2. Data Analysis Report; An Assessment of School-Supervised Work Education Programs.

Abstract

Data are analyzed to examine systematically different configurations of work education by means of a typology in three dimensions: educational level, primary program purpose, and industrial setting. A stratified random sample of 50 work education sites was drawn to determine the degree to which different types of programs are meeting their intended objectives. Separate interview questionnaires were used for program administrators, participating and nonparticipating employers, and participating and nonparticipating unions. Based on findings of the data analysis, eleven policy recommendations are described. Appendixes present cross tabulations by student groups and the interview questionnaires. (MS)

30. ESTIMATING THE DEGREE OF SCHIZOPHRENIC PATHOLOGY FROM RECORDED INTERVIEW SAMPLES.

Abstract

The article attempts to determine whether valid judgments of the severity of schizophrenia can be made from recorded interview material, and whether vocal cues contribute to the clinical appraisal. Judgments of relative severity of pathology were obtained from undergraduate subjects using samples of recorded interviews. It has also been demonstrated that valid judgments of schizophrenia cannot be made on the basis of expressive cues alone. Further, no effect was generated by the vocal aspects of speech when combined with the verbal content, either in facilitating judgments of pathology or in inhibiting these judgments.

Abstract

The article presents a study which examined the effects of mechanical stress on the developmental of periodontal lesions within lathyritic rats. The author defines lathyrism as a disease which affects the periodontal ligament and other connective tissues. The study results suggest that a lack of mechanical stress may account for the absence of morphological changes in the periodontal ligament.

Abstract

The article reports on methods for evaluating dental caries activity. The methods of lactobacillus count and the Snyder colorimetric test are compared using the Rogosa medium. Study participants included 1,049 Naval recruits whose saliva was taken and tested using both the lactobacillus count and the Snyder colorimetric test. It was found that the results obtained using both methods of caries evaluation are correlated.
