The article discusses the way economists and writers such as Aristotle in his book "Politics," and Nicholas Oresme have used money and blood in metaphors to represent the state. This imagery was used by Christian churches and writers such as Italy's Bernado Davanzati, who stated that money could be used for good works. French philosopher Jean Bodin discussed money in his book "Six Books of a Commonweal" as the nerves of the republic, and Pierre Charron claimed that great men had to overcome greed.
