The article presents a discussion of the coal rush being experienced in Montana as of year 1973. The coal rush has been caused by the nationwide demands for clean energy. An estimated 16 million tons is expected to be strip mined in Montana for the said year. Strip mining is a process of tearing back the soil and rock or overburden with giant shovels to expose the coal seams. Much of the coal is being shipped to the Midwest countries. The coal has become highly desirable for its low content of sulfur, sodium and ash.
