorption isotherm onto the CO2-activated material, and the Langmuir model was the best fitted to the Pt(IV) adsorption isotherm onto the H3PO4-activated biochar. The best medium for the quantitative desorption of the Pt form from the H3PO4-modified biochar was 1 mol L−1 thiourea in 1 mol L−1 HCl. The adsorption mechanism of both the studied ions onto the synthesized H3PO4-modified biochar was complex and should be further investigated. A significant challenge in electrolyte-supported solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) pertains to the substantial thickness of the electrolyte, resulting in elevated operational temperatures that hinder commercial viability. In this research, we utilized digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing technology to fabricate ultra-thin honeycomb electrolyte-supported SOFCs and subsequently evaluated their performance. Through the use of ultraviolet absorbers, we achieved a shallow curing depth (60.3 μm), which facilitated the creation of ultra-thin electrolyte samples. We investigated the mechanical properties of electrolytes with various honeycomb structures, finding that the square honeycomb structure exhibited the highest mechanical integrity, with an average failure load of 1.01 N. Finally, we assessed the electrochemical performance, observing a substantial power density of 215.4 mW/cm2, representing a twofold increase compared to the 114 mW/cm2 achieved by the same method in a flat primary cell. Porous honeycomb mullite ceramics were controllably fabricated in-situ using stereolithography 3D printing. The effects of the dispersant type and content on the rheological behavior of the mullite precursor slurry were investigated. Additionally, the influence of the debinding atmosphere (air and argon) on the quality of the samples and formation of cracks was also studied. The results indicated that oleic acid (OA), 3-glycidoxypropylthrimethoxysilane (KH560), and disperbyk (BYK111) displayed the capability to create low-viscosity and highly stable slurries. Among these KH560 was proved to be the most effective. The mullite precursor slurry containing 4 wt% KH560 dispersants exhibited a shear thinning behavior. It displayed a viscosity of 0.26 Pa·s at a shear rate of 30 s−1. The mullite ceramic parts displayed good a dimensional resolution at an exposure dose of 5.47 mJ/cm2. During the debinding process, the printed parts were susceptible to cracking and deformation in air, but remained devoid of defects in argon. When the samples were sintered at 1600 °C, the corundum phase transformed almost completely into the mullite phase. The linear shrinkage values were 5.81%, 6.33%, and 10.26% in the O-X, O–Y and O-Z directions, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, Al 2 O 3 honeycomb sandwich structures with different core geometries (square, triangular, circular) have been fabricated through an additive manufacturing system based on the stereolithography (SLA) method. The debinding procedure was performed under both nitrogen and air atmospheres. The impacts of the debinding atmosphere and core geometry on the densification and mechanical properties were investigated. The stiffness and flexural strength of the ceramics were examined experimentally using an impulse excitation of vibration technique and a three-point bending test, respectively. The specific stiffness and specific strength of the ceramics were also evaluated, with the core geometries taken into consideration. The outcomes showed that higher densification was achieved when the ceramics were exposed to debinding in nitrogen. The stiffness values were found to be similar for the same debinding condition within the honeycomb sandwich structures, irrespective of the core geometry. Notably, the highest specific stiffness (98 MNm/kg) was achieved for the samples subjected to debinding in nitrogen with a square core geometry. Furthermore, ceramics with square cores for debinding in a nitrogen atmosphere also demonstrated the highest performance in terms of specific strength (110 kNm/kg) within the honeycomb structures. An infill pattern can be implemented in manufacturing a porous component using 3D Printing technology to reduce the mass of the printed part. The use of an infill pattern and infill angle affects the structure of the printed part. This research aims to investigate the effect of various infill patterns and angles on the compressive strength-to-mass ratio of components manufactured by 3D Printing. This research implements a General Linear Model analysis with two replications. Seventy-two compressive test specimens, according to ASTM D695, are printed and tested for compression. The experiment results show that the type of infill pattern has a significant effect on the mass. However, the mass is not significantly influenced by the infill angle. In addition, the infill pattern type and the infill angle significantly influence the compressive strength of the specimen. Then, the compressive strength-to-mass ratio is significantly affected by the infill patterns and angles. The results indicate that a part using the Honeycomb infill pattern type gains the highest compressive strength-to-mass ratio compared to other infill patterns. On the opposite, the infill pattern that creates the lowest compressive strength-to-mass ratio compared to other infill patterns is the Archimedean chords type. The use of a 45° infill angle causes the lowest compressive strength-to-mass ratio compared to other infill angles. Honeycomb materials as reinforcements for shape memory polymers have been considered for their commercial availability, ease of geometric tailoring, and high in-plane stiffnesses. The design optimization of these honeycomb cells remains an open field of research, with many approaches taken in formulating the structural optimization problems. This investigation focuses on implementing a shape variable parametrization of the honeycomb to study the possible value of both cell asymmetry and spatially varying cell geometries in multicell networks. A unit cell finite element model framework was developed to predict the in-plane elastic properties of these composites, and two design objectives were selected to be optimized. Pareto fronts were estimated for multiple loading cases and cell wall material models, and experimental results were collected for model validation. The optimization results find that these composites can achieve a large range of performances, with maximum moduli as high as 17.2 GPa. Large asymmetry is found in the optimized cell geometries, and relationships are identified between loading cases and for different wall materials. Furthermore, the experimental results validate the finite element model predictions, with relative errors as low as 20% for the predicted maximum modulus and 2% for the modulus ratio. The co-integration of antennas with lighting sources appears as an effective way to distribute broadband networks closer to users, lowering interference and transmitted power, as well as to reduce energy consumption in future lighting systems. We here present an original contribution to the implementation of transparent and invisible antennas with OLED light sources. To validate the proposed approach, the honeycomb mesh technique was used, and an optical transparency of 75.4% was reached. The transparent mesh antenna was compared with the non-transparent full-metal antenna in terms of radio-electrical parameters. Our prototype was designed using copper films deposited on a glass substrate. The simulation results of the S-parameters and the radiation patterns were validated against measurements performed in an anechoic chamber. The directivity and gain obtained were 6.67 dBi and 4.86 dBi at 5.16 G Hz , respectively. To study the effect of antenna integration with OLEDs, optical and photometric characterizations with and without the antenna were measured, and the colorimetric parameters were then treated using the IES TM-30-18 standard. In this article, the non‐linear free vibration behavior of sandwich composite panels with sinusoidal corrugations is examined. These panels consist of a top and bottom skin made of a graphene‐reinforced composite, with an auxetic honeycomb core having negative Poisson's ratio. The non‐linear kinematic field is based on Kant's higher‐order shear‐deformation theory and the Green‐strain, which incorporates all the higher‐order terms. By implementing the Hamilton principle, the non‐linear governing equations are affirmed and solved further through 2D‐isoparametric finite element approximations via Lagrangian elements in conjunction with Picard's successive iterative scheme. The comparison and validation tests demonstrate the correctness of the present model. The established sandwich model is further employed for various parametric conditions by varying the core‐to‐face sheet thickness, auxetic honeycomb properties, graphene volume fraction, shell configurations, temperature, and support conditions. These numerous results exemplify the non‐linear frequencies at small‐to‐large amplitudes for the sandwich shell structures and are discussed in detail. Background: Honeycomb cysts (HC) within the alveolar region are distinct histopathological features in the lungs of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients. HC are lined with a single-or stratified layer of basal cells (BC), or with a bronchiolar-like epithelium composed of basal-, ciliated- and secretory epithelial cells. By using cultured IPF patient-derived alveolar BC, we aimed to establish an in vitro- and in vivo model to mimic HC formation in IPF. We (1) optimized conditions to culture and propagate IPF patient-derived alveolar BC, (2) cultured the cells on an air liquid interface (ALI) or in a three dimensional (3D) organoid model, and (3) investigated the cells' behavior after instillation into bleomycin-challenged mice. Methods: Alveolar BC were cultured from peripheral IPF lung tissue and grown on tissue-culture treated plastic, an ALI, or in a 3D organoid model. Furthermore, cells were instilled into bleomycin-challenged NRG mice. Samples were analyzed by TaqMan RT-PCR, immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence (ICC/IF), or immunohistochemistry (IHC)/IF. Mann–Whitney tests were performed using GraphPad Prism software. Results: Cultured alveolar BC showed high expression of canonical basal cell markers (TP63, keratin (KRT)5, KRT14, KRT17), robust proliferation, and wound closure capacity. The cells could be cryopreserved and propagated for up to four passages without a significant loss of basal cell markers. When cultured on an ALI or in a 3D organoid model, alveolar BC differentiated to ciliated- and secretory epithelial cells. When instilled into bleomycin-challenged mice, human alveolar BC cells formed HC-like structures composed of human basal-, and secretory epithelial cells within the mouse parenchyma. Conclusion: IPF patient-derived alveolar BC on an ALI, in 3D organoids or after instillation into bleomycin-challenged mice form HC-like structures that closely resemble HC within the IPF lung. This research delves into the influence of intrinsic decoherence on the behavior of quantum correlations and coherence between two interacting qubits in a graphene-based system. To evaluate the amount of nonclassical correlations in the system, we employ local quantum uncertainty (LQU), and to assess quantum coherence we use the relative entropy of coherence (C r) and l 1 -norm (C l 1 ). We assume that the system is initially prepared in an extended-Werner-like (EWL) state, and we investigate how these quantifiers evolve over time and examine their sensitivity to various graphene layer system parameters, mixture parameter of the initial state and the intrinsic decoherence rate. Our results indicate that by adjusting the wave number operators, decreasing the intrinsic decoherence rate, and increasing the initial state mixing parameter, it is possible to enhance both quantum correlations and coherence within the two-dimensional honeycomb lattice system. In addition, we found that quantum coherence is more resilient to intrinsic decoherence than LQU, moreover, the l 1 -norm is more robust than the relative entropy of coherence. The key to obtain supercapacitors with high energy density is rational design and synthesis of negative electrode materials. Herein, a new type of polyoxometalate‐based coordination polymer was prepared by one‐step hydrothermal method. Polymer 1 with honeycomb two‐dimensional network structure is beneficial to improve electrical conductivity and storage capacity because of its π‐π stacking interaction. Ti3C2Tx, an MXene material with excellent electrical conductivity, was mixed with compound 1, which has rich redox reactions. As expected, 1@Ti3C2Tx exhibited outstanding specific capacitance (768.7 F g−1 at 8 A g−1), which is superior to many materials. In addition, the hybrid material also showed good cycle stability (88.1 % capacity retention after 1000 cycles). This work provides an effective way to develop hybrid electrode materials based on polyoxometalate‐based coordination polymers as supercapacitors. In addition, using 1@Ti3C2Tx as the negative electrode material and celery leaf carbon paper as the positive electrode material, the asymmetric supercapacitor device is fabricated. Lattice structures nowadays have gained a peak in research. Inspired by the honeycomb structure and fishbone, this study investigated lattice structures that can provide auxetic behavior and store maximum energy absorption during deformation mode. From that, the study involved designing and producing different modified lattices based on the honeycomb's structure and the fishbone's perspective. The specimens were 3D printed within fused filament fabrication techniques within the additive manufacturing platform of Euromed University of Fes. The conception, production, mechanical testing, and simulation have been employed to get optimum data analysis of the mechanical properties of the designed structures. The results observed under quasi-dynamic compression did not show significant densification behavior; but, the auxetic behavior was seen in all structures, while some suddenly collapsed. The experimental and numerical analysis demonstrated similar deformation behavior and strong agreement in their respective results. Nevertheless, some discrepancies in mechanical values were observed, with a relative percentage error of approximately 1% for both methods. Consequently, owing to the enhanced energy absorption observed in the V2 and V3 structures, it is evident that these modifications hold promise for optimizing the performance of these metamaterials in various practical applications. In this paper, sorghum and reed, which possess light stem structures in nature, were selected as biomimetic prototypes. Based on their mechanical stability characteristics—the porous structure at the node feature and the porous feature in the outer skin— biomimetic optimization design, simulation, and experimental research on both the traditional hexagonal structure and a hexagonal honeycomb structure were carried out. According to the two types of straw microcell and chamber structure characteristics, as well as the cellular energy absorption structure for the bionic optimization design, 22 honeycomb structures in 6 categories were considered, including a corrugated cell wall bionic design, a modular cell design, a reinforcement plate structure, and a self-similar structure, as well as a porous cell wall structure and gradient structures of variable wall thickness. Among them, HTPC-3 (a combined honeycomb structure), HSHT (a self-similar honeycomb structure), and HBCT-257 (a radial gradient variable wall thickness honeycomb structure) had the best performance: their energy absorption was 41.06%, 17.84%, and 83.59% higher than that of HHT (the traditional hexagonal honeycomb decoupling unit), respectively. Compared with HHT (a traditional hexagon honeycomb decoupling unit), the specific energy absorption was increased by 39.98%, 17.24%, and 26.61%, respectively. Verification test analysis revealed that the combined honeycomb structure performed the best and that its specific energy absorption was 22.82% higher than that of the traditional hexagonal structure. Purpose: The primary objective of this study is characterizing the anisotropic mechanical properties of corrugated cardboard and simultaneously simulating its drop cushioning dynamic effects under various drop conditions. Design/methodology/approach: Static and dynamic tests were conducted on corrugated cardboard to obtain adequate experimental data in different directions. An effective anisotropic constitutive model is introduced by developing the honeycomb materials model in ANSYS LS-Dyna, and an effective approach is established toward effectively determining the material parameters from the test data obtained. The model is validated by comparing simulation results with experimental data from five drop conditions, including bottom drop, front drop, side drop, 30° side drop and edge drop. Additionally, simulations are conducted to study the cushioning performance of the packaging by dropping the corrugated cardboard at different heights. Findings: The study establishes a fast and effective approach to simulating the drop cushioning performance of corrugated cardboard under various drop conditions, which demonstrates good agreement with experimental data. This analysis investigated the impact wave response and propagation on a composite sandwich shell when subjected to a low-velocity external shock, considering hygrothermal effects. The sandwich shell was crafted using face layers composed of functional gradient metal–ceramic matrix material and a core layer reinforced with negative Poisson's honeycomb. The honeycomb layer consisted of a combination of viscoelastic polymer material and elastic material. The equivalent parameters for the functional gradient material in the face layers were determined using the Mori–Tanaka and Voigt models, and the parameters for the negative Poisson's ratio honeycomb reinforcement core layer were obtained through Gibson's unit cell model. Parameters relevant to a low-velocity impact were derived using a modified Hertz contact law. The internal deformations, strains, and stress of the composite sandwich shell were described based on the higher-order shear deformation theory. The dynamic equilibrium equations were established using Hamilton's principle, and the Galerkin method along with the Newmark direct integration scheme was employed to calculate the shell's response to impact. The validity of the analysis was confirmed through a comparison with published literature. This investigation showed that a multilayer negative Poisson's ratio viscoelastic polymer material honeycomb-cored structure can dissipate impact wave energy swiftly and suppress shock effectively.
