Three-Dimensional Ground Penetrating Radar (3D GPR) detects subsurface targets non-destructively, rapidly, and continuously. The complex environment around urban roads affects the positioning accuracy of 3D GPR. The positioning accuracy directly affects the data quality, as inaccurate positioning can lead to distortion and misalignment of 3D GPR data. This paper proposed a multi-level robust positioning method to improve the positioning accuracy of 3D GPR in dense urban areas in order to obtain more accurate underground data. In environments with good GNSS signals, fast and high-precision positioning can be achieved based on GNSS data using differential GNSS technology; in scenes with weak GNSS signals, high-precision positioning of subsurface data can be achieved by using GNSS and IMU as well as using GNSS/INS tightly coupled solution technology; in scenes with no GNSS signals, SLAM technology is used for positioning based on INS data and 3D point cloud data. In summary, this method ensures a positioning accuracy of 3D GPR better than 10 cm and high-quality 3D images of underground urban roads in any environment. Mini–unmanned aerial vehicles (mini-UAVs) are emerging as a promising platform for through-wall radar to sense the enclosed space in cities, especially high-rise buildings, due to their excellent maneuverability. However, due to unavoidable environmental interference such as airflow, mini-UAVs are prone to trajectory deviation thus degrading their sensing accuracy. Most of the existing approaches model the impact of trajectory deviation into a polynomial phase error on the received signal, which cannot fit the space-variant motion error well. Moreover, the large trajectory deviations of UAVs introduce the unavoidable envelope error. This article proposes an autofocusing algorithm based on the back projection (BP) image, which directly estimates the trajectory deviations between the actual and measured track. Thus, the problem of the 2D space variability of the motion error can be circumvented. The proposed method mainly consists of two steps. First, we estimate the trajectory deviation in the line-of-sight (LOS) direction by exploring the underlying linear property of the wall embedded in the BP imaging result. Then, the estimated trajectory deviation in the LOS direction is compensated for to obtain an updated BP image, followed by a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) approach to estimate the trajectory deviation along the track through focusing targets behind the wall. Simulations and practical experiments show that the proposed algorithm can accurately estimate the serious trajectory deviations larger than the range resolution, improving the sensing robustness of UAV-borne through-wall radar greatly. Human settlement areas significantly impact the environment, leading to changes in both natural and built environments. Comprehensive information on human settlements, particularly in urban areas, is crucial for effective sustainable development planning. However, urban land use investigations are often limited to two-dimensional building footprint maps, neglecting the three-dimensional aspect of building structures. This paper addresses this issue to contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 11, which focuses on making human settlements inclusive, safe, and sustainable. In this study, Sentinel-1 data are used as the primary source to estimate building heights. One challenge addressed is the issue of multiple backscattering in Sentinel-1's signal, particularly in densely populated areas with high-rise buildings. To mitigate this, firstly, Sentinel-1 data from different directions, orbit paths, and polarizations are utilized. Combining ascending and descending orbits significantly improves estimation accuracy, and incorporating a higher number of paths provides additional information. However, Sentinel-1 data alone are not sufficiently rich at a global scale across different orbits and polarizations. Secondly, to enhance the accuracy further, Sentinel-1 data are corrected using nighttime light data as additional information, which shows promising results in addressing multiple backscattering issues. Finally, a deep learning model is trained to generate building height maps using these features, achieving a mean absolute error of around 2 m and a mean square error of approximately 13. The generalizability of this method is demonstrated in several cities with diverse built-up structures, including London, Berlin, and others. Landslides represent a major problem in human activities, especially in the proximity of cities or infrastructure. In this paper, we present the peculiar case of Pietracamela, Italy. Pietracamela is a small village located in the Central Apennines, a few kilometers north of the Gran Sasso Mountain. The peculiarity of the case study is the fact that the village is simultaneously affected by two different types of slope instabilities. The southwest sector, representing the historical part of the village, has been affected by large rockfalls generated from the "Capo le Vene" cliff located in the south of the village. The northeastern sector of the village represents the most recent urbanized area and is involved in a deep-seated landslide that, in the last decades, has damaged buildings and infrastructure. In this context, we have used two different types of remote sensing techniques to study the two phenomena. The rockfall area has been surveyed through the use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that allowed the definition of main joint sets and the volume of blocks associated with the most recent (2011) rockfall event. Three main joint sets have been highlighted, which are responsible for the failure of the "Capo le Vene" cliff. The volume of blocks that failed during the last rock failure in 2011 ranged from a few to 1500 m3. The deep-seated landslide has been studied by analyzing borehole data and 20 years of InSAR data from ERS1/2, ENVISAT, COSMO-SkyMed, and SENTINEL-1. It has been highlighted by InSAR analysis that the northeast sector of the village shows a perfectly linear displacement trend that generates movements up to about 230 mm (about 1 cm/year). Observations of the vertical wind profile in Chongqing, a typical mountainous city in China, are important, but they are sparse and have low resolution. To obtain more wind profile data, this study matched the Aeolus track with ground-based wind observation sites in Chongqing in 2021. Based on the obtained results, verification and quality control studies were conducted on the wind observations of a wind profile radar (WPR) with radiosonde (RS) data, and a comparison of the Aeolus Mie-cloudy and Rayleigh-clear wind products (Aeolus winds measured in cloudy and aerosol-rich atmospheric conditions from Mie-channel-collected data and winds measured in clear-air conditions from Rayleigh-collected data) with WPR data was then performed. The conclusions can be summarized as follows: (1) a clear correlation between the wind observations of WPR and RS was found, with a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.71. Their root mean square deviation increased with height but decreased at heights between 3 and 4 km. (2) After quality control using Gaussian filtering (GF) and empirical orthogonal function construction (EOFc; G=87.23 %) of the WPR data, the R between the WPR and RS reached 0.83 and 0.95, respectively. The vertical distribution showed that GF could better retain the characteristics of WPR wind observations but with limited improvement in decreasing deviations, whereas EOFc performed better in decreasing deviations but considerably modified the original characteristics of the wind field, especially regarding intensive vertical wind shear in strong convective weather processes. (3) In terms of the differences between the Aeolus and WPR data, 56.0 % and 67.8 % deviations were observed within ±5 m s -1 for Rayleigh-clear and Mie-cloudy winds (Aeolus winds measured in cloudy and aerosol-rich atmospheric conditions from Mie-channel-collected data and winds measured in clear-air conditions from Rayleigh-collected data) vs WPR winds, respectively. Vertically, large mean differences of both Rayleigh-clean and Mie-cloudy winds versus WPR winds appeared below 1.5 km, which is attributed to the prevailing quiet and small winds within the boundary layer in Chongqing; in this case the movement of molecules and aerosols is mostly affected by irregular turbulence. Additionally, large mean differences at a height range between 4 and 8 km for Mie-cloudy versus WPR winds may be related to the high content of cloud liquid water in the middle troposphere of Chongqing. (4) The differences in both Rayleigh-clear and Mie-cloudy versus WPR winds had changed. Deviations of 58.9 % and 59.6 % were concentrated within ±5 m s -1 for Rayleigh-clear versus WPR winds with GF and EOFc quality control, respectively. In contrast, 69.1 % and 70.2 % of deviations appeared within ±5 m s -1 for Rayleigh-clear versus WPR and EOFc WPR winds, respectively. Urban areas have been shown to impact rainfall by altering both its intensity and spatial structure at sub‐hourly and sub‐kilometer scales. However, there is currently no clear understanding of the precise pattern of change and the mechanisms that drive these changes. Since the hydrological response in urban areas is highly sensitive to such rainfall properties, understanding these changes is critical to improving our ability to assess urban flood risk. We use 7 years of high‐resolution weather radar data (4‐ or 5‐min and 1 km) to analyze changes in patterns of rainfall intensity, spatial structure, and storm evolution across eight urban areas within Europe and the United States. The use of the same methodology across the different cities enables a consistent comparison among them. We track convective rainfall events using a storm tracking algorithm and assess changes in rainfall properties in the upwind, center, and downwind regions of each city. We also investigate changes in the frequency of storm initiations, terminations, splitting, and merging. Our results show that urban areas act to intensify rainfall—mostly over them, but sometimes on their peripheries. Overall, larger cities tend to show the largest rainfall enhancements. Our findings highlight that rainfall spatial structure is altered over the urban core; usually resulting in more spatially concentrated rainfall. We also observe increased storm initiations over most cities and increased storm splitting over one. Given that demographic projections show that future urban population will increase, our results point toward an increased future flood risk in growing cities. Plain Language Summary: Urban flood risk is highly sensitive to the intensity and patterns of precipitation. At the same time, urban areas have been shown to impact rainfall by altering these properties. It is important to improve our understanding of how rainfall is modified by cities to better anticipate future flood risk. Here, we use weather radar observations to analyze changes in rainfall intensity and patterns across eight urban areas within Europe and the United States. Our results show that rainfall becomes more intense over cities compared to their surroundings, and sometimes on the city edges. Larger cities show larger increases in intensity. Our findings also show that rainfall usually becomes more spatially concentrated when passing the cities. Finally, we observe that more storms emerge over the cities in comparison to their surroundings, mostly in the late afternoon to evening hours. Given that we expect that cities will become larger and denser in the future, our results indicate that future flood risk may also increase in growing cities as urban rainfall trends toward increasing extremes. The study carried out in different areas of the city of Mérida, Yucatán, has the objectives of locating pre-Hispanic or colonial archaeological remains, register leveled areas from the Mayan times and to verify the existence of karstic areas in the subsoil, among others. For these studies in urban areas, we used ground penetrating radar (GPR), one of the non-invasive geophysical techniques. This technique allows to detect remains below the modern street pavement without interference in urban areas, reducing the need of excavation or other actions that may modify the area to be studied. In the present stage of the project, we selected places where the exploratory lines performed in previous seasons suggested the possibility of having archaeological remains below the city streets. We chose two zones where the bibliographic research indicates the existence of large platforms that were part of the T'Ho Mayan city, in another zone we verify the existence of a sculpture monument, and we also studied an archaeological park in the outskirts of the city. Most results confirmed the hypothesis, so we found extensive horizontal reflections interpreted as ancient leveling in the places where the platforms could be. In the Kambul zone, we found a clear hyperbolic reflection interpreted as a buried, large stone. In Chen Hó archaeological park, we found some cultural features inside the mounds. Besides the cultural features, we found many deep anomalies, interpreted as karstic zones, which are relevant because in the future they might reach the surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ground deformation is one of the crucial issues threatening many cities in both societal and economic aspects. Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) has been widely used for deformation monitoring. Recently, there has been an increasing availability of massive archives of SAR images from various satellites or sensors. This paper introduces Multi-Satellite SBAS that exploits complementary information from different SAR data to generate integrated long-term ground displacement time series. The proposed method is employed to create the vertical displacement maps of Almokattam City in Egypt from 2000 to 2020. The experimental results are promising using ERS, ENVISAT ASAR, and Sentinel-1A displacement integration. There is a remarkable deformation in the vertical direction along the west area while the mean deformation velocity is −2.32 mm/year. Cross-validation confirms that the root mean square error (RMSE) did not exceed 2.8 mm/year. In addition, the research findings are comparable to those of the previous research in the study area. Consequently, the proposed integration method has great potential to generate displacement time series based on multi-satellite SAR data; however, it still requires further evaluation using field measurements. An important geological risk to which many towns in Puglia are exposed is sinking cavities in urban areas. For urban centers, studying, mapping, providing geological and speleological descriptions, classifying, and cataloging the forms and types of cavities is essential because cavities are linked to past local anthropic and natural processes at different sites. These circumstances could lead to the enhancement of existing underground cavities in urban areas through conservation and continuous monitoring. Unfortunately, in many cases, these underground cavities have been used as landfills and subsequently abandoned. In late March 2007, one of these cavities collapsed inside Gallipoli's inhabited center, causing damage to the structures but fortunately not human lives. In the area surrounding the collapsed cavity, a series of geophysical investigations were undertaken using ground penetrating radar in an attempt to delimit the area of collapse and develop possible interventions for restoration. In the same area, these measures were repeated 16 years later in December 2022 due to another collapse. The comparison between data acquired in these two periods shows that there were no strong changes apart from an increased presence of subsoil moisture in 2022. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Extracting buildings in urban scenes from remote sensing images is crucial for the construction of digital cities, urban monitoring, urban planning, and autonomous driving. Traditional methods generally rely on shadow detection or stereo matching from multi-view high-resolution remote sensing images, which is cost-intensive. Recently, machine learning has provided solutions for the estimation of building heights from remote sensing images, but challenges remain due to the limited observation angles and image quality. The inherent lack of information in a single modality greatly limits the extraction precision. This article proposes an advanced method using multi-source remote sensing images for urban building height estimation, which is characterized by multi-level cross-fusion, the multi-task joint learning of footprint extraction and height estimation, and semantic information to refine the height estimation results. The complementary and effective features of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and electro-optical (EO) images are transferred through multi-level cross-fusion. We use the semantic information of the footprint extraction branch to refine the height estimation results, enhancing the height results from coarse to fine. Finally, We evaluate our model on the SpaceNet 6 dataset and achieve 0.3849 and 0.7231 in the height estimation metric δ 1 and footprint extraction metric D i c e , respectively, which indicate effective improvements in the results compared to other methods. The standard Permanent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PSInSAR) technique, which is commonly used for surface motion analysis, assumes linear deformation velocities. While effective for monitoring urban subsidence over short periods, it falls short when dealing with non-linear, earthquake-related deformations over extended timeframes. To address this limitation, we use a non-linear PSInSAR technique, which is an enhancement of PSInSAR, to identify non-linear deformation patterns. We processed Sentinel-1A images from ascending and descending orbits in the Islamabad/Rawalpindi region from December 2015 to January 2023 using non-linear PSInSAR. By calculating the differences in deformation, we analyzed surface movements and assessed the impact of the 2017 earthquake on urban areas. Our findings reveal that the earthquake significantly increased the deformation in ascending and descending orbit tracks, with an average deformation of up to 70 mm/yr and a line-of-sight movement of up to 30 mm/yr. Our observations indicate that the deformation is directed towards the line of sight in the north and south of the deformed area, suggesting subsidence between the two uplifting faults, potentially linked to a concealed fault line along the deformation zone boundary. This contradicts previous arguments, suggesting that water extraction is the leading cause of deformation. Our analysis with non-linear PSInSAR demonstrates that tectonics play a significant role in deformation, providing valuable insights into tectonic-activity-induced deformations in urban areas over the long term. The realization of a harmonious relationship between the natural environment and economic development has always been the unremitting pursuit of traditional mineral resource-based cities. With rich reserves of iron and coal ore resources, Laiwu has become an important steel production base in Shandong Province in China, after several decades of industrial development. However, some serious environmental problems have occurred with the quick development of local steel industries, with ground subsidence and consequent secondary disasters as the most representative ones. To better evaluate possible ground collapse risk, comprehensive approaches incorporating the common deformation monitoring with small-baseline subset (SBAS)-synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) technique, environmental factors analysis, and risk evaluation are designed here with ALOS PALSAR and Sentinel-1 SAR observations. A retrospect on the ground deformation process indicates that ground deformation has largely decreased by around 51.57% in area but increased on average by around −5.4 mm/year in magnitude over the observation period of Sentinel-1 (30 July 2015 to 22 August 2022), compared to that of ALOS PALSAR (17 January 2007 to 28 October 2010). To better reveal the potential triggering mechanism, environmental factors are also utilized and conjointly analyzed with the ground deformation time series. These analysis results indicate that the ground deformation signals are highly correlated with human industrial activities, such underground mining, and the operation of manual infrastructures (landfill, tailing pond, and so on). In addition, the evaluation demonstrates that the area with potential collapse risk (levels of medium, high, and extremely high) occupies around 8.19 km2, approximately 0.86% of the whole study region. Analyzing land subsidence using Multi-temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (MT-InSAR) technology holds significant importance for the secure development of urban areas. Shenzhen, being a crucial component of the Pearl River Delta, faces the threat of land subsidence, similar to most deltaic cities. Numerous studies have already indicated the presence of severe land subsidence in certain localities of Shenzhen. However, due to limitations in data scope and research methodologies, the comprehensive spatial-temporal distribution of land subsidence across the entire city of Shenzhen remains unclear. This study initially employed MT-InSAR technology to process a total of 534 Sentinel-1A SAR images from three different frames (P11F71, P113F71, P11F65), covering the entire city of Shenzhen. This processing resulted in the generation of subsidence rate maps and subsidence time series. Subsequently, the temporal evolution patterns of the subsidence were analyzed while significant subsidence regions were identified. By integrating information from optical images reflecting human activities on the Earth's surface, the study deduced the subsidence mechanisms in various significant subsidence areas. Research findings indicate that land subsidence in Shenzhen is primarily caused by construction activities, with a concentration in the western coastal areas of Shenzhen, reaching a maximum rate of 80 mm/yr, located at the estuary of Dongbao River (113.770385, 22.745305). The cumulative subsidence from March 2017 to June 2023 amounts to 500 mm. The expansion of the Qinglinjing Reservoir has led to an increased demand for water, resulting in a significant rise in formation pressure and subsequent land subsidence. InSAR land subsidence monitoring and analysis in urban areas can address the spatial and temporal resolution limitations of traditional subsidence monitoring methods, providing effective recommendations for widespread subsidence prevention and control. As urban economies flourish and populations become increasingly concentrated, urban surface deformation has emerged as a critical factor in city planning that cannot be overlooked. Surface deformation in urban areas can lead to deformations in structural supports of infrastructure such as road bases and bridges, thereby posing a serious threat to public safety and creating significant safety hazards. Consequently, research focusing on the monitoring of urban surface deformation holds paramount importance. Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), as an important means of earth observation, has all-day, wide-range, high-precision, etc., characteristics and is widely used in the field of surface deformation monitoring. However, traditional solitary InSAR techniques are limited in their application scenarios and computational characteristics. Additionally, the manual selection of ground control points (GCPs) is fraught with errors and uncertainties. Permanent scatterers (PS) can maintain high interferometric coherence in man-made building areas, and distributed scatterers (DS) usually show moderate coherence in areas with short vegetation; the combination of DS and PS solves the problem of manually selecting GCPs during track re-flattening and regrading, which affects the monitoring results. In this paper, 45 Sentinel-1B data from 16 February 2019 to 14 December 2021 are used as the data source in the urban area of Horqin District, Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, for example. A four-threshold (coherence coefficient threshold, FaSHPS adaptive threshold, amplitude divergence index threshold, and deformation velocity interval) GCPs point screening method for PS-DS, as well as a Small Baseline Subset-Permanent Scatterers-Distributed Scatterers-Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBAS-PS-DS-InSAR) method for selecting PS and DS points as ground control points for orbit refinement and re-flattening, are proposed. The surface deformation results obtained using the Small Baseline Subset Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBAS-InSAR) and the SBAS-PS-DS-InSAR proposed in this paper were comparatively analysed and verified. The maximum cumulative line-of-sight settlements were −90.78 mm and −83.68 mm, and the maximum cumulative uplifts are 74.94 mm and 97.56 mm, respectively; the maximum annual average line-of-sight settlements are −35.38 mm/y and −30.38 mm/y, and the maximum annual average uplifts are 25.27 mm/y and 27.92 mm/y. The results were evaluated and analysed in terms of correlation, mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean square error (RMSE). The deformation results of the two InSAR methods were evaluated and analysed in terms of correlation, MAE, and RMSE. The errors show that the Pearson correlation coefficients between the vertical settlement results obtained using the SBAS-PS-DS-InSAR method and the GPS monitoring results were closer to 1. The maximum MAE and RMSE were 13.7625 mm and 14.8004 mm, respectively, which are within the acceptable range; this confirms that the monitoring results of the SBAS-PS-DS-InSAR method were better than those of the original SBAS-InSAR method. The results show that the surface deformation results obtained using the SBAS-InSAR, SBAS-PS-DS-InSAR, and GPS methods have basically the same settlement locations, extents, distributions, and temporal and spatial settlement patterns. The deformation results obtained using these two InSAR methods correlate well with the GPS monitoring results, and the MAE and RMSE are within acceptable limits. By comparing the deformation information obtained using multiple methods, the surface deformation in urban areas can be better monitored and analysed, and it can also provide scientific references for urban municipal planning and disaster warning. The paper presents the acquisition and data processing approach for the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and laser scanner surveys carried out within the SOS project (the acronym comes from 'SOtto Siena', in English 'Beneath Siena'). SOS is a program aimed to overcome some of the problems and limitations currently present in the study of cities with long-term continuity of life, responding in particular to the need for a better understanding of the city's ancient fabric and hence to improvements in its conservation by: GPR city survey full coverage (of all the public spaces, streets, squares, courtyards, gardens, etc.), GIS data entry of the historical-archaeological and geoarchaeological knowledge and the development of a 3D Archaeological WEBGIS.The paper discusses the procedure for the creation of a 3D viewer within an already active WEBGIS platform, specifically created for the visualisation and management of archaeological data. The GPR data, once acquired, were exported in 3D in the form of point clouds and subjected to a procedure of cleaning and filtering from noise, so as to eliminate geometries not referable to anomalies and therefore to the presence of buried structures or cavities, and then transformed into mesh to meet the needs of the subsequent process of semantic enrichment. The GPR survey of the underground was flanked by laser scanning of some of the most significant structures in the historic centre (e.g. the cathedral). In the low-lying, river-rich Pearl River Delta in South China, an extensive network of flood defense levees, spanning over 4400 km, plays a crucial role in urban flood management. These levees are designed to withstand floods and storm surges, yet their failure can lead to significant human and economic losses, highlighting the need for robust urban flood defense strategies. This necessitates the development of a sophisticated geographic information system for the levee network and rapid, accurate assessment methods for levee conditions to support water management and flood mitigation efforts. This study focuses on the levees along the Hengmen waterway in the Pearl River Delta, utilizing airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology to gather 3D spatial data of the levees. Employing the Cloth Simulation Filter (CSF) algorithm, non-ground point cloud data were extracted. The study improved upon the region-growing algorithm, using a seed point set approach for the automatic extraction of levee point cloud data. The accuracy and completeness of levee extraction were evaluated using the quality index. This method achieved effective extraction of four levee types, showing significant improvements over traditional algorithms, with extraction quality ranging from 72% to 83%. Key research outcomes include the development of a novel method for detecting localized levee depressions based on the computation of the variance of angles between normal vectors in single-phase levee point cloud data. An adaptive optimal neighborhood approach was utilized to accurately determine the normal vectors, effectively representing the local morphology of the levee point clouds. Applied in three levee depression detection experiments, this method proved effective, demonstrating the capability of single-phase data in identifying regions of levee depression deformation. This advancement in levee monitoring technology marks a significant step forward in enhancing urban flood defense capabilities in regions such as the cities of the Pearl River Delta in China. Automatizing the extraction of different objects from remote sensing data with deep learning methods has been a popular research topic. Buildings have been one of those popular objects to be extracted. Not only does the selection of neural network affect the results and accuracy of extracted buildings, but also the selection of different types of data for the task. Digital surface models (DSMs) are increasingly used in remote sensing and their demand has increased. Retrieving height information from surface models has proved helpful for accurate extraction of buildings. In this study was investigated, if the use of light detection and ranging (LiDAR) DSMs and DEMs with 25 cm pixel resolution will lead to more accurate building extraction results in comparison to the use of aerial DSMs. Results with UNet models trained with building vector labels, DSMs, DEMs and true orthophotos from multiple areas of Finland, were produced with different data combinations from two Finnish cities, Savonlinna and Pudasj¨arvi, to see, which combination would lead to the most accurate building detection results. Results were evaluated partly by visual inspection, and partly by quantitative assessment. Based on the tests carried out, combining the information from true orthophotos with LiDAR DSMs and 25 cm DEMs provided the most accurate results. In forest area, using LiDAR data increased the accuracy of building detection. However, in urban area, due to missing buildings from LiDAR data, its advantages were compromised. The density of the built environment is growing due to the migration from rural areas to urban areas. The challenges that should be addressed are therefore increased in today's built environment. In relation to this, the productive use of underground space is essential to overcome the problems on the surface. Since the built environment has complex and multi-layered buildings more than ever, the delineation and management of the cadastral rights, restrictions, and responsibilities (RRRs) are significantly difficult in two-dimensional (2D). For this reason, creating approaches for the efficient representation of RRRs in three-dimensional (3D) is a hot topic in recent years. Considering the multifaceted structure of the underground, 3D geoinformation regarding the underground is needed for managing the underground space. Regarding this, it is significant to underline that legal and administrative namely land administration considerations are integral parts of the planning of underground space. Urban areas are known to modify the spatial pattern of precipitation climatology. Existing observational evidence suggests that precipitation can be enhanced downwind of a city. Among the proposed mechanisms, the thermodynamic and aerodynamic processes in the urban lower atmosphere interact with the meteorological conditions and can play a key role in determining the resulting precipitation patterns. In addition, these processes are influenced by urban form, such as the impervious surface extent. This study aims to unravel how different urban forms impact the spatial patterns of precipitation climatology under different meteorological conditions. We use the Multi‐Radar Multi‐Sensor quantitative precipitation estimation data products and analyze the hourly precipitation maps for 27 selected cities across the continental United States from the years 2015–2021 summer months. Results show that about 80% of the studied cities exhibit a statistically significant downwind enhancement of precipitation. Additionally, we find that the precipitation pattern tends to be more spatially clustered in intensity under higher wind speed; the location of radial precipitation maxima is located closer to the city center under low background winds but shifts downwind under high wind conditions. The magnitude of downwind precipitation enhancement is highly dependent on wind directions and is positively correlated with the city size for the south, southwest, and west directions. This study presents observational evidence through a cross‐city analysis that the urban precipitation pattern can be influenced by the urban modification of atmospheric processes, providing insight into the mechanistic link between future urban land‐use change and hydroclimates. Plain Language Summary: Previous studies have shown that cities can influence the spatial rainfall patterns, and one of the strongest influences is that the precipitation tends to increase over downwind of city areas. The goal of this study is to understand how different urban forms impact rainfall spatial patterns under different weather conditions. We analyze the hourly precipitation accumulation data from Multi‐Radar Multi‐Sensor for a selected set of 25 cities across the continental United States from the years 2015–2021 summer months. The results indicate that more than 80% of the studied cities have a significant increase of rainfall in downwind regions. Many cities in coastal areas are prone to typhoon disasters due to their location on the Pacific storm path, and the direct effect of catastrophic winds can lead to the destruction of low-rise buildings and severe damage to high-rise structures. The purpose of this study was to enhance the understanding of boundary layer wind profiles of strong typhoons in coastal areas and reduce property losses and casualties caused by wind disasters. Based on the field measurements of wind profile acoustic radar in coastal areas, the variation characteristics of the boundary layer wind profile during the passage of super typhoon Lekima were first studied in depth, and the evolution law of the typhoon boundary layer profile was summarized. Then, the effects of typhoon horizontal structure, topography, wind speed, and time distance on the characteristics of the typhoon profile were discussed, respectively. Finally, the evolution characteristics of wind profile parameters were obtained by fitting three wind profile theoretical models. Due to the strong variability of typhoon profile morphology, the theoretical model of wind profile is only applicable to the wind profile from the bottom to the low-level jet height of typhoons, while wind parameters are closely related to the spatial location of the typhoon wind field. Climate change threatens human survival and development. Cities, as the main gathering places for human production and life, serve as the focal points for the implementation of the policies related to energy efficiency, energy transition, and environmental protection. This study constructs an index system for the evaluation of carbon-neutral cities from the perspectives of carbon sources and carbon sinks. The system includes thirteen indicators under six dimensions. It combines objective and subjective data (i.e., statistical data and expert evaluations) by integrating two approaches: the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (fuzzy AHP) and vise kriterijumska optimizacija i kompromisno resenje with hesitant fuzzy sets (HFS-VIKOR). We verify the efficacy of the proposed approach through a case study of thirteen low-carbon pilot cities in China. The results indicate that among these cities, Shenzhen performs the best, followed by Guangzhou and Hangzhou, while Kunming, Baoding, and Tianjin show poor performance in terms of carbon neutrality. Kunming and Baoding exhibit shortcomings mainly in carbon sources, while Tianjin faces deficiencies in both carbon sources and carbon sinks. Sensitivity analysis and comparative analysis show the availability and effectiveness of the proposed method. In the past years various methods have been developed to estimate high-resolution solar potential in urban areas, by simulating solar irradiance over surface models that originate from remote sensing data. In general, this requires discretisation of solar irradiance models that estimate direct, reflective, and diffuse irradiances. The latter is most accurately estimated by an anisotropic model, where the hemispherical sky dome from arbitrary surface's viewpoint consists of the horizon, the circumsolar and sky regions. Such model can be modified to incorporate the effects of shadowing from obstruction with a view factor for each sky region. However, state-of-the-art using such models for estimating solar potential in urban areas, only considers the sky view factor, and not circumsolar view factor, due to high computational load. In this paper, a novel parallelisation of solar potential estimation is proposed by using General Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU). Modified anisotropic Perez model is used by considering diffuse shadowing with all three sky view factors. Moreover, we provide validation based on sensitivity analysis of the method's accuracy with independent meteorological measurements, by changing circumsolar sky region's half-angle and resolution of the hemispherical sky dome. Finally, the presented method using GPPGU was compared to multithreaded Central Processing Unit (CPU) approach, where on average a 70x computational speedup was achieved. Subsidence refers to the gradual lowering or sudden sinking of the ground surface and is known to impact human lives in terms of damages to the infrastructures, utility lines, and buildings as well as changes in the surficial drainage systems and groundwater conditions. The impacts of land subsidence will be greater in the future, considering the sea level rise, population growth, intensification of coastal erosion and extreme events, as well as increase in flood risk or freshwater salinization, mostly in coastal cities. The main aim of this work is to provide an open-source, peer-reviewed, and comprehensive database identifying the main and secondary causes of land subsidence in 143 coastal cities. We highlight the potential impacts of subsidence that are still unknown in some at-risk cities and non-existence of mitigation measures. The database additionally shows that mitigation measures, specifically those addressing subsidence due to groundwater extraction, have proven successful in the past. The proposed database aims to increase the knowledge on the subsidence phenomenon and also global awareness of land subsidence issues among researchers, the scientific community, stakeholders, and policymakers in terms of urban planning and development. The deployment of intelligent transportation is still in its early stages and there are many challenges that need to be addressed before it can be widely adopted. Autonomous vehicles are a class of intelligent transportation that is rapidly developing, and they are being deployed in selected cities. A combination of advanced sensors, machine learning algorithms, and artificial intelligence are being used in these vehicles to perceive their environment, navigate, and make the right decisions. These vehicles leverage extensive data sourced from various sensors and computers integrated into the vehicle. Hence, massive computational power is required to process the information from various built-in sensors in milliseconds to make the right decision. The power required by the sensors and the use of additional computational power increases the energy consumption, and, hence, could reduce the range of the autonomous electric vehicle relative to a standard electric car and lead to additional emissions. A number of review papers have highlighted the environmental benefits of autonomous vehicles, focusing on aspects like optimized driving, improved route selection, fewer stops, and platooning. However, these reviews often overlook the significant energy demands of the hardware systems—such as sensors, computers, and cameras—necessary for full autonomy, which can decrease the driving range of electric autonomous vehicles. Additionally, previous studies have not thoroughly examined the data processing requirements in these vehicles. This paper provides a more detailed review of the volume of data and energy usage by various sensors and computers integral to autonomous features in electric vehicles. It also discusses the effects of these factors on vehicle range and emissions. Furthermore, the paper explores advanced technologies currently being developed by various industries to enhance processing speeds and reduce energy consumption in autonomous vehicles. Quantum sensing technologies provide future cities with unimaginable techniques for solving their complex problems. Quantum sensors, through the utilization of quantum effects such as superposition, entanglement, and tunneling, can provide an unmatched level of sensitivity, precision, and durability against traditional sensing technologies. This study explores the potential applications of quantum sensing in four critical urban infrastructure domains: water, energy, transport, and construction. Throughout this study, we determine the most promising quantum sensing technologies for each domain. Besides, we discuss the technical progress of these sensors and the advantages they have in comparison with classical devices, as well as the organizational issues cities can face when implementing these sensors. Our results indicate that quantum sensing will be a critical enabler of future smart cities, generating advanced monitoring, control, and decision-making capabilities across various sectors. Climate change in the Mediterranean region is evidenced by an increase in average air temperature and a variation in rainfall regime: the value of cumulated annual rainfall seems to be basically constant, however, rainfall of maximum intensity and short duration, between 1 and 24 hours, is increasing, especially in the period between late summer and early autumn. The associated ground effects in urban areas consist of flash floods and pluvial floods, often in very small areas, depending on the physical-geographical layout of the region. In the context of global warming, it follows that it is important to have an adequate monitoring network for these rain events, which are highly concentrated in space and time. This research analyzes the meteo-hydrological features of August 27th and 28th 2023 event that occurred in Genoa, just 4 days after the record maximum air temperature recorded: between 19UTC and 02UTC nearly 400 mm of rainfall was recorded in the eastern sector of Genoa's historic center, with significant ground effects such as flooding and overflowing in pressurized culverted waterways. Rainfall observations and estimates were taken using both official or "authoritative" networks (rain gauges and meteorological radar) as well as rain gauge networks inspired by citizen science principles. The combined analysis of the observations by authoritative and "citizen science" networks highlights, for the analyzed event, a spatial variability of the precipitation field for the hourly and sub-hourly duration, which cannot be captured by the current spatial density of the authoritative measurement stations (which it is also among the highest in Italy). Monthly total rainfalls and maximum intensity and short duration annual maxima time series recorded by the authoritative rain gauge network of the Genoa area are then analyzed. Results show that at distances even less than 2 km the variations in average rainfall depth cumulated over sub-hourly duration are very significant. Thus, extreme weather monitoring activity is confirmed as one of the most important aspects in terms of flood prevention and protection in urban areas. The surface deformation caused by tectonic activities and anthropogenic factors poses a great threat to cities worldwide. The investigation and monitoring of these deformations are crucial in order to create risk analysis for the future. The problem in this case is to investigate the surface deformations and their negative effects caused by groundwater use and to identify possible landslide areas. In this study, the surface deformations in Hatay province were analyzed using SBAS-InSAR. The results from these analyses were evaluated by field observations. Sentinel-1 descending (183 datasets) and ascending (147 datasets) track geometries were selected to determine the surface deformation and its temporal evolution. Both east-west and vertical surface deformations were calculated, and the surface deformation profiles, surface 3D models and time series were created. These time series were associated with monthly precipitation data. The deformation area was interpreted with regard to available well-log data and geological setting of the study area. As a result of the study, a surface deformation resembling a bowl like structure was observed in the industrial zone located in the city center of Hatay-Güzelburç. The deformation rates are approximately 22.3 cm/year in the form of subsidence, 3.6 cm/year in the form of eastern movement and 10.1 cm/year in the form of western movement. The deformation of this bowllike structure decelerated in the winter and accelerated in the summer due to excessive water use. The average monthly precipitation dataset supports these results. The stratigraphic data from water wells and the presence of limestone outside the eastern boundary of the deformation area show a thick clay layer in the eastern block of the bowl-shaped deformation structure. The difference between these two units, which causes a sharp anomaly at the eastern border of the deformation area, is interpreted as a probable normal fault. The second study area where surface deformations are observed is the landslide zone. The deformation was found to be 7.5 cm/year in a westward direction and 1.5 cm/year as subsidence. Amidst escalating urbanization and increasing extreme climatic events, strengthening flood resilience strategies in global cities has become imperative. This study introduces an innovative spatiotemporal urban flood simulation model that seamlessly integrates diverse refined and multi-spatiotemporal scales, ranging from 7.5 to 60 min and 100–2000 m, respectively. The model comprises multi-scale radar rainfall inversion (MRI), fine-grained coupled flood simulation model (FGCFS), and transformer-CNN flood prediction (TCFP) modules. Employing the Nanjing urban area as a case study, the model's efficacy is subjected to rigorous assessment. The advantages derived from integrated refinement coupling and boundary conditions through FGCFS and TCFP are accentuated. Impressively, the results underscore the robust performance of radar rainfall inversion across most scales, revealing a correlation coefficient surpassing 0.8 and a root-mean-square error of under 5.2 mm. FGCFS achieves optimal simulated water depth changes at 7.5 min × 500 m resolution, with the Nash efficiency coefficient exceeding 0.69 (0.94 at YS observation point and 0.89 at SXM observation point), alongside percentage deviations below 12.89 (3.59 at SXM observation point and 2.42 at XJL observation point). TCFP's learning proficiency is showcased through error convergence to 0.002 m after twenty iterations, particularly suitable for resolutions below 4 m. Notably, both FGCFS and TCFP demonstrate efficient utilization of resources, enabling streamlined simulations across varying data resolutions. Consequently, our study propels a sophisticated framework harmonizing multi-scale data integration, refinement coupling, and dynamic allocation. As a carrier of multi-industrial technology integration and the key to industrial competition, the intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) has been taken seriously around the world. However, as a fast-growing emerging industry, its development process varies greatly from place to place. Hence, the merits and demerits are analyzed for the development of the ICV industry in different cities scientifically and to clarify the development of different links in each city, this paper suggests an extensive assessment framework integrating rough set theory and projection pursuit-based computation to systematically assess and thoroughly evaluate the level of competitiveness of the ICV industry. First, through big data text analysis technology, we constructed a "5 + 24" two-tier evaluation index system composed of 24 level-II evaluation indexes as well as five level-I evaluation indexes and selected 19 typical cities as input data for the comprehensive evaluation system. Further, the Adaptive Random Forest based Crossover Tactical Unit (ARF-CTU) algorithm is proposed for evaluating the performance of the industrial vehicle industry. However, the ARF algorithm is employed to estimate the lowering of overfitting issues and handling of high dimensional data. Moreover, the continuously varying conditions are analyzed by CTU. Then, we constructed a comprehensive evaluation system in the rough set theory and projection pursuit: (I) Quoting the rough set non-decision-making algorithm for attribute reduction, that is, under the premise of unchanged classification ability, derive a new evaluation system, and calculate the index weight and score based on the new system. This research aims to foster social sustainability by allowing residents to participate in community decisions and creating a sense of belonging. Utilizing the photoelicitation technique, we conducted a visual preference survey with an average of 457 participants in Sweden to assess the physical and urban features of local development projects. The composite assessment of built environment quality was based on 11 qualities: urban planning, building mass configurations, building orientation, parking planning, roof articulation, building materials, color scheme, entrance articulation, fenestration, and balcony articulation and placement. We conducted a subjective qualitative analysis and quantitative evaluation of the photoelicitation data. The study identified the most preferable features leading to the highest rankings, presented a novel method to increase the participatory process's efficacy, and developed an assessment matrix based on the quality ranking of the 12 features. The primary outcome was the development of methods for knowledge transfer and quality assessment of built projects in Nordic cities, with a focus on putting residents' voices front and center in urban development. Since the 1970s oil boom, nations surrounding the Arabian Gulf have witnessed rapid coastal urbanization, which accelerated in the early 2000s with the emergence of large-scale coastal 'mega-projects' designed to accommodate growing populations, attract international investments, and promote tourism. This development surge has had profound environmental impacts, including significant habitat modification, land use and land cover (LULC) change, and increased environmental pressure. Remote sensing (RS) technologies have become indispensable tools for monitoring these changes, offering costeffective and non-intrusive methods to map and assess coastal zones. However, RS applications across the Arabian Gulf have been spatially limited, often focusing narrowly on specific cities or habitats while neglecting the broader geographical and coastal dimensions of urbanization. This study addresses this gap by conducting a systematic review of peer-reviewed RS literature from 1971 to 2022, covering the coastal regions of the eight nations bordering the Arabian Gulf. A total of 186 publications were categorized into three focal areas: 1) coastal urbanization and LULC, 2) coastal and marine habitats, and 3) environmental pressures and state changes. The results reveal a significant increase in RS studies in recent years, with around two-thirds of the publications (64.3%) appearing between 2016 and 2022. Studies predominantly focused on environmental pressures and state changes (35%), followed by habitat modification (27%), and coastal urbanization (20%). Geographically, RS research primarily concentrated on the coasts of the southern Gulf (UAE and Qatar) and western Gulf (Bahrain and Saudi Arabia), where major urban centers are located, while the northern Gulf (Kuwait and Iraq) and Iranian coast have been less studied. The systematic review highlights the need for integrated RS and GIS-based monitoring systems that combine different sources of RS data and in situ measurements to evaluate the Gulf as a unified system. Expanding spatial coverage, enhancing temporal analysis, and fostering regional collaboration are necessary to improve the understanding and management of coastal urbanization and environmental changes in the Arabian Gulf. Several cities are facing an increasing flood risk due to the coupled effect of climate change and urbanization. Non-structural protection strategies, such as Early Warning Systems (EWSs), have demonstrated significant potential in mitigating hydraulic risk and often become the primary option when the implementation of structural measures is impeded by the complexities of urban environments. This study presents a new EWS designed specifically for fluvial floods in the city of Palermo (Italy), which is crossed by the Oreto River. The system is based on the preliminary definition of various Flood Event Scenarios (FESs) as a function of typical precursors, such as rainfall forecasts, and antecedent wetness and river flow conditions. Antecedent conditions are derived from real-time water stage observations at an upstream river section, while rainfall forecasts are provided by the Italian National Surveillance Meteorological Bulletins with a preannouncement time of up to 36 h. An innovative feature of the system is the use of rainfall Depth–Duration Thresholds to predict the expected hydrograph peak, significantly reducing warning issuing times. A specific FES, immediately accessible from a pre-built library, can be linked to any combination of precursors. Each FES predicts the timing and location of the first points of flooding; flood-prone areas and water depths; and specific hazard maps for elements typically exposed in cities, such as people, vehicles, and buildings. The Olympic Games are a sporting event and a catalyst for urban development in their host city. In this study, we utilized remote sensing and GIS techniques to examine the impact of the Olympic infrastructure on the surface temperature of urban areas. Using Landsat Series Collection 2 Tier 1 Level 2 data and cloud computing provided by Google Earth Engine (GEE), this study examines the effects of various forms of Olympic Games facility urban planning in different historical moments and location typologies, as follows: monocentric, polycentric, peripheric and clustered Olympic ring. The GEE code applies to the Olympic Games that occurred from Paris 2024 to Montreal 1976. However, this paper focuses specifically on the representative cases of Paris 2024, Tokyo 2020, Rio 2016, Beijing 2008, Sydney 2000, Barcelona 1992, Seoul 1988, and Montreal 1976. The study is not only concerned with obtaining absolute land surface temperatures (LST), but rather the relative influence of mega-event infrastructures on mitigating or increasing the urban heat. As such, the locally normalized land surface temperature (NLST) was utilized for this purpose. In some cities (Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, and Barcelona), it has been determined that Olympic planning has resulted in the development of green spaces, creating "green spots" that contribute to lower-than-average temperatures. However, it should be noted that there is a significant variation in temperature within intensely built-up areas, such as Olympic villages and the surrounding areas of the Olympic stadium, which can become "hotspots." Therefore, it is important to acknowledge that different planning typologies of Olympic infrastructure can have varying impacts on city heat islands, with the polycentric and clustered Olympic ring typologies displaying a mitigating effect. This research contributes to a cloud computing method that can be updated for future Olympic Games or adapted for other mega-events and utilizes a widely available remote sensing data source to study a specific urban planning context. Introduction: Buildings that collapse or are damaged by earthquakes are responsible for the majority of earthquake-related casualties. High-precision building data are the key to improving the accuracy of risk assessments of earthquake disaster loss. Many countries and regions have also proposed varying regional building exposure models, but most of these models are still based on administrative-level (city or county) statistical data; furthermore, they cannot accurately reflect the differences among buildings in different towns or villages. Methods: Although field investigation-based "township to township" methods can obtain more accurate building inventory data, considering costs and timeliness, remote sensing and other diverse data should be combined to acquire building data. Based on the field survey data of three cities in shanxi Province, combined with Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) data, this study is conducted on building inventory data. Data regarding the proportion of each building type and corresponding lethality level in each township are obtained based on the classification of building height, and the overall lethality level at the building level and township level is calculated on this basis. Results: The fitting results between the calculated results and the field survey results are good, the error is within 0.15, and the fitting R2 values of Xian, Baoji and Ankang are 0.6552, 0.5788 and 0.5937, respectively. Therefore, an earthquake disaster loss risk assessment is conducted based on the building level. Discussion: The findings indicate that the risk of casualties caused by the same building type can vary by city. Generally, the areas with high disaster loss risk in the three cities are distributed mainly in urban areas; the disaster loss risk in the newly built areas of each city is relatively low. According to the quantitative assessment results for each city, Xi'an has the highest loss risk, while Baoji and Ankang have the same loss risk. Based on the method constructed in this paper, we can realize the quantitative assessment of earthquake disaster loss risk at the building level to better target pre-earthquake emergency preparation and post-earthquake auxiliary decision-making. Energy consumption has risen much more while the economy has expanded so quickly. As a result, significant environmental contamination is created, which causes public worry. Under this background, enhancing energy efficiency and lowering pollution is particularly crucial for the fulfillment of sustainable economic development. Efficiency evaluation for energy and environment is an effective measure to achieve both energy saving and emission reduction as well as sustainable social development. In this paper, energy and environmental efficiency consists of energy utilization efficiency and pollution treatment efficiency. An improved two‐stage DEA model is proposed, which takes into account how stochastic and environmental factors affect decision‐making units (DMUs). Finally, the author analyses the panel data of 15 cities in Southwest China from 2010 to 2018, which proves the feasibility and effectiveness of this study. The results show Southwest China's poor energy and environmental efficiency as well as the stark differences among its cities. The scientific value revealed by this paper is as follows: (1) for the study of energy and environmental efficiency, this paper is more targeted at the differences between cities and (2) using an improved two‐stage DEA model to consider the effects of stochastic factors on DMUs. Anthropogenic heat emissions, which are quantified as anthropogenic heat flux (AHF), have attracted significant attention due to their pronounced impacts on urban thermal environments and local climates. However, there remains a notable gap in research regarding the distinctions in the distribution of anthropogenic heat emissions (AHEs) along urban–rural gradients. To address this gap, the present study introduces a new concept—the anthropogenic urban heat island (ArUHI)—where the AHF within urban areas is higher than that in background areas. To quantitatively describe the magnitude and spatial extent of the ArUHI effect, two metrics—namely, ArUHI intensity (ArUHII) and ArUHI footprint (ArUHIFP)—are introduced. We conducted a comprehensive study across 208 cities in China to investigate the spatiotemporal patterns of AHF variations along urban–rural gradients during the period of 2000–2016. In addition, we explored how the complex interactions between land cover and building form components affect changes in the AHF along urban–rural gradients. Additionally, we analyzed how economic zones and city sizes alter the ArUHI intensity and ArUHI footprint. The results showed that 97% (201/208) of Chinese cities exhibited a significant ArUHI effect from 2000 to 2016. The modeled ArUHI intensity value exhibited a substantial increase of nearly fivefold, increasing from 5.55 ± 0.19 W/m2 to 26.84 ± 0.99 W/m2 over time. Regarding the spatial distribution of the ArUHI footprint, the analysis revealed that, for the majority of cities (86% or 179 out of 208), the ArUHI footprint ranged from 1.5 to 5.5 times that in urban areas. City sizes and economic zones yielded significant influences on the ArUHI intensity and ArUHI footprint values. Building forms were significantly positively correlated with AHF, with R2 values higher than 0.94. This study contributes to the understanding of ArUHI effects and their driving factors in China, providing valuable insights for urban climate studies and enhancing our understanding of surface urban heat island mechanisms. Accurate traffic prediction is crucial for urban planning, especially in rapidly growing cities. Traditional models often struggle to account for sudden traffic pattern changes, such as those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Neural networks offer a powerful solution, capturing complex, non-linear relationships in traffic data for more precise prediction. This study aims to create a neural network model for predicting vehicle numbers at main intersections in the city. The model is created using real data from the sensors placed across the city of Zilina, Slovakia. By integrating pandemic-related variables, the model assesses the COVID-19 impact on traffic flow. The model was developed using neural networks, following the data-mining methodology CRISP-DM. Before the modelling, the data underwent thorough preparation, emphasising correcting sensor errors caused by communication failures. The model demonstrated high prediction accuracy, with correlations between predicted and actual values ranging from 0.70 to 0.95 for individual sensors and vehicle types. The results highlighted a significant pandemic impact on urban mobility. The model's adaptability allows for easy retraining for different conditions or cities, making it a robust, adaptable tool for future urban planning and traffic management. The quality and stability of the ecological environment are inevitable requirements of sustainable development, and previous studies have confirmed that digital economy and technological innovation have a positive enabling effect on the ecological environment. Against the background, clarify the current coordinated development relationship and level of digital economy, technological innovation, and ecological environment (DTE), and put forward policy recommendations to promote the coordinated development. This paper utilizes China's provincial panel data from 2013 to 2020 to construct a measurement index system for the levels of development in the digital economy, technological innovation, and ecological environment. The coupling coordination model is applied to evaluate the coordination relationship and level of the DTE system. Additionally, a principal component factor analysis is conducted to examine the driving factors of collaborative development level. Results show that (1) the coupling coordination relationship continues to improve, especially in cities like Guangzhou, Beijing, and Zhejiang. In 2020, most of the DTE systems' coupling coordination in China's 30 provinces were in the basic coordination stage. (2) Besides Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and other economically developed cities that lag behind in ecological environment, the rest lag in technological innovation. (3) The economic development level, technological innovation ability, and environmental forcing mechanism are the main driving forces for the development of the coupling and coordination degree of the DTE system in Chinese provinces and cities. Some of the most notable human behavioral palimpsests result from warfare and its durable traces in the form of defensive architecture and strategic infrastructure. For premodern periods, this architecture is often understudied at the large scale, resulting in a lack of appreciation for the enormity of the costs and impacts of military spending over the course of human history. In this article, we compare the information gleaned from the study of the fortified cities of the Early Historic period of the Indian subcontinent (c. 3rd century BCE to 4th century CE) with the precolonial medieval era (9-17th centuries CE). Utilizing in-depth archaeological and historical studies along with local sightings and citizen-science blogs to create a comprehensive data set and map series in a "big-data" approach that makes use of heterogeneous data sets and presence-absence criteria, we discuss how the architecture of warfare shifted from an emphasis on urban defense in the Early Historic period to an emphasis on territorial offense and defense in the medieval period. Many medieval fortifications are known from only local reports and have minimal identifying information but can still be studied in the aggregate using a least-shared denominator approach to quantification and mapping. Background: In resource-based cities, long-term irrational exploitation of resources has caused severe damage to ecosystem functions, mainly manifested in the significant decline of biodiversity, land degradation, water pollution, and the deterioration of air quality. This has led to a significant decline in the cities' sustainable development capabilities. Establishing and optimizing an ecological spatial network (ESN) can promote the effective transmission of material energy and enhance the ecosystem functions, which holds fundamental importance in ensuring the ecological integrity of the region and promoting sustainable urban development. In this study, by combining the ecological environment with the landscape to determine the ecological sources, we constructed the ESN of Shenmu City, a mining city, based on the minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model, and conducted a correlation analysis between the topological structure of the ESN and the significance of ecosystem functions. Then, the optimization strategy scheme based on ecosystem functions was proposed. Finally, robustness was used to determine the effect before and after optimization. Results: The results showed that the high-value ecosystem service areas in Shenmu City were predominantly located in the central and western parts, with the highest value in the southeast. There was a strong correlation between the importance of ecosystem functions and the degree and feature vector of ecological nodes. Conclusions: The ESN can be optimized effectively by adding stepping stone nodes and new corridors. Through the robustness of the optimized ESN, we found that the optimized network has more robust connectivity and stability and can show better recovery ability after ecological function damage. This research presents an effective method for the construction and optimization of the ESN in the mining area and provides a theoretical basis for realizing the sustainability of the mining economy, regional development, and ecological protection in Shenmu City. With the progress of the times, cars have become an important means of transportation in our lives. However, with new cars of all kinds, road safety issues still cannot be effectively improved. While countries have responded by enforcing traffic laws and using electronic technology to enhance enforcement, challenges still need to be addressed, including blurred images and misjudgments by police agencies, and even exploiting loopholes in traffic enforcement frameworks to evade consequences through bribery or connections. exacerbating an accident and leaving victims and families in the lurch of the aftermath. To solve this problem, we proposed a data traceability law enforcement system based on blockchain and InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). The system ensures rapid traceability and protects law enforcement data from external attacks. The goal of leveraging blockchain's decentralized nature and smart contracts is to instill accountability and fairness in road safety measures, mitigate the effects of corruption, and pave the way for a safer and more just transportation environment. Our experimental results show that under our stress test of 50 transactions per second, the throughput can be as high as 300 and the maximum delay can reach 2.01s, which is enough to experimentally prove that our system is feasible. Our approach is designed to solve the data corruption problem caused by the centralized server being paralyzed. It applies to all technology enforcement, with high flexibility and scalability for all participants to join or set privileges. we also provide an automated traffic law enforcement system in a smart city. To make the data storage more secure and fair, and not easily damaged by malicious people or tampered with by intentional attackers. This brings a breakthrough to the country's program security. We introduce University of Texas - GLObal Building heights for Urban Studies (UT-GLOBUS), a dataset providing building heights and urban canopy parameters (UCPs) for more than 1200 city or locales worldwide. UT-GLOBUS combines open-source spaceborne altimetry (ICESat-2 and GEDI) and coarse-resolution urban canopy elevation data with a machine-learning model to estimate building-level information. Validation using LiDAR data from six U.S. cities showed UT-GLOBUS-derived building heights had a root mean squared error (RMSE) of 9.1 meters. Validation of mean building heights within 1-km2 grid cells, including data from Hamburg and Sydney, resulted in an RMSE of 7.8 meters. Testing the UCPs in the urban Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF-Urban) model resulted in a significant improvement (55% in RMSE) in intra-urban air temperature representation compared to the existing table-based local climate zone approach in Houston, TX. Additionally, we demonstrated the dataset's utility for simulating heat mitigation strategies and building energy consumption using WRF-Urban, with test cases in Chicago, IL, and Austin, TX. Street-scale mean radiant temperature simulations using the SOlar and LongWave Environmental Irradiance Geometry (SOLWEIG) model, incorporating UT-GLOBUS and LiDAR-derived building heights, confirmed the dataset's effectiveness in modeling human thermal comfort in Baltimore, MD (daytime RMSE = 2.85°C). Thus, UT-GLOBUS can be used for modeling urban hazards with significant socioeconomic and biometeorological risks, enabling finer scale urban climate simulations and overcoming previous limitations due to the lack of building information. As cities continue to grow globally, characterizing the built environment is essential to understanding human populations, projecting energy usage, monitoring urban heat island impacts, preventing environmental degradation, and planning for urban development. Buildings are a key component of the built environment and there is currently a lack of data on building height at the global level. Current methodologies for developing building height models that utilize remote sensing are limited in scale due to the high cost of data acquisition. Other approaches that leverage 2D features are restricted based on the volume of ancillary data necessary to infer height. Here, we find, through a series of experiments covering 74.55 million buildings from the United States, France, and Germany, it is possible, with 95% accuracy, to infer building height within 3 m of the true height using footprint morphology data. Our results show that leveraging individual building footprints can lead to accurate building height predictions while not requiring ancillary data, thus making this method applicable wherever building footprints are available. Rapid morphological and socioeconomic changes have accelerated the urbanization process and urban land use transformation in China. Megacities comprise clusters of urban cities and exhibit both newly formed and well-developed urban land use development beyond administrative boundaries. It is necessary to distinguish the changing effects of spatial-varying driving factors on newly formed urban land uses from well-developed built-up areas in megacities. This study proposed a multi-spatial urbanization framework to quantify region-level socioeconomics, cluster-level ecological morphologies, and grid-level urban functional morphologies. A three-level Bayesian hierarchical model was developed to investigate the impacts of multi-spatial driving factors on urban land use transformation in megacities. The study period focused on the urbanization process between 2000 and 2018 in Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Results revealed that compared with well-developed urban built-up land, changing impacts of three-level driving factors in urban land use transformation could be captured based on the proposed Bayesian hierarchical model. The region-level total population was associated with increasing possibilities in forming new residential land than the well-developed ones in 35 districts/counties/cities in GBA. Cluster-level ecological attributes with higher proportion, lower edge density of urban built areas, and lower-degree ecological complexity showed increasing probability on newly formed industrial and public land. Grid-level urban functional factors including public transportation density and shopping/dining distribution exhibited significantly decreasing probability (coefficients: −2.12 to −0.51) on contributing newly formed land uses compared with the well-developed areas, whereas business/industry distribution represented higher (coefficients: 0.99 and 0.15) and lower probabilities (coefficient: −0.22) of forming industrial/public land and residential land separately. An examination of a few examples of aquifer use shows the importance and fragility of groundwater, with poor management leading to overextraction by individuals and authorities producing subsidence - sinking cities. Freshwater is one of our most precious resources and it is rapidly disappearing, leading to global drying. At the same time, the global and urban populations are increasing, with civil unrest increasing due, in part, to freshwater shortages. The increasing global population and global urbanisation are driving an increase in water use, restriction of aquifer recharge and increased aquifer pollution. It is argued that urban population growth with attendant increased water use, combined with climate change and poor management, is significant in water stress. Particular attention must be paid to the effect of rising populations on local water resources, especially groundwater, and the knock-on effect on urban sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The co-agglomeration of the digital economy industry and manufacturing is significant for addressing issues such as being "large but not strong" and "comprehensive but not refined" in China's manufacturing sector. This study uses 269 cities in China from 2006 to 2022 as the research sample, innovatively employing data from digital economy enterprises and manufacturing enterprises to measure industrial co-agglomeration, and comprehensively analyzes the mechanism of how the inflow of digital talents influences the co-agglomeration of the digital economy industry and manufacturing. The findings are as follows: (1) From 2006 to 2022, the inflow of digital talents and the level of co-agglomeration between the digital economy industry and manufacturing in Chinese cities have consistently risen, generally moving towards higher inflow and higher levels of co-agglomeration. However, the inflow of digital talent in the central and western regions is relatively low, with most cities still facing difficulties due to inadequate policy support and resource investment. Industrial co-agglomeration exhibits characteristics of "core–periphery", "multi-core agglomeration", and "gradient diffusion" coexisting. (2) The flow of digital talents can significantly promote the co-agglomeration of the digital economy industry and manufacturing, and this conclusion remains valid after robustness testing. The flow of digital talents drives the co-agglomeration of the digital economy industry and manufacturing by enhancing the level of digital technology innovation, promoting the spillover and flow of digital knowledge, increasing the entrepreneurial activity of urban digital economy enterprises, and upgrading industrial structures. Furthermore, digital economy policies play a regulatory role in this process. (3) The promotion effect of digital talent inflow is more pronounced in low- and mid-end manufacturing, high-grade cities, well-developed digital infrastructure, and non-resource-based cities. By contrast, this effect is relatively weaker in high-end manufacturing and low-grade cities. In cities with weak digital infrastructure and resource-based cities, this effect is not significant. (4) The inflow of digital talents and the co-agglomeration of digital economy industry and manufacturing have a significant promotion effect on cities with similar economic development levels and adjacent geographical locations, demonstrating a positive diffusion effect.
