Accurately predicting the next track point of vehicle travel is crucial for various Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications, such as travel behavior studies, traffic control, and traffic congestion monitoring. Recent works on trajectory prediction follow a paradigm that first represents the raw trajectory and subsequently makes predictions based on that representation. Currently, trajectory representation methods tend to project trajectory points to road networks by map matching and represent trajectories based on the representation of matched roads. However, precisely matching trajectories to roads is a challenge in ITS, as the matching precision is greatly affected by the quality of the trajectory. Meanwhile, since it is difficult to discern whether trajectory matching results are accurate or confounded, how to effectively utilize this type of uncertain geographic context information is also a challenge, which is defined as the Uncertain Geographic Context Problem (UGCoP) in geographic information science. Therefore, we propose a flexible strategy of subgraph learning, referred to as SLM, for predicting the next track point of vehicles. Specifically, a subgraph generation module is first proposed to extract topology contextual information of the roads around historical trajectory points. Secondly, a subgraph learning module is designed to learn rich spatial and temporal features from generated subgraphs. Finally, the extracted spatiotemporal features will be fed into a prediction module to predict the next track points of vehicles on road networks. Our model enables the effective utilization of uncertain geographic context information of trajectories on road networks while avoiding the error brought by map matching. The advent of connected automated vehicles (CAVs) will introduce new possibilities for traffic management as it provides a wide variety of data that can be used by traffic network and fleet operators. Much of this data will be generated passively by vehicles and the infrastructure and exchanged between stations via wireless communication, i.e., Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X). This paper introduces a V2X-based traffic management approach based on slot management for vehicles. These slots are used to control the route choice and trajectory planning of CAVs over multiple organizational levels. After introducing the central principles that the management system model is based on, we test two lane change approaches for CAVs in order to derive rules for generating and controlling slots. A basic set of rules was defined that foremost resulted from evaluating the lane change behaviour of CAVs. The evaluation of the lane changes shows that omitting deviations in the driving behaviour of CAVs yields non-optimal results concerning traffic flow parameters, especially under highly congested conditions. The study utilized a two-pronged approach, involving an online survey and follow-up phone interviews with respondents from state transportation agencies, tollway authorities, and law enforcement. Methods: The initial step involved conducting an online survey to gather general insights about the existing strategies and practices used to combat WWD. The survey questionnaire, consisting of 12 questions, covered topics such as mitigation strategies/policies, guidance for selecting countermeasures, and topics/needs for national handbook. The survey was emailed to traffic and safety engineers from all 50 state transportation agencies and 59 tollway authorities across the nation. As the second step, follow-up phone interviews were conducted with respondents identified from the online survey. The interviews delved deeper into specific aspects such as crash/incident data collection methods, identification of crash-prone locations, countermeasure selection and implementation, experience with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications, and future initiatives. Results: The findings from the survey and interviews indicated an increasing awareness and adoption of best practices to combat WWD. Various states have implemented new policies and advanced technologies to deter WWD incidents. Macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD)-based perimeter control has a potential to improve traffic throughput and relieve the overall congestion. In practice, not only the MFD but also the traffic demand suffers from a variety of inherent uncertainties. Hence, this paper aims to contrive a robust control technique to address the perimeter traffic flow control issue in the oversaturated region. To this end, an integral sliding mode control is proposed to drive the traffic state to the desirable condition. The developed strategy deals with practical issues such as finite time stability and range of uncertainty in both MFD and traffic demand. Theoretical analysis verifies that the developed integral sliding mode control approach can guarantee the finite time convergence of the traffic state to the desired one. The performance of the developed scheme is attested by considering various traffic scenarios with uncertain MFDs and traffic demand, in which a comparative performance study with the proportional and integral control method is conducted. It is indicated that the developed scheme can alleviate the congestion in the urban network and improve the throughput of the urban network. Practical Applications: The research presented in this article proposes a novel perimeter control technique designed to enhance traffic flow management in densely populated urban road networks, particularly during peak congestion times. Traffic control through video/image processing is a trending research topic within Intelligent Transportation Systems. The number of moving vehicles, the density of vehicles at the junctions, traffic anomalies, and traffic flow directly influence real-time traffic congestion. The primary goal of this work is to design an architecture that is simple and fast enough to use in real-time heterogeneous traffic scenes. The proposed methodology uses user-defined zones for determining vehicle occupancy and count based on traffic surveillance video. The angular integral projection function accompanies the background subtraction method for better localization. Traffic anomaly detection is implemented by incorporating intelligent sensor technology. Also, the skipping of frames at fixed intervals has increased the processing speed with minimal data loss. The compatibility with any Internet Protocol camera further distinguishes this approach from other state-of-the-art methods. The proposed algorithm has been tested on a publicly available traffic surveillance video dataset and real-time surveillance feeds. Experimental results from the real-time intersection scenes show an overall accuracy of 97.14% and an average processing speed of 92.91%. Efficient traffic signal management is crucial for regulating traffic flow and fostering sustainable development within road transportation systems. To address the challenges in traffic management, numerous studies have applied the Adaptive Traffic Signal Control (ATSC) technology, using Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to decrease vehicles' average waiting times. Nonetheless, the intricate nature of DRL, characterized by its extensive parameter connections, often complicates the assurance of real-time responsiveness. Additionally, by prioritizing reduced waiting times, these methods may overlook potential rises in queue lengths, risking congestion. In this paper, we propose an Efficient Double Broad Reinforcement Learning (E-DBRL) algorithm based on a Double Broad Q-Network (Double BQN) to alleviate the overestimation of action values common in Broad Reinforcement Learning (BRL). To enhance the Quality of Experience (QoE) of drivers, we develop a new reward function that optimizes the average waiting time and the range between the longest and shortest waiting times, thus avoiding the need for dimension normalization. Moreover, we conduct simulation experiments using actual traffic data collected from Hangzhou, China. The experimental results indicate that, compared to the traditional Double DQN, the proposed E-DBRL algorithm achieves a 45.78% reduction in the average training time per round and a 5.57% increase in the average rewards. How to accurately predict short-term traffic travel time (TTT) is an important problem in intelligent transportation systems. Traffic data usually exhibit high non-linearities and complex patterns, and predicting TTT is a challenge. Most previous studies have used the topological adjacency of road networks to explore spatial correlations. However, a real road network contains higher-order connectivity patterns that have different statistical significance. The topology adjacency cannot reflect these higher-order connectivity patterns. To obtain topological adjacency and higher-order connection pattern information, a novel deep-learning framework (multi-motif graph convolutional recurrent neural networks) for TTT prediction is proposed. The accuracy of TTT prediction was improved with this model. There are two blocks in each unit of the model: (a) spatial blocks, which capture spatial pattern information by the multi-motif graph convolution network and motif graph embedding, and (b) temporal blocks, which capture temporal pattern information by the combination of a long short-term memory network and a fully connected layer. In urban system management and public safety, accurate traffic flow forecasting is pivotal for real-world applications such as traffic control, resource-sharing scheduling platforms, and intelligent transportation systems. The challenge lies in effectively capturing complex spatio-temporal correlations. To address this, we introduce ST-DSTN, a novel spatial-temporal fusion attention-based deep neural network that significantly advances the current state-of-the-art. ST-DSTN utilizes three distinct temporal branches to capture temporal dependencies and a convolutional neural network to encapsulate spatial dependencies. Our innovative contribution includes a spatio-temporal fusion attention module, effectively modeling the dynamic spatio-temporal dependencies of traffic data, thus improving upon existing methods. Additionally, we propose a hierarchical fusion method that permeates the entire model, capturing complex correlations at various levels through multi-level fusion. Our comprehensive experiments on the BikeNYC dataset demonstrate ST-DSTN's superior performance, supported by numerical results that substantiate its improvement over current methods, surpassing the DeepSTN+ model by 4.31%. Reducing the speed of the vehicle can reduce the risk and severity of the collision. Automatic means of vehicle traffic operation control, such as automatic speed cameras, is one of the main methods to solve traffic violations such as speeding. This study takes the actual operation of the automated hardware complex for vehicle traffic control in the Russian Federation as the research objective, and discusses the impact of the application of automated hardware complex for vehicle traffic control on traffic safety. In the process of building the automated traffic flow monitoring system of urban agglomeration, it is necessary to form a set of methodology to evaluate the hardware complex of traffic infrastructure. According to the research results of the influence of vehicle traffic automation and control system on road safety, a model, method and algorithm were developed to evaluate the efficiency of automated hardware complex for vehicle traffic control. The relevant factors introduced into the intelligent transportation system for the overall evaluation of the application efficiency of the vehicle traffic operation control automation hardware complex were determined. A life cycle model of automated hardware complex for vehicle traffic operation control was established to evaluate its operation efficiency in the development stage of intelligent transportation system, and on this basis, the maneuverability standard of urban agglomeration traffic monitoring system management is determined. The results show that the number of hardware complexes used in vehicle traffic operation control has a positive impact on the road traffic accident rate. It is suggested that the standard of one hardware complex for every 6.5 thousand registered vehicles in this area should be used as an indicator of the equipment level of the integrated automated system for vehicle traffic control in this area. Connected and autonomous driving technologies offer a novel solution for intersection control optimization. Connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) can access signal plans and optimize trajectories to minimize delays and reduce fuel consumption. However, optimizing trajectories for individual vehicles significantly increases complexity, especially for joint optimization of traffic signals and vehicle trajectories. Given the current technical, regulatory, and policy constraints, a superior intersection management approach is necessary before fully automated driving is achieved. This paper introduces an adaptive coupling control (ACC) method based on vehicle platooning to optimize signal timings and vehicle trajectories in mixed traffic. Initially, vehicle platoon segmentation is conducted, led by CAVs. The study then proposes a single‐layer coupled optimization model based on vehicle platoons, simplifying the joint optimization model. To address logistic constraint difficulties, a linearization of the coupled model (LCM) method is developed. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the ACC method significantly reduces vehicle delay and fuel consumption. At high CAV penetration rates (0.8 < R <1) and high traffic volumes (over 900 pcu/h), vehicle platoon control delivers excellent performance, with delays and fuel consumption even lower than in a fully automated environment (R = 1). Explicit signal coordination carries prior knowledge of traffic engineering and is widely accepted for global implementation. With the recent popularity of reinforcement learning, numerous researchers have turned to implicit signal coordination. However, these methods inevitably require learning coordination from scratch. To maximize the use of prior knowledge, this study proposes an explicit coordinated signal control (ECSC) method using a soft actor–critic for cycle length determination. This method can fundamentally solve the challenges encountered by traditional methods in determining the cycle length. Soft actor–critic was selected among various reinforcement learning methods. A single agent was administered to the arterials. An action is defined as the selection of a cycle length from among the candidates. The state is represented as a feature vector, including the cycle length and features of each leg at every intersection. The reward is defined as departures that indirectly minimize system vehicle delays. Simulation results indicate that ECSC significantly outperforms the baseline methods, as evident in system vehicle delay across nearly all demand scenarios and throughput in high demand scenarios. In urban areas, emergency vehicles (EVs) need efficient traffic signal preemption to ensure timely responses during peak hours. While emergency vehicle traffic signal preemption (EVTSP) has garnered significant attention in the literature, the issues of queue spillbacks and negative impacts on non‐priority traffic have been relatively underreported. These issues are particularly critical during peak hours, notably in densely populated urban areas. This study presents an EVTSP system that considers queue spillbacks on approaches along the routes of EVs and the negative impacts of signal preemption on non‐priority traffic. The proposed control system has four key components: (1) a queue length management algorithm to ensure that an EV will not be impeded by excessive queues, particularly on its initial approaches along its route; (2) a signal preemption algorithm to guarantee uninterrupted passage of an EV even for approaches experiencing queue spillbacks; (3) a traffic status recovery algorithm to alleviate the extra waiting time for non‐priority vehicles after an EV crosses each intersection; and (4) a signal plan recovery algorithm to smoothly transit traffic signals to normal operation. The economic impact of inefficient traffic control systems is significant owing to prolonged commute durations, and increased energy consumption. Traffic signal control systems (TSCSs) significantly influence traffic flows at intersections. Therefore, adaptive TSCSs (ATSCSs) that can adjust to traffic conditions in real‐time have been proposed as more efficient alternatives. However, the expensive implementation of these systems highlights the need for judicious investments in appropriate technologies and infrastructure. Therefore, a comprehensive technology roadmap should be built that guides the future development of traffic control and the infusion of technologies to address traffic needs. Additionally, as ATSCSs are developed and managed by local governments, the perspective of a government‐led technology roadmap is required to guide the roadmap development and implementation. Although studies have explored technology roadmaps across numerous sectors, the viewpoint of roadmap development guided by government entities is frequently neglected despite the role of these entities in shaping technological policies, underwriting research and development initiatives, and driving nationwide innovation strategies. In this study, a comprehensive framework is proposed for developing technology roadmaps tailored for systems and technologies led by governmental entities. This framework has been adapted from the Advanced Technology Roadmap Architecture (ATRA) and brought original adjustments thereby addressing the research gap. The study also presents strategic recommendations for the ATSCS implementation in South Korea, integrating systems engineering principles for a holistic approach to technological advancements. This article presents an integrated educational module for undergraduate traffic engineering at the microscale level. When dealing with a complex transportation system, the education program should cultivate students' acquisition of both in‐depth traffic specialization and breadth of engineering knowledge. For the educational instruction of the signal phase design, this article presents an integrated design that includes several engineering subjects: signal phase design, circuits and electronics, and object‐oriented programming (OOP). Due to the lengthy evolution of signal phase design and the high‐end industrial standards for this issue, this well‐structured problem requires an instructional design to adopt a worked example that integrates varied engineering domains. The integrated design session is intended to deliver education through designing a miniature signal controller while creating an immersive situation and encouraging social teamwork. Global urbanization and increasing traffic volume have intensified traffic congestion throughout transportation infrastructure, particularly at toll plazas, highlighting the critical need to implement proactive transportation infrastructure solutions. Traditional toll plaza management approaches, often relying on manual interventions, suffer from inefficiencies that fail to adapt to dynamic traffic flow and are unable to produce preemptive control strategies, resulting in prolonged queues, extended travel times, and adverse environmental effects. This study proposes a proactive traffic control strategy using advanced technologies to combat toll plaza congestion and optimize traffic management. The approach involves deep learning convolutional neural network models (YOLOv7–Deep SORT) for vehicle counting and an extended short-term memory model for short-term arrival rate prediction. When projected arrival rates exceed a threshold, the strategy proactively activates variable speed limits (VSLs) and ramp metering (RM) strategies during peak hours. The novelty of this study lies in its predictive and adaptive capabilities, ensuring efficient traffic flow management. Validated through a case study at Ravi Toll Plaza Lahore using PTV VISSIMv7, the proposed method reduces queue length by 57% and vehicle delays by 47% while cutting fuel consumption and pollutant emissions by 28.4% and 34%, respectively. Additionally, by identifying the limitations of conventional approaches, this study presents a novel framework alongside the proposed strategy to bridge the gap between theory and practice, making it easier for toll plaza operators and transportation authorities to adopt and benefit from advanced traffic management techniques. Machine learning (ML) methods, particularly Reinforcement Learning (RL), have gained widespread attention for optimizing traffic signal control in intelligent transportation systems. However, existing ML approaches often exhibit limitations in scalability and adaptability, particularly within large traffic networks. This paper introduces an innovative solution by integrating decentralized graph-based multi-agent reinforcement learning (DGMARL) with a Digital Twin to enhance traffic signal optimization, targeting the reduction of traffic congestion and network-wide fuel consumption associated with vehicle stops and stop delays. In this approach, DGMARL agents are employed to learn traffic state patterns and make informed decisions regarding traffic signal control. The integration with a Digital Twin module further facilitates this process by simulating and replicating the real-time asymmetric traffic behaviors of a complex traffic network. The evaluation of this proposed methodology utilized PTV-Vissim, a traffic simulation software, which also serves as the simulation engine for the Digital Twin. The study focused on the Martin Luther King (MLK) Smart Corridor in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, by considering symmetric and asymmetric road layouts and traffic conditions. Comparative analysis against an actuated signal control baseline approach revealed significant improvements. Experiment results demonstrate a remarkable 55.38% reduction in Eco_PI, a developed performance measure capturing the cumulative impact of stops and penalized stop delays on fuel consumption, over a 24 h scenario. In a PM-peak-hour scenario, the average reduction in Eco_PI reached 38.94%, indicating the substantial improvement achieved in optimizing traffic flow and reducing fuel consumption during high-demand periods. These findings underscore the effectiveness of the integrated DGMARL and Digital Twin approach in optimizing traffic signals, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient traffic management system. With the increasing number of urban vehicles, as well as the current situation of non-intelligent traffic control systems, spatiotemporal non-uniform traffic resource occupation, and limited traffic planning and design, existing urban traffic planning methods cannot effectively solve problems such as frequent traffic congestion and uncontrollable commuting time for residents. In order to solve the above problems, this paper first constructs a multi-queue, multi-server queuing model based on the server vacation and a multi-hop cascaded queuing model from the perspective of local intersections and global commuting paths. We analyze the theoretical changes in passage delay costs at local intersections and on global commuting paths as a function of traffic flow and the random duration of traffic signals. On this basis, this article proposes a collaborative intelligent traffic planning algorithm based on artificial intelligence, which utilizes traffic sensors to dynamically perceive traffic congestion status and collaboratively plans the optimal duration of traffic signals and the optimal driving path of vehicles from both local and global perspectives, thereby maximizing the on-time arrival ratio of vehicles while ensuring the required commuting delay. The simulation results show that the proposed method can increase the on-time arrival ratio of vehicles by at least 20% compared to contrast methods while meeting the requirements relating to commuting delays. License plate detection is an important task in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and has a wide range of applications in vehicle management, traffic control, and public safety. In order to improve the accuracy and speed of mobile recognition, an improved lightweight YOLOv5s model is proposed for license plate detection. First, an improved Stemblock network is used to replace the original Focus layer in the network, which ensures strong feature expression capability and reduces a large number of parameters to lower the computational complexity; then, an improved lightweight network, ShuffleNetv2, is used to replace the backbone network of the YOLOv5s, which makes the model lighter and ensures the detection accuracy at the same time. Then, a feature enhancement module is designed to reduce the information loss caused by the rearrangement of the backbone network channels, which facilitates the information interaction in the feature fusion process; finally, the low‐, medium‐ and high‐level features in the Shufflenetv2 network structure are fused to form the final high‐level output features. Experimental results on the CCPD dataset show that compared to other methods this paper obtains better performance and faster speed in the license plate detection task, in which the average precision mean value reaches 96.6%, and can achieve a detection speed of 43.86 frame/s, and the parameter volume is reduced to 5.07 M. Summary: Road accidents and traffic congestion are the unavoidable consequences of the growing number of vehicles on the road. Conventional management systems are not effective in mitigating these issues. However, a range of technologies, including sensors, processors, vehicle‐based resources, and mobile cloud computing, can help solve traffic and safety problems. Vehicular cloud networks, a cutting‐edge technology for the development of intelligent transportation systems, face significant challenges, such as ensuring reliable service providers that maintain stable connections between vehicles. Roadside units (RSUs) play a crucial role in these networks, but they come with several drawbacks, including high costs, imbalanced load distribution, and unreliable connections. To address these issues, we propose the Traffic Control and Safety in Vehicular Networks (TCaS‐VN) algorithm, a cloud‐based sharing services framework for vehicles that eliminates the need for RSUs. This approach offers several advantages, including a twofold improvement in the lifetime of clusters, the elimination of noncluster head nodes, a 54% reduction in overhead, a 58% reduction in service search time, and a success rate of over 95% in service provisioning. Traffic lights are crucial for urban traffic management, as they significantly impact congestion reduction and travel safety. Traditional methods relying on hand-crafted rules and operator experience are limited in their ability to adapt to changing traffic environments. To address this challenge, we have been exploring intelligent traffic light control using deep reinforcement learning techniques. However, current approaches often suffer from inadequate training data and unstable training processes, leading to suboptimal performance and real-world consequences. In this study, we propose RELight, a novel random ensemble reinforcement learning-based traffic light control framework. RELight effectively utilizes collected empirical data, ensuring a stable and efficient training process. To evaluate the performance of our proposed framework, we conducted a comprehensive set of experiments on a variety of datasets, including four synthetic datasets and a real traffic dataset collected from surveillance cameras at an intersection in Hangzhou, China. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) have emerged as an efficient solution for enhancing road utilization efficiency, ensuring convenient and safe transportation, and reducing energy consumption. This research addresses the challenging problem of accurately estimating road traffic congestion from videos recorded in low visibility and adverse weather conditions such as rainy, overcast, and sunny weather. To solve this problem, we propose a method based on the use a custom Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) that we have designed and trained to classify nighttime road traffic videos into three distinct categories. To train and test this DCNN, we used nighttime videos from the UCSD (University of California San Diego) public dataset. For comparison, we have also tested a second method, which uses an existing CNN that we have trained on the same dataset to classify road traffic into the same three categories. The performances of the two methods were assessed and compared using the UCSD nighttime dataset. The first method achieves an impressive Correct Classification Rate (CCR) of 98.91%, which is higher than the 96.18% CCR achieved by the second method. These rates surpass the 89.47% state-of-the-art CCR obtained with this dataset. This exceptional precision in estimating road traffic congestion in challenging low visibility conditions is achieved thanks to the integration of advanced deep learning techniques and CNNs. In urban traffic management, the primary challenge of dynamically and efficiently monitoring traffic conditions is compounded by the insufficient utilization of thousands of surveillance cameras along the intelligent transportation system. This paper introduces the multi-level Traffic-responsive Tilt Camera surveillance system (TTC-X), a novel framework designed for dynamic and efficient monitoring and management of traffic in urban networks. By leveraging widely deployed pan–tilt-cameras (PTCs), TTC-X overcomes the limitations of a fixed field of view in traditional surveillance systems by providing mobilized and 360-degree coverage. The innovation of TTC-X lies in the integration of advanced machine learning modules, including a detector–predictor–controller structure, with a novel Predictive Correlated Online Learning (PiCOL) methodology and the Spatial–Temporal Graph Predictor (STGP) for real-time traffic estimation and PTC control. The TTC-X is tested and evaluated under three experimental scenarios (e.g., maximum traffic flow capture, dynamic route planning, traffic state estimation) based on a simulation environment calibrated using real-world traffic data in Brooklyn, New York. The experimental results showed that TTC-X captured over 60% total number of vehicles at the network level, dynamically adjusted its route recommendation in reaction to unexpected full-lane closure events, and reconstructed link-level traffic states with best MAE less than 1.25 vehicle/hour. Microscopic traffic flow modeling is crucial for predicting future traffic demand and optimizing the design of transportation systems. At the microscopic level, a well-crafted model is capable of describing the interactions and dynamic variations among vehicles with greater accuracy. The cell scale in the classical cellular automaton (CA) multi-lane traffic flow model is a critical parameter to accurately express the location relationship of vehicles. In this paper, a new method based on Symmetric Two-lane Cellular Automaton (STCA), entitled STCA-X, is proposed for the cell scale selection. Firstly, the position, velocity, acceleration, and interaction of vehicle operation in the urban multi-lane environment are analyzed, and a feature model is built based on CA. One important drawback of the existing models is that they do not match the vehicle movement in the actual lane. To handle this problem, a fine-scale CA multi-lane model is developed. Secondly, a new traffic flow model is created by redefining several key behaviors such as road following, lane changing, and blocking in the STCA model. The experimental results are analyzed and compared with several of the state-of-the-art methods. Analysis of the simulation results proves that STCA-X improves vehicle lane change frequency and lane utilization efficiency. However, the enhancements in the model have resulted in increased computational complexity. Effective traffic control methods have great potential in alleviating network congestion. Particularly, in an urban network consisting of heterogeneous roads (e.g., freeways and urban roads), how to integrate and coordinate control policies on different roads is a critical issue in large-scale networks. This study addresses this question from two aspects: modeling and control. From the modeling aspect, we formulate the hybrid traffic modeling in heterogeneous networks with the Asymmetric Cell Transmission Model (ACTM) for freeways and the generalized bathtub model for urban roads. For the control aspect, this study considers two representative control approaches: ramp metering for freeways and perimeter control for urban roads, and we aim to develop a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based coordinated control framework for large-scale networks. However, there are two significant challenges in the coordinated control in large-scale networks with DRL methods: non-stationary environment and large search space. To address both issues, we incorporate the demonstration to guide the DRL method for better convergence by introducing the concept of "teacher" and "student" models. The teacher models are traditional controllers that provide control demonstrations. For instance, ALINEA and Gating are two representative feedback controllers for ramp metering and perimeter control which can be "teacher" models. The student models are DRL methods, which learn from teachers and aim to surpass the teachers' performance. Additionally, we develop a parallel training scheme to accelerate the proposed DRL method. To validate the proposed framework, we conduct two case studies in a small-scale network and a real-world large-scale traffic network in Hong Kong. Numerical results show that the proposed DRL method outperforms demonstrators as well as DRL methods, and the coordinated control is more effective than just controlling ramps or perimeters respectively. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) face the formidable challenge of large-scale missing data, particularly in the imputation of traffic data. Existing studies have mainly relied on modeling network-level spatiotemporal correlations to address this issue. However, these methods often overlook the rich semantic information (e.g., road infrastructure, sensor location, etc.) inherent in road networks when capturing network-wide spatiotemporal correlations. We address this limitation by presenting the Graph Transformer-based Traffic Data Imputation (GT-TDI) model, which imputes missing values in extensive traffic data by leveraging spatiotemporal semantic understanding of road networks. The proposed model leverages semantic descriptions that capture the spatial and temporal dynamics of traffic across road networks, enhancing its capacity to infer comprehensive spatiotemporal relationships. Moreover, to augment the model's capabilities, we employ a Large Language Model (LLM) and prompt engineering to enable natural and intuitive interactions with the traffic data imputation system, allowing users to query and request in plain language, without requiring expert knowledge or complex mathematical models. The proposed model, GT-TDI, utilizes Graph Neural Networks (GNN) and Transformer architectures to perform large-scale traffic data imputation using deficient observations, sensor social connectivity, and semantic descriptions as inputs. We evaluate the GT-TDI model on the PeMS freeway dataset and benchmark it against cutting-edge models.
