With the advent of the post-Moore's Law era, the development of traditional silicon-based computers has reached its limit, and there is an urgent need to develop new computing technologies to meet the needs of science, technology, and daily life. Due to its super-strong parallel computing capability and outstanding data storage capacity, DNA computing has become an important branch and hot research topic of new computer technology. DNA enzyme-free hybridization reaction technology is widely used in DNA computing, showing excellent performance in computing power and information processing. Studies have shown that DNA molecules not only have the computing function of electronic devices, but also exhibit certain human brain-like functions. In the field of artificial intelligence, activation functions play an important role as they enable artificial intelligence systems to fit and predict non-linear and complex variable relationships. Due to the difficulty of implementing activation functions in DNA computing, DNA circuits cannot easily achieve all the functions of artificial intelligence. DNA circuits need to rely on electronic computers to complete the training and learning process. Based on the parallel computing characteristics of DNA computing and the kinetic features of DNA molecule displacement reactions, this paper proposes a new activation function. This activation function can not only be easily implemented by DNA enzyme-free hybridization reaction reactions, but also has good nesting properties in DNA circuits, and can be cascaded with other DNA reactions to form a complete DNA circuit. This paper not only provides the mathematical analysis of the proposed activation function, but also provides a detailed analysis of its kinetic features. Prospective composites, based on graphene (G) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanoparticles, synthesized using a plasma jet and conducting polymer PEDOT:PSS, were used to create and study a set of sensors in the current study. The composites used were G:PEDOT:PSS (GPP) and G:h-BN:PEDOT:PSS (GBNPP). The PEDOT:PSS content in the composites was 10−3 wt%, and the ratio of G : h-BN was 1 : 1 in GBNPP. The development of these new highly conductive graphene-based composites makes it possible to create an active sensor layer with an ultra-low thickness of several nanometers. The ultra-high sensitivity of the current response, S, was ((2.0–3.3) × 106)% for GPP and GBNPP (2–3 printing layers) for a humidity range of 20–80%. The sensor response in the form of current pulses associated with human breathing has a range of ∼2–3 orders of magnitude. Two different processes are assumed to determine the form of the current pulse: the first is a fast process with a rise time of less than 1–4 seconds; the second is a relatively slow process with a front time of several tens of seconds. When touching with a finger (useful, for instance, for a flexible touchpad), a current response was observed as pulses of ∼2–3 orders of magnitude. We hypothesize that skin sweat is likely to play a critical role in the sensory response. Thus, this work presents an effective approach to creating a highly sensitive humidity sensor based on composite 2D materials. In this paper, a novel type of tunable ultra-wide band and double-narrow band artificial electromagnetic absorption device is studied. This work uses a titanium nitride–titanium–tungsten (TiN–Ti–W) composite ring array, a TiN reflector layer, and a silver–titanium dioxide–silver (Ag–TiO2–Ag) three layer composite structure to prepare the absorption layer. The simulation results illustrate that the absorption rate can reach 96.6% when the absorption wavelength is 300–2800 nm. When the light source is backward incidence, ultra-narrow band absorption can occur at specific wavelengths of 465 nm and 932 nm. This proves that the absorber is in good agreement with the impedance matching theory. In this study, a rare-earth hybrid luminescent material (lanthanide@COF) was constructed for the detection of a biomarker for anthrax (dipicolinic acid, DPA). JCU-505-COOH was prepared by the hydrolysis of the cyano group in JCU-505 via a post-synthetic modification strategy, then the carboxyl groups in JCU-505-COOH coordinated with Tb3+ ions, similar to pincer vising nut. The prepared Tb3+@JCU-505-COOH exhibited a turn-on response toward DPA, which allowed the lanthanide@COF to serve as a fluorescence sensor with excellent selectivity and high sensitivity (binding constant Ka = 3.66 × 103). The fluorescent probe showed satisfactory performance for the determination of DPA in saliva and urine with a detection limit of 0.6 μM. Moreover, we established a facile point-of-care testing (POCT) using the Tb3+@JCU-505-COOH-based fluorescent test paper together with a smartphone for the initial diagnosis of anthrax. Fluorescent polymer nanoparticles have received considerable attention over the past few decades, because of their various responses to physical and/or chemical stimuli, showing great potential for their applications in chemosensing and anticounterfeiting. Nowadays, the fabrication and development of polymer chemosensors with multi-responsivity to multiple chemical targets are highly considered. In this study, (co)polymers with well-controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions were synthesized via reverse atom transfer radical polymerization. Fluorescent polymer nanoparticles with the ability to sense pH, CO2, acidic and basic vapors, and polarity were prepared by physical incorporation of fluorescein via a facile nanoprecipitation method. Morphological studies showed that these smart nanoparticles have a spherical shape with an average size of lower than 150 nm. UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy analyses showed that the variation of pH, incorporation of CO2 into the aqueous medium, and variation of the polarity of polymers changed the intensity ratio of absorption and emission wavelengths. The fluorescent nanoparticles were printed on biocompatible cellulosic papers, which showed different fluorescence emissions at various pH values and also upon exposure to acidic/basic vapors. There is much interest in developing new energy storage systems to replace currently available ones that mainly work based on Li-ion intercalations. One attractive area is the Li–air battery for which most of the research has involved liquid electrolytes. There have been few studies on the use of a solid electrolyte in a Li–air battery. Recently, we reported the successful use of a solid-state electrolyte in a Li–air battery resulting in a Li2O product and potentially much higher energy density than in a Li–air battery based on either a Li2O2 or LiO2 product (Science, 2023, 379, 499). In this paper we discuss how the discharge mechanism involved in this solid-state Li–air battery differs from that of a Li–air battery with a liquid electrolyte. The solid-state mechanism is further explored with density functional studies of various interfaces involving the discharge product. In this paper, Tesla coil discharge (TCD) was combined with laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). The TCD successfully enhanced the emission of Al atomic lines and AlO molecular bands in Al LIBS, and improved the sensitivity of quantitative analysis of Cr and Pb elements detected by LIBS in water. Firstly, the paper explored the effect of the distance from the TCD tip to the sample surface on the emission of Al atomic lines and AlO molecular bands, finding that 5 mm was the optimal distance. Secondly, the paper investigated the effect of laser energy on the emission of Al atomic lines and AlO molecular bands, finding that 25.1 mJ was the optimal laser energy. Finally, the paper constructed the calibration curves of Cr and Pb elements in water and calculated the limit of detection (LoD), finding that compared with surface enhanced LIBS (SELIBS), TCD–SELIBS reduced the LoDs of Cr and Pb elements from 16.7 ng mL−1 and 12.2 ng mL−1 to 7.3 ng mL−1 and 5.5 ng mL−1, respectively. It indicated that the combination of TCD and SELIBS can achieve high-sensitivity detection of Cr and Pb elements in the water. The combination of TCD and LIBS is a simple, low-cost, easy-to-operate, industrialized and commercialized technology, and has a promising application prospect in the high-sensitivity analysis of heavy metals in water. In this paper, we present Raman imaging as a non-invasive approach for studying changes in mitochondrial metabolism caused by cardiolipin–cytochrome c interactions. We investigated the effect of mitochondrial dysregulation on cardiolipin (CL) and cytochrome c (Cyt c) interactions for a brain cancer cell line (U-87 MG). Mitochondrial metabolism was monitored by checking the intensities of the Raman bands at 750 cm−1, 1126 cm−1, 1310 cm−1, 1337 cm−1, 1444 cm−1 and 1584 cm−1. The presented results indicate that under pathological conditions, the content and redox status of Cyt c in mitochondria can be used as a Raman marker to characterize changes in cellular metabolism. This work provides evidence that cardiolipin–cytochrome c interactions are crucial for mitochondrial energy homeostasis by controlling the redox status of Cyt c in the electron transport chain, switching from disabling Cyt c reduction and enabling peroxidase activity. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the quality of 13 batches of rice and 17 batches of paddy. Differential scanning calorimetry curves, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy and electrochemical curves of 30 batches of rice and paddy were collected, and this paper utilized the quantitative fingerprints evaluated by using the systematic quantitative fingerprinting method, macro qualitative similarity (S m) and macro quantitative similarity (P m) to reflect the internal differences of the samples. A new quality assessment method was explored to quantify the obtained fingerprint profiles and to compare the correlation between the original fingerprints and the quantum fingerprints using a t-test. Using the parameters S m and P m as analysis criteria, hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA), orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) and the equal-weight integrated evaluation method were used to evaluate the quality of the four analysis methods. Transition metal sulfides have attracted much attention due to their excellent electrochemical properties. However, their preparation process often requires multiple steps to be completed, which poses difficulties for their application. In this paper, a NiCo2S4(NCS)@NiCo-LDH material was successfully prepared as the cathode material for the prepared supercapacitor by a one-step hydrothermal method using a MOF as a sacrificial template. The electrode material exhibits good electrochemical performance due to the regular microstructure with abundant active sites. The electrode material exhibits a specific capacitance as high as 4191.25 mF cm−2 in the three-electrode system at a current density of 2 mA cm−2. This is much higher than the sum of the capacitances of the NiCo2S4 and NiCo-LDH materials. To further validate its practical application, it was assembled with an activated carbon negative electrode to prepare a high-performance supercapacitor with a scalable voltage window of up to 1.6 V. The device was able to maintain 90% capacity retention after 5000 cycles and showed excellent performance. NMR spectroscopy is one of the most potent methods in analytical chemistry. NMR titration experiments are particularly useful since they measure molecular binding affinities and other concentration-dependent effects. These experiments, however, require a long series of measurements. An alternative to these serial measurements has recently been presented, exploiting a pH (or generally – a concentration) gradient along the NMR tube. The proposed experiment, although efficient, was based on the sensitivity- and hardware-demanding chemical shift imaging (CSI) method. Thus, it is practically limited to high-resolution NMR spectrometers. This paper proposes modifying and adapting the approach to the popular and cost-efficient benchtop NMR machines. Instead of CSI, we use a device that shifts the NMR tube vertically to measure the spectra of different sample volumes, which have different pH values due to the established gradient along the tube. We demonstrate the potential of the method on the test samples of L -tyrosine and 2,6-lutidine, and two real samples from the food industry – an infant formula and an energy drink. A series of novel dual-dye-loaded tunable triple-emission colorimetric fluorescent BPEA&Rh6G@DUT-52 (B&R@D) probes was prepared using an in situ encapsulation method, in which the B&R@D6 probe achieved white fluorescence emission with CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.33, 0.32) and was used for the quenching and colorimetric detection of Fe3+ and Cr2O72− and the colorimetric detection of NO2− and IO3−. When analytes come into contact with the surface of B&R@D6, resonance energy transfer or electron transfer occurs, resulting in relative changes in the three emission peaks. Good linear relationships were established between the fluorescence intensities of the B&R@D6 probe and the concentrations of 0.025–0.5 mM (Fe3+) and 0.005–0.1 mM (Cr2O72−) with detection limits of 2.8 μM and 18.5 nM, respectively. B&R@D6 was further applied in the detection of Fe3+ and Cr2O72− in three actual water samples with recoveries ranging from 101.5% to 114.1% and 86.8% to 100.3%, respectively, showing the practical potential of this method. In addition, a B&R@D6 portable fluorescent test paper was constructed for the in situ dual-mode detection of Fe3+, Cr2O72−, NO2− and IO3−. The pyrimidine-functionalized tetrarylethylene derivatives, BTPT-2-PAo and TPT-2-PAo, were designed, synthesized and characterized. Both compounds exhibit distinct responses to various external stimuli including solvents, acids, light, and metal ions. Remarkable acidichromism and "turn-off" fluorescence are induced by protonation effects, while significant enhancement in photoluminescence resulted from photocyclization reactions. Additionally, the emission intensity of BTPT-2-PAo and TPT-2-PAo can be significantly attenuated upon interaction with Cr3+, Al3+, and Fe3+ accompanied by a color change from colorless to yellow. Job's plots confirmed the 1 : 1 stoichiometry of complex formation between them and Cr3+, Al3+, and Fe3+, respectively. Moreover, the limit of detection for these trivalent metal ions reached a magnitude of 10−7 mol L−1. Finally, we successfully demonstrated that BTPT-2-PAo and TPT-2-PAo can be utilized in test paper strips for rapid "naked-eye" detection of acid as well as M3+ (M: Cr, Al, and Fe). Therefore, the multi-response performance along with the ease of preparation endows BTPT-2-PAo and TPT-2-PAo with potential applications in fluorescence sensing of acid/metal ions and security ink. In this paper, a high performance capacitive flexible porous GO/PDMS pressure sensor was prepared based on droplet microfluidic technology. By testing the performance of the sensor, we found that the sensor with a flow rate ratio of 1 : 3 has relatively good performance, with a degree of hysteresis (DH) of 8.64% and a coefficient of variation (CV) of 5.2%. Therefore, we studied the sensor performance based on this process. The result shows that the sensitivity of the flexible capacitive porous GO/PDMS pressure sensor reached 0.627 kPa−1 at low pressure (0–3 kPa), which is significantly higher than that of the pure PDMS thin film sensor (about 0.031 kPa−1) and the porous PDMS pressure sensor (0.263 kPa−1). At the same time, the sensor has a large range with a fast response time of 240 ms and a relaxation time of 300 ms at 30 kPa and an ultra-low detection limit (70 Pa). It can maintain stable operation under continuous force loading/unloading cycles and can respond well to different pressure step changes, so the sensor can be used to detect the movement process of each finger, knee, foot and other joints of the human body. In conclusion, the droplet microfluidic technology can effectively prepare high-performance capacitive flexible porous GO/PDMS pressure sensors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
