The difficulty students face in comprehending problems presented through diagrams and mathematical models, coupled with the monotony experienced during mathematics lessons, has resulted in low mathematical representation skills among students. While studies indicate that Wordwall can enhance student engagement, the specific factors influencing this engagement when utilizing Wordwall remain under-explored. This study aims to assess the impact of Wordwall media on students' mathematical representation abilities and determine the extent of this influence. Adopting a quantitative research approach with experimental methods, the researchers employed a post-test-only design using cluster random sampling. Class VII-A was designated as the experimental group, while Class VII-B was the control group. Data were gathered through a post-test essay examination. Analytical techniques involved prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) and hypothesis testing (t-test and effect size). Results indicated a significance level of 0.008 in the t-test and an effect size of 0.685, suggesting that using Wordwall media has a moderate yet significant positive effect on students' mathematical concept representation skills. The findings reveal that incorporating Wordwall edugames in classroom instruction can enhance students' mathematical representation capabilities, foster an interactive learning environment, and improve students' self-expression. Abstrak: Kemampuan representasi matematis adalah kemampuan yang penting, karena itu banyak pembelajaran yang berusaha untuk meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan hal-hal apa saja yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode Systematic Literature Review. Pencarian di jurnal terakreditasi nasional dan jurnal terindeks Scopus pada tahun 2016-2022 kemudian diseleksi secara bertahap dan sistematis menjadi 15 jurnal yang relevan dengan topik peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan representasi matematis dapat ditingkatkan melalui berbagai model, strategi, dan pendekatan di mana dalam pembelajaran harus dapat membuat siswa aktif, guru hanya berperan sebagai fasilitator, siswa belajar secara berkelompok, siswa mengkonstruksi pengetahuannya dan menemukan sendiri konsep matematika, serta guru membuat materi matematika berdasarkan hal-hal yang ada dalam kehidupan nyata. Berdasarkan artikel jurnal yang diteliti, penggunaan beberapa representasi juga memengaruhi peningkatan representasi matematis itu sendiri. Menggunakan beberapa representasi akan memunculkan hubungan antar representasi sehingga siswa pemahaman matematika siswa semakin baik. Kemampuan guru dalam penggunaan beberapa representasi juga menjadi hal yang penting agar guru dapat secara optimal mendukung siswa dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan matematika. Penggunaan media pembelajaran juga menunjang peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa.. Abstract: This study aims to identify and describe what things can be used to improve mathematical representation skills. The method used in this research is the Systematic Literature Review method. Search in nationally accredited journals and Scopus indexed journals in 2016-2022 then selected gradually and systematically into 15 journals relevant to the topic of increasing mathematical representation skills. The results of this study indicate that the ability of mathematical representation can be improved through various models, strategies, and approaches in which learning must be able to make students active, the teacher only acts as a facilitator, students study in groups, students construct their knowledge and find their own mathematical concepts, and the teacher makes mathematical material based on things that exist in real life. Based on the journals studied, the use of multiple representations also affects the increase in the mathematical representation itself. Using multiple representations will bring up the relationship between representations so that students' understanding of mathematics is getting better. The ability of teachers to use multiple representations is also important so that teachers can optimally support students in solving mathematical problems. The use of learning media also supports the improvement of students' mathematical representation abilities.

The ability of mathematical representation helps students solve mathematical problems in forms that are easy to understand and more concrete, so that they can maximize their potential for achievement in learning mathematics. The purpose of this study was to describe the mathematical representation abilities of junior high school students on the concept of congruence in terms of learning styles. The subjects of this study were 35 grade VIII junior high school students using a random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using mathematical representation ability tests, learning style questionnaires, and interviews. After that, it was analyzed using triangulation techniques to determine the validity of the data. The results showed that on average, students have very good visual representation abilities with auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles because all students can solve questions correctly according to the indicators. Students who have the ability to represent good expressions or equations have a visual learning style. Whereas students with word representation abilities cannot be said to be good because of the existing subjects, there are no students with any learning style who can solve word representation ability questions correctly. Based on this, it can be concluded that the low representation ability of students is not influenced by their learning styles, both visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, especially in the concept of congruence.

The surface area and volume of cubes and cuboids are mathematical concepts related to everyday life. However, many students need help learning this concept. This study aims to analyze the learning obstacles junior high school students encounter when solving mathematical representation problems on the concept of surface area and volume of cubes and cuboids. This study uses an interpretive paradigm which is part of Didactical Design Research (DDR). Students at one of the public junior high schools in Jambi City were given six questions related to mathematical representation after the researchers conducted classroom observations, which were then followed by interviews with students with high, moderate, and low representation abilities. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results showed that students experienced three learning obstacles: ontogenic, epistemological, and didactical. Furthermore, the results of this study can be a consideration for teachers to create learning designs for surface area and volume of cubes and cuboids that can anticipate student learning obstacles and develop students' mathematical representation abilities.

One of the important abilities that students need to master when learning mathematics is mathematical representation. This ability will improve students' understanding of concepts, principles and procedures in solving mathematical problems. But in reality, many students have difficulty in conveying their ideas to solve mathematical problems and this has an impact on students' mathematical representation. This research aims to describe the low mathematical representation of students and the factors that caused this. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Based on this research, it is known that 66.67% of class X MIPA VII students at SMA Negeri 1 Ampek Angkek have low mathematical representation in solving exponential function problems. These results show that students' representation is still low due to difficulty writing down question solving ideas to the use of incorrect settlement intuition. Salah satu kemampuan penting yang perlu dikuasai siswa saat pembelajaran matematika adalah representasi matematis. Kemampuan ini akan meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang konsep, prinsip dan prosedur dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematis. Namun kenyataannya, banyak siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menyampaikan ide-idenya untuk menyelesaikan masalah matematika dan hal tersebut berdampak pada representasi matematis siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan representasi matematis siswa yang rendah serta faktor yang menyebabkan hal tersebut terjadi. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, diketahui bahwa sebanyak 66,67% siswa kelas X MIPA VII di SMA Negeri 1 Ampek Angkek memiliki representasi matematis yang rendah dalam menyelesaikan masalah fungsi eksponensial. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa representasi siswa yang masih rendah yang diakibatkan oleh kesulitan menuliskan ide penyelesaian soal hingga penggunaan intuisi penyelesaian yang salah.

This study aims to analyze whether the Cooperative Learning type of Reciprocal Peer Tutoring (RPT) is effective in enhancing students' mathematical representation abilities, whether it is more effective than PBL in enhancing students' mathematical representation abilities, how learning styles influence students' mathematical representation abilities in Cooperative Learning type of RPT, and to describe the ability of mathematical representation in terms of learning styles in Cooperative Learning type of RPT. The research method used was a mixed method, and the design used was sequential explanatory. The sampling technique used was random sampling by class. The results showed that: (1) the ability of mathematical representation in the Cooperative Learning type of RPT achieved classical completeness; (2) the average mathematical representation ability in the Cooperative Learning type of RPT was higher than that of PBL; (3) the proportion of completeness of mathematical representation ability in Cooperative Learning type of RPT was higher than that of the PBL class, indicating that Cooperative Learning type of RPT is more effective in enhancing mathematical representation abilities; and (4) there is a positive influence of learning styles on students' mathematical representation ability in Cooperative Learning type of RPT. Subjects with visual learning styles are able to fulfill visual and verbal indicators and tend to be able to fulfill symbolic indicators. Subjects with auditory learning styles tend to be able to fulfill visual and symbolic indicators but tend to be less able to fulfill verbal indicators. Subjects with kinaesthetic learning styles are able to meet visual indicators.

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan karena di sekolah masih ada beberapa yang belum memiliki perangkat pembelajaran yang dapat memfasilitasi Kemampuan Representasi Matematis (KRM). Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini yaitu menghasilkan suatu produk berupa buku berisi silabus, RPP, dan LKPD menggunakan discovery learning dengan bahan jual dan ketidaksamaan linear satu variabel yang valid dan juga praktis dalam memfasilitasi KRM. Produk ini dapat dipergunakan pada sekolah tingkat SMP/MTs, peneliti dapat memberikan produk ini pada sekolah-sekolah. Penelitian yang diadaptasi dari model pengembangan Borg and Gall ini kemudian dilakukan dengan lima tahap yaitu studi pendahuluan, perencanaan pengembangan, pengembangan perangkat, uji coba terbatas, dan revisi produk.Instrumen penelitian yaitu lembar validasi silabus, RPP, dan LKPD, serta angket respon peserta didik. Penelitian ini melibatkan sembilan peserta didik sebagai subjek ujicoba terbatas, dan tiga dosen pendidikan matematika sebagai validator. Validator ketiga memberikan nilai yang menyatakan bahwa silabus, RPP, dan LKPD memenuhi kriteria valid dengan rata-rata skor berturut-turut 83,33%; 83,87%; dan 82, 81%. Kepraktisan LKPD juga menyatakan rata-rata 93,29% yang memenuhi kriteria sangat praktis. Hasil akhir menunjukkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran menggunakan discovery learninguntuk memfasilitasi peserta didik KRM pada materi jual beli dan ketidaksamaan linear satu variabel yang valid dan praktis dan dapat digunakan di sekolah. Penelitian ini melibatkan sembilan siswa kelas VII SMP/MTs sebagai subjek uji coba terbatas, dan tidak ada dosen pendidikan matematika sebagai validator. Hasil validasi ketiga validator menunjukkan bahwa silabus, RPP, dan LKPD valid dengan skor masing-masing 83,33%; 83,87%; dan 82,81% dengan kriteria valid. Kepraktisan LKPD menunjukkan persentase rata-rata 93,29% dengan kriteria sangat praktis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran yang digunakandiscovery learning untuk memfasilitasi kemampuan representasi matematis siswa pada materi persamaan linier dan pertidaksamaan satu variabel yang valid dan sangat praktis. Kemampuan representasi matematis berkaitan dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Representasi masalah yang sesuai adalah dasar untuk memahami masalah dan merencanakan solusinya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana kemampuan representasi matematis siswa berdasarkan tipe adversity quotient (AQ) dan self-efficacy (SE). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitiannya yaitu 5 siswa kelas XI IPA di Kota Bandung. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes kemampuan representasi, angket AQ dan SE. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes, angket, dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan tahapan reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan AQ climber dan SE sedang mampu membuat gambar untuk memperjelas masalah, menyelesaikan masalah dengan ekspresi matematis, membuat model matematika, dan menuliskan langkah penyelesaian dengan kata-kata, siswa dengan AQ camper dan SE tinggi mampu membuat gambar untuk memperjelas masalah, menyelesaikan masalah dengan ekspresi matematis, membuat model matematika, dan menyusun cerita sesuai dengan representasi yang disajikan, siswa dengan AQ camper dan SE sedang dan siswa dengan AQ camper dan SE rendah mampu menyelesaikan masalah dengan ekspresi matematis dan membuat model matematika, dan siswa dengan AQ quitter dan SE rendah tidak mampu memenuhi semua indikator kemampuan representasi. Mathematical representation ability is related to problem solving ability. An appropriate problem representation is the basis for understanding the problem and planning its solution. This study aims to describe the mathematics representation ability based on adversity quotient (AQ) and self-efficacy (SE). The study uses a case study method with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 5 students of class XI IPA in Bandung City. The instrument used were representation ability tests, AQ, and SE questionnaires. Data collection techniques using test, questionnaires, and interviews. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The result showed that student with AQ Climber and moderate SE was able to make pictures to clarify problems, solve problems with mathematical expressions, make mathematical models, and write down steps to solve them with words, student with AQ camper and high SE was able to make pictures to clarify problems, solving problems with mathematical expressions, making mathematical models, and composing stories according to the representations presented, student with AQ camper and moderate SE and student with AQ camper and low SE was able to solve problems with mathematical expressions and make mathematical models, and student with AQ quitter and low SE was not able to meet all indicators of representational ability.

This study aims to determine the mathematical representation ability of class IX students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles on the Pythagoras Theorem material at SMPN 1 (public junior high school) Gunungsari Indonesia in the 2021/2022 academic year. This type of research is descriptive with a quantitative approach. The populations in this study were all students of class IX SMPN 1 Gunungsari. The research sampling technique used purposive sampling, and the sample was class IX-H. The instruments used are learning style questionnaires, mathematical representation ability tests, and interview guidelines. The results of this study indicate that the mathematical representation ability of students with visual learning styles is 35.56% in the low category, or students have yet to be able to meet the overall visual, symbolic, and verbal representation indicators. Furthermore, the mathematical representation ability of students with auditory and kinesthetic learning styles is 49.86% and 41.87% in the medium category. Respectively, students have been able to meet the indicators of visual and symbolic representation quite well but have yet to be able to fulfill the visual and symbolic representation and verbal representation indicators.

In understanding mathematics learning, representation is considered an entry point in solving various complex mathematical problems. The ability of mathematical representation is related to the expression of mathematical ideas using various ways, including written language, spoken language, pictures, symbols, examples, diagrams, graphs, or other real examples as representations. The research design used is mixed research (Mixed Method). The subjects in this study were 17 prospective mathematics teacher students, but then 3 (three) people were selected as subjects to be interviewed. Consists of subjects with high category (S1), subjects with medium category (S2), and subjects with low category (S3). Data collection was carried out using test instruments in the form of description questions in the probability theory course. From the test results, after being examined, students were selected to represent each category. Furthermore, by using the results of student tests, interviews were conducted to compare the results of interviews with student answers. The results of the written test and the results of the interview test were then analyzed to determine the student's representational ability. The results of this study indicate that students' mathematical representation skills in the probability theory course are still relatively low, this can be seen in 3 (three) subjects after matching the results of the written test and the results of the interview test. Individuals with high categories can meet the indicators of expression representation or mathematical equations and verbal representations. Subjects in the medium category were able to fulfill the indicators of mathematical representation or expression. Low subjects were not able to fulfill one of the three indicators of mathematical representation ability

Students abilities differ when given questions that require representing aspects to appear. This is because the ability of mathematical representation is influenced by the characteristics of the student way of thinking. The purpose of this study was to analyze the mathematical representation abilities of students in graph theory in terms of the characteristics of the way of thinking. This type of research uses qualitative research in the form of case studies. The research subjects were class B students in the sixth semester of IKIP PGRI Pontianak with one student taken for ways of thinking in Concrete Sequences (SK), Abstract Sequences (SA), Concrete Random (AK), and Abstract Random (AA) with selected using purposive sampling technique. The main instruments in this research is the researcher and the necessary supporting instruments include test questions on mathematical representation abilities, questionnaires on the characteristics of ways of thinking, and interview guidelines. To test the validity of the data used triangulation techniques. Data analysis was performed by data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results of the study showed that students with the SK and Sa way of thinking had fulfilled all the indicators of mathematical representation abilities, namely verbal, visual, and symbolic representations because their way of thinking was detailed and mastered the concept, while students with the AA and AK thinking only met the indicators of verbal representation due to the unstructured way of thinking and not mastering the concept.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of REACT strategy assisted by GeoGebra software on students' mathematical representation ability. This study was quasi-experimental with a quantitative approach. The design used in this study was The Nonequivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design. Four posttest questions were given to 25 students of Class VIII A and 25 students of Class VIII B at SMP Negeri Arun Lhokseumawe (public middle school). The data obtained from the posttest results were analyzed by data normality test and data homogeneity test, then hypotheses were tested using a t-test to see the effect of REACT strategy assisted by GeoGebra software on students' mathematical representation ability. The results of the data analysis of the posttest score tested using the t-test, the sig value was obtained. (2-tailed) of 0.000 > 0.05. This showed that there was a significant effect of using the REACT strategy assisted by GeoGebra software on students' mathematical representation ability.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kategori kemampuan representasi matematis peserta didik. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode analisis deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas IX.2 SMP Negeri 16 Palembang Tahun Ajaran 2019/2020 sebanyak 30 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Instrumen tes berupa 4 soal uraian materi sistem persamaan linear dua variabel. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada representasi visual memiliki persentase rata-rata sebesar 43,33 dengan sebagian besar peserta didik belum mampu menentukan titik potong dan menggambarkan titik potong pada koordinat kartesius. Indikator representasi ekpresi matematis sebesar 80,37 menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik mampu menyelesaikan permasalahan menggunakan representasi ekpresi matematis tetapi sebagian besar peserta didik keliru dalam menentukan solusi terakhir. Indikator representasi kata-kata atau teks tertulis sebesar 28,89 dengan sebagian besar peserta didik belum mampu menyatakan strategi penyelesaian menggunakan kata-kata atau teks tertulis. Secara keseluruhan didapat persentase rata-rata kemampuan representasi peserta didik sebesar 62,66 dengan kategori sedang.

The ability of mathematical representation becomes a student bridge to connect abstract ideas with logical thinking in order to understand mathematical problems. This qualitative descriptive study aims to analyze the mathematical representation abilities of class XI.IPA students of SMA Ali Maksum Yogyakarta in the online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The instrument used was a mathematical representation ability test and written interview guidelines via google form. The data analysis technique used is interactive analysis with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and making overall conclusions. Analysis of test result data is used to determine the level of mathematical representation ability of students, while the results of interviews are to strengthen test results and determine student learning constraints. The results of this study indicate that the level of students' mathematical representation skills in verbal forms is included in the high category, while visual and symbolic forms are included in the medium category. Constraints that arise when learning online, such as limited learning time, signal stability, difficulty understanding the material, and lack of freedom to ask questions have an effect on the test results obtained.

Abstract: The mathematical representation ability of students at a Senior High School in Singkawang is still low. This is due to the habit of students receiving direct learning and passive activities. This article tries to find out the differences in mathematical representation abilities between students who are given the Group Investigation (GI) learning model and students who are given the direct learning model and describe the mathematical representation abilities of students in terms of learning activities with the GI learning model. The results showed that there were differences in the increase in the mathematical representation ability of students who were given the GI learning model and those who were given the direct learning model. The active mathematical representation ability of students is in the high category, while students with moderate and passive activities have moderate representation skills. Abstrak: Kemampuan representasi matematis siswa di salah satu SMA Negeri di Singkawang masih rendah. Hal ini dikarenakan kebiasaan siswa menerima pembelajaran langsung dan aktivitas yang pasif. Artikel ini mencoba mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan representasi matematis antara siswa yang diberikan model pembelajaran Group Investigation (GI) dengan siswa yang diberikan model pembelajaran langsung serta mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa ditinjau dari aktivitas belajar dengan model pembelajaran GI. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang diberikan model pembelajaran GI dengan siswa yang diberikan model pembelajaran langsung. Kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang aktif berada pada kategori tinggi, sedangkan siswa degan aktivitas sedang dan pasif memiliki kemampuan representasi sedang.

The ability of mathematical representation is one of the abilities that must be possessed by students in learning mathematics. In fact, students 'mathematical representation ability is still relatively low, so we need a learning model that can improve students' mathematical representation abilities, namely Model Eliciting Activities (MEA) with STAD type. The purpose of this study is to compare the mathematical representation ability of students taught using MEA with STAD type and those taught with conventional learning. The approach to be used is a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research method and using a control group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were all VII grade students. Sampling was done using simple random sampling, which consisted of two classes, class VII1 as the experimental class and class VII2 as the control class. Data collection is used by using a mathematical representation ability test sheet. The data analysis technique used is independent t-test. Based on these analysis it can be concluded that the mathematical representation ability of students taught using MEA with STAD type is better than conventional learning.

This study aims to describe the representation ability profile of prospective English teachers in terms of Prior Knowledge (PK) and the types of errors that are made based on the Newman procedure. The research method used is descriptive qualitative case research. The subjects of this study were 50 level IV students taking Statistics on ELT (English Language Teaching) courses in the English Language Program at a university in Cirebon. The results of the data show that the ability of the prospective teacher's mathematical representation in solving statistical questions in ELT in terms of PK, namely the upper group with an average of 76.57% lower than the average midterm score of 95.75, the middle group with an average 67.82% lower than the midterm average of 82, and the lower group with an average of 38.33% lower than the midterm average of 57%. The types of mistakes made by the SKB group were many mistakes in understanding the problem, transforming the problem, and the final answer. The SKS group had the most mistakes in the final answer and the SKA group had the most errors in understanding the problem. Based on the results of research for learning mathematics to prospective language teachers starting from basic concepts, not only memorizing but concepts, giving problems related to the ability of mathematical representation with lots of practice questions, especially in statistical tests. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is any difference between students’ mathematical representation ability who were taught by using the learning model of Project Based Learning with students who were taught by Guided Discovery Learning; there is any difference in the students' mathematical representation ability based on high, medium, or low learning motivation categories, and there is an interaction between the learning model and the learning motivation toward mathematical representation ability. A quasi experiment was used with 2x3 factorial designs. Instrument used to collect data was mathematics test and learning motivation questionnaire. The hypothesis testing used two way analysis of variance with unequal cell. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it can be concluded that there is a difference in the students' mathematics ability that was taught by using Project Based Learning model with students who were taught by sing Guided Discovery Learning model; there is a difference in the students’mathematical representation ability based on high, medium, or low learning motivation; and there is an interaction between the learning model and the learning motivation on the mathematics ability.

The purpose of this study was to determine the use of Wingeom software in geometry learning in the Department of Mathematics Education. This type of research is quasi-experimental. This study examines the use of Wingeom software in geometry learning in the Department of Mathematics Education. The population in this study were all students of the Department of Mathematics Education under the Faculty Education and Teacher Training, Universitas Malikussaleh, and the samples were students of class A1 and class A2. The study was divided into two learning groups, namely the experimental group with the use of Wingeom Software and the control group with ordinary learning. This study begins with an instrument test which shows that (1) Validity indicates that the results are significant, (2) Very high reliability, (3) Good distinguishing power and (4) Moderate difficulty level. To test of homogeneity and normality that the data is homogeneous and normal. The purposes of this study were to obtain a description of learning quality on problem based learning to improve the mathematical representation ability of students grade X and to get description about mathematical representation ability of students grade X in mathematics learning on problem based learning. this study used qualitative method. Qualitative methods is procedure of study that produce descriptive data in the words or oral from people and behaviour that can be observed. The study was conducted at SMA 1 Bumiayu with the subject of this study is the students of X MIPA 6. The subject of this study are students and teacher. The students that chosen as a subject of the study were selected as many as 6 person.they are 2 person from upper group, 2 person from medium group and 2 person from lower group. Based on the study thet has been done, the result shows that (1) the quality of mathematical learning on problem based learning in good category, (2) mathematical representation ability of students in each groups is different. Words representation ability and mathematical expressions ability shows a uniform pattern. On the visual representation ability shows diverse pattern.

This study aims to determine the comparison of students 'mathematical representation ability through the Project Based Learning (PjBL) Model and the students' mathematical representation ability through the conventional model. The PjBL model is a student-centered, innovative, project-based learning model and positioned teachers as effective facilitators in the contextual learning related to real life situation. This research employed quasi-experimental design. The research applied the posttest only non-equivalent control group design through randomized cluster sampling. The data collection technique used was test. The instrument used to collect the data was the essay test. Data analysis was conducted using independent sample t-test. The result of the data calculation through the Independent-Sample T-Test test obtained the significance level of 0.913 means that the students’ mathematical representation ability was better after the learning through Project Based Learning (PjBL) model was conducted compared to the students' mathematical representation ability through a conventional model. This means that the PjBL model is more influential on students' mathematical representation ability.

Abstract: This research aims to describe the mathematical representation ability of students with reflective cognitive style in solving geometric problems. The subjects of this study were two students whose reflective cognitive style were selected based on the results of the MFFT test. The research method used was descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The ability of mathematical representation was described based on three standards of mathematical representation ability, namely; (1) creating and using representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas, (2) choosing, using and translating between representations to solve problems, (3) using representations to create models and interpret mathematical, physical, and social phenomena. The results showed that subjects with reflective cognitive style can use mathematical representation capabilities well from various types of representations, namely visual images, verbal written texts, and mathematical expressions. Key Words: mathematical representation ability, reflective cognitive style, geometric problem Abstrak: Riset ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa bergaya kognitif reflektif dalam menyelesaikan masalah bangun datar. Subjek penelitian ini adalah dua siswa yang bergaya kognitif reflektif yang dipilih berdasar hasil tes MFFT. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Kemampuan representasi matematis dideskripsikan berdasar tiga standar kemampuan representasi matematis, yaitu; (1) membuat dan menggunakan representasi untuk mengorganisasikan, mencatat, dan mengkomunikasikan ide-ide matematika, (2) memilih, menggunakan dan menerjemahkan antar representasi untuk menyelesaikan masalah, (3) menggunakan representasi untuk membuat model dan menginterpretasi fenomena matematis, fisik, dan sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa subjek dengan gaya kognitif reflektif dapat menggunakan kemampuan representasi matematis dengan baik dari berbagai jenis representasi, yaitu visual gambar, verbal teks tertulis, dan ekspresi matematis. Masalah yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini adalah masih kurang maksimalnya kemampuan representasi matematis siswa sehingga diperlukan alternatif pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis tersebut, salah satunya adalah menggunakan pembelajaran model eliciting activities (MEA) dengan pendekatan saintifik. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah menelaah pencapaian dan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran MEA dengan pendekatan saintifik lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik; dan mengkaji perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran MEA dengan pendekatan saintifik dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis (tinggi, sedang, rendah). Penelitan ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent pre-test and post-test control group-design dengan populasi seluruh siswa kelas VII salah satu SMP Negeri di Kabupaten Karawang tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, dengan menggambil dua kelas dari populasi. Kelas eksperimen adalah kelas yang memperoleh pembelajaran MEA dengan pendekatan saintifik, dan kelas kontrol adalah kelas yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik. Untuk menjawab tujuan penelitian ini digunakan data yang diperoleh dengan menggunakan instrument penelitian berupa tes kemampuan representasi. Berdasarkan pengolahan data diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pencapaian dan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran MEA dengan pendekatan saintifik lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik; dan terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran MEA dengan pendekatan saintifik dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan saintifik ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis (tinggi, sedang, rendah).The purposes of this experiment are to beat out (analyze) the student’s achievment and increasen on mathematical representation ability the student who gotten the learning using MEA with saintific approach is better than student who gotten the learning with saintific approach only; and to investigate the student’s differences on mathematical representation ability the student who gotten the learning using MEA with saintific approach is better than student who gotten the learning with saintific approach only based on the innitial mathematical ability (high, medium, and low). Based on the average of post test score of mathematical representation ability on the experimental class was 8,44, while the control class score was 7,24. Then, the average of N-Gain score of mathematical representation ability on the experimental class was 0,66 while the control class score was 0,51. To get the answers of this experiment, the source data is taken out from the research instrument such us representation ability test. Based on the stratified data, there are conlussions the student’s achievment and increasen on mathematical representation ability the student who gotten the learning using MEA with saintific approach is better than student who gotten the learning with saintific approach only; and there is a differencess on mathematical representation ability the student who gotten the learning using MEA with saintific approach is better than student who gotten the learning with saintific approach only based on the initial mathematics capability (high, medium, and low).

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is any difference between students' mathematical representation ability who were taught by using the learning model of Project Based Learning with students who were taught by Guided Discovery Learning; there is any difference in the students' mathematical representation ability based on high, medium, or low learning motivation categories, and there is an interaction between the learning model and the learning motivation toward mathematical representation ability. A quasi experiment was used with 2x3 factorial designs. Instrument used to collect data was mathematics test and learning motivation questionnaire. The hypothesis testing used two way analysis of variance with unequal cell. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it can be concluded that there is a difference in the students' mathematics ability that was taught by using Project Based Learning model with students who were taught by sing Guided Discovery Learning model; there is a difference in the students'mathematical representation ability based on high, medium, or low learning motivation; and there is an interaction between the learning model and the learning motivation on the mathematics ability.
