- Abstract
The article reports on the acquisition of Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City of two rare Italian suits of miniature armour by gift from the Estate of Jermain S. Duncan. The miniature armours are dated about 1620 which are structurally accurate to the smallest detail and in almost perfect condition with only one or two minor restorations. These well-described little suits first came to the writer's notice when they were loaned by Duncan's widow for inclusion in the Loan Exhibition of European Arms and Armour which was held at the Museum in 1931. These rare miniature suits are enough to give convincing proof that they must have existed in considerable numbers during the 16th and 17th centuries. However, Charles R. Beard believed that these are used as instructive toys.
