Background: Concurrent Exercise Training (CET) is defined as an exercise training mode in which aerobic and resistance exercises are performed in the same session. Objectives: The effects of CET in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are inconclusive. Therefore, the objective of the present systematic review with a meta-analysis is to evaluate the effects of CET on metabolic markers, body composition, lipid profile, inflammation, and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in people with T2DM. Methods: Five electronic databases were searched from inception up to January 2023. The eligibility criteria included prospective studies that had T2DM participants aged between 35 and 65 years who performed CET at least 2 times/week for a minimum duration of 8 weeks with a control group. Results: Seven studies were identified for qualitative review. Sufficient data were not available for one study, therefore, meta-analysis was performed in six studies. A significant effect was observed in glucose level (p <.01); glycated hemoglobin (p =.02); Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (p =.02); body mass index (p =.02); %body fat (p <.01); %fat-free mass (p <.01); waist circumference (p =.03); triglyceride (p <.01); peak oxygen uptake (p <.01); and tumor necrotic factor -α (p <.01). Conclusions: The CET is effective in improving metabolic markers, body composition, lipid profile, inflammation, and CRF in people with T2DM and can be included in the management of T2DM. Lipids participate in many important biological functions through energy storage, membrane structure stabilization, signal transduction, and molecular recognition. Previous studies have shown that patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) have abnormal lipid metabolism. However, studies characterizing lipid metabolism in ESCC patients through lipidomics are limited. Plasma lipid profiles of 65 ESCC patients and 42 healthy controls (HC) were characterized by lipidomics-based ultraperformance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS). Single-factor and multi-factor statistical analysis were used to screen the differences in blood lipids between groups, and combined with component ratio analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve diagnostic efficiency assessment, to reveal the potential mechanisms and biomarkers of ESCC. There were significant differences in lipid profiles between the ESCC and HC groups. Thirty-six differential lipids (11 up-regulated and 25 down-regulated) were selected based on the criteria of p <.05 and fold change > 1.3 or < 0.77. Glycerophospholipids were the major differential lipids, suggesting that these lipid metabolic pathways exhibit a significant imbalance that may contribute to the development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Among them, the seven candidate biomarkers for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma with the highest diagnostic value are three phosphatidylserine (PS), three fatty acids (FA) and one phosphatidylcholine (PC). Few studies have reported the cardiovascular health effects of different high-intensity interval training (HIIT) protocols among sedentary young women. We investigated the impact of a traditional HIIT programme and a high-intensity circuit training (HICT) programme on lipid profiles and inflammatory cytokine levels in sedentary young women. Forty-two women were randomly assigned to HICT (body weight-based training), HIIT (cycling-based training), or control groups (n = 14 each). HICT and HIIT participants completed an 8-week training programme of three sessions per week. Total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride, high- and low-density lipoprotein, leptin, resistin, tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-8, and interferon-gamma levels were measured before and after the intervention. Post-intervention, TC and leptin were decreased in the HICT group. The HICT group also demonstrated increased lean mass, upper and lower limb strength, and balance, while the HIIT group displayed improved lower limb strength. Additionally, the control group showed significant increases in triglyceride levels, weight, body mass index, and fat mass. In conclusion, although both HICT and HIIT interventions showed improvements in cardiovascular health and physical fitness, participants in the HICT group experienced more health benefits.
